one of the reasons i really like the concept of saiteru (bc it can get some bad rap) is simply bc i think they’d be able to bring out the best in each other
i feel like both of them would be able to wholeheartedly be themselves because and would fully know there would be no judgement from either side and they could trust each other
the fact that saiki has known teruhashi’s true self hidden beneath the perfect persona and still stuck with her the whole time is very telling and would be comforting to teruhashi bc she would know he wasn’t just there “for her looks” and because he loves and knows her true self and loves her for her.
likewise teruhashi was one of the first people to really see saiki for who he was breaking away from any of those fantasy saiki’s, the most notable mention being in the mixer karaoke episode where she comments on how saiki would just sit there in silence with a blank look on his face. No extravagants, no saiki falling for her, just him.
in addition to that there’s the scene where saiki watches her push herself past her limits trying to impress all the boys to the point where she faints constantly wishing she’d just stop and when she doesn’t, saiki puts himself in the center of attention to catch her. Then alternatively, teruhashi tells the boys she forgot her place in compliments, smth she’d originally never do, and ran out to go thank saiki, thus choosing saiki over her image which is super important to her.
and for saiki, knowing that teruhashi has had to hide parts of her personality for the sake of the perfection mask, it would be easier for saiki to shed his mask himself. And we’ve already seen through flashback scenes and just saiki’s own judgement that her and the rest of his friends would be completely accepting of him.
idk i just love them, i like to think they’d both be comforted knowing the other likes them for they’re true selves. plus the dynamic between the two is so funny. The way they’re both on equal playing field when it comes to little schemes btwn the both of them, and whether saiki will win or teruhashi is always up in the air. But working together they can pretty much pull off anything.
i just like them. sorry this was long i didn’t mean to go into a full length character relationship analysis lmfao. i know ppl are going to disagree w me on this and that’s totally fine and valid i just wanted to put my thoughts out there a bit lol

mm momsger high au. i didn't mean to misspell that. inspired by this post from @tobisiksi . sorry this took so long i had everything written out and then tumblr Deleted Everything even tho i had like two backup posts.
i tried to include everyone i could and give all of them unique monster types but there are some repeats :( ib sowwee i tried to make them unique when i could tho. lmk if u have any suggestions for characters or different monster types.
ALSO HAPPY HALLOWEEN!! i have to work but im going dressed as saiki so i still have the spirit
Saiki Kusuo - Lovecraftian Eldritch Horror
i mean. duh.
he poses as his own (human) worshipper to avoid being indoctrinated elsewhere
"i can't attend, i have worship tonight." "oh that's cool who do you worship?" "they don't like being talked about." "ohh so it's an... invite-only system. right......"
deciding now that closed worship systems like saiki purports are generally a total Scam and people avoid them like a plague. it fits with saikis foray into the internet lol
hes still sooo silly dw
to the people with the eldritch kusuo headcanons, i see u..... i hope u like monster high........ :)
Saiki Kuusuke - Cult Worshipper (Human)
bet you thought i was gonna say mad scientist. WRONG that's his day job.
kuusuke operates as a mad scientist since humans aren't allowed into the monster world (afaik humans arent even seen outside of jackson, who is half monster). idk what he makes tho. maybe he pulls a doctor finklestein and makes bone animals to roam the monster world?
kuusuke is the one who got his family into the monster world btw. i mean he definitely found it p quickly after kusuo started morphing and speaking in tongues and shit
kuusuke would LOVE the monster world, at least at first. he might get bored really quickly, but he'd love being able to be more of a crazy bastard than he already is
kuusuke functions as a head cultist for kusuo, but instead of strengthening him with sacrifices and praying for protection, he weakens him with sacrifices (the limiters) and prays for himself to be smote (kusuo to play games with him) (kusuo ignores him a lot)
maybe he made amp/anpu like he did warp. idk.
Saiki Kurumi / Saiki Kuniharu - Cult Worshipper (Human)
they were 100% human before being dragged into the monster world due to their sons
they basically live the same as they do in canon tbh i dont think a lot would change in the monster world
during the new years chapter maybe instead of saying kusuo has powers, they say something about his eldritchness or how glad they are to "worship" such a chill god. god i wanna write this now.
Kaidou Shun - Vampire
okay so not ACTUALLY a vampire but i think it was nopsi who had like an au where kaidou was like a weaker version of a vampire?? GOD i dont remember the name (hampir?? i cant find it on wikipedia, did it start with an f????). for all intents and purposes, im just gonna consider him a weak vampire
i cant remember if he'd be made thru a human/vampire relationship but if he was then i think we should play into the manga hair colors of his siblings and say that whole toki and sora and his mother are all full vampires, he was half vampire (perhaps he's from the father's side of the family from a previous relationship, since his mother has purple hair in her manga cover i think??)
draculara has her red drinks and her spf and her cute little parasol so OF COURSE kaidou has all of those as well. i think it would be very funny if kaidou had his umbrella customized to look like a hidden anime weapon, but it wasn't waterproof so he has to use a different one when it rains
i have a gen 1 og draculara from when i was a kid and i love her she's so cute :] someone draw kaidou in her outfit he'd slay. actually, just draw all of them in her outfit(s). gloom beach teruhashi. sweet screams mera. freak du chic saiki. sweet 1600 saiko. fearleader hairo. you cannot make her look bad idc.
Nendou Riki - Zombie (Frankenstein's Monster type zombie)
okay so this might be controversial but imagine:
everyone's chatting like normal, nendous head falls off, everyone goes deathly silent, nendou puts it back on and goes back to talking, cue kaidou screeching
bc im rewriting this im not gonna go thru my thought process so my idea was that takeuchi was a mad scientist who created midori after himself bc he only had access to a mirror (neither realized they looked the same). takeuchi died and chouno, who was smitten with midori, remade takeuchi who midori named riki and chose to raise as her own. chouno intended it as a poetic final goodbye but cut to 16 years later and hes still not over her lol
nendou being undead could also play into his appreciation for life.... protecting the obviously smaller and weaker saiki and kaidou.... his care for his dad that he never met (altho he might have two dads in this au?).... THE HAMSTER SCENE. NENDOU :((((
Teruhashi Kokomi - Tomie
im SORRY for bringing up junji ito but come ON
for those who dont know tomie, she's basically So Beautiful that men are supernaturally attracted to her until she drives them mad with her beauty. they cut her up and scatter her remains and they turn into more tomies
however. teruhashi isnt just a pretty girl. she's The Perfect Pretty Girl. so we can just ignore all the bloodshed and murder and deathmatches :D
i debated making her a siren but that just doesn't fit her for some reason. she doesn't have to try.
in op's post they made her aphrodite reincarnated but i don't think that there are gods walking amonst the student disembody unfortunately
Teruhashi Makoto - Intersection Bishounen
IM SORRY THE TERHASHI SIBLINGS JUST FIT JUNJI ITO SO WELL
the intersection bishounen is a vengeful spirit that roams the streets and gives fortunes to young girls that drive them to suicide, after which they come back as ghosts and beg for his affection.
makoto is more of a teenage/ya heartthrob than a vengeful spirit tho so we can get rid of all the cool stuff like fortune telling and driving to suicide
the intersection bishounen also didnt want to fuck his cousin so points to him
Hairo Kineshi - Fire Elemental
i KNOW he's BORING
think of heath. i think heath is like the son of hades or something idfk i say fuck that ive never heard that before until i started getting back into monster high that's not canon to me
theres... a surprisingly low amount of sports name puns :( there's casketball, ofc ofc, because mh is american. there's monster soccer from toralei's ghoul spirit notebook, but baseball and tennis from clawdeen and spectra dont get named so they dont have names. thats BULLSHIT btw someone who's good w puns help me im freezing up
gilda goldstag was also a fire elemental right? i dont actually know anything about her other than that she was in the student council bc she was in the doll pack
theres a wind elemental mentioned in spectras ghoul spirit notebook. figured that id mention it idk
i have nothing else to say this should be obvious
Mera Chisato - Shouku-jinki
okay i need to preface this with something that is very important to me about this, the Japanese creature the jikininki/shoku-jinki originated in the story of musou the preist. as far as ive been able to see, there is a second story featured on wikipedia about a pregnant woman that is legitimately someone's fucking oc insert. im not making this up, it appeared one goddamn day and i dont want to make an acc just to get rid of it but i dont want to have my ip address just There and i dont know how to like draw attention to it. so please know that the story of musou is the only legitimate source of the jikininki and the "jijinki" are just someones fucking oc inserts. i dont know why they did this, i dont know how it's still there bc its been YEARS how has no one removed it??
anyways im calm now.
jikininki (or, iirc the more modern version is shoku-jinki) are demons that were greedy or impious in life and were cursed to wander the earth forever starving and thirsty. at night, they eat dead bodies.
sooo remember how mera acted when she got her money back for a day.
her death was the cause of their bankruptcy, maybe they put all their money towards avenging her?
i think that mera would come from a half human, half monster family so she could already be in the monster world, but i dont have to worry about what powers she'd have due to being a monster.
