Second day of Ace Week and second of my ace favs from fiction podcasts:
Zolf Smith - Rusty Quill Gaming
About textual representation we have Ben Meredith’s (actor playing Zolf) statement at the beginning of episode 176 saying Zolf is canonically biromantic gray-asexual and sadly that part when this was said during earlier episode was cut out by mistake. I love extremely that he cared so much about this that actually went and recorded it because he wanted all listeners to knew it. So even if we don’t have it said during episode it’s still cool as hell in my opinion.
Zolf as ace representation has a special place in my heart because of the fact that he is in queer platonic relationship with Wilde. They are one of the most amazing and deep relation in RQG. They are literally life partners. They have genuine respect towards each other. They understand each other. They are best friends. They care about each other so much. They went on Roman holiday together. They spent life together. Probably partially by accident Alex (playing Wilde) and Ben created such an amazing queer platonic relationship, it feels so true and genuine and deep. I want what they have, sir (without dying and everything but yeah pls).
And also I can’t forget the fact that Zolf enjoys reading bad romance novels and writing explicit fan fiction and that is one of the most true ace representation I have ever seen.
Happy Ace Week to all my fellow ace fanfic readers and writers!

Relistening to RQG and in episode 34, when they're talking about their plans to visit Prague and Cairo and when Svalbard, Sasha says something about going on an "air ship through a storm" and how amazing it will be
And I suddenly remembered that there was a storm while they were on the air ship to Svalbard and what the consequences of that storm were and how Sasha wasn't there to see it.

My #1 post of 2022
Really feeling my ace-ness
Family all talking about bake off and saying how they don't think there's many "attractive" contestants this year and how some of them don't really wanna watch not attractive people bake
And I genuinely have 0 thoughts about any of the contestants looks
Is this something allos do? Decide if you wanna watch something purely based on the look of the contestants? Cause I usually decide based on personality and how people act/behave?

Spoilers for RQG 218
Having listened to the episode a few times and sat with it, I wanted to write down some thoughts about the end of RQG.
I liked the ending and how it connected back to a lot of stuff throughout the story. But I’m not sure I liked the introduction of another super hive mind? I think I would have rather them found the Tree and had to figure out what was going on and chosen destroy or leave it be? I’m not a huge fan of trying to talk to a being that can’t give straight answers because it’s beyond mortal comprehension, etc. Very on Zolf’s side there.
I’m fine with magic being gone. Based on the way magic and the planes were described as functioning before, it makes total sense. I also am fine that the characters didn’t realize that would happen because even if they managed to get that from Myriad, would that have changed their choice? It seems like the Tree/Myriad was a force in the universe that connected things but was corrupted or evolved into something else? So hopefully it’ll reset and the planes will reconnect and magic will come back. It’s a matter of how long that takes.
The shift from the fight to Myriad’s place was also jarring. I think it works, but overall, I would have preferred them to just finish the fight and then Babbage could have shifted them to the Tree. They were doing pretty well all things considered. I guess Babbage got exploded and that’s what sent Zolf there? What was Alex having Wilde do to help? What was that?
We did get a lot of nice character interaction too: Cel talking to Myriad, Zolf refusing to talk to Myriad, and Hamid accepting that taking a chance on becoming a powerful being wasn’t a good idea, etc. I appreciate that. (Let’s be honest though, one of them taking Myriad’s place would have been super interesting even if the outcome was the same).
And now they get to build something new. Maybe with magic, maybe without. These are characters that are strong enough to be who they are without magic.
I can live without all of the answers (that’s how things shake out in an RPG), but I’d love to get some more lore through metacasts or Q&As. I’m also really looking forward to all of the epilogues! I hope they’re coming out starting next week and we don’t have to wait until Jan due to a holiday special, but there isn’t any information out about that yet :/
Anyway, end babbling. Reply with your thoughts if you like?

Your rqg art means so much to me, your designs are incredible and I’m so happy you’re a part of this fandom!
If you had to pick, do you have a favorite moment/scene from each season or arc that you’d be willing to share?
Thank you so much my friend :’) I love seeing your art on my dash and sharing this fandom with you!
My list of favorite scenes is going to have a very noticeable bias but I feel like it is not a secret who my favorite is at this point SO:
London - episode 25 for No Particular Reason
Dover - JENNIFER, NO (also dinner with Barnes)
Paris - too many, Paris is my favorite early arc. Standouts are the scene where Zolf wakes up in the tube in the mr ceiling lair (scariest moment of a podcast including all of magnus), the zoscar water dunking scene (!!!!!!!!), and the entire escape sequence
Airship 1.0 - Sasha meeting Campbell and chilling with Earhart, Sasha is so good :’)
Prague - bertie’s death scene (not being mean I PROMISE I just think it was super cinematic and well done)
Cairo - Howard carter full stop
Damascus - fully obsessed with every Wilde scene in this arc tbh but particularly his pun war with Sasha. Precious. We could have had it aaaaaallllll
Rome: Einstein’s moment with azu is so sweet, I love their little friendship. Also Ed!!!
AR - just knowing Sasha got a satisfying and peaceful ending was enough :(
Japan - the ‘Zolf is back’ reveal, “they don’t like me when I’m warm”, Zolf stealing Wilde’s sake, meeting the kobolds, zolf’s angry cooking, the reveal of Barnes and carter as the b team, azu and Zolf with Earhart
Airship 2.0 - all of it. Perfect arc give me 100 more eps. But The Lapel Pull is important to me
Northern Wastes - 174 because I love pain and 177 because I love pain and healing and 179 because I transcended my physical form
Garden - RIP TO THE ROPE I’LL NEVER FORGET YOU (also Wilde angy singing)
London 2.0 - group hug :’)
Svalbard - skraak and cel wanting to see the cool tourist stuff and Zolf promising that they could come back on a trip after the world was fixed. Zolf’s love language is promising people holidays once the apocalypse is over
London 3.0 - gay Shakespeare robes, 207-208, meeting Chaucer, and most recently 217 (That Part)

