ship grid very specific to us. yu hua+you zhengpng, you yu+chi nan, gu yan+yan suizhi, evil gods!!
OOH HOO HOO. rubs my hands together. and understand that i love all of them very dearly lol so ill just rank them relatively so its not all the same answer.
yu hua and you zhengping (mr. melancholy) - HMMMMM. out of the four they make the least sense. they in fact make No sense given their respective personalities and this is lampshaded in text lol. even zooming out to yu hua being as..... big and life-experienced a figure as he is, you zhengping is literally just some guy lol its [until the end] random that they met and connected. THIS MAKES THEM SOOOOOO FUN bc u knoooooooow they are choosing every step of the way to be together and keep their relationship strong and fulfilling for the other.
you yu and chi nan (crybaby) - THEY MAKE THE MOST SENSE ITS EVEN POSSIBLE TO MAKE. Fascination With The Other Who Is Also Literally You. even when you yu is disguised as the student and chi nan, being chi nan, has no particular emotion about the guy constantly hitting on him and being blatantly suspicious it Makes Sense with chi nan's character that he still ends up...attached? having gotten to know him and wanting his wellbeing (rip)? the same way you yu initially got attached to his only companion the painting and the same way they were interested in each other since their initial meeting. in every iteration they make sense bc they have compatible personalities and weird gay shit going on. no one literally no one is doing it like them
gu yan and yan suizhi (first-class lawyer) - theeeeeeeeey make such perfect sense in a very romance genre way which i mean as the highest compliment i can pay. they found a way to make me comfortable with and enjoy a teacher-student romance bc like gu yan i find it perfectly sensible to be obsessed with your teacher and know him by scent alone. they match each other perfectly in like. intellect and unorthodoxy and Subtle Annoying Trickery. in that they always know how to meet each other in what the other's doing. god i miss them so much. they invented flirting
evil gods (evil gods) - IM STILL LIKE. sub chapter 20 so still very much still setting up their life backstories and romance backstories but god theyre so funny lol. they dont make a lot of sense as a personality match on the gods level. they DEFINITELY dont make a lot of sense on the human persona level. but they do go very well together and i find their like. indulgent4bratty dynamic. both ways a little bit. so so fun to read. thrilled to see where it starts going with the. infinite flow mechanics introduced i think they will both wreak comedy of errors havoc on them lol.

Hi can you provide the link to read manhuas you prefer?
Hello Anon! OMG Manhua/Manhwa Rec! Here we go! I’ve only been reading for 2-3 months (consistently), so this will be pretty limited. I will link to the legit sites. A google search will direct you to others.
Most of these are WIPs and some, sadly, are discontinued. I won’t add TGCF or MDZS here cause those are already a given. 👇🏼
• Body Electric by Dong Ye ( completed, supernatural, lots of trigger warnings and plotty )
Tumblr media
Ba Song is the hotshot cop who’s been handed an open-and-shut case: the suicide of a young woman. Except… who commits suicide by stabbing their own body and strangling themself? There's only one man who can help him with this mystery — Bo Shan, the renowned forensic pathologist with a severe and cold personality. What's more, his body produces bioelectricity, allowing him to acutely sense bodily injury with his touch. There's an electric current between them, and each touch sizzles with energy
If you like crime dramas and stories where they solve mysterious cases then this is for you. The romance is subtle, and their relationship is not insta-love. strangers to colleagues to friends to lovers trope. This also discusses alot of issues the society has that will make you stop and think. Ba Song is really the honorable MC in here who always wants to help people and do good. While Bo Shan is the reluctant one but deep inside, he wants to make a difference too. I wish they would make a donghua or live action out of this.
• 30 year old by S-Monkey - ( ongoing, age difference, blind dates, slice of life)
Tumblr media
Charlie Wei is a single and handsome executive. He’s also a closeted gay guy who’s been on way too many bad blind dates with women. Charlie’s still hung up on his ex-boyfriend James and is… gasp, 30! Charlie’s family thinks he’s straight and too old to be without a wife! During another bad blind date, Charlie meets the flirty Ethan, who both annoys and intrigues him. Can Charlie finally come out and find true love with Ethan or will he continue on his streak of bad blind dates?
The cover looks melodramatic but it’s really not. This is so funny! I read this because people were saying it reminded them of BoXiao. And yes, there are moments here that remind me of them, but it’s more like an AU of BoXiao. I stayed up late trying to get caught up in the chapters and you won’t realize it cause it’s just that good. I love seeing the older MC loosening up and being more of himself. and the younger one being more responsible in his career. They just become better versions of themselves because of each other. It’s so sweet!
• I ship me and my Rival - by Pepa ( ongoing, comedy, reads like a meta )
Tumblr media
This follows the adventures of Wei Yanzi, a third-rate actor in the Chinese entertainment industry, stumbles onto a shipping fandom for himself and another actor (Gu Yiliang) while trying to escape from the flame wars and negativity. He's so taken with this group of fans who actually see him as a good guy instead of an enemy/rival of Gu Yiliang that he falls head-first into fandom and becomes actively involved in trying to provide shipping fuel and the fans' daily dose of fluff.
IF THERE IS ONE thing you will read here, let it be this. It is hilarious. If you are a CP fan you will relate so much and it’s a good time. It just shows how people who think are rivals can actually be really good friends in real life. What we see is not always what it seems. and people will interpret things based on their bias. The MC here is so dramatic! how his inner feelings/reactions were drawn will make you laugh.
• Path to You - by Sinran (completed, slice of life, age gap fluff and comedy )
Tumblr media
When almost college dropout Jensen attempts to drink away his problems, unemployed Nathaniel suddenly pukes on him and ruins his night. As an apology, Nathaniel offers to help Jensen with his studies. Despite Jensen's difficulties in getting along with people, the two become friends and something deeper begins to grow between them
The story is so soft. If you want something with mild angst/misunderstandings— then pick this. I love the progression of their relationship and how they take care of each other. There are other themes showed here other than the romance.
• Red Candy - by Hanse (completed season one with a cliffhanger, explicit scenes, assassins )
Tumblr media
Shihyeon, aka “Red Candy,” is a secret agent whose code name comes from bathing in the blood of his marks on dangerous missions. Shihyeon’s tasked with seducing and obtaining intel from Hajun, a hot college professor. Shihyeon can disarm enemies, but didn’t expect to be disarmed himself by Hajun’s own tight body. Now Shihyeon’s caught between loyalty to his spy agency and Hajun. Can Red Candy survive the incoming wave of enemies and still indulge in the sweet ecstasy of Hajun’s embrace?
THIS STRESSED ME OUT MAAAN. Wow. I loved this. That season one cliffhanger. It’s definitely up there as my favorite. If you think about it, the tropes are really not original. An assassin is sent to shadow a person and they develop a relationship. That simple. But NOOOOO! There are so many things going on. The Main mystery plot, Their relationship, their shared past plus you have other sketchy secondary characters. And did i mention explicit scenes? Lots of them. I want this two to have a happy ending!!!
• Lone Swan - by Chu Man (discontinued, cultivation, star crossed lovers)
Tumblr media
After losing his memory, Yiqiu Shen, a disciple from the decent sect meets a very special man named Luofeng Yan, who is the leader of the evil Divine Wind Cult. When escaping and conflicting with Yan, Shen gradually finds his original self as well as his previous love back. Together they rip off the facade of the martial world and reveal the hidden true
I didn’t want to add a discontinued story here, with no novel as a source material but this one made an impact on me. so. yeah. THE ART. breathtaking. The plot = layered. There are times I don’t even know who is telling the truth. It had so much potential and i hope it will get picked up again at some point. People rec this to those who enjoyed TGCF and MDZS, and they are right. 👍🏼
• Dragon in Distress by Si Wang Wen Hua - ( ongoing, dragons, past life, lost power, fantasy )
Tumblr media
This is a story about a little Eastern green dragon and a little Western black dragon playing together.
The synopsis is pretty simple if you look at it but this one is pretty interesting. and surprisingly funny. tinie AoAo is so cute! 🤍 the other MC has tsundere tendencies tho. Lots of lore and more truths to uncover as the story progresses. I’m not giving it enough justice with how i’m reccing it, but if you like dragons and fantasy — give this a go.
