Dan Torrance x Fem! Reader

A/N: This request was submitted by @ateliefloresdaprimavera I hope this is to your liking. Enjoy hun!

Dan anxiously held his hands in his laps as he watched Doctor John stroll up to the podium to begin the meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous. This became a habitual thing for Dan now for the past 8 years but he just felt off today.

He attempted to brush it off as residual anxiety that lingered from his most recent and troubling visit with Abra but his gut told him that wasn't it. Someone unintentionally entered his head. Whoever the person was that caused the disturbance was not a stranger. They felt familiar to him but definitely had a certain dark edge.

"So before we begin we all remember the golden rule right?" All the members in the room nodded. "All that is said in AA stay in AA." They reiterated.

"Good." John slammed his hand down on the podium loudly, making everyone cringe as well as himself. "So who wants to start? How about you Miss? It's been a while since we've had a newbie."

The woman on the other side of the room bent her head down for a moment, rubbing her face to try and self soothe and attempted to sit up straight with semi good posture. "Y-yeah..I uh..I..Sorry, I'm not good with the whole interaction thing but uhm..my names-"

"Y/n." The word rolled off Dan's tongue like it was a sacred prayer before she could even finish her sentence. She looked up at him, a sea of confusion and self loathing gleaming in her eyes. She was deliberately trying to avoid him.

"Your name is Y/n." There was an open chair a few spaces away from Y/n and he moved over to it. Making sure to leave at least a fair distance between them. She was at the same spot he was at 8 years ago and could feel all the pain from it. The words 'The sins of the father always falls upon his children.' Was all he could think of in that moment.

He angeled his head so he could have direct eye contact with her, or at least as much as he could manage to get. "I don't know if you remember me but my name is Dan. We used to be neighbors at the apartment complex."

For a couple of minutes Y/n averted eye contact, staring off seemingly into space. She was more skittish than Dan remembered but still had the same looks. Despite the bags under his, despite everything she had went through, he thought she looked beautiful. "..your favorite sweater had Apollo 11 on it and your dad's name was Jack. Fitting because that's all he ever drank."

She swallowed deeply and fiddled with her fingers. Her mouth beginning to quench for the taste of a good margarita or beer. Even if it meant that it would kill or end her.

(It's the only thing that takes all the ghost away.)

'So she does still have it.' Dan shifted uncomfortably and coughed, his hands subconsciously balling up into fist. "Yeah, um..it was." Billy raised an eyebrow at him from across the room, this expression of amusement on his face and Dan returned the glance.

Doctor John scratched the back of his neck. He was curious about Y/n for sure but god, the tension in the room was unbearable."So..where you from Y/n?" She answered all the questions, trying to be as short as possible.

(You like her, don't you?)

Dan looked at Billy and folded his arms across his chest.

(She was my best friend when I was 5. Before my dad brought us to The Overlook for the summer. She was my 'girlfriend')

Billy examined Y/n up and down.

(She seemed a little..distant when remembering you.)

(I can't say I blame her. Our fathers used to drink together and her's in particular, got violent when he did. She'd never talk about it with me but there are some things you just don't need telepathy for you know?)

He nodded and turned his focus back to Y/n.

"..So Y/n, how did you and Dan lose contact?" They both knew the answer to that question and her face became flushed. Y/N's eyes searched the room almost as if she was looking for someone to save her. "I-i...I'm sorry. I can't." She stood up from her chair and grabbed her purse.

"Y/n..Y/n, please don't go. It wasn't your fault." Dan stood up in an attempt to stop her from leaving. "Danny p-please just leave me alone." Her voice sounded shakey, almost as if she was going to start crying. "But Y/n, I want to help you. Look I know how it feels to live with this stuff and it's not a hallucination, it's-"

He accidentally touched her wrist and she let out a blood curdling shrill. "GET AWAY!" She swung at him out of instinct and hit him straight in the eye. Dan let out a groan and put a hand on top of his sore eye that he knew was going to bruised in the morning. "Y/n! Y/n!" She only shook her head though and walked out the door.

Dan frowned and ran his fingers through his hair. "You okay?" Billy handed him a bag with ice for his eye. "Yeah I'm okay. I just really hoped that would of went better."

"You weren't exactly in the best shape either when you ended up in Frazier, Dan. Just gotta give her some time man. I'll help her get a job. A place to live.." He patted him on the back, giving his best reassuring smile. "I hope so Billy..I hope so."

"Uncle Dan!" Abra ran up to him excitedly and wrapped her arms in his middle tightly. Dan chuckled slightly and hugged her back. "Hey kiddo. How was school?"

"It was good. I got an A on my biology report." She grinned cheekily and released him from the embrace. "Oh my god. What happened to your eye?"

"Ah, it's nothing kiddo." She raised an eyebrow, almost as if to contradict what he said. "No really, it's nothing. I accidentally scared this girl and she you know..hit me eye."

