fall from grace

5 November 1995
Euphemia's POV
The entire school slept in the Great Hall that night and Sirius Black has been all anyone can talk about since then. How he got in, what or who he was after, why he risked it at all, etc. The Fat Lady has been taken down and replaced with Sir Cadogan, an annoying and overzealous knight from the Divination tower, who is continuously changing the passwords in the name of added security. As if that wasn't bad enough, Harry and I are being watched almost constantly. Percy, Fred and George all got letters from Mrs. Weasley instructing them to keep an close eye on us, teachers have been walking with us between classes, pretending to have something they need to discuss with us, and Madam Hooch has been supervising our Quidditch practices.
As an added bonus, the weather has been absolutely dreadful this week, strong winds with a steady, heavy rain, and today was no different. It's two days away from our match on Saturday and Oliver has been pushing us harder than ever. We were all especially miffed today because Slytherin has backed out of the match due to Malfoy's "injured arm" from to his run in with a hippogriff almost a two months ago. We all know Malfoy is faking and Slytherin just doesn't want to risk playing in the rain. Oliver is freaking out because he thinks we aren't prepared to play Hufflepuff but honestly, I don't think it will matter much.
I race down the stairs of the castle to meet Riddle, having just come back from practice completely drenched. I managed enough time to change out of my Quidditch robes and back into my uniform but my hair is still sopping wet, dripping onto my clothes. I turn the corner quickly, running right into Riddle accidently. "Bloody hell, Potter! Sirius Black chasing you?" Riddle teases, a smirk on his face.
"Let's go," I say, ignoring his Black comment. Riddle doesn't move, instead scanning me head to toe.
"What, d'you swim here?" He asks, reaching out to pull a piece of my still wet hair. I smack his hand away, glaring at him.
"No, I had Quidditch practice and its pouring outside. But, of course, you wouldn't know that because your team backed out," I snap, turning on my heel to walk away.
"Oi, don't pin that on me! I'm not the injured one," he retorts, following me. His longer stride allowing him to catch up to me easily.
"Please, we all know he's milking it," I grumble, poking my head into an empty classroom. I turn back to see Riddle with a sour look on his face. "What? No defense to that? No witty comeback?"
"Salazar, what's got your wand in a knot today, princess? Usually I am the one pestering you and you supply the witty comebacks" Riddle levels me with an amused expression, sticking his hands in this pockets.
"Aw you think I'm witty? I'm flattered," I smile sarcastically, placing a hand over my heart, faking being touched, causing him to roll his eyes.
"Can we just get this over with?" Riddle asks, motioning down the hall.
"After you."

Mattheo's POV
"Bloody hell, it's miserable out," Theo says as he sits down across from me in the Great Hall, grabbing a piece of toast from the plate between us. "Never been so glad that Malfoy is being a  whiny bitch." I snort a laugh.
"Yeah except no one believes him so the Gryffindors think we're just scared to play in the rain," I say, glancing down the table at my cousin with his arm still wrapped in a sling.
"Where'd you pick that up?" Enzo asks, setting his tea cup down.
"Potter."
"You're gossiping with her now?" Elladora asks, a sour look on her face, well even more sour than her face normally is.
"She brought it up," I shrug, taking a sip of my bitter coffee.
"Is that a yes, Mattheo?"
"Ella, don't blame him. He's in looove," Evan teases in a singsong voice. I punch his shoulder hard enough to shut him up and turn back to the food in front of me. Ever since the start of term, my friends have been acting like being forced to be around Potter is going to make me soften to her. Currently, continuing to tolerate her is my main goal.
"Lay off, Elladora. I didn't ask to for this," I snap. She's really starting to get on my nerves lately; always paranoid about me being around Potter like I actually enjoy the time I have to spend with her. I didn't even want to be a stupid prefect in the first place.
"Yeah, Tori didn't either and now she's obsessed with the princess," Ella sneers, her words causing Astoria to recoil.
"Leave me out of this please?"
"Seems to me like you're the obsessed one," I snap at Elladora and hold her gaze, tired of her bitching and whining about things I have no control over. After a tense moment, Elladora pushes her plate away and storms off, flicking her curly black hair over her shoulder as she turns away. Evan whistles next to me and Theo and Enzo suddenly seem very interested in their breakfasts. "Salazar Slytherin, what is her problem lately?"
"Matt, you really cannot be that dense," Astoria chastises in that motherly tone she loves so much.
"Even I know," Enzo mumbles next to me.
''Then enlighten me because her attitude is really starting to piss me off."
"Starting to?" Theo smirks.
'Matt... she's jealous." I scoff, leaning back and shaking my head at Astoria.
"You know what, if you're not going to give me an actual answer then nevermind. C'mon the match is starting soon," I say standing, not wanting to be the subject of conversation anymore.
Before we even make it to the stands, I'm drenched. The green ponchos all the Slytherins are wearing are no match for the torrential downpour surrounding us. Almost nothing stops a Quidditch match though. I watch from the stands as Gryffindor and Hufflepuff struggle through the wind and rain. Both teams slogging through, hardly able to see each other, let alone the other team. Gryffindor is currently 50 points up and, as much as I hate to admit it, Euphemia is mostly responsible. Although if someone doesn't catch the snitch, it won't matter how well any of the others play and in this weather, I have no idea how Potter or Diggory will be able to find the snitch, let alone catch it. As time passes, it gets darker and darker out and hours blend together.
A flash of lighting illuminates the field for a moment and Harry's broom drops a few feet suddenly but it doesn't look like anyone notices as Angelina Johnson scores another goal. Slytherins groan around me in frustration at Gryffindor's lead and I watch as Harry shoots off, his eyes fixed on the snitch. At least, that's what I'm assuming he's after as I can't actually see the snitch myself.
"Bloody hell, I don't even care if Gryffindor wins as long as it ends this miserable game," Enzo says, straining to see if Harry is going to catch the snitch as he climbs higher and higher on his broom, Diggory flying after him.
Suddenly, the air grows colder than before and the world seems to move in slow motion; a horrible chill spreads deeper in my body than the rain could possibly reach. Fear and anger and sadness leach into my veins as another bolt of lighting flashes and I see dozens of hooded black figures on the field.
"Oi, do you see that?" Theo calls over the wind, pointing down at the figures.
"The dementors!" Enzo yells stunned.
Before anyone has time to react, Harry is plummeting out of the sky. I hear screams coming from the Gryffindor side of the stands and I watch as Euphemia buckles down on her broom, bolting for her brother as fast as she can, her face screwed up in concentration. Just before Harry hits the ground, his sister collides with him, slowing their decent, and the two Potters crash to the ground in a heap of limbs and mud. Multiple flashes of bright white light illuminate the field and send the dementors flying away as the whistle blows, signifying the end of the game. The air stars warming slightly as the dementors retreat, back to the same wet chill as before, fear and anguish leaving as quickly as it came.
Diggory lands, presumably the snitch caught in his hand, a proud smile on his face before he turns to see the Potters laying the on the ground behind him. Player and teachers all rush towards the pair and I see Euphemia sit up, holding her brother, his head in her lap as she looks frantically around for help, her mouth opening in a call that gets lost to the wind. McGonagall conjures a stretcher and one the the Weasley twins pull Euphemia up from the ground, wrapping her arm around their shoulder to help her stay upright as he wobbles slightly.
Diggory converses intensely with Hooch, his teammates standing behind him, emotions ranging from stunned to terrified even though they just won, as Dumbledore levitates Harry up to the stretcher. Euphemia and one of the Weasleys stand right next to it, and they begin to make their way back up towards the castle. And as the rest of Gryffindor team begin to follow their star players, my gut twists in a strange feeling that isn't stemming from the dementors.
A/N: Sorry this chapter is a little shorter than normal. Next chapter should be back to being 2k + and I'm really excited about what I have planned next. Please feel free to comment thoughts, suggestions, or whatever you want. I know I am not the best fiction writer so constructive feedback is always welcome. Thank you so much for reading and I hope you are enjoying it so far!

Percy and Rachel college/roommate headcanons 🥰
I don't actually know that much about schools in new york, but I do think they go somewhere in the city because it's home for both of them
Percy is there for marine biology and conservation on a swimming scholarship (that he totally cheated to get) and Rachel is a studio art major with a women's and gender studies minor.
They don't really understand each other's majors but are always super supportive and proud of each other
They stay together in coed dorms and eventually get a super shitty apartment that constantly has Sally worried for their safety
Neither of them is very good at keeping a clean living space, so there's often only one bed that isn't piled up with laundry and textbooks and they collapse on top of each other on the clean one for naps between classes
Percy hangs out in the studio with Rachel while she works and carries her heavier sculpture projects around for her. Once or twice she ropes him into being in her performance art and he doesn't hate it.
They have one of those little whiteboards on their dorm room door. Rachel does elaborate marker drawings and Percy writes dumb jokes, and the other people on their floor will go out of their way just to walk by and see if they've updated it.
They both need accommodations (Rachel for her oracle stuff and Percy for ADHD and dyslexia) and are constantly offering to fight the accommodations office for each other
Sometimes Percy will sit in on Rachel's art history lectures just to take naps, but he does end up learning a thing or two. He really likes Etruscan art and cuts up Rachel's old textbooks to hang pictures up on his wall.
Percy doesn't drink and becomes the designated driver for Rachel's art friends and hanging around them makes him want to start experimenting with his look more, which Rachel is all for
There's not much of a student section at swim meets but Rachel comes to every single one and cheers her ass off to the point that she becomes the teams unofficial mascot
When Sally, Paul, and Estelle come for parents weekend, they're there for both Percy and Rachel since she doesn't have anyone to come visit her. Rachel also has lunch once a month with Paul to catch up and swap interesting academic articles (and passwords to get around the paywalls each other's institutions don't cover)
They find a cat behind one of the dining halls and immediately take him in and hide him in their dorm room. His name is Single Serving Salad Bowl because he was so tiny that he was curled up in one when they found him. He just goes by Sal.
Nothing bad ever happens to them. Ever.