In Case You Don't Live Forever (I've waited way too long to say)
I’ve finally published my angsty RQG episode 174 role reversal fic as a holiday exchange gift for @emkathmah as part of the wonderful holiday exchange run by @podcraft (shout out to the mods, who are just the absolute best). I’m very happy with it and I hope my recipient enjoys!

HOW ABOUT THAT NEW EPISODE GUYS! 😭😭😭💖
Our Zoscar rights are thriving! I just had to draw this moment! I’m always weak for a ship containing a grump and a smug bastard 😂💖
[ID: A black and white digital fan art of Zolf and Wilde from RQG, a half body profile shot. Zolf is a dwarf with short spiky hair with a full beard, adorned with a braid down the middle and a metal cuff with a gem at the end. He is frowning and looking slightly upwards, while gripping at the lapels of Wilde’s fluffy fur coat, pulling him down. Zolf is wearing a simple henley looking shirt and a coat with fur trim. Wilde is a human with neck length wavy hair. He is smiling and looking fondly downwards towards Zolf, as both of their foreheads are touching. They are both slightly blushing. There are also 2 dialogues. Wilde is saying «Zolf, I won’t come back with you unless you tell me where we’re going on holiday.» There is a smug smiling emoji next to his words. Zolf responds «You’re such a dick. Come on.» There’s an angry face emoji next to his words. End ID.]

rqg asks! how about 5, 9, 11, 20?
5. Pick a character and make a prediction for their epilogue.
Okay, I don’t know what’s happening to Zolf, my sweet, sweet boy, after that last episode, but the fact that Alex made Wilde go make cute with him makes me very confident that Alex hadn’t forgotten about their lil holiday plans. I don’t whether it will be actual holiday (bless Dubrach and fingers crossed), an afterlife “holiday”, or a really mournful solo boat trip on which he thinks about Zolf and feels as heartbroken as we will, but I am quite confident that will will Go Somewhere. (Tho depending on what happens in this episode and what they’ve planned for future content, this may be a future episode).
9. Which was your favourite arc and why?
100% Paris. Imo, the only downside to Paris is that Bertie’s there instead of Azu. I love the themes, I love Mr Ceiling as a “villain”, I love mind manipulation as a trope, I love the fake out boss battle. I love the emotional rollercoasters every character goes through. I love that I know what all the landmarks look like without having to google it, lol. The balance of emotion and action is perfect. I’ve listened through RQG 3 times, and with the length of it I can’t see myself ever doing that again, but I can definitely see myself listening through the Paris arc again some time. Ah, sweet nostalgia.
11. Which raw-ass line will stick in your mind for years to come?
I put this in hoping other people were good at remembering quotes, oof, but honestly what really sticks with me is Zolf’s lack of raw-ass line when he leaves Sasha and Hamid. At that point Bertie hadn’t died and Rome wasn’t even on the horizon, I don’t think Ben as a player had any reason to believe Sasha (and or Hamid) would die before he could make Zolf say goodbye. He was probably thinking Zolf would show up in the epilogue having done some behind the scenes shit. And this reflects in Zolf words and mannerisms in this scene in such an interesting way, because none of the players recognising the gravity of the moment is somehow SO in character. So he just says 'see you later’. And that’s it. And it kinda haunts me.
20. I’m a firm believer that everyone takes at least a little piece of every piece of media they consume away with them, to become a part of their lifestyle, or moral code, or even a part of themself. What will you take from Erasing the Line?
Well, first off: Sasha’s fanon (kinda canon) haircut. I had it for 3 months before I decided being Gable Skyjacks would be cooler.
But, on a more serious note, it’s shown me many things I love about story telling. The Ben-and-Lydia’s-mutual-respect-based-on-skill-and-emotional-intelligence-or-lack-thereof-between-PCs is something that feels so much less manufactured when created by two friends manipulating their little imaginary people, and now that I’ve seen those dynamics work I want to seek them out again, and recreate them in my own work.
There’s also something about Zolf’s tenacity, that forward-motion through everything, especially in his, shall we say, second act that I really enjoy. Something about moving forward not just because you have to, but because you genuinely believe there’s something better out there. I want that.
Tysm for the ask!!!

