There's no denying that the Green stans live in a parallel universe. Rhaenyra did not propose marriage to Helaena to make her son more legitimate, but simply out of a desire to make peace with Alicent.
Secondly, Rhaenyra did not want the attention to be on her during Aegon II's birthday, or for people to care about her particularly at that time. She simply feared that people would be wanted Aegon II in his place on the throne. Not to mention that Viserys was putting pressure on her to find a husband. And what do we see in this episode ? Suitors who clearly piss off Rhaenyra and look disgusting, and that there are really people wanting his brother in his place on the throne, that Viserys changes heirs and is already plotting for that. (Also, there was a cut scene of Rhaenyra trying to teach her little brother how to say his name, so she was being nice to him, but obviously the writers needed to remove that...)
Oh and yes, what a shame that Rhaenyra wants Viserys to question Aemond more harshly to find out where he got the accusation of bastardy on his children, an accusation so serious that it would risk the DEATH of his Velaryon boys. How dare a mother put her children first ?!
The people on team greens really love transforming what happens in this series to prove themselves right, specifically about the character of Rhaenyra. That's crazy. And it will always come back to the fact that she had children out of wedlock (while ignoring why she had them in the canon of the show) at one point or another. They are so predictable.
Some anonymous had previously sent me part of this post without adding that it was part of the post, so I deleted the reply to avoid mess again, but I'll say the same thing again:
Does anyone really expect Rhaenyra to be happy at Aegon's birthday when she heard chants of "Aegon the Second of His Name" everywhere? Aegon was not the second Aegon in the family, not even the second since the Conquest, but the fourth. So there was no room for stupid explanations. This was a title reserved for a king, so the people made it clear that they expected Rhaenhra to be replaced. And she, cruel, was mad! How could she!
It is also obvious to me why Rhaenyra mentioned "torture" - because she knew well where Aemond heard it from and wanted Alicent to confess under pressure. No one would torture anyone (that's Viserys 🙄). But Alicent didn't confess even when her son faced potential torture, because she preferred to shout that Rhaenyra was evil rather than face consequences for her actions. And the children had to defend her.
Not entirely related to the post:
People like to prove that Rhaenyra is evil and mad. They do not take into account why her rule was the way it was, because "the loss of her children does not justify her" and she should be fully mentally stable. I wonder if this doesn't justify Helaena's behavior as well? After all, how could she break down instead of fighting? Rhaenyra lost five children (she didn't know Viserys was alive) in a short period of time. Of course it affected her! She was mentally broken, deprived of any funds in the treasury, and made bad decisions. She was not a good queen. But she could be if she was given the chance to rule as she deserved.
And people still sometimes add rumors (about throwing a party) and nonsense written by Mushroom (about the rape of Alicent and Helana) to show how bad she is 🙄

Idk, the way everyone fights for teams in the hotd fandom is peak example of the media literacy crisis for me. Everyone blaming everyone for loving their favs, people literaly bullying each other over fiction is the purest result of people consuming fiction like it's a football game and not a story with complex themes and subjects. It is fiction ; the fact that people absolutely need to have a strong opinion on it and shame others who don't think the same is so weird to me. Loving Daemon or Alicent or even Aegon doesn't make you a horrible person ; it's fucking fiction. Fiction was never meant to have a sense of moral righteousness to it, especially George R.R. Martin's stories. It's not all black and white ; they're all saints from a certain point of vue but from another, they're all deeply wretched and you should be celebrating such good writing instead of bullying everybody. You can like a fictional vilain for the sole reason that they're well written ; nobody should judge you for that. The things I've seen in here, people going around accusing others to be r*pe apologists because they like Aegon is CRAZY. I always think about how the showrunners were surprised to see people pick sides in such a fierce way because that is not what the show's about ; it's not a little fight between two sides the way you made it to be, it's literaly a family destroying itself and a whole ass continent with it. It's what happens when a destructive force such as dragons is put in the hands of the wrong people. You can claim to be team Black without bullying the shit out of team Green stans and same other way around. It is possible to want Rhaenyra on the throne without belittling other characters' traumas. You can hate a character without bullying the actor or those who love it. It is possible to like Aegon because he is written as the ultimate example of what abuse does to people, just like you can love and support Alicent while condemning the way she treats Rhaenyra after she gives birth. You have been gifted with an incredible show, that is also an incredible adaptation of a great book with magnificent actors and complex writing, and you would rather bully Olivia Cooke or other fans instead of appreciating the deep quality of it all and what it's really about. I am TIRED and I already know everyone's going to be fighting over this because you got so used to consuming low-quality and poorly written media that tells you immediately what to think about the characters, who's the bad guy and who's the good one that you can't see past it to reach the true meaning of a story.

Ever since I watched HOT D I have felt conflicted about Alicent's character because I can't figure out her motivation. At the beginning it's clear she's only doing what Otto wants but later on... What is the reason she wants her son to be on the throne so bad ? ( When it doesn't seem to me like she cares about having power )
The only thing that I see is that she is extremely bitter and angry that she had to be this perfect woman when she was still a child and marry and have children with and old man. Meanwhile her friend is just fucking around not respecting any of the value she has to uphold.
But idk is it really only anger at Rhaenyra that makes her want this ?
one of the reasons I like alicent as a character so much is the 8 layers of cognitive dissonance she processes everything through at all times. She’s constantly trying to convince herself everything will be fine and also not allowing herself to really want anything for herself. She’s not a rational actor because she was robbed of the ability to emotionally mature past the age of 15 in a lot of respects, but it makes her a compelling (and confusing!) character.
I think it’s safe to say that on a fundamental level she at least wants a) to be close to Rhaenyra b) for her family to be safe and for her father to be proud of her and c) for someone to acknowledge her suffering (she cannot conceptualize a world where what she went through didn’t have to happen, she just wants anyone to recognize it as painful.)
She thought that Rhaenyra was also going to be suffering in a loveless marriage alongside her, and they’d have that in common. To see her “breaking the rules” that have made Alicent’s entire life completely miserable is just too much. She got her life destroyed by this system and by Viserys wanting sons, and he doesn’t even care about them OR about her, he only loves his eldest daughter even though SHE “breaks” all of these “rules.” That’s super emotionally devastating, and Alicent decides to pin that on Rhaenyra instead of her father or Viserys because if she did that, she would actually have to deal with the years of emotional trauma and violence that she’s been repressing. She can’t see a way out, so she just projects the rage she cannot internalize onto Rhaenyra.
Her father spent decades trying to convince her that Rhaenyra was going to be a threat to her family in the event of a succession, an idea he stood to gain a lot from, but it also isn’t totally crazy. Aegon Aemond and Daeron WERE threats to Rhaenyra’s claim. Putting Aegon on the throne was the only pathway that Alicent had been drilled to envision for decades, and the only one she thought would keep her kids safe. Also- if one in her life is going to acknowledge what happened to her was horrible and wrong, then at least everything she’s went through has to be worth something. Aegon’s coronation was also the culmination of that idea for her.
She doesn’t want power because she cannot even conceptualize having power as an option for herself- she’s never pictured herself on the throne, and she’s only trying to make a window in the wall of her prison. I don’t think she ever envisioned what her life would be like after she got Aegon on the throne, so I’m real excited to see what she’s going to be doing in season 2. TLDR it’s not about getting specifically Aegon on the throne that’s important, but more about following the rules she’s been taught will make her happy and safe and successful, even though on some level she knows that all it’s ever done is hurt her. Free alicent from the narrative she knows what story she’s in and she knows there’s no way out💚💔

