The Most Powerful Hack to Make Your Readers Cry
You’ve seen it all: show, don’t tell, plant a visceral image in the reader’s brain of the environment/character, write a complex character arc with lots of growth and setbacks, establish deep relationships, high stakes, etc.
All the advice for making readers cry I’ve seen so far is basically that list. But, while those things are absolutely important, I find that the thing that always does the trick, whether as a tipping point or in and of itself, is this:
THE CALLBACK!
Before we move on, this is an ANALYSIS heavy post, so all the book + show examples contain spoilers!!
So, what do I mean by a “callback?” Think of Chekhov’s gun, but, here, you use the gun to pierce your reader’s heart. As a refresher for anyone who needs it, Chekhov’s gun is just a rule in writing that anything you introduce in the book should play some role in the plot.
Specifically, the name comes from the example that if a reader introduces a gun in the first act, it MUST go off later, (maybe, say, in the third act). For example, in the TV show Breaking Bad, the protagonist Walter White prepares a vial of poison (ricin) that he wanted to use to eliminate an opponent early on in the series. After the assassination attempt falls through, the ricin makes an appearance again in the very last episode of the show, when Walt finally uses it to kill another opponent.
Got that? Alright, onto the examples of successful, tearjerking callbacks:
1. The Last Olympian (Rick Riordan); “Family, Luke, you promised.”
Context: The character Annabeth says this line. Years ago, Annabeth had run away from home, and Luke had effectively adopted her into a found family with another kid named Thalia. Common reason for leaving home = parental trauma! Yay! He promised Annabeth that they would be each other’s “family” from now on.
Now: Kronos, the antagonist titan, has possessed the demigod Luke and uses his body to strike Annabeth, injuring her. She’s also holding a dagger that Luke had given her when she joined his “family.”
Significance: her words + the dagger are a mental + physical reminder to Luke of his promise. They force him to recognize the sheer degree of his current betrayal by bringing him back to a different time. The fact that their found family only happened because of parental trauma bringing them together makes it worse—Luke felt abandoned by his Olympian father, Hermes. Now, he realizes that he basically did the equivalent to Annabeth by joining the titans.
2. Les Miserables (Victor Hugo); Jean Valjean’s death
Context:  At the beginning of the book, the bishop had caught Valjean trying to steal candlesticks to sell. Instead of handing him over to the police, the bishop told the police that he had given them to Valjean, saving him from arrest and showing him mercy. This changed his life forever, kickstarting his character redemption arc.
Now: Jean Valjean dies surrounded by his loved ones, remembered as a benevolent man who bettered thousands of lives. He’s surrounded by light from candlesticks that once belonged to a bishop.
Context: Valjean had once taken in an impoverished woman named Fantine, showing her mercy and promising to take care of her daughter, Cosette, after Fantine died. Valjean then rescued Cosette from abusive quasi-foster parents (it’s a long story), raising her as his own daughter. This furthered his arc by allowing him to finally understand how unconditionally loving someone feels.
Now: Valjean describes Fantine to Cosette, who never knew her mother.
Significance: Both examples throw readers back to much earlier points in the story before the completion of Valjean’s character arc. In a way, this final scene feels like an external manifestation of his kindness paying off; both he and the reader feels a sense of accomplishment, relief, and just a general “OMG WE MADE IT.” Readers don’t feel cheated, because they were with Valjean every step of his 1,400 page arc. The weight of it all just crashes down on you...
3. Your Lie in April (anime); Kaori’s letter after she dies
Context: Kaori’s entire plot significance is that she helps Kousei, a piano prodigy who can’t play piano anymore due to traumatic parental memories associated with it, play again—but also, just to help him enjoy life again after a turbulent upbringing. She meets him a year before she dies of a medical condition, and her free spirit + confidence influences him to find beauty in life and music again. They basically do a crap ton of crazy funny stuff together lol
Now: Kaori has died, and she leaves a letter to him. Among other general confessions and thoughts, she references things they did and memories they shared: she says, “sorry we couldn’t eat all those canelés,” reminisces about  jumping with him off a small bridge into the stream below, “racing each other alongside the train,” singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star as they rode the bike together, etc.
Significance: Yes, the nature of the letter is just sad because she’s revealing that she loved him all along, apologizing for not being able to spend more time with him, lying that she didn’t like him (to spare his feelings b/c she knew she would die soon), etc. BUT, these small details highlight exactly how many experiences they shared, and the depth of their relationship. Thus, they emphasize the significance of her death and the emptiness it leaves behind.
4. Arcane (show); “I thought, maybe you could love me like you used to, even though I’m different.”
Context: Character Jinx says this in the last episode to her now estranged older sister, Vi. Without going into the crazy complex plot, basically, orphans Vi and Jinx used to care for each other before a bunch of crap went down that got them separated. They then grew up on opposite political sides; Jinx grows up on the side of the underbelly city rebellion, and Vi grows up working on the side of the richer city that essentially oppresses the undercity. Thus begins the development of their opposing viewpoints and work environments, to the point where they always meet on opposite sides of a political battle, never able to come together as a family or understand each other again.
Now: After a super dramatic confrontation, Jinx reveals that although she wants Vi to love her like she did before their separation, she knows it’s not possible because “[Vi] changed too.” She finishes with, “so, here’s to the new us” before blowing up a political council meeting a few blocks down filled with people Vi sides with. Oops! This cleanly seals the fate of their relationship as something basically irreparable.
Significance: This callback isn’t through literal flashbacks or items like in the previous examples. Jinx’ lines are enough to bring back images of their childhood to the audience’s mind. Now, the audience subconsciously places this image of: 1) two sisters so different, hurt, and torn apart, right next to 2) the image of two sisters as innocent children who loved each other and would care for each other no matter what.
Why do callbacks work so well?
If you’ve noticed something in common with all of them, you’re right: they remind audience of a time BEFORE the characters have come so far on their arcs, developed, and put on so much more emotional baggage.
Callbacks force the audience to SUDDENLY and IMMEDIATELY feel the weight of everything that’s happened. The character’s anguish and overwhelming emotions become the audience’s in this moment. Callbacks are a vehicle for the juxtaposition of worlds, before and after significant development.
This works because we, as mortals, fear IMPERMANENCE the most. We fear LOSS. For us, time gone is time we will never get back; callbacks make us face that exact fact through a fictional character. A lost moment, time period, or even part of oneself may hurt as much as losing a loved one, and nothing makes humans grieve more than the realization of a loss. A callback slaps the audience in the face with the fact that something was lost; loss hurts so much because almost 99% of the time, what’s gone is gone forever.
Of course, a good callback requires good previous character development, stakes, imagery, and all that jazz, but I thought I’d highlight this specifically because of how under covered it is.

