Beyond all of the flaws that viewers and critics have already commented on, Velma just isn’t funny. The jokes don’t land, and probably 90% of the jokes are niche insults to very specific groups of people. I watched both episodes all of the way through, and I only laughed once (at the way Glenn Howerton says “Bathies!”).
I’d say that at its core, this show doesn’t work because the writers and creators very clearly resent Scooby Doo, and probably all animation. IP only works if the person making the IP has a respect and love for the original.
SBTB is a great example, because even though it was a parody and satire that heavily critiqued, teased, and called out the original show, there was an underlying love there. The show gave Slater and Jessie another shot at love while also having them grow individually in their respective arcs. Kelly decided to go to med school. Zack confronted his flaws and changed to support Mac. Screech got a beautiful tribute. And Lisa, although she deserved more screen time, was shown to be successful and living well.
Fans are smart. We pay attention to the little details and catch onto the nuances. We can tell if the people making the IP resent and disregard the original material, if they ever even watched it at all. And Velma is about as subtle as a chainsaw to the head.

When I have a new movie crush, I try to find something to dislike about them to dispel the enchantment. Belmont Cameli is making that really difficult. He’s a freaking ORGAN DONOR, for Christ’s sake.

SAVED BY THE BELL WAS CANCELLED??!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?
Bestie, I'm just as shocked as you are. They announced it in May. Though Peacock hasn't given an official reasoning, nor will we likely ever get one, ScreenRant speculates it's due to the show's ratings not being higher since season one, plus the service is still looking for their Hit Show. (The hero product they can flaunt with and, consequently, be on the same level as their competitors like Disney+) So, they'd want to invest in creating that show instead of SBTB that was just doing 'okay'.
It's just really unfortunate. I don't understand why shows like SBTB (or even JATP, made for younger teens) get cancelled. There's a clear market for YA shows such as these, but somehow aren't getting the proper attention of higher-ups.
On another note, I'm interested to see how the Degrassi reboot by HBO Max will be received. Degrassi had its edgy/dark moments at times, so knowing the service, I assume they'll turn that up to eleven and dial back on the cheesiness and lightheartedness the show possessed as well. It makes me wonder if this is the direction the teen tv landscape will go in: the death of the tween. It's either Disney Channel, or teen show reboots ran by adult streaming services that barely capture the teenage experience at all.
It's so frustrating. Why can't teenagers just be... teenagers?

hiiiii, joy and mara for the character thing
thank you!
JOY:
Why I like them: she's so well developed and funny and she just feels so real?? like I love female characters with actual flaws that they learn from its so much nicer than her just being perfect from the get go.
Why I don’t: I mean the nina article?? its kinda obvious tho. also maybe her involvement in jerome and mara's relationship at the very beginning of s3 like i get it and she was just being a good friend but I feel like if mara made more of those decisions herself then maybe the heartbreak would've hurt her less?? idk its pretty minor. also the fabian kiss(es) because.....
Favorite episode (scene if movie): the scene where she takes over the class and her scene with jerome where she tells them to be the bigger person
Favorite season/movie: three!!!
Favorite line: “aw eddie, someone already invented spaghetti bolognese”
Favorite outfit: her s3 uniform
OTP: jeroy
Brotp: joytricia, mara and joy, joy and alfie, idk most people
Head Canon: she has a cat named bella after bella from twilight lol
Unpopular opinion: I understand where people are coming from when they say the joy and nina plotline was unnecessary and some parts definitely were but idk I liked joy's arc in s2 I think it was a realistic teenage girl reaction to coming back to your home and finding that someone else has kinda taken your place. I like complex female relationships and I think in the end it was worth doing. also, I like that the fabian thing did follow into s3. like yeah maybe it could feel a little repetitive but with nina gone I think she needed real closure, not just stepping aside for the sake of someone else but to actually get a real answer and move on to have her arc where she found herself was far more real than just having her show up at the beginning of the season with a new look and attitude with no real growth idk I love her
A wish: idk a scene at the end of s3 or tor where she and patricia jus got to be friends and talk a little about everything idk
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: a reboot lol idk unless its done exclusively done by the people who did the sbtb reboot I don't ever wanna see a yassified 2022 version of her character development
5 words to best describe them: idkkkkk I don't like this part
My nickname for them: ?
MARA:
Why I like them: she so real and flawed and manages to be smart without slotting into the nerd archetype where she like hates fun and she's unapologetic about who she is and she’s die hard for her friends and I really appreciate that
Why I don’t: people in the show wince at some of the problematic shit she does (if they even know about it) but like the show doesn’t hold her accountable for much?? she keeps making the same kind of mistakes for the entire run of the show without really learning from them because no one ever makes her?? she has a massive problem with boundaries and knowing when to step back and mind her business.
Favorite episode (scene if movie): s3 revenge arc and tor
Favorite season/movie: same as above
Favorite line:  “We better hurry because it’s 93 million miles away! Science joke I’ll explain on the way”
Favorite outfit: i don't knowww lol her graduation gown
OTP: mickara
Brotp: joy and mara, patricia and mara, alfie and mara, eddie and mara
Head Canon: she was only put in boarding school in secondary school because of her parents’ travelling and busy schedules due to their careers as famous sports people and previous to that she was home schooled. she has a great relationship with her parents
Unpopular opinion: she was wayyy too in jerome’s business in s2 like to get that involved in his family and almost manipulate jerome’s feelings for her in order to get poppy what she wanted was too much like he was obsessed with her and still you could tell he was on the verge of snapping. and to write that article about eddie and jerome’s relationships with their fathers based purely on what they’d told her in confidence and then publish it without their permission?? in a place eddie’s dad could literally read it whilst barely concealing their identities?? that was kinda fucked. and people say her comment about jerome’s dad in s3 was out of left field but like she was saying shit like “do you want to end up like your dad” in s2 she’s always had this sense of moral superiority about the situation and being mad was all it took for that to properly come out. like she's such an interesting character but she’s definitely among the more sheltered of the house.
A wish: I just want her to be happy, see a therapist, figure some things out.
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: people who say she’d never talk to anyone from anubis again you're so wrong that’s her family!!
5 words to best describe them: -
My nickname for them: I honestly ??