• Breaking through the clouds 2: Swallow the Sea - Huaishang (ongoing, based on a novel, crime, drama, cases)
Tumblr media
Wu Yu, a newcomer of the Public Security Bureau, is gentle and frail. He doesn’t care about the difficulties posed by Bu ZhongHua, his strict boss, and only wants to stay in the background to be paid on time with enough for food. However, no one knows that this young man’s head is targeted by top drug traffickers for a large bounty or that this courageous young man has once slaughtered the dragon of the abyss. With a chain of interlocking cases, a series of troubles come one after another. Can the two people work together to survive through the difficulties?
Do you see a pattern with me? lol. I like crime themes. This one is the same and by the looks of it, the cases they solve will take longer to unravel. I haven’t read the novel it’s based on yet so i’m just going with how the manhua is progressing. I like it when Wu Yu turns full on action-mode and when ZH takes care of him. Plus it helps that they are both gorgeous. I’ll get back this with a proper link.
• Where the Wind Stays - by Yusa (completed season one, curses, demons, possession, timeskip, explicit scenes)
Tumblr media
To break an ancient curse that plagues the royal bloodline, young Prince Tasara is destined to be sacrificed in death. Nara is enlisted as a palace servant to carry out the prince’s execution when the time comes. But he develops a soft spot for the cursed prince, and after committing an atrocious and unforgivable act against Tasara, Nara is desperate to right his wrongs. Soon, their lascivious relationship that had been kept under wraps tests his resolve. Will Nara be tempted away from his original mission? There’s no telling how far he would go to earn Tasara’s forgiveness.
This story broke my brain, in a good way. I don’t wanna say much cause it will spoil the story. It’s the type that you gave to see and suffer through yourself. I am excited for what happens in season II!!!
Honorable Mentions:
I’m placing these here cause I have only read a few chapters and tho I liked them, I wanna read more before reccing it in full. 👍🏼
• I accidentally saved the Jinghu’s enemy
• Global Examination
• Monster entertainment
• Demon Apartment
And that’s it! Hope enjoy Anon! 😊

Dig a Grave to Dig Out a Ghost - Chapter 17
Original Title: 挖坟挖出鬼
Genres: Drama, Horror, Mystery, Supernatural, Yaoi
This translation is based on multiple MTLs and my own limited knowledge of Chinese characters. If I have made any egregious mistakes, please let me know.
Chapter Index
Chapter 17 - Provocative
All the lights in the auditorium dimmed, and the large powerpoint projection on the screen let out a bright glow. If audience had been excited about Tang Yin's painting, then they were ecstatic with the next item, or maybe they were just in shock. The image on the screen was a Song Dynasty Ge-ware bamboo incense burner. The whole piece was coated in a light green glaze. The iconic Ge-ware-style sharp cracks and dark lines stretched over the body of the burner. Its slim shape was truly elegant.
PSP guy's eyes subconsciously lit up, and his slumped posture suddenly straightened. This was a very pricey item. If it was genuine, a seven-figure auction price would be a generous estimate.
Lin Yan couldn't help getting excited, but Xiao Yu seemed completely uninterested. He put his fingers on the top of his back and snuck them underneath his collar. He stroked his collarbone with cold fingertips and leaned over and hugged him. He kissed the side of his face unscrupulously. Lin Yan couldn't pull his hand away. He felt so anxious and angry, quietly thinking about what the two thousand people in the audience would think. He begged that no one in the audience could see the ghost behind him. If anyone could see him. . . even jumping into the Yellow River couldn't wash off his shame.
He wasn't sure why, but the intimacy of this clingy ghost happening now wasn't as disgusting as it was when the events started. Lin Yan blushed. He knew that this ghost’s temper, and that whenever he resisted, the torment would never end. However, the constant comfort could always calm him down. As the saying goes, "Whosoever understands current events is a great man." Lin Yan grabbed Xiao Yu's hand and tugged gently.
The cold hand touched his face, then dropped back to his shoulder and squeezed it lightly.
Professor File Folder pushed up his glasses. He took out a safe from under the desk, twisted the combination lock, and took out the bamboo incense burner that was in the photo with both hands and placed it on the mahogany desk frame. A white spotlight shone down on it, and you could hear a pin drop in the auditorium. The silence audience cast their gaze onto the piece on the desk. The fine light green porcelain was covered in sharp cracks, and the shape of it was simple but not amateur. The white light covered all corners of the burner, giving the eye-catching piece a frosty aura.
This was the charm of antiques. Life goes on. Time passes. The people have long since died but the artifacts will forever remain. They are passed down through generations of people with money holding strong and unmoved throughout the years.
This was definitely the final piece, Lin Yan thought. The professor motioned him and the PSP guy to come up and take a closer look. Lin Yan tilted the incense burner and looked closely at the bottom. Experts look at porcelain and examine the exposed portions before estimating its age. If there wasn't any issues, then the authenticity of the piece could be determined almost immediately. However, when the precious incense burner was turned over, Lin Yan couldn't help but let out a gasp. PSP guy was also taken aback. After pondering, his expression eventually revealed what he was thinking.
PSP guy's reaction convinced Lin Yan that today was definitely going to be a tie. Just as he was about to put the incense burner back, the glazed pattern suddenly caught his attention. Something seemed off, Lin Yan hesitated. He picked up the incense burner to check it again and frowned.
"Why are you so slow every time? Do you need someone to do it for you?" After the PSP man finished writing the answer, he took out a stick of gum and stuffed it into his mouth, chewing indifferently while looking at Lin Yan.
Lin Yan didn't bother paying attention to him. He was able to determine the age at a glance, and there was no problem with the glaze color and the crack patterns. This thing was almost a perfect fake of Song Dynasty Ge-ware. . . But it was being handled by the professor personally. . . It was almost impossible to make a guess.
"... What do you think?" Lin Yan asked for Xiao Yu's opinion softly. Xiao Yu didn't say anything, but the expression in his eyes seemed encouraging. He wasn't sure why, but being watched by those eyes, Lin Yan suddenly had a little bit of confidence in his guess and even changed what he was originally going to answer. Xiao Yu held his wrist and nodded very lightly.
So be it, Lin Yan thought.
"Students, please reveal your answers." The red jacket skirt girl announced.
The two whiteboards turned around at the same time. Each had the same answer again: fake.
Professor File Folder nodded approvingly, and said: "It looks like we have a playoff today. Both are correct. This is indeed a fake." He turned to face the PSP guy. "I won't explain it this time. Instead, this classmate will explain."
The PSP man took the mic, and the sound of chewing gum echoed through the loudspeaker. Lin Yan cringed. PSP guy didn't care at all, and said casually, "In the Ming Dynasty Chenghua period, there were lots of imitations of Song Dynasty kiln porcelains. It's in good condition and valued at 3 to 5 million yuan."
Lin Yan's brow furrowed even more.
Professor Folder was very satisfied. He doesn't even care about the bs that the PSP guy just spewed. He nodded and smiled: "That's right, these students can make these conclusions in such a short amount of time. They have good eyes. They both have a future in this field."
After speaking, he clapped his hands together, turned to the audience and said with vigour: "This is indeed not a Song Ge-ware incense burner, but a Ming imitation. There are very few imitations of Ge-ware works made during the Chenghua period of the Ming Dynasty left. This is only a representation of the Palace Museum, which has extremely high historical value. It's said that this school has excellent students. I didn't believe it before I saw it today. It was worth the trip, haha, definitely worth it."
"I have decided to make a special case for these two, and give each of them a prize."
Lin Yan looked at Xiao Yu hesitantly. The latter pushed his shoulders forward, as if urging him on. Lin Yan gritted his teeth, turned his head and said to the PSP man: "No, you're wrong."
The sound of chewing gum suddenly stopped, and the PSP guy stared at him. "Excuse me?"
Lin Yan took mic from the host and stuttered: "This-this is indeed an imitation, no one is arguing that, but it's modern. Even with the exquisite craftsmanship, it probably wouldn't sell for more than a 200 yuan decoration piece."
As soon as he fell silent, the audience was in an uproar, and some even leaned on the back of the chairs in front of them as if they were ashamed. The PSP guy snorted to express his disdain, and squinted at Lin Yan. "You're kidding, right? You can't see the obvious Ming Chenghua Ge-ware piece. I've been studying this for so many years." After that, he switched off his PSP and curled his lips: "It's time to go back class and educate yourself."
If it weren’t for Lin Yan’s calm composure, he would've rushed over and punched him. His anger of being humiliated in public made him clench his fists, but Xiao Yu must've known what he was thinking and held his shoulders with both hands to prevent him from acting on it.
