GO and Statue Significance
Anyone noticed the statues? Three in particular, which take center stage quite literally in Seasons 1 & 2. We have:
Crowley and his "wrestling" demon and angel, which had pride of place in his flat.
Gabriel's graveyard statue portrait
Aziraphale's marble bust
Because nothing in the set seems accidental and because the statues are so lovingly and prominently displayed, I think it's worth lavishing some attention on them and think about why the characters chose them/like them/display them. This is gonna get academic, for which I'm sorry/not sorry!
Some background on what we know about each statue, with much thanks to @fuckyeahgoodomens for lots of info regarding #1 and #3 statue origins. The wrestling demon and angel is an original work, based upon the Uffizi statue "The Wrestlers." The original is dated to the age of Augustus after a Greek original, which depicted two men engaging in an Olympic sport called Pankration which is described as "an empty-hand submission sport with scarcely any rules." (Make of that what you will).
Gabriel's statue is particularly fascinating. Typical monumental-sized angel statuary with a large cross either has the cross placed above, and the angel below, carrying it, or the angel crouching while embracing the cross. In either composition, it is the cross which is the focal point. In Gabriel's statue, we see the Cross in a non-dominant position, whereas Gabriel's face is the focal point. Also important to note - in traditional angelic statuary, Gabriel is usually depicted as a herald with a horn, and not with a cross at all.
Aziraphale's statue bust original is located in the Louvre, and is called "The Victorious Athlete." It dates from around the time of Crowley's statue, perhaps a century or so later. It is also Roman and it is most likely an idealized figure, not a Greek portrait. Greek-style hair and features came back into fashion in the Roman first century AD, when the Emperor Hadrian fell in love with a Greek youth, Antinous.
My theory is that each statue represents how its owner sees themself and their purpose. In other words, an allegory that allows us to understand the events of S6 and each respective character's actions.
Crowley: Crowley's statue elevates the beauty of eternal tension between dark and light. It's a spiritual and also a very physical, fleshly beauty. More tension. There is definitely sexuality in that piece as well (a few of us have noticed, including Neil!) Each figure pushes the other to their best effort and is, in turn, shown at its best. And each figure is defined by its engagement with the other.
Gabriel: The statue is a clear portrait, unlike the other two (highly unusual for angelic statuary). The whole composition serves to allow the viewer to look, and admire, Gabriel's face. The hope of a resurrection of the dead, as represented by the cross, is completely sublimated to angel portraiture! Pretty extreme stuff for a graveyard, tbh, and reconciles nicely with Gabriel's complete disinterest with the Second Coming.
Aziraphale: His bust is meant to serve as an idealization and embodiment of qualities of the ancient athlete, summed up in the word arete, a term describing "a maximum of ability and potency for action (optimum potentiae); a man’s effectiveness and skill in goodness." Not making this up, btw, this is a widely accepted view of why such idealized statuary was created to represent ancient Olympic athletes - they were literally offerings dedicated to Gods at sanctuaries in Olympia, Delphi and elsewhere.
Such arete encompasses Aziraphale's goal and purpose, and it makes sense that the bust would be displayed so prominently in his bookshop. In S1, it dangled a medallion presented to him from Heaven in 1800. It is interesting that Aziraphale's medallion is missing from the bust in S2 - has it been stripped by Heaven after the events of S1?
Because Crowley has been stripped of his flat, we have no idea what happened to his wrestling angels statue but we no longer have it in S2 as an allegory to access and reference. Is this because he has evolved in his self-definition and that of his relationship with Aziraphale? We cannot know until we have an opportunity to see his flat again, and whether it is still in place.
We know that Gabriel uses his statue as narcissistic reinforcement and a date spot. With his escape from earth, we expect that it will retain little value to him, shed as a narcissist sheds all supply once it is of no use.
But what has happened to Aziraphale's bust in S2 E6? We see Crowley methodically put everything back together exactly as it was after the Ball/Demon incursion, but we don't see the bust go back in place. What is the significance to its absence in the Kiss scene, and the following one with Metatron? I don't know, but I wonder if this is not foreshadowing to indicate that Aziraphale's self-conception is going to be radically altered as a result of his going to heaven. He is not going to come back the same angel, and his allegory is going to have to change with him!

