Guess That Ship Tournament Season 10: Submissions CLOSED!

The Concept: You describe your ship* to me, I pick out the submissions which I find most compelling and pit them against each other without revealing who they are, people vote on them, and their identities gets revealed once they’re eliminated.

Something special for this season will be a loser's bracket: the identities of the losers of Round 1 will not be revealed immediately. Instead, they will compete in their own bracket, and the winner will face against the finalists in the main bracket.

Submission Guidelines

*For the purpose of this tournament, relationships do not have to be romantic in nature. I’m sometimes going to use “ship” as a shorthand, just know I mean “relationships” in general.

Relationship can be between any number of characters.

Real people are accepted if they’ve been dead for more than 100 years.

Roleplay characters are accepted as long as the description only pertains to the characters and not the players.

OCs are accepted.

No overtly NSFW submissions. (Mentioning they have sex or are a sex worker is fine, but try to avoid anything more than that.)

Two submission per person. (I cannot enforce this on Google Forms without forcing you to log in. So just be champs and respect this rule.)

Failure to follow these guidelines may result in all of your submissions being disqualified for this season.

Summary Guidelines

Selection Process: I will read through the list of descriptions submitted without reading their names and pick the most compelling submissions. Then, I will check the name to make sure there's no repeats.

Keep it concise, but also bring something unique to the table. Make sure to describe their relationship, not just summarize the events of the story.

Previous submissions for reference. The ideal submission should be 2-3 paragraphs, but you can make it as short or long as you want. Please keep in mind the longer your submission, the less likely it is to get in.

A list of things to try to avoid can be found here.

Descriptions should be based on canon, not headcanon. (e.g. You can say “they love each other” instead of “they’re lovers” if their romantic nature is debatable.)

Avoid author commentary. (e.g. "They're canonically x," "I love them," "Play/watch/read this," etc.)

Use canonical pronouns.

Avoid identifying information or setting specific giveaways. (i.e. Ninja village, space necromancers.)

When submitting OCs, please make sure to at least put a name somewhere. (e.g. "John and Bob by anonymous" or "OCs by Joey.")

The more popular your ship is the more vague the description should be.

Exclusions

Ships that were accepted in Season 7 onwards and ships that at least reached the semifinals in Season 1-6 are not allowed. For a complete list, please look here. (No need to look through the whole list, just Ctrl+F to find the ship you want.)

Any submissions from Harry Potter will also not be included.

Notes

I will not vet the ships/pairings for problematic content.

now that a new season of Fantasy High has launched and we won't be gaining any new PCs for a hot second, it's the perfect time to subject Dimension 20's 104 existing PCs to gladiatorial combat for our amusement! it's time to use hard math to determine who is the most beloved of all the dimension 20 player characters 🔥

edit: because two extra characters were allowed into round 2 to compete against each other (Pinocchio and Amethar), those numbers will actually have to go 104 > 54 > 28 > 14 > 8 > 4 > 2 > winner. virtually the same process, just with slightly larger pools in rounds 2 and 3 before ending up on the same place we would have anyway for round 4.

I have been very heavily inspired by @spnepisodebracket and @spnmarchmadness so I wanted to do a little poll thing of my own. This is going to be the masterpost with links to all the polls for each season and will in the end have the list of the single most voted fro episode per season, for a total of 15 episodes. I also might do a loser bracket for worst episode, based on what gets the least votes, so keep an eye out for that.

SUBMISSION YAYS:

Not limited to just manga; as long as we're talking GL (or, at the very least, comics about lesbians), manhua, webcomics & other non-japanese comics are fine!

Oneshots, anthologies & ongoing works are all equally A-OK.

While I ask that you don't submit straight up hentai, any amount of sexual content in a work is alright (just give a heads up 👍).

Titles that explore or touch on dark subject matter are fine (encouraged. even.), again just give a heads up.

SUBMISSIONS NAYS:

While there's no strict page minimum, future polls won't include very short works; I'll still shout them out if they're submitted, but I feel they don't make for very fun competition.

Submit as many titles as you like, but number of submissions has little to no impact on acceptance, so no need to spam the same one.

Anything romanticising or sexualising incest/rape/grooming/etc will not be accepted; its a blurry line between that and having dark themes, of course, so acceptance and rejection are up to my discretion.