There was a sneer across the auditorium. Someone called out for him to get off the stage. Lin Yan's heartbeat quickened. The building energy of the audience made him a little panicked. He looked at Professor File Folder like he wanted confirmation.
File Folder was embarrassed. To be honest, he personally identified this bamboo incense burner before it went into the Palace Museum exhibit. There was no debate about its authenticity. The purpose of bringing it to these events was not to re-appraise it, but only to serve as a typical example to teach students about the identification and collection of Ming imitations.
"It seems that this classmate is not very good at porcelain appreciation. Let me explain. When judging the age of porcelain artifacts, we must first look at the appearance of its base. This one has obvious characteristics of Ming Ge-ware, but it's an imitation of Song porcelain. Such things are called antiques in modern times, but at the time they were made, they were fakes. . ." File Folder gestured at Lin Yan that he could leave the stage. The corner of his mouth lifted, showing why young people should really take care of their skin.
Lin Yan was at a loss. He squeezed the armrest of the chair. He was so overwhelmed by File Folder's reputation as a leading porcelain expert that he didn't dare speak up. In all fairness, he didn't belong with a group of talented professionals. This time, he just happened to see a small contradiction and blatantly tried to argue with an expert. Lin Yan glanced at the darkened audience under the stage, and his stomach rolled.
A chill covered the back of his hand, another hand wrapping around his own. Xiao Yu stood beside him and tilted his head to look at him. There was no aggression, his eyes calm and serious. As if there was a steady stream of energy coming from the cold palms, Lin Yan felt funny. There were more than 2,000 pairs of eyes, yet only one ghost could see the truth. There were more than 2,000 living people, yet only one ghost was willing to listen to what he had to say. Xiao Yu's lips touched Lin Yan's cheek very lightly, motioning him to look at the incense burner in the center of the stage, and gently shook his head.
Under the dazzling spotlight, the fine porcelain's green glaze sparkled, and the cracked patterns were delicate and elegant. It was really beautiful. Lin Yan thought: The imitation was preserved because of its beauty, but the reality was left in the dark because of its cruel truth, turning into a coffin with decomposing bones.
"Go." Xiao Yu pressed his knees and said with great effort, ". . . Trust me."
Lin Yan took a deep breath, looked at Xiao Yu and nodded.
There was really only one way he could prove that this was really a modern fake. He walked around behind the square table and strode towards the piece on the stage. Before anyone had a chance to react, Lin Yan picked up the incense burner and smashed it on the ground without a second thought. There was a crisp sound. The million-dollar-priced treasure was broken into dozens of pieces and scattered on the ground. The PSP guy was stunned. The professor couldn't form a coherent sentence. The jeers from the audience stopped and the whole auditorium was silent.
Youth could be wild and energetic, but also incredibly stupid. Lin Yan stood stubbornly amidst the broken porcelain. Professor File Folder suddenly lost his composure. He leapt over and shoved Lin Yan's shoulder, his mouth opening and closing, unsure of what words to even say. The commotion from the audience grew louder and louder, as if being fueled by a storm.
Lin Yan broke away from the professor. He squatted down and picked up one of the shards off the floor, selecting a piece of the base of the incense burner. He pointed out the incline of the fracture, stuffed the shard into the professor's hands, and said softly but clearly: "It's a modern fake. It's a shame to put it in the Palace Museum."
File Folder let out a distressed noise, his face flushed. Anyone who really loves antiques knows that compared to the high price of an antique, the historical value it carries was a truly priceless treasure. Everyone was waiting to see the professor lose his mind. However, even though he was furious, he suddenly raised his head and looked at Lin Yan in disbelief, and then stared at the broken porcelain piece. His stubby fingers rubbed the porcelain piece back and forth. He trembled: " How. . . how could you tell?"
The professor spoke very quietly, but the mic on his collar picked it up, and the sentence echoed across the auditorium.
Hearing this question, PSP guy also picked up a piece of debris from the ground and looked at it over. When he raised his head again, the expression on his face looked like he had just eaten shit.
"Uh. . ." There were several things he wanted to say but they were all caught in his throat. Lin Yan has this problem. No matter what the situation, he never has any trouble when he speaks to a friend, but when he is alone in a large group arguing with others, he often freezes up because he lacked self-confidence.
Xiao Yu held Lin Yan, fingers tightly interlocked with his, standing side by side. His whole body was also cold like a piece of porcelain. After a while, he slowly calmed down, and cold lips gently tapped the side of Lin Yan's mouth.
He. . . was on his side. This thought made Lin Yan relax a little. After taking a few deep breaths to straighten out his thoughts, he explained: "Because of the temperature of the kiln, no matter how accurate the imitation of Ming Ge-ware porcelain is, there is still a slight difference in the direction of the cracks in the glaze of Ge-ware porcelain. The glazed surface of this incense burner has the characteristics of the Song Dynasty, but the exposed base has the characteristics of the Ming Dynasty. There is only one possibility for two eras of craftsmanship to appear on one piece; that is, contemporary counterfeit.” After finishing speaking, he added: “These kinds of frauds only started appearing within the past two years. I. . . I also took a gamble. I didn't think I'd be right."
The professor stared at him blankly, and hissed through his teeth: "You. . . you took a gamble? What if you were wrong? What if you made a mistake!" He tapped his feet twice, and finally gave up. He slapped the surface of the desk and said in a deep voice to the audience: "The students here are truly amazing."
After thirty seconds of silence, the audience burst into thunderous applause.
Lin Yan scratched his hair. He looked at Xiao Yu embarrassedly, and said softly, "We won."
He swore that this was the first time in his life that he has seen this ghost showing the expression of an ordinary person, looking very proud. Xiao Yu gently hugged him from behind, his long hair rubbing against his face. Lin Yan didn't avoid it. He was a little grateful for this ghost, even a little dependent on him. His palms were soaked in a cold sweat. Lin Yan gave Xiao Yu a sideways glance and rubbed his wet palms on his clothes.
Professor File Folder took a sip of water. He took out a pen and memo from his book bag, and looked at Lin Yan with interest: "Classmate, what's your name? Come to me when the lecture is over and I'll engrave it for you."
Lin Yan took two steps towards the professor and decided on what he wanted engraved.
"Xiao Yu. "Xiao" written as the character for "dejected", "Yu" written as the character for "sweet smelling"." Lin Yan explained. . .
The professor's smile dropped immediately, and his face changed in an instant.

Hello everyone
Since the Produce series is now in shambles, I still continue to be survival show trash and would like some other mutuals to join my crackhead addiction. If you haven’t heard of Youth with You, it is the Chinese version of Produce that uses similar formatting. The judges of the latest season—which this time has girls competing to form a 9-member girl group—include Ella Chen, Jony J, Cai Xukun, and Lisa of Blackpink. Not only are the mentors astounding, but the participants are incredibly talented starting out that nearly all of them deserve to debut. In fact i would say it rivals with or dare I say is better than the original Produce series. In addition to this the show invites girls of different styles, weights, backgrounds, and androgynous looks making the show a lot more diverse and fleshed out from the typical female idol look. If you guys haven’t started it and are interested in something a bit more fresh to quell the pain of losing the Korean Produce series, I would highly recommend watching it. For those who are all caught up, please let us fangirl together over these competitors. Down below are my current top 9 and brief reasoning for each.
NOTE: It was very hard to pick a top 9 and honestly i would still rearrange this later on because it’s still too early in the game. I have way too many favorites for this season T.T. That being said I have no particular order for these gals.
——————————————————————
1. Xiaotang Zhao
Tumblr media
The girl is hilarious so don’t let her resting bitch face fool you. She is so friendly and easygoing and I love her don’t-give-fuck attitude and because of that she’s so real and open to her thoughts regardless of backlash. She’s odd, but there is no doubt that she is talented. She’s been dancing since childhood and her skill shows on stage. Not to mention she is pretty good at rapping.
2. Yan Yu
Tumblr media
Another “cold” looking person. But listen I would risk it all for her. She is beautiful, her body is goals, she is actually a goofabll off stage, is really caring of her teammates, loves her family despite teasing them occasionally, and her vocals are P O W E R F U L. She has the most stunning expressions and the way she stares into your soul when she gets into stage character? *dies* Plus she has proven to adapt to any concept, be it serving that cold girl crush look or a more delicate cute style. I hope people begin to realize that later on in the season.