why was Zeus and Hera’s marriage so unstable and did ancient people like ancient writers think it was unstable?
There isn't a definitive answer for why their marriage is portrayed this way, only theories and interpretations. You'll probably often see their dynamic claimed to represent the forced merging between a matriarchal culture (Prehellenic Greece) and a patriarchal one (the Indo-European invaders), the subordination of a powerful, originally independent goddess by the newcomer god against whose authority she revolts and all that, but of course this is just speculation and the idea of matriarchal prehistory is very controversial.
Another possibility (and this seems quite plausible) is that Hera was an important regional goddess who was not very harmoniously integrated into the Panhellenic Olympian pantheon. Whereas in her main center of worship she was the dominant power, as wife in a patriarchal marriage she has to give way to Zeus. Here's an excerpt from Jennifer Larson's Understanding Greek Religion:
„Interestingly, the diction of Homeric Greek preserves the unexpected formula posis Hērēs (“husband of Hera”) for Zeus, which leaves the impression that Hera is the more important of the two partners. With respect to the religion of everyday social exchange, she was undoubtedly more important to the people in the Argolid peninsula. It was Hera, not Zeus, with whom they interacted most, and on whom they depended for prosperity and victory. Homer repeatedly makes Hera and the other gods acknowledge the overwhelming power of Zeus, yet cultic arrangements in Greek cities did not reflect his supreme status in myth. Instead, nearly the opposite was the case: although all honored him, relatively few poleis made Zeus their patron deity. His early cults were typically situated in remote rural mountaintops and valleys, and he was also worshiped in domestic contexts. The supreme power of Zeus was recognized at Olympia and Nemea, two Peloponnesian sanctuaries which served during the Geometric period as regional gathering places. In the Argolid itself, however, there is little early evidence for the worship of Zeus in his own right. Instead, he seems to have been regarded as the “husband of Hera”: lead plaques depicting Hera and Zeus as a divine couple have been found in three of her eastern Peloponnesian sanctuaries.
This state of affairs created a logical conflict between the mythic, Panhellenic understanding of Zeus as ruler of all the gods and the cultic situation in the Argolid, where the preeminent deity was Hera. Homer and his predecessors were not men of Argos or Mycenae, and they were more concerned with the narrative than the devotional impact of epic song. They responded to the discrepancy between myth and cult by fashioning a theology: Hera, the ferocious partisan of the invading Greeks, comes into constant conflict with Zeus, who sees the bigger picture because he is responsible for the cosmos as a whole. Time and time again, Zeus must bully his deceitful, headstrong wife into submission. … Homer’s portrait of Hera as a disobedient, shrewish wife is a poetic construct fashioned in the service of Panhellenic epic, which insists on the primacy of Zeus. Epic depicts the gods as members of an Olympian family with Zeus as a patriarchal husband, a narrative strategy which requires that Hera, like Shakespeare’s formidable Katharina, be tamed. … The unyielding character of Hera in epic is a product of Homeric artistry, but it also reflects certain characteristics of regional “great goddesses,” such as Argive Hera and Spartan Orthia, who were by turns nurturing and bloodthirsty.”
Did the ancients themselves see their marriage as unstable? Well, they could and did criticize the way the gods were portrayed by the poets, and that definitely included Zeus and Hera. For example, there seem to have been several attempts to interpret Zeus hanging Hera from her wrists with anvils attached to her feet allegorically, suggesting that it was considered quite problematic; „Next, the audacity of those who fasten on Homer finds fault with the binding of Hera. They think they have here rich material for their impious rage against him”, Heraclitus says, after which he proceeds to provide an allegorical interpretation. Aristarchus athetized the lines from Iliad 14 in which Zeus lists several of his sexual unions with women and goddesses to Hera, one of the reasons being that it is inappropriate for the situation and would serve to repel Hera more than anything. And of course there is also Plato, who takes issue with several incidents where the gods behave in a questionable way: „But Hera's fetterings by her son and the hurling out of heaven of Hephaistos by his father when he was trying to save his mother from a beating, and the battles of the gods in Homer's verse are things that we must not admit into our city either wrought in allegory or without allegory. For the young are not able to distinguish what is and what is not allegory.” Lucian of Samosata found much material to satyrize in the marriage of Zeus and Hera, first and foremost his cheating and her negative reaction to it. He outright has her say that she is neglected by Zeus, has Leto mock her over the fact that being the wife of Zeus and sharing his throne will provide her little satisfaction when he'll be off cheating again and she'll be crying about it, + several interactions between Hera and Zeus that are far from loving and harmonious.