her mother would be a demon and her father a human who doesn't quite know how to navigate the monster would, so he still has to go away to earn money. also imagine four kids following mera around, three have devil horns and taiks and one is just some guy. (idk if she has 4 siblings but you get the idea)
so yeah, mera is immortal, unable to feel satisfied by any amount of food or drink, working herself to the bone to provide for her siblings. the mera lore is Strong w this one.
u could totally also go for some real body horror with her if u wanted
Yumehara Chiyo - Ghost
ill go into the difference between ghosts and souls in toritsuka's part since you cant take away toritsukas thing but you cant just remove ghosts from mh
i initially thought of making her a cherub/cupid but girlie would be getting No One Together. also there's only one cupid in mh and uhhhh there would be no hope if that was chiyo. yk what chiyo loves tho? gossip. u know what spectra loves? gossip.
i think the ghosts in mh all have a chain motif iirc? ik spectra does but sirena von boo also does (the siren/ghost hybrid) and i dont know any other ghosts off the top of my head
anyways yumehara is totally just a regular people ghost. maybe she cries blood or somethin fun like that? maybe have a bit where she keeps getting told off for having makeup and its her eyes leaking or its her having anti blood leaking drops or wipes
Saiko Metori - Mummy
i was gonna make him a vampire but HELLO??? CLEO IS RIGHT THERE????
rich, bratty, self-centered?? DE NILE IS CLEOS LAST NAME.
idk if him being a mummy would change him like cosmetically, like skin tone or hair texture or whatever but i cant draw so that doesn't quite matter to me. altho ig hed probably just look like a pale, dehydrated, brittle pile of bandages if you wanna be historicallty accurate
his father glows because he's ra next question
he definitely decks himself out in a looott more gold than just his earring as a mummy. bangles, cuffs rings, anklets, hair accessories.
the bodyguards are just the tomb protectors that cleo gets as slaves
he gets a custom made desk of pure gold at pk and he never uses it
i think in ancient egypt married couples would be buried together regardless of if at least the wife was dead or alive, so he definitely propositions teruhashi to take a sand nap with him
he gets a pet crocodile. he has a tiger in canon i think and cleo gets a snake so like. nile crocodile obviously.
i cant tell if he lives in a pyramid just randomly in the middle of hidari wakibara, or if theres a bit about nendou asking him where his pyramid is and saikos just like "bro i Dont Live In A Pyramid."
Kuboyasu Aren - Werewolf
hello?? violent, tragic past that comes back to haunt them regularly and interfere with their daily lives?????
i dont think werewolves can turn into wolves in mh but like if you want doggy kuboyasu who's as big as kaidou, go for it
KUBOYASU WITH DOGGY EARS AND A TAIL.... i dont think that werewolves in mh have tails but thats. a crime.
kuboyasu can smell the rest of the cast. god i wanna know what they smell like in the non weirdest way possible.
i dont have a lot to say about this. doguyasu
Toritsuka Reita - Cult Worshipper (Human)
okay so there's a difference between ghosts and souls in this version. ghosts are a form of undead that are sort of just humans that can float and go thru walls and stuff. souls are the base forms of dead people that remain chained to existence with no knowledge of who they were. normal people can see ghosts, but not souls. toritsuka can see both
toritsuka was also raised in a temple in this au, pretty standard stuff. nothing interesting there.
:)
so yk how toritsuka found out abt saiki thru the souls
and yk how saikis an eldritch monster that melts mind and twists reality to his will in this au
toritsuka does not know the meaning of the term eldritch btw
if ur a torisai or toritsuka angst fan then u can always imagine toritsuka thinking himself inferior to the rest of the pk psychickers bc he's a human and didnt even find saiki by himself, but with the help of his ghosts. sorry i gotta push the torisai agenda.
i personally also hc him to be hypersexualized by the adults in his life due to his touchyness from a young age which lead to him being ostracized by his peers when he began repeating the behavior, thus encouraging the development of touch starvation that he misinterpreted as horniness. in other words, "damn bitch u live like this?". sooo do with that what u will in this au.
(could saiki like..... taste his desperation??)
Aiura Mikoto - Cult Worshipper (Devil)
basically aiura but with cute devil horns and a tail that reacts with her mood. she 100% bedazzles and paints her horns like she paints her nails.
shes still a prophet and stuff but like shes just a lil demonic now. as she deserves.
"yeah i can totes check ur future!!" (rips open a portal to the underworld, chants in a forgotten language, focuses in on one damned soul that writhes and screams for mercy as it withers out of existence where it will wait to be reborn into hell after being offered the temporary reprieve of total nothingness) "babe ur bf is cheating on u like one hundo percent. but ur gonna be a bomb ass doctor one day!!"
i want her to trip toritsuka with her tail
she's not human and she lords it over toritsuka's head when they fight for saiki's attention
Akechi Touma - Cult Worshipper (Human)
initially i wanted to make him a bugboy bc yea but consider
saiki knew him in elementary school so he pulled a real I Tracked Down My Childhood Friend Who Is Actually An Eldritch Monster Masquerading as a Pretty Boy with Pink Hair in a High School?!
yeah soo like what if their dynamic was "what if we were friends in our childhood years before you had to leave to stop the uncontrollable desire you had to break down my reality and drive me into irreversible madness, yet despite knowing the danger i faced i still hunted you down, my prayers meant solely to get a response from you devolving into genuine reverence, solidifying myself as your most loyal devotee...... haha jk. unless?"
we all know that akechi likely faced no difficulty finding the monster world dont even ask
you can insert ur own hcs with his mom all ill say is that shes probably masquerading as some sort of cult worshipper or jekyll/hyde situation to live in the monster world. or maybe he just moved schools and lives sort of nearby but not in the monster world idk
akechi would fucking Love the monster world. he'd never get bored of it. you know the sweet potato scene? oh, honey, he's got access to information about the average size of different monsters, along with the influence of proportions and size, magical interference, etc etc. hed fucking LOVE the monster world.
Satou Hiroshi - Ghost
ive already got three ghosts (see suzumiya and makino) but i couldnt think of the Most Generic monster but hear me out
he's a sheet
hes got two black or cut out circles for eyes and a little 'o' for a mouth. just fuckin 0 。0 .
HES SO. USELESS.
SO PLAIN.
SO BORING.
SO GENERIC.
SO. PERFECT.
and saiki is IN LOVE WITH HIM.
toritsuka is honestly so offended that he is not the ghost-themed object of saiki's affections
satous friends and baseball team are either the core basic monsters (werewolf, vampire, zombie, etc) or theyre basic japanese spirits. im. not doing tons of research on if there are generic japanese demons or if theres just sort of one kind of demon that has a lot of forms,,,, im so sorry i can only do so much research please correct me if you know better
Rifuta Imu - Catgirl
i dont know what the name of the actual catgirls are in mh (werecats?) like purrsephone and toralei and meowlody but fuck it catgirl
she would have THE cutest collar. OR she'd have a ribbon around her neck w a matching one on her tail like catrine de mew. she could maybe even have some sort of shredded piece of clothing like catty noir's skirt or a habit of shredding things
im sorry i dont know a lot about cat breeds so i dont have a lot to say about her species
cat themed accessories.......
btw she's a cat bc of japans obsession w cats. i considered making HER a siren since i scrapped that idea for teruhashi but i feel like it just. doesn't suit her.
Bonuses (people i couldnt find that much to talk about)
Suzumiya Hii - Cursed Soul
i mean what else would she be.
okay so shes not a SOUL shes a GHOST i just think it sounds better like that
Makino Arisu - Ghost
ring-style ghost. i think it's called a yuurei? i did my research for her but i forgot it and the og post got deleted so. im upset.
Matsuzaki - Headless Horseman
idk what is his horse would be i just wanted bloodgood to have Presence in this and the principal is only seen like. three times.
i considered giving kuboyasu the status as headless horseman bc of his motorcycle but g1 bloodgood did not serve that much cunt for her type to be given to a 16 year old im sorry
(i also recently got a bloodgood as my first doll when i got back into mh and i love her :] she came w a cool coat that isnt her og coat but its nice anyways)
Chouno Urkyoku - Mad Jester
okay so ik i said he was a mad scientist but he retired that in order to go into entertainment. it's not going too well.
you could also go for a ringmaster/clown route but we all lived thru 2016 (or was it 2017?) and the ensuing cliche-ifying treatment the media gave scary clowns put me off them personally lol they kind of bore me
(if u don't live in the us or don't know what im talking about that happened in 2016, then god i envy you. just look up "2016 clowns usa" im sure you'll figure it out)
Michael (Ikemi something I think?) - Zombie
idk it just fits him
zombies in g1 can only communicate thru moans which makes them nonverbal in some way but g3 STOLE that from us. fuck them.