3. Babymonster An Qi
Tumblr media
This right here. This little pepper? She is fiery. She has incredible dance skills and charisma on stage. She is goofy and loves to eat a lot and nothing warms me more than seeing trainees/idols just eat well disregarding strict diets placed on them. She is also great at getting her teammates to familiarize and better their dance moves and has great leadership quality in that field. She is well prepared and knows what she wants and goes for it, and with that I know she will debut.
4. Frhanm Shangguan
Tumblr media
Ohohoho Frhanm Shangguan is indeed the W H O L E fucking package. Miss most competent girl of Youth with You Season 3. I still watch her audition clip religiously to this day. The girl can not only sing, rap, dance, and possess a stage like no other, but she redefines the idea of how female idols should look. She loves herself, from her weight to her hair to her overall confidence. She screams positivity, acceptance, and big sister energy. She believes all girls can do anything they put their mind too and she is such a hard worker and motivator for all girls in the season. I’m straight up calling it out right now that if she doesn’t get to the final lineup—preferably as the team leader— I’m going to yeet myself out the window. I feel like we’ve only scratched the surface of what this girl is capable of and I cannot wait to see her adapt to whatever is thrown at her.
5. Shaking (Xie Keying)
Tumblr media
Here is one of your rappers y’all. This girl is such a ball of fun energy and charisma. It amazes me she is considered one of the rookie rappers of the season. Her ability to ride the beat and change her vocal tone is great. Plus her expressions on stage are killer. She really shined in the rap group battle and rightfully so. She is so funny and knows how to get along and make other participants laugh. She also has some really good vocal skills and I can’t wait for her to showcase them more. And I also must agree with Cai and Ella. They were right in giving her an A , especially over Lil Jeta 🙄.
6. Xin Liu
Tumblr media
Another girl who redefines how a female idol should look! I love her androgynous look and I think it’s hilarious how vain she is when it comes to makeup. That aside I need to point out how her and others with this similar boyish look had the option of wearing shorts or a skirt and I’m glad she addressed it as it is part of her identity and makes her comfortable. This girl happens to be the theme song stage center and rightfully so! She can sing, rap, and is a killer dancer with popping her main forte. She exudes coolness and I know she will go far with her stage presence and hardworking attitude.
7. Kiki Xu
Tumblr media
Gah what a cutie. Another skilled dancer who definitely proved that when she battled with An and Frhanm in the auditions. I thought it was funny when she struggled with trying to look cool for the dance group battles but then absolutely killed it with this girl crush look that made me think “oh my god STEP ON ME”. Whew but like really she is a great performer, but I really wanna see more of her vocal skills. Good luck to Kiki and I hope she can show more sides of herself through the season!
8. Snow Kong
Tumblr media
See this queen? She is trying to learn to be more confident in herself and has shown how much she really adores the stage through her hardwork and tears. It’s been a while since she performed but she wishes to start new and give it her all. This girl is fun, loving, and has powerful vocals and rap skills. Plus her dancing is amazing. Just everything about her screams well-rounded idol material. She is a lovely visual and also gives me Sakura vibes. And don’t mess with her hair it will attack you the way she whips it like a maniac on stage. I also love her dynamic with others, especially Xiaotang and Esther Yu lol. Here’s hoping she will develop and astound us more through the later episodes.
9. NINEONE
Tumblr media
Nineone is, to me, a dark horse like Yu Yan. She is a professional rapper so naturally her rap skills are the best this season. She knows how to take charge and level with teammates. She is another type of person who has clear cut goals and gets them done. Funnily enough she also has this childish and shy side to her that may come off uncharactertic to her considering her swag and charisma on stage, but I think it is so real and fresh. The final lineup would need another strong rapper that know what she is doing, and after seeing her audition I think she also has some fantastic vocal skills that I’d love to see branch out later on if possible.
———————————————————————
HONORABLE MENTIONS: Zoe Wang, Sharon Wang, JU Chen, Yvonne Wang, Yu Zhang, Diamond, Lingzi, Jue Chen, K Lu, Duan Xiaowei, Flora Dai, Meddhi Fu, and omg literally too many all of these girls are too talented it would be easier to narrow it down to people I don’t want/don’t see debuting....
But I won’t pour that hot piping tea out just yet ☕️
———————————————————————
If y’all feel the same or just want to talk about the show hit me up because I need more people to rant/freak out with over these queens.

Every Day the Protagonist Wants to Capture Me - Review
I finished Every Day the Protagonist Wants to Capture Me during winter break and it took me a while to write a review for reasons.
Did I enjoy the novel? -   Well kinda. Would I recommend it? -   Not really. Would I like that others read it, so that I can talk to someone about it and gush over Xie Xi, Fu Chongyi, Wei Ciyin and Demon Lord Yan Heng? -   A huge YES!
But let's get in the details for a bit here... SPOILERS AHEAD!
The good:
Length - Happy it was relatively short; reasons in the bad.
Pace - The pace at the beginning was quite fast, which was nice for the fact that I really didn't want to read a book about a 13 year old child falling in love. I’m not big on teenager love stories. But ... see the bad.
Narration - point of view - I love how the inner monologue of Chu Yu is written, so that it could also be interpreted as the narrator voicing his own thoughts. I caught myself thinking “the narrator is funny” several times, before figuring out that this was actually Chu Yu thinking.
World - Not sure about this point. I would have probably liked the world if it were described better at times.
Fights - The fights were actually really fun to read. Very simple, yet entertaining.
Characters
Chu Yu our main guy - A simple soul that did not particularly receive a privileged treatment from mother nature when he was created; a moron I gladly adopted within seconds. We must be related I think. I love him. Why? Well, I can complain about cliches all I want, at the end I always end up liking the most cliche characters (Chu Yu) or the biggest or craziest villains. I loved the fact that he did pretty much gave up on his aloof act. I don’t think I would have liked reading about another unapproachable older and wiser figure transmigrator. BTW pretending to be dead to avoid the enemy could be a genius move from me, love you for that lil brother. It was also nice that he got the protagonist plot armor at some point.
Xie Xi our mains love - At the beginning he was “The Cutest™ with cheeks made for pinching” and later became “naughty flirting master say one word and I'm all yours”. No but honestly, at 16 he already had the flirting skills of an immortal master! It made me a little uncomfortable to be this into his flirting. Even if you don't give this book a chance, then at least read the wine incident (chapters 16 - 18). I'm still blushing thinking about it. I once wrote and am still standing by it:  "Xie Xi, you are not flirting with me and aren't even real and yet I’m blushing like crazy. How about you grow up a little and then come to reality and pay me a visit" And honestly he only got a) better at it and b) more blatant over the course of the novel.
For the rest ... Even though there were characters that did not get enough screen time or story, there were a few that I really really loved, like Wei Ciyin (a sensual lil bastard), Demon Lord Yan Heng (I mean wouldn’t you fall in love with a stunning demon lord whose laughter sounds like crows above a burial mound in the middle of the night?) and Fu Zhongyi (you beautiful creature, you and your lil adorable fox awwww). Worth mentioning:
007 System - My queen! (I decided it had to be a woman.) I loved that there was a comment function in this system. Although towards the end it wasn't used as much and in general it could have been used more effectively in my opinion. Nevertheless, a nice touch.
Chu Sheng - If you think Chu Yu is dumb, well then just wait til you get to know his overprotective brother. He would even win an idiot competition against me, which should tell you all you need to know. Love him nonetheless. Also he deserved better! To have to do the things he had to, is really devastating! I am a proud member of the “protect Chu Sheng squad” and will forever love the fact that Fu Zhongyi exists!
Insects (would you count them as characters?) - You know what, I have no issue with insects in general, but swarming insects are a thing I could gladly live without. There were a few chapters that gave me the creeps. I guess this would be called good writing, as it arouses emotions from the reader. It had the same effect as the face disease in Tian Guan Ci Fu on me. So a “negative” good I guess?
Couples
Main couple - First and most important Koala snuggling will never be a boring couple trademark. I was a little nervous that the beginning would drag and we would have to watch a 13 years old child falling in love with a grownup for too long. So I was glad they skipped that part soon. They got together quite fast after the skip, which was more of a negative thing for the overall story, but it also was kinda nice to read more on how they grew as a couple. For example how Chu Yu showed more and more love over time. So even though the story suffered it was kinda nice to follow this couple.
Other couple - Chu Sheng and  Fu Zhongyi were even a better couple in my opinion, but unfortunately we didn’t get enough of them.
Side-plots - A few side-plots were kinda nice I must say, but could have had more detail and better transitioning into the big plot.
