fashion breakdown under the cut bc i way overthought this lol

from left to right

aiden - i tried to have my references match the vibe of canon for the planet with all the kids but the most important additions imo were his flat cap and his "shoes". the flat cap was because ford wore that ballcap of his so often he looked weird without it, and i once again felt it matched the vibe. the barefoot covers were based off acrobat covers because i refuse to believe that feral forest children who climbed trees for a living wore real shoes.

teyla - i felt like taking one of her canon outfits was cheating in a way??? so when i saw a sweater shawl in my references it screamed teyla to me. the satchel belt was embarrassingly an afterthought when i realised she was the only one without any pockets 😅

elizabeth - i pulled the colours from her usual outfits and uniform because she looks so good in red 😍

john - this was really hard! and also the only one where my references were screencaps from canon. i mixed Ronan's tunic shirt, holsters, and blaster with John's cloister outfit from epiphany

rodney - we really only see the genii in either uniform or farm garb, but i know there has to be a secret third fashion. because the technology mirrors 1940s allied nations, i went with 1940s men's fashion. his tie is pulled from his uniform patch

radek - same as rodney but i went with a different reference lol but his sweater is pulled from the uniform undershirt he always wears

carson - hoffans seem to wear a lot of 1918 three piece suits, so i took inspo from a bunch of different suits to get one i really liked. his undershirt is the same powder blue as the shirt he wears under his uniform (bc i wasnt liking the yellow of his uniform patches 😅)

I don't think it was ever said what province Rodney was from, so my prompt is: What would be the funniest place in Canada for Rodney to be from?

okay so while i do fundamentally believe rodney is from alberta it's HILARIOUS to think about what rodney would be like if he was from other provinces and quite frankly all the options are good (imagine how much more of an asshole he'd be if he was from ontario 😭😭😭 or british columbia omg stoner mckay) and i think the two best options boil down to either manitoba or newfoundland and labrador

newfie rodney would be so fucking funny the accent alone is enough to make me cry laughing omg if you haven't heard the newfie accent please look it up and imagine rodney talking like that also he absolutely would joke about "upgrading to kissing whales" during/after grace under pressure also unrelated to anything but i think newfie rodney would love oatmeal raisin cookies (bc my papa did and he was newfie)

A bit of a video showcase for the gorgeous, gorgeous binding of Written by the Victors!!! @daemonluna typeset it and @rhipidurafan made this copy for me!! Things to notice--the absolutely gorgeous endpapers! The dyed blue edges! The different fonts--type for bibliography, and then, even more excitingly, later, different fonts for the poetry, the songs, the early and late Atlantian dialects segments. Absolutely beautiful. This sort of hand-made art just floors me; it's everything wonderful about fandom IMO!

TOP 10 TV SHOW FANDOMS ON AO3 BASED ON NUMBER OF FANWORKS, SINGLE CATEGORY VERSION (2009-2022)

To make these bar chart race, all series titles in the TV Show Category on November 29 (or the closest date to it) of every year were copy-pasted from Wayback Machine to Google Sheets, rearranged according to number of fanworks, manually filtered for fandoms belonging in only one category and then inputted to Flourish to turn into a bar chart race.

Locked fanworks aren't included in the count because Wayback Machine can’t view those, only Ao3 users can.

Jossverse was in the top 10 from 2010-2017 (Top 2 in 2010 and 2011). In 2018, it was removed from the TV Show fandom list and works tagged with it show up in Buffy the Vampire Slayer (TV) instead so I’ve excluded it from the bar chart.

ETA: About Doctor Who: Doctor Who actually has 2 tags with ranked higher (Higher than Doctor Who (2005) even) on the list. That’s why it still turned up in this list. This might just be a lack of tagging its other categories (like Books & Literature) on AO3, however. Now that I checked its subtags, it actually had at least 2 Book & Literature only subtags: Stargate Atlantis: Legacy Series - Various Authors and Stargate SG-1 - Various Authors. Version 3 of the fic I bound for the Renegade Bindery gift exchange! (you can see speranza and @gempothospress's versions here)

I had a lot of fun typesetting this--I took the epitaph motif from the section titles and ran with it. I have never seen any form of Stargate, so thanks to cesperanza and @annerbhp for consulting. Other things I hadn't done before making these three books: cover cutouts, or foil.

"I don't know much about Stargate," said I, "so I'll just put a Stargate on the cover. Should be pretty straightforward." I then proceeded to learn that foil quills were not my friend, that the cricut foil head was finicky as hell (it works beautifully on bookcloth-- but not on leather or buckram,) and in the case of this particular edition, remember too late that unlike leather and buckram, you cannot wipe glue off bookcloth with water. I think I might start taping wax paper over my covers when I'm casing in so that I stop having this problem.

That being said, both the foil and the cutouts were kind of addicting. So I might end up sneaking them into more books where they may or may not belong.
