Audio
Years ago, I was almost hit by a truck while listening to this song, and sometimes I still think about how it could well have been the last thing my mortal ears ever heard.

I don’t know what kind of man he was, but Slim Whitman always looks like either he doesn’t know what’s going on, or someone off camera is screaming “Fuckin smile slim!”.

It was 76 years ago today, that “The Louisiana Hayride” had to first broadcast.
Live from the Municipal Auditorium in downtown Shreveport on April 3, 1948, Horace Logan, the original producer, emceed it inaugural show on KWKH radio station, which station manager Henry Clay created.
The guest on night included the “Bailey Brothers, Johnnie and Jack, The Tennessee Mountain Boys (with Kitty Wells), the Four deacons, Curley Kinsey & The Rebbessee Ridge Runners, Hamie Smith, the Ozark Mountaineers, the Mercy Brothers and Tex Grimsley & The Texas Showboys.
The name “Louisiana Hayride” was taken from the 1941 book by Garnett Thomas Kane, titled with the same name.
With a year, The Hayride grew to a 25-station network, which also included broadcast overpass on Armed Forces Radio.
While the flagship station continued to be KWKH 1130 AM, it not only could be heard on much bigger stations like WLW in Cincinnati, it soon made it way onto the growing new technology called ‘television.’
Of course it spawned the floodgates of hundreds of country music and rockabilly greats to perform there, such as Hank Williams, Webb Pierce, Hank Snow, Faron Young, Slim Whitman, Jimmie Davis, George Jones, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Lefty Frizzell…..and of course…..Elvis Presley!
The Louisiana Hayride’s run continued until August 27, 1960, but KWKH continued to use the name to package musical tours throughout the 1960’s.

every song contains multitudes
one of my special interests is associative listening. the fluid "yes and"-state of letting go and becoming one with the music. it's very much like cloud watching, a mindful practice that is hard to describe to someone for whom it doesn't come naturally. (it isn't the activity per se that is mindful, it's the meaning and experience of mindful flow.) i love revisiting a familiar piece of music, don't knowing where it will take me.
one aspect of this actitivity is all the intriguing and phenomenal rabbit holes of other people's creativity and associative minds. the samples, covers, remixes, mashups, re-using of sounds and the nods to those that came before. there is something incredibly human about the connectivity in creative work, the insert of oneself in a timeline with references.
references. foot notes. every song contains multitudes.
attached example: ashes the rain and i by james gang. it wasn't until i heard the 2015 bbc ibiza proms version of fatboy slim's right here right now that I realised I had to go look for the sample. the find was gratifying on many levels. not only the arrangement but the lyrics as well. i'll expand on that another day.