i don't really have an explanation (i.)
When Percy started his senior year in yet another school, he promised himself he would try his best to make sure nothing strange happened; sure, it wasn’t really up to him monster-wise, but he could at least try not to say anything strange to his new classmates or curse in ancient Greek. Besides, the last two years had been a mess and, with his kidnapping, it was not like he had much to say when he was told to introduce himself the first day of class -‘’hey, my name is Percy Jackson, my dad is a Greek god, and I was kidnapped last year and my memories were erased; oh, and I like blue food!’’. Yeah, that probably wouldn’t work.
Thus, Percy was known as the quiet and reserved kid in his school. This was a first for him; sure, he’d never had many friends, but he was always causing trouble. This time, however, he knew that Annabeth would kill him if, for any reason, he messed this school year up and he couldn’t go to New Rome University. He made friends -a first, excluding Grover and Tyson, who didn’t really count if you kept in mind that, well, they were his protector and his brother, and a satyr and a cyclops. He didn’t tell his friends much about him -his step-dad was an English teacher, he had been expelled from way too many schools, he had ADHD and dyslexia, he was very athletic, and he was going to try and join the swim team. He made sure to exclude everything that could be linked to his other life -he didn’t talk about his summer camp, his other friends, his huge dog, his father, or his girlfriend; Percy liked how both things didn’t go together, and he felt like it made everything easier. Whenever he talked, he sounded like a normal seventeen-year-old, and he was glad about that. He had had enough of monsters for a lifetime and, even if a hydra or a hellhound bothered him every other day, he could truly say that he could see a future for him and Annabeth that didn’t include them dying in the next five months. All in all, things were good.
When his school organized a homecoming football game, however, he did invite Annabeth; she was in a boarding school in the city, but it wasn’t that hard for her to sneak out with her New York Yankees cap, and he did want her there; it was a milestone for them. After all, Percy wasn’t supposed to reach senior year. They had agreed on meeting at the school; Percy had told Annabeth he’d meet her at the entrance once she texted him that she was close, since he was already at the bleachers with his friends. He wasn’t used to having a phone yet, however, which, in his opinion, gave him an excuse as to why he wasn’t checking his texts. Moreover, his ADHD tended to slow time down for him, so he was pretty sure that he still had thirty minutes before Annabeth was supposed to arrive.
‘’I swear, man, she was the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen,’’ his friend Matthew said, leaning over Kayla so he could see him.
‘’You say that about every girl you meet.’’
‘’I don’t say that about you,’’ Matthew told Kayla, who elbowed him in the ribs and, promptly, shut him up.
Percy couldn’t help but laugh at Louis’s mocking expressions behind Matthew. He’d only known these people for less than a month, but they had accepted him into their little club as soon as they’d met him and he was infinitely grateful. As Louis opened his mouth to, probably, laugh at Matthew over his ability to fall in love at first sight everyday, Matthew and Kayla stopped laughing when they looked at Percy. Percy tensed up, his hand moving to his pocket to make sure that Riptide was with him in case he needed to kill a monster, but, when a pair of arms linked themselves around his shoulders from behind, he tensed up for a whole different reason.
‘’I didn’t think I’d see you here, Jackson,’’ a female voice said playfully close to his ear.
Percy disentangled himself from her arms and turned around to stare Mary in the eye.
‘’An athlete at a football game. Who would have though, right?’’ he ironically said.
Mary rolled her eyes and rested her hand on his shoulder. Percy had to resist the urge to slap it away, but he didn’t want to cause a scene -he knew a lot about causing scenes and, with his luck, slapping her hand away would lead to a monster trying to kill him, and he didn’t want to be expelled before he could even take his first test. He didn’t know what he’d done to gain her attention -she was popular and decidedly pretty, and he was an outcast. He knew he wasn’t bad-looking -if Piper described him as a Greek god once more, he might die; Annabeth telling him that he looked exactly like his father also didn’t help, since the two times Poseidon had shown up in the past year while he was with Annabeth had always led to Percy wondering whether his girlfriend found his father attractive-, and he spent so much time swimming that one would have to be blind not to notice that he had a nice body. However, the whole school knew about his experience with being kicked out of school, since some teachers had made sure to remind him to behave during the first week of classes, and the swim team wasn’t regarded as highly as the football or the hockey team. All in all, he wasn’t a mess -unlike thirteen-year-old Percy-, but he was guarded and serious enough not to attract the attention of preppy girls. Mary, however, seemed to be obsessed with him from the day he got her phone out of the swimming pool after she dropped it while flirting with another guy in his team -‘’keep it wet, keep it wet’’, he’d had to remind himself-, and he regretted being a nice guy ever since then. Honestly, if his mom hadn’t raised him to be such a good kid, most of the problems in his life wouldn’t have happened.
‘’You could sit with us if you wanted,’’ Mary told him, signaling to her girl friends.
Percy knew the invitation only extended to him and not to his friends, who were quiet during the conversation. They had been at that school for three years, so they knew Mary and her gang, and Percy knew they sometimes wondered why he didn’t drop them for the popular kids. He also knew that he would rather face the Minotaur again than sit with the popular kids.
‘’I’m quite happy where I am, thanks,’’ he politely answered, trying to end the chat before he said anything rude.
‘’But you would have more fun with us, I’m sure,’’ Mary insisted, running her finger down his arm.
In moments like this, he almost missed being the young kid he was when he first arrived to camp, skinny and short and with a voice way too high for anyone to consider him a man.
‘’No, thanks,’’ he said again, using his other arm to take his phone out of his pocket, hoping Annabeth wouldn’t take much longer. ‘’Besides, I’m waiting-‘’
‘’Perseus Jackson!’’
‘’Man, I am going to need a massage after this’’, he though as he tensed again. He noticed his friends drive their attention away from Mary, who had also looked towards the origin of the voice with furrowed brows, her finger still on Percy’s arm. Before turning around, Percy quickly looked at the time on his phone, silently cursing in Greek as he saw the multiple texts and missed calls that he clearly hadn’t heard.
‘’Why is there a beautiful blonde goddess walking towards Percy, yelling his full name and looking like she wants to kill him?’’ Matthew quietly asked, forcing Percy to stifle a laugh.
He turned around slowly, half-expecting her to have a dagger at his neck. She was still far enough for him to be able to think of a few excuses, but he knew that wouldn’t work. Man, he had been offended the first time she’d called him Seaweed Brain, but she’d really hit the nail on the head.
‘’I can explain,’’ he said while she was still a few metres away.
‘’Explain, then,’’ she told him, now standing in full height before him. He was quite taller than her, but a standing Annabeth with folded arms and a stormy look in her eyes before a sitting Percy who knew he’d messed up was definitely scary.
‘’I…’’ he started. ‘’I didn’t think I’d get this far, honestly. I think this might be the first time you let me explain and I’m not ready for this responsibility.’’
He knew that was the right answer -her eyes were now shining with mirth and he could tell he was holding back a smile. She still had her arms crossed, but he figured she wasn’t going to kill him in front of so many people, so he tugged at them and forced her to sit next to him before he could regret it.
‘’I really thought it was earlier. You know how I am with the time, and I’m still not used to the phone.’’
She finally unfolded her arms and shook her head as she smiled softly, and Percy knew she wasn’t mad any longer.
‘’The fact that I have experience navigating labyrinths doesn’t mean that I want to navigate your high school, Seaweed Brain,’’ she told him.
‘’Completely understandable, Wise Girl.’’
He threw his arm around her shoulder, all his previous conversations forgotten, and he was about to ask her about her day when another voice interrupted him.
‘’Excuse me, Percy, but who is this?’’ Mary asked from behind him.
Annabeth turned around, a fake smile on her lips as she took in the brunette girl sitting behind her.
‘’His girlfriend,’’ Annabeth said. ‘’Nice to meet you.’’
She offered Mary her hand, though still wrapped around Percy’s arm, and Mary took it automatically, a shocked expression on her face. Her friends looked back between her and Annabeth, equally confused.
‘’His girlfriend?’’ Matthew whisper-yelled.
Both Louis and Kayla nudged him with their elbows, earning a laugh from Percy, which made Annabeth look at them with a raised eyebrow.
‘’Guys, this is Annabeth, my girlfriend,’’ Percy introduced. ‘’Beth, these are Kayla, Matthew and Louis.’’
‘’You’ve mentioned them,’’ Annabeth said, extending her hand and offering a real smile. ‘’It’s nice to meet you. Anybody who manages to put up with Percy deserves to be admired.’’
‘’Hey!’’ Percy whined.
His friends sat there, flabbergasted, but he didn’t really mind. Sure, he could have told them in advance, but he also didn’t think it was that important that he had a girlfriend; he was not the first guy in school to have one, and he definitely wouldn’t be the last.
He didn’t have time to talk any more before the game started, but he did manage to hear Matthew whispering to Kayla and Louis as the players made it to the field.
‘’So not only is Percy the hottest guy at school, but he’s also dating the hottest girl in New York? How is that fair?’’
Percy smiled softly and pressed Annabeth closer to him, enjoying her warmth and having her next to him. This was how things were supposed to be.

Trans!Percy Headcanons
He figured out he was trans not too long after he was diagnosed with ADHD
Sally was on board right away
Only Sally knows he's trans for a long while
She helps him pick out a name, Perseus
That name is only used with Sally
Eventually Grover finds out, completely by accident
He finds out when he first suggests that Percy join the swim team since he loves the water, and Percy immediately declines
Grover is Percy's number 1 supporter throughout his transition
Percy starts testosterone when he's fifteen, during the school year before the battle of manhattan
Everyone at camp notices the changes in his voice, but everyone is scared of him so nobody asks about it
Everyone at camp knows him as his birth name, andromeda (the name comes from andromeda, the girl that the original perseus saved from medusa)
One day after a visit to his mom, he gets back to camp with a seemingly flat chest
His hair was already short, as sally had cut it when he'd come out to her
Now his voice is deeper, almost like a boy's
annabeth suses him out right away
She's the third person to know
Eventually she convinces him to tell the rest of camp, telling him that if someone doesn't accept him she'd personally make sure they wished they were never born
He tells them all at the campfire one night
Everyone celebrates, and Will exclaims "I knew it!" because he had a feeling Percy was on testosterone due to the changes
Most people quickly adjust to percy's new name and pronouns
He has a personal squad ready to kick the ass of anyone who purposely misgenders him
This squad consists of Annabeth, Grover, Clarisse(though she won't admit it), Beckendorf, and even Chiron himself (and a few others)

