“Percy fell first” “annabeth fell first”
they fell in love at the same time, but annabeth knew right away that she was done for, whereas percy woke up 2 years later like “damn that’s what that is…”

the abuse Annabeth faced at home was severely downplayed imo. Her stepmother acted all nice and caring to Percy in TTC, but it heavily contradicts what Annabeth has said about her. I mean, it could've easily been that Mrs chase was just putting on an act in front of her stepdaughter's friends right? Her neglectfullness must've been pretty bad if it caused a literal seven year old to run away. Her stepmom practically yelled at annabeth simply because the poor kid was afraid of spiders just like any other kid would be. A part of me feels like she did a lot worse, considering that Annabeth doesn't seem to have a relationship with either of her step siblings. Maybe mrs chase deliberately kept them away from her? Idk. I just don't see how she would randomly start caring for annabeth after all these years. The facts just don't add up.
And Annabeth isn't exactly one to lie about things for pity points. I just kinda wished her abuse wasn't so watered down and the books made it seem like she was exaggerating for sympathy. I needed closure for that tbh. I wanted an apology for annabeth from both her dad and her step mom. That's like the bare minimum she didn't even recieve. I don't really know what rick was going for here.

sometimes. i just have to remind myself that percy took annabeth to paris. like, canonically. he forgot their one-month anniversary. and took his girl to paris to make up for it. the standards are in elysium.

"the way they killed medusa was stupid" "using the hat to kill medusa was dumb" that's because this show isn't written for action and blood and gore its written for STORYTELLERS ofc the "fight with medusa" wasn't epic and bloody that would defeat the whole point INSTEAD it was symbolic and set up narrative arcs. it was annabeth passing on the invisibility her mother cursed her with to a woman who was cursed never to be seen. it was paralleling the original perseus myth where he uses the helm of darkness alongside his shield and shoes from athena and hermes. it was setting up the conflict between percy and annabeth about giving up the hat and making annabeth suffer an emotional loss to go on with the quest versus imposing the consequences of medusa's story and tragedy on the gods themselves.
imagine watching a scene where annabeth increasingly gets defensive and 12-year-old lashing out with "but my mother is always just" "that isn't how the story goes" and "you're a LIAR" imagine watching the air go out of the room as "i'm a survivor" "i was you" "i would have been content to worship her for a lifetime... in silence" medusa breaks her calm demeanor at having her story erased once more imagine watching annabeth appear out of nowhere and make medusa disappear with the powers that athena granted her so that a son of poseidon can murder her and your main thought being "awwwww but i wanted it to be more epicccccc i wanted blood and gore and decapitationnnnnn" imagine missing the whole point of the entire percy jackson series that bad

“Why would Hephaestus build an amusement park”
“Maybe he finds them amusing”
“That’s not funny annabeth”
“It’s a little funny”
Can I talk about this for a sec because the 140 characters twitter gave me wasn’t enough when I talked about this there. Yall. This scene. The episode itself was amazing and every scene hit but this scene.
She made a joke!!! She’s using humor to cope w a serious and possibly fatal situation!!! Not only is she getting more comfortable and dare I say friendly!!! But she’s slowly starting to pick up Percy’s habits THE WAY BEST FRIENDS WOULD. Using humor to distract someone from a bad situation?? And annabeth doesn’t joke about the mission yall BUT SHE DID HERE TO KEEP PERCY FROM PANICKING. Because he absolutely was panicking and walker did an amazing fucking job of portraying that (just like he did in medusas basement).
I can’t get over it you guys the small and subtle ways they’re building these characters development is just as good as the bigger more obvious ones and I just. Love this show. So much.

my favorite thing is tumblr shadowblocking pjo from the trending list because it’s been trending since before the show came out (it’s been probably over 2 weeks now) BUT LEAH IS TRENDING AS A PSEUDO-REPLACEMENT FOR THE PJO TAG
New Challenge, each week we get a different member of the cast to the trending page

Honestly, it is so funny remembering that Annabeth Chase's literal, stated, canonical fatal flaw is hubris.
Rick Riordan was like, "This clever, neurodivergent preteen girl believes that she is smarter than the gods, and she will get the chance to prove herself right," and he was correct. 😌