Nendou Midori / Nendou Takeuchi - Frankenstein & His Monster
i explained this in nendous thing im not repeating myself sorry
PK Principal - Gorgon
yes its bc of the glasses
also i think theres something fun about being able to say he can rule the school with an iron fist (or ig rock fist) without needing to use his eyes
Kongou - Minotaur
big strong and VIOLENT. you can also play into manny's more delicate side with kongous change of heart after saiki helps him realize what matsuzaki does for him
Takahashi - Goblin
idk i think it just suits him
Shima - Changeling
her whole bit is being a forgettable face so what if she was always just a Little Bit Different every time you saw her
Iridatsu family - Mummy
okay ik ive already done mummy but HEAR ME OUT.
idk abt the mom but i think it would be funny if yuuta was just covered in bandages and his whole thing is tripping over/hitting people with them
The pervy teacher who wasn't actually pervy at all he just had an unfortunate face - Human
he's not even disguised as anything
the monsters saw him and said "nah im p sure he's one of us" and then took him
teacher doesnt quite care cause the monster world has better health plans /j
The "your manga artist is gnc af" guy - Kitsune
kitsune are typically seen as elusive tricksters which doesnt suit his character BUT
theres a whole joke about japanese mangakas being worked to the bone to provide chapters every week or so for serialization even going so far as to hide or make excuses as to why they did not complete the chapter
i feel so bad for them bro i could not (used to do weekly updates for fics for 5 years before i started needing money bc i turned 18)
also. someone give that man fox ears and a tail.
The Alphonse guy - Invisi Billy
idk what invisi billy is but he can be here helping alphonse hide from the shame of his chunnibyou :D
Makoto's rival guy - Banshee
it just. Suits Him.
idk if there are male banshees bc we only know sarah screams and her mom but we can have a trans icon if we need

Saiki x Aiura relationship headcanons!
I really love their dynamics and I think they truly are soulmates like Aiura saw, whether that is platonic or romantic (in my head it’s romantic okay?)
~~~~~~~~♡~~~~~~~~~~♡~~~~~~~~~~♡~~~~~~~~
→ antisocial boyfriend and way too friendly for her own good girlfriend ugh I love this dynamic
→ aiura paints his nails yellow and hers pink to match each other’s hair
→ kusuo pretends to hate it but he keeps them, careful not to chip them
→ would get annoyed if anyone pointed it out tho
→ their first kiss was actually initiated by kusuo, since aiura respected his boundaries and waited
→ they were on the rooftop talking and toritsuka had just left for the bathroom. kusuo just stared at her until she noticed and pecked her lips softly
→ she couldn’t talk to him without stuttering for a while lmao
→ kusuo doesn’t like pda and aiura doesn’t really care about it, everyone knows they’re together anyway
→ they have dates at home, with lots of dessert and movies and Saiki’s wearing his germanium ring
→ that makes it easier for aiura to sneak a kiss on his cheek, enjoying the little pink dusting his face more than anything
→ they’re both very stubborn
→ if they fight they probably won’t ever admit they were in the wrong
→ a few days of anger will pass until they’re back to normal
→ mrs. Saiki is ECSTATIC, she always asks Aiura to do tarot readings for her and her husband
→ kusuo invited her to his grandparents’ for Christmas without his mum even suggesting it
→ for his family that practically means they’ll get married
→ aiura would buy those matching butterfly rings that are a trend on tiktok
→ and kusuo would pretend to hate it but ended up wearing it on his ring finger
→ got mad when aiura didn’t wear hers on her ring finger
→ subtly changed it when they were holding hands and she wouldn’t stop teasing him about it
→ aiura said ‘I love you’ first after five months of them being together and Kusuo was so surprised that he didn’t even finish his jelly
→ he said it back with a whisper in her ear, talking with his mouth for the first time in forever
→ I think aiura has the coziest bed with hella pillows and fuzzy blankets, so they have sleepovers every other saturday
→ and then they wake up and stay cuddling for hours before they decide to get up and have some coffee
→ talking about cuddles, kusuo is really touch-starved I think, so he gets so happy when aiura snuggles into his chest after a long day
→ he likes being the little spoon more tho, he just enjoys being in her arms
→ she has a few pictures of them on her wall and he has a polaroid of her in his wallet( ◠‿◠ )
→ in terms of jealousy, she gets jealous more easily, but she knows she can trust him
→ Kusuo on the other hand, if this boy gets jealous it’s over
→ once saw a guy from school stare at her boobs and made him transfer schools
→ the only time he’d have to resort to pda would be if they were out in public and everyone’s thoughts were about how beautiful she was
→ aiura pretends not to notice, but squeezes his hand softly and gives him a reassuring smile
→ I feel like they’d have pretty steamy make-out sessions every once in a while since they’re both very intense characters idk
→ aiura would even convince him to go on a double date with kaidou and aren bc kusuo is just THAT smitten that he’d accept anything she said
→ overall really healthy together, always doing fun things and enjoying each other’s presence
~~~~~~~~♡~~~~~~~~~~♡~~~~~~~~~~♡~~~~~~~~
drabble of how they got together!
“Why does Toritsuka think we’re dating?” Kusuo barely raised his eyes from the cheesecake in front of him, but he knew he fucked up somehow. Yes, he did let Toritsuka think he was dating Aiura, but in his defense, he was acting like a pervert again. Kusuo was definitely not jealous.
‘No idea.’ He shrugged.
“It wouldn’t be because you got jealous, would it?” She grinned and sat across from him on the table.
‘You’re funny.’ He let out a scoff.
“If you wanted to be my boyfriend, you could just ask.” She continued teasing him. Kusuo looked up at her with the faintest grin on his face.
‘Want to be my girlfriend then?’
“Huh?!”
‘Lost your chance.’
“Wait, wait!” Aiura chased behind him, slamming on his back when he stopped abruptly. “Are you serious?”
‘What would you say?’
“Yes, obviously! And it’s not funny to play with–”
‘I’m serious then.’
“Well, won’t you walk your girlfriend home?” She exclaimed, tapping her foot on the concrete ground impatiently. Kusuo turned around, a genuine smile and a pink hue on his cheeks decorating his face.

Saiki k trans headcanon-(warning head canons about period)
(This is mainly b/c I don't read many fics about trans people on their monthly. So I figured I would write a head cannon board on this idea but, warning I am not trans. And many of these experiences are mixes between my issues and a few friends issues. If this monthly cycle grosses you out, this is not the headcanons board for you.)
-Saiki was can only born a girl and changed his gender but, for this I'm gonna share my personal head canon he still has lower female séx organs.
-because if this he still has periods which he started getting all the way back in middle school. And when it did happen it was hellish.
-before he had never really been bothered much by what gender he was born as after all he could change it at will but, the second this happened, he felt waves of dysmorphia and shame.
-he doesn't know why he feels shame but, something about the whole process makes him feel ashamed. Almost as if this was a dirty thing to have since no one ever talked about it like at all.
-this is also when his third school change happens. The first two were because of his psychic abilities. As for this one, well let's just say they weren't very accepting of Saiki having this issue.
-Thus results in Saiki being beaten up for the first time in his life, having been in so much pain from cramps that he couldn't use his powers right. So he comes home bruised and bloody hoping not to run into his mom, which thankfully he doesn't. Instead he runs into his dad. So he figured this will all just be swept under the rug.
-His dad had been talking and getting soemthing before looking at his son. He took one look at his son and freaked out. He began bandaging all his wounds and asking what happened. Saiki told him everything and was just so surprised when his father marched down to the school demanding those boys be expelled and when they refused, he pulled Saiki out of school.
-It was one of the only things Saiki can remember his dad doing by himself to help his son out. He can also remember the ice cream they got for him being such a good boy afterwards.
-this keeps happening however. By the happening, I mean the ice cream trips or snack runs. When Saiki is on his monthly his dad will take him out one night and buy him whatever snacks he wants without telling his mom. Granted he's seen him do the same thing for his mom, but he is grateful for it none the less.
-for some reason feels shame when going to by sanitary products so steals some free ones from school every now and again to keep his pers from knowing.
-this also results in a 5th school change when the beating up incident occurs again just as he goes into high school, where he meets all his friends that we know from the show.
How Nendo finds out:
-the numb skull never caught in for four years which Saiki was happy about. This meant Nēndo would often find Saiki snapping at him more commonly once a month than other weeks. Not like he seemed to mind much though. To Saiki it almost seemed like he liked being yelled at or something.
-of maybe he just didn't deserve a good friend like him.
-All these thoughts are swept away one day in gym class. It's at the end of the day and he feels the cramps begin as he feels warmth on his legs. So needless to say Saiki is a bit grossed out and distracted. He doesn't notice Nēndo watch him run into the bathroom. Instead he's more nervous about a stain on his clothes.
-He gets in a stall and sees the mess. And let me tell you it's bad. Everything is wrecked and he definitely can't use toliet paper to clean it that fast.
-Saiki tries to focus in teleporting or doing anything but, the cramps are so painful that he can't focus on anything except the pain. It's so bad he actually whimpers. After all this is the one time a month Saiki feels anything human and mainly all he can feel is pain.