Unexpected flame (part 3) | Fred Weasley x Sirius Black’s daughter
Tumblr media
June 1995
After the grim end of the Triwizard tournament, the return from Hogwarts was gloom.
Two weeks had passed since the final task and many students were still mourning Cedric Diggory. His death had been traumatic for a lot of people - they had expected to see a winner come out of the maze, not a cadaver -, and the image of Cedric's lifeless body in the middle of the pitch will forever be inked in their memory.
Juliet didn't know Cedric a lot. He was three years older than her and they didn't cross paths a lot at Hogwarts. All she knew was that he was the embodiment of the qualities of a Hufflepuff and was their quidditch team' seeker. She was sad and disturbed about his death, as everyone was, but wasn't weeping in mourning.
As they neared London, a smile formed on her lips. In his last letter, Remus had informed her that she'd be spending a small part of summer with the Weasleys and she was thrilled.
According to Ginny's letters, summer at the Burrow sounded really fun. The younger of the Weasley clan would always tell Juliet about the many pranks the twins would pull, swimming in the pond during hot days, playing quidditch above the field and even de-gnoming the garden.
''I don't mind you coming over during summer vacation, Juliet, but don't make it a habit. I see you enough at school,'' Ron said as he dragged his trunk onto a trolley.
''I'm just so obsessed with you that I can't leave your side, Ronald,'' Juliet replied jokingly. She wrapped her arms around him and attempted to kiss his face, but Ron dodged her lips. His cheeks were bright red from the attack, not used to girls being so close to him - beside his mother and sister.
Ginny and the twins laughed.
''Worry not, I won't be staying for long.''
''Well, I don't mind you staying for the summer. We're gonna have so much fun!'' Ginny said excitedly.
''Mom's here,'' George pointed out, seeing her hurry through the mass of parents and students and trolleys full of luggages.
.
The Burrow's back yard was beautiful during summer. Molly's large garden was filled with flowers, overgrown weeds and...chickens running around. It was a lot livelier than the old flower box at 12 Grimmauld place that she and Remus never watered and had left to die.
''You can stay in Percy's room if you want, dear. You'll be more comfortable than on Ginny's floor. I've put an extra blanket for you. The nights are cold, even in summer,'' Molly informed, tearing Juliet's attention from the window.
She thanked Mrs. Weasley and frowned. ''Where's Percy? Won't he need his room?'' she asked, confused. She didn't personally care about Percy, but she didn't want to steal his room and cause more trouble between them.
Ron shook his head, walking past her and looking around the kitchen, in search of anything he could steal and eat before dinner. ''He's not here. He got himself a job at the Ministry of Magic as assistant to Bartemius Crouch.''
''So you won't have to worry about him attacking you during supper,'' Fred added with a grin.
Juliet bit back a smile, shaking her head. Of course he remembered that.
''Mr. Crouch can't even remember Percy's name, it's hilarious. He calls him Weatherby,'' George added, not even holding his laughter.
Fred mimicked his brother and Molly scolded them both, using the hand towel she had in her hands to swat at Fred's arm. ''Quit making fun of your brother, will you? He worked really hard to get this job.''
''What's for dinner, Mom?'' Ron asked as his stomach made a growling sound.
Beside him, Ginny rolled her eyes. How could he always be hungry?
.
Percy's room being on the same floor as Fred and George's, Fred decided to be a decent host and show her the way.
''Here's Percy's den,'' Fred said, opening the door. ''Careful not to stay too long in here, you might lose your humor.''
The room was neat and clean compared to Ginny and Ron's. There were no posters or family pictures on his walls, but Ministry law books, ink pots, parchemin papers and old Daily Prophet newspapers all over his desk.
Juliet walked in and set her trunk down at the end of the neatly made bed. ''Fear not,'' she reassured the redhead, having no intention of staying in Percy's room for longer than necessary. She'll come here to sleep and that's it. ''My humor is deep in my blood.''
With Sirius Black for father, it was impossible to not have a great sense of humor. Juliet didn't share his attraction for mischief - not to his extent -, but she liked to tease people and joke around.
''I'll make sure to make jokes everyday, just in case. If you stop laughing, I'll know it's because of Percy's bedsheets.''
Biting her cheek, Juliet fought a smile. ''Always have my back, uh Freddie?''
He grinned in confirmation. ''If you need anything, just knock on my door.''
.
The next day, the sun was shining high in the sky as Ginny pulled Juliet through the backyard, both dressed in their bathing suits. They went up to the small deck that led to the pond, excited to jump in and cool off.
The first day of summer vacation was usually dedicated to cleaning the yard, but Molly had made an exception and let the kids play in the water since they had a guest.
When the girls arrived, Ron and the twins were already in the pond, fighting with pool noodles.
''Get him, George!'' Fred cheered as George hit their younger brother with a green noodle, a slapping sound echoing.
''Go George!'' Juliet joined in, taking George's side too.
Her voice had distraught Ron and his short moment of inattention cost him to get hit square in the face by George - and losing grip of his noodle. ''Bloody hell, what are you wearing?'' Ron asked, catching sight of the girls and staring at Juliet with wide eyes.
''I won!'' George exclaimed, turning to his twin for a celebratory high-five.
Juliet sat on the edge of the deck, about to get in the water. ''It's a bathing suit, Ronald. You wear it to swim,'' she explained, making the others snicker.
''This is a bathing suit.'' He pointed to Ginny's bright red one piece. ''Not...whatever this is.''
Juliet rolled her eyes and got in the water while Ginny jumped, cannonball style and splashed everyone - including Ron who scowled.
''You seemed in need of a cold shower,'' she told him as she resurfaced. ''Let's play chicken fight.''
''In case you forgot, we're an uneven number. It won't work,'' Ron reminded.
''Well, one of us is gonna wait on the sideline and replace the first person who falls. And, that person is you. You can be referee.''
''Me! Why me?''
''Because you're the one who mention it and I don't trust you to keep me up on your shoulders.''
Ignoring the bickering between his two siblings, Fred had dove under to refresh himself, starting to feel a burning on his pale shoulders. He emerged of the water and shook his head, sprinkling water everywhere with his long red locks. Those boys really needed a haircut. It was getting out of hand.
Ron grumbled some more, reluctantly accepting his fate as Ginny went over to George, ready to play.
''Juliet, you go with Fred. I'll go with George.''
Upon hearing his name, Fred caught eyes with Juliet and swam up to her. ''Ready?''
Fred's body had changed a lot over the past year. Puberty was most likely one of the reasons, but also quidditch. As beaters, they couldn't be frail and lanky; they needed muscles.
Standing so close to him, Juliet was surprised by how broad and strong those shoulders were underneath his robes and sweaters. She couldn't help but dart her eyes to his naked chest and the galaxy of freckles on his wet skin.
Shaking her head, she pushed those thoughts away. ''How do I get up there?'' she asked, having never played this game before.
Fred lowered himself down in the water and Juliet awkwardly climbed on his shoulders, fingernails digging into his freckled skin in panic as he stood up, feeling herself wobble.
''I'm not gonna drop you,'' he said in a reassuring voice, putting his hands on her knees for security. ''If I can hold Ron up, you've got nothing to be scared of.''
''Get ready to lose, losers!''
.
After playing in the pond all afternoon, the Weasleys had gathered in the backyard for a campfire. Mrs. Weasley had brought out the marshmallows to roast and Fred and George had decided to show off their firework skills.
It was a day Juliet wasn't going to forget anytime soon.
But, all good days come to an end and it was now time to go to bed.
After an hour of tossing and turning, the young witch came to the conclusion that she wasn't going to find sleep anytime soon. It wasn't because she wasn't tired - she was -, but sleeping in Percy's bed made her feel uneasy. His loud comments regarding Sirius had hurt her and she’d honestly rather sleep on Ginny's wood floor than here.
She had fallen asleep fast enough last night, but she always fell asleep fast after a train journey.
Sitting up, Juliet reached into her trunk and grabbed a book. Might as well read instead of sitting there in the dark and waiting for sleep to come.
A gentle knock on the door made her slightly jump, and then, someone poked their head in. Fred.
''Everything okay?'' He was in his pajamas and his hair was slightly mussed from sleep. ''I was on my way from the bathroom when I saw some light. Given the hour, I decided to check on you.''
Juliet put down her book, heart warm. It was very kind of him to check on her.
''I just... I can't seem to find sleep.''
''It's because of Percy's smelly sheets, isn't it?'' Juliet looked down at the bright patchwork blanket, doubt and disgust in her eyes, and Fred laughed. ''I'm kidding. Mom washed them.'' He stepped in and sat on the end of the bed. ''So, tell me. What's keeping you up tonight, Black?''
Juliet sighed. ''Lots of things,'' she half lied.
''Let's play a game. I tell you something I haven't told anyone and you tell me one until you fall asleep. I'll start. I'm gonna be graduating Hogwarts next year and I'm scared. Worried, mostly. As you know, George and I want to open a joke shop. It's always been our big dream. It used to be an almost impossible dream to reach because of our shortage of money, but with the money Harry gave us, it's allowing us to make test samples and slowly build a small variety of candies to sell. But what if we fail?''
Hearing Fred confess his worries about the future changed Juliet's perspective of him. Fred was always so bold, confident and positive, going around telling people that anything's possible if you've got enough nerve. He gave the impression that he was never afraid of anything, but he was just good at hiding it.
''I think everyone's a bit afraid of the future. It is scary.''
''I try to stay positive, but there's always this 'what if' that's in the back of my head. If we fail, what will I do with my life, work at Gringotts? At the Ministry of Magic? Become a teacher? Absolutely not.''
''You're great at quidditch. You and George are the best beaters Gryffindor ever had.''
Fred chuckled. ''I’m flattered, but I’m not good enough to play professionally. And I like to play with George. Quidditch is something we’ve always played together. I’d feel weird to play without him. It’s your turn.''
Finding something Juliet had never told anyone turned out to be more difficult that she'd imagined. In their Ravenclaw dorm, she and Luna had a lot of late night conversations over the years. They’d talk about everything and nothing, typical girl things and...stranger things, but Sirius was a subject they never dipped in.
''I almost didn't meet my father,’’ she started, which immediately caught Fred’s attention. ‘’When Harry and Hermione saved and helped him escape in third year, I almost didn't follow Harry into the yard. I was scared he wouldn't be the person Remus had told me about. That he wouldn't be as great as I had been told. I was scared to be disappointed. I also knew that it might be my only chance and I'd regret it all my life if I didn't go.
''When I got to the yard, he wasn't at all like I had imagined him to be. He was...scary looking, as anyone would be after spending so long in Azkaban. I almost turned around and ran, but he called my name, his voice so hoarse and broken, and a smile had curled on his face. The first in Merlin knows how long. At this moment, I realized that I held a power. A power to bring him a sliver of happiness after all those years of coldness, darkness, misery and despair.''
''I'm sure it was an emotional experience for him too. It must've been a shock to see you.''
''I write him letters almost every day, but I don't have an address to send them to so I keep them in a shoebox under my bed.'' Juliet laughed at herself. ''It's silly, I know-''
''It's not,'' Fred countered. ''I think it’s cute and understandable. You had gotten your father back when he was taken away from you - again. It's a way for you to talk to him, even if he can't read your letters or respond.'' He yawned and apologized. Unlike Juliet, he had been sleeping before knocking on her door.
''You can go back to bed if you’re tired.''
Fred shook his head. ‘’I’d rather stay and talk with you. It’s my turn now, is it?’’
They kept going for a few more minutes, talking in Percy’s room while the rest of the house was asleep.
If Molly were up, she’d undoubtedly scold them for being awake past midnight and Fred going into Juliet's room. Her rules were clear about guests from the opposite sex: no visiting after bedtime.
While they were talking, they had shifted on the bed and changed positions. Their knees were now touching and their feet were buried under the patchwork blanket.
''I didn't want you to go back to Angelina after we danced at the Yule Ball,'' Juliet said, surprising herself. She found herself panicking inside, realizing that, although true, it could ruin their friendship in a disastrous way.
A smug smile curled on Fred’s lips. ''I'm a brilliant dancer, am I?''
She chuckled, but didn't deny. Although Fred Weasley wasn't great at following through with the classic steps when ball dancing, he knew how to spice it up and make it really fun.
''I didn't tell you, but you looked gorgeous in that dress.''
Juliet blinked.
It wasn’t the first time Fred complimented her, but he had never been so bold. He’d usually say something subtle that he could easily say to his sister, but tonight, it sounded very flirty - and Juliet didn't hate it.
After that, it was a blur. She could recall Fred talking, but one of them fell asleep and the other followed.
.
Fred was gone when Juliet woke up.
At first, she thought last night had been a dream, but the blanket was moved as if somebody else had slept there. She grabbed the blanket and a faint smell of Fred lingered on the blanket. Juliet smiled.
''Morning!'' Ginny greeted, walking in and inviting herself on the bed. She was still in her pajamas so it must've been still early. ''Luna sent an owl this morning, inviting us to have tea at her house tomorrow,'' the redhead informed, holding the piece of parchment in her hand. ''I'll ask Mum if we can go, but it should be okay. She doesn't live too far.''
Juliet rubbed her eyes, still washed with sleep and nodded, looking forward to seeing Luna. One of the things she didn't like about summer was not sharing a room with Luna for two months. She missed her so much. They'd write letters, but it wasn't the same.
''Mom is making pancakes. She sent me to get you.''
''Oh, yum!''
The raven haired girl pushed the covers away, excited to eat Molly's delicious pancakes, but Ginny stopped her. ''Before we go down, there's something I wanted to talk about...I think my brother fancies you.''
Panic flashed in Juliet's mind. Was Fred that obvious? His flirting was pretty subtle and rarely when there was people around. How could've Ginny come to that conclusion?
Juliet laughed. ''What? He doesn't. Gin, you're insane.''
''He was so red at King's Cross when you hugged him! And, he kept staring you when we were at the pond yesterday. He's into you.''
Ron. Ginny was talking about Ron, not Fred.
''See it the way you want. Now, let's go eat pancakes!''