"She cute?" Dan raised an eyebrow. "Does it matter?" Abra giggled and sat down on a bench. "No, I guess it doesn't but still, is she?" He debated on giving her the look but decided against it. "Yes, she is very pretty. Anyways-"

"Where'd you meet her?" He shook his head. "You're really not going to let me go off the subject of this are you?" Abra smirked. "Nope. So where'd you meet her?"

He thought a little bit before responding. "..a place only adults should have to be. Look-"

(So AA?)

Dan furrowed his brows.

(Sorry. The one time you and Billy were in the car together I accidentally peaked and..you know. I found out. I'm really sorry. )

"It's fine Abra just..Nevermind. That'll have to be conversation we have together later." Abra stared at him for a while, her eyes eventually going in the other direction. "..You've known her for longer than that though, haven't you?"

"Yeah..before I went to the Overlook as a kid. Abra, I know what happens when you get that look in your eye."

Abra just smiled. "Girls like it when boys are considerate. If you're not going to ask her out, which I really think you should, you should at least take her out to get coffee. You kind of owe it to her after the scare."

"Abra, I don't know if I'm ready for that. Or if she would even be okay with that..she's not exactly in a good spot right now."

"You weren't okay for a while too, but look at you now..it only takes one person to make a difference sometimes. Come on Uncle Dan, please." She begged.

"Abra, I don't know. She's been through alot." Dan slid away from her slightly. "Please?" She smiled as sweetly as she could manage. "..okay, fine. I will."

'No you won't. You're only saying it to get me off your back. So now I'm going to have play Cupid.' Abra thought then gave a fake happy squeal. "Yay! You're not going to regret it Uncle Dan. It's going to be awesome and super cute." He patted shoulder. "I'm sure it will be kiddo..I'm sure it will."

"Abra, you don't even drink coffee. Why do you want to go into a cafe?" Dan groaned as his niece dragged him down the street. "Because you look like you need some and there are other things there besides coffee that you can buy. Now come on!"

She had to get there before Y/n left. Because she knew Dan wouldn't do what he promised unless she forced him.

She stepped into the shop, making sure she still had a hold of Dan. "Why don't you get a table while I order?"

"Abra, we've been over this. Do you know what people think, especially locals, when they see a young girl like you with a 40 year old white male?" He whispered harshly, trying not to draw to much attention.

"Just relax and let me handle everything, okay?" Abra gave him a reassuring smile and Dan relaxed slightly. "Okay just be careful plese?"

"I will." She grinned and skipped off to the line. She stood firmly in place and closed her eyes. 'Y/n..Y/n.' At first she felt nothing. Then she heard a ping. It got closer and louder until it was finally blaring in her ear. A head blaster by all means.

"S-sweetie? Do you mind to move up please, because the line is long?" Abra let out an inner yell of excitement. She didn't even have to find her. Y/n came walking to her.

"Sure, sorry I was spacing off." Abra scooted up a smidge. "You're Y/n, right?" The older woman's face looked confused. "..yes, why? Do I know you?"

"No, but you know my Uncle Dan." Y/n looked flabbergasted. "You're Dan's niece? I-i didn't know he had any siblings."

"He doesn't. Or at least I don't think so. I'm his honorary one." Y/n just gave a slight courteous nod. She wanted to get out of there. Still hating social interaction even if it was with a child of all people.

"You know my uncle really likes you." Abra treaded over to the counter slowly and placed her order. "D-does he?"

"Mhm. You don't look like you have anyone else here with you. Do you want to have coffee with us?"

Y/n stiffened uncomfortably. "I don't if D-Dan's going to want that..last time I seen him was kind of rough." She blushed out of embarrassment. "He'll get over it. Now come on, I got two coffees for my two favorite adults."

Y/n's eyes widened. The little girl had been planning all of this out. Abra reached out to touch her hand and Y/n recoiled.

(It's okay.)

Y/n's face softened. By now she should of been all flustered yet she felt so at ease. She couldn't remember the last time she felt that way.

(I know it has to be scary but it's all going to be okay I promise.)

Abra gradually extended her hand out and Y/n took it gently in her own. Letting her lead her over to the table.

"There you are. I thought you were having a hard time-" Dan looked up from his magazine, his face turning red. "Abra!" He tried his hardest not to raise his voice. "I thought I told you to leave her-"

"It's fine Danny." He met Y/n's eye. "I can't avoid you forever and it's not like you're going to go away." She tried her hardest to make the words sound gentle.

Dan covered her face and sighed, his elbows folding up the lace table cloth. "Abra, can you give us a few minutes. Please?"

"Yeah." She handed Y/n her coffee. "It was nice meeting you." Y/n smiled shyly. "Nice to meet you as well, Abra." She took her seat across from Dan, keeping her eyes on the teenager to made sure she got out okay.

"She's a sweet kid, you got to admit that Danny." He nodded. "Yeah, she is..and clever at playing cupid too." He muttered the last part softly and Y/n giggled.