-how unfortunate for him Nendo walks in just to heat his whimpers of pain.
-by then his friend is in a panic asking what he needs. Saiki just yells at him to leave hoping to sneak out soon. Yet, his friend just stays demanding to know if he's hurt whish Saiki refuses to tell him. So Nendo does the smartest thing his mind can come up with.
-HE KICKS IN THE FRIGGEN DOOR SEEING SIAMI IN ALL HIS MESSY GOLODY AT THE MOMENT
-when he does the room is silent for a second. Just one before Saiki kicks him out and locks himself back in. He can hear Nendo rush off as he just cries. He can't help it, this is when he's the most human and the most powerless. If Nendo wanted tom he couldn't probably hurt him really bad.
-so he expects boys breaking in to beat him up. Or you know make fun of him. Or maybe worse. It scares him to think to much about it but, what he doesn't expect is what looks like a fresh pair of big clothes and some sanitary products sliding under his door.
-he also definitely doesn't expect Nendo to explain he told the teachers he was sick so he could go home an extra few minutes early. Heck he even offers to go get him pain meds if it hurts that bad. The bit is just a saint and all Saiki needs.
-Nendo walks him home that night and brings him any snack he wants after school for the rest of that week.
-from then on Nendo brings any snack Saiki wants, that is a reasonable price, to his house if he needs it. He even picks him up sanitary products if he needs them to.
Shun has no brains:
-shin find out in the oddest way.
-he and Saiki are hanging out on a weekend and he noticed he is a but more grumpy than normal. Yet, he ignored it and keeps trying to have fun.
-or at least he did until Saiki doubled over in pain in the middle of their walk. Shun helps him up only to see a blood stain on the back of his pants. Saiki realizes it at the same time too and before he can even get a word out shun is panicking. Why?
-because he thinks dark reunion has just shôt his friend in the private's.
-Saiki actually has to calm him down and explain it slowly. Then again. And again. Eventually the fifth time around Shun understand that Saiki isn't in moral danger and is just in a lot of pain.
-Saiki doesn't expect much for him. After all he doesn't have to put up with Saiki when Nendo isn't around.
-Yet, Shun shows up with everything his mother said helped her on her monthly. He brings like 7 heating pads to the house and so many comfort pillows. It's sweet but, it's obvious he had no clue what he is doing but, at least he's trying.
Reito's kinda sweet:
-Reito gets told about Saiki's is she in class one day by a ghost. One who burst in to beg him to help Saiki.
-why?
-Well he's stuck in class and can't find an excused to get up. If he doesn't get help soon his secret will be exposed to the entire school and the poor ghost doesn't snag him to live through so much embarrassment.
-Reito at first is shocked but agrees to help. He had no plan really and asks to go to the bathroom only to stop at Saikis class, and convince toy fall outside it. He pretends o be injured and gets Saiki to take him out of class.
-once they get far away enough Reito explains what is happening and Saiki is mortified. He just wants to curl up into a ball and die, but Reito refuses to let him do so. Instead he stays by his side like a puppy dog all week to make sure he's okay. And if Saiki so much as flinches, he's on his toes helping him do whatever he needs to.
Aren is a guard dog:
-aren finds out about Saiki's monthly problem in a different way.
-Saiki is walking home for once in a day his monthly starts. Things have gone well for once. So nothing could go wrong..until it does.
-he runs into the people from his old school. You know the ones who beat him up for who he was. They start shoving him around, bursting him up a bit before pushing him to the ground. Before he can even react a cramp hits him the same time the main bully's foot connects with his gut.
-the other bits join in and they get 7 good kicks in befoee Aren goes full guard dog on them.
-He beats them all to a bloody pulp before chasing them off. Once they're gone he helps his friend walk home. Where he refuses to leave Saiki when he eveals he's all alone for the next two hours. Instead he helps wrap his wounds and tells him to change.
-Saiki is touched. We all know he wouldn't admit he gets attached to people easily but, well he feels close to Aren in thta Moment. So before he goes to change he just blurted out he's trans to Aren, who reacts pretty well.
-In fact, when Saiki explains his current body issues, Aren washed his clothes for him and even offers to let him borrow his.
-from then on when his cycle starts, Aren will come over and wash clothes for him like he's a king for everything he's done for him since Aren got to the school.
Hairo feels guilty:
-it does not click why Saiki brings his bookbag with him to the bathroom so often. So he asks him in front of all their friends at lunch one day.
- yeah Saiki runs off crying and Aren almost beats the crap out of him.
-Nendo breaks them up and explains the situation tohim before going to help his best buddy.
-Hairo feels so guilty that he gifts Saiki anything he thinks he might like every month for the rest of his high school career, even after Saiki forgives him.
Teruhashi calms him down well
-one month his cycle is later and he freaks. Saiki knows he can't get pregnant if he is still a virgin but, with his powers anything is a possibility. And with his body wishing it didn't happen, maybe it found a way for it to stop happening. Yet, he knows he couldn't live with the dysphoria if that happened.
-he's to scared to tell his mom so he just freaks out to himself for a bit until he finally breaks down after school one day.
-like he's in the mall with his guys friends and Teruhashi (who randomly showed up). They're looking at some stuff around, he chat remembers what but, he suddenly sees a young women being overwhelmed watching her son. Saiki can't help but start to freak out wondeirng if that is his future when Aren asks what's he's looking at and jokes aboyt him having kids.
-yeah Saiki burst out crying at a food court freaking out to his friends aboyt his issue. (Aren feels guilty for weeks by the way.)
-no one knows what to do until Teruhashi reaches over and holds his hand. She rubs circles on it telling him to breath before slowly asking him to explain everything to her. He eventually calms down and tells her everything including how his period is late.
-she slowly explains to him many things can cause that since he's a virgin the likelihood of this is very rare. Like one in a million and it's more likely he might be sinking with her since they hang out so much. In fact her's is due to start in tow days and if he wants he can stay with her until it happens just to make sure that's what's happening.
-Saiki gets her number, and a week Lated he is relieved to call her and tell her that she was right.
-from then on the two become monthly buddies and eat chocolate and watch films together.
Mera is subtle-
-she finds out when a sanitary product falls out of Saiki's school bag. She doesn't say anything at all until after class. And when she does, she offers that Saiki and her can go buy more after school if he wants or she can get them for him.
-she just acts like a big sister to him when he gets his monthly and honestly is the sweetest thing ever.
-So it's no wonder why she joins the monthly buds group so well.
Chiyo hears a slip up-
-she, Saiki, and Teruhashi are talking one day about issues of their lives. That is when Teruhashi slips up being up Saiki’s periods being the worst she has ever heard of or seen in her life.
-Saiki freezes up but, Chiyo just groans hearing how painful they are. She explains she doesn’t care much if he’s trans he’s still her friend but, god those cramps sound worse then hers.
-so her and Saiki become cramp buddies while the other two girls mentioned here are lucky enough to not get cramps that bad.
(Another thing I would like to imagine happened at one point was Nendo became convinced Saiki was knocked up. No one knows why but, he got all excited and planned a whole baby shower and everything. Of course it wasn’t true, but Saiki promised him that no matter how he had kids in the future Nendo would be the good father which always makes Nendo smile when he thinks about it, no matter where he is, evacuee one day he’s gonna have god son to spoil from his best buddy).

So I Just Watched "Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day"
Tumblr media
I hit the halfway point of Stardust Crusaders and decided I wanted a quick change of pace before I got around to Battle for Egypt. I was just scrolling around on Netflix for another series when I stumbled upon this one, and decided the premise was interesting so I gave it a shot.
All I can say is holy fucking shit, thank you Netflix.
I've been watching anime consistently for about half a year now, and while I've found a lot of series that I've enjoyed, I've been wondering if I would find a show that I could consider life-changing. Anohana is absolutely a life-changing show. The way it examines the ways that grief and guilt can manifest in a person, be it emotionally, physically or mentally, is unflinchingly painful. For a show that starts out with a ghost suddenly reappearing before the protagonist and playing a Pokemon bootleg with them, it's definitively the realest anime I've had the pleasure of viewing so far.
Jintan's development is interesting enough as-is, but there's so many diverse characters that go through heart-wrenching transformations in the span of just 11 episodes. This series knows how to get a reaction out of you because no matter where you come from and what you've experienced, there's going to be at least one aspect that you can relate to. It's almost too human, and I mean that as a compliment.
SPOILERS BELOW
My eyes were already watering by the end of the seventh episode but Anohana continues to go one step further until you hit one of the most soul-crushing climaxes I've seen since Assassination Classroom. The scene where the Super Peace Busters are describing how selfish they've been and the regret that's been instilled in them because of it is just so goddamn powerful, especially when Poppo admits he was a witness to Menma's death despite giving no indication that he's feeling anything similar to the others throughout the series. In fact, I think that was the point where the tears didn't stop flowing for a while.
