#sorrel weed house ep
Text
Hello sbg nation, I've read the latest ep and am full of thoughts. I'm going to vomit them all down here.
So obviously with that burst of violence from the gang, the phantom world is changing them in some fashion, right? A lot of the comments I saw on webtoons are calling that they're all turning into phantoms.
I 100% agree. In fact, going off the discussion the Origami Crane Group (OCG) were having, they should have turned into phantoms the minute they entered the shadow world at the start of the school year.
As the OCG member following the group said in ep 38, "All of those kids should be at least comatose, especially the girl!"
With the fact that the gang started sounding like phantoms to Ashlyn during the fight and that both Ashlyn and Logan have "spoken" the phantom's language-- Ashlyn naturally, and Logan when enraged with Barron-- I'm assuming that the process of turning into phantoms is finally taking hold of the gang.
The timeline of how long they've been in the phantom world is slightly vague, but the Savannah trip happened early in the school year and by the newest episode they've just finished midterm exams, meaning that it's been about 4ish months since then. Which is a pretty long period to avoid becoming a phantom when the change is usually instantaneous!
My main thoughts on what's going on are this:
The OCG are studying/messing with the phantom world for currently unknown reasons. Because of this, the Sorrel-Weed House "guide" picked the group after somehow identifying that Ashlyn has a connection to the phantom world.
The expected result would be for everyone in the group to end up comatose as their souls/shadows/whatever turn into phantoms. For some reason, perhaps the fact that Ashlyn's connection to the phantom world is somehow different from other people's (borne from the fact that her parents brushed with phantoms during her birth?), she prevents the phantom-ification and everyone retains their minds in the phantom world.
Except whatever Ashlyn is doing can't keep the others safe from the effects of the world forever, as seen in how violent and "mindless" they became in the fight before Ashlyn ordered them to calm down. The property of the phantom world that changes them is still trying to do it, and the passive use of her power isn't as effective anymore, now Ashlyn has to purposefully tap into the phantom language to stop them and let them regain their senses.
Another thing of note from the dialogue in ep 38 comes from Jasmine (tattoo lady) going over her interaction with the gang again. At the end, she mentions that after the gang left, the "rift" was permanently closed. If this isn't just what happens when anyone enters the rift, then that means Ashlyn and the gang entering the rift somehow ended up closing it when they shouldn't be able to.
I think this could link to Ashlyn's powers in two ways:
She has a natural ability to close rifts between the worlds, but because she didn't know about it, she couldn't do it properly, leaving her and the gang stuck in the phantom world at night anyway. Still better than being comatose, though!
Instead of actually closing the rift, Ashlyn instead sort of "became" the rift, triggering her and everyone to keep getting stuck in the phantom world even without being near a rift. This could also explain why her parents are seeing phantoms again and the phantoms' are able to semi-interact with the real world at times.
Why are the OCG chucking phantom-sensitive (and non-sensitive) people into the phantom world? Unclear. Since the "Boss" of the OCG has ordered them to keep an eye on the gang to figure out why they aren't reacting instead of, idk, killing them, I'm assuming there's a research segment to the OCG. I do wonder if they're using the power to assassinate people? Or planning to do that, with the random groups at the Sorrel-Weed House being tests.
If nothing else, we do know at least two more groups know about the phantom world; an OCG member mentions them. "Both sides are still trying to track us down."
Who are these two sides? There's not enough info to know much, but I'm leaning towards one group doing similar things to the OCG, while another opposes them. This is because the OCG member specifically refers to them as "sides" rather than just other groups.
So one group is doing the same stuff as OCG, and would want to strike them down to create a monopoly on the phantom world, and the other group wants to stop them altogether and use the phantom world some other way. Both are trouble for the OCG, so they have to stay low after the Sorrel-Weed House incident, as it was somehow noticeable to the other two groups and could be tied to the OCG, placing them in Savannah.
With the knowledge that there are other groups, it makes me wonder where Mr. Thomas (the teacher) fits into all this. The fact that he could see the difference in Ashlyn's shadow has lead to the assumption that he's part of the OCG, but I'm not sure that I buy it.
For one thing, you'd think that if he was part of the OCG, he'd already know that Ashlyn and the gang have ties to the phantom world and that strange things are happening to them, but he seemed genuinely thrown by the sight. For another, it's been shown with Ashlyn's parents that one can see and experience things like/related to phantoms without being a part of the OCG. (To different degrees, though-- the parents can see the phantoms but not Ashlyn's shadow, while the teacher can see the shadow.)
I think there are two possibilities with Mr. Thomas. Either he's someone who is slightly sensitive to the phantom world but is unaware of the OCG or other groups, and was startled by Ashlyn's shadow because he had no idea it could happen, or he's a part of one of the other sides and was startled by Ashlyn's shadow because he didn't realize she was tied to the event in the Sorrel-Weed House.
Anyway. There's some thoughts.

