Artist's note: Here's my second collab for this year's @spnregencybb, this time on the artists' side. Tossukka wrote a beautiful story and it was a delight to create art for it. There were several scenes pulling me in, but in the end I stuck with Dean in his Captain's uniform, the moment he meets Castiel again. It's such a beautiful and heartfelt scene in the story.

Bang Art Time!!!

This time it’s for Neonbat’s Regency Bang: Contentment in Meadows Green.

In my opinion Neon really nails down the “Regency Era” speech, I throughly enjoyed that. I honestly have never read a Regency fic before and I was really surprised by how much it reminded me of classic novels from back then. I did read Pride and Prejudice at least two and a half times after all! 

This scene happens just at the start of the fic, it’s short but I really liked the idea of Dean and Cas dancing together upon meeting at the party so I decided to go ahead and illustrate it.

One more question! I finished The Curious Case of Cuthbert Sinclair recently and I LOVED IT. What fic of yours should I read next?

Ooh, yay! I��m so glad you enjoyed it, @ellen-of-oz and I had a great time working on that together. I guess my recommendation depends on the aspects of The Curious Case of Cuthbert Sinclair you liked the most.

If you liked the mystery, the action, the harlequin-level Destiel romance set in that kind of era... I’d definitely say The Shadow in the Corner should be your next stop. It’s a steampunk adventure with a TON of UST and BAMF Dean and Cas. 

If you liked the historical part and the romance, then I’d say you should try Of Lords and Letters, next. That one is shorter, and very much a romance. Dean and Cas start out as penpals while Dean is at war, but soon become everything to each other. 

If you like Of Lords and Letters, there was a whole @spnregencybb this year which is full of fun fics from that era, so check out their blog -- @ellen-of-oz wrote one of those too, The Gentle Art of Persuasion.

Summary:

Castiel's soul mark always felt more like a burden than a blessing. He never expected to find a match, someone he could imagine sharing his life with - not until Dean Winchester. Castiel and his brother Gabriel work as soul mark artists, tattooing those not born with marks; Gabriel does the tattooing and, with his thorough botanical knowledge, Cas makes the inks. But when they go to an estate for a young man named Sam Winchester, Cas discovers that knowing the language of flowers is a far cry from knowing the language of love. How can he convince Dean, a man so rarely able to make his own choices who hates his own soul mark, that being together is worth it, regardless of whether the universe says they're meant to be or not?

His eyes gazed over the lovely, bare sight of him.  The flowers they’d been working with had been left in the bed, and one small pink petal was stuck to Dean’s mouth, just at the corner of his lip.  He breathed softly, his lips just parted.  Castiel’s gaze was drawn to the little scrap of flower silk, sharp as a blade.  He wanted to touch it, press against where it touched Dean’s skin.  He wanted to rub it off with the pad of his thumb, he wanted to trace the warm circle of Dean’s soft, pliant mouth, press his thumb inside—

He swallowed and did not move, save to touch Dean’s cheek with the backs of his fingers.  It would not hurt to look, he thought, to impress the sight into his memory for warmth in the cold, barren moments of his life to come.  There was a spray of freckles across Dean’s cheeks, pale but still visible, no doubt from his time as a sportsman.  His neck was strong, but with his head tipped back it made him look unexpectedly delicate.  In repose, Dean was lovely.  He was always lovely, but he did his best to counter that with his rough talk and rough hands and the abrasive, defensive way he approached the rest of the world.  And then, the dip of his clavicle, and—

Castiel’s breath caught in his throat. His heart was pounding in his chest as he took in the last thing he ever expected to see. There was a shape, unmistakable on Dean’s shoulder. It was the shape of a large hand.