The bad:
Writing style - The writing style, or maybe partially the translation (which I don't believe as they did a terrific job with SVSSS), is not my thing. Short sentences, with little to no flowing transitions in the writing. Many things don’t get describe at all, like the surrounding, the looks of characters or any background information about why certain things were happening. But it is quite an easy read, maybe exactly because it’s written this simply. Still it took me a little to get used to it and finish it.
Pace - The time jumps were, well how to describe it? Sudden, weirdly placed and paced and mostly never really effectively used for shock effects (even though the author surely had those intentions). There was this one jump where Chu Yu was talking with Wei Ciyins father (forgot his name) and then it just cut the scene to the future and it never got resolved satisfyingly. It should have been important, but when it was mentioned again later it was just ... well boring.
World - As written above, the world was not really described in detail, so I’m not sure about this point.
Characters
The novel had a decent amount of characters and should have been able to build their side stories properly, however, was not able to deliver many details for most of them. I think only for that reason I was kinda bored whenever Shizun Lu Qingan or what was his boyfriends name again appeared.
Chibi Chu Yu was fun, but stayed for far too long for my taste.
Xie Xi - At times he didn't seem very bright, which put me off somehow. After he got together with Chu Yu he lost most of his "screen time" and whenever he appeared it was just to ask for fish (papapa). To be honest the plot could have ended without him, as he had no importance in the second part of the novel, which was very mehh I mean why write a strong, charming, troubled and loving character and just make him this second grade s** obsessed fangirl annoying our main guy. Okay, yes, he did that to Song Jingyi and had one decent high grade fight, but this was not enough for my taste.
Wei Ciyin - I don’t know what it is about picturing Wei Ciyin with his devilishly beautiful face, dressed only in a snow-white inner robe, lying on top of a cluster of flowers while drinking wine, but that part got stuck in my head and I was so disappointed to find out, he was just an unimportant sort of villain canon fodder and had not much of an important story overall.
Villains in general - Well, what to say about the villains? They were strong, mystic, menacing and cruel, but somehow the whole novel felt like the author was not sure who the big bad boss was supposed to be and jumped from one canon fodder villain to another and "killed" off the supposedly strongest villain Demon Lord Yan Heng within 2 chapters. Why? He was amazing! Give me a whole novel about this character only, NOW! In the end there was a red string throughout the whole story, but it was not as good as it could have been, exactly due to the fact that the villains were so unconnected somehow. Well, I should probably mention Song Jingyi, who was a decent a-hole at least.
Couples
Main couple - Even though I was happy we got a time skip early in the story. The main couple got together waaaaaay too early for the story to be able to go on without a very intriguing plot, which the story unfortunately did not have.
Other couples - Even though it seems like a nice fan service, I think it is quite boring to give every character a love interest (reciprocated or not doesn’t matter). So some of them just were kinda meh in the end.
Plot - It felt like the novel was full of subplots. The big plot lost all its drive due to the way the novel was written. At the end of the book you can clearly see a red string throughout the whole story, but while reading it all just felt unconnected, like a collection of short stories. The mains couple love was the driving factor, but the fact that they got together in the first half (or was it even third) just killed the suspense totally and felt like those american shows that drag on for 8 seasons, when you would have loved it to stop at season 3.
But my biggest disappointment in this novel is not what you might think... It is actually this: Xie Xi was asking Chu Yu “let’s do it” like at least 100 times before their first time. So of course I was hoping that before they actually have their first time, Chu Yu asks Xie Xi the same thing in retour. That would have been perfect. At some point he said something like "are you not going to do it”, which was ok, but not THE THING!
Conclusion:
Lots of potential, but not the best. Still I liked it a little. I’d call it guilty pleasure, if for nothing else then at least for Xie Xi.

Note
I have been recently rewatching with you and can i just say I love your gifs. And I wonder if you know of any drama that has good boi™️ like yu huai lol. I tried watching other school dramas but it just don’t catch my eyes much.
Hi there! First off, sorry for the late reply. I actually had to sit down and write a list before I attempt to answer your question, which is why this q&a is only now being answered lol. If I recall correctly, I only did a couple of gifsets for With You, but still thank you for loving them ^^
And boy, a drama with good school boy like Yu Huai?? That kind of stumped me lol. The kind of male protagonist that’s good from beginning to end, not the kind that’s an asshole in the beginning only to be sweet to the female counter-part later when he “falls in love” with her, right? Or are you talking about good boy, in the sense that he’s studious? If it’s the latter, then there’s no problem with that because in these youth dramas all the male protagonists are some kind of geniuses lol. Even though I enjoy youth drama, I don’t know if I’ve seen enough to give you a good among to start off with. So here’s my attempt to give you some I’ve seen that you might like, and I will also give you some that I’ve heard good things about, but have yet to watch. And you did mentioned you’ve seen other school dramas, so some of these you might have already watched. Just a fyi ^^
I guess I’ll start off with one that’s closely related to With You in terms of: novelist, setting, and theme - My Huckleberry Friends. I believe this one is from the same author that wrote the With You novel, and the story is based in the same school and time, but the leads here are from a different class than Yu Huai and Geng Geng. I heard a lot of good things about this drama, and since you like With You so much, you might like this one too ^^.
My Mr. Mermaid, Tang Yi Bai, is honestly one of my favorite male protagonist. I don’t think I can find a sweeter guy than him in dramaland.
This one might be the most famous/well-known one, Love O2O, Xiao Nai. I mean he’s the perfect male protagonist. The End.
My most recent obsession, Put Your Head On My Shoulder, Gu Wei Yi. He’s that cute, nerdy weirdo that is also so sweet in his own unique way. He is love ♡. I can’t tell you how perfect but yet so imperfect he is hahaha. The imperfection is him TRYING to be better and prefect, which somehow makes him so much more charming and adorable.
Le Coup de Foudre, Yan Mo. This one is currently airing and I’m enjoying it a lot more than I would’ve thought. Yan Mo is an interesting character. He’s certainly a good studious individual being one of the top student in his class/grade. He seems cold and almost emotionless but he’s so funny in this stoic way. He’s in the weird category, but weird in a good and cute way lol.
A very underrated drama that I loved, Where the Lost Ones Go, Xiang Ze Yi. He’s that playful, nice guy type. Also quite romantic too. I mean he’s an artist so that’s a given lol. This drama however, goes from super fluffy and light to super dark and gloomy. Just prepare a box of tissue next to you.
Another one I’ve heard is good is When We Were Young. I can’t give you much info on this one since I haven’t seen it myself, but those who have seen it has mentioned good things about it. Male protagonist, from what I remember from the trailer seems to be a nice, out-going individual.
Suddenly This Summer is one that a lot of people talked about when it first aired. I don’t know the overall content of the drama but I remember the story is somewhat similar to With You.
A Love So Beautiful, Jiang Chen. Okay, Jiang Chen can be such a jerk at times but when he’s sweet, he’s really sweet. That’s why I’m including him here. He’s that character that you hate but love.
Salute to My Youth, Lan Tian Ye. I haven’t seen this one in full because there’s honestly no subs available out there :( But Lan Tian Ye is in the same category as Jiang Chen, maybe a little less hateful. One thing I like about him is that he’s quite manly. He knows what he wants and isn’t afraid to go after it. Also the second male lead is so sweet here, you might get major second lead syndrome.
Not sure if you’re looking for other countries content too, but here’s some extras that I think you might like.
Page Turner: This is a short mini drama (only three episodes). It was short but so good.
Reply 1997: The first drama of the very famous Reply series in Korea. The only one that I can say I like from beginning to end.
Sassy Go Go/Cheer Up: I personally don’t think Korean make good youth drama but this one is one that I really liked.
Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo: This one is a favorite among the international fans. I haven’t seen it, but people raves about it. It’s a campus love story where friends become lovers.
The U-Princes Series: This is a youth drama series from Thailand and they have some cute ones that you might like if you’re interested in trying out Thai drama.
From Me to You/Kimi ni Todoke: This is one of my all time favorite movies. Male protagonist, Shouta, is just the sweetest guy ever. Played by the Miura Haruma ♡ ♡ ♡ This is a movie but I think of Shouta when it comes to “good boy” hahaha.
Okay that’s it! At least that’s all I can think of off the top of my head. Of course, there are many many more out there that I have not yet heard or seen, so this is my own little list. I tried to stay within your given request of “good boy” male character in youth/school related drama, so hopefully you’ll find one of these to your liking.
P.S. I’m going to post this public if you don’t mind. If anyone else would like to add to this list please do.