I’ve been binging general media lately: I finished Death Note, Your Lie in April, and Tokyo Ghoul all within like a month (FIRST ANIMES I”VE EVER WATCHED!!), reread lots of Les Miserables, analyzed a bunch of past shows like Breaking Bad, watched a bunch of My Little Pony, worked to fix up my old writing... and that’s not even all! The amount of times I’ve CRIED while enjoying the above media and so much more honestly just inspired this post.
Like, no joke, my eyes were almost always swollen during this period whenever I hung out with my friends and it was so embarrassing help
Personally, I just find that this method works super well for me, and I watched a bunch of reaction videos to these above scenes (and read book reviews on the book scenes I mentioned), and it seemed that just about everyone cried during these parts. That’s when I realizes that the callback might also just be a universal thing.
Anyway, this post is long and dense enough as is. SORRY! As always, hope this was helpful, and let me know if you have any questions by commenting, re-blogging, or DMing me on IG. Any and all engagement is appreciated <3333
Happy writing, and have a great day,
- grace <3

JATP Season 2 Wishlist
that i wrote in my notes app back in:
Tumblr media
and realized i never posted it here? tbf i'm rarely on tumblr. but because i really miss them rn i want to share my ✨ brainrot ✨ that i had back when i thought they were getting a renewal.
Carrie Wilson
she was my biggest flaw in Season 1. I wish her "redemption arc" is fleshed out more in Season 2; give her either more context & backstory to validate her reason for unnecessarily antagonizing Julie, or screentime to properly address how she's just projecting an emotion completely different into bitterness and anger into Julie's recovery
show particularly her earlier dynamic w/ Flynn and Julie? Maybe as Flynn calls her out, we'd get flashback glimpses prior to Rose's death (maybe even Double Trouble temporarily being Triple Threat 👉🏽👈🏽)
for some reason i'm picturing a scene where she's in her dance studio (she has one in their mansion, of course) practicing some of her Dirty Candy routine when she keeps messing up and not in the right mindset to keep dancing. i feel like the best (maybe easiest but whatever) way to guide the audience into her artist mind is to make her be a perfectionist. in frustration, she blows up for a minute before slumping onto the ground and reminisces her fun times with Julie & Flynn
also when you have her develop, please don't make her lose her femininity and the bubblegum pop music, it's great
Old Songs Resurfacing
it'll prove how detailed & thorough you are as a screenwriter if you pay off the songs mentioned in Season 1 in passing to be actual songs in Season 2
Unreleased: Get Lost, Long Weekend, Crooked Teeth, My Name is Luke, and if that riff from the scene in EP. 5 that spurred on the Bobby reveal isn't from one of these songs, add that too
Demo Album: Late Last Night, Lakeside Reflection, In Your Starlight
Willex
imagine your queer couple gets to have their first kiss first than your het main couple, not only will that settle Madi & Charlie's statements about being uncomfortable in doing a kissing scene and maintaining the priority of Juke's emotional over physical relationship, it would also make an powerful statement
Reggie's Character Arc
i know that he initially had an arc that involved a romance with Flynn but because of the ages of who they casted, they scrapped it and didn't have time to rewrite the scripts for him as filming neared, so they have time to adapt to how jeremy portrayed him for season 2: a lovable dork who craves familial love
since there's a possibility that lifers can now see the boys, maybe some found family trope for Reggie and Ray Molina?
he has pretty much formed a parasocial relationship with him at this point
so why not instead of a love interest, Reggie can have his character arc develop & we see his family before thru flashbacks and paralleling those in the current times because he sees Ray as a father figure
picture this: it's raining, Bobby opens the garage door to the sound of knocking, the boys find Reggie soaking wet and out of breath when he tries to say he doesn't know where else to go then the boys immediately figure out another fight in the Peters household happened. Reggie tries to talk again when Alex (because even though they're the airhead-sarcastic duo, they know they love each other) runs up to hug him and tells the other he doesn't have to say anything
cut to a freshly showered Reggie, quietly watching tv with Bobby, Luke, and Alex in the garage, eating whatever
also a solo acoustic country song, pls. just to make him happy
The Aftermath of the Deaths
for both the boys and Rose
we get parallels about how Bobby dealt with trauma and grief to Julie
like, the reason why the clothes are still in there (are to have costume changes for the boys) is because Bobby immediately moved out of the house (therefore also the garage) and left the clothes there because he couldn't bear to burn it, or visit the boys' houses to break the news to their families and return the clothes, or donate it somewhere so he just...left it. it would make for a more solid reason (for costume changes) and an emotional context as to how Bobby really tried to forget them because it was "easier."
it would also make sense why Carrie and Julie ended up friends. Rose probably was there for Bobby when they discovered what happened at the alleyway, so they stayed friends over the years and had their respective families but still kept in touch, (bonus points if absolutely nothing romantic happened between them! yay to normalizing platonic male-female relationships) and why Rose would immediately think of Bobby's three late bandmates to send for Julie when she was on her deathbed
Bobby never really "moved on" (because grief is a really complex thing). it's showed that he has a therapist and everything, and this could definitely have some aftereffects on his daughter. Carrie growing up seeing her father be this amazing rockstar but a negligent father and only showing love in ways she doesn't need (like riches and fame and connections to the music industry) because he's actually a really lonely man on the inside and no one can see that except for Bobby's spouse and Carrie. it'd explain why Carrie is spoiled, and other negative character traits that Carrie has on the surface
it's even why Bobby changed his name to Trevor: 1) Bobby is so closely associated to Sunset Curve and it's an absolute pain to be reminded of that every day, 2) it's a stage name and artists really do get that
More Worldbuilding
they already had some pretty creative concepts/ideas in the first season, so why not expand/expound on them a bit more
the instruments are attached to their souls that's why the boys at first can only touch them, like how Willie's skateboard and helmet are attached to him
which is why when they attach themselves to the world of the present, they gather up energy and focus on touching tangible things like the picture frame
this may follow the logic toward the end where they are finally able to touch Julie because she has become attached to their souls. emotionally.
More Creative Collaboration
i believe in the principle that when a story is finally released/published/told to the world, the world shares it. this is also visible in film/tv where when the scripts are finished and actors receive them, the story becomes part of theirs to work on. which means that they have some sort of autonomy over their characters' motivations, a chance to be heard of their ideas and pitches, and why some certain scenes wouldn't work, etc etc. it doesn't just become the director's story nor the screenwriters'.
the actors' ideas such as Perfect Harmony and their solos from Nothing to Lose are great because they let them in. they took risks, and it paid off incredibly well. more of that please. have them be a part of the writing process, (also the story), but never forget what made the music production great in the first place. be coherent and don't be like others that let too many hands work on one piece—it will lose its sound, its identity.
