in the past couple years i keep getting hopelessly obsessed with various pieces of media that exactly 11 people care about and its very interesting because it’s really made me appreciate physical and/or offline media even more than i already did

this is kinda specific but for the better part of like 2015-2019 i had like this weird problem where I was the only person I knew of with a copy of the 1992 ottawa ballet company tv movie The Tin Soldier narrated by Sally Struthers (essentially the pilot for the canadian childrens show The Toy Castle) and while it took me a while to actually digitize it (it’s a vhs copy but luckily my local library has vhs conversion stuff) it was...very strange, the feeling of like “come on there has to be SOMEWHERE on the internet where you can watch this got damn tv movie my shitty vhs copy CANT be the only hope” and luckily i wasn’t the only hope ‘cause sometime in 2019 someone uploaded their own copy to youtube, and like, okay both of our copies are bad quality but in different ways sjkdladskjalajdfd the copy on youtube seems like it might be from a dvd but it has a lot of weird artifacts and framerate jumping, and mine is a 50 minute movie on a cheap EP tape and BOY does it look it hjkfdshjds it also has some overscan problems. so if you want to watch the tin soldier 1992 narrated by sally struthers you can choose from one kinda funky copy on youtube or i guess you can ask for my Very Funky vhs rip if you want orz but i’m glad i have it, its honestly one of my prized posessions (even if i did buy it for 7 dollars years ago)

about two years ago i got incredibly obsessed with the song Anata wa Umi no Soko by Mikoto Momono, the theme song for the ps1 game Moonlight Syndrome (its a good song) BUT the problem was at the time the only place you could really listen to it was youtube (and maybe apple music? i dont count that because 1) I dunno if it would be available in my region and 2) if you ever ask me to make an apple account again im going to replace your legs) and like, a shortened version ripped from the game, but like I WANTED to hear a higher quality version!!! so i spent forever searching for a reasonably priced copy of an ep by the artist that included it (sour milk sea) and that took a while bUT I GOT IT it was very cheap but spotless, i guess it was under 15 dollars because it didn’t have an obi anymore (if it ever had one). anyway its interesting cause now i have a really fucked up cd collection: sour milk sea by mikoto momono and some taylor swift album a friend gave to me because he had bought a couple copies (for the polaroids) from target when it existed in canada dsadjghfdsasdfddsa OH and i also ended up with a used copy of the launch edition of etrian odyssey 5 so now i have that lil sound selection cd too lol

actually speaking of fucked up media collections my home video collection is pretty fucked too like it consists of the aforementioned tin soldier vhs, a dvd of the first tinkerbell movie i got for my birthday when i was like 10 (it has a really nice and glittery dust cover thing), that one bargain bin type straight to dvd movie A Fairy Tale Christmas (a friend bought it for me as a goof, I should see if she wants to watch it with me sometime), and the other day I listened to an english fan translation of the famicom sound novel Otogirisou and then I got lost in the sauce (did you know there was a 2016 game that was both a sequel to otogirisou while also being a tie in crossover game to danganronpa...for some reason thats blowing my mind) and i found out there was a movie based off it and even though it seems to have pretty polarizing critical reception i STILL wanna see it so bad BUT i couldnt find it anywhere online!!! what the hell!!!! it was even released in north america with english subtitles and a dub??? a fucking dub???? i always forget dubbing live action movies was a pretty big thing before the 10s, its probably not necessarily Good as it is from 2004 but it is fascinating at least... ANYWAY it was so hard to find!!!!!!! not even if I yarr and maybe harr!!!!!! but luckily i was able to find a really cheap dvd copy so I guess add that to my fucked up home video collection jkjdsagkfdjsdfsd but im glad, struggling to find these things online at all, legally or otherwise, has really made me understand just how important it is to have physical stuff and offline stuff and backups of backups because media can be. fleeting. especially if its something thats not even technically obscure or lost or anything, just weirdly inaccessible because maybe 3 people care about it lol

//Rubs his hands together like the little cretin he is//

Okay so keep in mind I usually have several AUs that branch off to other AUs so it turns into an AU tree, but here’s some base stuff for this specific monster Deku design.

*Originally when he first started to turn, he was able to keep a mostly human appearance since his tail was much shorter

*The ends of his “feet” are very sharp and pointed. He can skewer a person or another monster on them. They also can be ripped from his body and they will regrow back.

