Oh my god, I love talking about Skam so it's your fault I got carried away and this got long.

YES, Nell Cattrysse (Bobbie) is insanely beautiful, both girls are in fact but that's no surprise because Skam has a talent for finding these supermodels for their roles, I remember seeing the Norwegian version as a teenager and being speechless at how beautiful Noora was. But anyway, I'm glad you liked the seasons!! I love knowing that someone else liked it, because it's my favorite series ever and I don't have any friends who watch it to talk about it. I can't judge you for going for the gays seasons, I think you're absolutely right actually. Time is precious and we must always prioritize queers' narratives. In the Spanish version, I think it was the intention that the couple (Nora and the toxic guy whose I don't remember name) gave us the ick, she would only be with Alejandro (the William of this version) at the end, and I heard something about the directors having decided on the narrative of an abusive relationship for Nora precisely because Norway William was toxic and the relationship was not well worked on. It was a dig at the original, I would say. In the end, none of the straight couples really interest me in almost any version. For me, the best Vilde to date is from NL Skam, she was very sweet and I feel so bad that she never got her own season. Druck's Vilde (Kiki) has the most striking personality and was very shippable with Mia (Noora in this version). MY BABY JOANA I HAVE NOTHING BUT PRAISES ABOUT HER - I can hardly believe she had a happy ending that didn't ignore the difficulties of her illness. And she was so beautiful in the extra scenes, it was so special. And I think we all have problems with Skam France, right? I still can't believe that of all the couples, the sapphics were the ones they separated. It was really frustrating. Good thing fanfics exist.

NOW SPEAKING OF WANDA -

I didn't think of an exact plot for these rewritten scenes; they are just one-shots really. Reader replaces Vision in the story and that's it - In one of them I mention that Reader is on the other side of the world being stitched back together giving the idea that the original was really dead but I didn't really think about any plot. We can pretend that Y/N is a representation of Wanda's love and grief created by the stone as Vision was, it is really the choice of whoever is reading. If I'm ever going to do a series about Wandavison, I'll definitely start from scratch and ignore these ones haha

Dude I started watching Skam in April 2017. Then I watched Skam Italia, Skam France, Skam Austin, Skam Espana, Druck, Skam NL, wtFOCK. I’m still watching the new episodes of Skam France and Druck. I’m waiting for Skam Italia season 5. Three months ago I watched Skam season 3 for like the 10th time. Literally today I heard a Robyn’s song and I was like : « WAIT THAT’S THE VOICE THAT SINGS ‘CALL YOUR GIRLFRIEND’ !! ». I felt so happy to see that Kennedy (🇺🇸) and Nicole (🇪🇸) became very good friends (both of them played « Noora »). I still listen to my Skam playlist. And I’m planning on watching agaiiiiin Druck season 3, Skam season 2, Skam Italia season 4, or any other season that I loved 😍

I’m almost 23 now, and Skam is not just a phase to me. Skam really did change my life and had an impact on my vision of the world ❤️ It still does.

so i have some silly questions. ive seen you and a lot of other kp accounts talk about skam. where do i start? which is the og skam? do i start with that? are all the skams the same but in different languages? should i watch all of them or some or only one? is it ongoing or done or unfinished? where do i watch it? also what is the show about and what are its major tws?

Definitely not silly questions, but holy shit they're big ones 😂 I'll try to be as succinct as I can, with the caveat that I haven't watched all of them in their entirety and the remakes are very much NOT interchangeable despite being adaptations of the same show.

So to break it down—

What is SKAM about?: SKAM was a Norwegian show that aired from 2015-17 for four seasons. The show was set in a high school and centered primarily around two friend groups (fans usually call them the girl squad and boy squad). Each season focuses on a new main character from these friend groups and is told from their point of view, with plot arcs that range from SA to mental illness to coming-of-age struggles, but they're all very grounded and relatable teen issues told with (for the most part) a lot of empathy and hope. The seasons are pretty narratively distinct rather than having major plots stretching across multiple seasons, so while you might miss some context, you don't necessarily have to watch all the seasons or watch them in order.