Aegon and Jace have one year difference/mpreg/omegaverse or IDK
Aegon loves to moan loudly so everyone knows what he's doing, and who he's with, he loves having sex in places where people might see him, on the balcony, in a dark castle hallway, in the throne room. And Jace also likes that. He likes to hear Aegon scream his name while Jace fucks him. He like to see Aegon cry in overwhelm, he likes to feel Aegon's body. He likes the thought that anyone could see him fucking Aegon in any moment; but he doesn't look like he does. Honestly, people don't really understand how a whore like Aegon ended up being friends with someone as pure as Jace; and they don't have idea that Jace is the one that pulls Aegon into the purification room of the temples to fuck him, they don't know that every chance he gets, Jace rubs against Aegon when no one is looking. They don't know that the one who actually took Aegon's virginity was Jace, a long time ago after see in a book. They don't know that Jace marks every part of Aegon, that he ties him, that he licks him.
Jace likes to look innocent. After all, who would doubt his angelic face? If a servant found him slamming Aegon against the wall in a corridor and told someone else, everyone would say; "Prince Jacaerys? He wouldn't do that." He likes this weird immunity he's been given. He likes to have everything he wants from Aegon. As far as he knows, Aegon likes to have everything he wants from Jace. He likes the relationship they have, they don't have much commitment, they fuck, and say goodbye.
Somehow in the end it always bother Jace when someone flirt with Aegon, when he receives to much attention from the others, He hates that Aegon smiles at people other than him. He hates to think that Aegon has slept with people who aren't him. He hates to think that Aegon sees him as Jace sees him; a fun toy that he can play with sometimes. He hates that he wants Aegon to be more than his toy. He hates to see Aegon smiling lustfully at someone other than Jace himself. He hates being jealous over Aegon. He hates feeling like killing the person Aegon smiles to brightly at. He hates he feeling of desperately wanting to make sure Aegon was just his, and no one else. He hates the felling of possession he felt over Aegon. He hated seeing Aegon away from him. He hated not being able to let everyone know that Aegon was his, and only his. He hates that Aegon would never agree on marrying him. He hates that Aegon likes to enjoy his freedom; and he hates that he wants to take Aegon's freedom. But Aegon shall be his as he shall be Aegon's
[...]
Aegon is not that jealous, of course not, he is not one of those crazy people that is jealous of someone he can't even have. He is not jealous over Baela and Jace, why would he be? Jacaerys is not his, he must have as many lovers as Aegon himself— why did it bothered Aegon? Maybe because he thought he wasn't enough for Jacaerys. Maybe because he is a whore, of course someone like Jace would never want to be with someone like him, why would he? Jacaerys is perfect, everyone knows. Aegon is just— himself, unfortunately. Maybe if he was more like Baela, Jace would look at him in other way, Jace wouldn't look at him just like he was fun. But how could he even start? Everytime Jacaerys touches him, he melts like he was just a piece of butter left to the sun. He hates himself for it. He hated himself for not being enough. He hated himself for wanting to tame Jacaerys for himself. He hated the idea of Jace one day marrying someone, having kids, being happy. He hated that he couldn't do anything about it.
But those feelings didn't stop them from meeting each other in the city, or going to festivals together. Or even fuck everywhere. Aegon felt a little saddened by the fact that Jace had desperately made him drink moon tea as soon as they were done having sex. He was offended in the least, what did Jace think he was? A Street of Silk whore itching to have a bastard child? Aegon hated it when Jace treated him like that, like he was a cheap whore. But maybe he was, because after a crazy week, where Jace fucked him all the nights; he found himself pregnant, crying to Jace, begging forgiveness, saying that he didn't planned that. And in a sea of anguish, Jace touched her face and smiled. "I think we'll have to get married then." Aegon didn't quite understand the victorious smile Jace had on his lips while saying those words.
Thanks for your treat!!! Love it so much 🥰
I read the story several times and firstly I thought “oh you two adorable idiots falling in love without even knowing it I want to force you confess to each other so bad and finally I’m delighted you two have the happy ending you deserve”.
Then I get a little sad cause I felt something else. So Jace had the “I hate myself for loving you”issue it’s good angst material but it gave me the feeling that he didn’t know how to cherish the one he loved.
(Funny enough me and other fangirl friends once talked about something similar about Jace, about he looked like a very decent and honored prince but it doesn’t stop him fucking his uncle fiercely behind everyone. We thought it could create a very funny and “contrasting” effects, like adding a new dimension of his character)
Although I super love the idea that Aegon could bring out Jace’s worst (and truest) side and he was always the one challenging Jace’s bottom line, driving him crazy, I don’t appreciate if Jace loves pretending he’s an innocent man and he stays noble and asks Aegon to drink moontea immediately he finishes his fucking. Or even worse, he treated Aeg as if he was only a bedmate or a pretty toy. It’s definitely part of reason why Aegon thought he didn’t deserve Jace in this story.
I bet it took a long time for Jace to realize (and admit) his true feelings for Aeg. Did he choose to baby trap Aeg when he felt actual threat coming like Aegon was already arranged to be engaged with some Lord like a Lannister or Greyjoy???
(These are all my subjective words and hope you don’t feel offended 🤣 X)