I know a lot of people want to get into RQG but find it intimidating/the opening boring or want to enjoy it’s content because they like RQ but aren’t big fans of TTRPGS so here’s a reminder that they also do 2-4 episode specials in addition to their main campaign! These are usually more funny than plot and pull in people from all parts of RQ so here’s a list of a few of my favourites if anyone wants to try them out (And if you like it, maybe listen to the main campaign?)
Honey Heist (December 2018) - Two episodes  The first special I listened to! It’s entirely comedy so no need to keep track of a plot. It features Helen Gould and Bryn Monroe, who you won’t know if you haven’t listened to RQG before, as well as Ben and Alex. They play the rules light Grant Howitt game Honey Heist in which you, a team of literal bears, attempt to infiltrate Honey Con 2018.
Fiasco Holiday Special 2017 - Two episodes
The first half made me cry laughing and the second half made me. Well. Just cry. Like the ending is incredibly sad please read the TWs but it’s so good? Features Alex, Ben, Lydia, Anil and Bryn playing a game of Fiasco and without spoiling too much it involves ice skating, a jouranlistic feud, attempting to win your ex back via ice skating, the HR manager from your nightmares, and excessive reference to “Yuri on Ice” because it was 2017 and it was gay ice skating special of course there was.
Monster of the Week - Three episodes + A setup
This one has some actual serious plot to it! Ben DMs a game of Monster of the Week (Like from TAZ:A) for Helen, Alex and Sasha Sienna. It’s also quite sad in the end but just generally really excellent. Helen and Sasha play girlfriends, though only one of them is aware of this because she’s a ghost and the other thinks she’s dead. Alex plays the non-binary child whos stolen car they’re riding around the 80′s English countryside in.
Space Pals - Two episodes
Alex, Helen, Lydia, Ben and Tim Meredith play Space Pals, a DMless, diceless improv set on a space ship. It has no real plot it’s really just incredibly funny chaos and it’s one to jump in to if you’re a Stellar Firma fan because Ben and Tim continue to be Like That
There’s also another two specials (Deadlands and Duskhollow PD) posted to the TMA feed which I assume people have listened to but are also delightful if you haven’t (Both features Jonny and Alex, I think the first one has Ben, Bryn and James Ross, and the second has Sasha, Frank Voss and Lowri Ann Davis)
This is by no means All The Specials it’s just my favourites and ones I think people just jumping in might enjoy!

Hi there! For the RQG questions game, I rolled you 9, 12, and 19. Have fun!
9: so incredibly fond of damascus! love jovial times and break ins!!
12: i do bloody love ep 26, i think i usually keep 103 on hand tho!
19: again a long one! i started listening to rqg in summer 2020, and i found the prologue quite hard to get through, but i remember i’d wake up in the morning, put on an episode and then go and make breakfast, and while it’s Just outside the prologue, my favourite memory of that time is when i woke up, had an intense urge to listen to the horrible histories song about dick turpin, then stuck on stand and deliver for twenty minutes, got pit of bed and started playing ep 19 and they IMMEDIATELY make an adam and the ants joke and i was like. ah. wonderful podcast! i also remember being so confused over people’s voices, all of the numbers side and listening while sat by the pond! i think the best part of my first listen was when i went to a small holiday house in the middle of nowhere by a beach and listened to episodes all day and did jigsaws, it’s also when i drew my first piece of fanart!

rqg really heard me appreciating how luxurious it feels to get episodes every week (after specials, a run of only five episodes, and then more holiday specials) and gave me more specials instead of my highly-anticipated second week in the garden of yerlik huh

hi yes ive been thinking of starting rqg but the issue is that im behind on so many podcasts already and my to-listen list for podcasts is 31 long already. on the other hand, the intro music is pure serotonin. i might just listen to one shots while i catch up on other shows? do you have any recommendations for one-shots?
thats fair! rqg does have. a Lot of episodes asdkjf, altho there are recaps at the end of every season. i will say that ive only listened to the oneshots once so i dont Super remember them, but some of my favorites were 4thought, Jason Statham’s Big Vacation, and the Fiasco Holiday Special. Everyone feel free to chime in with your reccommendations though!

Listen, even if you're not sold on the main RQG storyline, do it for the one-shots. Highlights of their last Holiday special include (but are most certainly not limited to):
Ben Meredith doing a flawless Yogi Bear impression
Bryn Monroe's "bear voice", which I can only describe as a vaguely Texan Mickey Mouse
20 minutes of each 45-minute episode devoted to bear and bear-related puns
"It's okay guys, we don't have a health bar so we're mechanically bulletproof."
Ben Meredith (again) pretending to be a bear pretending to be a person pretending to be an ice cream salesman
The Immense Chaos Energy that Alex Newell usually brings as a player is now distributed between the others since he's the DM

Look, I understand and conceptually agree with the decision to release the RQG finale for everyone on the first and not to so the day early Patreon release like they usually do. However, that means I'll have to wait eight days between the penultimate episode and the finale and it's hard enough just waiting a week between episodes.
...also I assume the holiday episodes will come out before we get the epilogue or any other post story content, and while I generally enjoy the side games I imagine I will mostly be impatient. ^^"