The Couples' Discount
The thing is, Annabeth knows Percy.
Annabeth knows Percy from middle school, where he would shyly ask her for a spare pencil every day, his big green eyes flitting from the floor to her face and back to the floor, and his face as red as a tomato.
Annabeth knows Percy from high school junior year, where every lab session involved Percy running late into class from swim team practice, a ball of inexhaustible energy: his legs continuously bouncing under the table as he leaned over to ask her what the atomic mass of carbon was for the third time that day.
Annabeth also knows Percy from across the hall at a freshman party in college, where her friend Jason and his friend Piper first locked eyes with each other and subsequently became inseparable.
Suffice to say, Annabeth is familiar with who Percy is. She just doesn’t think this level of familiarity is enough for her to engage in a conversation with him for five minutes, let alone share waffles with him for one hour.
Yet Percy is standing right in front of her, hands gripping the straps of his backpack as he waits for her response.
“You want us to go to Sveltes’ for waffles?” Annabeth’s right hand comes up to massage her temples as her laptop rests on her left arm.
“Blue ice cream waffles, Annabeth,” Percy emphasises. “Please?”
Anyone who knows Percy knows how much he likes his food blue - blue shakes, blue cakes, blue toppings and blue ice cream… Annabeth once saw his eyes light up when their high school Chemistry teacher told them they were making blue copper sulfate crystals. If Annabeth hadn’t kept an eye on Percy, she was pretty sure Percy would have tried his luck and eaten the crystals.
Annabeth steels herself and avoids Percy’s wide baby seal eyes (no, they’re not adorable at all, shut up) before replying, “No.”
Annabeth turns on her heels and walks down the courtyard as Percy chases after her, whisper-yelling, “But if they think we’re a couple, we can get the couples’ discount!”
Annabeth stops short, and Percy almost bumps into her from the momentum.
“What?”
Percy laughs shakily, before biting his lips, the blush surging from the base of his neck to his cheeks. There goes the tomato, Annabeth thinks with an odd sense of satisfaction. Percy opens his mouth and blurts out his words at the speed of a freight train.
“Yesterday was Valentines’ Day, and Sveltes’ has this wicked two-for-one ice cream waffles deal for couples which ends today, so the only way I can get these waffles is if you agree to…” Percy trails off, his lips pursed.
“Agree to what?”
Percy lifts his shoulders in a half-shrug as his face lifts with a timid half-smile. “Be my girlfriend for one hour?”
“Absolutely not. Can’t you ask anyone else? Piper?”
“Piper works there. Besides, Jason will kill me.”
Annabeth huffs. “Reyna?”
“Reyna will kill me.”
Annabeth snaps her fingers. “Hazel.”
Percy glances back at her, horrified. “I am not going in there looking like a pedophile.”
“We’re seventeen, Percy,” Annabeth grits out.
“She’s fourteen!”
Annabeth throws her hands up. “It’s a three-year difference.”
“That’s still illegal!”
“For what? Getting waffles?”
Annabeth glares at Percy for a few seconds, before Percy sighs in defeat.
“I just really want those waffles, Annabeth.” Percy mutters, training his eyes on the floor.
It makes total sense if she just walks away right now. He asked for something she doesn’t really want to give, and her homework awaits in her dorm. Though that isn’t due till next week, and today is only Tuesday… but she has stuff to do. Kind of.
Annabeth doesn’t know what went through her mind - given her final decision, probably nothing sane - but she hears herself say, “Fine. I’m free after classes at four.”
Percy looks up at her, his green eyes unfairly bright and filled with such a child-like hopefulness she almost felt the urge to slap him and stomp off in both embarrassment and confusion. He grabs both her hands in excitement. “Thank you so much, Annabeth. You will not regret this. I’ll treat you to that strawberry milkshake you like.”
“How do you know I like strawberry milkshake?”
For a moment, Percy’s eyes widens before he rushes out, “You told me sophomore year, okay, see you later, Annabeth!”
He turns and runs down the courtyard, leaving Annabeth to over analyse her very perplexing thoughts alone.
*
Despite Percy’s reassurances, Annabeth finds herself regretting her decision as Percy pulls the door of the cafe open for her. Annabeth steps in cautiously, cursing herself as she finds the place filled with couples. Maybe if she covered her face by resting her hand against the crown of her head, she could get away this entire hour without making eye contact with anyone she knew.
Luckily for them, they find a seat fairly quickly, and Annabeth busies herself with looking at the menu. She thinks there is a possibility they can just eat their waffles and leave without anyone noticing them, when a bright, excited voice calls out, “Percy!”
Before she could hide her face, Piper, decked in her Sveltes’ waitress uniform, walks towards them, her braided brown locks framing her face as her kaleidoscopic eyes shine in elation.
“And Annabeth’s here too,” Piper grins, then turns to Percy. “I thought you’d never work up the nerve to ask her out!”
Percy’s eyes widen comically. If Annabeth hadn’t felt her heart jump, she would have laughed at how quickly his neck turned red, along with his ears.
“To get the discount.” He blurts out, nodding meaningfully at Annabeth. She tilts her head to the side and raises one of her eyebrows challengingly, settling into a smirk. Percy’s face turns a darker shade of red as both his hands reach out to cup the back of his neck.
“Right, to get the discount,” Piper scoffs. “If that were the case, why did you call me last night--”
“I want the two blue ice-cream waffles and a strawberry milkshake with whipped cream and cinnamon in a large venti cup, please, now!” Percy almost yells.
Annabeth was about to shush him when she heard him recite her usual order. Piper nods and rolls her eyes, muttering something about “that ungrateful little idiot who asked me what he should wear today”.
“You know my order?” Annabeth asks as Percy breathes a sigh of relief. His head snaps up as he stutters, “I-I have a good memory.”
“Do you remember the atomic mass of carbon?”
He scoffs. “Of course, it’s 16.”
“That’s oxygen.”
Percy winces as Annabeth smirks. “So, you’ve been planning this for awhile, haven’t you?”
“Don’t flatter yourself, Chase,” Percy shoots back. “I really just couldn’t find anyone else.”
Percy launches into a commentary about how waffles are just the best thing the world has ever created, don’t you agree? That quickly turned into an explanation of why he liked blue food so much.
“I placed last for my first swimming competition and my terrible stepfather laughed at me and said I was useless and it would be impossible for me to ever get an Olympic medal,” He shares with an easy smile, hands fiddling the napkin on the table. “So my mother baked a blue cake and told me nothing was impossible as long as I tried my best. A few years later, she divorced my stepfather and we never looked back.”
“That’s very inspirational.”
“I know, I should become a motivational speaker.” Percy replies sardonically.
Annabeth snorts. Conversations with Percy have always been easy, even during high school. Lab sessions were always filled with bad Percy jokes, the kind that out of anyone else’s mouth would have made her cringe and roll her eyes, but she found hilarious when Percy said it.
The good thing about Percy is, he never took himself or anyone else too seriously. He was genuine and self-deprecating, and never really dwelled on one problem for too long. But when he was really passionate about something, he could go on and on about it, and Annabeth finds that he makes even the most confusing marine biology concepts sound understandable.
It wouldn’t be the worst thing on earth to hear him talk about marine biology everyday, Annabeth thinks.
Percy stops short in his ramblings, and a nervous hand comes up to palm his neck. A nervous tick, Annabeth thinks. Cute. Then she feels like plunging her head into the confectionary’s refrigerator because what in the world was that about?
She jolts back to reality when Percy chuckles. “I think I’m talking too much about my major. How about yours? How’s architecture going?”
“Marine biology’s interesting, especially when you explain it.” Annabeth reassures him. “Right now, we’re covering Greco-Roman architecture, and it’s the best thing in the world.”
Percy grins and nods at her to continue. So she launches into an explanation of Doric and Ionic columns and gushes a bit too enthusiastically about the wonders of the Roman aqueducts. Percy listens attentively and asks questions appropriately, and Annabeth thinks that it would be easy to go on more waffle dates with him in the future.
The waffles and milkshake arrive before she can entertain that terrifying thought. Percy oohs and ahhs at the blue ice cream waffles and she laughs at the number of photos he takes of his waffles.
Annabeth is digging into her waffles when a low, hearty voice asks, “Percy?”
Percy’s face brightens as a tall, burly boy stops at their table. “Beckendorf, what are you doing here?”
“Getting waffles with his girlfriend,” Another sweeter voice replies teasingly. “And who’s this, Percy?”
Annabeth glances up to see a petite girl in a pastel pink summer dress with her hands tucked around the arm of a muscular boy in a football jersey and shorts. The girl looks vaguely familiar, and judging by the way her eyes narrow at Annabeth in recognition, they definitely know each other.
“Aren’t you from my psych class? Annabeth, right?” The girl asks.
Annabeth panics slightly, racking her brain for a name. “Silena Beauregard?”
“Yep, and this is my boyfriend.” Silena smiles. “I didn’t know you guys were a thing.”
Annabeth starts, “We’re n--”
“Yeah, we, um, you know,” Percy fumbles with a smile. “We are a thing.”
Annabeth frowns at Percy, who glances at her with pleading eyes.
“How did you guys meet?” The boyfriend - Beckendorf, Annabeth recalls Percy saying - asks.
Before Annabeth could glare at Percy, he replies, “Oh, we actually grew up together, attended the same middle and high school. And as it turns out, the same college too.”
Percy grins as Annabeth forces out a short laugh. Silena cooes at them and turns to Beckendorf, “That is so sweet. When did you guys fall in love?”
Percy chokes on his cup of water, a sure blush forming at his neck. Annabeth maintains her smile as her mind runs a mile a minute while Percy stutters out, “Uh, um, you know, like normal people --”
“Two months ago,” Annabeth interjects. Percy looks back at her, confused. “We were having a double date with our friends,” Annabeth shrugs convincingly. “He was really easy to talk to, and I thought he was really sweet.”
Percy gazes at her, bewildered and with a little bit of wonderment in his eyes that she didn’t understand. What she said was true, Piper and Jason had forced them to a double date, simply because, in their words, they were “the two luckiest people with two of the loneliest friends”.
Annabeth and Percy had protested, but she had to admit that the night had been much more bearable with both of them commenting on the ostentatious fashion choices of some of the diners. Without him, Annabeth would have been stuck watching Jason and Piper hold hands from across the table and gaze into each others’ eyes every few seconds.
Silena grins. “And how about you, Percy?”
Percy blinks and bits his lip. “She makes me happy.” His eyes flit nervously from Annabeth’s face back to the couple.
Percy laughs subduedly as Annabeth clenches her jaw. This was getting too real too fast. Percy’s unexpectedly sweet confession threw her off guard and a strange silence descended upon them.
Silena breaks it, “Well, I’ve never seen you this way before, Percy. It’s a cute look on you.”
Beckendorf nudges her and signals to his watch. She sighs. “Sorry, we have to go now, but we’re actually having a small sorority party this week,” Silena turns to look at Annabeth. “We would love it if both of you could join us.”
“We’ll try our best,” Annabeth replies.
Silena and Beckendorf share a smile, before turning to leave the cafe.
When the couple were out of earshot, Annabeth hissed at Percy, “What was that all about? You could have just told them we weren’t a couple.”
“In case there were Sveltes’ waitresses nearby,” Percy says in a matter-of-fact manner. “If they catch us, this whole meal isn't going to be worth it.”
Before she could protest that very obvious excuse, he stuffs a large chunk of waffles into his mouth and points to his mouth. Annabeth narrows her eyes at him, and for some reason, Percy glances down at his food with a shy, lopsided grin.
*
After the meal, Percy respectfully insists on walking her back to her dorm on the account of her agreeing to get waffles with him.
And when that didn’t work out, he brought out the big guns. “Annabeth, please, what would my mother say if I let you walk home at this time of the night?”
She snorts. “You would be the type to be a mommy’s boy.”
Percy’s eyes crinkle. “I take pride in being a mommy’s boy.”
The easygoing banter starts again, and Annabeth occasionally catches Percy glancing at her for too long, each time his soft smile causing a lump in her throat and a distinct feeling of warmth on her cheeks.
It isn’t until they are nearing her dorm building when Percy starts talking less, his feet awkwardly shuffling.
“So,” he looks down as he lightly kicks the fallen leaves in front of him. “I had a great time today.”
She smirks. “Okay, I’m leaving.”
“Annabeth,” Percy blurts out, his hands coming up to stop her from leaving, before he thought better and pulled back, hands coming to rest near his body as he fiddled restlessly with his fingers.
She turns back around to face him. “I… I wanted to say that…” Percy closes his mouth, then opens it again, but no sound comes out.
He laughs nervously. Although she knows what he’s trying to do, this knowledge does nothing to quell the warm feeling in her stomach.
“I mean, since middle school, I kind of…” Percy raises his eyebrows meaningfully. “No, I…”
Annabeth almost wants to help him when his eyes catch hers.
“... So, I know this really nice pancakes place just down the street, I might need your help again because I think there’s a couples’ discount there too--”
“Percy, just ask me out.” Annabeth interrupts, exasperated.
“I want to do this properly.”
She rolls her eyes but smiles at him. “Great, we’ll be here all night then.”

Sharing each other’s clothing
This is super cliche and I’ve read it everywhere but I wanted to write my own so enjoy this trainwreck.
The first time Annabeth wears Percy’s clothing is by accident. Annabeth was having a horrible nightmare and couldn’t sleep so she sneaked into Percy’s cabin. With Percy’s familiar presence and calming words she fell back asleep. Annabeth was such a mess she forgot she had a head counsellor meeting the next morning.
So Annabeth woke up late and sat there for a minute before jumping out of Percy’s bed realizing she was late for the meeting. And Annabeth didn’t do late.  She rushed through her usual morning routine and tied her hair up in a quick ponytail. Not having enough time to actually realize what she was wearing she grabbed the nearest sweatshirt and sweatpants then ran out the door.  Percy watched her walk out the door with the big black letters “AHS swim team P. Jackson” on the back of the sweatshirt Annabeth was wearing.  Percy was suppose to be at the meeting as well but arriving 5 minutes late never hurt anyone. He got ready and dressed up as well and headed out of his cabin.
As Annabeth walked across the camp to the big house she received lots of stares but didn’t have enough time to care. She walked into the cabin with just 2 minutes to spare and sat down at her usual spot around the ping-pong table.  “So Annabeth since when do you swim?” Conner asked as she sat down. “What? I don’t swim.” Annabeth responded, stifling a yawn. She still wasn’t awake enough to process what was going on.  No one could read the back of the sweater because Annabeth’s back was pressed against the chair but everyone could see the big “AHS swim team” logo on the center of the shirt.  “Your sweatshirt, it says AHS swim team,” Travis said. Annabeth looked down and it did in fact say “AHS swim team”. Annabeth blushed a deep shade of red and looked away. So that’s why everyone was staring.
A minute later Percy came walking into the cabin and claimed the spot beside Annabeth.
“I like the sweatshirt you’re wearing” Percy whispered in Annabeth’s ear.
“Shut up. You knew I was wearing your sweatshirt but didn’t say anything” murmured Annabeth.
If Annabeth was speaking the truth she loved wearing Percy’s sweatshirt. It was slightly big for her and it was warm and comfortable. The hoodie smelled like an ocean and blue cookies, it smelled like Percy. The smell made her feel warm and cozy. The meeting went by smoothly and it was finished in 45 minutes. Annabeth and Percy walked out of the cabin together and received even more stares.
“So our Annabeth is a rule-breaker? You don’t seem like the rule breaker type.” Clarisse teased as they walked out of the cabin.
“We all know you’re just jealous cause you and Chris don’t share clothes.” Annabeth retorted.
“At least I follow the camp rules and don’t sleep in another cabin.”
“Oh shut up Clarisse, stop acting so innocent. We all know you break camp rules left and right.” Annabeth grinned.
The next time Annabeth wears Percy's clothes is on purpose. Percy was still in San Francisco attending school and Annabeth has another nightmare of Tartarus. Unable to sleep Annabeth walks into Percy’s cabin and looks through his drawer to find a sweatshirt to wear. She found a black sweatshirt with the Adidas logo on it and put it on. It was 2 sizes too big for her and her arms barely poked out but it was comfortable and Percy’s scent enveloped her.
This becomes a regular thing. If Percy isn’t at camp to comfort her when she has nightmares or flashbacks Annabeth enters Percy’s cabin to find his shirt or hoodie. Campers notice but none of them comment when they notice Annabeth’s red and bloodshot eyes.
Percy doesn’t realize till he comes back and notices 2 of his sweatshirts are missing, first he’s confused but then sees Annabeth in the training arena wearing his clothing.
“Hey Beth,” he says when he arrives in the arena. Annabeth freezes for a moment, who would dare to call her a name like that? But she immediately recognizes the voice. She rushed towards him and wraps him in a hug.
The first thing Percy noticed is her dark eye bags and puffy red eyes.
“Nightmare?” Percy asked.
“Yeah.” But that’s all Annabeth says, and Percy doesn’t pry. If Annabeth wants to talk Percy would listen.
From then on spotting Annabeth Chase walking around with a sweatshirt 2 sizes too big with “P. Jackson” on the back wasn’t a rare sight.