What's really interesting about Poppo is that he's a comedic relief who's actually essential to the plot of the show. Novel concept, I know. But he's technically the driving force behind the Super Peace Busters coming back together. There's such a long period of distrust between the group, and it's Poppo's belief and exuberance that brings them together for the first time in years.
So finding out why he wanted to believe that Jintan could see Menma, and having those emotions manifest within him so suddenly, it's that diversity in perspective that really makes this moment hit close to home. Poppo is the only optimist in the entire show, and his breakdown is exactly what this show needed to be perfect.
Everything from this scene onward turned me into an ugly-crying mess, ESPECIALLY the ending. The moment that everyone in the group was able to see Menma again, I just lost it. I've never felt this kind of power and raw emotion from any form of media before. I've become far more emotional towards movies and anime recently, but not even Assassination Classroom or A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood made me tear up as much as Anohana did.
While I'm talking about characters, I gotta mention Yukiatsu. I stopped watching yesterday after the cross-dressing scene, and I had no idea what to make of it at first. But again, this show pulls no punches in showing just how heavily grief can manifest within someone, making them do things that are highly questionable to say the least. This is a show that feels like it should be tackled in one sitting, because every episode ends in a way that leaves you judging at least one of the main cast and it isn't until the next episode that you find out why they're acting the way they are.
SPOILERS END HERE
I'm gonna touch on some of the other characters without diving into spoiler territory. I think the big one I want to draw my attention towards is Menma, obviously. I hate to admit it, but when I first started watching the show I saw her as the Sagiri type. Hell, they even look similar. But Menma's bratty tendencies are a lot more justified, given that she died at a childhood age and she hadn't seen anyone in years up to that point.
Finally, Naruko is just... where do I even begin? Her development is an unmatched work of genius. She starts out like a pure tsundere but her actions go far, FAR beyond "It's not like I like you or anything." Her confession (you'll know what I mean when you get to this scene, it's one of the best in the show) is almost painful to sit through, it's the epitome of selfishness and yet as Menma has become the central focus for the Super Peace Busters, you know deep down that she's somewhat justified in her thinking.
I could continue rambling on about this series for hours, it's just so emotional and real that I couldn't help but get choked up. Hell, I'm still choked up while writing this, just thinking about that ending is going to get me for months to come. This is a show that has the power to change your life. It makes you think just how much grief can change someone, and it shows just how important it is to hang on to the things you love and leave nothing unsaid. Hands down, a 10/10.

Lapis Re:LiGHTS - Anime Review
Tumblr media
I started watching this since the art style is so beautiful and cute. I have always had a weakness for Magical Girls anime, but this one has the Idol aspect mixed with it.
Contains Spoilers
The main character of this show is Tiara Victoria Lex Waleland (voiced by Yukari Anzai who also worked on Happy Sugar Life and Release the Spyce), an extremely long name that, as everyone can guess, means that this girl is actually royalty. She’s one of the princesses of the Waleland kingdom, along with her sister, Eliza (voiced by Kana Anazawa who also worked on Angel Beats! and Deadman Wonderland). Against her older sister wishes, Tiara runs away from her home and joins the Flora Girls' High School, a magical school where students work in groups. It has some similarities to, for example, Hogwarts when it comes the evaluation system. You earn points if you do well in classes and lose them when you do poorly - and of course, after you lose too many, you are expelled. It’s mandatory in this high school that the students work in groups and earn the points together, going up (or down) in the ranking system.
This show has, like all idol anime, several girl groups that the viewer can adore (seven groups to be precise). So, of course, Tiara joins a group where her childhood friend, Rosetta (voiced by Risa Kubota who has also worked on Konohana Kitan and Ongeki), an extremely clumsy and fiery tiny girl called Lavie (voiced by Live Mukai who has also worked on Hitoribocchi no Marumaru Seikatsu), a more stern girl called Ashley (voiced by Iori Saeki who has also worked on Nekopara and Uma Musume: Pretty Derby) and the bookworm Lynette (voiced by Mizuki Yamamoto).
All these girls have pretty standart and stereotypical personalities, but they are all extremely loveable, I absolutely enjoyed seeing Lavie and Ashley argue with each other, while Tiara and Rosetta bonded over their family backgrouds and memories, plus Lynette (even though she didn’t have a counterpart, per say) had enough interactions with everyone, while being important to the plot at the same time. I was afraid her character would be forgotten, but she was extremely charming since the beginning. Moreover, it was super refreshing to see the girls interact with the other groups and forming friendships with each other; it was genuinely refreshing to see, for example, Lynette become close to Ratura (voiced by Yukimi Hayase) and bond over their love for the group Ray.
Each group eventually becomes an Orchestra, a group that sings for the town’s people so a big quantity of mana can be stored in one of the biggest buildings of the school. It doesn’t hurt the people who are listening, despite my concerns in the first episodes, it is just a way to enjoy music.
Moving on to the groups then:
There are 7 in total:
LiGHTS - Tiara, Rosetta, Lavie, Ashley and Lynette. They become an Orchestra since they were in risk of being expelled due to having very little points among them. Their songs in the show have been 私たちのSTARTRAIL (in this particular song, all of the groups are present, but it’s mostly sung by LiGHTS) and Planetarium. It’s the pop style kind of group, their songs tend to appeal to everyone. These songs are, respectively, the Opening song for the anime and the Ending.
IV KLORE (and my favourite group so far) - Emilia, the daughter of a succubus, having the ability to drain the people who touch her of their energy (voiced by Hazuki Hoshino), Alpha, a magic doll that serves Emilia (voiced by Tomomi Mineuchi who has also worked on Slow Start and The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. 2), Salsa, a werewolf (voiced by Yuu Sasahara who has also worked on Ochikobore Fruit Tart and Tonari no Kyuuketsuki-san) and Garnet, a ghost (voiced by Youko Nakayama). This group shows up quite early in the show, having an episode dedicated to Garnet as she joins IV KLORE later on. This group has no human members, all of them either being half-human or fully mystical creatures. They’re music is really enjoyable, having a bit of a darker tone when compared to everyone else. In the show, they sing two songs - Midnight Sapphire and Forbidden Fairytale.
KonoHana wa Otome - Kaede, the younger sister (voiced by Yuuko Oono who has also worked on Konohana Kitan and Ongaku Shoujo), Nadeshiko, the middle sister (voiced by Rina Honizumi who has also worked on Hug tto! Precure and Plunderer) and Tsubaki, the oldest (voiced by Arisa Suzuki who has also worked on New Game!! and Butlers: Chitose Momotose Monogatari). In the anime, they sing two songs -  Karakure*Night Fever and Inochi Mijikashi, Ryouran Otome. This group mixes traditional japanese music with the rock concept, making this group my second favourite. Their songs are absolutely delicious. In the episode that is dedicated to this group, we see Kaede and Nadeshiko fighting over their musical concept, the middle sister wanting to mix rock music with the traditional. The viewer can see Nadeshiko struggling to keep the relationship with Kaede, while the youngest struggles with the fear of failure of not being able to perform both concepts well enough. It was a really cute episode and it was really fun to see the three of them, even though Tsubaki doesn’t seem to interact much with the other Orchestras, with the other girls and seeing them establish friendships with them.
Sugar Pockets - Ratura (voiced by Yukimi Hayase), Champe (voiced by Seika Hirose) and Maryberry (voiced by Hikaru Akao who has also worked on Assault Lily: Bouquet and Runway de Waratte). This is, in my opinion, the weakes group in terms of their songs. They do this cutesy, soft performances and when compared to the other groups, they lack individuality. Other than that, the characters are pretty loveable as well. Ratura is seen quite often as she and Lynette become close friends as the show goes on and Maryberry becomes less and less shy and more eager to perform with her friends. Champe is probably the most forgetful of them all, but still a very cute character. They perform two songs in the show - Wagama Caramelize and Chat Noir.
Sadistic★Candy - Angelica (voiced by Yuuka Amemiya) and Lucifer (voiced by Risae Matsuda who has also worked on Keijo!!!!!!!! and Love Live! Sunshine!! ).This group is the one that makes Sugar Pockets look boring, in my opinion. This Orchestra also has a happy, sweet kind of concept, but their chaotic personality and energy makes them stand out quite a lot. They performed two songs as well - Positive★Paradise and Are Many Chance!!! . Not only that, but when it comes to the plot, Angelica was also part of the popular group Ray, however her personality at that time now embarasses her and she is a more serious person, despite her childish self still coming out when arguing with Lucifer.
supernova - Yue (voiced by Yuu Sakuragi who has also worked on), Millefeuille (voiced by Saeko Oku) and Fiona (voiced by Haruka Itou who has also worked on Omoi no Kakera).This is one of the most popular groups when Tiara joins the school. The members are all students in high ranks and they are used in several episodes to show how the hierarchy in this high school works. Their personalities and friendships aren’t shown as much as everyone else, what the viewer will learn the most about them is Yue’s hatred for Tiara and that Millefeuille works a bit like an older sister for both of them, often keeping Fiona in place. Their songs, despite being good, aren’t my favourites from all of them. They go for a more mature concept with their outfits and sounds, but it feels a bit “noisy” in the chorus. They perform two songs -  Ao no Shoudou and RISE.