Julie Knowing
that Nick is possessed by Caleb. ohmygOD. hear me out.
the same S1 ending will play somewhere in 2x01, but it will be revealed that Julie was watching through the window the entire time and when she opens the door to receive the flowers, that last look she gives him is actually her scheming.
determined to get Nick back, imagine The Promised Neverland's level of mindgames Julie could play with Caleb because we already know our girl's smart
Free Willie Willie's Freedom
since the boys feel indebted to Willie's help, they insist on helping him too with getting rid of Caleb's stamp
maybe through his connection with Alex? or maybe Willie's family or friends who are still lifers (which is unlikely but either way). he needs to be saved !!
Song Sequences Ideas
juke counter melody duet like Rini's "Even When/The Best Part," Shane & Mitchie's "Wouldn't Change a Thing," or dodie & Jon Cozart's "a love song/a non love song"
emotional carrie ballad paired with lyrical hiphop choreo
willex song - i absolutely have no idea where this could go directionally but maybe alex on an acoustic guitar with a really soft sweet tune
reprises of S1 songs but in the complete opposite of their original style (the fandom's lonelier All Eyes on Me version, i see u)
nick guitar solo - just because Sacha actually plays, idk how it'd fit in to the plot yet but hey
Nothing to Lose (Reprise) - back in the '90s, a producer manipulates Bobby to sign a record deal to become a star but on one condition: disassociate himself with Sunset Curve, to which he first declines until he slowly gets persuaded. (sort of like Todrick Hall's So Lucky to Be You meets Lyn Lapid's Producer Man)
"So how about it, Bobby Shaw? Do we have a deal?"
"Trevor."
"I'm sorry?"
"Call me Trevor Wilson."
i'm pretty sure someone made an animatic with this idea too but i cannot for the life of me find it !!
7. Season 2 starts the same way as Season 1 does before the opening song plays
Black screen that reads a text "Hollywood 1995"
a pan down to the Orpheum's overhead sign that reads "SUNSET CURVE SOLD OUT"
cut to the interior with Rose finishing up her cleaning when a stage manager calls out: "Sunset Curve!" to which Bobby abruptly stops his pacing back and forth to look up. he and Rose look at each other. music swells until...
cut to him running onto the alleyway, "are they still not finished eating? those gluttons are dead to me i swear—" he cuts off his own words when he sees the boys getting dragged onto stretchers. but we, the audience, don't see it. just a close up of bobby as the ambulance lights reflects his face. rose comes up behind him, still clutching their t-shirt.
[i honestly have no idea if Bobby should get on stage because it just proves Luke's theory of The Orpheum's opening bands eventually becoming big & successful so it'll explain the Trevor Wilson fame even though at first he only did it for the boys, or if he shouldn't because according to the article Julie googled he ran away immediately after they were pronounced in the scene] but either way, this is how the opening starts.
then it progresses to Rose and Bobby respectively having children so they could parallel each other blah blah
8. Julie plays a simple song on the piano while the guys watch her in awe
Storytelling through Props
let's dive deep into Rose's luggage/suitcase and use the props to head for Julie's emotional attachment with them
they already did it with the wardrobe: Rose wears the black leather vest in the pilot while Julie wears the same thing in EP 6
add depth to the characters' relationships like us finding out Julie's multilayered necklace is actually a gift from Carrie or something
SOYON ANN YOU'RE A GIFT FROM GOD. Bobby's necklace is present in both young and old!him
**Rose in flashback scenes should be wearing clothes we've already seen Julie in Season 1 just for greater effect.
The Bobby Conflict
definitely needs to be brought up again by Season 2; they only discarded somewhere in the middle because more pressing matters like the boys' existence blipping away was pushed to the forefront of the story
however, The Bobby Conflict changes. it'll be cleared up that he was offered a record deal as a solo artist by a manipulative producer. and given that the poor boy is only 17 (too, maybe), he agrees. what he doesn't know is the contract's fine print: giving up Sunset Curve's royalties
that information clears it up to the audience and the band, so the conflict becomes this: Bobby's Survivor's Guilt. god wouldn't that be so good tackling that in a kids'/family show.

this episode is legit making me cry, it’s so hopeful and heartfelt and rewarding and happy and i’m not surprised coming from dave filoni, but it’s so rare these days with tv shows and i feel like it’s also dave giving an end to his mandalorian arc started from the clone wars. a united people, working to rebuild everything they’ve taken for granted and destroyed for so long, it’s such a good “redemption arc” for the mandalorians as a whole, after so many have suffered not only because of the empire but because of each others. and then din and grogu, s2′s ending is NOTHING compared to this one, they deserve every bit of happiness they can gather. grogu feels safe and happy, at home and at ease, building himself again after all the trauma he’s been through and wandering around, lost and alone in the galaxy after order 66. the way him and din were so alone and that’s why they connected so much, and how finding a place among the mandalorians people allowed them to find a place with each other as well and accept what they were to each other i mean- this is everything dave filoni always said star wars should be about. love, hope, father and son. no power in the galaxy would equate a moment of joy and completion with your child. this is what luke and anakin fought for against the emperor at the end of rotj. and this is why, dave filoni will never write anything wrong in the star wars universe. he is the star wars’ goat.

Sunday April 7
hehe hi,
I recently rewatched Mtvs Awkward and remembered how much I loved having a little blog when I was 13. I got lonely tonight and had so many thoughts and I was distraught when I have no one to throw my thoughts at. So here I am typing to the void of the internet. This little blog is just gonna be a collection of thoughts classic diary style! I just wanna be able to post little entries of the different thoughts. I know it must be somewhat of a common experience for us ex Tumblr girlies that miss that random connection with people you don't know that have the same interest as you. I also just have so many fun sexy stories to tell and no one to tell them too.
lets dive in
starting with music
I am listening to The Last Dinner Party and I just am feeling the energy I felt when I watched YellowJackets. Is this a shared experience??? dying to know.I just listened to the Prelude to Ecstasy I really enjoyed it and will have more thoughts once I give it a second listen through. I yearn to have friends who watch and listen to the exact things I listen to. I want to be able to discuss these things! -- Chappell Roan is my everything and I just can not stop listening to her. I adore what she has to offer to the world of pop.-- I just now realized how much Luke Bryan I listened to in my first country phase. Like DAmn this man had a lot of bangers on the Crash My Party Album.
Lets talk tv bitches
the invincible season final had me gagged. I couldn't speak and that is rare for me. I am a chatter box but I did not have words! wow! from what I have been reading on twitter I should read the comic for all the extra context and action. I am very excited for the next season and hope it comes at least in the next year.