Character Analysis: Xun You
Tumblr media
The true silent badass. No hate on Zhou Tai tho
Also there’s no Xun You gifs out there and every attempt at making my own just corrupts.
tbh my alternate caption was “like Xu Shu but actually good”
Appearance:
The classic strategist look with the cool robes and everything.  He looks simple, but that was the point. Xun You isn’t exactly the kind of person to care about his appearance (Have you seen his hair) and doesn’t care what others think about him either.  It’s comfortable to him and doesn’t draw any unnecessary attention.
Weapon:
It’s a whippy swordy thing. Same weapon as Chunhua and Fa Zheng, but unlike those two who ham their fighting up to the max with the cruel but cool looking shit, Xun You just smacks people and moves on.  It makes sense. Xun You isn’t a showy person, and he’s not exactly a combatant. He doesn’t want to spend the time to put flair into his moves, he just wants to get that shit over with.  I can respect that.
Personality:
Xun You’s main personality traits are his silent thoughtfulness and his insecurity.  He’s a pretty quiet person through his story (Which makes me a little sad because I like hearing my character talk, but it’s understandable) due to paranoia: After all, he got caught trying to assassinate Dong Zhuo, so he’s a bit paranoid about his plans being discovered, even if he’s not planning to murder Cao Cao any time soon.
As for the insecurity, part of it stems from his failure to kill Dong Zhuo, and part of it stems from the fact that others around him are just more ‘accomplished’, in his eyes.  They speak out more, Cao Cao listens to their counsel, they’re all a big group and Xun You is just,,, awkwardly there.  He’s trying, and everyone listens to him when he does speak, but he’s too unsure of himself to speak up at times. He feels overshadowed by his cousin(?) Xun Yu, and feels as if he can’t match up to Guo Jia.
What makes Xun You so great is that he develops.  He’s not insecure and uwu and sad all the time like a certain other strategist I know, he grows.  He learns to speak up, to say what he needs to say, to make friends (Especially with Jia Xu, they have a fantastic friendship) he makes his opinions heard and doesn’t want to repeat his failures, and at the end of his story, he works on stabilizing the government and overall making everything better, while also proceeding to poke fun at Jia Xu instead of being all stiff and uptight like he usually is.
Wow.  I just realized that few other characters in DW actually develop like this.  This game needs more Xun Yous and Liu Shans in terms of development.
Interactions with other characters:
Xun You talks to so many people and all of them have fantastic relationships.
His main interactions are with Xun Yu, Guo Jia, Jia Xu, and there’s some Cao Cao and Man Chong there too.  That’s why I like Wei so much. All the strategists are friends.  They feel as if there’s bonds, relationships, tension, happiness.  It’s so unlike, say, Shu, where Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei call each other brother but never actually talk to each other dammit.
Xun You spends a lot of time with his cousin.  They’re usually played as foils to one another. Xun Yu is the good-looking, charming guy that makes his voice heard and shares his opinions with Cao Cao readily, while Xun You is much more subdued.  However, this is played as a good family/friend relationship rather than some sort of unnecessary rivalry.  They get along and discuss their respective opinions respectfully, and I’m a sucker for good family relationships. (Even if they’re a little more distant than most of the other family units)
Xun You has a tendency to spill his insecurities to Guo Jia.  There’s literally an entire cutscene centered around how Xun You feels he isn’t quite good enough to follow in Guo Jia’s footsteps.  Watching it made me happy, but that’s cause I’m a sucker for character development.  Guo Jia seems to trust Xun You, and Xun You almost idolizes Guo Jia in turn.  It’s a nice teacher/student relationship, and yet it falls into the “close friendship” territory too, which is cool.
Jia Xu and Xun You are pretty much established to be best friends, and it’s fantastic.  Jia Xu is the more sly, joking type of strategist, a nice contrast to Xun You’s serious demeanor. Despite this, they get along fanatically, Jia Xu enjoying scaring/surprising his best friend, and I love it when characters speak outside of battle/strategy talk.  There’s also this funny bit in Xun You’s ending cutscene where he scares Jia Xu in retaliation and it was wonderful to see how their friendship had developed to the point where Xun You actually teases Jia Xu back. They discuss strategy and plans together, and they turn to each other when they have something to say. There’s also no animosity between them despite Jia Xu causing the death of Dian Wei: interpret that as positive or negative as you wish.
There’s also those moments during Chibi where Xun You describes his unease to Man Chong, and Xun You’s little pre-ending conversation where he talks to Cao Cao.  It’s clear he respects both of them and they respect his opinion too.
How this character could be improved:
This might just be me, but I totally wanted to play him throughout the Dong Zhuo regime. I wanted to see Xun You try to assassinate the jackass. But that would require a timeskip to account for him being in prison and Koei doesn’t do timeskip properly. (Otherwise I’d totally advocate for Cai Yan to also be playable through this time as Dong Zhuo’s unwilling strategist, and then timeskip her time with the Xiongnu since that’s not quite T appropriate)
In actuality, Xun You’s portrayal in 9 is everything I could want from a new character.  Good relationships, a solid role, likable personality, appearance, and weapon.  There’s really nothing wrong with Xun You, and I was kind of sad to see his story end.

The Best Action Movies of 2019 (So Far), Ranked
As a social product, the activity film is in a condition of motion. Toward one side of the range, you have colossal, globe-eating up open displays like Avengers: Endgame, the current year's greatest blockbuster and a certifiable popular culture marvel; on the opposite end, littler wrongdoing spine chillers and experience stories, when the thumping heart and soul of the class, have been consigned to moderately under-the-radar discharges on gushing stages and on-request benefits. Aside from the uncommon effective establishment like John Wick, it feels like the white collar class of activity film dom has been dug out.
Tumblr media
In any case, the present minute is an entrancing time to be a fanatic of motion pictures where autos explode and individuals kick each other in the throat. Like a year ago's rundown, the objective here is to keep a running rundown of the best activity titles of 2019 on the extra large screen and on gushing stages, which could mean superhuman legends, unknown dialect slugfests, and, almost certainly, in any event one motion picture featuring a previous expert wrestler. As the grizzled, tobacco-spitting squad pioneer in an activity film may state, we're recovering the pack together.
12. Polar
Discharged: January 25
Cast: Mads Mikkelsen, Vanessa Hudgens, Katheryn Winnick, Matt Lucas
Chief: Jonas Åkerlund (Lords of Chaos)
Why it merits viewing: superficially, this adjustment of a realistic novel about a globe-running hired gunman nicknamed Black Kaiser (Mikkelsen) resembles a John Wick clone, total with absurdist world-building and balletic weapon battling. Be that as it may, the genuine tone of motion picture, which pursues the Kaiser nearly his retirement from the homicide business, is hyper-dynamic and all around shabby. Rather than the adapted, make mixed drink facade of Wick, chief Jonas Åkerlund, who has coordinated music recordings for craftsmen like Madonna, Taylor Swift, and Maroon 5, seeks after the gaudy mayhem and shouting blandness of the Crank arrangement. Not the majority of the incitements are powerful - for instance, the opening scene with Johnny Knoxville getting killed mid-sensual caress will probably send queasy watchers back to the Netflix landing page - however Mikkelsen gives a moving, profound execution. Regardless of whether he's educating kids on the best way to gut a foe or avoiding slugs naked during a log-lodge attack, Mikkelsen keeps the film grounded, and, eventually, makes it worth viewing in spite of its imperfections.
11. Cold Pursuit
Discharged: February 8
Cast: Liam Neeson, Laura Dern, Emmy Rossum, Tom Bateman
Executive: Hans Petter Moland (In Order of Disappearance)
Why it merits watching: More of a dimly comedic wrongdoing adventure than a clear activity spine chiller in the form of Taken, this Colorado-set retribution story is revolved around a snowplow driver named Nels Coxman (Neeson) who executes street pharmacists and dumps their bodies in a cold waterway. He's determined to this fierce, cold way after the lamentable demise of his child Kyle, who endures a heroin overdose regardless of Nels' cases that Kyle was never "an addict." The different offenders Nels alienates, in addition to their heel partners and a couple neighborhood cops, occupy more screen time than you'd expect, giving the procedures a romping, shaggy-hound outfit vibe that can be an odd fit with Neeson's irate father schtick. (Neeson additionally made some stunning remarks during the film's press visit, which make some the content's rough endeavors at "restless" supremacist funniness feel especially confused.) Though the film's focal retribution plot can be repetitive, the edges of the story are loaded up with scraggly character on-screen characters like William Forsythe, some really smart bits of exchange, and a bunch of roused visual snapshots of eccentricity. Overlong and half-cooked, Cold Pursuit isn't in a similar alliance as The Commuter or Non-Stop, Neeson's ongoing joint efforts with executive Jaume Collet-Serra, however it has a comical quality that radiates through the heaps of snow.