I take screencaps & go through series tags for the bulk of propaganda, but submitted propaganda is also readily accepted. All that stuff gets queued, but I share submissions right away.

CONTENT WARNINGS:

Polls give a general heads up of any notable warnings for the series in the post, but once they're out of the tournament, they get a more detailed recommendation post that's more specific and comprehensive.

That being said, some of these I didn't read a lot of, haven't read in awhile, or are still ongoing, so be please be cautious!

SEEDING:

Seeding is based on MAL ranking or, if there's no MAL ranking available, it's assigned a random number between 1500 & 10,000 and placed into the challonge bracket based on that.

OFFICIAL TIE PROTOCOL:

TIE IN THE MAIN BRACKET -> Treated as a double loss, aka both go to the Losers' Bracket in a three way match. Of the two that tied, the highest scorer goes back to the main bracket. The lowest scorer of all three gets knocked out.

TIE IN THE LOSERS BRACKET -> Treated as a double win, aka both go to the next round of the Losers' Bracket in a three way match. The highest scorer moves forward, and the other two get knocked out.

Worst MLP Song: Results of Round 2

Long post, many stats

The three biggest landslides were Snips and Snails Rap (78.77%, 115 to 31 votes), 'Cloudsdale's Anthem' sung by Spike (81.62%, 222 to 50 votes), and You Got to Share, You Got to Care (82.33%, 233 to 50 votes).

You Gotta Share and Snips and Snails Rap went up against actual songs, which is a big (dis)advantage even if the songs are mid. Spike's Cloudsdale Anthem managed to pull these numbers despite going against a songlet (from Pinkie nonetheless!)

The three closest matches were Friends Are Always There For You beating School of Friendship (52.7%, 70 to 78 votes), Hop Skip And Jump Song beating Rainbow (50.74%, 67 to 69 votes), and It's a Pony Kind of Christmas beating Piggy Dance (50.5%, 101 to 99 votes).

Two matches came within just 2 votes. Also note how Rainbow only barely lost to a songlet (that they deliberately made worse in production). Pretty bad showing for even a mid song, we really hate Sia.

The average win margin this round was 64.45%

The biggest upset was Scootaloo's First Draft (criticized in-show) beating Rappin Hist'ry of the Wonderbolts (5 submissions)

Last round, there were 2 songs (Magic Inside and Rainbow) that had won Round 1 in their tournaments. Both were defeated here, so the bracket is now just the losers (plus Scootloo's Draft and Happy Flowers, which were never in a tournament before this)

I was correct in my prediction that the two songs entering round 2 that I had saved would both be eliminated. My 11-year-old self, on the other hoof, still has a song they saved in the tournament. Like I said last time, I think it's semifinalist material, so it's not going away anytime soon.

VOTE FOR JOEL

Reasons:

1. He is an absolute loser and a pathetic meow meow

In season 2 he is so insecure that he goes out of his way to make lore in order to make it cannon that he is tall and sexy. His own wife refuses to be his lawyer because she knows he will lose.

Going off the last sentence, in last life, whenever joel interacts with lizzie she always talks about how incompetent he is before and afterwards. In the one scene where she flirts with him, he has the most awkward and uncool respince possible. She votes for him to die first and profits off it. He dies 4 times in the second episode and looses all his friends (only had one to begin with).

In afterlife when Joel has objectively the best origin in the game, he needs an umbrella to walk in the rain. He dies in his second origin because he accidently walks off a cliff. When he has the supposedly "cool" origin (iceling) he falls into a cauldron by accident.

2. Joel is also a total whore

He sleeps with sausage in like the third episode of empires s2. He and his worst-enemy-turned-friend Jimmy fuck barely 2 episodes after they become friends. His wife is a ten foot tall axolotl hybrid who could absolutely step on him and he would let her.

In the first few episodes of double life he takes as little damage as possible and tries to stay out of trouble on green and yellow despite his soulmate going to the deep dark and spawning the warden, all while building a lovely and flammable home.

Joel also flirts with Jimmy in empires s1 and somehow asking Jimmy to be his best man is more romantic than a marriage proposal to his own wife?? He has bi wife energy.

3. He is absolutely unhinged and chaotic

In third life, he tames a wolf army and sicks them on absolutly everyone. It is also believed that one of the life series 'curses' is that the player that tames the most wolves is the most unhinged.