The Real shit
Fuck y'all. I finally got out of the two month long hookup drought. y'all I am baffled by the audacity of men. I am aware its not too surprising but god damnit!!!!!!!! This was supposed to be my redemption arc but I am very discouraged. Over the weekend I had two suitors (both from the dating apps) boy #1 had the stamina of a fucking horse on steroids. that being said there was no foreplay! but I was touch starved that I didn't give a fuck! lmao. so we go FOUR rounds. He gets off every time and I got off slightly once. The whole experience was just not uncomfortable in a non consent way but in a way it was just not my cup of tea. I am down to try everything once and this showed me I don't love or hate my toes being sucked on. wtf! I am a socks during sex type of girly and it kinda through me off guard but it wasn't the craziest part of this experience. This man fully used his jizz as a massage oil on my back and I was so taken a back! he asked me "has anyone ever done that before" my befuddled self just said No?!?! lmao! its so silly I wasn't that grossed out by it I was planning on taking a shower after he left but like what? I'm not gonna yuck someones yum but I didn't know that was a thing???? Okay boy #2 we have been talking on the snapchat for a while and went for drinks awhile back. The talks over snap have gotten spicy a couple times and we were both pretty excited to get together in person. I was excited because this man talked up his game in a very believable and respectable way. It was SO awkward and I know I am a silly person but usually I can keep a conversation going. That was not the case. So at a very random point in conversation he kisses me and It was just not good and that's a terrible start! like whaaaaaat where are your lips! You are just giving me your tongue and do not get me wrong I love a good French kiss but let me feel your lips first! so things start and I end up getting this man off two times in 15 minutes at the most. the entire experience from kissing to his double completion was 25 minutes. Which would be fine if he would of taken the time to get me off like he said he would in these past two weeks of snapchat. He is now distant and I have a feeling its because he knows he didn't provide anything exciting for me. Dating is so damn hard. The thing is I don't even want a boyfriend. I could be a perfect FWB for some very lucky attractive sex god but I can't find him!! I stupidly thought moving to the big apple would provide a better pond but damn its just not going well. That being said I'm gonna keep on trying for the plot because although its bad sex its funny stories. one day I will find a sexy person to have fun casual sex with on a regular basis. that's not too much too ask for! this is getting messy lmao its late I'm wine tipsy. haha goodnight whores xox

Star Wars & Redemption
One of the things I love about Star War is that redemption is not only a big part of the saga, but one of the major themes. It’s especially interesting when you compare it to most other fictional works, be it other movies, tv shows, novels, or plays. Most works of fiction don’t even address the idea of redemption for their villains. Instead, the heroes have to defeat the villain. Sometimes that takes the form of them capturing the villain and putting them behind bars. But more often than not, it’s about the heroes killing them. You rarely see a story where killing the villain isn’t the answer, but saving them is.
And even when redemption is on the table, it’s almost never about the heroes seeking to save the villain from themselves, but rather something that just happens without their involvement. Star Wars is not that way. In the original trilogy, we got Luke telling Obi-wan and Yoda that he can’t kill his own father and then going to meet him to try and save him. In the sequels, we get Han going to Ben to try and get him to come home. To try and save him. Leia and Rey too at various times try to save Ben.
The sequels also does something else that I think is truly unique: it shows us that  Ben’s redemption isn’t just something that needed to happen for the sake of the heroes, but for Ben himself. In The Force Awakens, he tells Han that he’s being torn apart. His internal struggle, his desire to stay on the path to the Dark Side, while still being drawn to the light, is hurting him. I’ve said this before elsewhere, but staying on the path to darkness is not doing Ben any good. He needed to get off that path, needed redemption for his own well being. I can’t think of another store that shows that so well. Redemption is something needed for the individual, not just for those around them.
Where the sequel trilogy fails is that it denied Ben the opportunity to actually try and make amends to those he wronged. Instead it pushes the “redemption equals death” narrative, a trope I’ve recently come to realize is in a lot of places and I think is wrong and harmful. I would say this is a fault of Star Wars as a whole, if it weren’t for Star Wars Rebels, which features an amazing redemption arc and actually allows the redeemed character to live and make amends. So Star Wars knows how to pull off a satisfying redemption on the small screen. They just need to translate that onto the big screen.
I think part of the problem is that redemption is the exception in story telling, not the norm. As I said earlier, most stories don’t even touch on the theme of redemption. So many people tend to overlook that Star Wars is different and thus go into it expecting, and even desiring, for our heroes to kill “the bad guy.” If more stories focused on saving their villains rather than killing them, perhaps the thought of Ben Solo dying just after redeeming himself without the chance to make amends would feel hollow to more people.

Not the same anon but do you think that Jaime and Theon will die in the books like they did in that mess of a tv show or do you think GRRM will do go a completely different route for both or at least one of their characters? I personally prefer redemption arcs where a character survives espeically those who was dealt a harsh hand in life.
I am with you in that I generally prefer characters to survive redemption arcs—but I also don’t think redemptive death is a bad trope when used well. It just tends to be overused and used cheaply (to avoid difficult questions about forgiveness and atonement and reconciliation) in modern western media. Everyone wants a Luke/Vader moment, but few writers actually explore what made that work.
I don’t think Jaime is getting out alive, nor Theon, but Theon has a better chance imo. I think Cersei’s prophecies make it clear Jaime will kill her to likely kill her in the chaos of King’s Landing, and Jaime will probably die there too because the whole city is going to go up in flames. But it won’t be a love story (ew), and it won’t be Jaime deciding he’s past redemption. It will be a tragedy. As for Theon, I can see him dying heroically in the war with the Others, but imo it’s better if he survives. I don’t think he should die before reuniting with the Starks.
The other thing about ASOIAF is that it’s super alchemical, which means it deals with the idea of death creating life. Death is not inherently a punishment in alchemical stories (think of Ned). Anyways I think these would not exactly be redemptive death either because imo both will have completed redemption arcs long before they die (they kind of already have made major strides) and issues like forgiveness and atonement will not be wiped away by their deaths—they’ll be addressed.

Hear me out.
I firmly believe that Clone Wars is a kids show - while there are certainly disturbing scenes that are somewhat graphic (and while it explores mature topics), it’s still written and animated in such a way that it’s watchable for kids aged around 9+, which was the age I was when I started watching it. I was younger when I watched the OT (the tape version), where Ben Kenobi dismembered an alien and it showed the severed arm (with blood), where Luke was battered and bruised and it showed, where Luke was mauled by a Wampa, where Luke got his hand cut off in full view by his father, where Han’s screams while he was being tortured was heard, where Leia was objectified and forced to be a slave before she strangled Jabba to death.
