Countdown Day 1: Digimental switch up!

So for my first piece for @digimon02countdown I wanted to do something about some of the untapped potential for the digimentals/eggs. I love the fact that mixing and matching the eggs can produce completely different digimon and I think it's a shame that it wasn't explored more in the series. I was originally going to do the lineup from the Valentine's audio drama; but I thought highlighting some of my favourite unseen combinations would be more fun! So here's another scenario where everyone had to switch up their digimentals!Since it might not be apparent who is who (from viewer's left-to-right) :

Veemon + Light = Gargoylemon

Armadillomon + Hope = Sheepmon

Hawkmon + Knowledge = Flybeemon

Patamon + Sincerity = Ponchomon

On the Vital Bracelet Raid Hub discord server I'm in, a user named S.A.K. decided to take a shot at designing an Armor Evolution from Wormmon to replace Pucchiemon with something that follows Flamedramon's or Shadramon's design philosophy more (An underdeveloped version of their Champion Form but with armor themed after their Digimental.) christening it "FleurBeemon!"

I loved the design so much I wanted to draw it! The sketch had been hanging around my tablet for the better part of a month cuz life gets so busy when winter ends, so I wanted to get it finished before it ended up in the pile of wips I never finish lol.

I love Stingmon but Ken having a tinier pink armored stingmon who is the guardian of kindness would be so cute!

EX-03 Mess ups: Flamedramon

The first of its [When Digivolving] effects reads:

You may digivolve 1 of your other Digimon into a level 4 purple Digimon card with [Free] in its traits from you trash for its play cost.

The "play cost" should be digivolve cost.

On Shadramon it says "digivolution cost". They are inconsistent with the terms "digivolve cost" and "digivolution cost" on the card though.

Things... Didn't come out as planned.

Nothing particularly bad happened to any of us, don't get me wrong, all my digimon are ok and Sophie and Bit are too, but, as we were getting deep into the forest, we got attacked by a Shadramon, another armor digimon, it used its move, Psychic Wave, to immobilize Sophie and attack her, tho, naturally, MegaloGrowmon flew to the rescue and used the Assault Balancer to retrieve Sophie from Shadramon's claws.

After seeing this, Bit activated the Digimental Of Purity, allowing Sophie to evolve into Yaksamon, throwing herself into the fight using Ittouryoudan, on its second posture, creating a glowing blade by merging the two Bokutō she carries, forcing Shadramon to flinch and using Kugutsu No Jutsu on it, turning it into a puppet, and forcing it into telling us where the Dark Towers came from.

Aaaaand that's where my knowledge ends, because the communication suddenly got cut thanks to a blackout that happened on my end thanks to a storm I didn't realize was happening. As soon as the lights turned off, I called Bit and instructed her to get out, since, even with Sophie having evolved into Yaksamon, further exploring could lead into finding a Perfect level digimon, and that would be dangerous without more experienced digimon alongside them.

Thanks to the blackout too, I had to ask Bit to take care of MegaloGrowmon, Kuzuhamon and Spinomon, since I wouldn't be able to receive them, right now, electricity came back and I was able to get my digimon back, I'll ask them how their little sleepover went later, and probably tomorrow I'll be going back to the Sneyato Forest with Bit, this time with an actual target, since Bit DID got to hear what Shadramon had to say, so remember that even if there's a blackout, I'll keep you updated!

what’s your opinion on how the digieggs/mentals work on a literal standpoint.

i like to think it’s like a heavily compressed .zip file that only certain digimon can unzip.

(i also have theories on why there’s so many armor digimon in later seasons without the eggs)

Oh um... I just realized the page for them on Wikimon got a big update with new info i didn't hear about before!

So, here's some details that might explain things!

The technology of Digimentals of the Armor Evolution variety was developed in the ancient Digital World. As a way to compensate for their limited evolution options and limited likelihood of ever evolving otherwise,[2] Ancient Species Digimon significantly powered up their own abilities by borrowing the power of the Digimentals, fusing with them in a process known as Digimental Up 「デジメンタルアップ」.[3] The result is the "pseudo-evolutionary"[4] process of Armor Evolution into an Armor Digimon.

Apparently, the Armor Evolution Digimentals were based on data that was accidentally left behind upon the death of a Digimon who strongly exhibited the trait of the Crest represented on the Digimental. For instance, the Digimental of Courage was based on the data of a highly courageous Digimon.[2]

As time has passed, the technology of Digimentals has become lost to history,[2] and the remaining Digimentals are few in number. These Digimentals have been sealed away, together with surviving Ancient Species Digimon, in preparation for a crisis in the Digital World.[3]

There are affinities between individual Digimon and Digimentals, and matching in compatibility is important for evolution outcomes. If a Digimon is forced to use a Digimental against its will, the Digimental's power will have an adverse reaction and run wild;[2][3] for example, Shadramon is the result of an adverse reaction to the Digimental of Courage which has turned it into a malevolent Digimon.[5] Good affinity between a Digimon and Digimental results in an Armor Digimon with higher power, and it is said that if they have perfect compatibility with each other, then the resulting Digimon will even be able to express Ultimate-class power.[2][3]

Also, why there's a ton of Armor mons around without them through Digimon media...

Digimentals are not the only means by which a Digimon may evolve into an Armor Digimon species.

Besides those info, I suppose a Digimental can evolve more than one Digimon, but this is like, some wild theory... I mean, i didn't see any info saying you *can't* use it to evolve more than one digimon at the same time??