"I'm sorry by the way..for what I did to your eye at AA." Y/n took a large gulp of her coffee. "No, no. It was my fault. I pushed too far and I..I just..I really miss you."

"I miss you too." She frowned slightly, her eyes starting to water. "I never forgot about you Y/n..I just didn't want to hurt you. Because I knew what you were going through at home and I had my own mess to take care of and-"

"Dan, you don't need to apologize to me. It's okay." Y/n reached her arm across the table. Flinching slightly as she took his hand. "It's okay, I promise."

He held her hand tenderly. "Did he leave?" Y/n shook her head. "I ran away from home. My mom died and my father got worse..he tried to touch me Dan and it hurt so bad." She began to sob.

"Hey..hey." He moved over so he could hold her. "I'm so sorry." People in the cafe were looking at them like they had five heads but he didn't care.

She gripped onto his shirt like a child and buried her head in his chest. "I couldn't take it anymore so I ran..I ran as far as I could." Y/n let go of him for a moment to wipe her eye.

"Then some man and a woman in a jeep picked me up on the side of the road. Offered me something, I can't remember what but I told them and they begged and pleaded but I said no and the next thing I knew I woke up on the side of the road in Colorado a couple of miles away from a bar and I couldn't stop from there."

Dan rubbed tiny little circles on her back, trying to sooth not only his worries but her's. He'd have to ask Abra later if she knew how The Knot recruited people.

"My father died in accident a few months after I ran away but he wouldn't leave me alone. Because wherever that sick bastard had, I had too so the drink was the only thing that could take the pain away."

"I'm sick, Danny..but I want to get better. I really do." Y/n's eyes had a truthful gleam in them. "And you will. I'm going to help you. Me and Billy. I'm not going to let anything happened to you."

(Or let you out of my sight again.)

Y/n's eye looked hopeful yet wary. "You trust me, right?" She nodded her head and he pulled her close.

For the first time in a while she didn't flinch and completely relaxed. She knew she was safe. "Dan?" Her voice came out like a whisper. "Yeah Y/n?"

"I think I love you." Dan grinned and hugged her tight. "I love you too Y/n/n..I love ya too."

AGAIN BUT BETTER booktalk

THIS WAS SOOOOOOO AMAZING!!!!!!!! This book was all I ever wanted/needed and more I love it with all my hearth and it is by far my favourite book! If you haven’t read it yet plese do!!!

First of all I want to say that I am incredebly proud of Christine, I have been watching her videos for years and I watched her write this book in her writing videos and reading it now I feel like a proud mum! I expected it to be good but I never imagined that it would be THAT GOOD, I want to thank her for giving me this story, it means so much to me and I am more than thankfull.

I wanted to read this book the second it came out but I couldn’t because I had so much to do for school at that time and than other thins came around I wanted to read it when I was completly realxed, when I could enjoy to the fullest. And now I know that I didn’t got to read it than becau I was meant to read it NOW. Back when it was released, I hadn’t been to Rome and Paris yet and now that I have I related even more to the book because I also viseted all the places they went to. I think the universe just wanted me to read it now because now I needed it the most. I think that was a smooth introducton, I am now going more into deatal because there is so so much I want to say, I took so many notes while reading because I didn’t wanted to forget anything. I wasn’t sure and I still am if I realy want to post this because this book means so much to me and I don’t want to ruin anything by laying all my thoughts into a text but I just watched the q & a she posted about the book and I mean she would never read this but say she would somehow I want her to know that she has done so much for me with this book!

So lets start from the beginning... I related so much with Shane trough the entire book, it was like reading my own thoughts, I have never ever related to a character more than her. She said this I would say and did things I would do not to start with her thoughts I don’t now it sounds silly but as Christine said in the q & a video I felt like I was the character in the book and it was both scary and nice, well more nice than scary because I could watch Shane grow and come out of her comfort zone and do all this thins showing me that it is possible and it makes me want to do thins too. It was just ahhhhh so so good and sooo beautiful!!! Words and in genral this text don’t do justice to what I feel and what I felt about this story.

Especially in the beginning when Shane started doing those little thins like asking that stranger to take a picture, I was so proud of her for having the courage to do it because I often don’t and I was so proud of her every time she did those little things not to mention the big ones like finally talking to Pilot about her feelings.

There were so many paralles to my own life in this book that yet again made me think even more that this book is for me and not only the fact that I related so much to Shane and the Rome and Paris things it was just everything!

One of the things I loved most about it were all the refrences about books, music, movies, Tv shows, youtube... all the references, they made me so happy, everytime I understood a refrence I was totaly freaking out with excitement! Especially the one with her Professor’s name, Blackstairs like I died it was the best thing!

And the jokes god the jokes I was laughing out loud so many times! I can’t say it often enough, it was just perfect everything I wanted in one book!

