It's that time of year again! My garlic chives are blossoming so I gathered them up. Washed them thoroughly. Ran them through the salad spinner so that I didn't water down my vinegar. Mashed them unceremoniously into a mason jar and covered them with white distilled vinegar. Then I let it set for at least 24 hours and it turns the most gorgeous color. The smell is fantastic, but it tastes even better. This vinegar is a real treat on a fresh salad, especially one that I have grown myself. I planted six different varieties of lettuce this year. Which is something I never thought I would say ever because I used to be of the opinion that lettuce was useless. The equivalent of cheap filler. But that's because I had only ever had commercially grown lettuce, and it wasn't the best. Then I grew lettuce myself one year and completely changed my own mind. It's amazing how much better things taste when they are freshly harvested. So I will be saving this wonderful vinegar for my lettuce and I will enjoy it thoroughly. Happy Thursday my friends. Rural PA LGBTQ&A with West Branch Pride Organizers in Williamsport, Lycoming County https://buff.ly/32WHv41⠀ ⠀ After our recent driving trip through the PA Wilds communities, I was impressed that after an almost complete lack of queer visibility, a slew of new LGBTQ projects unfolded in my feed – a Pride event in Elk County, a Pride parade in Altoona, the election of an openly gay borough council member in Indiana borough, and the emergence of an organized LGBTQ community group near Williamsport, serving many of the communities we had just visited. One revelation just let to another. Hence, a new Q&A series.⠀ ⠀ This Q&A series is designed to keep that momentum going in terms of all of us learning about the significant work our neighbors are doing on the ground in our rural communities across the Commonwealth. We’ve reached out to folks in Erie, Elk, Altoona/Johnstown, Washington, Westmoreland, Beaver, and beyond to talk directly with community organizers. It was a gorgeous day in Pennsylvania. It was also a very productive day. I added two more solar panels to my setup and that maxes out what I can add without installing an additional inverter. Which eventually I will just not right now. With prices going up up up on everything lately I thought this would help a little bit. I also took the old wheels off my garden cart and put on new anti-flat tires because I got sick of having to inflate the old ones every single day. The new tires were definitely worth it to rid myself of that frustration everyday. There's a whole list of other things I got done today but I won't bore you with all that, also I'm just too tired to type it out. I'll be heading to bed tired, sore, and happy tonight.