We of course can't know what the average ancient Greek thought about their relationship in myth, but clearly there were people who found some aspects of it questionable.

After reading a few of books about Hekate (about her origins, mythology, symbols, devotees’ experiences, etc) I found out that to my surprise worshipping her alongside Dionysus is not as unusual as I initially thought, as I barely found anything about worshipping the two or any connection other than their aspects of rebirth months ago when I started researching about Dionysus
“…the god Dionysos, whose cult intersects with that of Hekate at various points…”
Circle for Hekate - Volume I: History & Mythology , Sorita D’Este, 2017
"The female side of the royal line was particularly devout to Dionysos, and Alexander's mother, Olympias, was well known for her exceptional loyalty to him. She was initiated into the service of Dionysos at Samothrace where the chthonic mysteries of Hekate-Brimo and her consort Dionysos/Sabazios were celebrated and the sanctuary was thereafter taken into Macedonia's protection."

Bronze Head of a Griffin
Greek, third quarter of the 7th century BCE
Bronze cauldrons set on tripods or conical stands were among the most spectacular votive gifts dedicated in Greek sanctuaries from the eighth to the sixth centuries B.C. Cast-bronze griffins' heads often decorated the cauldron rims; they projected outward from the shoulder of the vessel on long necks made of hammered or cast bronze. Some of the dedicated cauldrons were colossal. The Greek historian Herodotus describes one made for King Kroisos of Lydia that could hold 2,700 gallons and another dedicated on the island of Samos that was supported by huge kneeling figures. Over six hundred bronze griffins' heads from cauldrons are known today; most have been found at the sanctuary of Zeus at Olympia or at that of Hera on Samos. This enormous head is one of the finest.

Myths aside and out of curiosity, did any ancient Greeks worship Cronus the same way the Romans saw Saturn?
I found some references to Kronos' veneration in Chaironeia, Pelion, Thebes, Arcadia and Minor Asia coast. In Olympia there was Kronios Hill, where they did sacrifices, and in Athens there was the sanctuary of Kronos and Rhea next to Zeus' temple.
We have information that the Athenians celebrated Kronia (Κρόνια), which later became the Roman festival of Saturnalia. It was at the beginning of the year (in the Εκατομβαιών month), towards the end of our modern July. It commemorated the time Kronos and Ilios (the sun) reigned upon the earth, the Golden Age of the Human Race, when there were no slaves and masters. That day the slaves could sit on their masters' tables, and sometimes the masters served the slaves. It was a festival to give thanks for the fertile earth and ask for a good harvest for the year to come. It's very possible that some of the Greek New Year traditions like singing kalanda and using/breaking pomegranates for good luck and fertility hail from the festival of Kronia.
That's some condensed information but I hope it's enough for you to start your search!

