I am very new to the world of BL fandom but are cp fan reactions always this extreme if the actors move on in their career and work with other people or is this week just a bad week with the massive BBB posters at Bible's event and the truck protesting outside of GMMTV about the Ohmnanon "breaking up". I know that popular actors get paired up for multiple projects but I assume they must change up couples and act with others as pairs every once in a while or after a few years?

hey friend, I'm going to answer this in a way that is circuitous that I think will better address your question.

the first part is: have fandoms always been volatile to the extent a segment of fans will organize to engage their ability to bully / cause harm rather than engage positively?

yes and no, in the sense this is a relatively new phenomenon in the entirety of organized fannish history (which let's just give due credit to our foremothers of fannish history the star trek fandom and their zines.)

but it's not so new because this started around 15 years ago, when people in fandom realise they could also organize to to create very targeted harm

these are the primary examples coming to mind:

Girls Generation (snsd) black ocean

Super Junior's official fanclub members organizing to buy company stock to prevent an 18 year old boy from joining the group lineup

In both these instances, tens of thousands of fans (for fantastics here) organized specifically to harm a person or group of people. the intent objective was specifically to harm.

the bad learned lesson from both these incidents (2008) is that fans can bind together to throw a fit if they don't get their way.

the second is: is it common for fans / fandoms of actor pairs to act this way?

and the more complex answer to that is, fandom is not a single conscious entity, and categorically similar fandoms often do not have a high overlap of active fans, usually at most 1-2 fandoms at a time. don't get me wrong, you'll see a lot of mileapo fans who are also bts fans, and I would bet you'll see a much smaller count of bts fans and exo fans overlap than you would see of bts fans and mileapo fans. any similarities you find in how fans between the first two groups act like one another is more the result of the categorical meta fan culture (here: kpop) rather than because the same people are perpetuating these behaviors while acting as fans of both these groups

for this reason I hesitate to call fandoms drama-mongering because these behaviors are perpetuated by individuals, or by a group of individuals, and not even necessarily by a group that represents the majority belief of the fandom. the fact of the matter is, people will participate in fandom regardless of if you like them or not, and some of there people are bullies or stalkers or overall terrible human beings. you can't make them stop engaging with your favorite actor or musician or couple because you can't control anyone but yourself. the only thing you can do is take the wind out of their sails by not engaging.

if you're wise to Ye Olde Harry Potter fandom lore, you'll know there was a specific segment. of fandom which known as highly dramatic but it wasn't because they liked a certain character or couple - it was because these individuals were drama mongering bullies to begin with, who continued that behavior in other fandoms. One of these infamous people bullied two different friends of mine in two different fandoms 6 years apart, and continues to instigate negativity in the fandoms they choose to engage in. you can't stop this person from joining a fandom... you can only limit their power by not engaging.

so the the answer to your specific question are all fandoms this dramatic? no, or they don't act in that way at least. MewGulf (TharnType) fans continued to invest in delusions by "I've connected the dots.jpeg" normal posts by both parties despite Mew's explicit rejection of their fantasies and his refusal to engage. However, they didn't have a problem with MG moving onto other acting projects without the other. Mew even worked with Tul of MaxTul/Manner of Death on a project but it wasn't BL. however, Max will be involved in the new mafia Thai BL releasing next year that's already been cast and as far as I can see, Tul isn't involved. I haven't heard of any grievances thus far from their fans but that doesn't mean there aren't any, and even if there are, I doubt the reaction would be organize to specifically harm Max's career / limit his opportunities.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, you have what Apolaris did in August, which was purposefully sabotaging Man Suang promo and embarrassing Apo in front of business partners and sponsors because they want the opposite: for Apo to stop working with Mile.

to circle back to the beginning: 1) it has nothing to do with the specific fandom topic, people can feel a sense of entitlement and desire to control regardless of who it is what behavior they want to happen and 2) a small group of people can disproportionately cause harm if they are organized enough and vindictive enough. that doesn't necessarily represent the majority fan view, but it can over time if their bullying behavior towards other fans drive the more reasonable people out of fandom , leaving only those who agree with theie toxic mindset.

do fandoms always have these people? in this day and age, almost inevitably, yes. and they are unfortunately also resilient to being bullied out of fandom themselves but plenty good at playing the victim. the best thing one can do is ignore their entitled, obnoxious behavior (private shit talking totally allowed)

realised im running out of time to submit something to the star trek swimsuit zine, so i started thinking about what klingon swimwear would look like to plan a drawing. realised there's very little mention of water-based activities (e.g. sailing, fishing) among klingons. went to memory alpha looking for information on the geography and water cycles of Qo'noS to try and determine how big or small a role they might play in klingon culture. found out that Qo'noS is actually known for its Cave Systems (autism activation phrase for me) and now here i am planning klingon versions of famous cave paintings, no closer to having anything for the swimsuit zine

Twenty Years After by Alexandre Dumas - I honestly found it even more gripping than book 1 - probably since I had no previous knowledge of the plot whatsoever. Still extremely funny. Being a single father did Athos some good. Also, Mordred Mordaunt was right, idc

Issues No. 7-8 of the Hellebore zine - still very much enjoying this publication! Issue No. 7 had a lot of fascinating information on (mostly British) folk dances and rituals, an interesting study of the development of the image of the May Queen (the bit on Tess of the d'Urbervilles which I posted earlier is from it), and introduced me to the songs of Angeline Morrison, while Issue No. 8 included articles on many subjects I’m interested in, from fairies to Dante Gabriel Rossetti and William Blake to Penda’s Fen to, strangely, rock music. Also, both issues had the prettiest art in all the issues I’ve read so far 

The King in Yellow by Robert W. Chambers - weirdest story collection ever (well, the genre isn't called weird fiction for nothing). The first story plunges you straight into dystopian alternative history which might not even be real bc of the narrator's unreliability, and then it's all cosmic horror except when it's sentimental and funny tales about art students and grisettes. One story is something of a poem in prose/stream of consciousness. One story is a sad and sweet time-travelling romance. I’m still processing it

Sailing by Carina’s Star by Katie Crabb - highly enjoyed the second installment in the trilogy that makes me feel like a kid reading Jules Verne and watching PotC for the first time <3 A more detailed review here.