so something that I've been chewing on is how the dynamics of the Dance would have changed of Rhaenyra had been a son. Rhaenyrion, if you will (rhaenys/Balerion) I kinda realized that this concept is sort of explored already, with Daeron and Daemon down the line with the Blackfyres.
The thing is is that Rhaenyrion would still have quite a bit of beef with Alicent, tho there probably would be way more issues with Viserys insisting on remarrying the one chick that wants her own son to sit on the throne, so this would probably end up with some similarities to harem dramas (wives of the father against other sons that aren't theirs.) I suspect that in this au, Rhaenyrion would be far more assertive due to being an assured crown prince, (except daeron was an assured crown prince and still had to fight for his position), except Alicent would probably still make this boys life as miserable as she can
I'm guessing that in this au Rhaenyrion is married to Laena Valaryon automatically, but what would really be insane (because realistically they would have true born kids, but I also personally want the bastard allegations to happen because grrm didn't put that there for free) is if Rhaenyrion straight up fucking adopts kids as he likes. I mean realistically he can also have his own bastards and keep them as his own, maybe Laena doesn't fucking like him cause she's gay or cuckholds him with Daemons twins Baela and Rhaena, which would really warp the hell out of the family blood tree.
I do like the adoption thing too much because one, Romans, two, adoption isnt something explored in asoiaf. To the point that it doesn't seem like an option. It's either let the kid live with you unofficially or legalize them as your heir if their your bastard. Also if they wore adopted this would throw a lot of fuel to the greens because how could Rhaenyrion adopt his sons of vague origins and make one Viserys's gods-damned heir to the throne? Against decency, this is.
( I am aware that that option is borderline too crazy. Realistically, if we ignore the most realistic option, Rhaenyrion would just bring his bastard sons home and say they're his and Laena's ignore the logistics fuck you Im the crown prince this is my son his name is Jacaerys Targaryen.)
Probably in this au that I am cooking all over your asks Aegon and Viserys would be Daemon's bastards, graciously fostered by Rhaenyrion and Laena on dragon stone. How the fuck does Daemon's sons get the throne after Aegon II, I have no idea, but as I pick through the mush of this au, the only justification i got is that grrm's "the laws of inheritance were vague at best and when push came to shove people dp what ever they fucking want regardless." (Misquoted but basically what he said). Unless Damon has two shotgun weddings that were scandalous but legit enough in the short term. Especially since Rhaenyrion would probably designate Aegon as his heir when All the other boys are gone.
Pretty much the major thing that Rhaenyrion and Rhaenyra would share is how they make their own family. It's just that Rhaenyrion would be seen as much more insane then Rhaenyra would be. Rhaenyrion be making "promise me, Rhae" level promises to Laena over protecting her daughters and the mother of his sons and Daemon's sons.
The major thing however, in this au is that the greens would be super major usurpers all the way, since they don't have the women can't ascend the iron throne argument, and their main argument is just, Rhaenyrion has done scandal after scandal jow can we have that guy as our king? And said scandals are just, guy loves his kids and gives the greens middle fingers every time he sees them. Which would just highlight the greed of the greens big time.
Unless we go so far as to make Rhaenyrion Bisexual and unapologetic about it. Which adds more fuel to the fire since the Greens are pro Faith of the Seven.
In the case of the war probably the greens would be significantly more on the offensive early on. Like you thought Aemond was bad in canon hed probably try to torch the Erie in addition to the RiverLands.
Actually I just realized that since Laena fucking dies (don't want her to but she dies) the Driftmark episode would be so much fucking worse. Especially because...yeah this is a Rhaenyrion/Laena/Deamon poly situation Vaemond would be downright suicidal to be making comments on her funeral speech when both her gods-damned lovers who are Princes are right fucking there. And then you also have the fact that Aemond claims Vhagar, who belonged to Rhaenyrion's Just Buried Wife, the Night After Said Wife's Funeral, and then proceeds to Insult the Crown Princes Sons and Attack Them To the Point Of Said sons Needing Self Defense...Aemond got some serious balls in this au.
Also Alicent demanding Lucerys's eye and then rushing to Attack Lucerys and Rhaenryion would be fucking more insane then in the show, (considering that the show doesn't fucking get into a fraction of the realistic implications of that). Just saying that realistically, someone is going to die in this au at this moment. And it can't be Laenor since he's cool and is also the current heir. Unless of course, Viserys forbids punshment for either Aemond or Alicent which furthers the divide.
I think that if Rhaenyra was male he would not have been experiencing quite the level of casual disrespect as an adult. that happens in canon tho I did just write out why people would find him distasteful, after all, people both like and were greatly annoyed by Roberts Baratheon's whoring and drinking and they still payed him respect.
In summary of the previous shit, which I made up as I went along, in an au where Rhaenyra was male, Viserys still married Alicent, Alicent bullies and tears down Rhaenyrion as much as possible before said prince comes to a banquet with an all black suit and starts living it up by developing a martial rivalry with Criston Cole which pisses him off and being mentored by Daemon and vibing with the common people via the taverns and brothels, and hanging out with Harwin Strong and is living his best bi life is a more chill prince of the city with his beloved dragon Syrax and ends up marrying Laena Valaryon except she really really likes Daemon too and Rhaenyrion is like, damn, did I ever mentioned that i have, a very, very close friend, and she kinda asked me to promise her a major promise, Like a Promise Me, Ned type promise. And Laena's like, who the fuck is Ned. Because she has twins and Rhaenyrion is like, I gave you two freebies can I have two freebies psyche it's three because Laenor loved the last one so much.
Obviously Corlys and Rhaenys hate this sht so much but at least Laenor is alive and Laenor and Laena both want Lucerys and Baela and and Rhaenys to stay and be recognized in the family and anyone of them can be Laenor's heir and Rhaenyrion is saying me and Laena talked about it and maybe (since Alicent would rather marry a sweet girl off to fucking Aegon than my beautiful boy Jaceaerys) perhaps, Baela will be queen? Anyway a major family discussion goes down behind closed doors and Corlys just lives the rest of his life wondering why the fuck his daughter and son like fucking Targaryens so fucking much (hypocrite)
And Rhaenyrion and Laena and Daemon have a pretty good polycule going down in dragonstone and when Daemon comes back with his own "legitimate" -wink wink nudge nudge cue Otto about to have an aneurysm and Alicent getting ready to spread bitch ass rumours again - sons Rhaenyrion is like Yay more babies let me cuddle them Daemon it's my castle let me cuddle them.
And then Laena dies and Driftmark goes down and someone was 2000% going to fucking die except Viserys decided to be a long at the worst possible moment and so the Blacks go back to Dragonstone and the Greens back to Kingslanding.
And then Vaemond decides to be a little bitch (I don't know if in this au he'd straight up murder Laenor who had already desingated Rhaena and Lucerys as his heirs anyway or if hed just whine to the iron throne that this whole choosing your own heir is fucking stupid and is going against traditional law but Daemon, or Rhaenyrion, kill his ass when he calls Rhaenryions sons bastards.
The last supper thing is significantly more fucking awkward because no way in fucking hell would Alicent imply that Rhaenyrion would follow Viserys.
The main question here is how Visenya fits in this, because one, men are also capable of feeling pain over miscarriages, and also, to really temper Rhaenyrions grief and rage over the usurpers. However the only way this would happen is if he had a paramour living on dragon stone, and if he heard the news, lashed out, and was the main reason said hypothetical paramour goes into labor and stillbirth. And in typical fashion, blames the greens for what is technically his fault. But it also keeps him focused of the loss of a child that he very clearly wanted, while Daemon is doing other things, like securing Dragonstone and checking the children and grieving. But yeah he blames the greens saying that they murdered his daughter.
I think I just constructed a guy that just, really really loves his children a bit more unabashedly then Rhaenyra does. He experiences more privileges than Rhaenyra does on canon but also is like, insanely progressive as fuck for his story because, the only thing that matters is the monarch choosing their heir and Rhaenyrion took that concept to eleven. Which pissed off a lot of people but still.
There would be just a touch, a smidge, of major ass tension because people wonder is Rhaenyrion or Daemon the new king before Rhaenyrion is like oh come off it and breaks the tension. Daemon crowns his nephew obviously.
Anyway the dance goes down as it does and Rhaenyrion is remembered as that insane prince that passed off his bastards as legitimate.
Okay realistically if Rhaenyrion was real he'd probably be way smarter and a bit more capable and probably would be a year king and the dance may have taken place earlier than it did. It would be debatable if he had children or not in this au since the conflict would take place sooner tho without a doubt he is being married to Laena and it is possible that he may live longer and that Aegon II is mostly remembered as Aegon the Usurper than II. Especially because Rhaenyrion is totally going to be somewhat of a warrior if he was a guy. So he would be on the battlefield . And he'd probably have more tension with Daemon (the measuring dicks posturing kind, not the sexy kind) but i think Daemon would stick by his nephew as he did with his niece.
Also there's a good chance that Rhaenyrion would have been mentored and supported by Daemon way more because no doubt that Alicent would still bully and antagonize the shit out of Rhaenyrion but at least Rhaenyrion would have more support and been further away from Alicent then Rhaenyra got to be.
The dance potentially not changing even if Rhaenyra was Rhaenyrion just proves that the greens and everyone who supported them did for self serving ends and for greed. Not because of some women can't rule it's just that the hightowers wanted one of their own on the throne and that was just fucking it and the only entire point.
Basically Rhaenyrion would be more charming and active fellow than his great great great igaf great son Rhaegar.
And people would still ask yo what if that guy had gotten to be king maybe it would've been nice.
Anyway you did not fucking ask for this ask and to be honest this is the equivalent of me scribbling out my brain nonsense on the nearest scrap of scrap paper except it turned out to be your ask box. I was rereading some of your posts because I like rereading your posts sometimes and my brain started cooking and we basically squatted on your front porch to grill this idea. I would say a bigger sorry but I had a little too much fun writing this.
Oh wow that was heavy. You should write a fic.
This is my totally civil take about an AU where Rhaenyra is a man.
For the record I don't believe there would be a dance if Rhaenyra was a man, but it's not impossible. If there was a dance, it would be a much more clear cut situation than this though, because Rhaenyra being a woman and having sex makes her a morally grey character in the eyes of a big part of the audience. The greens would have zero support in the fandom had Rhaenyra been a man.