Obviosly I loved that most of the book took place in London cause I love London and it is a place very close to my heart but the traveling they did, GOD I looooovvvveeeee traveling so much and when they were just like spontanusly deciding to go somewhere it made me not only happy but I want that too I want to just say that I want to go to that or that place and just do it! And the photos they took and the fun they had like I was genunly crying seeing them having so much fun, there is such a beautiful exciting and lovely experence to go travel with your friends and take fotos and have fun! Those times are the ones I love looking back at. When I think about the happyest moments in my life I imediatly think about the times I was traveling, disovering a new citiy taking fotos and evrything.... SOOOO GOOOOODD

I loved Babe and I loved that they were such good friends and I loved that she was so passionat about Disney and that her dream job was to work at Disney World like how often do you see that!!! That is so incredebly cool!

In generall I really loved the whole group and how they spend time together! Shawednsday was the best thing! And I got so sad thowords the end of their semester when they didn’t had that much time to spend together where they kind of drifted away, the saddest part was when she sepend the spring brake alone that was hearthbreaking ( I am so glad she got the chance to do everything again and make it right)! Ah and I loved how Atticus and Sahra started reading the books Shane recomended that was so sweet! I would have loved tho to see a little more of Atticus and Sahra, Atticus seamed such an interesting character and I loved how he was the who tried to help Shane after what happened with her parents.

Pilot, lets talk about Pilot, the minute we met him I got all giddy, I like him, I love his name and I love that he writes music! I enjoyed his conversations with Shane so much, their deep talks and I loved him in Paris take two so so much and at the very end in Edinburgh like that was the sweetest thing ever but I have to say tho he was so frustrating sometimes! Like jkfgfkjhgkh it was sooo clear that he had fealings for Shane and I understand that it was complicated with Amy and I get that sometimes you don’t realy now what you want but bjhdsbchsd and than when the time travel happend I understood that he didn’t know what to do and that he wanted to go back and that all was scary but it was so frustrating!!! The way he acted and how he freakt out like plese Pilot you have got a second chance here to make things right plese take it is so special plese don’t ruin it! I was more than happy when he finally understood that. I was so happy for them but I must say while in Paris take two I was a little suspicios I knew something had to go wrong and when the thing with Amy came out I was soooooo disapointed in him I was so mad at him! But he managed to get me because let’s be honest here I couldn’t be mad at him and he is so cute and he did all those cute things! I loved how he treied to help her when they where having dinner with Shanes parents I wanted to hug him so bad for that!

Speaking of Amy I do feel sorry for her but I don’t know she should have let Pilot go when he asked her to before he went to London. And she had no right to read Shane’s notebook but again it is undersandeble that she did and I was mad. For a second tho when I read that scene, before Shane released that she was reading her notenook I was like awww Amy is a reader too she likes reading, well that thought flew away quiclly...

Ok lets come to the red haied woman, I don’t want to say that I knew that something was up with her but when she apeared at the Starbucks I just knew that she would do something I want to quoute myself here, I took this note when I got to that scene: “ SCREEEEEMMMMMIIIINNNNNG the red haired women has done something! Fairy??? Wizard? Witch??? Holy crap!” I also just want to point out that I somehow imagined her looking like Cassandra Clare I don’t know why but to me this woman was Cassie!

The time travel thing was soooo amazing and so beautifuly done I have never expected it happen but I am soooo gald it did. I loved that caffe, I imagined it looking so cool! And I love time travel, like one of the books that made me a reader was about time travel and having it in this book made it even better than it already was! I loved how she did it with the elevator and everything I got so excited when all of that happend because when I got to the part when she was interviewing for the residency I was so sad and I stared crying because I was like well this is real life you don’t get the things you want and you don’t get to be who you want to be thats the reality and I got so mad because I realised that people, including me are so dump sometimes not taking chances and say and do the things they want!!! I was so sad that she lost those years living with regrets but than the time travel happend and she got a second chance and I couldn’t have been more happy!!!!

I loved how confident she got after the time travel, how she did everything different, that she decidet to talk to Babe about Pilot that she didn’t let herself give up un her dream about writing because of her parents and that she did such a good job at the internship I was soooo proud of her and I still am. I got scred when Pilot first wanted to go back and than when she wanted it too but I am so glad they stayed and worked thing out, that she found the stranght to make things right again and finnaly live the life she wanted and the life desereved. I cried when her article got published and I cried in the end reading the epiloge seeing her succed as a writer and even seeing him succeeed as a musician it was the best thing! Oh but I also love that they got to keep the memories from take one!

Oh heavens when the realisation hit me that the title “Again but better” was refering to doing London again and the things with Pilot and not college in general as I thought in the beginning like wow that moment was just wow!!!!

I brought up her parents a few times now I think is time to say a word about them too so I understand that they want her to have a good future but the way they acted was so wrong I didn’t liked them at all! I loved how in take two she proved them wrong!!!!! When they had dinner in take one I was crying for Shane that was so intense I felt so incredebly sorry for her but looking back the fact that she succeded in take two made it even better!

