top 5 magireco designs :3

*cracks knuckles* I’m not going to post images here because it would make the post waaay too long. Anyways my favorite kind of designs are ones that utilize simple shapes or have something really strange and out there.

Number Five: Asuka Tatsuki

This one is really simple and that’s probably why it appeals to me, lol. But I like the aesthetic overall and I think it looks really neat. The colors are kind of monotonous but not in a boring way, and I dunno?? It just looks cool. 10/10

Number Four: Ria Ami

It’s like the essential magical girl! It has almost all my favorite elements going for it; a vest, it’s got tasteful amounts of frill, and it has that kind of moon-crescent shape that goes over the skirt (I am so bad at explaining things I am sorry). I think her little hair accessories are adorable too, and I like all the fragile looking details of the gems and chains. I think this design could have really easily become over-designed, but imo it it didn’t and looks great.

Number Three: Seika Kumi

...Like Ami, this has all my favorite elements: vests, crescent-shaped skirts, it also has cool shapes/patterns and it’s kind of Alice in Wonderland themed without being too on the nose. The hat is really charming and I like her side ponytail. 

Number Two: Sister Momoko

Number One: Moka Megumi

THIS IS SO FUCKING CUTE WTF. IT’S GOT A GREAT THEME AND AN AMAZING SHAPE TO IT. Man, I love a design that uses brown! It totally screams bakery without being obnoxious about it and I love that the detail is within tasteful limits without being overdone. The bottom of the dress feels like it has real weight to it and I like how the puff of it matches the little puffs at the top of her sleeves. Her shoe + sock combo looks great. Her big stupid poofy bow is adorable.

Yeah, for sure! I thought that was what I was saying, though maybe I didn’t make myself clear-- that sure, there’s an element of narrative convenience, but it’s so fitting for the atmosphere of this school and these highly-trained kids.

I know Castor and Pollux, yeah; I was a little obsessed with them for a while in high school haha... and I can see “passing one another as they exchange roles” as a reference if you accept that the movie is what happens after the series, which I don’t :p I mean, if that’s the fandom’s consensus, I respect it, but I’d rather not look at it that way. It is neat to see that shot in the OP that way, though, with the passing each other by thing. I’d be more likely to spin that out into a metaphor about how despite how much they care for each other, Anthy and Utena just dramatically failed to communicate through most of the series....

And yeah, those readings of the cars pretty much align with what I was thinking, especially if we consider the agency that Shiori has being... the agency to drive herself off the road, because she keeps making damaging choices. And Wakaba using her own choices to help her friends, which she did throughout the series, but didn’t quite manage to help herself just yet-- we saw a little of it in Wakaba Flourishing, how she started to grow and be happy but was still attributing it all to the presence of Saionji in her dorm. She’ll get there, I know she will-- she’s a strong girl-- but it takes time.

2) kimi ni furete from bloom into you! i havent actually finished the anime but the op song is sooo pretty, especially once the guitar kicks in 🥺

hey this is so random and im sorry if this ends up being bothersome somehow but how do u interpret anthys age? askin cuz in canon its implied the duels have been goin on for centuries and anthy is of course all knowing on the duels but its unknown exactly if shes like ageless or a teen or whatevs 😳 i personally interpret her as 14 (more exactly she stayed 14 mentally and physically throughout the duels and can only age after leaving ohtori) but extremely fucked up bcuz of obvs reasons but that's just me :3

no worries at all, thank you for the ask! shes ‘canonically’ listed as 14 and i also see her as that -- i think of her as, like mikage, having been physically & mentally frozen in time. im not totally clear on all aspects of it to be honest -- theres some things i might just be misunderstanding about it but, given that she seemed kid utenas age when she was first ‘cursed’ and also (much later?) when utena first met her also as a kid, but is 14 when utena is 14, its almost as if that first meeting ‘unfroze’ anthy in time - either that or kid utena was looking at an outdated apparition of anthy (which i dont know really know. how i feel about). in any sense i agree ohtori is definitely its own weird time bubble due to. well, the trauma and the inability to let go of a romanticized past