Percabeth College AU
Annabeth knocks over a cute boy outside her government in politics class, and she can't stop thinking about him.
Ch.1
Annabeth hurried across campus in the rain, already late for her third period class. Today is just not my day, she thought. First she had to struggle through English, which was not her strong suit, with her unforgiving professor, Mrs. Calkins. And just when she was thinking she caught a break, she spilled coffee on her biology homework, which meant she had to run all the way to second period.
Now it was raining, and the puddles were unavoidable if she wanted to be on time to her government and politics class, which she didn't want to be taking in the first place.
Head down to keep the rain out of her eyes, she took the steps up to the front of the building two at a time. In her haste, she didn't see the person in front of her until it was too late. They went down in a soggy heap of limbs and assignment papers; the other person's binder spilling open.
Annabeth internally groaned. This day just couldn't get any worse.
"I'm so sorry! I didn't see you there, I'm really late for class," Annabeth apologized as she started to pick her soaked self up.
"It's okay, Just watch where you're going next time," the other person chuckled, hastily stuffing his things back into his binder, "I'm late too, you know." He sounded surprisingly unbothered by the fact that he had been knocked down in the rain by a strange girl.
Weirdo, she thought, reaching for her pile of assignments and books. Anyone else would be annoyed, I know I would be.
"Just out of curiosity, what class are you late for?" the boy asked. At this, Annabeth looked up-- and promptly forgot how to breathe.
The boy had startling sea-green eyes, framed by wet and unruly black hair. He was extremely tan, and even with a rain jacket on, Annabeth could see his muscles. Though she was tall, he was taller. He looked like he could be the quarterback on the football team, or any team captain really.
"Uh, hello?" His voice brought her crashing ungracefully back to reality.
"Oh sorry, its-uhm I'm going to government and politics," she said, hoping her dislike for the class wasn't too evident in her voice.
"Hey I'm going there too! I haven't noticed you in that class before." At this, he leaned closer to examine her, dragging his eyes up and down her body. Annabeth gulped, before admitting, "I haven't seen you either."
"Well I usually sit in the back so I don't get caught sleeping," he smirked, stuffing the rest of his papers back in his binder. "That class is boring as hell."
Annabeth smiled, rolling her eyes, "Tell me about it. I don't know why I have to take it anyway. It has nothing to do with architectural designs."
They started walking towards class, much slower than Annabeth had been going before.
"You're majoring in architecture?" he asked, turning to look at her as they trudged through the rain to class
"Yeah. What about you?"
"Marine biology."
She snorted, trying her best not to laugh, but he noticed anyway.
"What's so funny about that?" The amusement in his eyes showed her he wasn't offended.
"I just pictured you some sort of sports jock, not an ocean lover," she explained, barely keeping herself from bursting with laughter.
"Oh, well, I guess that makes sense," he commented. Smiling, he turned to continue, "I am on the swim team, so you weren't too far off your mark."
"You swim? Are you any good?" Annabeth asked, half teasing.
"Well I guess," he said, looking sheepish. "I got a scholarship, so someone must think so."
"Oh wow, that's awesome. I did track and field in high school, but not well enough to get a scholarship or anything," she smiled.
"I'm sure you were great, I mean.." he trailed off gesturing to her, going a little red. Annabeth knew she was in good shape, but she didn't think about how she looked too much.
Heat creeping up her neck, she hurried to change the subject. "So, marine biology, huh?"
Percy looked relieved as he answered. "Yeah, my mom used to take me to Montauk every summer. I loved it there, it was like my second home. Swimming in the ocean was as natural to me as walking, even as a toddler," he beamed
Just as he finished talking, they reached the lecture hall.
"Oh, uh, I didn't catch your name," he said.
"Annabeth, you?"
"Percy," he smiled. "Well, see you around."
She waved goodbye as she headed to her seat in the front of the hall.
__________
"WHAT????"
Annabeth cringed away from her best friend.
"Why didn't you tell me sooner?" she whined.
"Pipes, I just met him yesterday, calm down," Annabeth soothed.
It was a Tuesday morning, and neither Piper or Annabeth had classes. They were in a cozy coffee shop, just off campus, and Piper had been interrogating Annabeth about her love life. She hadn't meant to tell her yet, but Piper could be very persuasive when she wanted to be, and Annabeth had trouble keeping anything from her.
"You could have texted me! You do have a phone, you know!" The other girl was slowly calming down after her original outburst.
"I didn't want to tell you yet, Pipes. It'll probably turn out to be nothing," she explained reaching for her coffee. "I didn't even get his number."
"But you got his name right? Even you could manage that." Annabeth could see in her eyes that Piper was determined to get every last detail about the previous day's encounter.
"Yes I got his name Piper." Annabeth rolled her eyes, taking a sip of coffee. She cursed as the boiling hot liquid came in contact with her tongue. Piper ignored her.
"Well? I want to know the name of the boy who got the ever-stoic Annabeth Chase to pay attention to him," Piper pressed.
She sighed in defeat, trying to ignore her burnt tongue. "His name is Percy. He's on the swim team and he's majoring in marine biology-" Annabeth paused. Piper's mouth was hanging open, and she was staring at Annabeth with wide eyes, shock written all over over her face.
"What? What's wrong?" she asked, worried.
"Percy!? As in Percy Jackson, the most popular and sought-after boy in school? Percy, the super hot captain of the swim team? That Percy?!"
"Uh.. I- Iguess? I didn't get his last name," Annabeth stammered, taken aback by Piper's second outburst.
"Where have you been the last two years? Percy is the hottest boy in the entire school, besides Jason of course, and everyone knows about him!" Piper seemed genuinely shocked that Annabeth hadn't heard of him before.
"If you hadn't noticed, I was too focused on my grades to make friends with anyone freshman year, and only became friends with you because we were forced to work together. I barely came out of my dorm," she rolled her eyes at Piper's incredulity. Then she thought of something.
"If he's so popular, he's probably dating someone -" Piper cut her off.
"No that's the thing!" She was excited now, and Annabeth was slightly worried. When Piper wanted something to happen, it happened, and Annabeth didn't want to be caught in the middle of one of her schemes. "He's not dating anyone! I mean, he dated Rachel Dare freshman year, but she moved to Germany or something."
"Well if no one else could date him, why would I be any different?"
"Annabeth! You're the prettiest person I know, and I'm not just saying that because you're my best friend. If anyone has a chance of scoring Percy, it's you."
Annabeth frowned, "Well I don't want someone to date me just because they think I look pretty. And I'm not much of a social butterfly, if you hadn't noticed."
"You're more than just a pretty face! Your smart, witty, and have a great sense of humor. I don't see how he could not date you." Piper leaned back in her chair, looking satisfied, as if she had single handedly gotten Percy to date her already.
"That's very sweet Piper, but my social skills are sadly lacking. I don't think I could charm my way into a relationship," she countered, chewing her lip.
"Annabeth! You don't need to! Just be yourself, and if he doesn't like it, he's not the one for you," she explained.
Annabeth rolled her eyes. "I don't think I'll be finding my 'one' anytime soon."
Their conversation moved on to the biology homework, but Percy was still on Annabeth's mind. And as the week progressed, he stayed there, front and center, as much as she tried to get him out.