THE INHERITANCE ~
NAME. UTP AGE & BIRTH DATE. 25+ SPECIES. Witch FACTION. Tower of Olympia OCCUPATION. UTP
Olympian. Warrior. They knew from the moment you stepped foot in the tower, the knobby-kneed child fresh off a sea-ridden storm. Everyone knew where you would someday call home. It wasn’t your fault that you had been born with magic in your veins, but in Iskaldrik, what awaited you was a fate worse than death. Other children talked about the vile nature of witches; even your father huffed about a mother you’d never met. You thought he’d hate you if he ever discovered what you were. Instead, he wept, shielded you, and gave everything to see you safely on a merchant vessel departing from Bjarnheim and destined for the distant port of Eterna. Eterna was a promised place of safety and sanctuary. Your hands were small, but they were already calloused from hard labor, chopping wood, and the arduous toils of the peasantry you called home. You would never know what ever became of your father, the mines, maybe death, but when the Olympians befitted you with patronage, you knew there was only one place that could suit you: Mars, God of war. Wherever those who would hurt children like you were hiding, you would find them, and wherever kindly men or women were being punished for protecting people like you, you would shield them. You would never be that child again, you would never be weak, and should the day come when the Iskaran lands called you home, they’d find a hurricane where a peasant had once been.

Santa Monica, Los Angeles - 1990
Big brown eyes stared wide as a f-14 flies above her head, blowing her hair everywhere. She jumps with happiness as she watches her Uncle Ice fly pass them with a bright smile on his face.
“Percy, come here sweetheart” her dad commands softly, eyeing how happy she looks when she’s on base. “You like that, kiddo?”
“Mhm, papa like how fast they go, I want to do that too”
“You could Percy, you could get up there and fly like me and Uncle Ice”
“Yeah I could papa, Bradley and I would be like you guys” she said happily holding a toy plane in the air, flying it as the other pilots fly pass her.
“If your'e anything like me Percy Kate, you’ll fly high like I do, hopefully not as crazy as me” Maverick winked at his daughter. Throwing her up in the air and kissing her. He knew right away, his daughter, would fly like him, enjoying seeing the sun and clouds.
“I love you Percy”
“I love you too papa”, she then ambushed him with kisses.
Miramar, San Diego California - 2019
Percy stood over top her aunt and uncle gravestones, praying to find sanctuary in the hell she’s in right now. It’s been almost 20 years, Bradley and her haven’t talked yet—not a call or text, she can’t call a number that doesn’t have someone on the other side, a number that's no longer in service.
A man that obviously doesn’t want to be called. Doesn’t want to be connected to his past, a woman who once yearned for him now hates his guts.
Percy stops a teardrop from flying down her face. Her daughter yelling her name, “mama are you okay?”, Olympia asks her as if she understands what's going on. As if she understood the rift that's been in their family for so long. Olympia stands quietly next to her mom like she knew the silence was needed for a moment.
So much pain caused by the two men she loved.
“Mama, mama” she said again–looking at her for answers, waiting for her questions to be answered.
“I’m sorry Ollie I was just thinking back to sad times, but being with you makes me happy” Percy shakes herself as if she’s shaking the sadness off and absorbing all her daughter’s happiness.
“Okay, mama love you” Ollie says with her head tilted up to the sky.
“Love you too sweetie”
Her daughter is careful of the scar on her cheek as Percy lifts her up in the air. A bruise that couldn’t been hidden with makeup.
There hadn’t been a day when Percy didn’t wear makeup outside the house or inside the house, trying her damnest to not allow Ollie to see her father anger released on to her mother.
Now she walks around bruised, free. Except one.
She’s lying there’s a bruise right below her left eye that leads to her jawline, a bruise that the Navy thinks came from when she crashed down in mission, not from her ex-husband Nolan jagged knife.
A scar that led to her being called scar-face by her ex-husband. Being stared at in public—watching little kids hold on tight on to their parents, people whispering in-front of her as if she was invisible.
A scar that her daughter kisses every morning and night.
She was pulled out of her thoughts as Penny, the owner of the Hard deck approached her. Her dad’s on and off girlfriend.
“Hey kiddo, whatcha want today” she asked, pulling her thumb to thousands of alcohol choices.
“Hmm, I think I’ll take a water” Percy chuckled at Penny raised eyebrows.
“What?” she threw her hands up playfully.
“It’s not every day you see a Navy pilot just drinking water” Penny replied with a wink.
“Well Penny, I have a kid I’d like to go home too tonight”
“I understand kid, bye” Penny put it on the table, grabbing the money and leaving to attend to another patron.

She watched a group of pilots in-front of her, some she knew, some she didn’t.
