Yeah and at one point Dean gets told by a werewolf dentist that he has a shit ton of cavities because he’s no longer God’s special princess and he needs to be put under to get them all fixed so he has a vivid anesthesia dream where he’s doing a tap number and…hey where are you going? I haven’t even gotten to the part about the speculated symbolism of the lamp he’s dancing with!

i hear you on the dean clearing vamp nests by himself but i feel like people forget “the heroes’ journey” and how often the brothers had protagonist armor strategically keeping them out of harm’s way, which would’ve been removed after jack became a “hands off” god. i completely agree the finale was dumb and i did not want dean to die (at least not *that* way), but narratively speaking it doesn’t *not* make sense that he would lose that armor and get hurt. the last couple seasons sought to prove they’re not invincible. so objectively, i saw what the writing was going for even if, objectively, the execution was… terrible lol. does that make sense??
i totally get you but honestly i have a lot of problems with 15x10 for that reason too. like sam and dean trained their goddamned asses off to become hunters. they were literally robbed of their childhood to do it!! so to turn around and act like they can’t even pick a lock without chuck’s influence is utterly ridiculous to me. in some ways it makes their entire journey feel pointless. so i usually just prefer to look at that episode as chuck “cursing” them with bad luck (and that’s how they’re able to gamble it back later) as opposed to removing some silly plot armor or whatever lol just for my own sanity at least

Season 15 of Supernatural is all over the place, one episode will revolve around them trying to kill God, and then the next one is about Dean having a dream where he tap dances with a lamp that may or may not represent Castiel while he's under anesthesia getting 17 cavities fixed because he got pulled off of God's healthcare plan

Hi! I know things are a bit crazy right now, but would you mind explaining lamp-gate? Most of the other -gates I've got a pretty clear picture of, but this one I've somehow missed. Best I've got is it's somehow to do with lampshading, but no idea of the actual details
Oh no worries! So unfortunately I was not present live during s15 airing, but from what I have gathered, why lamp/lampgate has to do with that scene in 15x10 The Heroes' Journey, when Dean goes to Garth to get his cavities filled. He hallucinates/has this dream sequence where he tap dances to "Let's Misbehave" by Cole Porter which apparently has a ton of LGBTQ+ lore attached to it (via @deanwasalwaysbi). Definitely read through that post which goes into a lot more detail.
The long and short of it is that the lamp is theorized to be a stand-in for Cas especially since at the very end of that episode he is looking at Garth and Bess dancing in their living room and is like "I always thought I'd be good at dancing" or something similar.
From there, my understanding is that fandom did lamp=light and looking back on various episodes, there are lighting shifts whenever Cas is mentioned in the context of Dean. Off the top of my head, an example is at the end of 13x05 Advanced Thanatology when Dean gets a call from Cas saying he's alive and his face both figuratively and literally lights up.
There are also often instances of Cas standing under lamp posts which are supposed to symbolize a halo since we don't see actual halos in the spnverse.
Additionally in Dean's room in the bunker, there is furniture doubling at times, can't quite remember the specifics right now, but there are times when there are 2 table lamps/end tables and times where there are not. I believe in the finale everything is doubled and in comparison the absence of Cas is LOUD especially when taken with the insane number of empty beer and liquor bottles littering the place. (Don't take my word for this though because I've seen the finale exactly once.)
I hope that helps but anyone else can add on too!!

I know there's like 3473298 different headcanons about how Sam sees Dean and Cas's dynamic but I haven't really seen a lot of discussion about that brief moment in 15x10 where Dean is holding Garth's baby (who was literally named after Cas lol) and he's like, "this Cas keeps looking at me weird," and then Sam's all like, "So kind of like the real Cas." Like at the very least you could interpret that as Sam being canonically aware that Cas looks at Dean specifically in a unique way that Sam also considers "weird," which could mean nothing... unless? 🤔💡👬😳🙈

The whole Charlie infinite credit card thing is a really cowardly retcon actually. Like in theory the whole point of 15x10 is pointing to all of the little storytelling conveniences that get waved off under willing suspension of disbelief and poking holes in them (including literally, in the case of Dean’s teeth), except with the credit card they don’t really, because instead of simply showing Sam and Dean’s apparently infinite money to be silly, they’ve offered a brand new in-world explanation. While ostensibly critiquing the scaffolding that facilitates their own show, they’re really pulling their punches. Like, the fact that Sam and Dean were somehow picking locks for over a decade by doing ????? is delightful, but the writers aren’t prepared to extend that further, to salmondean’s money, or – also very egregiously imo – to the originally risky but by now completely routine fbi charade. On the surface the writers making fun of themselves and their show, only they’re afraid to go too far and actually risk looking too silly. Like, they absolutely haven’t given any thought to where Sam and Dean’s money was coming from for about the last ten years. Coming up with a way to weasel out of it is a copout, and it would have served the point of the episode much better if they’d actually stuck to their guns.