I already mentioned that I loved Shane and Pilot in take two well I already loved them but I mean as they got together, their little jokes and the move thing and lamppost thing that was hilarious!!! And god I loved when they filmed the youtube video together, how they sang together that was soooo cute I loved it so so much!! And his speech at the end in Edinbrough like o my god and the one in the epiloge I just couldn’t I was crying all the way!!!

I was so sad when I finished, I loved every second of it!!!! It is such a special book for me and I will treasure it forever!!! Somehow it feels good to write all of this because I am sure in a few years I am going to read it and be very glad I wrote it while the memory was fresh. Speaking of fresh, it’s been two days since I finished it and I am not ready to let it go yet, I still can’t remove the book from my nightstand nor can I start another book, it still has to sink in, I am not ready for anything new, I love it to much to let it go so soon!!!

This corona virus really sucks.

The saddest thing is that I see homeless people sleeping in the rain.

Los Angeles has become a nightmare.

I have concluded that both the Democrats and Republicans are all corrupted.

We need to make a government we can trust.

Someone who knows how to stop the corona virus.

When trump came into office, over a million people lost their health insurance.

How are u guys?

I know alot of people have lost their jobs.

I went to rite aid pharmacy . Pharmacist tells me that their 25 yr old pharmacy tech died of Corona.

He was in perfect shape.

The guy had kids!!

But we cant just give up.

We need to fight this shit!!

We need to help strangers

We need to help the old get food.

I can t even leave my house

How about u guys?

On the other hand , I finally have been able to force myself to clean. The house.

I have been going to AA meetings on Zoom.

So me and my friend david have been making music on zoom.

We also started a comedy channel.

I am very grateful to have so many Facebook friends.

But me and dave are both disabled

I am ok to say that I have PTSD.

My parents had the worse divorce.

I also had a divorce.

My ex wife was a victim of child abuse.

It is sad to say that she broke my knees.

Because i wouldn't give her all my money.

But in AA, we Learn to forgive.

My higher power is my mom.

Good news

I can't believe it is now 5000 Facebook friends!!

Some of our fans even created a hip hop fanclub for borderline delusion.

Also a metal channel.

We just need a disco and Spanish fanclub.

But I want this channel to be for everyone.

Life is so short.

Hi! I'm really interested in seeing Human Cas as the end of his arc, and I've seen that you have one or two opinions really cool about that too so I was wondering if you would elaborate what you think of it?

Hi! Man, that is one complicated question! Thanks for giving me the opportunity to talk about it - this is going to be a bit long and quite possibly overly nerdy, so I apologize in advance.

First of all - as @thejabberwock said last week, the idea that Cas needs to become human in order to complete some kind of character development or be worthy of a human’s love or whatever else is slightly horrifying.

Interestingly, this whole theme - supernatural creatures giving up their identity to find love - is not some old mythology trope, because in Western mythology and folklore, love between a human and a supernatural creature simply doesn’t work, and there’s no way around it. On the one end of the spectrum, you’ve got your god/human relationships, and there what happens is generally a) human spies on god’s true form, dies horribly, b) god tries to do something nice for human, kills him horribly in freak accident, c) god’s friend gets jealous, human dies horribly, d) human gets pregnant, dies horribly, e) human has a lick of sense, turns down god, is raped or turns into a tree, or f) love story is disregarded because the important bit is that a hero is born, and behold. On the other end of the spectrum, you get your selkie/fae storylines, and I keep seeing posts on tumblr like Don’t hide your selkie’s pelt, #trust and #respect, and I’m sure OP means well, but that’s plain bullshit. The whole point of those stories is that you can’t change your fundamental nature, and those creatures may love a human for a time, but ultimately they belong in their own realm and that’s sad and heartbreaking, but also how the world works. So, if a selkie finds her pelt, she will desert her family even if she truly loves her human husband (and often she does: that’s the tragedy); if you sleep with a sidhe, she’ll probably come back as a pregnant doe and deliver a human baby for you and then fuck off, because she can’t help it; and in the rare cases (I know only of one) where a fae is actively trying to deny the call of the wild to be with you, well, you’ll fuck it up, because that’s what humans do (and plese, do ask me about it - that story is too long for this post but is also the best story EVER). So, well - traditionally, this stuff doesn’t work, but I’m not sure it has to do with racism and cautionary tales - after all, there are plenty of stories about men marrying princess ‘from beyond the sea’ and whatever - I think we simply know in our bones that when it comes to the divine, we’re outgunned and we should be very careful - and sticking your dick into something that’s been alive for five centuries is not a good way of being careful.

So, long and winding introduction aside - if a supernatural creature giving up their immortality to be with their human lover is not a mythology trope, where the hell does it come from?