Now before you go “Shut up Annessarose, stop insulting it,” i’m not insulting the Clone Wars by calling it a kid’s show. You know what else is a kid’s show? Avatar: The Last Airbender. You know which TV show has one of the best character redemption arcs in television history? ATLA. You know which TV show explored extremely mature topics like genocide, propaganda, war, and child abuse? ATLA. You know which TV show has some of the most complex villains? ATLA. Calling a TV show that is designed as a kid’s show as it is does not devalue it. The Clone Wars is a kid’s show, and it’s a fucking brilliant one that I love watching as an adult and I’ll rewatch it and write fanfic about it as much as I want.

Atla has potential to be Harry Potter/Star wars level franchise if they have proper planning. If they made proper season four with Azula redemption in line with the themes of the show the franchise would become even more popular and unique because Azula is one of the most unique characters in any media. Don't know why creators are unable to see her potential! There is so much exploration of atla culture and history that can be done but is being completely wasted.*Le sigh*
Well, I agree and I disagree. I think the franchises you’re comparing Avatar to are good examples of the heights it could achieve, but their more modern entries are also good examples of what not to do. I mean, Harry Potter is pretty much on life-support at this point, with its latest movies being duds as far as blockbusters are considered. Star Wars movies were seeing steadily lowering return on investment, combined with everyone pretty much hating Solo and RoS, killing its own movie potential in favor of safer and blander TV entries. And how was that accomplished?
Well, yes, bad writing is the primary culprit.
(Some people might even say that lack of proper planning also played a part, but that’s never been necessary, IMO; George Lucas made up classic Star Wars as he went along, to the point where the first few drafts of ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ didn’t even have Darth Vader as Luke’s father. Planning is over-rated. The key, though, is if you’re not going to create a detailed plan, you have to have storytellers who are good at improvising.)
But I think what hastened the dreaded onset of Bad Writing for both Harry Potter and Star Wars is the same thing you’re talking about doing with Avatar- making the focus into one set of characters/bloodlines. Star Wars and Harry Potter wowed audiences, in their beginnings, by implying the existence of massive, fascinating settings. It felt like we could step into those worlds and live there, find new corners to explore where we could both bring our own lives into the fantasy but also experience something new.
Yet Star Wars keeps making movies about the same people, explaining where characters with full and satisfying arcs came from and where they go after the  arcs are done. I’ve only even seen the first Harry Potter movie and didn’t read any of the books, so I can’t speak from experience, but from what I’ve heard, the new movies have been slammed for throwing away their more unique aspects to become Wiki entries masquerading as prequels to the original storyline.
So would an Azula-centered sequel be cool if it was well-written? Sure.
But would it do much to expand the popularity of the franchise? Eh, probably not.
Anyone who would be impressed with a good story about Azula is probably already impressed by the first three seasons of Avatar, so this would just be more of the same. And there’s no guarantee that a continuation of Azula’s story would be good. I can’t help but notice that Aaron Ehasz has only spoken in the most general terms about his ideas for such a plotline, and he hasn’t connected it to any content for the main cast of AtLA. So a fourth season sounds more like a cash-in than something likely to be good.
What would expand Avatar into a powerhouse franchise, IMO? Exactly what they did with the Kyoshi novels- really expand the setting by taking advantage of its massive world and timeline. It’s made the notion of each Avatar having to deal with the fallout of the previous Avatar’s mistakes into a recurring theme that can drive all kinds of stories. And those books were told by a new storyteller to the franchise who brings a new -- but fitting -- style and perspective. But, of course, no one reads books, so they should do this with television and/or movies with great production values.
I mean, I can’t help but notice that Gene Yang, whose original graphic novels I love, can’t produce anything even halfway decent when he has to come up with ways to keep telling stories about Aang and Zuko. Maybe he’s just really bad at operating in settings he didn’t create, but I think he’s also crumbling under the pressure of trying to write authorized fanfic about characters whose story has already been told in full, expanded detail.
So yes, I think Avatar can be big. But I’d rather save the Azula Sequel for a smaller project, without the weight of the franchise riding on it, where a suitable author can scale things to what’s appropriate to the story and character. And there’s no need to rush it, either. I can wait for a few blockbuster animated movies to make Avatar into a prestige franchise that will have a better chance of attracting the right talent.

The Walking Dead Season 11: Who Lives and Who Dies
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
This Walking Dead article contains major spoilers.
Many of us thought this day would never come, but as all of The Walking Dead‘s characters know very well, everything that has a beginning has an end. Season 11 of AMC’s flagship zombie drama will be the show’s final run of episodes, but fortunately it’s an expanded season. Fans will get 24 more episodes, broken up into three parts, before the show — and a few of its characters — meets its end.
And it wouldn’t be a season of The Walking Dead without a few big deaths along the way. As we have in past seasons, we’ve made some predictions regarding who will bite the bullet in season 11. For the final time, here are the characters we think are on the chopping block and the ones we believe will live on to remember them after the credits roll on the series finale.
Keep track of all The Walking Dead season 11 deaths below:
DEAD
Roy (C. Thomas Howell)
Prediction: Dies
Result: Dead
Roy took an arrow to the face during a Reaper ambush.
Gage (Jackson Pace)
Prediction: Dies
Result: Dead
Gage stabbed himself in the chest twice, attempting to kill himself before being devoured by walkers in a train car. Zombie Gage was then put down with a shot to the head by Gabriel.
ALIVE
Pope (Ritchie Coster)
Prediction: Dies
I’ve never seen a guy more likely to die in the first half of a Walking Dead season than Pope, the leader of the show’s newest villains, the Reapers, who themselves strike me as filler villains for Maggie and Daryl while the real story at the Commonwealth develops. I assume the Reapers will be out of the picture by the time Alexandria needs to turn its attention to the much larger settlement in the second part of season 11.
Pamela Milton (Laila Robins)
Prediction: Dies
The Governor of the Commonwealth is poised to be the final season’s big bad. A bureaucrat hellbent on preserving the way things were before the zombie outbreak, Milton even established a caste system within her settlement to propagate class inequality. She represents everything that was wrong with the world before the fall of society and the complete anti-thesis of how the Alexandrians do things.
If you’ve read the comics, you know how Pamela’s story ends in Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard’s story, but the TV series is known for taking sharp left turns when you least expect it. One thing we know for sure is that the Alexandrians will have to reckon with Pamela’s rule before the series finale.
Lance Hornsby (Josh Hamilton)
Prediction: Dies
A Commonwealth acolyte and bookkeeper of the community, Lance is one of Milton’s chief personnel, helping her run the settlement’s government. He’s also seems like cannon fodder to me as things heat up between the Commonwealth and Alexandria, an early death that could spark a conflict between the two factions.
Mercer (Michael James Shaw)
Prediction: Lives
Mercer is loyal to the Commonwealth but there are more sides to him than his distinct orange military armor lets on. He’s one of the most interesting characters of the comic’s final storyline, and it would be a shame to lose him before we can see his story through.