+ progress on the Vulgate Cycle: finished The Story of Merlin and returned to Lancelot - Part IV read, Part V in progress. Plus I’ve started The Vicomte of Bragelonne: Ten Years Later, the last of the d'Artagnan Romances

Cruel Intentions (1999) - I'm only familiar with Dangerous Liaisons via the 1988 film, but judging by it, this is a very clever modernized adaptation. Loved that in this version, the victims of Merteuil and Valmont don't end up dead or miserable and get to enjoy their revenge

The Borgias (s1-3, 2011-2013) - a pleasure to watch something so well-done. The writing, the acting, the costumes - everything is top-notch. A pity it was cancelled, but what exists is still solid even without the last planned season

Shadow and Bone (s2, 2021-?) - I’ll just leave a link to the post in which I wrote about it before. Probably better not read it if you genuinely enjoyed this season

+ watching s2 Yellowjackets (impressions so far: aaaaa! AAAAAAAAAA), and started s2 of Carnival Row, but I’ve only watched one episode so far, so it’s hard to say anything yet

This is so hard!!!!!! A movie that was released this year but didn't play in theatres (but should have) that I adored and became a favourite of mine was All Quiet on the Western Front (2022)

🍬 Do you write for multiple fandoms? If yes, what is your favorite fic of yours for each fandom?

I do! God, picking favorites is like picking favorite children but I will try!

Les Mis: this is an extremely difficult choice given how many fics I've written for this fandom, but I THINK I have to go with Between the Soul and the Star? (This is obviously excluding the pirate trilogy that was once a Les Mis Pirate AU, as that is not on Ao3 anymore). It's a REAL tough choice between this and Les Hommes, but for now that's my choice. Ask me tomorrow and I could change my mind.

Star Wars: Shoulder the Sky, for sure! I've had fun with everything I've written for it so far, but this fic has been an adventure.

Phantom of the Opera: My girl Raoul/lesbian Raoul and bisexual Christine fic She Was Bound to Love You. I just!! Love this fic! And it's sequel is fun too.

Black Sails: written a couple for this fandom, but I think my fave is The Origin Point of Rage, which I wrote for the zine.

These are the fandoms where I've written multiple fics, I think? There are other fandoms I've written one thing for though, I am Unlimited hahaha.

I decided in this post, I am just going to discuss Gravity Falls fanzine ideas I had in mind, that I figured others might be interested in. (my next post will contain my aus and short descriptions of them) Second Summer- The title is pretty self explanatory. After the end of their 8th grade year, Mabel and Dipper return to Gravity Falls for another action packed summer, this time spending all of it with both Grunkles. From creatures they've already encountered, to ones they've never seen before, hanging out friends old and new (maybe some Dipcifica would be going on), going on a few high seas adventures with their uncles on the Stan O' War ll. So many possibilities! Crossovers- We all know how lots of cartoons have been making little crossover hints to being connected to GF, such as Star vs the Forces of Evil, The Owl House, Amphibia, Rick and Morty, Big City Greens, and if you squint really hard Phineas and Ferb, just to name a few 😁. And there are some crossovers that people have made on their own accord, like with Steven Universe and Over the Garden Wall. So, why not turn these crossovers into a reality with a zine and merch? Disney AUs- Now, I know there has already been the So Many Falls zine @gravityfallsauzine and artists/mods have made, but this one's a bit different. These aus would revolve around other Disney movies/shows, but in place of their original characters are the Gravity Falls characters. For example, The Beauty and the Beast au, The Owl Shack au, Crystal Falls/Crystal Pines au, Parent/Grunkle Trap au, etc. The Same Coin- A zine revolved around the Same Coin Theory, that Bill is Stan reincarnated. And after the events of Weirdmageddon and Bill (his evil self) being supposedly destroyed, Stan starts developing Bill's powers and remembering things that never took place, at least not in his life as Stanley Pines. So, this would pretty much be a zine filled of different artists' and writers' takes on the theory. (Could have it to where every artist/writer makes an art piece/comic or fic from different points in the theory in order. Like, when Stan firsts starts acting different, his inner turmoil, how he tries to protect his family from himself because he believes Bill is coming back, his and his family's acceptance of who he is NOW, etc) Brothers (couldn't think of a better name): A fanzine revolving around the Stan bros, from when they were younger to when they're older, following the lines of canon a bit, but stuff that wasn't shown in the show can be filled in by the fans. Such as the adventures and escapades they got into in their kid/teen years, times they thought about each other during their 40 years apart, treasure hunting and anomaly discoveries while sailing, their older age (way past canon). Hurt/Comfort- As the name implies, a bunch of art/comics and fics revolving around hurt and comfort between GF characters.