Ray - Eliza, Chloe (voiced by Yoshino Nanjou who has also worked on Akuma no Riddle and Love Live! School Idol Project), Angers (voiced by Yuuka Amemiya) , Camilla (voiced by Sumire Uesaka who has also worked on Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! and Musaigen no Phantom World) and Yuzuriha (voiced by Ayane Sakura who has also worked on BanG Dream! and My Hero Academia). I really don’t have much of an opinion about this group as they aren’t really active anymore. I do enjoy their backstories quite a lot and I honestly hope that, if there is a second season, that these girls can get a little bit more screen time. Eliza, Tiara’s older sister, is now uncapable of singing, if she does, she might lose her voice. She was the one who asked Chloe, the now chair of the board at school despite her yound age, to put Tiara in a group that would be easily expelled. Angers became Angelica and changed her personality completely, going from a cute, soft and a bit ridiculous girl to a more serious one. Camilla was known as the Ray’s Immaculate Prince, but barely anything is shown about her besides the fact that she was a vampire that was extremely popular amongst her classmates. And then there is my favourite, Yuzuriha, a lesbian who loves to flirt with girls and spends her time in the school’s cabaret - which, by the way, the viewer can see that Champe works there as well (maybe Champe is a wlw as well?). Yuzuriha is the funniest of the group and I definitely enjoyed some representation even if a bit weird. The only issue I see with her in the anime is that her sexuality is used as a personality trait, but even so, so little is shown from the group itself that I didn’t really mind it. She was called the Graceful Dancing Princess as she was a great dancer.
The plot starts with LiGHTs struggling with the little points they have and trying to find ways to not be expelled, the viewer can see them in class and joining a group with all the other Orchestras (except Sadistic★Candy) to fight some supernatural monster that was lurking around in a forest close to the high school (it was actually Garnet, completely unaware that she was dead and didn’t know others saw her as a ghost). While they try their best to not have to leave the school, eventually they just aren’t able to have enough points and are forced to leave. From this moment forward, it’s revealed that several monsters are coming towards the high school and that all the Orchestras need to work together, so they can gather mana enough fromt he audience and protect the town. As this is going on, Ray’s backstory is revealed and LiGHTs still managed to save the day in the end.
I really enjoyed the show and the episode where Garnet joins IV KLORE was my favourite by far. The writers did a good job when it comes to allow the viewer to know the characters well, without feeling overwhelmed with so many of them. Truth be told, Champe, Camilla and even Lucifer don’t really have much screen time, but the writers still managed to make them interesting enough to not be completely forgotten. Other than that, I liked most of the songs and even those that weren’t my type were still fun to watch the Orchestras perform.
Rating: 7/10

Shows Included: 3-gatsu no Lion, All Out!!, Bernard-jou Iwaku, Bishoujo Yuugi Unit Crane Game Girls Galaxy, Cheating Craft, DAYS, Drifters, Fune wo Amu, Getsuyoubi no Tawawa, Kaijuu Girls: Ultra Kaijuu Gijinka Keikaku, Keijo!!!!!!!!, Kiitarou Shounen no Youkai Enikki, Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku, Nanbaka, Nazotokine, Nobunaga no Shinobi, Occultic;Nine, Okusama ga Seitokaichou!+!, Saiki Kusuo no Ψ-nan, Shakunetsu no Takkyuu Musume, Sousei no Onmyouji, Soushin Shoujo Matoi, Stella no Mahou, Teekyuu 8, Tiger Mask W, To Be Hero, Udon no Kuni no Kiniro Kemari, Watashi ga Motete Dousunda, WWW. Working!!
A really mixed bag this season, though a much better season than the summer!
3-gatsu no Lion As expected of SHAFT, a great character driven coming-of-age story that is practically flawless. I really enjoy any time the three sisters are on screen, but I also appreciate the appearances that his step-sister has made. She’s just sympathetic enough that you feel bad for feeling bad for her, but she’s also cruel enough to make you tense up the moment she comes on screen. The one thing I don’t like about this show is the thing it seems to get the most hype for, which is it’s intro song. I just don’t feel like it fits the attitude of the show. Otherwise though, yet another home run from SHAFT. Series continues! Highest recommendation
All Out!! This isn’t the best show, I wouldn’t even say it’s better than DAYS, but it was enjoyable enough. If the retired pro player turned coach hadn’t of shown up, I might have dropped it, truth be told. Once he shows up the, the season really picked up. The show is continuing, so hopefully that upward trend is here to stay. Series continues!
Bernard-jou Iwaku I’m not much of a book nerd, so a lot of this was lost on me, but there were still some great laughs to be had. If you’re into science fiction and novels in general they have a lot of interesting factoids about books and you could probably pick up some good recommendations from it. 7/10
Bishoujo Yuugi Unit Crane Game Girls Galaxy The series got a budget this time around, so it was actually pretty well animated (for flash), and they were able to have a lot more detail as well. I loved the inclusion of Dark Cherry, they were great foils to CRANE GAMU. It was more of a nonsense comedy this season, as opposed to “crane game tips as brought to you by an idol anime” that the first season had. Ended on a pretty wild note with Kyouko and Rei seemingly becoming a couple out of nowhere, though in hindsight they make a great pair. 8/10
Cheating Craft A really weird show, like, it would be hard to even explain what it is without being incredibly vague. The characters were great, especially the home room teacher. One of several shows this season that had some surprise GL in it. 6/10
DAYS I still think that the coach from this team would have been fired already, for letting someone that inexperienced play in such important matches. I also feel like the show contradicted itself quite a bit; they said that all the starters are starters because they are out for themselves, but they were willing to play with a no-experience player AS A STARTER. Maybe it’s just a sports thing I don’t understand, but every time someone said “it’s not your fault” I was audibly saying “no, it really was!” Ubukata was great, but I feel bad for Tsukushi’s childhood friend basically getting zero screen time after the first episode. I would have liked for Tsukushi’s mom to have been more of a factor in the show as well. For a sports anime, it was good, but there were a lot of things I had problems with. 7/10
Drifters It’s a cool concept, of course, but I worry about the execution of it all. This great nation of Orte that some of the characters wish to protect was founded by Adolf Hitler, who is supposedly a Drifter, which makes him a good guy by default, since that’s what the protagonists are. If I need to spell out why that’s fishy at best, then you need to go back to school or at least watch the History channel once in a while. I also would have liked to have seen at some point in this season some kind of selection process for why someone ends up a Drifter and why someone ends up as an End. If the Black King isn’t Merlin, I will be incredibly shocked, because he’s the only historical figure I can think of that would also be excusable as such an all powerful deity type figure that can give other people powers, as well as using alchemy. I love the harsh art style, it fits the attitude of the show quite well. As a history nerd, I think it would be really funny if Teddy Roosevelt showed up with the Rough RIders to go ham on the Ends, but will just have to see what the next season holds. 8/10
Fune wo Amu I had originally thought this would be a much different series. After the first episode I actually looked it up to see if it was going to be something I’d actually be able to watch three episodes of without falling asleep. The synopsis I read was pretty misleading, though it may have been for the live action adaptation that came out before; it basically said that the protagonist would be tasked with defining “love”, and through that he would complete this dictionary and learn to live life to the fullest and so on. Unfortunately, for the animated adaptation at least, that’s pretty much a lie. He realizes he has feelings for his landlord’s grand-daughter, and then four episodes later they’ve been married for over a decade, her as a successful chef, and he on the cusp of completing the dictionary. It felt like they cut out an entire third (or even half) of the story just to fit it into 12 episodes, which was really disappointing to me. It wasn’t bad, but I felt like it could have made it’s point about seeing things through and the importance of words a lot clearer with just a few more episodes. 7/10
Getsuyoubi no Tawawa I’m kind of surprised that this show didn’t get a lot of shit, to be frank. It’s everything people love to guffaw about when it comes to anime; a large-chested girl who is too young for the guy she is talking to in most cases and is doing everything but dragging him to a love hotel. I’m not even sure what this would be categorized as; I wouldn’t call it a romcom, because there weren’t really any gags or jokes to it, and if you just call it a romance then people expect drama when there wasn’t any of that either. So... if you want to see a well-endowed girl flirt with nameless, faceless men for 12 episodes, this is the one for you. 6/10
Kaijuu Girls: Ultra Kaijuu Gijinka Keikaku There isn’t really much to say about this show other than if you like kaijuu and chibi/SD characters, you’ll probably like this show. If it had been more than a five minute show, I think it would have become boring, because they don’t really end up doing that much over the course of the season. Just a short, silly comedy about girls learning to use powers, basically. 7/10
Keijo!!!!!!!! I really want to compare this to Valkyrie Drive, because it was good, but... it was just a little too much. If they had dialed back the ecchi during the times they weren’t in a match, I think it would have had a greater comedic impact when it came to the action. Instead towards the end it was like “wow they are laying it on thick this episode.” Still, I salute them for just going all out with it. I usually complain about “boring sports” anime needing to rely on silly gimmicks for their characters to make the show more interesting, but Keijo already had it’s silly gimmick in place, so the super moves/abilities weren’t far as far fetched as say, a mahjong player that does better because there is a full moon out that night. The foley artists should be commended specifically for this show, they did an incredible job. 8/10
Kiitarou Shounen no Youkai Enikki This show came and went by in a flash. I didn’t even realize it had ended until I started writing this; it didn’t have a very definitive finale I guess. if you’re into Japanese folklore/yokai/bakemono/etc, but also are okay with those characters used in a comedic setting, you should give this show a shot. 7/10
Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku I don’t really know how to feel about this at this point. The character design bothered me a lot in the beginning, and by the time I got used to it, other problems sprang forth. It was another one of those “subversion of the genre” mahou shoujo series, which has become a genre on it’s own at this point because so many people are doing it. Out of all the girls, Swim Swim’s arc was the best, though I wish they had explained why she had her super OP power (since most of the others depended on what they wanted to do or their personality, seemingly.) It was also interesting that in the end they kept their powers, even though they broke their communicators from Fav, which was a nice change of pace. 7/10
Nanbaka This was a very strange show. At first I thought it was going to be like JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure because of the aesthetic, but instead it was just a fun gag show about a larger than life prison. Of course the highlight of the show for me was once again, Yuu Kobayashi as the warden, stealing the spotlight in a fairly minor role. I think I enjoyed it more as a comedy, because towards the end it gets pretty serious with some action mixed in too, and it just felt kind of like “Okay let’s get back to the gags now.” Overall though a pretty entertaining show. 8/10
Nazotokine An OL who works as secretary to the CEO of a major company finds excitement in her every day life, but suddenly gets sucked into a weird dimension where she is tasked with solving puzzles in order to go back to her normal life. Unfortunately, many of the puzzles involved Japanese words I didn’t know, so I was basically just watching for the performances (thought the two or three that didn’t I was able to solve.) A good premise, I think it could have been fleshed out a lot more. It seems like the kind of thing that was based off of a mobile game or even just a series of puzzle books. I just thought it was funny that this and Tiger Mask W aired in the same season because in TMW they show New Japan Pro Wrestling all the time, and in Nazotokine during one episode they go to an All Japan Pro Wrestling show. Would like to see more but I doubt it will happen. 8/10
Nobunaga no Shinobi A nice, short gag comedy about a little ninja girl who is super effective with her work but kind of a ditz otherwise. A cute show that can be surprisingly bloody, but most of the time it’s just goofball type humor. Series continues!