My peak tv Journey *Saved by the Bell*
I loved the Peacock Saved by the Bell reboot. I saw the first season when it was briefly not behind paywall right before the second season. I did not upgrade to a paid version, and it was cancelled. But then there was a special subscription rate that I did upgrade for and the second season was the first thing I watched. Now I really can be disappointed that it was cancelled!
I have started to become interested in how different fandoms are on different social media. A romance popular on Facebook can be derided on Twitter. While when I see posts on here that love the reboot, when I watch clips on YouTube where the original and reboot versions are compared to each other the comments tend to say things like “I only laughed at the scenes from the original, who is the news show even for?” Which made me wonder if the new version is for people who don’t like the original. I remembered a review of the first season on Vox focused author Aja Romano’s bafflement about who the target audience is, which helped create this idea in me. That said, I’m clearly the audience for this show and I’m not someone who hates the original.
I remember being kind of obsessed with the original when in was on in syndication seemingly everyday after school and occasional weekend mornings. It was fascinating. I often wanted assurances that kids older than I were not like that. But I had to be invested enough that I was was shocked when Kelly dumped Zack for Jeff, and generally think it was silly that Slater went after Kelly so much while his real sparks were with Jesse. Also most of the treatment of Screech was mean. And Lisa was often treated as an afterthought. I’m the kind of former viewer that the Funny or Die series Zack Morris is Trash was made for, then you’re right. And realizing that the guy behind that, Dashiell Driscoll, was also working on this was promising for me, if discouraging for others. And I like Tracey Wigfield from her other word from 30 Rock to Great News. Eventually I found a YouTube comment cursing the “wokeness” and “predictability” of of the new show while clearly not having watched even the clip that the writer watched and getting everything about in their predictions wrong. I stopped worrying about what these comments said about who the show was for and filed this to my continual anxiety about reactionary backlash to any programming that doesn’t center on straight, cis, white male characters.
The Peacock SBTB is self consciously a tv series in a way that the original wasn’t. Characters from the original make jokes about the lack of continuity in the old series including family members who showed up once only never to be heard from again and  the fact that it started as a different series set in Indiana then became the SBTB we know and was in CA.  In the new cast of characters, Zack and Kelly’s son Mac is a prankster who is self conscious about living up to the legend of his father. The series’s inciting incident involves kids from the underfunded Douglas High School being bussed to Bayside on the order of Governor Zack Morris, and these characters  frequently comment on how the in world things from the original are weird and a sign of them being very wealthy.
Jesse and Slater are the only members of the original cast to an appear on every episode and they are really well used. They are there to mostly support the new kids who are the real stars. When they had more of the old cast back an were highlighting them, the show was on weak footing.  I really didn’t like the home coming episode in the first season where they wondered where they wonder why their friendships don’t feel real like then. The Screech memorial scene was necessary and sweet, so I can’s judge it. The second season’s career fair episode was slightly better than the homecoming one. There was a whole subplot to make meta jokes Elizabeth Berkley being in Showgirls and its reception. I appreciate that she went there. The jokes were uneven and they mostly left me feeling sad.
As I said the real stars are the kids, and they as great. I especially like the girls Daisy and Aisha and their aspirational friendship. I love the details like their occasional slipping into Spanish, and that they have had multiple conversations about which pro basketball players cheat on their wives. They’re supportive of each other’s craziness and ambitions. I loved watching them.
Of the Douglas High School students Devonte feels underutilizing. Some of that was about emphasizing that he’s kind of a loner, uninterested in the drama of the other main characters. It made sense that he’d be the one to have a long term romantic relationship with a reoccurring character. Whenever he is in the spotlight he’s a consistent delight, and it made me miss him.
As for the Bayside kids, they’re wonderfully incapable of being self conscious. They’re ridiculous, but worthy of sympathy. I liked them best when when they interacted the Douglas kids.
The second season had a few message episodes about facing transphobia, racism, financial anxiety. They were notably earnest and not at all like it would have been done on the original series.

I miss Mac and Daisy we were robbed with them being the endgame. According to the creator of the SBTB reboot Tracey Wigfield she confirmed on Twitter that Mac and Daisy would of gotten together in Season 3. I am hoping another network picks it up because we deserve to see them at least graduate high school in the series finale.
yeah it's nice to know they would've ended up together but the fact that we're not gonna be able to see it is evil ☹️ i don't think it's popular enough to get picked up elsewhere but we can hoooope