Now what's really cool about SKAM, and what you unfortunately miss out on somewhat by not watching it live, is the multimedia component. The show's format is something that was never really seen before and hasn't really been seen since, at least not to the same extent. While it was airing, each scene in that week's episode went live in real time throughout the week. So for example, if a scene is meant to take place on Monday at 3:20pm in the story, that scene would be posted online on Monday at 3:20pm. Scenes could drop at literally any time, day or night, and on top of that the characters had real Instagrams that they'd post on and text conversations that would be posted too, again all in real time, so not only was there something new pretty much every day for the fandom to talk about, but all those media components (clips, Instagram posts/stories, texts, etc.) were interconnected so they all fed into the plot in important ways. At the end of the week, all the scenes would be compiled into the full episode, but you wouldn't see the other media components which really add a lot to the story even if they're not 100% essential. I think a lot of the remakes have a fan-made Tumblr where all the different types of content have been collected and put in order so you can get the full experience, so I'd definitely check them out first.

As for the remakes, all of the above applies to them too. There are a total of seven remakes, each from a different country: SKAM France (France), Druck (Germany), SKAM Italia (Italy), SKAM Austin (U.S.), SKAM España (Spain), SKAM NL (Netherlands), and wtFOCK (Belgium).

Where to start: I recommend the original Norwegian SKAM. Some seasons are better than others, and if you're just in it for the gays (I pretty much was lol) then season three is what you're looking for. It's been a while since I watched the og or any of the remakes so I'm not sure where they're available now, but that info should hopefully be pretty easy to find.

Are all the SKAMs the same but in different languages?: Sort of, but also not. Most of them follow the main plots of the og seasons but they vary widely in terms of how closely they adhere to the characters, tone, themes, etc. SKAM España, for example, is SUPER different to the point that it barely resembles the original most of the time (and it's GREAT). Also some of the remakes didn't get to cover all four seasons (SKAM Austin and SKAM NL only got two seasons and I'm still in mourning), while some remakes covered all four AND seasons beyond that (SKAM France just finished its tenth season).

Should I watch all of them or some or only one?: Everyone has remakes they like more or less than others, it's just individual preference, but they're all worth checking out imo. After watching the original, I'd probably recommend SKAM France, Druck, or wtFOCK first as a taste-tester, but genuinely all of them have their strengths and their flaws. My personal favorites are SKAM France (for the cinema and acting), wtFOCK (for the music and general vibes), and SKAM NL (for the cinematography, acting, directing, basically everything).

Ongoing or finished?: Most of the remakes are finished, with the exception of SKAM Italia (which just started season 5 like two days ago actually) and mayyyybe SKAM France and Druck, which both had seasons finish airing recently.

Major TWs: This is hard because the remakes are, like I said, distinct from each other, so some TWs won't apply to all of them, and especially with the remakes that have gotten additional seasons, they have more than the original. I also haven't watched all of them from start to finish so I don't know all the things to look out for.

For the original, you'll definitely encounter drug/alcohol use and abuse, SA and SH, Islamophobia, homophobia, bullying, as well as depictions of mental illness that could be triggering. The show has its heavy moments, but it's not gratuitous about it imo and at the end of the day still manages to be uplifting despite talking about some really serious topics, which is a feat tbh. If you have questions about TWs for specific seasons or remakes I can try to go in a bit more depth. Each remake (and the original) also has a fandom wiki with episode/season summaries that give you a good idea of what to expect, so that could be useful as well if you want to watch out for anything in particular.

Thoughts on Skam (OG)

After more than a year I finally finished watching the original Skam. Maybe it’s because I watched 5 remakes in a row from prior to it, but I fully admit I checked out of Noora’s season early on. I know the OG is widely considered the best version of Skam, but honestly, I disagree. I wouldn’t even put it in my Top 3.

Season one was okay. It was the basic first season. Those of ya’ll who remember my posts from 2020-2021 know I don’t really care much for the first two seasons of a given Skam (Execept for Austin and NL since those only did the frist two seasons.). This was no different. It is the baseline. I’d need to reatch to get my exact feelings down (I’m not doing that.), but I liked it as much as I can like any version of season one nowadays.

Seasons two through four were done better in the remakes. No version of season two will ever top Skam España‘s season three and no version of Noorhelm will ever surpass  or be as good as Norandro. I just don’t see it happening for me. I spent most of Noora’s season snarking to myself and waiting for it to end. Season three? I enjoyed it more than season two, but Druck did it better. Best I can say it that I like the main couple more than France’s, but that’s a low bar to clear.