Occultic;Nine The first third and last third of this season were okay, but the middle part was really boring and a lot of the side stuff going on felt unnecessary. Spending so much time on the little girl practicing black magic and the guy using astral projection just to have a way to explain how time passes for you as a scandium ghost was a little much. The cast wasn’t particularly relatable either. I did like the reveal of the person who was going around “deleting” the ghosts, though, and the FBI with psychometry was really great (would have preferred to see the story from her perspective honestly.) It felt like someone who wrote a Persona teamed up with a studio that wants to be SHAFT. 5/10
Okusama ga Seitokaichou!+! Wasn’t a fan of this season as much as the last one. It felt like they had a meeting and said “Okay, the framing is established with season one, so now we can just go all out with erotica!” The problem was is that, they can only go so far, so showing what is basically the same thing over and over with just different characters makes it lose any ecchi power it may have had originally. 6/10
Saiki Kusuo no Ψ-nan An absolute joy of a show. I would not mind if I was still writing about this show in these season wrap-up reviews this time next year, it’s that good. Nendou-kun has grown on me a lot as the show has gone on, and Teruhashi has become my favorite character I think. 10/10
Shakunetsu no Takkyuu Musume I started to have the same problem with this show that I did with Saki (the mahjong anime), wherein they feel like the characters or action aren’t strong enough, so they have to give the players these goofy gimmicks that are beyond ridiculous. I really could not stand the green-haired yandere chick in this show, and was incredibly happened when that mini-arc ended. The beginning third of the show, I can understand people being perturbed at the lack of sport in this sport anime in favor of so much ~moe, but I think the episodes after the practice match arc are a great example of the show at it’s best, with a great balance of moe and sport. It’s not for everyone, but it has a fun, memorable cast. Reminded me quite a lot of KanaMemo, actually. 8/10
Sousei no Onmyouji Well, I would say the ride was fun, but it really wasn’t for the most part. The first arc of the show was pretty good, then they had a lovebirds arc which was horrendously stupid, and then it got into more action again and it was fine for a while but then you could tell the original writer started stalling at a certain point and it was really obnoxious how so little of what was going on week to week felt like it mattered in the grand scheme of things. It was like the series couldn’t decided to be a supernatural action show or a romcom, and you can’t really half-ass doing both when you have a masterpiece like Katanagatari out there. It had promise, but just took way too long to deliver, if it ever will. Dropped
Soushin Shoujo Matoi I don’t know if I’ve just watched too much anime by now or what, but I felt like I had seen this show a hundred times already. Nothing felt new or refreshing. It’s a very pretty show, at least, so I watched it all the way through, but I don’t think I’ll remember the name of this show next week, let alone next year. 7/10
Stella no Mahou I was a little worried about this show at the beginning because of how babyish the protagonist was, but she matures pretty quickly, and the remnants of her babyness become part of her charm. This felt like if you mixed Yuru Yuri and Wakaba Girl together, which is a pretty good combo. It also reminded me a bit of Saekano, even down to the girl in charge of music getting the least screen time. I would like to see another season of this but I think it would need to move about more into a more serious mood, like maybe they decide to debut at Comiket for real this time and put everything they have into a new game. 9/10
Teekyuu 8 I always love Teekyuu content, if you’ve followed me for a while then you know that quite well. 10/10
Tiger Mask W What knowledge I DON’T have from never having seen the previous Tiger Mask anime, the knowledge I have of him as an IRL pro wrestler and the current Japanese wrestling scene and attitude has made up for anything I would have otherwise missed. If nobody noticed, Monopoly is meant to be the WWE, and New Japan’s partnership with this series is a pretty clear showing on how they feel about WWE’s current move to basically create pro-wrestling colonies on other continents. There’s a lot of other BTS politics involved, but it’s interesting to see it as fodder for what amounts to a kids’ show. The main problem I have with the series so far is the inconsistency in violence and how much is tolerated. One of Tiger’s early foes causes him to bleed profusely and beats the piss out of him, but he says his match with Tiger the Dark was his hardest yet and he was barely even scratched. Also, a guy with a sword shows up in one episode, which is just bad, since he can never realistically use it (even in a cartoon setting.) Series continues!
To Be Hero I haven’t read anything about the behind-the-scenes of this series, but it would not surprise me in the least if it was a jab at One Punch Man. The dialogue is the star of the show here, with every character getting at least one really great monologue. The ending was actually pretty touching for a show about a guy that got superpowers from taking a dump. 8/10
Udon no Kuni no Kiniro Kemari This show was great, but towards the end, it felt kind of forced. It had a great thing going, and then it was like they thought, “Wait, Poco is still a tanuki?! Crap, what are we going to do?” I think this would have been better served about a guy reconciling with his decision to go to Tokyo, and having a son he didn’t know about to deal with in the process. Maybe Souta left for Tokyo for the same reason, but while he was there, he dated a foreigner, and they broke up, which lead to him getting into a rut at his job, and then finally moving back home to take care of his father’s effects post-mortem, where he finds his dad had taken in the child his girlfriend never told him about. SOMETHING like that. There was also a great missed opportunity I think with Nakaji and Rinko. One of Nakaji’s problems in the season is that his parents are hounding him about getting married, so what if he hadn’t been even looking because he was having an affair with Rinko? It honestly felt like that’s where they were going with it to me. She tells him he should stop smoking, and he eats her cooking despite knowing it’s bad, and then when she tells him she’s pregnant, it just honestly felt like that scene was written out as her telling him it’s his, and he’s the first to know she’s pregnant. It was also kind of disappointing that Udon didn’t really have all that much to do with the show, despite being in the title. Kana Hanazawa’s character is about as big of a red herring as you can get in this kind of show, as well. It’s cute and genuinely funny, but could have been much better and poignant in another world. 8/10
Watashi ga Motete Dousunda I imagine the manga won’t end the same way the show did (assuming the manga continues from there), but I think the writers of the show ended it the best way they could. Say what you will about the comedy based around liking gay fiction (admittedly exploitative fiction) making you a weirdo, but I feel like when it came to Nishina, they treated her respectfully, even showing her as a true rival, an equal, amongst the other suitors that Kae genuinely considered. That in itself should be celebrated. Yuu Kobayashi is easily top 3 seiyuu for me, so any show that she is the focal point is always one that I will enjoy all the way through. 9/10
WWW. Working!! I had a pretty big falling out with the main Working!! series, but there were several things that I did enjoy about it. I’m happy to say that those things are present in this spinoff as well, not only that, but I feel like WWW does it even better. In the main series, several of the characters were a pain in the ass with no payoff, but in WWW, they wrap up everything nicely in one season, without any characters feeling annoying or worthless. My favorite, as per usual, was one of the characters with the least amount of screen time, Kisaki. Of course, the manager was my fav character from the main series, and since they share many traits, it shouldn’t be that much of a surprise. It almost felt like this was a reboot in retrospect, considering how similar some of the characters are to the main series cast; they were just written better this time around. 9/10

Phantom in the Twilight 4 - 5 | Starlight Promises | Muhyo and Roji’s BSI 1 | Cells at Work! 5 | BnHA 55 - 56 | Angolmois 5 | Planet With 5
Tags should be rolled out soon.