Well - in part, it comes from the other part of our humanity: fairy tales. Now, unlike myths, fairy tales are more about teaching good behaviour than God and the afterlife, and what tends to happen there is that men are pushed to become more of what they are, while women are invited to become less of what they are (just as it happens in real life). In fairy tales, men leave their houses and their countries, pretend to be noblemen, make use of magical objects, lie through their teeth, fight outsized opponents and ultimately end up with a title and a bride. Women, on the other hand, generally keep their eyes down, accept shitty gifts gratefully, clean when they’re told to, and put others first. Giving up a piece of yourself in order to belong - that’s not what gods do; it’s what women do, and this propaganda has been so successful that we all live like that, mostly without even realizing it - we accept that our life is ours (sort of) only until we become mothers or wives; and then we put aside our own ambitions and focus on our husband’s and kids’. In this sense, it is telling that a selkie - a creature of folklore and myth - will go back to the sea and fuck you very much, but the girl who lived in an apple (an old fairy tale from Bologna), like many of her fruity friends, is freed from the enchantment when she’s eighteen - and she promptly marries the prince who’d been obsessing over the mysterious hottie who came out of his fruit bowl every night.

It’s also important to stress, however, that traditional fairy tales are only partly at fault for our selfish asses wanting angels and selkies to drop everything and cook us dinner every night: much of the blame (if not all, let’s be honest) is on Andersen’s The Little Mermaid - where, let’s not forget about it, what the mermaid wants is not only love, but also an immortal soul and access to the Christian Heaven - stuff monsters like her don’t have. And, well - I think in time Andersen’s tales came to be seen as some universal thing, when in reality they were very personal nightmares of Andersen himself - a tortured, unhappy, repressed bisexual man who’d been abused in his childhood and presumably tried to get past his own inability to have a fulfilling emotional and sexual life by writing overly grotesque and decidely anti-women stories.

(We all know about The Little Mermaid, but another highlight would be Red Shoes, in which a selfish girl who has the nerve to go to Mass wearing red shoes finds they are enchanted and can’t stop dancing until her feet are chopped off with an axe; charmingly, the heroine is named after Andersen’s half-sister.)

If we consider this precedent, I think what @thejabberwock said is spot-on: for Cas, becoming human includes some element of self-mutilation: just like the little mermaid had to give up her voice and her family, Cas would lose something irreplaceable by choosing to leave Heaven behind. And also - narratively, that choice would frame him as ‘the woman in the relationship’ once and for all, because male heroes just don’t do this stuff; and that, in my opinion, would be a huge loss. What I find so fascinating about Dean and Cas slowly falling for each other is the careful balance of traditional gender roles and how neither character is boxed in; how Dean, our muscle car and hard rock hero, is often pushed into what would be the woman’s role - only he’s not pushed at all, but walks there willingy, and that’s plain spectacular.

That said, the SPN universe chose to frame the opposition between humans and non humans has been framed in a slightly different way from traditional storytelling - even if the narrative isn’t always coherent.

So, if we’re talking specifically about angels, the original idea is that angels 1) don’t have free will and 2) can’t have feelings like a human does - a point that is clearly implied in the first one, because true free will and the ability of make your own choices are the fundamental prerequisites for forming your own opinions - and feelings. Now, in theory, it makes sense that angels wouldn’t have either; despite the daydreams of some truly adorable fanart (Gabriel holding baby Cas, for instance), angels aren’t born; they’re created in order to serve God, and that’s their only mission. Heaven started to unravel only because God left, and this is where we see the SPN narrative starting to fray - because their angels generally have both free will and feelings. From Zachariah’s refusal to serve humans to Uriel betraying his brothers to Gabriel’s anger and Balthazar’s insouciance, there’s not a robotic servant of God in sight, and I know it’s objectively difficult to write feeling-less character who are also engaging, but I always found that all those angels wishing things for themselves sort of cheapened Cas’ own journey towards humanity. Because, well, Cas becoming human only makes sense, in my opinion (and this is how the story’s being framed), in an I want to make my own choices and experience love kind of way, but in this case - from what we’ve seen, both with other angels and with Cas himself, it’s perfectly possible for angels to behave and feel like humans do, so why would Cas need to give up his Grace?

Another point is that Cas’ already given up his ‘angelhood’ in every way that matters. He’s rebelled against Heaven, he’s refused orders, he’s been tortured and silenced and imprisoned, and he’s chosen humanity (Dean) over and over and over again. Hell - as far we know, Cas isn’t even interested in God any longer, and surely heeding God’s will is, like, item one in the job description?

(By the way - Cas’ reaction to God’s coming back - that was important, show. What the hell were you thinking about? How is it possible that the subject was never discussed again? Uuuuugh.)

Furthermore, Cas hates being human. He’s tried it before, and we know he didn’t like it - at all. The storm of emotions, the need to look after your body, eating and drinking, the acute knowledge of not being powerful enough to defend yourself and your loved ones against dangers you know are there - Cas does not long to become human; what he wants is to belong, and what he needs, narratively, is the possibility to make a choice that’s not either/or - to be with the Winchesters not because Heaven hates him and not because he’s got no other friends, but because he feels loved and welcomed and wants to live with them 24/7 (feels he’s worthy of their love) - so, if anything, that’s where his character arc should be going.

