An idea for your au: Dream’s First Father’s Day. It’s father’s day and Dream finds all his friends occupied, with Q sneaking off to spend the day as Alex with Sam, Sapnap eagerly trying to create the perfect father’s day celebration for badboyhalo with skeppy giving him advice and trolling them both the whole way, George’s human family come to visit him, and even Velvet’s on a date with Ant and making a frankly absurd number of “daddy” jokes.

Missing his friends and in complete denial, Dream decides to mess with the heroes, only to find they are also occupied. Sam’s mysteriously missing (to see Alex), Ant’s on a date with Velvet to try and distract himself from the guilt this holiday drags up, Badboyhalo is curled in a corner crying and trying not to think of his dad while Sapnap and skeppy attempt to drag him out. Ponk is doing a hospital charity thing, etc.

He briefly considered going to the syndicate,m to mess with them, but they’ve got the whole Philza, Wilbur, Fundy drama at its cresendo due to father’s day angst, and Dream thinks he’s better off staying away from that mess.

Unsure what to do, he wanders to the bench his feet always seem to take him to when he’s feeling down, where he finds Puffy. Bored and ar this point and just a little desperate for attention, he jumps into villain mode to try and mess with her. But Puffy’s to stressed to notice, instead demanding he help her practice playing catch.

Dream is super confused, and Puffy explains she’s never been a father before, and she wants her duckling to have the best father’s day, so she really needs the help. This explination does not enlighten dream at all, since he doesn’t know about how Foolish is now Puffy’s son. But he’s to proud to ask for context, and to flattered that she thinks he knows what father’s and son’s do to correct her.

Thus begins Dream’s attempts to help Puffy become the ultimate Dad for when she meets up with the Duckling, including a game of catch that escalates into tossing buildings around, a fishing trip that ended up hooking a sea serpent for a free ride, an eating competition that ended with Puffy rolling Dream out, and griefing the whole of the syndicates headquarters with toilet paper and the words “philza is number 2 dad” which somehow ended up resolving the conflict between phil, wilbur, and fundy, or at least put on hold, as they all teamed up to hunt them down.

(And maybe Dream was made the last two dad bonding ideas up off the top of his head, but he grew up in a lab, he’s trying)

As he and puffy are crouching behind a bush, panting and hoping they lost the sbi, Dream asks Puffy why she needed help being a dad anyways. Shouldn’t she be a mom?

Puffy’s face tightens, and Dream thinks he’s crossed a line, but Puffy says, “i wasn’t any good at being a mother.”

Dream: what?

Puffy gets a faraway look in her eyes. “did u know this Duckling’s not my first? I used to have another. He was such a cute little thing, and when he called me “mom” by accident, i could have cried with happiness.” Puffy’s smile drops. “But i failed him. He vanished, and even a hero like me couldn’t track him down.” She shakes her head. “Call it superstion, but I don’t want to be anyone’s mom until i find out what happened to him”

Dream doesn’t know what to say to that. Its far more vulnerability than he’d expect a hero to show around him. And something about the story she told makes his head HURT like nothing he’s felt before. But at the same time, Dream doesn’t want to dismiss it or mock it, doesn’t want to get rid of the fragile trust Puffy’s beginning to place in him. (So I can exploit it later, he lies to himself).

“Well,” Dream brushed some stray toilet paper off his clothes. “You seem to be doing pretty good at the father buisness”

“You think so?” Puffy gives him a slight smile.

“I know so!” Dream puffs up, “i’m an expert remember?”

Puffy laughs, claiming she couldn’t have done it without Dreams help, and invites Dream to come with her to “keep her on track” with her duckling. Dream agrees, and ends up spending the rest of the day with Puffy and Foolish (in his alter ego form) building stuff, because apparently that’s all foolish really wanted to do, and all of dream and puffy’s prep was for nothing. Dream and Puffy do their best, but between all the food they ate and running halfway across town to avoid the syndicate’s wrath, their to tired to make creations anywhere near as good as Foolish’s. (Or so Dream claims, not willing to admit a mere civilian is so much better than him). Foolish doesn’t seem to mind though, and they all have a great time.

Dream tells himself this is all a long con, but he can’t help but feel strangely at home with Puffy and her duckling, like some lost part of his childhood has been fulfilled.

He quietly adds Foolish’s alter ego to the Do Not Harm list in the HIVE headquarters.
