STARGATE ATLANTIS / "Doppelganger"
John's mind is exposed to his thoughts. They always revolve around one and the same problem, namely not being able to save his friends in an emergency and / or seeing them die. His fear of failure is one of the reasons why he cannot live the life he wants. Because John's head never stands still. Movies run in front of his inner eye. His inner voice tells him what could go wrong. It's almost as if his mind would do anything to sabotage the direction he's taken. It is the voice in his head that makes his thoughts go on a merry-go-round. But that's not the true voice he should be listening to. Listen to your heart, John. Listening to it will be guiding you to find your way. Only then will you find inner peace.

Halloween 2022 Election Fight
Comtraya and Tek'ma'tek, y'all! I know we said that, come September, we would restart the twice a week showing, and bring back SGA and SGU. However, since our anniversary is coming up again, we decided to implement those changes after that.
Regarding the Anniversary viewing on Sunday 30st of October: Last year we announced that for our Anniversary viewing on Halloween, we will be starting to show two spoopy episode, with one being SGA's Whispers as per tradition, and the other episode being another spooky SGA, SG1 or SGU episode. Please reply to this post with the number of the episode in the list. The one with the most votes wins and will be shown on our Anniversary Viewing this year together with Whispers.
Here's the list of spooky episodes to choose from: (SG-1 4x20 Entity was excluded since we watched it last year; SG-1 S05E08 The Tomb as well as S09E17 The Scourge removed in case people can’t deal with creepy critters)
1. Atlantis Season 4 Episode 4: Doppelganger During an off-world mission Colonel Sheppard unknowingly becomes host to an alien entity, which infects others in Atlantis and afflicts them with terrifying nightmares. (Clowns in boats)
2. SG-1 Season 3 Episode 4: Legacy When Daniel goes insane, SG-1 must deal with the legacy of Machello's anti-Goa'uld technology. (mental health care)
3. Atlantis Season 2 Episode 7: Instinct The team discovers a young Wraith girl who has been raised by a human, and is in hiding from the people of her human village in fear of her life. (Can a scorpion change its spots?)
4. Atlantis Season 3 Episode 9: Phantoms Sheppard and Ronon are influenced by a mind-altering device created by the Wraith while on a mission to rescue a lost team. (Trust no one)
5. Universe Season 1 Episode 17: Pain Dr. Tamara Johansen tries to track down what is causing the crew to hallucinate. (pain)
6. SG-1 Season 9 Episode 3: Origin Daniel comes face to face with the Ori, a fiery race of beings who demand the worship of mortals. Elsewhere, Stargate Command encounters the first Ori missionary in our galaxy. (Religion)
7. SG-1 Season 4 Episode 1: Small Victories O'Neill and Teal'c risk their lives to keep the Replicator bugs from gaining a foothold on Earth, while Carter helps the Asgard fend off a Replicator invasion. (Robospooders)
to recap: just put the number of the episode you want to see together with Whispers in the replies
Voting possible until October 27th!

Ask Game: Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers.
@colonelshepparrrrd im counting you as tagging me
Oh, I love the glow -SGA ot4. It's just very tender and I just want John to be taken care of okay??? (was written for a kinkmeme prompt but is entirely fluff)
A better kiss, a hotter touch - Mcshep, written for a kinkmeme prompt. its uh,,, filthy, but writing dom!John was a lot of fun since he's written as a sub 99% of the time
I've got my heart (strung up on clothing line) - mcdanno fluff. An excuse to use one of my favorite tropes: helping someone shave
Scrub and scrub til my body bleeds - SGA ot4 (platonic or romantic). John's a mess after the events of Phantoms. Again I just want John to be taken care of
Swinging like a fist fight - John/Ronon. The Search and Rescue coda we deserved (aka john learning to let people care about him, dammit)
Bonuses: I know that i failed you (woke up in a sweat) - mcshep. John's fucked up after Doppelganger (because who wouldn't be???), and Do you wanna feel a little beautiful, baby - cam/daniel. shameless smut for a kinkmeme prompt, and i couldn't get the idea of trans!daniel out of my head
I know most of my writer friends have done this already, so anyone can do this if they want!

How would you have written season 4 of SGA? 🙂
Gosh now you're asking. Really beyond not killing Elizabeth, I don't have a major outline of changes because I just don't care enough about the show post season 3. I have a few ideas that I've floated around, and I've read some great fics that would have been infinitely better than what was written, but let me preface this by saying that this is broad strokes of what I would want s4 to be and partly what I expected it to be early on as I watched it when it first aired.
I would have had the first two episodes of S4 the same, where Elizabeth stays on the planet and is captured by Oberoth, so the team can get away. John asks Sam to mount a rescue mission, which she would rightly shoot down because they couldn't have the replicators find out where Atlantis is, but she's sympathetic to John, she talks to him about how she understands how helpless he must feel because she's been through it, and if anyone has an idea that where they could rescue Elizabeth without compromising the city then she'll listen. I liked the concept of the Doppelganger episode, but I would have made Elizabeth the focus of John's nightmares rather than him fighting himself.
The Athosians going missing plot would have stayed, but it would have intertwined with them trying to find Elizabeth. The midseason 2 parter would be the team going to the planet where they think the Athosians are, but it's actually where Niam's group is located, who had tricked them into going there with the Athosians ploy. They want to ascend but don't know how, so want to use humans to figure it out. There's Elizabeth here who thinks she's the real Elizabeth, but she realises she's a copy, she helps the team destroy the Asurans, and herself, but not before telling John the location of where she believes Oberoth left Elizabeth in stasis to use for information. With the Asuran's gone they think it's safe to go, but Oberoth and a few Asurans remain trying to get info from Elizabeth on Atlantis. The team beat Oberoth and take Elizabeth to Atlantis and put her in cells as they don't trust her. The finale would be the same, where they find the Athosians and clone Carson with Michael. Then Season 5's "b plot" would be them working out a way to turn off the nanites without killing Elizabeth and where she fits in on Atlantis with Woolsey being the leader.

