In recognition of National Poetry Month, we invite each attendee to bring a treasured poem to share. The poem can be one you've written, or one that you treasure by an LGBTQIA writer. --- Real Queer America: LGBT Stories from Red States, by Samatha Allen --- Ten years ago, Samantha Allen was a suit-and-tie-wearing Mormon missionary. Mujeres de talla grande derribaron estereotipos en este concurso

Brasil- Bailando funk y bromeando las 30 mujeres de entre 19 y 41 años, de alrededor de 100 kilos de peso cada uno, esperaban su turno para desfilar en una pasarela especial montada en el concurso “Diosa Sexy Plus Size”, una feria que terminará el domingo en Rio de Janeiro.

El objetivo de este particular concurso es “valorizar la belleza y la autoestima de las mujeres de talla grande”, aseveró la organización del evento, Gisele Santos.

“Queremos mostrar que somos bonita, sensuales, sexys”, le comentó Thainá Morango, de 24 años, a la cadena de noticias Efe, quien fue la última en salir y que minutos antes reconoció que “es muy difícil ver hoy en día a alguien aceptando que las mujeres gordas nos veamos sensuales”.

“Mi meta es probarme a mí misma, que puedo ser bonita y sensual siendo gorda”, explicó la aspirante a reina de belleza antes de ofrecer un mensaje a todos aquellos con sobrepeso: “Cree en ti y en tu potencial, puedes con todo lo que te propongas”.

Vítores y aplausos entremezclados le dieron ánimos al concurso, el cual contó con una coreografía de todas las concursantes y dos desfiles por participante con diferentes vestidos.

Antes de empezar la competición, Glaucia Vieira y Samantha Ramos, de 32 (105 kilos) y 31 (96 kilos) años, respondieron espontáneamente y al unísono que ya habían conseguido un triunfo: “hay que decirle al mundo que todas podemos ser diosas”.

Vieira dijo que adora el concurso “muestra que todas las mujeres son diosas, que cada una de ellas tiene su patrón de belleza, sus diferencias, pero que todas nosotras somos diosas, somos mujeres”.

Samatha Ramos catalogó el concurso como “maravilloso” ya que “muestra la belleza femenina, principalmente la belleza de las mujeres de tallas grandes”.

“Es un concurso muy bueno que muestra que las mujeres de talla grande tienen garra, fuerza de voluntad y son igual que cualquier mujer”, indicó.

El jurado, compuesto por siete expertos en tallas grandes y en erótica, valoró la belleza, la sensualidad, la desenvoltura y la elegancia de las participantes, que fueron aclamadas constantemente por los más de 200 asistentes al evento.

Como habían comentado Vieira y Ramos, todas ya habían alcanzado la victoria por el hecho de participar y “dar normalidad a estar gordas“, aunque reconocían que harían lo posibles por llevarse la corona.