*He mostly eats other monsters and rarely humans. Not all monsters are like this though. His biology lets him eat normal “Human” food with no conquences.

*The back of his skin and arms are covered in white and black scales similar to a panda ball python.

*His legs can bend till his little “toes” are what he’s walking on. This is left over from when he use to look human. Having both sides of legs being close together could give enough stability for he could appear to be walking up right with no tail.

*He has two sets of teeth. Better hope he don’t clamp down. He’s not venomous but the compression from his jaw could legit break thick bones.

*Even though it’s possible for him to swallow things whole, he does not do that. It’s just a very weird feeling to him .

Now for specific Au’s:

Exotic “Animal” Au:

*Overhaul caught him when he was young and treats him like an exotic pet than an actual human. (Yes like a legit pet you kinky people)

*His name is Moo Moo because of the coloring on his back. Overhaul never got around to giving him a better name so the name stuck.

*Moo Moo’s treats are a tin of cookies. He will attempt to swipe them if you aren’t watching him closely.

*He’s very shy and doesn’t like new people. When Overhaul was trying to introduce Shigaraki to Moo Moo, he had Shigaraki to hold some cookies out for then he would come out from underneath the couch he was hiding under. Shigaraki of course was a little unnerved to find out Overhaul’s “Pet” was a human being.

*In this Au, Overhaul specializes in selling “Exotic Animals” aka Monsters. And since there isnt’ exactly a law against selling said “Animals”, Hero’s weren’t able to really get anything pined to him beyond child endangerment and tax evasion.

A Friend In Need Au:

*It is unknown what exactly what happened to Inko but she’s not in the picture since Izuku is absolutely alone. (It’s mostly believed she either left on her own or just suddenly disappeared. No one really knows)

*Starts when Izuku hasn’t been in school for a month or so and nobody in the house has been answering phone calls. Bakugo’s mom gets worried and tell him to go visit “Aunty Inko” to make sure she and Izuku are okay.

*He eventually gets to their apartment and almost leaves when he doesn’t get a reply to his knocking. Deciding to be noisy he gets the spare key that’s hidden in a fake plant and opens the door.

*It’s absolutely pitch black but the whole place smells rotten. As if food or meat had been left out for a long time. In the kitchen several dishes lay in the sink. Flies, mold, and other bugs swarm it. Grossed out he calls out getting no answer.

*Spotting the single light on in the apartment, he goes to it not sure what he should expect. Slowly opening the door reveals the room swarming with flies. And in a dirty, bloated gore filled bathtub is Izuku. Gagging a little he pulls Izuku out. Only to realize that floating masses in the bathtub are the remnants of his legs.

*His torso has elongated and has way more virtibre, giving him a small tail. Obviously freaked out he puts Izuku on a couch and calls his mother.

Left Alone AU:

*Similar to several beats in A Friend In Need Au, Inko is kinda missing, and Izuku is in the bathtub when he starts to transform. Unlike it though, it’s not extremely slow process but a fairly fast one that happens over two weeks.

*Izuku does not attend UA and never meets all might because he was at home transforming when those events would’ve happened.

*Even though Inko is missing, Hisashi still pays the bills and stuff so he’s not homeless. But the more he transforms the harder it is for him to keep up with appetite. He’s always hungry.

*As stated above in general information, he uses his legs to appear mostly human. It hurts a lot though, and often he uses a cane bacause it’s painful to walk like this for him.

*It’s an accident the first time he eats a human, but eating humans does sate his hunger. He combines this with human food hoping it helps. It kinda does. Except when it doesn’t.

*Bakkugo is highly suspicious of him. He knows something is up but has no idea what exactly it is.

Pen + Toby + Health, Pen + Vance, Pen + Canny

The plus side to being a wild genetic clone is you’re designed (by the point he was made at least) with a p good immune system, so a lot of clones from his era and beyond don’t have much in terms of allergies and don’t get sick often.

Of course, there’s the whole dark matter infection issue. It’s typically dormant but on occasions of intense negative emotion it tries to draw itself out. Toby’s rage often makes him dangerous for this reason, which is part of the reason he tries to force out optimism in dark situations. It doesn’t effect him as bad as it used to when he was younger, but being exposed to larger sources can also make it worse.

