Maybe there's a good rewrite out there. If there is, I haven't seen it. Because I've had to walk through a bunch of people who say they're "fixing RWBY" and then throwing out basically everything that makes RWBY RWBY.
And "fixing rwby" is the biggest example of bad fanfiction I've seen.
Canonseeker? In my Ask Me Anything? OwO
Well, what makes "RWBY" RWBY?
I couldn't answer that because over the years, I've run to the conclusion that every version of RWBY is completely different to each individual who watches it. I mean, I'll try explaining why from my viewpoint, but it's because of that, that it won't be satisfying to everyone reading this post. I hope that makes sense.
Some people believe totally different things happened in the show (preferring headcanon or making up things that didn't happen), some people just like various aspects of the show (character design, weapons, fight choreography, visual aesthetic, etc.) while other people such as myself only view the show based on what literally appears on screen and comes out the speakers (focusing on the writing and how it contradicts what's shown on screen, or what's shown on screen contradicting the writing, plot holes, retcons, etc.).
I'd like to clarify that there's nothing wrong with thinking about the show differently, and all the power to you if you imagine scenarios that don't come up in the series proper. If that makes you happy and you find enjoyment in that, that's cool. That's your RWBY and nothing I say should detract from that happiness you've found.
But I have no idea what makes "RWBY" itself RWBY. It's certainly not the setting, which isn't unique. It's not the "each character has a unique superpower gimmick" (Semblances) which isn't unique either. It's not Dust (magic rocks), Maidens (magic), Salem (immortal bad guy), Ozpin (morally gray Isekai protagonist), Teams or Grimm (monster enemies) or anything else that comes up in the story.
Nothing story-wise in RWBY is unique to RWBY. It's because of RWBY's lack of uniqueness that I have trouble thinking about what makes "RWBY" RWBY.
(Please keep in mind that lack of uniqueness isn't a bad thing, what's more important is executing these ideas in a way that IS unique and builds story and character.)
You could take away most of these aspects of the story (maidens/magic, Salem/Ozpin, relics, etc.) and I'd still be unable to tell you the answer. RWBY itself has nothing that clearly, definitively, cements itself as "RWBY", except for one weapon design. That would be Crescent Rose. It's the most unique RWBY related thing. It's the most iconic and recognizable piece of RWBY, you can spot it on T-shirts or from cosplayers carrying it from a thousand feet away. Not even Weiss, Blake, or Yang's weapons come close to the level of fame that Crescent Rose's design has.
But what would happen if that was taken away? What does this story have going on for its characters and setting that makes it definitively "RWBY"?
I have no idea.
This is why you see so many various takes and concepts on RWBY. RWBY has such a prolific fanbase in spite of the main show lacking any core ideas or concepts that clearly embody "RWBY", so that's why you see many fans that churn out content, fanfiction, fanart all with their own interpretation of RWBY. Fanmade content dominates the original series. There's so much of it that without the people who are passionate enough to create these things RWBY would not have lasted as long as it has.
What's troubling is that I've seen Canonseeker here put down other people to push his own view of RWBY by trying to purchase his way into making Taiyang a more prominent character by flooding the fanbase with porn of Taiyang. He believes Taiyang is underutilized in RWBY and needs canon confirmation that Taiyang and Summer are a couple in spite of the writers having confirmed this for years now. This is hypocritical since he's doing the same thing he's complaining about fanmade projects doing, but far, FAR worse since he's doing so with the intent of trying to throw money at RT to change Canon RWBY to suit his own beliefs.
Which is why trying to claim or insist that doing something, anything, different from the main RWBY show makes it "not RWBY" is a ridiculous claim to make. When Canonseeker claims "Rewrites are throwing out basically everything that makes RWBY RWBY", I have to ask, "Well, define what "RWBY" is then." And what is the point of a rewrite if not to come up with different ideas? Does Seeker think a rewrite is to make a word-for-word copy of a show? Why even bother putting in the work to make a copy when RWBY proper already exists? It's redundant.