Which brings me to season four. Outside of France Skam just can’t seem to do a good Sana season. Season four is honestly France’s best season and if not the best it’s the second best (Though I haven’t seen their 9 and 10 yet.). I remember liking that Druck allowed their Sana to call out the bullshit happening to her, but not much else. OG’s was honestly kind of boring. Sana and Yousef were kind of cute together, but that didn’t amount to much. I’ll give it points for actually focusing on Sana but that’s something to be expected.

Overall though? I’m not sure if it’s because of burnout (Again, I watched NL, España, France, Italia, and Druck over the course of more than a year with little breaks between them.), if I’m just that biased in other version’s favors, or if the OG is overhyped but the OG was a letdown for me. Looking over my previous post this is honestly the most negative I’ve been about Skam. It might honestly be my least favorite version of the 7 I’ve seen.

Next up is WTFOCK. I still have seasons 9-10 of France, 7-8 of Druck, and season 5 of Italia to watch but I’m not really feeling the mood to return to any of them right now. I dunno. I’m kind of exited to get to know a new cast. I’ll start it on Monday and I think I’ll go back to seasonal thoughts for it. See ya’ll next week!

The Belgian remakes third season became the years most searched for thing in Belgium showing the shows potential.

The Skam NL’s cancellation was due to budget cuts not poor performance (plus the show can be made at a relatively small cost due to it not using special effects or specially built sets).

The Italian version of Skam was picked up for a fourth season by Netflix Italia after fan campaigning.

The French version was picked up for seasons 5 & 6 which is more than the original due to the popularity with its fans

Despite not releasing new content for months Skam NL has had 1.1 Million views in the last 30 days showing the fans support and love for it

I can't speak about the entire Wtfock. The 3th is really good, but I haven't watched the other two. Also, a lot of people hate the 4th and I never watched. The new season is nice, I've been busy to follow them, but the couple has a lot of chemistry and it's WLW so I'm down for it. All episodes are available on Youtube, which is a super bonus.

But yes, I have seen Eskam. I love Crisana (and cris season is so fun) and I was never able to get over my crush on Joana and that's okay. I don't like the first season much, but love the girl's squad dynamic. Also, their Noora/Vilde Season is something else, right? I feel like the put on a lot of things the fandom wanted to see in the original.

I think I have seen at least one season (or a few episodes) of each remake. I didn't follow them all, since the first four seasons are the same plot, but I have seen them all. My favorite was Skam NL, and to this day the fact that they got canceled haunts me. Skam Italia is amazing, all seasons! The characters have incredible chemistry and they changed a lot of the dynamics, it makes it feel like a new show. AND I LOVE DRUCK, are you kidding me? Third-best after NL version, they have the best chances into the storylines and the new generation is just superior to anything the others tried to do it (I'M TALKING TO YOU SKAM FRANCE). And we have Transgenders Characters falling in love, talking about the subject and it's so so beautiful. BTW, I like Skam France too, but they broke my heart with Maya and Lola breaking up so I'm not on good terms with them.

I hate Skam Austin and can't believe they approved that.

I don't wanna share the story because I'm always changing it! And I have dozens of drafts, and none is usable haha But I can say that the main inspiration will be the healthy versions of Noora/William. Sorry, but the original one is just not it for me. I loved Nooreva too much and hated William. Plus, Noora literally gets sick from anxiety while dating him, so nope. Not gonna work. Lucky for us, Skam Italia and Druck gave us healthy versions of this couple. I think Edoardo and Eleonora are the main inspirations, but Mia and Alexander are incredible as well. I could put some references to Skam NL as well, since Liv and Noah are very sweet and I feel like the closest I could be to a William is the Noah Sad artist version.

I can't give any spoilers for the druck fic because I want it to be the best one, Kieutou is my favorite skam couple. I'm gonna invest some extra time into this one.

here's why dutch even should be a trans man:

• because trans representation is important

• i honestly can't think of any trans man in a dutch series

• we'll get another positive portrayal of a trans man in a loving relationship with a gay man

• even though the netherlands are seen as a very accepting and openminded country we still have a long way to go

• there are still so many transphobes in this fandom and we need to banish them by putting more trans characters in the remakes

• the MI plotline is amazing and we definitely need more representation on it but we already have 5 remakes adressing those themes, and it would be so groundbreaking to have more trans rep in the skam universe

• he could still have the MI plotline because they can exist at the same time, or they could give it to lucas (and do it properly this time)

• skam nl has this very realistic tone to it so i'm sure they would do a good job at portraying trans struggles without overdramatizing it