I think, if people are going to comment on how Rhaenyra was usurped, they should no about law or have common sense. Rhaenyra was made heir when it was only her and Daemon but when Aegon was born HE was the one in the throne. As unfair as it is, brothers go before sisters.
Just like Viserys shouldn't have inherited the iron throne. Rhaenys was the child of the oldest son so she should have inherited the throne, not Viserys.
i think the show screwed up in not pointing out that it wasn't necessarily Rhaenys that the Council was deciding on, it was moreso Laenor, and that he should inherit because he was the son of Jahaerys's eldest son, who had been Jahaerys's longtime heir. So the Council wasn't just saying that women couldn't inherit, but that men couldn't inherit through the female line either, which really should have put the kibosh on Rhaenyra or her sons inheriting the throne.
I'm willing to give the Great Council some leeway that I'm not willing to extend to later generations, because the whole point of that was that nobody was really sure what protocol was given how messy the Targaryen succession had been at that point and things were starting to amass to violence (Corlys was gathering a fleet to defend Laenor's claim and Daemon was gathering himself an army), so that's why Jahaerys decided to try a more democratic approach, and it was a majority of people who decided the outcome. There's issues with the fact that it's landowning highborn men who comprised the vote, but it is profoundly more democratic than just straight up birthright monarchy, and Viserys, and more importantly the precedent that selecting Viserys meant, is what they ultimately chose. It was a bad choice because of nearly everything about Viserys, and that Rhaenys likely was better suited, but as an American, I can very firmly state that sometimes democracy gives us decisions that we don't like but we have to deal with anyway (#StillWithHer).
The issue is that nothing was done afterwards to rectify that situation. The law wasn't made any clearer (precedent isn't set in stone law but it's still pretty powerful) and more importantly Viserys didn't do jack shit when he himself was on the throne. Like yeah he named Rhaenyra as his heir when he was widowed and had literally only her as an option as opposed to his psycho brother. But once he had multiple sons, the expectation and the precedent of the Great Council meant that everyone in the entire country is going to see Aegon as de-facto heir. So Viserys should have either abided by that or he should have clarified the law and codified Rhaenyra's succession (and thereby codified absolute primogeniture, at least for the Targaryens, which might be why he never did it) to make it the crystal clear law of the land. Because if all you've got is precedent that goes against Rhaenyra and twenty decades passing since the loyalty oaths were sworn, most people are going to assume that legality is on Aegon's side, even if the legality is unclear.
It's unfair to call Aegon a usurper, because usurpation by definition relies on someone taking power illegally. We can debate whether it was ethically and morally right for Aegon to take the throne all the live long day (just not with me because I don't care, all birthright monarchy is a scam anyway), but whatever law there was remained on his side, and even then the law as it pertained to Targaryen succession was so muddied that there's no law that Aegon could have been breaking by taking the throne. Like yeah, it's a mess, but the Targaryen succession up until that point had been Aegon doing his thing and then passing the throne to his eldest son (straightforward, normal, God bless you Aegon I miss you) and then Maegor seizing the throne from his nephew because shrug.emoji I guess he was crazy, then Jahaerys kinda falling into it after the Iron Throne murked Maegor, and THEN we had the Great Council followed by all of this nonsense. And in all that time no one thought to hammer out the law? We're relying on the precedent of Aegon to Aenys and then the Great Council and only that? It's so insane to me, succession at that point was basically a free for all and stayed that way until Aegon ended up having Aegon the Younger as his heir and cementing the concept of "closest male descendant available is the heir no matter what".
(And no I don't see it as a usurpation of Jahaera because a) no law and b) Jahaera was not fit to be a reigning monarch any more than she was fit to be married if whatever intellectual disability she was hinted at having ended up making her seem half her age mentally, sucks but it is what it is).

"Aemond doesn’t know how to proceed after finding out what his mother did. However, he knows his husband would’ve understood no matter what avenue he chooses"
Ehehehe anon said they were already the dragonpit when it happens and since we're looking at GoT parallels well... Aemond deserves his Danny moment going a lil batshit crazy to destroy the castle and throne. Their dragons were conveniently right next to him yk. Maybe even Arrax obeys the command of dracarys for the drama since bby would also be grieving.
For the sake of this plot it's evil book!alicent, r@pist aegon and Otto, while Helaena married Jace and is at Dragonstone so Aemond really didn't give that many fucks about anyone in the palace :D
I hated show! Dany’s ending with a passion but for someone like Aemond who’s never been all that stable on the first place it’s actually pretty perfect. All that anger, the rage of finally having gotten the courage to admit his feelings after a lifetime of pushing away emotions only have everything be ripped away from him moments later. A bloodbath would be the only realistic outcome.
But how about this, the same concept of Luke being murdered right after they’ve confessed their feelings for one another only for things to turn out like the red wedding? I’m talking a complete massacre on the blacks. The moment Alicent sees her son crying over Lucerys bloody corpse is the moment she knew she fucked up going along with Otto’s plans.