Elijah (Okea Eme-Akwari)
Prediction: Lives
Elijah made his debut in one of the most WTF moments of season 10 when he rescued Aaron and Alden from the Whisperers. For weeks after his reveal, people wondered who the man in the steal mask could be. When he returned in the final six episodes of season 10, the show just kind of moved on without fleshing him out, which is unfortunate since he looks so cool! I’m going to assume that the series is saving a big Elijah-focused episode for later in the season and that he’s too awesome to kill off. You don’t just introduce a blade expert in a steel mask for no reason!
Virgil (Kevin Carroll)
Prediction: Dies
Virgil has a lot to atone for after kidnapping and drugging Michonne in season 10. At the end of the season, we learn that he’s found a disoriented Connie in the woods. His redemption arc will likely include helping Connie survive on the walker-infested road back to Alexandria. Will that eventually involve a final sacrifice to save her?
Connie (Lauren Ridloff)
Prediction: Lives
Connie’s been through a hell of a lot in the past season. After surviving an explosion, a cave-in, and an entire walker horde, Connie’s made it out of Whisperer territory but is still a ways from home. Expect part of season 11’s story to be about Connie’s odyssey and ultimate reunion with her sister and Daryl.
Lydia (Cassady McClincy)
Prediction: Lives
Lydia was at the center of Alexandria’s conflict with the Whisperers for a season and a half. With Alpha and Beta defeated, and their faction all but obliterated, I have to wonder what Lydia has left to do on the show. That said, the writers have continued to find interesting ways to explore this character, and someone has to live on to lead the next generation of Alexandrians. I think Lydia is in it for the long haul.
Magna (Nadia Hilker)
Prediction: Dies
Magna was sidelined pretty quickly after her introduction. While a reunion with Yumiko seems like the logical direction for her story, The Walking Dead universe is a cruel one. She could be headed toward tragedy.
Yumiko (Eleanor Matsuura)
Prediction: Lives
In season 11, Yumiko is inheriting a major storyline from the comics that likely means she’ll survive the final 24 episodes of the series. Of course, the TV show could always alter that storyline to bring a tragic end to Yumiko’s story.
Luke (Dan Fogler)
Prediction: Dies
It’s pretty wild that Luke has survived as long as he has. A man of the arts hardly has a place in the cruel world of this show, but he has clumsily persevered thus far. But if the writers are planning an especially bloody final season, I’d put Luke on the short list.
Kelly (Angel Theory)
Prediction: Lives
Kelly has been one of the best late additions to the show. It would suck for her to finally reunite with her sister only to meet an unexpected end.
Alden (Callan McAuliffe)
Prediction: Dies
Another candidate for the chopping block. I’m surprised he’s even made it this long.
King Ezekiel (Khary Payton)
Prediction: Lives
Yes, Ezekiel has thyroid cancer, and were he in Alexandria, that would mean his inevitable death. But the Commonwealth is a different ballgame, an advanced settlement in the comics that will likely have the doctors and surgical resources needed to save him. That is, if Ezekiel isn’t caught up in Milton’s caste system.
Jerry (Cooper Andrews)
Prediction: Dies
I love Jerry and don’t want to see the tank with a heart of gold go. But if the season needs an early death that pulls at the heart strings, Jerry is a prime candidate for a midseason casualty.
Father Gabriel Stokes (Seth Gilliam)
Prediction: Lives
Gabriel has evolved so much since his debut in season 5, becoming one of Alexandria’s key leaders. He’s come so far and even survived longer than his comic book counterpart. I’d hate to see him go so close to the end. So I’m just going to say he lives.
Aaron (Ross Marquand)
Prediction: Lives
Aaron seemed destined to die seasons ago, too kind and trusting to survive this long. But here he is, still fighting and surviving. He’s lost the man he loves, his arm, and many friends — and it’s all hardened him into a war machine. It’d be a shame for him to die now.
Rosita Espinosa (Christian Serratos)
Prediction: Lives
In the comics, Rosita’s head ended up on a pike during the Whisperer war, but her TV counterpart has persevered. It’s difficult to predict where her story goes at this point, but since she survived her comic book death, I assume the show’s writers have something in mind for her in season 11.
Eugene Porter (Josh McDermitt)
Prediction: Lives
Eugene has become an unlikely protagonist going into season 11. From a mulleted coward hiding behind his intelligence so that others protect him to the Alexandrian leading his people to the Commonwealth, Eugene is central to the plot of the final season, and I think that means he’s safe. Plus, Eugene is hilarious, and The Walking Dead can always use a little comedic relief.
Judith Grimes (Cailey Fleming)
Prediction: Lives
Result: Lived
NO.
Rick Grimes Jr. (Antony Azor)
Prediction: Lives
Nah.
Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan)
Prediction: Lives
I think The Walking Dead is going to end with one last big death, one last sacrifice before the credits roll on the massive zombie drama. Like Rick in the comics, one of the major characters of the TV series will likely become the martyr who inspires change inside the Commonwealth’s walls. Negan would probably be on the short list for this big moment from the comics, a villain finally choosing to do the right thing for a cause bigger than himself, a fitting conclusion to his seasons-long redemption arc. But Jeffrey Dean Morgan recently teased that he was already having discussions with AMC about a potential Negan spinoff after The Walking Dead has concluded, which means the former Savior leader is safe…unless the Negan show is a prequel.
Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride)
Prediction: Lives
This one’s an easy one: Melissa McBride is getting her own spinoff that will follow her character after The Walking Dead series finale. That means she’s safe.
Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus)
Prediction: Lives
Norman Reedus is joining McBride for that spinoff, so he’s safe, too. The actor even told us what the Daryl and Carol show will be about.
Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohan)
Prediction: Dies
That leaves The Walking Dead with one logical choice to pick up Rick’s final storyline from the comic. It’s Maggie. It also makes a bit of sense from a logistical standpoint. Lauren Cohan has already left The Walking Dead universe once before to pursue other small and big screen projects. She’s back for the final 24 episodes of the series as a welcome legacy character but that doesn’t mean Cohan wants to stick around for longer than that. I assume Cohan’s returned to bring closure to her character, not to prepare for a spinoff.

Attention Reylo Fam!
After hearing some disturbing rumors on social media that Lucasfilm may be considering pulling back the release of The Rise of Kylo Ren in order to change some major plot details of Ben Solo’s journey to becoming Kylo Ren (specifically his involvement in the destruction of Luke’s academy), I have decided to write a letter to Lucasfilm asking them, if the rumors are indeed true, not to do so. Obviously it is more than likely that the things I’ve been hearing are no more than supposition, given that I’ve only seen them on Tumblr, however I would still like to voice some of my concerns and the collective concerns of the fandom to Lucasfilm if there is a small chance they will receive my letter and take it seriously.