Hangman, an arrogant Texas Ken, his buddy Coyote they act like Yin&Yang together, the only man to calm the loudmouth Texas man. And her favorite Phoenix Trace a woman who’s not to toyed with a woman who could beat you senseless with one hand tied her back.
Fanboy and Payback, two new faces.
Percy listened to their conversation.
“Bagman here is the only pilot here with one confirmed kill”
“Hangman” his smile was forced, his shiny-ass teeth were purely white. Of course. Ken doll.
“Aren’t you forgetting someone, Phoenix the great Ambush?”, a mysterious man piped into the conversation.
A woman with a lot of souls collected.
“As in legendary Commander Ambush Mitchell, the daughter of Maverick Mitchell?” Percy really wished naval aviators would stop doing that–only associating her with her father, never thinking about her and her greatness. But then again, she did join the navy, but at what cost?
“ The only woman and pilot to have 13 confirmed kills” the man supplies the group with the information.
“Seems like she has a fan” Hangman teased, his southern accent thick and smooth as butter.
“Something you don’t have Bagman”
“Who are you?” Phoenix asks the mysterious man.
“Bob Floyd” his confidence spark gone.
“As in my new back-seater” Phoenix says happily.
“I guess so” Bob replies, still quiet.
Percy smiles at the group, little did they know something big was ahead , something like death.
“Bradshaw! Is that you?” Phoenix yells over the music.
Phoenix was mistaken, no way was that man Bradley Bradshaw. The man she hasn’t heard from in seventeen years,
Percy ducked her head, keeping herself out of sight—doing what she does best, being invisible.
Percy slightly turned her head as she covered by the plethora of brown uniforms, watching with her mouth wide open.
There he was Bradley“Rooster” Bradshaw, her childhood best friend, she looks at the clock begging for time to go faster. Percy smile drops, it seemed to her that Bradley had a better a life here, better than her.
Phoenix leaned into his shoulder“You hear about Ambush coming in this mission?”
“Ambush that soon?, rumor says she was taking a break from her nasty divorce”, More known aviators started to appear in the bar with the evening approaching. She was recovering from the nasty hits but sure, a nasty divorce sounds better.
“The hell kind of mission is this?”
“A mission that needs the best of the best for it” Phoenix replied, “you should be asking who’s going to teach us, everyone here is the best there is, who the hell is going to teach us?”
“Any of them Ambush” Coyote asks Phoenix.
“Nope, but it’s possible the woman is too good to be left off” Phoenix said, everyone knew the reason Ambush’s kill count was so high was because she never leaves till everyone dead, even going as far as sacrificing her life for it. The woman hides in the clouds waiting to make the kill.
Everyone knew she’s too good to be true.
The bar silent, too silent, she eyed at who and why. A short man with brunette hair had the floor.
A man she knew. God damn it, dad.
Penny makes her way to Pete Mitchell with card in her hand. “It’s been declined Pete” He takes out cash out his wallet– just why did he think money was going to cover the entire bar?, who knows her father like to dream and apparently this is one of them.
“I’ll come back tomorrow with the cash” Maverick responded. Penny walks towards the rope that held the bell, she rings it twice—signaling the crowd to chant “Overboard”.
“Really?”, Maverick asks her. The woman smiles innocently, chuckling before waving goodbye to him. As Coyote and Hangman lift him out the bar and tossing him on his ass.
She nodded her head Penny approving of the ‘punishment’, Percy going home to a grumpy old man.
A grumpy old man who doesn’t listen.
She hears a song that too memorized, a song she spent her childhood belting out to with Bradley and dad, Uncle Goose. The first song she sang aloud too, with her dad- dancing around as they sang like the family they were once.
Great Balls Of Fire.
It’s like Bradley felt eyes staring at him ,and she hurriedly turn her head back, backing out the door.
Sharing one more glance at Bradley, she watched the pilots around Bradley singing and dancing, oh how Percy wished that was them again.
A girl can wish, but will the wish actually come true?
She looked one more time before making it into her car. Driving away from her problems, something that starting to become a real problem for her.
Percy sighed tomorrow is going to be long day.