Out of our main cast of people who do you think should become the ruler? (/2)
(Sorry just wanted to elaborate)
I'm going to use this ask as an opportunity to evaluate the HotD characters individually, since I suspect this is what you crazy cats want anyway! You can read my general thoughts on the matter here (Part I)
What we need to keep in mind with thought exercises like this is that, for people who are down the line of succession to become King/Queen, many other members of their family need to die, so that might leave them in a much more traumatized state and directly affect their ruling abilities. Furthermore, as a result of GRRM not understanding how children work, a lot of these characters are very young and haven't had a chance to prove themselves as a potential candidate, so there is simply not enough information.
I will say this, though - legal debates over Aegon's and Rhaenyra's claim can be conducted until kingdom come, but it doesn't change the fact that Aegon is the option that leads to the least amount of bloodshed. Rhaenyra's rule will always be threatened by her trueborn brothers. Aegon's rule would never be threatened by Rhaenyra's, because no one IRL would actually believe Rhaenyra has a better claim.
During the Anarchy, Stephen fought Matilda for years over the crown and he had less of a claim than Aegon. This notion that the greens are "usurping" the throne is absurd. It is not misogynistic to recognize Aegon's superior claim; it is borne out of the absence of codifying absolute primogeniture within a feudalistic patriarchal system that functions based on common law.
Alas, here we go.
Greens
Aegon II - I have spoken about this before in my House Hightower post, but I suspect that Aegon is the type of laissez-faire King that would allow his councilors to administer the realm without having to haggle too much. As long as his councilors are competent and Aegon doesn't do anything too outrageous, I don't see why this arrangement couldn't work.
Aegon as a political actor doesn't matter here, since he seems disinterested in ruling in the first place, his role is ceremonial and he exists just as a vessel to inhabit kinghood temporarily. His Small Council only needs him breathing, so they can leech out sovereignty from him. If/when Aegon dies from cirrhosis or an STD, a regency can be established for Prince Jaehaerys.
If we want to consider Aegon as an active political actor, we have to account for the fact that he doesn't really get a lot opportunity to decide for himself. We have no idea what Aegon's policies would be, whether he'd "levy a tax on the sale of new wool" or not. We only see King Aegon in war conditions and under extreme duress caused by his injuries.
That being said, he exhibits some traits we can take into consideration. One cannot deny Aegon is brave: he fights his own battles on the frontlines. He exhibits tremendous levels of grit, determination and ambition: he simply refuses to die despite his debilitating injuries (if he sets his mind on something, he will not give up until that task is completed). He tricks Rhaenyra out of Dragonstone - he somehow manages to convince several smallfolk to defect to his side and help hide him. Later on, he takes over the entire island with minimal casualties - he can inspire people to believe in him or at least has enough car saleman skills or the gib of the gab.
He allows his enemies to bend the knee and spares them (more than can be said for Rhaenyra). He wants to kill/castrate/send Aegon III to the Wall and behead Baela, but his councilors talk him out of it. Aegon is not without cruelty, but he is not without humanity either. He hates and he loves with equal fervor.
He is not the most merciful King at the end of the war, at his worst, in great pain and having suffered many losses. But his actions are not so dissimilar to something Robert or Stannis or Tywin might have done in his place. He refuses milk of the poppy so it won't cloud his mind, such as it remains. Aegon is the poster child for wasted potential.
Aemond - Another post on Aemond as King. A post on how Aemond could become King. With him it's important to keep in mind which version of the character we're talking about and at which point in time. Aemond in the books comes off as a cackling psychopath who is not exactly king material, regardless of how entertaining he is. However, the maesters writing down the histories do not give us a look inside his mind. We're not going to get a novel with Aemond's POV, so we have to see how his characterization evolves in the show. As we've seen so far, there are many directions you can take with a character like him.
Yes, Aemond will put House Strong to the sword. But so does Tywin Lannister eradicate the Houses Reyne and Tarbeck. Yes, he will ravage the Riverlands, but so does Tywin. Yet the general consensus of the people in-universe is that Tywin is a competent administrator of the Realm. Even Stannis waxes poetic about him at one point. What's important here is to establish whether Aemond's trauma will make him veer towards the Joffrey side of the spectrum or would it be more in line with the advice Tywin gives his grandson?
"Joffrey, when your enemies defy you, you must serve them steel and fire. When they go to their knees, however, you must help them back to their feet. Elsewise no man will ever bend the knee to you."
Daeron - I've spoken a little bit about Daeron here. I don't see why Daeron wouldn't be a decent king if given the chance, but the same question applies to him: would Daeron remain his charming, popular self after suffering so many losses?
Helaena - The line of succession is as follows: Aegon -> Jaehaerys -> Maelor -> Jaehaera -> Aemond -> Daeron -> Helaena. In order for Helaena to become Queen Regnant, it means that all her family, sans Alicent and Otto, need to die. I don't think she (or anyone) could possible handle this. She removes herself from the story for this very reason. If we are to consider her potential ruling abilities in a vacuum, she is known to be so popular with the smallfolk that they storm the Dragonpit because they are alarmed at her fate. That must speak to her charity work or at least good PR skills. She seems to be a generally well-liked person.
Blacks
I've spoken before about how Rhaenyra disqualifies herself from queenship in the second part of this post.
I've also touched upon why Daemon is a menace here. In addition, I would argue that Daemon is also simply incompetent. He is assigned various portfolios within the Small Council and he fails at his job every time. His stint as head of the Gold Cloaks is a terror regime.
I'm also going to disqualify Rhaenyra's bastard children as well, since their rule will inevitably turn into a succession crisis, if we are not to compromise on the internal logic established in Fire & Blood and in the main series. That being said, if Jace wants to take the throne by conquest (not by appealing to the law), he's going to be threatened in his rule by his trueborn half-brothers and/or their descendants. For Black supporters peddling this loving family narrative that Aegon/Viserys would never dream doing such a thing to their beloved bastard brothers, I kindly direct their attention to the story of Daeron II Targaryen and Daemon Blackfyre.
Aegon III was (understandably) a broken, depressed man that appeared aloof and cold to others (he is "not remembered fondly"), but his reign seems to have been pretty decent, all things considered, with nothing egregious happening. I would suggest that Aegon III is a depressed and repressed iteration of Aegon II, what with him locking himself in his room to "brood for days". It is said that his brother, Viserys II, was the one truly responsible for managing the affairs of the Realm.
Nevertheless, Aegon III and Viserys II produced such disaster children between them that it really effed up the realm for quite a long time afterwards. What I truly gawk at is their utter failure as parents, a fault that, when monarch, has institutional reverberations. Their treatment of Naerys, for example, is baffling.
Neither Aegon III or Viserys II recognized Rhaenyra as Queen. Aegon III became King as Aegon II's heir and was quickly married to Jaehaera to unite the two rival claimants. When his nephew Baelor the Blessed died, Viserys II passed over the claims of his nieces, further invalidating his mother's own legal argument. Even by Andal law, Daena was ahead of him in line to the throne. Viserys' own son Aegon IV is considered one of the worst kings in Targaryen history. Make of that what you will.
After the war, there is this interesting discussion about who should succeed Aegon III - Baela or Rhaena. They both lead an active life in King's Landing for a time and become very popular with the people, even meeting with envoys and visiting lords. As the eldest, Baela has the better claim, but the regents dislike that she is mischievous and willful and prefer Rhaena instead.
Baela befriends a variety of people from all walks of life in KL and has an adventurous, free spirit. She seems open-minded and enterprising and I wonder if that would reflect in her social policies. However, she would have had a better chance at being named Aegon's heir had she not ran away to marry Alyn Velaryon. The regents do not consider him royal consort material and turn to Rhaena as an option. The legality of this is questionable, but Baela loses the support of the lords by refusing to compromise. Perhaps the regents think they can pick the more malleable Rhaena, should anything happen to Aegon III, since Baela would be unlikely to contest her sister.
Out of the two, Rhaena appears to be more diplomatic and conciliatory. She marries a Hightower and ends up having 6 daughters. She hatches one of the last surviving dragons, Morning. It is not known what happens to Morning exactly, but she does not have a very long life for a dragon. I will say that the image of Rhaena as Queen with her pink dragon passing her throne onto her Hightower daughter is a pretty charming one. Perhaps this could have been the opportunity to codify absolute primogeniture or at least provide a strong, legal precedent within Westerosi common law for a regnant Queen. And we would have been spared the catastrophe of the Daeon I to Aegon IV pipeline.
Rhaena is also the last possible claimant. For her to become Queen, the Dance of the Dragons needs to happen, literally every other claimant in front of her (her family members) needs to die and Baela has to cede her the throne. The question of female inheritance has the possibility to be settled, but for a steep price.

On the topic of Vhagar and Caraxes 💚❤️(see my answered ask from @korovievs)…let’s talk Daemond…
Need to know your thoughts on them. Personally, they give me hives (in a good way?)
Tumblr media
^ veryyy much this LMAO. and very specifically just the chorus from ethel cain's two children in a motel.
Tumblr media
on a more serious note. the second sonism of it all..... i think daemon occupies this idol space in aemond's mind, like this powerful fighter who wields dark sister, this monstrous sceptre who exists on the edges of aemond's world. he surely wouldve grown up with tales of daemon in the stepstones etc, then experiences his fathers rage at daemon and rhaenyra marrying. i think aemond would v much relate to having an older brother who hates him, and who the court percieves as violent and occasionally terrible. of course, unlike daemon, aemond doesnt actually do anything except stalk around (until luke). like hes daemon if daemon was a flop. what alsoooo gets me is how they both try to make themselves copies of visenya - daemon has the sword but aemond has the dragon; daemon has the fighting ability and aemond has.... the hair? (aemond styling himself after daemon...) as i said flop and imo hes painfully aware of how he doesnt measure up, hence his obsession with daemon during the war. destroying your god to become him etc etc
also IM obsessed with the fact that despite daemond's apparent longing for the throne neither of them actually depose of their brothers...... the way they both are misunderstood by the general westeros population oooouughh. something about loyalty. i think aemond would try to make this point to daemon, that they both support their brothers' claims, but daemon would never be able to move past 'but you have rhaenyra. she is your eldest sister. your loyalty should be to her'. even when viserys is dead daemon defaults to rhaenyra (and jace, which ..... ), but when aemond and criston search for aegon he's all like 'i intend to be found' as though aegon's son doesnt exist lmaoooo
like i do think that theyre mirrors of each other and that they would recognise that..... (this being in some au where they fuck). aemond would be like 'this is what i want to be... wild and free' but not really capable of recognising the deep sadness daemon has to him? (imo daemon's always got this... something, he doesnt actually like revel in his position, yk? hes violent, but not like psychopathic gleeful about it, i guess). on the other hand daemon would look at aemond and be like oh my god boy you are pathetic. full of arrogant bluster. i think daemon would still fuck him but there wouldnt be the obsessiveness on his side that aemond would have. like half of the pleasure would be from aemond being viserys son. the other half would be from him liking aemond being a psychotic little baby freak. depends on the dynamics i think there are several good ways. actually rethinking about it the ONE thing about aemond that would actually send daemon crazy (in a bad way) is vhagar. i think he'd be so obsessive about finding out WHAT it is about this boy that's similar to his laena and his father.....
anyway as a ship i dont ever think theyd be 'in love' (see lyrics) but like. theyre the same. except theyre not. except they are, but theyre not 😵‍💫 like i very easily see daemon being aemond's whole world while to daemon his nephew is a like a little pet to amuse him when rhaenyra is upset with him. hmhmmng toxicity <3
even in like a modern/well-adjusted au i think aemond would be like uncle daemon pls like me pls pls pls and daemon is jsut a bit like. and which one are you
Tumblr media
lots of thoughts..... i have more im pretty sure but thats all i can think of for now!!!
thank you for asking i hope this was at least a little bit interesting! would lvoe to talk about them more. kisses kisses

