Now, who’s your favorite NPC? Of course it’s honestly hard not to love em all (even Iona)- Though I’ve had such a soft spot for Jasmin since Bela’s demo. Immediately falling for her outward demeanor and her style- like, she really couldn’t be anymore of a cutie😭

She’s been through such an emotional wringer in a very typical college fashion, overworked by the council AND getting her heart broken by Cassandra, while additionally losing a close friend to a tragic killing, even when it may or may not occur in every reset-

You think she ever experiences déjà vu of grief? Heartbreak? But that’s like asking if Stanley has ever felt dread looking at Donna’s flower shop, for no other reason than a mere feeling? Depends.

But anyway, regardless of the circumstance, it’s shown that Jasmin still has good friends who look out for her, (Anamaria specifically) and that she generally surrounds herself with good company. Which, its comforting to remember we have fun, loving little friend groups amongst the cult and their practices💀

There is something so infuriating about trying to fix my slow laptop and it’s now somehow much worse?? Like, can it not take me an hour to open a game? For the game to not even work???

I’ve had a 100% disk usage problem ever since I got this laptop that I’m sure is part of the problem, but the fixes I’ve tried for it have never solved it.

I’m probably gonna have to take it into a repair shop because oh my god this is infuriating (also I can’t afford a new laptop or computer rn)

One of my favourite things about the prequel is that we see a side of the Capitol before the Games became what they were. Katniss herself never hated her prep team despite their role in the games because she came to see they were like mindless children and (whether or not I agree with her thoughts) I always liked the acknowledgement that we are often products of our enviroment.

And Songbirds and Snakes helps prove that even more. Because there was a time, when the games weren't the big popular event that they eventually became, when even members of the Capitol were openly appalled by them:

Highbottom was horrified his ridiculously school assignment had become a real thing. Students at the academy showed genuine dislike for the games and turned away with true saddness when some of the tributes died. Not just because they lost the game but because their life was lost. It wasn't whispered for fear of treason accusations but a subject they spoke about openly with one another.

But as the games grew and became a bigger part of their culture, the Capitol was forced to treat the tributes and Districts as lesser beings that it didn't matter when they were murdered for entertainment. As such, the children learned all about this at a young age. And it grew and grew until the Capitol citizens were so brainwashed by their own leaders, they genuinely didn't see a problem with it. It wasn't even about remembering the war in the end, but rather having a bit of fun without caring at who's expense! Yes, a few people retained their horror at the games and some even went on to become rebels but for the most part, they daren't speak their doubts out loud because then they would at best be outcasts and at worst be enemies sent to trial.

I just really like the commentary about how the way we grow can affect our thoughts, beliefs and even our morality. I've always found it quite a fascinating discussion and love seeing it addressed properly.

Pretty sure thimbles were given as part of the bride's-chest when she got married. Tradition says the man cut off the top of it to make a ring, symbolising that she no longer had to be “a maiden”. That is, have to do typical maiden work like sewing. Which is silly, a wife still did the sewing.

In the 17th century, though, thimbles were an everyday object. You could have a box full of them the same way you'd have a box of old keys, buttons and clippers somewhere.

Both men and women wore them, and they weren't only used for sewing. They were also worn out in the fields when working with the weat/grains or making baskets.

They were also used in superstitions, such as: You could do a lot with them. Most commonly, you would write a message, wish or whatever, on a note, tuck it into the thimble, and bury it in the fields or some place of significance. It was believed this would... help?

Probably because thimbles are used in sewing, and sewing was associated with witches because of the spindles (that, if you look it up, look like wands).

Thimbles were also used to deliver secret messages and codes. Both by filling them with notes, or have the top engraved with a message.

Anyway, wedding rings weren't really a thing (I think? dont quote me on that). But there were wedding traditions, like giving thimbles.

But giving a thimble to a girl you liked would be, pretty much, a jest in "hey wanna elope? lol" Which would be the equalising of some dude in your class snickering as he went up to you and gave you a bit of gum in exchange for a kiss. It would only hold proper romantic meaning if the pair were already engaged or had just married.

Now, if Caleb wanted to woe her or court her, he would have to do it within his means. He's poor (at least in my version), but at the time, a man had to show he could provide for her in marriage, so he'd have to think of gifts that could show an honest promise.

But since Evelyn doesn't care about that sort of thing, I think he'd eventually figure out that all she actually wants is his company, attention, and love. Him putting effort into a gift, like making her something out of wood, or taking the time to pick flowers, would woe her just fine.
