24. if we were together on a rooftop, what would we be doing?

depends where. a “rooftop”* like the willis tower in chicago? i’d be maniacally giggling about how high it is to combat my own nervousness. if it’s a plain old building i would still be nervous as hell and try to stay away from any ledges. so nothing too drastic!

*willis tower’s uppermost floor with the sky deck isn’t technically a rooftop per se but i’ve been on it and it was super cool. wasn’t even scared. if you’re curious here’s a picture.

26. a scenario you’ve replayed many times?

this can go one of two ways: a scenario with characters or in real life

in real life i often think about going to poland for a vacation for the summer,, just staying at my great-grandma’s and having a blast with her farm <- chickens and ducks and the neighbors literally right next to her and then more family across the street

characters? whatever piece of lore i think of. usually i set it to music in my head

Windy City “Chicago” experience of Deep-Dish, Dizzying Heights, and Unexpected Delights

Chicago. The "City of Big Shoulders" wasn't just a nickname; it felt like a fact I could hold in my hand, especially after lugging my suitcase through O'Hare. But fatigue melted away the moment I stepped out into the crisp autumn air, the city skyline a breathtaking welcome. This wasn't just a tourist trip; it was a chance to experience Chicago, warts and all.

A View (Almost) Worth the Sweaty Palms

Okay, maybe "sweaty palms" is an overstatement, but standing on the Skydeck at Willis Tower definitely tested my fear of heights. Gazing down at the miniature cars inching along the streets, I couldn't help but let out a nervous giggle. But the view? Absolutely breathtaking. Lake Michigan stretched out like a shimmering blue ribbon, and the city sprawled before me, a concrete and glass jungle reaching for the sky. I spent a good hour snapping photos, feeling a mix of awe and exhilaration.

From Skyscrapers to Strolling: Millennium Park's Magic

Stepping back onto solid ground, I needed a reality check. Millennium Park offered the perfect antidote. Cloud Gate, the bean-shaped sculpture, mirrored the vibrant scene around it, capturing playful tourists and the golden afternoon sunlight. Kids chased pigeons, couples strolled hand-in-hand, and laughter filled the air. It was a slice of everyday life that was somehow calming after the dizzying heights of the morning.

Later, I found myself mesmerized by the Crown Fountain. Those digital faces on the LCD screens! One minute they were smiling serenely, the next they were transforming into hilarious water-spewing gargoyles, soaking unsuspecting passersby. The surprised shrieks and bursts of laughter were contagious, and I couldn't help but join in the fun.

Day 2: Deep-Dish Dreams and Fountain Fairytales

Let's be honest, a Chicago trip isn't complete without deep-dish pizza. Giordano's, a local legend, didn't disappoint. The first bite was pure heaven – that buttery, flaky crust overflowing with soft and sticky cheese and thick tomato sauce.

With a full belly and a happy heart, I wandered towards Buckingham Fountain. Towering majestically in Grant Park, it felt like something out of a fairytale. As the water danced in the afternoon sun, synchronized to classical music, I couldn't help but be swept away by the spectacle. Closing my eyes, I could almost imagine myself in a grand ball, dancing under the shimmering spray.

Beyond the Tourist Trail: Unexpected Gems

Of course, I couldn't resist exploring beyond the well-trodden tourist path. A short walk from Millennium Park, Daley Plaza offered a quirky surprise – the "Man with the Fish" sculpture. It's a playful bronze statue depicting a young boy wrestling with a giant catfish, a symbol of Chicago's light-hearted spirit. I must admit, I spent a good five minutes trying to get the perfect photo, dodging tourists and laughing at the absurdity of it all.

Wicker Park was next on my list. This vibrant neighborhood oozed bohemian charm with its independent boutiques, vintage clothing stores, and trendy cafes. Browsing through curated record stores and treasure hunting in used bookstores felt like stepping into another world, a world of artistic expression and hidden gems.

Leaving a Piece of My Heart in the Windy City

As I boarded my flight home, I couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness. Chicago had woven a spell on me, its soaring skyscrapers and hidden corners etching themselves onto my memory. It wasn't just the tourist attractions, though; it was the friendly faces, the unexpected laughs, and the feeling of being a part of something bigger than myself. Chicago, you stole a piece of my heart, and I know I'll be back one day to discover more of your magic.

Underwater Adventures Await: Exploring Shedd Aquarium

But the day wasn't over yet! The afternoon called for an aquatic adventure at Shedd Aquarium. Stepping inside felt like entering another world, a world of breathtaking colors and mesmerizing creatures. Whales glided effortlessly through the water, their playful antics drawing squeals of delight from children (and maybe a giggle or two from me too). Sea otters, with their impossibly fluffy fur, danced and played, stealing everyone's hearts.

The highlight, though, was the mesmerizing tunnel. As I walked through it, surrounded by schools of colorful fish and graceful sharks gliding overhead, I felt a sense of wonder wash over me. It was a humbling reminder of the vastness and beauty of the ocean's depths, a world teeming with life hidden beneath the surface.

Hi one of my favorite episodes is #75 A long way down. Because the day that I listened to that episode I was on a trip with my brother in chicago, and he decided it would be fun to take us to the highest building in the city there to an attraction where you can get inside a glass box off the side of the building and take pictures/have a good view of the whole city etc. (knowing damn well I've been terrified of heights my whole life 😭😭) without actually telling me where we were going until we were actually there. I just got in some random elevator in some random office building with him and I was like ? What even is this attraction we're doing.....and then I saw the elevator had a tiny TV in the corner of it showing our elevation as we went up all the floors of the building 🙃. I did NOT get on the skydeck attraction thing to take pictures and spent the whole time there in the gift shop area staring down at the floor (only area without any glass windows) ..So when I listened to that episode later that day I was like ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!.....????!?!??...WHAT...??? WHAT. At the similarities. and it just sticks out in my mind because of that hehehhe.... LIKE WHAT IF THAT HAPPENED TO ME? Also I really love vast episodes.