I would much rather spend my time animating or drawing something else than subject myself to "Canon RWBY". Instead, I'll be continuing environment drawings for FRWBY V6 onwards, and working on an original project that has nothing to do with RWBY which I've finally started storyboards for.
TL;DR: RWBY fans each have an individually unique viewpoint of RWBY, nothing makes "RWBY" RWBY except for Crescent Rose's design, and Canonseeker doesn't understand that fanmade content is allowed to be different from canon content.

so, ever since qrow’s semblance was revealed, I've been dying for some more spooky or detrimental semblances, and i had an idea for oscar’s. Since one of his core themes in v7 was conquering fear, i thought it would be rather ironic for him to have a semblance that directly causes it, because i like to hurt characters i like.
some other additional points I didn’t mention
-a small aesthetic thing, but when he’s not using it, his shadow can often look abnormally long and wispy.
-small outbursts of his semblance can often crack fragile things, such as glass.
-it’s directly tied to his emotions, so he doesn’t have great control over it.
-when he first discovered it, he opted not to tell the rest of the team, it freaked him out so much.
-the black thing is nicknamed ‘ozpin junior’ much to oz’s chagrin.
feel free to add on to this, idk

Canna Conway
“I always wanted to be a huntress but… is this really what I signed up for?” Canna grew up in a well off home and is rather timid. She uses her Scarlet Bell to push and pull foes away with its gravity dust. Her bell can also fire when rung. Her fairy tale is the bell by Hans Christian Andersen

Team RWBY vs team Uptown Funk (with mechs) who wins?
For those just joining the show, Team Uptown Funk is Shadow’s and my fanmade villain team of Roman Torchwick, Neo, Harley Quinn, and Archibald Snatcher.
And I think this is pretty squarely in Team Uptown Funk’s court.
See, the thing is, Roman gave Team RWBY a hard time when he was ALONE in a Paladin. Yang was able to destroy it when she’d taken enough hits to build her Semblance. However, the other three were hardly able to put a scratch on the thing. So let’s say Yang DOES get enough damage taken to be able to knock out one of the mechs. And, if Snatcher is in his canon ride and not a Paladin, it’s probably going to be his. It’s unlikely Yang could build up enough damage to take out a SECOND mech in the same battle, and while she’s bringing Snatcher down, the rest of her teammates are against Roman AND TWO OTHERS without her to back them up.
Let’s also not forget that Neo has yet to fairly lose a fight. She can dodge FOREVER. If we’re not on top of an airship with strong winds, the umbrella trick isn’t going to work, and Raven isn’t going to step in this time. She’ll incapacitate at least one of the remaining Ruby, Blake, and Weiss by herself, and whether or not she kills them has everything to do with how much she respects Harley’s input. (I’m guessing Harley has begged to at least take Yang in alive, and Ruby for Yang’s sake.) This means it is either Ruby and Blake, Ruby and Weiss, or Blake and Weiss against Roman in a Paladin AND Harley. And Roman in a Paladin can easily take the two on his own.
Harley, as we know, has all manner of tricks up her sleeve and has a lot to contribute as well. A one-on-one fight between her and one of the young huntresses might be a little more even, but not if she’s backing up the rest of her team.
The one hit Uptown Funk is reasonably going to take is, as mentioned, Snatcher. If he’s stripped of his mech, he has no way to fight going only on his canon skills, and by this point, we’ve been in a battle scenario so long that he can’t reasonably talk his way out of it (which is his big advantage on any team). There’s no way he can acquire a bargaining chip in time. Team RWBY could MAYBE turn around and use him as a hostage, but while Harley would probably be cool with “Back off and we’ll give you your red-hat diplomat back,” Roman and Neo would just want to cut the Gordian Knot and crush Team RWBY before they could lay a hand on him.

RWBY Theory: Why are the Grimm attracted to negative emotions?