Things We Lost in the Fire, ch 16
aka Caleo uni au
Fic summary: Calypso starts studying at a new university, but to her annoyance her new flatmate is a loud mouthed mechanic who also likes to sneak his dog in whenever. But as she learns to know him better, she realizes they might have more in common than what she first thought. Eventually, even the darkest secrets come out…
Chapter summary: Game night at Leo and Calypso's flat.
A/N: So sorry for the delay with this chapter, but better late than never, right? This chapter was both fun but also challenging to write, because I wasn't sure how much game description I can have without making it boring. I myself am a big Pokémon fan (among other things) so adding that was very self-indulgent of me, but I hope that even those of my readers who aren't that familiar with Pokémon will be able to enjoy this chapter. I tried my best to explain some of the most important terms in the author's note on ao3 so you can check that if you want to.
Now, please enjoy and let me know what you think! I've been feeling a bit under the weather lately so comments would really cheer me up! (Ps. since it's already Sunday, I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to update next Thursday but I'll try)
Characters in this ch: Calypso, Leo, Piper, Jason, Annabeth, special guest appearance in the end ;)
Words: 2900+
Genre: romance & hurt/comfort
Warnings: none
previous chapter / next chapter / AO3
Saturday came and Leo still hadn’t heard anything from his professors, which he took as a bad sign. Maybe they were still considering if such a problem student would ever be able to go through the tough education. He hadn’t even talked to Jo and Emmie after the incident, claiming that he was currently busy but he’d call back when he had time. He was still determined to try to get over his fear because his flatmate believed in him and thought that he could do it. And if not for anything else, Jo and Emmie hadn’t adopted him just so he would waste the opportunity. Calypso and he had agreed to continue the training the upcoming week, but now, they had something different in their minds: the game night.
Jason and Piper arrived first. They brought their Switch, some games and snacks with them and seemed about as confident about winning their battles as Leo was. Annabeth had told the group she would be arriving a bit late as she had promised to tutor a pupil that afternoon but that arrangement suited everyone well since she wouldn’t be able to participate in the Pokémon tournament anyway.
The group decided to have three battles and the team winning two of them would win the whole competition. Unfortunately for Team Flatmates, Jason and Piper won the first battle quite clearly, causing Calypso to throw annoyed glances at Leo.
“Mister Pokémon Master, I thought you had a plan,” she growled at him while their opponents were highfiving each other.
Leo leaned closer to her, attempting his sneakiest expression: “Just trying to make them feel comfortable, Sunshine. And when they think they got it…”
“You’re either an evil genius or simply an idiot.” Calypso shook her head.
“Hey, what are you two whispering there?” Piper asked loudly from her seat. “One would think that you’re plotting something… Maybe even cheating.”
“Just a mandatory team meeting, Pipes. We don’t cheat. I feel offended that you’d even consider that.” Leo put his hand over his heart to feign innocence.
“Yeah, right,” Piper rolled her eyes. “We almost believe that.”
The second battle was much more even than the first one. In the end both teams were down to one Pokémon, but Leo’s Charizard was faster than Jason’s Magnezone and it managed to finish it off with one final Flamethrower.
“See, Sunshine, if it hadn’t been for my Charizard…”
“Oh my gods, Leo. You just happened to get lucky that Tyranitar’s Rock Throw missed it earlier. Otherwise you’d been done for.”
“Well, they say that even luck has to be deserved,” Leo smirked.
“So that’s what your strategy is?” Jason asked. “Luck?”
“Do I hear complaints? You guys just don’t respect the genius in his element.” Leo protested.
“Well, I guess the final battle will decide who really is a genius and who’s not,” Piper noted and that was the group’s cue to stop trash talking and continue playing.
...
Jason and Piper’s team got a strong start in the last battle. They took down two of Leo and Calypso’s Pokémon before they got any major damage done. But after that Leo showed that sometimes he did have luck on his side; he took a small risk by making Luxray use Thunder against Jason’s flying type and it was worth it. The attack didn’t miss this time and Braviary went down in one hit. After that Leo took another risk by telling Calypso to use a water type Slowbro against Piper’s grass type Lurantis. He had planned ahead though by using a move that made Slowbro faster than Lurantis, and his Pokémon also knew a fire type move Flamethrower, which caused Lurantis to go down after two hits.
From then on the battle progressed more evenly. Charizard and Venusaur were Leo and Calypso’s last Pokémon to stand against Piper and Jason’s Manectric and Umbreon. Calypso suggested they’d try to use Venusaur against Manectric but Leo claimed his Charizard might be able to beat it with one hit. He miscalculated, though. Manectric was still faster and its Discharge was enough to take the Charizard down. Calypso looked at Leo with a ‘what did I say’ expression and took over. Her Venusaur, which was resistant to electric moves, managed to win Manectric, and Calypso couldn’t hide her smug smile when Jason and Piper switched to their last Pokémon.
In advance the last match up seemed pretty even, apart from the fact that Venusaur had already taken a bit of damage in the previous battle. Both Pokémon kept slowly chipping the other one’s energy and then healing up again for a good while until finally, Venusaur got a critical hit with its Giga Drain and made Umbreon faint.
“YES!” Calypso yelled probably louder than Leo had ever heard her yell in the short time he’d known her. Before he had time to react, he felt her arms wrap around him.
“Woah! Someone’s excited.” Leo mumbled against her hair.
“Sorry,” Calypso blushed. “I may have overreacted a bit. But we did it!”
“A critical hit, huh? Those need some luck, don’t you think?” Leo asked her smugly once Calypso had removed her arms from around him.
“Yeah, I guess…” she said, wondering where he was going with his comment.
“I’d advise you to check Venusaur’s held item.” Leo winked and Calypso clicked Venusaur’s data open.
“Dire Hit?” she asked in disbelief. “Did you predict this would happen and that’s why you gave him that? To boost the critical hit ratio?”
“Well, I told you the luck has to be earned sometimes.” Leo’s grin was about as wide as it could get. Calypso didn’t know if she should punch him or hug him again. Her hand remained still in the mid air for a while before she finally decided to put it down, in the small gap between his and her thigh.
“You could have told me that earlier, you frustrating, evil…” She started scolding him.
“Yes? Finish your sentence, please.” Leo challenged, leaning a bit closer to her.
“Not genius,” she said quietly, not able to look him in the eyes.
“Has anyone ever told you guys you’re adorable?” Piper asked all of a sudden and it was then that the flatmates remembered that Jason and Piper indeed were in the room too. They flinched for a moment and then jumped farther from each other.
“Hey, what are you implying?” Leo casted an annoyed look at his friend.
“Pretty sure Mister Genius knows what I’m implying,” Piper said back and caused Leo to groan loudly.
“No way. No. We’re not… I mean I wouldn’t… She wouldn’t…”
“No one understands you, Leo,” Jason stopped his stuttering.
Leo wasn’t about to admit his defeat quite that easily, but luckily he was stopped by the buzzer. Annabeth had finally arrived and Calypso rushed to open the door, trying to put her poker face back on.
Hi! Sorry I’m late, the pupil had quite a lot of questions this time,” Annabeth explained, glancing at the clock on the wall that showed that the four others had been playing for almost an hour already. “And of course Percy had lost his swimming goggles again and we were searching for them for at least 15 minutes. I promise to kick his butt for that later tonight.”
Calypso was still too distracted by the earlier situation to pay attention to the name Annabeth had mentioned.
“No worries, you probably wouldn’t have enjoyed it anyway. The boys were getting a bit enthusiastic about Pokémon,” she told Annabeth.
“Excuse me, who was literally just screaming and glomping people because she won?” Leo retorted back and Annabeth chuckled at his reaction a bit.
“Hmm, to me it sounds like I’ve missed a lot.” She smirked. “Moving on, though, what are you guys thinking of doing next?”
“We were planning to play Mario Kart,” Calypso gestured towards the console, as she went back to her seat.
“And this time we won’t be playing in pairs so it should be interesting to see how these two will be behaving,” Piper meddled in.
Both Leo and Calypso pretended they didn’t hear her, instead starting to trashtalk each other.
“Okay, Repair Boy, let’s see how far luck will get you in this game.”
“Sunshine, if you think I need luck in Mario Kart… you’re as wrong as my middle school teacher who claimed that my jokes were bad and threw me out of the class just because of that.”
Jason had to disagree with that statement, though. “For me you told that that joke was about the teacher himself and that it was kind of inappropriate. So your teacher was right.”
Leo turned to Calypso. “Why did we invite these two again?” He nodded towards Piper and Jason. “They’re ruining my stories.”
“I think they are just telling the truth,” Calypso chuckled.
“Oh yeah? Let’s see who laughs last when they win this contest.”
“Alright, children,” Annabeth stopped them. “This is fun to listen to but I think the only way to find out who really can play is to play.”
“Annabeth’s right, as usual,” Piper said too. “Let’s do it.”
The friends shared the remote controls and put the game on. Before they got to the character picking, though, Calypso confessed something.
“I have to admit that I haven’t played this game before. Well, I haven’t played most of the games before. Pokémon was easy for me to understand because it’s one of the few games I did play as a kid.”
“Wait… what?” Leo turned to her, his eyes wide. “You have only ever played that game as a kid and did that well?
“You created the team, I only picked what felt good in that moment.” Calypso waved it off. “Without that Dire Hit…”
“Looks like progress has been made between those two,” Annabeth whispered to Piper who snorted at her comment.
“One could say that,” she said with amusement.
“Alright, guys, let’s focus on the relevant things here. It’s time to pick your characters.” Jason ordered and the others had to listen to him. Leo picked Mario, Calypso Princess Daisy, Jason and Piper Toad and Toadette and Annabeth Yoshi (she claimed it reminded her of her boyfriend). Leo had to instruct Calypso briefly on the functions of the remote control for this specific game, but after that the group was ready.
It took Calypso a while to learn to use the remote control but Leo had to give it to her, she really gave it her all. In the first race she was the last, but she slowly started getting better until finally she was fourth, managing to win Piper while Leo, Jason and Annabeth were still better.
“At this rate you’ll win the guys before they notice it,” Annabeth complimented Calypso. “But don’t expect me to be as easy as they are.”
“How are you that good?” Calypso asked her, knowing she had meant what she had said.
“I guess I just do a lot of things that develop my hand-eye coordination; I draw, play some sports, and believe it or not, my mom also wanted to make sure I’d be good at knitting and weaving so she started teaching me at a young age. Now I haven’t seen her in a long while but I’m still trying to maintain the skill.” Annabeth shrugged.
“In that case, I’m going to continue my hobbies too. Imagine seeing Leo and Jason’s faces when we both win them,” Calypso said, causing the boys to protest.
“The next Cup will decide who wins, OK?” Jason tried to solve the situation after some bickering between the parties.
“Fine,” the girls agreed, but Leo’s face told that he was very ready to show Calypso who the teacher was.
By the last race of the Cup Annabeth was in a clear lead, Jason was second, leading Leo with 5 points, Leo third and somehow Calypso had sneaked to the fourth place 7 points from Leo. In the last round of the last race Leo was leading, others close behind him, when Jason managed to get a blue shell, shooting it at his friend’s car.
“Hey! That’s so unfair!” Leo yelped as he watched his car getting knocked over. Unfortunately for Annabeth, he was situated on the road in a way that she had to slow down a bit when she passed him, but Calypso and Jason had the space to drive on the full speed on the other side of the road. They were already close to the finish line and if the track had been any longer, the race would probably have ended differently, but Leo didn’t have enough time to bounce back after the collision. Jason ended up winning the last race, Calypso being the second, which meant she gained seven points more than Leo did. That, on the other hand, meant that they ended up with exactly the same amount of points in the Cup.
After Leo said a couple of quiet curse words in Spanish, he dared to look at Calypso from the corner of his eye. She was looking at him too and seemingly trying to figure out what she should tell him. He wasn’t able to stay mad after that.
“Guess we’ll be on the podium together,” he went first.
“Yeah,” Calypso nodded. “Hey, you’re not a half bad teacher.”
“Half bad?” A smile spread on Leo’s face. “Hey, guys, did you hear that? Coming from Calypso, that was a big compliment!”
“I can also take it back, if you want,” she said calmly but couldn’t stop herself from smiling as well.
“Good game, Cal,” both Annabeth and Piper told her, giving her high fives.
“Thank you! Next time, I’ll even try to challenge the champion.” Calypso nodded towards Annabeth.
“Good luck with that!” she responded. “I promise I won’t go easy on you.”
“I wouldn’t want that,” Calypso said before turning her attention back to the screen again.
Silence fell into the room as the group watched the award ceremony. Annabeth’s Yoshi rose to the highest podium, Jason’s Toad followed and Leo and Calypso’s Mario and Princess Daisy shared the third one.
“We don’t look that bad together, huh?” Leo noted while drumming his fingers in the same rhythm as the background music. At first he didn’t realize there was anything weird in his words, but the others’ chuckling and Calypso’s pink cheeks woke him up.
“Hu-huh?” she asked, flustered.
“I mean… our characters! They look pretty neat!” He yelped and folded his arms. The others had to bite back their smiles but Piper decided to be kind and change the topic.
“So, we’ve played Pokémon and Mario Kart now… what next?”
Calypso seemed relieved by her question. “I forgot to mention I prepared some presents for the top three! I made some cupcakes and I thought the winner would get three, the second one two and the third one… Don’t worry, Piper, I think I should have one extra cupcake in the fridge.”
“You wouldn’t have had to, I could have eaten Jason’s extra,” Piper said but accepted the cupcake nevertheless when Calypso started sharing them.
Leo wasn’t very willing to give up on his cupcake that he was supposed to share with Calypso.
“So you had an extra cupcake but we still have to share?”
“You already ate one last night! And I don’t have more of them with the frosting right now, the rest are in the freezer.” Calypso protested.
“Such a cold hearted woman,” Leo muttered and snatched the last cupcake from the plate. Calypso didn’t have time to stop him before he had already split the bottom part in half with a knife that had been resting next to the plate. Then he put the other half on the top of the cake and took a huge bite of it.
“Leonidas, what are you doing?!” she exclaimed and tried to reach the cupcake in his hand.
“Eating my share, of course!” he said as he stuffed more of the cake into his mouth.
Calypso was prepared for Leo to run away from her like he had the other day after the chili incident but to her surprise he stayed in one spot. Leo started laughing at her baffled expression.
“Open your mouth,” he ordered her, putting the remains of the cupcake near her face.
“What?” Calypso asked, not expecting that reaction.
“What what, do you think I won’t give you your share of the cupcake? You deserved it!” he said, his eyes gleaming mischievously.
“But you bit that already!” Calypso tried to protest.
“Are you 8? I can always cut this in half with this knife if that’s what you want.”
“Fine,” she finally said, waiting for Leo to finish the cutting before letting him feed her. They didn’t notice that Piper was whispering something to Annabeth and Jason. The group seemed to agree about something, but their whispering was interrupted when there was a knock on the front door.
“That’s probably just Percy, he must have gotten out of his practice by now.” Annabeth said and went to open the door.
“Hi, I tried to call you but I guess you didn’t hear your phone or something,” a male voice could soon be heard in the hallway. “Someone let me in downstairs while I was… you?”
Everyone was now able to see the newcomer who stopped in his tracks when he recognized Calypso. She had frosting all over her face, Leo’s hand on her shoulder when she turned to look at him. “Percy?”

