melancholic oscillation comes swirling down from once-hollow clouds. the sound is wavering, at once tender and anxious as a wasp who cannot sting, and it brings with it the rain which pounds the blue tarp roof and the windows, single pane cold, and my ceiling split open does not bother me tonight because the earth sings. we turn the music down and listen to the sibylline pattern while outside the voices of men speaking wildly over the crumpled wreck of a toyota rise up to meet the burnt sky which swells with melodic joy. the earth is a vertiginous mass that sings as it spins; sings as a pitch-black range rover speeds past the wreck. outside my window the world is miniature-like, comprehensible as it is because it is self-contained — things enter one side and leave the other, rain falls from the the top and below, it drains slowly through grassroot and mineral soil.