Some of the Greens are crazy. Oh Rhaenyra doesn't deserve the throne because she was a spoiled little girl that always hid behind daddy. She didn't 'earn' her position as heir. Like due, it is a medieval world and Aegon (the teenage drunk rapist) only is considered a king because he has a dick. Like even if Rhaenyra dutifully 'suffered', it still wouldn't affect her right to the throne one way or the other.
yeah, i mean i definitely have joked (i hope everyone realizes i'm joking, i do Not believe in the divine right of kings and generally i think most rich people should be [redacted]) about being ~deserving of power or whatever, but that's more in a narrative context (ie, Bran is on a Hero's Journey and He Will Earn His Ending Narratively, not that I actually believe he is divinely chosen - because he is but as we see in the cave in the true north, being divinely chosen isn't a good thing because the gods do not give a shit about you they want to eat you.
and definitely the most insane thing about hotd discourse (or one of the most insane things) is that people will really genuinely talk about rhaenyra not deserving the throne because she's ~spoiled~ and aegon has the right because he's the boy. and before someone argues "well actually we're saying-" no, i'm saying there are some crazy ass people who will genuinely sit there and argue with you that male primogeniture should be respected it is mind boggling.
but even beyond that, i find the "rhaenyra is spoiled she doesn't deserve it" thing to be a really disingenuous way of framing the whole conflict. first of all, No One Deserves To Be King Or Queen, nor, as you say, is something like that earned it's inherited. She doesn't need to earn it, she was chosen by her father and that's the end of the conversation because that's how shit like that works. and if you want to contrast that with the other people who are in the line of succession - whomst exactly "deserves" power? Aemond??? Daeron?????? "oh well Helaena" cool so you're saying women should in fact be included in the line of succession???? like, what a stupid way of framing this whole thing lmao, the only character who even marginally "deserves" power is like, jacaerys and rhaenys and corlys (and helaena) because when given power they don't immediately use it to brutally torment other people but when you say "jace would be a good ruler" people just focus in on the bastard thing and then I just kinda stop paying attention lajdsf. and beyond that, like, the heir isn't "hiding behind daddy" she is attempting to turn to her own damn father for help and that should be fine, actually??? to ask your goddamn dad who put you in this position to go "hey i need backup."
anyways yeah, every time someone is like "well the war is right rhaenyra doesn't deserve to be queen" neither did jaehaerys' bitch ass but he was the next oldest and got the throne because, ya know, deserve has very little to do with legal authority!

It's really crazy how much TG lives in their own fanfiction.
This person also refuses and seems to understand that it is misogynistic that Rhaenyra ended up with a nickname equivalent to Maegor simply for arguing about taxes. Something that was advised to her by a man on her council, not even her idea. And what else could she do anyway ? There was no more money because the Greens took everything ! But obviously, it's all Rhaenyra's fault. Also, I find it hard to understand how the TG are good sovereigns when we see how they manage money ?
Also, the simple fact that she doesn't seem to accept and understand that Rhaenyra had more than half the kingdom on her side ? That the Greens weren't tied or had a majority ? She almost acts like everyone obviously wants to support them.
She advocates neutrality while she is openly TG, it annoys me.
Anyway, coming from a person who thinks that I can't read and don't know anything about the GRRM universe simply because I told a simple truth ; namely that women could not become Kingsguard. A truth according to her that is false because since Visenya created the Kingsguard, apparently that means that women can be too ? Sorry, but how can we seriously support such a stupid thing ? It's not because Visenya created the Kingsguard that women can become one! In the era of ASOIAF / GOT a woman can't even be a knight ! So Kingsguard in the time of Rhaenyra ?! Make me laugh !
She's also exactly the kind of person who will try to explain to you that Rhaenyra can't be the legitimate heir because apparently there is no legitimate heir under the pretext that the law is vague. Stupid, the only real law that matters is the word of the king. It kills me that they are trying so hard to deny it ?!
I'm not going to talk about our least favorite troll, so I won't refer to her statement, but rather the general attitude among TGs.
Alicent's mistakes and crimes are explained by the fact that it was not her fault, but the evil men around her who coerced and manipulated her. She is a victim of evil men. Rhaenyra's mistakes and crimes are Rhaenyra's mistakes and crimes. The end.
This is what some people think.
This can be extended further to other TG characters: Did Helaena go crazy and commit suicide after her children died? Poor thing, it was completely explainable, the death of murdered children is a huge tragedy that will devastate everyone! Rhaenyra went crazy and paranoid after the death of her children? This is no explanation! You can't explain this to her, she's a terrible tyrant!
Rhaenyra's reign was not good, but there was much more to it than the fact that Rhaenyra "is evil, spoiled, narcissistic and generally yuck." People accuse her of not being a feminist because she didn't decree that from now on all daughters would inherit on an equal footing with sons… Do any of these people even know how emancipation developed in the real world? It didn't work that way. Rhaenyra was to be the first woman in power. It was the first step, and true emancipation often takes generations. In Poland we had Jadwiga of Anjou and guess what? She took the throne as a king, not a queen, so she could rule, and that didn't miraculously result in women being treated equally to men from then on. Rhaenyra listened to her advisors and therefore did not decree that daughters would inherit before sons or cousins, because she knew she could not make too many changes in one moment. She listened to the advisors, but it was still her fault. It's just as much her fault for stealing the Driftmark from Baela and Rhaena… even if Corlys preferred to legitimize his bastard and make him heir rather than give the inheritance to Laena's daughters! Rhaenyra is fully to blame for the riots and dragon slaying, even if the Shepherd was simply looking for a suitable excuse to overthrow the rich and lords. It wasn't even about Rhaenyra, and if Aegon had been on the throne then, there would have been riots anyway. The Shepherd would simply find another reason! For example, the fact that people were starving and Aegon built golden statues of war criminals…
She realizes that Rhaenyra was not a good queen, but that was due to the situation. War, lack of money, riots incited by the Shepherd, and on top of her own emotional problems that resulted from almost her entire family being killed. If someone doesn't see it, he or she is simply a TG pro, not a "neutral" person who, strangely enough, justifies only one side of the conflict.