10. Hauled Across Concrete
Discharged: March 22
Cast: Mel Gibson, Vince Vaughn, Tory Kittles, Michael Jai White
Executive: S. Craig Zahler (Brawl in Cell Block 99)
Why it merits viewing: The striking title of this proudly provocative, every so often cumbersome cop epic fills in as either an appreciated tangle or a notice sign contingent upon your resistance for hard-bubbled exchange, stunning brutality, and the screen nearness of disputable star Mel Gibson. Playing Officer Brett Ridgeman, Gibson brings a fatigued stillness and an injured pride to the job of a supremacist cop suspended for getting captured on video utilizing unnecessary power at work. Lashed for money and hoping to make one major score, Ridgeman and his more youthful accomplice Lurasetti (Vaughn) plan to take cash from a group of burglars, including a criminal (Kittles) just discharged from jail and hoping to improve life for his family. The set-up is natural, riffing on comparable heists you've seen in noir films and in wrongdoing books, however Zahler's arranging of the real groupings, similar to a delayed weapon fight close to the end, can be grasping and his composition, especially in the drawn-out stake-out scenes, can be satisfying to the ear. While Dragged Across Concrete does not have the punch of Brawl in Cell Block 99, his past (and a lot more grounded) joint effort with Vaughn, it's plainly crafted by a craftsman hoping to grow his extension and willing to test his group of spectators' understanding.
9. Domino
Discharged: May 31
Cast: Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Carice van Houten, Guy Pearce, Nicolas Bro
Executive: Brian De Palma (Mission: Impossible)
Why it merits looking at: Brian De Palma's desire for the bizarre the two drives and eventually crashes this captivating, irritating late-profession psychological oppression spine chiller, which arrived unceremoniously on VOD in the wake of being deferred for enigmatically vexed reasons and talked down in the press by the unbelievable executive himself. Round of Thrones star Coster-Waldau brings gleams of crafty appeal and loads of fatigued abdication to the job of Christian, a Copenhagen cop who gets enveloped with an as a matter of fact confounding global trap of untruths spun by a repulsive impact point of a CIA operator (Pearce). For the most part, Christian needs to retaliate for the demise of his accomplice, who was engaging in extramarital relations with another cop played by van Houten. As incoherent and wrong-head as the film can be, Domino merits searching out for a bunch of ridiculously organized, virtuosically shot anticipation successions, including a stunning homicide that prompts a housetop pursue and a dumbfounding set-piece including a bullfight and an automaton. (Much the same as in works of art like Blow Out and Femme Fatale, De Palma stays fixated on instinctive inquiries of viewpoint.) Even in its potentially traded off express, the film has more visual sparkle than the vast majority of the blockbusters moving off the sequential construction system this mid year.
8. Triple Frontier
Discharged: March 13
Cast: Ben Affleck, Oscar Isaac, Charlie Hunnam, Garrett Hedlund
Chief: J.C. Chandor (A Most Violent Year)
Why it merits viewing: Any film that moves you to tune in to Metallica's Ride the Lightning for seven days subsequent to seeing it is accomplishing something right. Notwithstanding opening up with "For Whom the Bell Tolls," this military heist spine chiller, which discovers Affleck driving a group of ex-Special Forces superstars determined to ransack a street pharmacist in the wilderness, hits all the vital activity film beats: There's a "recovering the posse together" scene, an "are you in or are you out?" arrangement, a "put the cash down we gotta go" minute, and, sure, a "good lord" helicopter crash in the mountains to demonstrate how a lot of cash Netflix was happy to dish out. So for what reason does the film feel disappointing? Triple Frontier began life as another strategies fixated Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal venture - one that about each popular male entertainer in Hollywood was supposed to star in sooner or later - yet it was in the long run taken over by Chandor, the helmer of the macho account dramatization Margin Call and the lethargic '70s wrongdoing riff A Most Violent Year, and he gives the material an incidentally unwieldy touch. Gotten between a ultra-tense Bigelow epic and a scrappier WWE Studios rush ride, the motion picture never entirely discovers its balance, especially in the subsequent half. All things considered, those Metallica tunes sound incredible
7. Ace Z: The Ip Man Legacy
Discharged: April 12
Cast: Max Zhang, Dave Bautista, Liu Yan, Xing Yu
Chief: Yuen Woo-ping (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny)
Why it merits viewing: There's a grouping in Master Z: The Ip Man Legacy, the most recent section in the enormously engaging arrangement of combative techniques films, where Michelle Yeoh, playing wrongdoing manager Tso Ngan Kwan, goes head to head against an assailant, and the entire motion picture gets a shock of power. Yeoh's part in the film is little, however scarcely inconsequential: She loans gravitas and kineticism to the procedures. The bigger story, which pursues skilled warrior Cheung Tin Chi (Zhang) as he opens a supermarket and endeavors to avoid inconvenience, is stuffed with comparative blasts of vitality, hand-to-hand battle scenes that make the watcher wheeze, chuckle, and cheer at the physical elegance and arranged accuracy in plain view. Despite the fact that it to a great extent relinquishes the motions towards real history that characterized the first Ip Man passages and doesn't include Donnie Yen, the aloof essence of the arrangement, Master Z has an appreciated comical inclination, a winsome tone, and a mustache-brandishing Dave Bautista wearing suits that battle to contain his monster outline. What more do you need?
5. Avengement
Discharged: May 24
Cast: Scott Adkins, Craig Fairbrass, Thomas Turgoose, Nick Moran
Executive: Jesse V. Johnson (The Debt Collector)
Why it merits looking at: DTV activity star Scott Adkins realizes how to arrive a punch, yet this sequentially broken battle film, which joins a grisly jail dramatization with a Guy Ritchie-esque black market plot, likewise gives the preposterously buff entertainer a chance to hotshot his acting slashes too. With a metal barbecue on his teeth and intense scars all over, Adkins plays the Biblically named Cain, a previous fighter turned convict who begins the motion picture by getting away from his security detail on an excursion to the medical clinic to visit his perishing mother. On the run, Cain winds up at a bar amidst the day, where he engages the gathered goons with his tangled biography, which includes a disloyalty by his more seasoned sibling and numerous exhausting prison fights. Johnson, a stand-in turned-movie producer who has coordinated Adkins highlights like Accident Man and Triple Threat, co-composed the refreshingly sharp content, which has more at the forefront of its thoughts than your normal battle driven retribution film, and he arranges the savage, exposed knuckle skirmishes with fitting life, permitting Adkins to give a standout amongst the best exhibitions of his vocation.