I have just finished my first draft, and I wanted to post it here so that you may read it and give me suggestions on things I should change or add on in the comments. I value the input of my reylo family, and I want to be as truthful and accurately representative of the feelings of the collective fandom as I can. I will post the draft below the cut, and also, if you would like your name to be included in the signing of the letter (either your blog url or, if you are comfortable, your real name), please let me know and I will add you to the list.
Dear Disney Lucasfilm Ltd.,
I would like to preface this letter by saying think you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for all the wonderment and inspiration that you have given me these past four years of my life. These movies, tv shows, books, etc. have been a cornerstone of my cultural upbringing since before I can remember and I personally believe that Star Wars is the single greatest tale in the history of the world. I thank you with all my heart for carrying it forward so honorably.
That being said, I still very much believe in this story’s potential to be a beacon of empowerment for those who feel so disenfranchised and even oppressed in the real world. I still believe that this story is capable of making children look up and believe in themselves and their power to make a difference.
I don’t think I’ll ever fully understand the reasons why you made the choices you made with regards to Episode IX: TROS. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a fine movie, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. No work of art can possibly please everyone, and I would also like to thank the cast and crew for working so hard and putting their entire souls into these projects these past several years.
This has all been a roundabout way of coming to the main point of my letter to you. Specifically, this letter concerns the character Ben Solo.
I’m sure that you have been hearing and seeing a variety of heated emotions on social media concerning the fate of this character. The first time I met him way back in TFA, I knew that he was someone special; even then I felt a very deep connection with his struggle and began to root for him. The arc that you gave him in TROS was beautiful, and everything I really wanted to see. I’d been hoping for his redemption for a long time, and to see it so beautifully acted on screen was truly inspiring. Although I must say that I really could have done without his death, for the purpose of this particular letter, I will digress from that opinion, even though I know for a fact that I am not the only one who holds it. At the end of the day, Ben’s storyline was fulfilled because he overcame the darkness within him, helped Rey to defeat the ultimate Evil, and brought her back to life with his love. I couldn’t have asked for more.
However, I have been hearing rumors on social media which are very concerning. A few people have suggested that Lucasfilm plans to pull back the release of the comic The Rise of Kylo Ren by Charles Soule in order to change some of the major details of Ben Solo’s story to better fit with what happened in the movie. Specifically, I am referring to the very important fact that Ben actually didn’t kill his fellow students in cold blood and that he didn’t set his uncle’s academy on fire. I don’t know if this rumor is even true, and I pray that it isn’t. The fact that I have as yet only seen these rumors on social media leads me to believe that there is little probability to it.
However, I cannot convey to you the depth of my despair should they turn out to be true. And I know that I am not alone. The fandom has already seen the plates, clearly showing that it was not Ben who set fire to his uncle’s academy. It would be a huge mistake to completely redo them now, and I can tell you with absolute certainty that you would lose the good faith and trust of many people in this fanbase.
I have written this letter to implore you all at Lucasfilm, if these rumors are indeed true, to please rethink your strategies; Speak with your fans directly, understand their viewpoints and how important this character is to so many. I won’t tell you how much I personally love and care for the character of Ben Solo so as not to take up too much space in the letter, but there are many others who love him feel a much deeper connection with the character than I. Should you chose to do this, you would not only be drastically changing important details of the character’s life, but you would also be taking his own past from him. So many dedicated fans will feel disenfranchised. Furthermore, your sales would go down drastically. I cannot tell you how devastated the vast majority of your fans would be. We all want justice for Ben Solo, and if we cannot have it through him living a long and happy life, we deserve to see it through the truthful telling of his past.
Both Disney and Lucasfilm have been major centers of hope and inspiration for me throughout my life. The messages that you send, that even those who have made terrible decisions in their lives can be gravely misunderstood by others, and that they can always make things right, is extremely important to me. And the story of Ben Solo is one which I have followed closely since I saw The Force Awakens for the first time. I believed in his ability to redeem himself even before the information that what happened at Luke’s academy wasn’t his fault came out. Even when it was assumed that he had killed his fellow students, I believed in him because that is what Star Wars is about. Belief, hope, and understanding. In The Last Jedi, Leia says, “Hope is like the sun. If you only believe in it when you can see it, you’ll never make it through the night.” I have held on to that message ever since I heard it, and it has gotten me through many tough, emotional times in my life. I know that you respect your fans, and we as a fandom have not given up hope that you will do what is right for these characters.
Once again, before I close out this letter, please accept my deepest gratitude for all that this company has done to bring Star Wars into a new generation, inspiring us to go forward and create our own stories and modern myths. I am, and always will be proud to be a Star Wars fan.
Sincerely,
…………
Let me know what you guys think, I am excited to mail this letter!
Peace, Love, and Reylo💜

prompt: what would have happened to the Shadow World, if Jace died at Lake Lynn?
It’s too quiet.
Clary wishes Jace would writhe in pain, scream his lungs out, if only to see life in his eyes rather than the glassy look that took over his mismatched eyes. She hates the silence in the forest, the way her own sobs echo among dead leaves like a war drum to accompany Valentine’s madness, and the distant boiling of Lake Lyn as the Mortal Instruments dissolve in the water.
The sky explodes with light, and she can’t quite fathom the apparition of Raziel.
It’s bright, as though all the lights of the starry firmament suddenly gathered over Lake Lyn.
Clary scrambles towards Jace, and doesn’t meet his lifeless eyes as she struggles against her bounds to grab his stele. Her hands shake as she burns the rope that holds her captive and finally, she breaks free, her chest heaving. She can barely feel the pain from using the rune on herself, except for the grief that tightens around her heart. Clary feels like she will never be able to breathe again.
She throws herself at Valentine with all her might, stalling the ritual. The light dims abruptly, leaving them in the darkness of the woods, and the wind whistles ominously among the slowly falling leaves as Clary charges Valentine again.
She has nothing to lose, but her peace of mind. Clary cannot be responsible for the death of thousands of downworlders, not if she can help it. Jace’s death, her mother’s, Ragnor’s, Dot’s and many of Magnus’ friends’, even Simon turning into a vampire, it’s all on her.
Valentine’s punches are nothing compared to her guilt, and Clary cannot bring herself to fear him, even less her fate, even when her own father comes at her with a rock as his only weapon. It’s ridiculous, she thinks distantly as she grabs the knife Valentine killed Jace with, and stabs the madman in one swift move.
Valentine falls to the ground, his eyes lifeless, not unlike Jace’s.
Lake Lyn reflects the light of a million stars as the Angel manifests again, addressing Clary by her name. She stares at Raziel, a constellation of possibilities she doesn’t dare considering. What good could her wish do? Clary couldn’t bring her mother back, and there is no hope for Jace either.