I know you're going to make it as canon as possible, but call me crazy but I'm going to feel sorry for Aegon's deterioration, despite the twisted mind he has, I have the perception of him, as a person overwhelmed by obligations, continually messing with Aemond in a kind of brotherhood, and claiming love from his mother, even his way of provoking Daenera is funny and not hostile (lately) But well, power corrupts anyone, and more to him who has never felt he belonged to anything
I try to make him as close to canon as possible, but I also have a lot of sympathy towards him as a character--and in saying that, I mean I have an understanding why he is the way he is.
(This is so much longer than I thought it would be, but I hope you understand and feel the same, also thank you for the message! It helps to discuss this with someone, or at least put it down somewhere)
I do believe he loves his family, but he's someone who was brought up on the fear of being killed and replaced, as Otto and Alicent has instilled this in him thoughout his life with the 'If she takes the throne, she will have you all killed.' And not only is it a fear of him getting killed, but the whole fear of his family getting killed BECAUSE of him.
And Alicent and Otto as both enforced this fear and expectation on him since he was born, so much so that he began to buckle beneath the weight of it; and then he turned to self medicating with wine. He has likely always felt like a burden, like he wasn't good enough, wasn't what they wanted. I think that it reached a point where he just went 'I can't live up to their expectations so I might as well just how the worst of me, then no one can expect anything different' He dulls his feelings of inadequacy with wine and whores and leaning into any and all vices. He indulges in 'depravity' as both self medication and self harm.
I don't condone his actions and I think he's an utterly deplorable person, but I understand his character. I think the reason why he assaults young women/bordering on children, is because it gives him control. He likes to see people squirm and revels in their misery. He wants others to feel the same loss of control, the same powerlessness and hopelessness and fear he's felt, so he assaults you women. And we cannot forget that he's a man in Westeros, a Targaryen prince no less, he's born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He's entitled and he feels entitled to take what he wants. Alicent has continuously cleaned up his messes, has held a hand over him and never really told him off about it, so why not continue? But I also think it's sort of a punishment for his mother--to have her clean up his messes, to shove it in her face almost.
And now, he's being forced to wear the crown, knowing that no one but his mother and grandfather wanted him to have it. He again feels powerless and without any control. And with Aemond bringing him back to this misery he perceives it to be, he resents him for it--but he's still his brother and he still loves him....
And yeah, he's been more teasing than encroaching on Daenera in recent times, but as he promises in the teaser; “Let me go, and I will let you have her – if you don’t, I swear I will drag her down into the same misery that’s been forced upon me.” He will make her suffer for it. There's A LOT of dick moments coming where Aegon is just... horrible, because what happens when someone like him suddenly have the ultimate power? What happens when he finally feels the 'love' and 'admiration' he never got from his family?
“A child weaned on poison considers harm a comfort.”- Gillian Flynn
That doesn't mean, however, that we wont see more of Aegon's and Aemonds brotherly love/duty/loyalty. And perhaps at some point, Aegon will become less of a dick towards Daenera, because after the whole Storm's End incident he's a total menace in the worst way. And he likes to see Daenera squirm.
((I will say, I likely will also lean into WHY he's the way he is as a king and person, I mean, it's very interesting and he for sure wants his mother's love without all the barbs that usually follow. He is essentially a broken boy who breaks his toys))
Edit: Aegon is gonna be so mean and cruel and cunty, but I kind of find it fun to write.

Rants over anti-Targaryen :
Explain to me the logic of people who think that black people are crazy in the series? I mean… Under what pretext? They are no worse than the other Houses in this universe though. Pro-racial? Supremacist? Why do people throw words they don't seem to know the definition of? All this to proudly say I am anti-imperialist and anti-royalist? Like… Have you read GOT? Do you know the universe of this story in general? Do you even know the history of the other houses before calling the Targaryens supremacists or colonizers?! The Targaryens have nothing to do with fucking colonizers or supremacists! Htiler was a supremacist! Oh, sorry, I forgot that sometimes Targaryens are also Nazis...
Tumblr media
Horrible, because Blood and Cheese? Do you realize that Aemond shed blood first in this case? I'm not saying it justifies it, but it's a point worth noting. Black people didn't decide to kill a child just for fun.
You are also aware that the case must have escaped a chouilla at the hands of Daemon? He wasn't with the assassins when it happened. I doubt the guy, having a mandate against rape and having never raped anyone that we know of (although for obscure reasons many say he is) would suggest/order his killers to threaten to rape their target ? To think that Daemon is willfully responsible in the DETAILS for what happened that day is stupid. Just look at a minimum of historical fiction to find out.
Tumblr media
The only thing he really did for sure (although he is indeed indirectly responsible for the rest that happened) was to send the assassins, no matter the risk, to have the son of Aegon II to avenge the death of his stepson Luke, (although having innocent children killed is horrible), also an innocent children, who I remember was killed by Aemond, starting the fucking war !
And, what is this obsession with saying that Blood and Cheese is what actually started the war?! No, it is not! Stop trying to blame Daemon for everything, especially when Aemond is really responsible!
Tumblr media
Seriously, the amount of times I see Daemon = mass murderer / rapist / war maker is mind boggling! Especially knowing that it is in fact AEMOND, and not DAEMON, who committed all these crimes! Do you know how to read people?!
Tumblr media
Let's not even talk about that grooming bullshit fixed on Daemon for his relationship with Rhaenyra, but never apply to other men in this universe because fuck the logic? Daemon was exiled for 7 fucking years, having no contact with Rhaenyra since she was 7, returning when she was 14! So an adult according to the laws of Westeros and ready to marry! It's not because he would have seduced her that it is similar to grooming! Review your fucking definitions, and open your history books! And why is no one talking about Criston Cole?! Whoever desired Rhaenyra when he ACTIVELY spent his time with her as a protector from when she was a CHILD until she was 16?! At least Daemon barely spent time with Rhaenyra (as likely as she can't remember being too young) when she was a kid!
Tumblr media
How would Hightowers, Vaemond Velaryons and others be "unfairly" criticized for their ambition, but Rhaenyra be praised for putting her "non-Velaryon" son on a throne he had NO right to?!
Tumblr media
So, we agree that it's just the blood that matters to you?
Colrys chose his heir alone! I'm not saying it's good compared to Baela, but the fact is that she was never inherited, or even considered to be by Colrys, so nothing was stolen from her! Colrys is the one who chose Lucerys as his rightful successor, and Rhaenyra fights for her son's right as a result, which she is right to do! Lucerys was adopted and loved by Laenor as a father, so IF Lucerys IS a Velaryon, besides being a Targaryen! We don't care about the purity of the blood! Colrys knows very well that Lucerys is not his biological grandson, and he doesn't care!
People say it's hypocritical to say we don't care about blood purity, because a lot of Daemyra argue that it's the couple's sons, in terms of "blood purity" logistics, who have more legitimized to the Iron Throne. Except we say that, (at least the ones I've seen) precisely to counter those who use this "blood purity" bullshit to try and kick the children of Rhaenyra off the throne, as if Aegon II were once again the principal inherited accordingly, which it is not, even in their absurd logic! Rhaenyra's children will always be first in line! And you know what proves it? Well simply that George Martin made Aegon III and Viserys II future kings of Westeros. Very good kings, moreover. Even if Jace should indeed have been the next ruler after Rhaenyra as the first born child of the latter in the succession. Rest in peace.
Damn, in one of the versions of the dance, Rhaenyra was not even supposed to have children called "bastards", to be rightly legitimate in the eyes of society! And guess what? The dance would have taken place anyway!
Viserys chose Rhaenyra. Colrys chose Lucerys. We accepted these choices, and swore fidelity accordingly to these heirs. Succession to the Iron Throne or Drifmark were not in question. The Hightowers, and Vaemond Velaryons for doing so are therefore traitors and usurpers, whether you like it or not. This is treason, a crime, JUST by the fucking law you're trying to use to fire Lucerys!
Tumblr media
While on the side the greens are apparently self-aware? Really ? These people who speak of descent, blood and laws to justify themselves in their thirst for power and mysoginia are CONSCIOUS of themselves?! That Aemond is friendlier in the book? That Aegon was demonized on the show? You're talking to me about the two rapist brothers in the book, right? More sympathetic in the book and demonized in the series, my ass!
Explain this logic to me?! Even blacks fought more humanely than the greens ever did in the fucking war they started and people try to either put them on the same level or pretend that blacks are worse than the Greens?!
Tumblr media
But go read another story that your Puritan morals can handle! Like Grisha for example! Whose author Leigh Bardugo also claims to be a fan of George, lol. Because in case you haven't noticed, the Targaryens are the heroes and not the villains of George Martin's fucking story! (God, how I want George to finish writing his books one day and Daenerys survive them just to see them screaming that the author is an incest apologist, imperialist, supremacist, colonizer, Nazi and so on) It's in the title of his fucking original saga! A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE!
Damn sorry, but I needed to vent a bit after yet another stupid post I came across in the Rhaenyra Targaryen tag.

The post in question, if that interests you :
Shit !