So let's talk about how gentle and careful Shane was around Ryan after he saw whatever he saw down there.
He didn't even question him (I'm sure he did, but not right away), nor answered when Ryan got a little aggressive at the possibility of him not believing what he saw.
And even when he let him more time alone, he was still very gentle, and I can't stress enough how fucking careful, when he went to pick Ryan up. Like-- dudes. Love me a good friendship. I love them.
I don't want to see anyone ever again questioning if they are good friends outside the show ever again. Especially saying shit about Shane. I cut the next bitch saying that.

LATE AS FUCK, but I’ve been waiting for this episode ever since that spoiler with the poll... Was it worth it? Fuck fucking yeah it was.
THEY LOOK SO FUCKING GOOD, I’M CRYING. The mustache is gone and I couldn’t be happier. WOW. I loove Ryan’s clean face and his flannel is fucking KILLING ME. And... Fuck, fuck, fuck-- Shane’s beard. YES. Just with that, this is one of my favorite episodes.
Shane never getting the vibes is such a mood, I love him for being this honest. And for looking that hot and loving history the way he does.
What is wrong with Shane’s hand, Ryan? I mean, I get it, his hands are Something, but control yourself, man.
I love Shane’s serious face, even if he’s being an ass, it’s just jfndsmnjdd. What a handsome man, this is a treat after that ugly ass mustache. I NEVER GONNA SHUT UP ABOUT IT, OKAY.
Anyway, look at them sitting on the table all fancy.
CHRISTIAN BALE, FNDSDMDNJSDKMNDKDMSNJKMF.
And there it is, today’s selfie! [post]
Oh, hello. Steps, steps, steps. I’m loving this, it’s being worth the wait. Oh God, Ryan... Ryan is scared. And Shane is loving it big time, he’s such an ass. I LOVE THEM.
“Did you hear that?”, the way Ryan said that, wow. This is like-- all the not-scared Ryan has been all season just prepared him from this episode. And Shane is loving it.
IS THAT A DOG? What the fuuuck. “I’M SHOOK”. Me, too. Holy shit. THIS IS SOME GOOD, GOOD SHIT. I’m loving it. I can’t wait to read all the damn fanfics based on this.
Look at them playing with the ghost girl! This is fucking adorable, okay. All the parents AU are coming in here. Also, also-- let’s talk seer Ryan playing with the ghosts of little kids who don’t know they are dead.
“As long as I have to”, why does that sound hot? I have a problem.
Here it comes... “Sandwich?” So are we gonna talk about how Shane is obviously trying to make Ryan laugh and how good it works, because damn-- let’s talk good pals here.
This house is very responsive, I’m lovig this episode. Believer or not, this is a fun episode somehow. “Oh, spooky”, Shane-- shut up.
“I’m Ryan” “That’s true... Oh, I’m Shane” lmao, idiot.
... WHERE? I DON’T SEE SHIT. I hate that they don’t have it on record. And listen... I want to believe Ryan. I believe in ghosts, I believe in the Supernatural. But it can be anything. Without proof, without an actual video I don’t know what to think. Ryan is scared, even when he’s saying he’s trying to not freak out, we can see it and mmm... I don’t know.
Shane is so tired. His voice is all so... soft, but not like in a cute way, it’s weird. He sounds sick, I don’t know.
“Grab my nipples”, SHANE FUCKING MADEJ WHAT ARE YOU DOING, WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS.
Ryan is so scared, holy shit...
“I really hope to hear him scream” Shane, darling... what the fuck... What the fuuuck... Yeah. Guys. Ask me about it :) You know what I’m thinking :) YOU KNOW IT :)
“I don’t really want him to have a full mental break, but close... Close would be good...” oh. OH WHAT IS GOING ON. OH MY GOD? “Ryan has been there for five minutes, I’m gonna give him a bit longer” WHAT ARE YOU DOING. WHAT THE HELL. GUYS, GUYS I’M HAVING A BREAK DOWN HERE.
I think... this is the first time after the Sallie House when Ryan has been for real scared. And Shane is not making fun of him. He’s pushing him a little, but the moment Ryan says “let’s get out of here” he says yes. I just-- really like this. They are seriously good friends, and Shane knows him well. It’s really nice to see.
I loved this episode. I’m a little disappointned on the apparition thing, but-- this is a good one. I’m sure the Post Mortem will be interesting to watch (and p funny, I don’t know why I feel it in my soul it will be lol).

