Don't Mess with TCM
This week a tone deaf, corporate media power broker in charge of Warner Bros/Discovery decided to fire the entire upper management of Turner Classic Movies and fold the hugely popular network into its media empire. Boo! Hiss! To translate power broker actions into plain English that meant the plan was to squeeze the life out of a division with one of the most loyal audience bases around until…

But, as we have seen, suffrage was only one small aspect of what the W.R.M. was all about. A hundred years of brilliant personalities and important events have also been erased from American history. The women orators who fought off mobs, in the days when women were not allowed to speak in public, to attack Family, Church, and State, who traveled on poor railways to cow towns of the West to talk to small groups of socially starved women, were quite a bit more dramatic than the Scarlett O' Haras and Harriet Beecher Stowes and all the Little Women who have come down to us. Sojourner Truth and Harriet Tubman, freed slaves who went back time and again, with huge prices on their heads, to free other slaves on their own plantations, were more effective politically than the ill-fated John Brown. But most people today have never even heard of Myrtilla Miner, Prudence Crandall, Abigail Scott Duniway, Mary Putnam Jacobi, Ernestine Rose, the Claflin sisters, Crystal Eastman, Clara Lemlich, Mrs. O. H. P. Belmont, Doris Stevens, Anne Martin. And this ignorance is nothing compared to ignorance of the lives of women of the stature of Margaret Fuller, Fanny Wright, the Grimké sisters, Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Harriet Stanton Blatch, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Alice Paul.
And yet we know about Louisa May Alcott, Clara Barton, and Florence Nightingale, just as we know about, rather than Nat Turner, the triumph of Ralph Bunche, or George Washington Carver and the peanut. The omission of vital characters from standard versions of American history in favor of such goody-good models cannot be tossed off. Just as it would be dangerous to inspire still-oppressed black children with admiration for the Nat Turners of their history, so it is with the W.R.M.: The suspicious blanks in our history books concerning feminism—or else the confusion of the whole W.R.M. with the (conservative) suffrage movement or the reformist women's groups of the Progressive Era—is no accident.
It is part of a backlash we are still undergoing in reaction to the first feminist struggle. The few strong models allowed girls growing up in the fifty-year silence have been carefully chosen ones, women like Eleanor Roosevelt, of the altruistic feminine tradition, as opposed to the healthily selfish giants of the radical feminist rebellion. This cultural backlash was to be expected. Men of those days grasped immediately the true nature of a feminist movement, recognizing it as a serious threat to their open and unashamed power over woman. They may have been forced to buy off the women's movement with confusing surface reforms—a correction of the most blatant inequalities on the books, a few changes of dress, sex, style ("you've come a long way, baby"), all of which coincidentally benefited men. But the power stayed in their hands.

Spoilers for: Jojo's Bizzare Adventure Steel Ball Run Chapter 6
Tumblr media
This? I love it. The writing and colour pallete is very soft. Very vintage American. It looks like the posters that you would see in those 80s to 90s cream soda, cotton candy places (has never seen those kind of places in real life).
15/10 would definitely buy cream soda.
Tumblr media
I don't know what I like more: that Johnny figured Gyro's horse's habits almost immediately or that the way it is written implies that he was shocked that a British dude figured it out as well.
Tumblr media
I love how the horses are drawn here. They remind me of my old horse toys.
12/10 will save money for a toy horse
Tumblr media
Yes!! It's spiny ball magic time!!! This might actually my favorite thing right now.
Also the way its drawn reminds me of Dr. Strange. It's the glowy greeness and the spinyness.
14.5/10 might actually make this my phone's homescreen
Tumblr media
Swirls!!! I hope the horse isn't hurt tho.
11/10 looks vaguely like McDonald's soft serve cone ice cream. Vaguely.
Tumblr media
...did the spiny ball magic give the horse enough horse power to break a bridge??!? I hope the horse's legs are alright. The force exerted on the hooves must have hurt.
Tumblr media
The amount of times the announcer(s) rubs it in Diego's face that he can't cross the bridge is sending me. This is peak comedy.
Tumblr media
The tents look very pretty. My roommate doesn't agree with me but this is my post so my opinion matters more (sorry roomie).
12.5/10 looks very nice
Tumblr media
My guy... you're late. It's not 10AM anymore.
Also this guy is from Georgia. The only things I know about that place are: Scarlett O' Hara, the Coca-Cola factory, and Atlanta International Airport.

🌱 moonflower
Historical & Cultural Association
One of September's birth flowers, the other one is the aster.
Symbolises the 11th wedding anniversary, along with aster and tulip.
In Victorian era, it carries the symbol of love and death. Morning glory vines have been pictured growing on tombstones. It represents mourning, short life and in some cases, resurrection. In Victorian love language, it symbolises love in vain.
The Aztecs used the juice of morning glories to create a substance similar to rubber. Before a sacrifice, the seeds were mixed with insects and tobacco, then rubbed all over their bodies. This mixture was believed to help the sacrificial victim in finding the afterlife and being reborn.
In Japan, the flower is a symbol of innocence and love.
In rural England, morning glories are also called Life of Man, as they symbolise human lives.
In China, morning glories are associated with a mythical love story, where Chien Niu (name meaning: the one who guides/shepherds the cows) and Chih Neu (name meaning: the one who knits) are allowed to meet only once a year as they have neglected their duties and were punished by a God.
The Chinese also used this flower as a powerful laxative, although consuming high dosages would result in hallucinations.
Many Chinese poets praised this flower in their poems, often associating it with hardworking and optimistic qualities.
Christians believe that the morning glory resembles the short time we spend on earth.

Do you think Rohanne Webber was inspired by Scarlett O Hara from Gone With The Wind?
There are some similarities with the multiple marriages, the dead children, trusting in her inherited estate over men and managing it as her prime goal, hardened by the war, pining over someone from her teens who can’t return her love, using her sex appeal to manipulate a guy so she can keep her lands…but those are character traits other GRRM female characters share, so I can’t say she’s directly inspired by Scarlett. Scarlett is a lot more complex than Rohanne (she’s the central protagonist of a thousand page novel rather than a Femme Fatale supporting character in a 30,000 word novella), more tragic (in that she loses the people who loved her unconditionally; Rohanne gets her happy ending), more politically incorrect (her romanticism of the antebellum South and the eviction of Cherokee people from Georgia) in addition to some pro-woman thoughts about herself, more vain and impulsive, etc