Right, I managed to watch another episode of HotD today and I’m just struggling to see why Rheanyra is such a dick to Alicent, when she even says “I don’t want to be stuck in a castle pushing out heirs” (or something of the sort) then looks at Alicent and apologises and holds her hand… she clearly understands she can’t do anything to help it yet still blame her for everything? Not everyone is a princess who can be as snarky to men in charge as they’d like because their father is the King and will sweep it under the rug.
Also.. why do people think Rheanyra is the one who has been wronged? I’m just watching how she is with Criston Cole and as much of a dick head he is to the Strong boys later on in the future, she gave no signal or signs that she wouldn’t run away with him to get married and be happy? She complained about her future reign as heir and how it’s a burden and how no one will want her on the throne for being a female and how she wants to be happy and she sleeps with him multiple times but when Criston offers her an out a way to be happy, she’s like “you’re crazy, why would I do that?” Like whatttt??? That’s what you’ve literally been complaining about for years..
Alicent, poor fucking Alicent.. watching her sad doe eyes react to everything that happens to her that she can’t change but has to live with makes me want to kill Viserys and Otto. Having to watch him bed her with his decaying body on show and his mouldy arm and she can’t stop it because it’s her “duty”, bloody well hurts. How did no one see how miserable she was? Everyone was just filling her head with Aegon being heir because it’s his right and Rheanyra wanting to kill him in the future for him being a boy and having a better claim than her. I’d be paranoid too. Who wouldn’t?
Not only that but she wanted to help Rhaenyra, that’s all she’s ever tried to fucking do, as soon as she found out about the rumour she went to Rhaenyra to try and help her fix it all and get to the bottom of it, the truth. She even went against her dad to do so. Then she got lied to, straight to her face, Rhaenyra pulling the “sister” bullshit, was just the icing in the cake for me not liking her. Alicent believed her and stuck up for her to the king and blamed Daemon (it was 50/50 Daemon and Rhaenyra) which in the end git her father fired only to find out she’s not lost her father and her friend was a liar thanks to Larys (cheers for that rat boy xox). When she walked in, in her green dress I physically shouted “YEAH!”.
Daemon was interesting for all of two minutes, he was fun to watch until he came back from the Stepstones, then he was just annoying. They’ve ruined his character completely and I’m not ready to watch him be dismissive and rude to Laena, they were so in love in the books. They really did love each other but the show writers said ‘fuck it.’ him killing Rhae Royce like that was again fucking stupid. They were together for nearly 20 years and he never once thought of killing her, never once out his hands on her despite how much he hated being married to her and how much he loathed just her in general. Yet all of a sudden he’s smashing her head in with a rock? That makes no sense.. like what? Who wrote this shit?
Viserys. Cunt. That’s all I have to say. I like writing and reading about these characters because they’re interesting to read and write about but good god watching poor Alicent struggle with Aegon and Helaena looking like she just wants to end it all and be done with it makes me feel sad. This man married again to have more children and name his first son his heir, he admits to naming Rhaenyra heir because he didn’t want it to be Daemon, there was no other reason. So he married again to have a son and make him heir, he ruined Alicents life (and Otto did too!) to just not name her son heir who she gave up her childhood and little freedom for. She gave it up to have him be the next king.
She could’ve found a young lord and been happy and not have to be forced into bedding that corpse yet she didn’t because she had to woo the fucking king as her father told her too (he was her dad, back then she had to do it, she had no choice) and Viserys went along with it because she was young and new and he got attention from her. He knew he shouldn’t be doing this with her because he literally told her not to tell Rhaenyra because, “she wouldn’t understand” I wonder why? All of the unmarried women in the entire seven kingdoms and he didn’t decide to be smart and go “Hm, maybe they should come here so I could pick the best option for me and the kingdoms.” I’m not having there weren’t better options than a 12 year old child and a 15 year old girl who’s his daughters best friend… what he did to Aemma made me feel violently ill.
Anyway, rant over until I watch more episodes <3
I CAN'T AGREE WITH YOU ENOUGH !!
“I don’t want to be stuck in a castle pushing out heirs”
As much as I want to...i kinda forgive her for that. Because Alicent was slightly insensitive when she spoke of how easy Aegon came..which I think was a lie anyway. But I don't think she meant any harm to it...i wonder of Rhaenyra's motives.
“you’re crazy, why would I do that?” Like whatttt??? That’s what you’ve literally been complaining about for years..
I hadn't even thought about that to be honest...it really didn't come as left field as people think. Of course, people can change their mind but don't pretend it was never there. She wanted to run away before..yeah, with Alicent..but the motive existed.
I can't even watch that when she's under him..and he asks if she's enjoying it or whatever ..ugh . it's heartbreaking and I hate it !

The aspect of House of the Dragon that irks me the most is that it's clear the writers/executives/etc have learned nothing from the direction taken on Game of Thrones. They're following the same pattern with portraying one side as unquestionably right no matter what their bad deeds are and minimizing their impact (House Stark/Team Black) while doubling down on portraying the opposite side with little nuance and little transition into their worst qualities (Dothraki/Daenerys/Team Green).
This isn't to absolve people like Daenerys or Aegon II of their worst qualities as they've done awful things that I have no interest in defending, but it's really disappointing to see that they've yet again decided to whitewash a bunch of characters on Team Black and make everyone against them crazy or vicious to justify how the war broke out.
It gives bitter flashbacks to how the Stark's/the North's xenophobia, othering, and paranoia was pretty much glossed over to further the story while everyone else was made out to be an idiot or crazy. It's especially worse in HOTD because they have tried to remove any level of complexity in Rhaenyra, and glossed over her and Daemon killing an innocent (black) servant so Laenor could escape and they could get married before Laena's body was even cold.
It's a shame because this show could've been much more interesting and fixed the issue of the original GOT where they tried to have unquestioned good guys. But here we are.

Sorry but there is no way they'll delay Blood and Cheese until ep 5 or even the end, it will be in the beginning of the season. The season is only 10 episodes long and they will have to show everything that happens up to Rhaenyra taking Kings landing. Do you really think they will end the season on a note where team black would look bad? The show will rely on the audience and most people are already on team black hype train, everyone will go crazy when Rhae will sit on the throne in ep 10. It will be team black triumph, not team green. If we are lucky they won't whitewash Daemon from B&C but Rhae? She will be innocent on all accounts. Ep 5 will be the Rook's rest and again, if we are lucky Aegon and Aemond won't be shown completely incompetent compared to girlboss Rhaenys, but I doubt it, there is a high possibility they will make Aemond losing control of his dragon again to make him a total loser. And if we're very very lucky we'll see Helaena fly Dreamfyre at least once in the series but I really doubt they will show her loved by people, they changed her character to turn her into a victim of the greens already, she can't have her own agenda. Then in the end of the season they will have some fanservice scenes with Rhaenyra and Alicent to make Emma, Olivia and the shippers happy.
That's certainly a black pill take.
If Sapochnik will still in charge, I'd be right there with you.
But they've got new show runners and GRRM took over the writing with Condal.
The only thing that Condal said since they started rewriting Season 2 was that he thinks that people were going to switch sides to Team Green this season ... I took that to mean that it had something to do with Daeron. But it could also be that they're sort of resetting the show and the characters back into what they're supposed to be - or at least what GRRM intended them to be.
Also Condal seems to be low-key hostile and annoyed at all the Team Black ... psychoses. I mean I've heard people say that he said that he absolutely loves writing for Aemond ... and that he is one of his favorite ASoIaF characters.
So who knows.
I took Cooke and D'arcy going out in public pushing the "Alicent is in love with Rhaenyra" shit as a bit of a trying to create a narrative in the media to force the issue on a complete reset in which they no longer have any creative control over the project or their characters. Alan Taylor is famous for building infrastructure and execution of scripts as written. And I expect a completely different show with altered characters.
I'd expect Criston to be way more intelligent
Aegon to be more serious and responsible
Daemon to be more ruthless
Rhaenyra to be angrier
Alicent more assertive
Helaena to be more lucid
Aemond to be more important.
And if they do Daeron right ... he'll be a quiet badass that seems good natured but can get deadly real quick and get dark and scary when pushed.