Phantom 4
The Chris x Shinyao ship is setting sail…figuratively and literally.
Affogato al caffe. I’m not a coffee person but it sounds tasty!
I wonder what “shut up, peanut gallery” sounds like in Japanese or Chinese? (volume off right now)
I like how they decided to randomly stick a drone into this.
Oh, I didn’t really believe Ton when she said Toryu had a talisman over his eyes, but now I can see it too. This crow scene reminds me of Juuni Taisen though…by the way.
The fact Haysin (half-shaven man is Haysin, now that I’ve gotten the villains’ names straight) is plotting above London reminds me of the 90s, where villains would do that a lot for no other reason but to look cool.
I love how Vlad’s cape appears last, so that it can drift behind him dramatically like that.
This show’s a bit monologue-driven, but nothing that isn’t highly entertaining.
Ohmigosh, was that Vlad? As a singer??? What??? That’s fantastic! Amazing! And also surprisingly sexy…not that I needed to divulge that last bit since he’s a bishie vampire as it stands, but…y’know.
Starlight Promises
I normally don’t do commentaries for movies, but I need the notes for the WordPress post…so let’s go.
I wonder why this was delayed…
Was it just me, or was Shouma’s bike/body CGI when he was riding up the hill? I like how they chose to put the bike scene over the phone call though, it would’ve been too boring otherwise.
I always like noticing when someone says “Sankyuu” rather than “Arigatou” because it’s always funny to laugh at…well, that’s a bit of an injoke between me and some classmates from Japanese class, but…yeah.
Yakusoku no Nanayamatsuri = The Promised 7th Night Festival, or something along those lines.
The hologram speaks very formally…but that’s because she’s an admin person. She’s dealing with people she’s not familiar with and might keep at arms’ length.
They’re so going to fall in love aren’t they? That’s the tale of Tanabata for ya.
Oh, Shiori lost her hat! Also, was Shouma always calling her (Shiori) –chan?
Have you noticed the women all dress in pink/red and the boys all dress in blue? Eesh, gender segregation, much?
This water is so obviously CGI…it’s not the most terrible-looking stuff I’ve seen in CGI, but it’s still obviously CGI.
He’s dead! Just as I was thinking all along! As soon as they started dropping hints about Shiori’s sister, I knew Atsushi was gonna be dead!
You can quite clearly see the fabric has been animated by CGI in this dance sequence. That’s probably why the movie was delayed…
There weren’t that many friend-friend pairs…only lovers and familial ones…hmm…
Muhyo and Roji’s BSI 1
Finally! Time for the start of the season to be watched!...At least, I hope so. Between the shows I’ve got, the lineup’s pretty much set.
If Kenji and Nana appear next week, they’re probably just trying to take their time with this show. Then again, they could still rush the ending…or cut out some of the middle stuff…
I find it interesting that they showed Yoichi chasing after Enchu first. By doing that, it’s almost as if Muhyo and Roji don’t matter in this show.
This adaption’s actually pretty by the book, to use a very bad pun. I think the glasses cost Roji about 300 (or was that 390?) yen, but that’s the only missing detail I’ve found so far.
What does “nice course” mean anyway? In volleyball, that is…
Welp, as much as I want to support this show, this first problem could clearly just be solved by having more communication between Rie and Taeko…
…I kind of knew this would happen, but…the lineup I have is so solid and yet I don’t think this show could compete with any of them. So, as much as I want to follow the show weekly, it’s going on hold.
BnHA 55
This “Miss Sai” lady is most definitely going to go “Ohohoho!”, y’know? Just from that hand gesture, I can tell that’s going to happen…*sigh* Anime…
Phreatic explosion. Sounds cool, but it’s pretty simple at the heart of the matter.
Interi Saiko…ohmigosh! It’s just as bad as puns from Saiki Kusuo’s show! Saikou means “best” and interi is short for “intelligence”.
Interesting that Yaomomo thinks of Todoroki first…then Iida…
This high-pitched noise is basically the beginning of Dude of Red, y’know? (LOL!)
Lemme guess, Aizawa thinks Midoriya and Bakugo are the two with the biggest influence.
Cells at Work! 5
Phagocytosis. Haven’t seen that word in years, y’know…
Diastroph-wuh?...Diastrophism, apparently.
“With its antibodies!”
…wasn’t there an explanation of mast cells in one of the previous episodes, though?
I think Mast Cell was using “baka” (volume off) but the subbers went with “bonehead”, which works just as well while including an extra body pun in there! Fabulous, huh?
Steroids can be human-made, right? So that’s why this is a robot! A-ha!
Planet With 5
The giant explosion? Didn’t think they were going to talk about that, LOL. Nobody talks about things like those in ordinary shows…but then again, this isn’t an ordinary show, is it?
I feel like the girls are talking about the case in Eva, where the children constantly had to get evacuated.
Can someone be weird by not being weird? I guess that’s the chuuni life for ya.
Why is there an abandoned ball in the play equipment, though…?
Hey! It’s a world turtle! The Nebula people(?) really do believe in human mythology, don’t they?
Oh. The “ni” in “Universe” is upside-down…
Maybe the snake is Ouroboros? Or the Midgard serpent, which is said to encircle the Earth in Norse mythology?
The hologram machine looks like a macaron…*drools*
There appears to be the kanji for “love” on one side of the bowl.
Ah! Shiraishi is giving them instructions! Just like I said in ep 2’s commentary!
I mentioned in a WordPress post Planet With can be interpreted as a coming-of-age and I think that’s best encapsulated in Nezuya’s change. However, Takezo (old man) is proving that even the young at heart can “have the fire in their hearts put out”, meaning even he need to grow up…metaphorically speaking.
The dog’s Japanese name is Kakka = “His Excellency”. So why “Generalissimo”????
Whoa! Normally it’s a small TBC on the corner (bottom-right quarter of the screen), but this time it fills the entire screen…! The show’s just getting better and better!
Phantom in the Twilight 5
The body text of the newspaper appears to be in Latin, LOL.
Hey, a leannan sidhe! Havn’t seen one since Ancient Magus’ Bride and that’s where I learnt about ‘em anyway.
Is it just me, or does the animation look noticeably wonkier than usual in this episode…?
George Gregory *scoffs*. What a name, it’s almost redundant…
Poor boy Roland seems sleep-deprived…hopefully it’s just the artstyle…or his stage makeup.
“Armlet”? (sic)
I wonder why there are all these blurry shots? They seem somewhat intentional…
I thought Roland was Vlad in the next-ep preview of ep 4! Dangit, show, why do Vlad and Roland look so similar???
This song sequence is pretty much as bad as Dynamic Chord, so thank goodness the entire premise isn’t about the singer…*wipes invisible sweat off brow* Phew.
Oh dear. Why is Van Helsing always the man you want when it comes to vampire hunting? Couldn’t you call for Buffy or something? Not that I know anything about Buffy…
I thought I saw Toryu for a second back there…in the PhaTowa Plus segment…
Angolmois 5
I never realised how good the sound design was in this show. Now that I’m listening to it properly, it’s pretty amazing.
Why was the scout so small in that shot? If they wanted Hitari to show off, they should’ve gone for something more visible, y’know?
Amushi looks like Keith from Voltron…! Why do I even know what Keith looks like? Because you Netflix watchers make such a fuss over him and his sexuality!
Interestingly, the Mongols have spears but the Japanese only just got them…huh. In the birthplace of the naginata, to boot.
Why are there so many stills in this show’s action scenes, though?
“Don’t fight a war unless you know why you’re fighting it.” – Sage advice, Kuchii Jinzaburo.
9th year of the Bun’ei era = 1272. The more you know.
Kuchii still had his scar back then, huh? I wonder when he got it then.
I really liked seeing Yajrou’s character development throughout this episode.
BnHA 56
“It seems pretty handy!” seems like a really bad pun, considering what happened just earlier with Shishikura’s fingers…
I still don’t get why Denki’s glasses are meant to be upside-down, though…
For some reason, I’m laughing *gasp* really *gasp* hard at *gasp* the insult “Dunce Face”! (LOL) (gasping from too much laughter)
Midoriya does the Naruto run. It really shows how much Horikoshi looks up to Kishimoto.
