Lindon has severe claustrophobia, brought on by trauma, and I don't think that is talked about enough

Skysworn (Cradle #4) [Book Review]
Tumblr media
➺ 3.5/5 🌟
Not as good as the last book, to be honest. The middle part of this book is a bit dry for my liking, and a bit slow. And this is just a short book, less than 300 pages, and saying that it's slow is not a good thing. Not that this book is bad, the middle part is just stale that it was a bit boring.
It would be a 3-star if not for that whole Lindon-Jai Long duel under the three Underlords' presence, that last fight with the bloodspawns and the introduction to Akura Mercy, which by the way, I think I liked her. Though, unfortunately, I couldn't give this 4 stars either because I couldn't say that this is on par with book 3. But this is still a solid book for me.
What I like about this overall, aside from the enjoyable battle scenes which tends to be my favorite scenes in this series so far, is how the world keep on expanding. Each book, you thought that you've been introduced to the most powerful individual, but then the next book you'll realize that there are more dominant people out there and they are just waiting to be introduced. It goes to show how massive the world building could get, and that's exciting to look forward to.

In Skysworn when Lindon uses a sticky-hand construct to pull himself toward Jai Long in the duel. Funniest thing I’ve ever seen.
(Also, before the fight, just picturing him in 80’s gym gear with the headband and colorful trinkets strapped to every inch of his body)

Cradle books described by yours truly
All books: store brand cultivation story, but the ones that are better than some of their triple a competitors 1, Unsouled: lvl 0 adventure dies, comes back, and leaves Beginner village 2, Soulsmith: back water hillbillies found gods back shed and are looking for the chainsaw, and the introduction of the best character in the entire series 3, Blackflame: main character is stuck in a duel with someone twice his level and goes through a training montage, only to be stopped 2/3 in the training 4, Skysworn: boring, best part is the duel at the beginning 5, Ghostwater: main character goes through second training montage, but this one is more dangerous and far more rewarding, introduces the second best character of the series 6, Underlord: one last training montage (until book 11, but that’s not for the main character) but the love interest and second protag needs to advance or they will die, so they are on a timer 7, Uncrowned: Tournament arc part 1 8, Wintersteel: tournament arc part 2, they become Demi Demi gods 9, Bloodline: lvl100 adventurer goes back to beginner village and tries to get them to leave, they are too stubborn until a literal mountain walks into the valley and eats another mountain 10, reaper: dungeon crawl and the biggest power up yet, reaching official Demi god status 11, Dreadgod: don’t know, not out yet. ask me on July 6th. Only know that it has training montage for secondary protag and secondary characters 12, (untitled): don’t know, not out yet. Ask me next year. Only know people advance to the godhood level officially and the series ends (until the authors sister convinces him to write a continuation of their story at the ascended stage)

Books #3, 25, and 44 please?
3. A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik
One of the most books of all time. I love El and I love all the horrible monsters Novik comes up with and I love the series. In fact A Deadly Education appears on this list twice because I read it again in September.
25. Tongues of Serpents by Naomi Novik
oh dear this is the third book from this series I've been asked about so far. They're fun, but there's too little plot per book. In fact I'm pretty sure this is where I stopped. It gets bogged down into endless journeys across Australia. Interesting POV, but dragon travelogue is not, alas, as interesting as it sounds.
44. Skysworn by Will Wight
a dangerously addictive series. There's martial arts and implausibly competent people and a level-up system. I don't think it's possible to stop at just one or two of these.
send me a number from 1 to 187 and I'll tell you about a book I read in 2022!

Just rereading the series and I’m 35% through Skysworn and what does the Cloud Hammer Path actually entail? What does it do? What are it’s benefits, it’s drawbacks, it’s Path-related kinks? I need to know Will! (It’s probably on his website but I haven’t looked there yet so…)

Do you ever think about how Eithan called Lindon a weapon? To his face?

""Don't think," she warned him. "After an injury like this, it is your thoughts that are most deadly. Your fears, your pain, your despair, they are deadly poison. Do not let them rule you."

I wonder if part of why Malice uses the bloodline armor is because it looks awesome. Like, there’s quite a bit of collateral damage for every step on the ground. But! It looks very very cool. (And also is very durable and hence a useful technique to use in battle)
Shoutout to Skysworn for introducing the madra/essence mecha and letting it punch a bird kaiju.

March Book Reviews: Skysworn by Will Wight
Tumblr media
Book 4 of lots. Book 1 review and series overview is here. I’ll have to admit, I read these in a dizzying book consumption orgy, and this one doesn’t stand out as clearly in my mind as some of the others. This one opens with Lindon in prison for [redacted] crimes-- somehow the guy still manages to annoy incredibly powerful people even when he’s still at the respective power level of a gnat. Lindon still has a duel for the death scheduled, he and his mentor Eithan are becoming increasingly entangled in court politics, and on top of all that one of the unstoppable, all-powerful Dreadgods is rising in the south. Stakes rise, but not much gets resolved here.