Also, post Max fight, Toby had to use his space arm to heal a fatal injury. It causes his heart to act funky sometimes rip. Cryptor wants to find a way to fix it but there isn’t really anything to be done about it. Sometimes it’s random but overuse of his space powers can make it happen more frequently. He tends to just lay down until it passes.

Vance is………….. baby. If I had to give any of my OCs the “pure” label it is this boy. He’s got so much optimism and love, and my favorite part is he uses it as a weapon. He’s not so naive that he keeps seeing Inspector as a hero when the elitist prick is clearly turning down another program just cause of where she came from. In fact he calls him out on it more than once. And Vance is a determined little bugger.

Not to say he isn’t naive at times, because he’s pretty young and clueless, but he’s no bobo the fool

SLKDJF Canny issss… well idk how much I want to say out here just yet, but my friend designed him. He’s a fusion, because they made a chart and one slot was empty and I was like “What’s behind the [redacted] OP?” And I was like welp it’s not only a fusion of two of my favs it’s also thieving robot boy um new crush.

His name is based on his personality haha (also a tin can joke). He steals, a lot, but because of what he’s made of he also won’t do something that puts people in a lot of danger, and also won’t leave them in danger either. He’ll help if you ask, but often helps himself to expensive stuff along the way.

I’m still getting to know him, maybe I’ll write a thing down the road but who knows.

Oh and if you want a really fun fact about Canny

His hair looks like Saskue’s when it’s down

The In The Garden EP will be the sixth Scott Lloyd release to date and covers insightful themes such as getting older, childhood, mental health and loss. Normally a solo performer, Scott has used a full band to back him on the EP, which is a step away from his previous acoustic sound. The EP was recorded at Limefield Studios, Manchester in July 2016 and will be released independently by Scott.

No 3: Ian Roland & Simon Yapp

On Ralph's Radio KC Indie Show next Sunday (March 5th) we'll be featuring a few a few Americana styled tracks so it was very timeous when Day Became You, the new EP from Ian Roland & Simon Yapp was dropped off via the good offices of the postal service.

Produced by Nigel Stonier (Thea Gilmore, The Waterboys, Joan Baez, Martha Wainwright, Fairport Convention et al), the EP is the new release by Folk, Americana duo Ian Roland & Simon Yapp.

No 4: Syd.31

Self-styled angriest band in the UK Syd.31 have pronounced that they're taking rage to a level rarely heard before.

With two successful EPs and a single behind them, they are attempting to redefine what it means to be a band as society rips itself apart - music with purpose and impact. Imagine Slayer joining forces with Die Antwoord, or the bastard love child of Grace Jones and the late lamented Sid Vicious fronting Atari Teenage Riot.

No 5: Snippet

Today's post focuses on the quintessentially English songwriting of Johnno Casson who performs under the pseudonym of Snippet.

April 7th will see the release of his new album Future Melancholy Pop Music and the title sees the contents doing exactly what it says on the tin. It's 15 tracks of reflective, retrospective, introspective, captivating, engaging, satirical, funky and just plain compulsive lo-fi listening pleasure.

No 6: Graham Marshall

It's fair to say we're fans of Graham Marshall here in the kennel, not only due to his infectious glass-gargling voice but also due to the tenacity of the man in what is for many, a long and difficult path to achieve anything close to recognition, never mind fame and fortune.

Ralph will be giving a track from Mr Complicated a spin soon on the Radio KC Indie Show so make sure you tune in every Sunday from 5-7pm GMT on rkc.noip.me. and hopefully we'll see Graham Marshall hitting the road soon and not just in his 40' ASDA delivery truck.

Ralph's long been a fan of Factory Acts who are a Salford post-punk electro duo who live on the edge of the analogue-digital divide, sometimes dreaming, always dancing.

After garnering copious amounts of critical acclaim with their debut EP Thirst in 2014, Salford's underground, post-punk maestros Factory Acts return with their highly anticipated sophomore release Second Amendment which is available on official release April 21st.

No 8: Partisan

Formed in Manchester in 2013, Partisan are a Rock band who are committed to their cause. Their punchy, bold and unflinching anthems are taking authentic Rock back into the mainstream, evidenced by their ever increasing fanbase.

Ralph gave it a pre-release spin on the Radio KC Indie Show last Sunday and the Electro-Rock innovators from London are set to hit the ground running this spring, touring alongside fellow Indie-Rock tastemakers Dantevilles.