In The Hero’s Journey, when Sam loses his heroic plot armor, the fact that he’s clumsy is The Best Thing Ever.
Like, immediately, he’s a disaster in the kitchen (maybe he shouldn't have bothered the food?), he slips coming up the stairs, and he knocks over a bunch of shit at the case.
They should’ve kept it, and in a fit of irony, his clumsiness saves the day. Through a series of whacky, seemingly impossible, bizarre, Rube Goldberg-like events, Chuck is defeated.
Sam literally trips his way into victory.
The end.
///
Imagine it:
AU Bobby (on retraining Sam): "Oh, come on. A little clumsiness never killed anyone."
(Bobby watches Sam at work)
AU Bobby: 'Cept you. You're gonna take care of yourself before the baddies even get close.
On a subsequent case, all four of our mains are stealthing and (CRASH). “Sam," Cas says, genuinely horrified, with just a hint of blame. Later, after another BOOM, Jack says, "Sam," too, but like he's suffering from secondhand embarrassment on his behalf.
///
JUST LOOK AT HIM:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
SAM: Who left this cooking? Doesn't dinner usually cook itself? I'd better--oop--
///
Tumblr media Tumblr media
SAM: Ow. OW. OW--oop. (CRASH) OH-OW-THIS-IS-HOT-TOO-WHY IS IT--oop!
///
Tumblr media
SAM: Whooooa, stairs, STAIRS--oop.
///

SAM: (BANG) It—oop.
DEAN: Really?
SAM: It fell by itself.
DEAN: I watched you walk into it.

SAM: Hai-yaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
///
Sam-fuckin-Winchester, everyone.

(I made this with you in mind @couldnt-think-of-a-funny-name. And I regret nothing.)
Also. Someone NEEDS to let me remake season 15 where they don't get any luck back. Please. It was the weird everyone-teams-up ending we deserved.

ok pasting my tags from this post into it’s own post because i need to really talk about this now like. dean's reaction to seeing Bess and Garth dance with each other in their kitchen is to say, “you know i always thought i could be a good dancer if i wanted to be” and...and something i’m only JUST realizing as i type this is that he doesn’t say “could have been” he says “i could be, if i wanted to” he’s realizing !!! he’s realizing he could have that !! in the episode where god has checked out of the building he realizes for the first time that...if he wants something, he can have it. there’s nothing stopping him from having it.
and THEN. sam says, “you were awesome at the macarena.” past tense. like there’s no future. no room for change. and then, so my tags.
#ok but this metaphor like. he wanted to dance for real he wanted to dance from the heart he wanted to feel the music and let it move him#and Sam says. well you were really great at dancing this one dance that is just pre-set moves and following instructions#like !!!!! SCREAMING BITING KILLIING#he just wanted to be in love and have this simple life#and it’s like. welp u were able to do a good imitation u were able to follow simple steps ok#which is like. all his mediocre and failed attempts at normal relationships. his time w Lisa just going thru the motions#when what he really wanted was someone (Cas) to just sway with and dance spontaneously with in their living room !!!!
it’s like. he just wants to dance with somebody. dancing is the domestic, dancing is love, dancing is the life he wants. and he thinks, maybe i could.....and sam says, well, you tried once and were ok at following that dance with the pre-set moves. which also.....in a narrative all about choice and free will and breaking out of the narrative that’s trying to dictate their every move...saying you were good at the dance that tells you exactly what to do is...well. and on top of THAT he says it DISMISSIVELY (unaware little brother sammy strikes again)
Tumblr media
and dean frowns :( “dick” yea sammy why >:(
anyways so, his dancing dream. he first learns the steps from garth (garth who has the domestic life he wants), he starts off modeling garth. but then he breaks free and does his own thing !!!! and then he dances with LAMP (CAS). and then he’s dancing for himself. it’s his dance now. and that’s what he wants !!! that’s his dream. his own life, his life w/ someone he loves, his own dance. him making all the moves now.