When he goes red life in LL, he tries to get kills on absolutly everyone possible, he also has no hesition when lying to his teammate when he is the boogeyman. He goes on a killing spree with grian at the end, it's even said by Scott that dying of "natural causes" included dying at joel and grians hands.

During double life, as soon as the ship burns he immediately starts burning everything and goes on another killing spree. Also, the first thing he does after dying a second time is killing someone with zero hesitation.

He starts a whole religion and goes on a whole villan arc because of a fucking donkey. A fucking donkey.

Now this is not physically, emotionally, or even that visibly unhinged, but. Let's rember that this is the guy who spent like over twenty hours worth of building in Jimmy's empire for the purpose of 'it would be funny'. It is literally insane. On that topic, all his bases are also absolutly insane, one could say, unhinged.

4. Do it for...

Vote joel, for he derves to win the mcyt sexyman bracket. And if this has convinced you that he is too pathetic to vote for, then do it for his son hermes. Hermes is too precious for this world and his other dad sadly got out of the competition yesterday. Do it for the smol armor stand demigod lore child. Or do it for donkey Jeremy, idk.

real funny little guy I was introduced to him through seeing a shirtless mod that made several already somewhat queer scenes with him even more queer lol. also he dies so sadly and asking Leon (the protagonist) if he turned his life around which is both very catholic flavored and very depressing

Okay so i marked yes because the wiki says he was raised catholic but i can't find a source on that so here is what i for sure know: He does the sign of the cross with his gun when you play as him in the mercenaries mode and a major part of his character was that he grew up in an extremely backwater part of Spain. The head of the village when he lived there had the title of Father so thats Probably Catholic. A side novel released with the game about the village describes the village head as a priest and everyone in the village attending church on Sunday as well.

this guy drives me nuts for a variety of reasons including same age as my mom (not now but the game is set in 2004 so he would be now) he's very goofy and silly in a pretty scary kind of game, he eats floor three times in his second cutscene, and he has an extremely emotional and touching death scene (yeah he dies and im not over it). Also in the OG version of the game the protagonist literally never pronounces his name right even as he is dying (he dies in the original too yeah) so he deserves a break.

Vanessa

Despite her supernatural abilities & such that many people would label her as a sorceress, the series actually establishes that Vanessa, despite her darkness, is in fact Catholic. In fact,according to series creator John Logan in an interview with Variety Magazine discussing the ending of Penny Dreadful, he outright states that the series at its core is about Vanessa’s struggle with faith & doing the right thing, which is something that every Catholic (& even other religions as well) go through at some point before either returning to or turning away from the faith. In Logan’s own words: “This is a show about Vanessa Ives and her struggle with faith — how one woman grapples with God and the Devil.” The television show features on many occasions Vanessa & her Catholicism: her backstory with her childhood makes it very clear that her family was devoutly Catholic, an episode in Season 1 features Vanessa receiving an exorcism from Ethan with a Saint Jude pendant & Latin chanting that begs for divine intervention, Season 2 illustrates Vanessa losing her faith in God due to her guilt, & eventually *SPOILERS* Season 3 ends with Vanessa receiving redemption & her faith in God restored, as Ethan shoots her after saying the Lord’s prayer, saving her & the world from evil. John Logan discusses this redemption of Vanessa in the above mentioned interview. In his own words: “…she’s a character desperately in need of peace, & the mortal realm was not going to give it to her. The options were the realm of the Devil or the realm of God. Her way to achieve apotheosis, to achieve God, was to die and go to Heaven, and find the peace of the grave. That seems appropriate to the tone of the show. What I find remarkable about the ending is that she gets what she wants, which is to die & go to Heaven & be with God.” In other words, the creator of the show outright confirmed that despite her many struggles with faith, Vanessa found redemption & got to join God in Heaven. *SPOILERS* Long story short, it’s a story about a Catholic woman’s struggle with faith, but ultimately finding her way back & being saved.

Since the LCS Players' Association made the choice to object to Riot Games' recent decisions regarding the region's tier-two environment, the competitive League of Legends community in North America has been humming. To compete for a regional trophy and the opportunity to represent their country at the 2023 World Championship in South Korea, all 10 teams are now ready for another ferocious season.