4. Alita: Battle Angel
Discharged: February 14
Cast: Rosa Salazar, Christoph Waltz, Keean Johnson, Mahershala Ali
Executive: Robert Rodriguez (Sin City)
Why it merits viewing: The primary thing you notice are the huge eyes, alluring like entryways to another measurement. Alita, a cyborg found in a junkyard by a conceivably crazy lab rat overwhelmed by distress over the demise of his little girl, is played by the on-screen character Rosa Salazar (Maze Runner, Bird Box), yet she's brought to uncanny life by means of innovation Alita maker and co-author James Cameron created for his outsider ecological creation Avatar. (Cameron was initially going to coordinate Alita, however he got diverted the universe of the Na'vi.) Compared to Avatar, or other late beautiful demonstrations of gonzo-world-building like Jupiter Ascending or Valerian: City of a Thousand Planets, Alita: Battle Angel moves in fits and begins, at times attempting to blend Cameron's hyper-sincere, massive reasonableness with Rodriguez's progressively showy, unexpected methodology. All things considered, when the motion picture interfaces, as in the ludicrous and dynamic "motorball" succession, which discovers Alita fighting off brutish aggressors in a savage, X-Games variant of tag, it's as elating as this sort of reality-changing, cash copying science fiction blockbuster gets. Maybe fitting for an anecdote about a character's confounded relationship to her very own body, the motion picture sets aside some effort to feel great in its very own CG ski
3. Shadow
Discharged: May 3
Cast: Deng Chao, Sun Li, Zheng Kai, Wang Qianyuan
Executive: Zhang Yimou (Hero)
Why it merits viewing: In a city shrouded in dim mists and assaulted by steady downpour, an umbrella can turn into your last line of resistance against the components. In Shadow, the most recent outwardly staggering activity epic from Hero and House of Flying Daggers wuxia ace Zhang Yimou, parasols are more than supportive sun-blockers: They can be transformed into fatal weapons, shooting boomerang-like cutting edges of steel at approaching aggressors and changing into defensive sleds for going through the smooth boulevards. These gadgets are one of numerous creative jumps made in telling this Shakespearean adventure of castle interest, retribution, and mystery doppelgangers set in China's Three Kingdoms period. Administrator Yu (Deng) serves helpless before the pitiless King Peiliang (Zheng), who guidelines like a trivial and touchy young person, yet the valiant Commander is really a "shadow," a body twofold enrolled to fill in as a potential substitution in a period of emergency. The "genuine" Commander Yu, additionally played by Deng, medical attendants a putrefying fight twisted underground, preparing his twofold and conspiring to oust the lord. This is a combative techniques epic where the thick plotting is as dubious as the regularly balletic battle scenes. The account loses steam in stretches, however the splendidly structured and faultlessly altered activity arrangements are essentially on another level. In the event that the fight scenes in Game of Thrones left you disappointed, Shadow gives an exciting option
2. The Standoff at Sparrow Creek
Discharged: January 18 Cast: James Badge Dale, Brian Geraghty, Patrick Fischler, Happy Anderson Executive: Henry Dunham
Why it merits viewing: The Standoff at Sparrow Creek is a motion picture that comprehends the estimation of restriction. After a mass taking shots at a police memorial service, a volunteer army bunch in Michigan collects at a distribution center to twofold check the status of their enormous store of lethal weapons, including a clump of AR-15s. Turns out one of the firearms is missing - the radio has affirmed that the shooter utilized an AR-15 - and just one of the men in the gathering could have gotten it. Rapidly, the Reservoir Dogs-like situation spirals out into an at the same time garrulous and grasping whodunit with James Badge Dale's abrupt ex-cop Gannon cross examining his kindred intrigue disapproved of partners, generally played by splendid character on-screen characters offered space to flex here, with an end goal to discover the executioner before the shooting can be stuck on the gathering all in all. In any case, can any of these shadowy figures be trusted? This isn't an anthropological investigation of conservative suspicion under Donald Trump or a treatise on white male wrath in the time of InfoWars - the careful points of interest of what all these folks accept and would like to accomplish with their impressive capability are kept unclear - however Dunham, making his component debut here, zeroes in on the characters and frames of mind of the men attracted to these periphery gatherings. He demonstrates to you what really matters to them. At that point, he makes them squirm.
1. John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum
Discharged: May 17
Cast: Keanu Reeves, Halle Berry, Laurence Fishburne, Mark Dacascos
Chief: Chad Stahelski (John Wick: Chapter 2)
Why it merits looking at: Whether he's pummeling an adversary in the face with a book in a library or evading stray projectiles while running down a Manhattan road on horseback, John Wick tries to avoid panicking. The dependably on-the-run professional killer, returning for the third passage in this shockingly flexible arrangement, indicates shortcoming, torment, and even powerlessness, however no weapon can cut the covering of stillness Reeves brings to the job, and his exhibition is the thing that makes these motion pictures so holding. The story is generally senseless - Wick has been pronounced "excommunicado" by the request of professional killers he used to have a place with and must search out old partners over the globe - however Reeves and his teammates, including arrangement chief Stahelski and the first rate trick group, never dismiss the center components that make Wick tick. Indeed, even as the folklore develops progressively confused, the cast extends to present amusingly named characters like The Adjudicator (Billions break-out Asia Kate Dillon) or The Director (Angelica Huston), and the battles become much increasingly detailed, Reeves glides through the movie. Regardless of whether a portion of the first's black market coarseness has been sparkled away, supplanted with scrape free comic-book extravagance and bourbon business feeling, the arrangement remains focused on straightforward joys. Nearby Tom Cruise's all the more apparently focused on Ethan Hunt, Wick remains the best activity saint Hollywood brings to the table.

I thought I might do an update post on my thoughts on the Rise of Phoenixes now that the action has slowed down a bit (I just finished ep 13).
- Again, I can’t help but compare this story to Nirvana in Fire. Nirvana in Fire’s story was pretty focused. MCS helped XJY get rid of the big political players and to raise XJY’s status, which would help them both get justice for their beloved deceased prince. Right from the beginning, MCS was focused on eliminating Xie Yu, then the Crown Prince, and then Yu Wang.
- In comparison TROP’s story is a little spread out right now.
- While Ning Yi is working on gaining control in the palace, he isn’t exactly doing anything right now. It looks like the Crown Prince is eliminating his two brothers whom he deems threats, and Ning Yi is just waiting for that to blow over so that afterwards he has fewer opponents to deal with. While that story line is fun to watch, it doesn’t tie back to Ning Yi so I don’t feel as invested.
- Feng Zhiwei is aimless right now. Ning Yi asked her to go back into the palace to switch out the wooden voodoo dolls and after that they’d have no debts owing to each other. Then afterwards, Feng Zhiwei was literally roaming with nowhere to go. Yes, she eventually ended up at Xin Ziyan’s school, but she doesn’t exactly have a specific goal in mind. She’s just looking for a place that will take her in. So unfortunately there’s not a lot going on for Feng Zhiwei.
- I got so caught up with Chen Kun and Ni Ni that I almost forgot that my boy Bai Jingting was in this show. He finally made an appearance as a mysterious bodyguard sent to protect Feng Zhiwei. Xin Ziyan and Ning Yi suspected that he might have been sent by Qiu Mingying. I actually haven’t watched Xiaobai act in anything else before. It looks like Gu Nanyi is pretty stoic and maybe more of a comedic character (playing the straight man to Feng Zhiwei’s more fiery character).
- In the past couple of episodes, the stuff relating to the previous Dacheng dynasty has receded to the background, which is probably why folks like Feng Zhiwei, Gu Yan, and Qiu Mingying have had less to do. I’m not sure if I like this, because this story is supposed to be both Ning Yi’s and Feng Zhiwei’s. That being said, it’s only been a few episodes so maybe I’m overreacting. In addition, I had previously predicted that Feng Zhiwei’s story line would take center stage later in the story, so I guess Ning Yi’s story line would then move to the background a bit.
- In the first handful of episodes, it was Ning Yi being the fun loving guy and Feng Zhiwei being all serious because she was the one whose life was on the line. First, she was worried about being married and then about her mother and brother being captured. At that point, Feng Zhiwei was super rattled but to Ning Yi, it wasn’t as big of a deal. In the past few episodes, the roles have reversed. Feng Zhiwei, now that she knows her family is safe and won’t be harmed (because her mother disowned Feng Zhiwei), she’s back to her reckless self. She was running errands and stuff for Zhao Wang. Why she decided to do that, I’m not 100% sure. In any case, Ning Yi was super not on board with Feng Zhiwei getting entangled in the princely conflict and got all mad at her whereas Feng Zhiwei wasn’t taking things too seriously. She understood the gravity (and it’s implied that she has her own reasons for doing so, probably related to her revenge), but she doesn’t take the political planning as seriously as Ning Yi does.
- Xin Ziyan is also turning into a bit of a comedic character, which.....I could do without. He can be funny without being the butt of the joke in my opinion.
- I was googling some stuff and I think Zhu yin’s identity is supposed to be important later on, which makes sense. Her parents were killed in the same incident that the third prince was implicated in. She was supposed to be the lady of an important family but was reduced to being a courtesan. I don’t think it’s “necessary” for Zhu yin to have an important secret identity; it makes perfect sense for her just to be a smart girl who wants to get revenge for her parents, and has means of gathering information to work with Chu Wang. But I think it’s cool too if she maybe has an unexpected connection, whether with the previous dynasty or with any of the major players.
- The costumes continue to amaze me, especially the clothes of the emperor and the princes. As I mentioned before, men’s clothes are simpler, so it’s easier to see the quality of the clothes, and I must say the princes’ clothes look so well-made. Like, it’s visible to me as the viewer the difference between the cloth used in the princes’ clothes vs. say, the cloth used in Wei Zhi’s clothes.
- As I said, the story’s slowed down (almost completely for Feng Zhiwei), so it’s not as tense right now. But that’s to be expected considering this show is 70 episodes.