As a last point - something that will never happen but would be absolutely hilarious is the David Eddings solution: in his novels, an immortal sorceress chose to renounce her powers and her eternal life to be with the (fully human) man she loved, only to find out her soul couldn’t be ripped apart like that and instead, the gods had chosen to grant her beloved immortality and powers of his own. I always found that a very sweet twist and a good compromise on the whole mortal partner + immortal partner = heartbreak thing, and man, it’d be so much fun to see Dean turn into an angel out of the blue and zapping himself all over the place by mistake as he learns to fly (and later using that ability to freak out Sam and check on Claire and have dinner with Jody). A girl can dream, right?

(All that said, I understand why so many writers, myself included, keep making Cas human in one way or another: for some it’s a question of fluff and hurt/comfort, and for others a chance to explore this tragedy, this impossible, unconceivable thing: an angel choosing to Fall for a human being - an angel choosing to love, fully and unreservedly, the mess and chaos and guilt and bad dreams that we all carry deep in our hearts. Just - wow.)

False County Court Claim Against Me on My Car Insurance?

Someone has put a claim in against me for damages, for an accident I know nothing about. It is from early 2010 and has been going on since then. I have been contesting it on the grounds I have not been involved in an incident, however the third party solicitors have issued County Court proceedings against me. My insurance company are saying they are putting in a defence and have provided a barrister. I am really annoyed with this as I know I haven't been in an accident. Insurance not paying a claim!?

Boy this is a good one & I don't know what to do Next! I went with the Lizard insurance even though they are Snakes and don't want to pay for any Claims! It started in 2010 with my truck, I took it to where they told me and they only paid for cosmetic damage even though there was a lot more including my steering was so bad I had to stop driving it. I wanted to take it to a shop that I had my truck lowered which because of we're I lived and the shop was I couldn't drive it, 65 miles. I had AAA tow it to my new house and from there after 2 years of not driving my truck they agreed to have it towed 7 miles to the shop. Well I told the claims adjuster what was wrong, he told me I needed to write a list and drop it off at the shop so I just got my Chopper back from the shop and went down to where my truck was a wrote a list of what I thought was wrong. Here is where the first of my troubles started, on the way home I am riding on the freeway and a truck to the right of me had a blow out and a Giant tire flew right in front of me, I couldn't do anything other than to run it over. It happened so fast, I hit it and made a brown spot in my shorts, jk. I then noticed smoke coming from my Chopper, it was Bad so I pulled over and noticed that my tail light was knocked off and caused some damage and the bold that holds my tail light on came off and rubbed on my new Avon 250 tire and Melted the side wall. I was able to ride home and once I saw all the damage I knew it was a problem. I called the Lizard and made a claim. The claims adjuster called me and said he will be out that Saturday, so saturday came and I never heard from him, I had his number and left a message, so this went on until Thursday and I called the lizard again and they transferred me to the AH boss and I left him a voicemail. Well I didn't hear from him as a few more days went by so Called back and got his boss's boss. The next day I got a nasty voicemail from the claims adjuster bitching at me. I called customer service and told them he went off on me and they can hear my voicemail too but no one listened to me. So I was told to call his boss, I said then I don't want this claims adjuster to come out, I don't want to speak to him or have anything to do with him. They were so sorry and said they totally understand and later that day the big boss called and I told him I hadn't heard from the adjuster other than a nasty voicemail and I want someone else to come out and not him. The boss said I understand and he will take care of it. So two days later the rude claims adjuster showed up at my house to take care of the claim, I was shocked it was the AHole I didn't want to come out but his bosses boss told him he better get out there and take care of this. Well once he was there, he wasn't as nice as he had been and couldn't be more rude than he was. I told him what had happened and the Damage, all he said was Prove it, Prove it, Over and over with everything I showed him. It caused major damage to my shocks and front forks, he laughed and said they are designed to roll over things and that it couldn't happen from hitting a tire in the road, well it can because that's exactly what happened. He was such a AHole I said, why did you even come out, did you just come here to be a @ss Hole or what!! He didn't say a word and just left. They paid out just a little for damages to the paint, tail light and the tire. The tired was new and cost 500 but they paid me 100 bucks for it. Mean while my truck is at the shop still to get looked over for the damage and they didn't pay a dime and the worst part was when I got the truck back from being towed, I started after the tow truck drive let it down and it sounded funny, then I smelt burning plastic so I opened the hood and my entire air intake system was gone!!! The burning was th vacuum hoses laying on the headers. I called the shop where my truck was and they said they are not sure what's going on but to call back. Well they are no longer in business and I lost all that so I called and opened a claim, now they are investigating me over this. So I have damage from 2010 that has never been fixed, my bike isn't right and someone had stolen my Volant cold air intake that's not being taken care of. What do I do? This is BS, I don't deserve this from my insurance Company and for them to treat me like they have, not pay out the claims. I needed my truck smoged Dec 31st so because all the parts to have it smogged weren't there I couldn't have it down and I have a ton of late fees with the DMV in California. My Volant is smog legal, I have the Ca numbers for it but it doesn't matter, I am getting the run around like no tomorrow. I will Drop GIECO and go with Farmers but not until my truck and bike are fixed. I have called everyone I could at Geico and no help!""