even in sleep | 1k, t, ronon/evan
thanks to the discord crew for the inspiration. i believe this was @trainofcommand, @hero-in-waiting, and @sparrowsarus <3
She’s right, of course, but Ronon finds himself walking down the corridor and past his room. He can’t wake Teyla. No one would, not this late. Hunting Rodney down at night is more of a chore than a comfort. The thought of finding John makes the room spin, drops the floor out from under him, has his stomach turning uncomfortably, guilt and panic and anger numbing his fingertips again until he realizes where he is— just whose door he’s standing in front of.

Stargate-Atlantis S5: E15 Remnants
You have to understand that Inquisition had a much bigger impact on Sheppard than he admitted. His people, Atlantis, were on trial because of the choices he made. I think it brought to the surface a lot of the same feelings seen in Doppelganger. Sheppard struggles with feeling like he's the biggest threat to his people.
Rodney connects aloneness with Sheppard. Sad sigh.
Woolsey is lonely, Sheppard is alone, and Rodney is cut off from the praise of his peers by the confidentiality of his work. Woolsey is isolated in his leadership, Sheppard is isolated in his warriorness, and Rodney is isolated in his genius. They're each overcome by their own strengths and weaknesses. Woolesy is easily overcome by a friendly, kind woman because he wants a friend. Rodney is overcome by praise because he wants to be acknowledged. Sheppard is overcome by isolation and torture because he believes he's the source of danger for Atlantis. This episode is a weird reflection of Home in season one. Sheppard figured that out first because things were too good. He doesn't figure things out here because he believes they should be this bad.
Sheppard tells Kolya to go to hell, so Kolya takes him there. It's so hard bouncing between the three because Sheppard is enduring so much more than Woolsey and McKay. Woolsey and McKay 'demons' help them. Just. It just hurts how broken Sheppard is.
Kolya: You can tolerate more than any man I've ever known. Why is that?
Sheppard covers his fear with a snarky remark.
Kolya: You're here in the Pegasus Galaxy to protect your people, and half the time, you can't even do that. That's what drives you, your past failures.
Kolya tells Sheppard he can't protect his people, they're as good as dead. It doesn't matter if he holds out.
Kolya's monolog is basically our insight into Sheppard's own mind. He thinks nothing he's done, that there's nothing he can do to keep his people safe. That the bad guys will always find a way to hurt them, and they'll use him to do it.
When Radek compliments Rodney, I just started crying because Rodney's all beaming while Sheppard is tortured. And it just makes you realize people can be hurting, and even their closest friends don't know it.
My heart when Kolya chops off Sheppard's hand.
😭😭😭
What is Sheppard running away from? His empty life on earth?
Kolya accused Sheppard of being easy to break, but he didn't break. They had to cut his freaking hand off. This is just another echo in Sheppard's own mind that he's not being strong enough for his people. All this was to find out what kind of people they are and see if they can be trusted. They need to keep Sheppard busy while they worked, and this horror is what Sheppard subconsciously chose.
Kolya: You torture yourself every day, John. But, in this case, it was your mind manifesting your deepest fears. You are the architect of your own self-deception.
😭😭😭The aliens apologize for what happened to Sheppard earning one of his "gee thanks" faces.
I love how, just like Doppelganger, this ends with Sheppard surrounded by friends. In light of this episode, the last really painful Sheppard episode is Vegas, the solitary man. Before Atlantis, Sheppard was very alone. I think he fears being alone again, but he's not. Rodney knows him so well, even down to the gum he likes. Then you have the final episode where Sheppard does literally save all of his remaining people with their help, as always. I know it's subtle, but ending with Sheppard and Company saving earth in a final huge battle is healing Sheppard. Yes, I wish they could have done more. A whole season of healing is what this character needed, but I'll take what I can get.
This may also be why I feel the need to rewatch this whole stupid show as soon as I finish it. I want to see Sheppard healed. But you start it over, and he gets broken all over. Really, he comes to Atlantis broken. Those soul-fractures get healed, and he gets broken in whole new ways. Why am I addicted to breaking characters???

this is not really anything but. gotta love how rodney-centric episodes will do something to his brain that’s going to end up killing him (tao of rodney, the shrine) and john-centric episodes put him in a strange place or time where he’s utterly cut off from the expedition and lonely (epiphany, the last man, remnants too if you want), and then in doppelganger john goes into rodney’s dream to save him from his own brain killing him and in turn rodney enters john’s dream so he’s not alone when he has to fight himself