They called him a troubled kid. A loser. A mess up. A failure. No attention span, a problem child, poor grades, nothing but backtalk. Whatever the opposite of “a pleasure to have in class” was. They didn’t see how hard Percy was trying. They didn’t see him playing catchup from the moment he was born.
Percy never knew his father--he never even knew who his father was. From day one, it was was just him and his mother, Sally, a young high school dropout. (Her parents had been killed in a plane crash when she was young, and she lost her dreams of a writing degree with her uncle, proof that the worst things happened to the best people.) Sally didn’t have much, but she gave everything she had to being a good mother to Percy. And she was--the best mother Percy could possibly have asked for, giving and patient and funny and kind and honest (except when it came to his dad; that was off limits).
And then she married Gabe Ugliano, who was as awful as Sally was good, but he did give them something resembling stability. A little bit. For a while.
Percy wasn’t exactly conducive to stability--he was kicked out of every school he tried, draining Sally’s savings and Gabe’s patience. Sometime around school three, when he was eight or so, he was diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia, but the labels didn’t do anything for the trail of inexplicable bad luck that followed him wherever he went. No matter what he did, no matter his intention, despite the fact that he never--never--meant to do anyone any harm, things blew up in Percy’s face. Sometimes literally. He was a good kid, really, but they only ever saw him as trouble. And he was running out of last resorts.
Halfway through middle school, all at once, Sally got sick, Gabe croaked, Percy got kicked out of another school, and someone granted him a full ride to a boarding school that would have him. (Rumors were maybe--maybe--his dad had something to do with it, whoever he was, but there’s no proof of that.) At long last, school stuck. For the first time, Percy had friends, did okay enough in his classes, made his way through with hope for a future.
Sally remarried--a good man this time, a high school teacher. Percy, against all odds, graduated high school (as captain of the swim team, at that!), and enrolled in college (Sally will insist she always believed in him, but she was surprised by that one, too). He’s still gods-awful at school, but he’s doing his best. He has no idea what he’s majoring in, if he’ll even scrape by at all. He’s still on the swim team, he’s drawn to the seaside, he spends his days wondering if he’ll ever catch a break; if he’ll ever be able to prove himself. Percy knows he was meant to do something--he just doesn’t know what.
𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓  𝐖𝐀𝐒  𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐑  𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐒  𝐅𝐈𝐑𝐒𝐓  𝐍𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐄  𝐀𝐁𝐎𝐔𝐓  ?
he’s underwater. he can breathe, or he thinks he can--he knows he should be able to. but this water is different, darker, deeper. it is subsuming him and suffocating him, and he feels himself washing away in pieces. the current swallows him up, and he is forgetting who he is, where he is, why he is. it’s dark, so dark. his body is boiling, feverish, burning up, but the water itself isn’t all that hot. he wants to scream. the only sound he can make is a muffled choke. there are monsters in his periphery, the detritus of lives, the lost echoes of souls. but, from the small of his back, he feels a tug. he sees a blonde girl on a dock. he sees-- he sees--
nothing. it’s so dark.
he can’t breathe.

confused. a little bit afraid. and, somehow, hopeful? there’s been something missing his whole life, and, there, just out of reach--there it is. percy knows he’s good at something. he knows he has a purpose. he feels stronger around water and always has a pen on him, no matter how hard he tries to lose it. he just has to figure out what it all means.

TLC Second Generation (Wolflet)
Unlike Cinder, Scarlet had the easiest pregnancies in the world. She has a miscarriage between the first and second child, but other than that, it was ridiculously easy for her to actually get pregnant. They end up having three kids. Much to Wolf’s dismay, Scarlet refused to stop working on the farm while pregnant. He was only able to convince her to stop lifting heavy things when she started the third trimester, but even then she would just tie a rope around said object and drag it. Wolf was still frustrated, but Scarlet always says, “I’m not lifting it!” so he couldn’t argue her on it.
Lovell Logan Kesley is born on 29 November 131TE
His first name literally means “little wolf” in french. Scarlet mentioned it to Wolf with a smug grin and a sparkle in her eyes, and he just couldn’t say no to that face. Logan is after the grandfather Scarlet never knew.
Lovell gets his mother’s brown eyes and his dad’s dark hair, but with a slight red tint. His skin is tanned and olive like Wolf’s. When he’s older he’s more muscular and broad like his father, but he doesn’t get his height.  Lovell maxes out at 5’11”
As the eldest of the Kesley family and one of eldest of the Rampion kids, he’s the most responsible. He takes on the Mom Friend™ role very quickly.
Most of the time he’s quiet and reserved like his father, especially around strangers. But once in a while when he gets really excited about something and he’s comfortable enough around someone, he’ll talk their ears off.
He’s organized to the point where it annoys his siblings (and sometimes parents). He cleaned the barn and organized all the tools and parts they had laying around, and constantly reminds everyone to put things back in the right place.
Also very punctual. Hates running late for things because he’s so big that he’ll stick out like a sore thumb if he comes into class late.
He begged his parents for a piano for his birthday for a few years and they finally caved. He’s been playing it ever since and is absolutely fantastic at it. As the oldest, he’s technically set to inherit the farm one day, but he dreams of being a pianist and traveling around the world (and maybe even Luna) to play.
Scarlet and Wolf have absolutely no idea where their son’s music ability came from but they’re so proud of him.
Complains about having to do chores for a few minutes before because he’d much rather be inside playing the piano or baking with his mom, but stops to do them after that. You won’t hear him complain about it again until the next day when he once again has to stop practicing to do chores.
Yeah he loves baking too, and he’s really good at it. The family lemon cake is his favorite thing to make.
He’s not the smartest when it comes to traditional subjects, so school was a struggle for him, but he makes up for it with his musical ability and his kind heart.
He literally wears his heart on his sleeve like his mother. When he’s mad, they know. When he’s sad, they know. When he’s excited because he got into Julliard in the American Republic, they know.
Percy Montague Kesley is born on 3 October 134TE
They just liked the sound of his first name and it reminded them of the constellation Perseus. His middle name came up because Wolf found this play about star crossed lovers from the second era and really liked the name
He too gets Scarlet’s eyes, but also curly red hair that’s only a little darker than hers. His skin is a shade or two lighter than Lovell’s. He’s less muscular than his elder brother, but he’s much taller. He’s as tall as wolf at 6’4”
Gay™
Percy is more of a talker than his brother. He makes a lot of friends at school and is constantly going over to their houses or having them over to the farm. When he’s little, kids are scared of his dad at first, but they warm up to him fast.
He’s also known as the troublemaker of the family. Likes to play practical jokes on anyone and everyone--but not his mother, he wouldn’t dare. His dad, brother, and sister though? They’re all fair game.
Even though he’s a talker, he’s less open about his life with his parents than his siblings are. He confides in friends and Apollo, but never his family.
He also gets in trouble at school... a lot. He’s the only one of the kesley kids to be to the principal’s office. And he goes quite often. There are many reasons why…
Despite his middle name, the last thing Percy wants to do is read or act. He doesn’t want to play an instrument like his brother. He’d be caught dead before doing anything artistic.
Instead he likes physical activities. He likes to swim in the pond near the edge of the property, and run miles down the road just to see how long it takes before heading back.
He asked Wolf to teach him how to fight, and wolf agreed so long as he only uses what he’s taught to defend himself…. That doesn’t really work out though.
When Scarlet and Wolf realize that Lovell won’t want the farm one day, they change their will to give it to Percy and Jolee because they know they want it and will take good care of it.
Jolee Maha Michelle Kesley is born on 30 September 136TE
They decided Jolee’s middle names before her first name. After spit-balling a bunch of ideas Wolf mentioned Jolee because it means beautiful and with Scarlet as her mother then “obviously our daughter would be beautiful too.”
She gets Wolf’s striking green eyes. Her hair is exactly between her mom and dad’s in a beautiful curly auburn. She’s curvy like her mother, but a bit more muscular like her dad and brothers. Overall she lives up to her name meaning. She’s taller at 5’9”
Blatantly Bi™
The baby of the family and she hates being reminded of it constantly. Seriously. If Percy puts his arm on top of her head like she’s an armrest one more time she will kick his ass. And if Wolf tosses her over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes again, she’ll tell mom about that time she fell out of the tree when he was supposed to be watching her. Lovell and Scarlet aren’t nearly as annoying about it as Percy and Wolf are.
On the other hand the protectiveness is sometimes warranted because Jolee is a big risk taker (wolf argues that she gets it from scarlet).
She jumps off the barn into hay piles when no one is looking.
She goes way over the speed limit in the podship on the way to town.
She fell into the well on the abandoned farm down the road (but thankfully Lovell and Percy were with her when that happened).
She may or may not have snuck out in the middle of the night and camped in the chicken coop one night to shoot the coyote that was eating chickens when she was nine.
She loves their animals okay? Like, constantly wants to be surrounded by them. She loves to milk cows and feed chickens and cuddle up with the barn cats and read in the hayloft when she’s done with everything else.
Jolee is competitive. Family game nights get very dangerous very fast. She and Percy go for runs together that don’t start off as competitions, but definitely end that way. Same with swimming. They compete over who can do the most laps. She usually wins when swimming, but he usually wins when running
She and Percy also team up to pick on Lovell much to their parents frustration. Lovell takes it all in stride though, so it’s fine.

Percabeth Headcanons Pt. 3
•Annabeth has absolutely no fear of Percy cheating on her because 1) she knows how much she means to him but also 2) his fatal flaw is loyalty.
•He teaches her how to skateboard one day when they’re bored so now they’ll occasionally go to the skate park.
•Percy’s handwriting is big and kind of sloppy but still legible. He absolutely hates writing in cursive.
•Annabeth’s handwriting is small and neat, her cursive is flawless.
•Percy hates seeing her cry. They were watching My Girl and she started crying. It took all of his willpower not to cry with her, not because of the movie but because of the broken look in her eyes.
•Annabeth’s favorite ice cream flavor is chocolate in a bowl, just plain chocolate with nothing extra. She thinks cones are impractical because they’re too messy.
•Percy’s favorite ice cream is blue bunny, no surprise there. He likes it in a cone with all of the toppings you can think of. Half of them don’t even go together but he doesn’t care.
•Percy absolutely loves dogs. He always wanted one but he knew it wouldn’t work because he lived in apartment, it cost too much, and his mom was constantly working. For Christmas one year Annabeth, Sally, and Paul all saved up to get him a golden retriever puppy. They put her in a box with a blue bow and Percy literally screamed with joy when he saw her. They made a unanimous decision to name her Bianca.
•One of the days they were sleeping in, Sally woke them up. Only half awake, Annabeth said “Oh come on, five more minutes Mom.” She didn’t realize what she said until she saw Percy grinning like a lunatic. She started to correct herself but Sally told her she didn’t mind at all.
•Percy and Annabeth both began to love peanut M&Ms after their quest. Conner says peanut M&Ms are his thing and then just laugh it off. They haven’t told anyone that they eat them in memory of Bob.
•Annabeth sometimes makes him watch Rom-Coms with her. He makes fun of them the whole time and talks about how predictable they are, but she knows he secretly loves them.
•They both graduate from Goode High School, Percy chose marine biology as his major, Annabeth chose architecture.
•They tell people that they’re going to a small community college in California near her family, no one knows that they’re actually going to New Rome.
•Annabeth drags him along to see certain architectural works in New York, like the Statue of Liberty, the building on Wall Street, the Brooklyn Bridge, etc.
•They’ve ended up on the Kiss Cam and multiple different sports games before because they’re literally the cutest couple out there.
•They both have phones made by Leo and the Hephaestus cabin, they kind of needed them since they were in the mortal world for an entire year as teenagers.
•Percy’s contact name for her is “Wise Girl❤️💍”
•Annabeth’s contact name for him is “Seaweed Brain💙🤪”
•They went ice skating at Rockefeller center on Christmas Eve. They had it completely to themselves. Annabeth was an amazing skater while Percy could barely stand. She eventually got him away from the wall and they kissed in the middle of the rink when the clock struck midnight.
•Percy comes up with random puns. She acts annoyed when he tells them to her but is secretly trying not to smile at the proud look on his face for coming up with another one.
•They could both easily be popular if they wanted to. They’re good-looking, likeable, and nice when you get to know them. Annabeth has random girls come up to her in the halls for relationship advice, which she has none of. Percy is the best person on the swim team. However, they tend to hang out with the “losers” and they dislike the fakeness of all the popular kids.
•They were chosen as Prom King and Queen even though they didn’t apply. They’re like the OTP of the entire school.