I was involved in a car accident in Sept 2009. I sustained low and upper back injurie, left side shoulder and neck and severe headaches. I was able to find a lower rate of around $600 a year through the Ohio Fair Plan website by assuming a realistic replacement cost of $60,000 and not including such things as jewelry coverage (she has no valuable jewelry), and other coverages that don't make sense. Unfortunately, and after contacting several insurance agencies, not a one will write the coverage as specified. The gave me the flimsiest of excuses. I'm an older full-time college student and my husband works full-time at Walmart. In the past three years, I've been through 4 cancer related surgeries, which were paid for by the breast/cervical cancer Medicaid program. Unfortunately, follow up care and monitoring aren't covered and I was dropped from Medicaid. I'm now on my husband's health insurance, which is basically worthless because our income is under $20,000/yr and the policy has a $4500 deductible plus 20% after. I haven't seen my oncologist for over a year because we can't afford the expensive scans, biopsies, and lab work associated with cancer follow-up with a deductible that high. I thought my situation would change in 2014 with Obamacare. I recently learned from the healthcare.gov website calculator that our income is low enough to qualify for expanded Medicaid (which our state decided not to expand), but I don't qualify for the health insurance subsidies I desperately need because the outrageous deductible health insurance from my husband's job covers spouses. How can a couple with an income so low they would qualify for expanded Medicaid be ineligible for subsidies? I am completely devastated over this and I don't know what to do. Not being able to afford cancer follow up care is putting my life in danger. Even if my husband's employer (Walmart) quit covering the spouses of full-time employees, I think that would only apply to new hires because of the grandfather clause. If getting subsidies was based on income alone the way it should be instead of access to employer provided coverage, I would qualify for a zero deductible policy and $3 co-pays with a monthly premium of around $60. I could then afford the expensive health care I need. We live in a college town so if my husband got a different job, he'd make even less than he does now and we would probably end up homeless. If my husband transfers and we move to a state that's expanding Medicaid, I'll have to quit school and get rid of my German Shepherd and Siberian Husky since it's almost impossible to find a landlord that allows them. We thought another option might be to get a divorce on paper and co-habitate until our situation changes (completing my degree and getting a good job so I can afford the deductible), then re-marry. When I asked about that, someone actually accused me of wanting to commit fraud! How can anyone think of something like fraud when a situation is endangering someone's life? I asked tesco if they could reinstate my policy due to some fault with the payment, which does not seem to be my bank they say that cancelled policy cannot be reinstated and suggest to pay 230 for the period that they were trying to collect and open a much more expensive new policy. They also told me that I face penalty because my car is uninsured now. I would like to reinstate the policy as cancelled unfairly and at the same time I need to insure my car quickly to avoid facing penalty. So, my brother got into a car accident about 3 years ago. He was driving his car and a motorcyclist ran into him doing around 90 mph, causing the bike to flip and the guy on the bike to dismount and skid across the freeway. The motorcyclist was lucky he didn't get run over or killed. It was deemed by both the insurance companies that it was the motorcyclists fault and when the motorcyclist tried to sue our insurance company, we got a letter from our attorney that the case had been dismissed and no further action was needed. Today, we got a call out of the blue from Mercury saying my brother couldn't be on the insurance anymore because they had settled with the motorcyclist for $100,000 and basically, if we didn't get him off the insurance, my whole family would be removed. We didn't receive any notification that Mercury was planning on paying this guy out or that our rates would be altered. We called the attorney's office but he wasn't in and we explained the situation and the receptionist said they might of just settled anyway without letting us know even though this whole thing wasn't even my brother's fault. My question is, if the accident was the fault of the motorcyclist and when the motorcyclist initially sued and was denied a settlement (there was no mention of a settlement on the attorney's letter; it just said that it was dismissed), how and why would Mercury give this jacka$$ $100,000 and deny my brother coverage? If I get a tiny scratch on the rental, they may ask me to pay for that, or will they? Please what are my options? The rental will take MY credit card for godsake ( I understand--I could just go sell it etc), but I do not see why I should be liable for even a tiny scratch, if I don't have that coverage for my own car and am happy to keep driving my own car that way- I will not be able ot drive my car a week or so while it's in the shop. I got in an accident eariler this week. I went to turn a corner and hit the brakes too hard and hit a Prius coming up to a 3 way stop. I admitted it was completely my fault but the thing is I dont have my lisence or insurance so I was fined a total of $1224 plus the damages to my moms car and the car I hit and aparently medical bills now too? I asked the lady after I hit her if she was okay and EMS was on scene and asked her if she was okay and she said she was fine but now Im getting a call from her insurance company stating I have to cover medical and vehical damages and I really have no idea what to do. I dont understand how this lady thinks she can possibly get any money out of me. My moms disabled and not working.