It has certainly been a long time since I made a post here. Don’t worry, I didn’t lose interest. I actually have a life... And by that I meant I was hired to help my friend with a really awesome fan series she makes in RWBY Amino, which is called Foregone Fables after the fanmade UnderTale boss Foregone Kid, which in itself is named after the Unreal Tournament song Foregone Destruction. Either way, the series is amazing, I’ll leave a link to the first chapter here. The first chapter has a link to the second chapter, which has a link to the third chapter and so on.
So there’s that. Anyway, you already know what I think about superstitions in RWBY: they’re the same as superstitions in the real world. One of the superstitions my friend discussed and I didn’t, is mentioned more than once throughout the series: the claim that extraterrastrial beings, more commonly known as the Creatures of Grimm, are attracted to negative human emotions. Unlike most of the superstitions we’ve covered, this one isn’t entirely a superstition. It has some ground, although some of it IS false.
Before the real and fake evidence is presented, it is appropriate to note that there is a difference between sensing emotions and being attracted to them. The extraterrastrials have all sort of wacky psychic abilities, and being able to detect emotions might very well be one of them. This can explain the scene in volume 4 when the Horseman couldn’t see Jaune and Qrow when their emotions were blurred by Ren’s semblance; the poor critter was blind and only relied on its ESP to find prey. And don’t say all Grimm are like this, because they clearly have the ability to see inanimate objects even though they never feel anything. Makes me wonder who else is blind here...
Many people note that in the fall of Beacon, many Grimm were drawn into Beacon because of the fear and distrust caused by Cinder’s manipulation of the Vytal festival. One of the times the belief is mentioned in the series is when Raven and her tribe pillage villages, that are later attacked by Grimm. In both occasions the aforementioned attackers were people who themselves has an association with the Grimm - Cinder is an unjustly trusted ally of Salem, who was seen using a psionic artifact to summon a small Grimm. Raven uses the same portals as the one in Cinder’s glove, so there’s a reason to believe these had less to do with the fear and more with Salem and whoever Raven works with.
But there are still occasions that this doesn’t explain, one scene in particular. I’ve already seen people pointing out to how Roman Torchwick got eaten alive by a Griffon during his duel with Ruby, and right after he expressed a speech that was littered with anger and depression. Salem couldn’t save us this time, since the victim was an ally of Cinder and was more on Salem’s side than against her. This, and some flashbacks here and there, led me to believe that the belief that Grimm are attracted to negative emotions, isn’t entirely superstitious. But my job certainly doesn’t end here. The question that should be asked is, why?
In a lack of other arguments, many fans who believe in the huntsmen’s lies about Grimm being pure evil creatures of destruction, point out to this half-fact, not realizing it doesn’t actually explain the reason why Grimm are attracted to negative emotions (or why they’re evil). If anything, pure evil creatures should be attracted to positive emotions, wanting to extinguish them by killing the people that feel them and all this stuff. Some people say Grimm feed on these emotions, but if that was the case, the Grimm wouldn’t attack the source; they’d just stay there and absorb the emotional charge, and that would kinda just make them sentient stress relievers, which isn’t so bad when you think about it. With that established, I came to a conclusion that the reason for that behavior is something much more sinister and destructive than the Grimm: the humans.
As we already seen in the series, humans were enemies of the Grimm for thousands of years. In those thousands of years, the humans learned about the Grimm and developed weapons and magic against them, and the Grimm in turn evolved to be stronger, faster and tougher than this new challenger on the arena. But there’s something else evolution imprints in subjects, and that is instincts. We arrogant humans tend to see instincts as something childish and irrational that we should avoid and replace with actual thinking. But in nature, instincts are a powerful tool for survival. When we are in danger, we shouldn’t waste time thinking of what to do. We intuitively know, because our genes already did the thinking for us. And the same goes for the extraterrastrials. In ages of war against humankind, these beings learned to trace humans not only by smell or sound, but also by the sense of their fury, fear and frustration. They have adapted to track down humans by following the trail of anger, fear and resentment they feel towards the Grimm themselves. There instincts tell them that when there is anger in the air, there’s someone who feels anger and that person can and will attack you when they get the chance.
But hey, that’s just a theory.
AN ANIME THEORY!
Stay determined...