ΩΩΩ
The next period was Lunch, so Percy and Annabeth were bound to see each other again. Even so, they were on a mission to keep their secret, so they tried avoiding each other's eyes for the beginning of lunch. However, their friends seemed to be on a mission of their own to expose their plan, whether they were aware of it or not.
At Annabeth's table, her friends were discussing her and Percy's little conversation in Greek class. At Goode, word spreads quickly when it involves Percy Jackson.
"Come on, Annabeth! What were you saying to each other?" Nora exclaimed, exasperated.
"It was nothing, and I didn't even really know what I was saying anyway. It was just a bunch of random bonus phrases you can get off the internet, ok?" Annabeth answered, looking down and playing with her food.
Her friend just stared at her with a raised eyebrow, "Annabeth Chase, the know-it-all, didn't know something? I doubt it."
Yeah...maybe playing dumb should be left to Percy. Even Annabeth was having a hard time forcing herself to act like she didn't know what she was saying last period.
"Whatever, it doesn't matter anyways. Just drop it," Annabeth ordered, letting her leader-voice drip in subconsciously.
Her friend looked a little taken aback, but another look from Annabeth silenced any protests.
"I still can't believe you even talked to Percy," Noah said, a look of fake wonder on his face, "I mean, you're just a nobody, and he's Percy Jackson."
Annabeth couldn't resist the urge to roll her eyes. Everyone thinking Percy was some kind of untouchable object was starting to get on her nerves. Sure, at camp, new campers seemed to practically worship them, but here? All they know about him is that he went missing for 8 months, came back different, and is amazing at swimming.
Mortals need to raise their standards on what's to be considered cool, that's for sure, she thought.
At the same time, Percy's friends, Mike, Jack, and Chloe were starting to interrogate their own friend. These three people were Percy's closest mortal friends, mostly because they didn't care about popularity. All they were interested in was Percy, not his status. And it was them that knew he didn't randomly have a full-fledged conversation with a stranger in another language.
"Seriously, what happened? I heard from the grapevine that you and somebody named Annabeth Chase started screaming at each other in Greek and it ended with you both getting suspended. But obviously, that can't be true because you're sitting here with us right now, so...what happened?" Jack asked.
His words seemed to silence everyone at the table, even the fake-friends. All were interested in the true story of what happened, even if it wasn't that big of a thing. Anything involving their popularity producer demanded listening-to. Or something like that.
"We just talked for a second. It wasn't that interesting," Percy tried to answer cryptically.
"But why were you talking to a complete stranger?" Chloe asked, joining-in on the conversation.
"She isn–We just finished our tests at the same time and started a little talk. I honestly can't even remember what was said," Percy said.
That was a lie. Percy remembered every word that was said, especially the end. But his friends didn't need to know that.
"Come on, man! Give us something! I'm starving for a rumor!" Mike exclaimed.
That caused Percy to glare at him and say, "Just drop it."
Mike's eyes widened in shock, and he looked like he was about to start a fight, but one look from Chloe, his girlfriend, silenced him.
Then, just like it had never happened, Percy went back to normal. He regained his signature troublemaker smirk and finished eating his lunch.
ΩΩΩ
Percy and Annabeth had separate 5th period classes, so they saw each other after another hour. The second class they shared was PE, and it was during 6th period.
As soon as the bell rang, signaling the end of 5th period, Percy was bolting towards the locker room. This was because today was the first day of the swimming unit, and everyone knows Percy is obsessed with water.
Annabeth, even if she did walk a little faster, attempted to hide her excitement. She speed-walked into the girl's locker room, grabbed her swimsuit, and changed as quickly as possible.
Unlike Percy, she had the sense to ask Lady Hecate if she could use the Mist to hide her more gruesome scars at school. That way she didn't have to explain why she had claw-marks running across her back.
By the time she was walking out of the changing room, the rest of the class had arrived, and Percy was waiting by their teacher, bouncing from foot to foot in barely-contained excitement. The sight brought an involuntary smile to reach Annabeth's lips, and she was forced to hide it before anyone caught her looking at Percy so lovingly.
She walked up to the teacher and joined them in waiting for the rest of the class to change. In an attempt to stay away from Percy's bubbly energy, Annabeth stood six or so feet away from him with a stoic expression. This was the face she wore when she was intentionally masking her emotions. It may have been a mistake using it at school, but it was a part of her, and a daughter of Athena should never be afraid of being who they are.
Once everyone had shown up, the teacher took roll and started giving instructions, "Alright class, today we're just going to be practicing basic form while doing laps around the pool. For those of you on the swim team, you can choose to practice some more advanced strokes, ok? Now, let's get a volunteer to show us a good breaststroke. Anyone?"
Percy literally jumped at the opportunity to get in the water, and before anyone knew it, he was performing a perfectly-formed breaststroke. The sight caused Annabeth to smirk and think, showoff.
Once he had finished showing off, Percy jumped out of the pool, careful to make himself wet, and walked back over to the group. He had the biggest smile on his face, and it was hard for everyone to not smile along.
"That was great, Percy! I see why they made you the captain of the team! You have a natural talent in the water!" their teacher said, not realizing how true his words were.
Annabeth and Percy couldn't help but catch each other's eye with a knowing glint in them. It was hard not to when the one person in the entire student body that actually knew the other was standing right in front of you.
Fortunately, it wasn't caught by anyone who cared to speak up. The only person who seemed to see it was Addison, and she didn't think it was necessary to put any thought into it at the time.
"Yeah. That's what a lot of people tell me," Percy said, shaking his hair out.
Little did he know, that little act made most girls in the room swoon. Percy was so effortlessly handsome, and he didn't even know it!
It would've made Annabeth laugh if she wasn't a part of the swooning. But unlike the others, she knew how to hide it. All that changed in her demeanor was her lips twitching up ever-so-slightly.
That little hair flip almost made her decide to call off the entire plan and just kiss her boyfriend. However, she was able to snap herself out of it before any rash decisions could be made.
The rest of the class was spent by Percy and the few other swimmers working on their own while the left-over students would work on their breaststroke form. Annabeth could've kept up with the swim team members, but she had no interest in doing so. The only reason she was any good was because she had trained at camp with Percy, and it felt wrong doing it with other people around. Swimming was something she did in the demigod world, and right now, she was in the mortal world. That meant that she was a nerdy new girl.
"Ok, class, go get changed. Class ends in five minutes," their teacher announced.
Everyone but the swim team members started to head to the locker rooms to take their showers, dry off, and change. Nobody was in any hurry because this was the last class of the day.
The swimmers stayed in their suits because they had practice right after school. They just grabbed some towels to dry off and that was it.
Annabeth was the first one to finish changing, and the bell hadn’t rung yet, so she just stood by the pool and the swim team members. They were in their own conversation, but as soon as she had walked towards them, Percy had drifted over to Annabeth. It was instinctual; he acted without thinking about it.
Percy did a lot of things that way.
Annabeth acted like she didn't notice his presence beside her, but he knew she could sense him. Demigod senses were too highly-tuned for them to not realize when someone was standing next to them. Instead of initiating the conversation, Annabeth decided that the best way to maintain their cover was to just keep staring at the water. Unfortunately, Percy didn't catch the memo.
"So...my friends keep asking me what happened in Greek," he said softly.
"Same. And it's your fault; it was your idea to race. Now there's suspicion," Annabeth said back, finally looking up at her boyfriend.
She had recently started to really appreciate the moments when she gets to look at his face head-on more. How, despite going through Tartarus, his eyes still held that happy glint. And how his mouth was always holding that troublemaker smirk. His eyes seemed to be sucking her in, and if she didn't watch herself, they would find themselves kissing without a care in the world for the people around them.
"It was so not my fault! You started it!" Percy's voice started to rise slightly.
"Quiet down! We need to keep anyone from suspecting our relationship," Annabeth reminded him.
Percy sighed, "Why do we have to do this again? I'm getting tired of waiting to kiss you until we're home."
"Remember, I promised you a reward for all your hard work tonight," Annabeth said in Ancient Greek in an attempt to keep her boyfriend from destroying all their hard work.
"Oh yeah...do I get to choose this reward?" Percy asked, not even realizing he was speaking in Ancient Greek, too.
What neither of them realized was that they were slowly starting to step closer and closer to each other in a challenging stance.
"Maybe...depends on what you want," Annabeth answered.
"I think I might have something in mind..." he said, drifting off into his imagination.
It was then that Annabeth finally realized how close the two were standing. Using her usual quick-thinking, she found a way to distract from what was happening.
Annabeth pushed Percy into the pool and stormed away.
She may be acting like she was mad, but she really wasn't. Annabeth just needed the newly-arrived rest of the class to forget about what had happened before. When she listened, Annabeth could hear people gasping and Percy sputtering in the pool. He had figured out that he needed to act like he had gotten caught by surprise and that he wasn't someone who could breathe underwater. He had also needed to focus so that he stayed wet.
The only one Annabeth's plan didn't work on was Addison, who had stayed in her spot, unmoving (unlike everyone else), and watched Annabeth exit the room with narrowed eyes. Addison may not know what was going on between Percy and Annabeth, but she did know that they knew each other, somehow.

Percy Jackson Headcanons
- he is the best one on the high school swim team
- the amount of non-athlete students at meets DOUBLED since he joined
- everyone wants to see him easily beat every single competitor
- people whisper about him
- some say “he’s cheating”
- others say “how can he cheat?”
- most people don’t know how he does it, but just go with it because school spirit, right?
- he’s easily one of the most popular guys at school
- most girls and some boys (sand probably some enbies too) have huge crushes on him
- they’re all jealous of Annabeth
- one time, a girl tried to flirt with Percy
- she was judo flipped by Annabeth
- no one tried flirting with him again
- when prom season hits, percy is stressed on how to ask Annabeth
- lots of people do over the top prom-posles so he thought he had to do one too
- he got a sign and put “I went with you to Tartarus, so will you go with me to prom?”
- he was going to give it to some fish and take her on an underwater walk and the fish would hold it up and it would be sweet
- but he forgot things get wet and the sign was destroyed
- percy ended up just saying what the sign said anyway
- he found a baby blue tux and wanted to go in that
- Annabeth refused
- but she did wear a beautiful blue dress and Percy had a matching tie
- obviously the corsage was blue
- on the first night of their last year at camp, Percy proposed
- Annabeth accepted (obviously)
- they wanted to get married before they went to college in New Rome
- so the last full day at camp was their wedding
- they had it on the boarder so mortal family could still attend
- though they did make sure Ares was sat there to kill any monsters
- all the campers can, a lot from Camp Jupiter too even.
- Piper, Reyna, Hazel and Thalia were all bridesmaids (Piper was the maid of honor)
- Grover, Nico, Frank and Leo were the groomsmen (Grover was the best man)
- Chiron officiated it
- All of the Olympians + Hades and Persephone came
- Annabeth didn’t want Hera there but she came anyway because it’s a GREEK DEMIGOD wedding and she’s literally the goddess of MARRIAGE
- Magnus came with his Floor 19 buddies, Hearth and Blitz
- Nico was shocked to learn most of them were dead
- Frederick Chase and Athena both walked Annabeth down the aisle because Athena insisted she did it but usually it’s the father
- Aphrodite released doves and one of them pooped on Hera which Annabeth was happy about
- the cake was a beautiful three tier blue velvet, chocolate and marble cake
- they didn’t sacrifice any to the gods because they were right here to eat it (Zeus *almost* threw a fit but then he tasted the blue velvet)
- their honeymoon was in a underwater palace that Annabeth designed, naiads built and Percy kept dry
- a few month after going to school in New Rome, Annabeth discovered she was pregnant with their first child
- Percy was so excited
- like more excited then he should have been
- at the sex reveal party (which Percy set up), Annabeth opened a box with blue balloons
- everyone was like “it’s a boy!” But Percy yelled “it’s a girl!”
- people were like ??? But it’s blue ??? And Percy was like yeah but girls can still like blue
- so yeah the baby was a girl
- her name was Silena Bianca Chase
- (yes Percy took Annabeth’s last name)
- when she was born, Percy dropped out of school
- he decided he would be a full time dad
- he wasn’t that good at school anyway and had no idea what he would do for a job
- when Silena became 11, they decided its time for her to go to Camp for the summer
- she was the first legacy to ever go to Camp Halfblood
- Chiron wasn’t sure if she should be put with the Athena Cabin or Poseidon Cabin
- ultimately, she was put in Athena, but they started constructing two Legacy Cabins, one for boys and one for girls.
- once Mr. D found out, he immediately demanded a third Cabin for anyone who didn’t exactly fit the binary
- Anyway, back in New Rome, Percy started working for Camp Jupiter in the summer while his daughter was away
- they needed a residential son of Neptune (Poseidon is close enough) to (pun alert) oversea their new navy
- percy helped design a small Navy if only five ships, one modern battle ship, one fishing boat, one sail boat and two speed boats for quests like he had when he first came to Camp Jupiter
- he taught a class on sailing which went great until he introduced the kids to the water and they were to freaked out to go on the boat
- he had to promise them that his father would not kill them
- eventually, the Romans warmed up to Neptune
- when a real child of Neptune came along in a few years, no one was afraid of her
- Percy actually lived a long life and had two more kids, Sally Zoë Chase and Luke Ethan Chase.
- Percy died of liver cancer when he was 67, and Annabeth died of breast cancer when she was 72.