The Downworld is safe now, and she knows Alec will make sure it stays that way if it’s the last thing he does. Clary won’t get in his way, not anymore. Look at what she has done! The man she loves is dead, and so are most of the people she loves. Even if she begged for Angel blessed amnesia, Simon would still be a vampire, and Luke a werewolf. There is nothing to do, but grieve.
Clary cannot imagine the pain Alec must be feeling now, and falls to her knees with a heavy sigh.
“I banish you back to heaven, or whatever you call the realm you belong in,” she tells Raziel.
It’s the least she can do.
Notes:
I must thank ahdarling, Spark and Taupe for answering my many tv show related questions, and brainstorming with me!
I came to the conclusion that Season 3 basically doesn’t happen without Jace, especially if they manage to close the rift to Edom in time.
Clary could wish for the downworld to be at peace and forget about it, to go back to living with her mom, with Simon human again and without his memories either, I guess (although Luke is still a werewolf and she'd have the Sight and everything so she's bound to get involved with the Downworld again eventually.)
I imagine that since Clary doesn’t realize she can bring Jace back to life because she failed to bring her mom back to life already, she doesn’t make a wish at all, as the downworld is safe anyway. Maryse comes in to comfort Isabelle and Alec, her redemption arc happens sooner, and they notice the rift & close it. The mission gets Magnus and Alec back together, the end!
Thank you for this prompt anon, I had a lot of fun coming up with what ifs!

About YOU S2
Why bring so many cool characters if the intention is to kill them, when they deserved more?
Let's start with Joe. It's getting boring how much he can get away with it. I understand the critique of white privilege, by the way, one of my favorite things about the show is how it makes the audience cheer for Joe for him to have nice things and has a redemption arc If Joe wasn't white he would be arrested before he even killed Beck and there would be no story. But is there some redemption for Joe or is this just something the audience wants because he's attractive and white? I honestly prefer him to go on as a serial killer, no matter how much the writers tried to get Joe to have some kind of redemption in season 2, every time he opened his mouth to talk about Candance and Beck I wanted to punch his face on  my tv.
About Love. I love to hate her. But I find it wrong to say that she is psycho because she feels too much. She kills people on impulse (like most people honestly), the difference is she never had to face the consequences so kill one or  kill ten, doesnt make any difference to her .And this lack of punishment / consequence takes away a lot of the meaning of taking someone's life, as this is something that she can easily get rid of, is like nothing to her.  Again the white privilege being used and criticized, but ... look I love female characters with this “killer vibe” (I'm talking about you Villanelle, and you too Amy Dunne), but the way YOU use the character, sorry but I found it very sexist. Joe killed people, mostly innocent (some assholes like Benji but innocent) but now, all of the sudden, Love is the big villain? I dont think she is worst than him, they are in the same level.
Candace and Delilah so much potential! Candace disappeared and only came back to be killed by Love so she can have the twist of the season. I think the problem was not the outcome of the character but her arc this season. It was weak, I would say nonsense as she was only really important on 2 occasions 1. Telling the truth to Forty 2. Being murdered by Love
Delilah ... THE BEST CHARACTER OF THE SEASON! I mean she, Ellie and Forty were the owners of the season. All Delilah's arc with Henderson, then with her wanting to expose every LA perv. I mean, we stan the queen. Why kill this amazing character with so much potential ????? Another strong female character dying in this show ...
Forty is a baby. Knowing that he knows that his sister has "problems" is now evident why the addictions. About Love, she killed Sophia on the urge to "protect" her brother. And she continued to protect him. I think this is the most genuine thing in Love, in a very extreme way to say the least, she just wants to protect her brother. And have a family. Forty's death didn't seem stupid to me or a waste like Delilah's. But I wish Love had killed him and I'll tell you why.
Love wanted a new family right? Killing Forty would first, in a disturbed way protect him. Something similar to Liv in The Haunting of Hill House that tried to kill Luke and Nell to protect them from the world. And it would also symbolize that she chose this new family with Joe.
Ellie, congratulations. It is difficult to write a teenager who is not boring or fake, because right ... teenage years is a difficult phase. And I think Ellie got it very well the recklessness, innocence, the "I know everything" natural of this phase
I'm pretty sure the woman next door is Joe's mom. Because it is the kind of coincidence that happens a lot in fiction. And as much as I want to see that, I think they need a good reason to bring his mother right now. Coincidence in fiction is only good when it puts characters in trouble and when that problem can't be solved in an episode.
In season three I just accept Ellie killing Love and then exposing Joe, and him dying in prison.

Top five otps? Which I guess wouldn’t technically be just *O*tp anymore
Y’know, I don’t have many OTPs. I have ships I like, but it has to be something special to drive me to seek out fic and obsess over it. That said, here’s a few.
1. Rumbelle.
Tumblr media
No other ship even comes close. I’ve written close to a million words of fic about these two. They had my heart before I even watched the show and just saw someone I followed on tumblr reblogging gifs of them from the season 1 finale and I was like “oh that’s Claire from Lost with dark hair and that guy from The Full Monty and Stargate Universe that I’ve always thought was kinda dishy and they’re in love with each other and I’m gonna be in trouble if I ever watch that show” and then a year later I watched the show and holy fuck it ruined my life.
2. Braime
Tumblr media
Holy slowburn, Batman! Look if you ever designed an OTP that hit every single one of my buttons, it’d be these two. Fierce warrior lady? Check. Morally ambiguous asshole concealing a genuinely good heart beneath the snark? Check. Beauty and the Beast tropes? Check. Redemption arc? Check. UST? MOTHERFUCKING CHECK! I will always be wrecked by them and I can’t wait for GRRM to do better by them than the show did.
3. Remadora
Tumblr media
I was a Harry Potter nutcase for the better part of my 33 years ( I read Sorcerer’s Stone at age 11 and gave my life to the service of HP at that moment). The only ship I had in 7 books and 8 movies, was Remadora. Oh look more BATB tropes!
4. Lizzy and Darcy
Tumblr media
I read Pride and Prejudice when I was 12 and it ruined me. And then I saw the 1995 P&P with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle and no TV couple will ever compare. Apologies to Keira Knightley and Matthew MacFadyen, but like you tried? The first thing I ever sought out fic for was P&P. It’s not even my favorite Jane Austen novel (that’s Persuasion, natch) but there’s just something about this duo.
5. Java Junkies
Tumblr media
Gilmore Girls might be my favorite show of all time and Luke and Lorelai are a big reason why. (Also the reason I stopped watching in the last season when WTF Lorelai x Christopher? Were the writers doing meth? That’s the only explanation for thinking that was a good idea.) You knew from the pilot that they were meant to be together but the show made you wait 4 whole seasons and it was WORTH IT.