Dont Read Till You Watch: I’m gonna come out and say I’m a believer and I’m very easily scared lol So this episode had me as shook as Ryan. God when Ryan freaked out about the figure it made my heart drop lmao I feel so bad for Ryan that he witnessed this and didn’t get it on camera, I liked how Shane handled it too, he cares about Ryan so much and it’s great. Shane was clearly very tired, I feel bad for him, men his age shouldn’t be up so late 😉 I can’t believe next week is the last one 😩
Let me tell you, man.
When I finished the episode, I had this uneasy feeling with me. Like, I don’t get easily scared even thought I’m a believer, too, but this episode had something. I really liked it and I can’t wait for the PM, I want to see what Shane has to say about all this and what will Ryan say, too.
Shane handle the whole situation in such a great way, honestly-- no doubt here he cares for Ryan a lot. They are such good friends, and Shane knows well when to shut up and just be there to be reasonable and mantain Ryan with his feet in the ground, not let his mind take all from him.
“Man his age shouldn’t be up so late” LMAO, the best part of this is that he may agree with that lol. He was really tired, he sounded kinda sick, so maybe he was catching a cold or something lol.
Can’t wait for next week! I really want to watch the PM for this episode and what will be the season final.
Thanks for your message, as always!

Had a galaxy brain moment while thinking about last march, when the boys were filming season 4 of supernatural and Shane got the fucking mustache, him winning the pool game for Ryan against TJ, with his sexy leg over the table, and Ryan dancing for him at top the stairs during Moon River Brewing happened in the spam of two days, AFTER Ryan saw the whatever in Sorrell Weed House and Shane was looking all Like That, and also got the pretty view room in Savannah that Ryan instagrammed about. The same room he then posted to be working in, after the night that may happened.
Savannah, tell me your secrets.

Something that always gets me from that deleted scene clip of the Sorrel Weed House is how upset Shane sounds about Ryan being braver now, disrespecting the ghosts and whatnot.
For someone that enjoyed the hell out of having Ryan entering his game during the Goatman episode, he wasn’t having none of it this lastest season of Supernatural.
Probably because Shane himself was trying to be respectful in his own way and seeing Ryan being freely disrespectful of the ghosts made him want to let his words down.
But also, I’m thinking-- all these times he has said he really wants to see something, believe in something beyond science and what it’s known, be more like Ryan. How upsetting to see the man that believes losing that faith, as the person that doesn’t believe but would like to. Must be a shock.
Which is also why is so important to listen to Ryan’s explanation about why he does these things now, because it makes sense. Maybe not to Shane (and other non-believers), but it’s a thing and it’s very interesting to see.
Shane mentioned next season of Supernatural will be the season of disrespect, so I guess we are getting even more chaotic now. It’s gonna be interesting to watch, especially for Ryan’s reaction. I wonder if he’ll joing in.