STARMAN - A. STEENBECK
Tumblr media
Auggie Steenbeck x reader
Part one of ????
Part two https://www.tumblr.com/coolgal5/738210108662775808/starman-a-steenbeck
(GN reader, we need more auggie on this app)
You had wanted to be an astronomer since you were younger. You had always had an affinity for outer space and even more so you loved the unknown. Something about trying to find the answers to things nobody had ever known had always been the best to you. So when one of your closer colleagues, Dr. Hickenlooper, invited you to travel with her to a Jr. Stargazers convention you knew you had to go.
Asteroid city was familiar to you, you had grown up in a nearby town. You however had never seen it this packed before. School children, parents, cowboys, military men, you even noticed a movie star. You were staying with Dr. Hickenlooper for the most part of the trip but after you guys had unpacked at the motel she was pulled away by someone to work on preparing stuff for later in the day. This left you on your own for about half an hour. You recalled seeing a small diner on your way into town and you figured you should probably eat something.
You waltzed into the diner and glanced around. There was a few tables spread around and a bar. You thought about where you should sit when you noticed someone familiar. Midge Campbell, the film actress sitting at the end of the bar. You walked over, pulling out the seat beside her and sat down.
“Pardon me, Midge Campbell?” You spoke softly as to not startle her
“oh yes hello?” She quickly replied, glaring at you through the thin frames of her glasses.
You offer out your hand for her to shake.
“Hello! I’m familiar with some of your work and it’s very good, you’re very talented.”
She smiled lightly, seeming to ease up.
“Oh yes thank you. I’m glad you think s-“
She was cut off by a snapping sound from the other end of the bar causing the three of you to snap your heads around to the cause of the sound.
A man sat there, around his early forties with who you assumed was his son.
“You took a picture of us” Midge spoke, glaring at him as if he was something she had found on the bottom of her shoes.
“Mhm” He nodded.
As you looked at him you began to think to yourself. You noticed he was REALLY attractive. He had messy hair and a scruffy beard that was patchier than a pair of old jeans but he seemed to pull it off WAY too well.
“Why?” Midge continued to interrogate the man.
“I’m a photographer” Even the way he spoke was attractive, the way he seemed so sure of himself and you found your cheeks heating up at the thought.
“You didn’t ask permission”
“I never ask permission”
“Why not?”
“Because I work in trenches, battle fields and combat zones.”
“Really?” “Mhm”
“You mean you’re a war photographer?” You chimed in.
“I sometimes cover sporting events, my name is Auggie Steenbeck.”
“What will you do with it?”
“I’ll probably try and sell it to a magazine now that you mention it, Midge Campbell and her friend, eating waffles.”
“Make us a print first, to approve”
You listened to the way midge spoke, she had a REALLY pretty voice. It felt really strange to see someone who you had only seen on the screen in real life.
Just then, the younger girl beside midge raised her hand.
“This is Dinah”
“This is Woodrow” Auggie stated, motioning towards the boy beside him.
“I have a question” Dinah finally spoke as Auggie nodded.
“Have you ever been shot? With bullets?”
“Have I ever-“ he chuckled lightly “Once or twice, just grazed”
“He got shrapnelled in the back of the head once, show her” Woodrow tipped in before Auggie turned around, revealing the mark on the back of his head.
Midge took a sip of her coffee before speaking again.
“I don’t say I forgive you yet by the way”
You all turned back to your food, but you continue glancing off to the side at Auggie
This was going to be a long two days.

I'll start out with this; locked doors keep out the honest people. If a thief wanted to get in, they would either pick the lock or break the door down. Now as to a wall; anyone who wants to get in bad enough would use a ladder or dig a tunnel to get to where they wanted to. A one thousand-foot-long string of razor wire will only stop or injure people for a short length. That buoy system is there for political purposes only. I talked to another person the other day who has your beliefs on the border and they said we should plant mines all along the border! I've never experienced such hate and cruelty in my long life as now.
I'll grant you Slim Whitman is annoying, but hate? Come on, lay off the hyperbole.
Because someone can circumvent security measures means we shouldn't try? We should maybe just wag our fingers at the illegals pouring across the border and sternly say, "Please stop." If it doesn't work we can say, "Oh well, we tried." and go watch reruns of 'The Golden Girls.'
I know you wouldn't let any random schmuck walk through your front door and steal your collection of Hummel figurines, access your bank accounts, and molest your cat without putting up a defense. Unless you're a man-bun wearing, milquetoast leftist, that is.
Whatever. I don't hate anyone - except maybe Oscar Peters from my 3rd grade English class. He wouldn't stop kicking the back of my chair. Oooohhh, how I hated him. (I've forgiven him since.)
I just would like to see a sane yet vigorous border policy to keep the illegals out, no welfare if they make it here, and immediate deportation if they are caught.
You may not have noticed, but my security measures in the previous post regarding border security were facetious. Piranhas can't survive in the Rio Grande, and dogs and bees don't work well together.
The bottom line is, I believe the current dumpster fire in the oval office is allowing this intentionally. The 'why' is beyond me (I have suspicions), but there is a reason President Addle-minded isn't clamping down on the border. I'm fairly certain whomever is pulling his strings (Soros, Obama, Xi?) is ordering the policy. JB is too far gone to even know what is happening.
If you have a problem with that i don't know what to tell you.
