[Swap Au] (because I've lost control of my life)

I didn't try on the souljam bc I'm sick of drawing that thing istg

TW: DISSOCIATION/this au is a bit darker than my usual stuff, not too much but look out for yourself

You can pretty much tell what this au is about by the title but anyways:

Choco: I want to get this sword!

Cacao: No. I'm not letting you go out and get killed on a wild goose chase. Lemme.

[Tl;dr Cacao gets the sword, and while the soul jam is able to protect him from the curse, the curse starts seeping into it. (I've been making a lot of soul jam Aus recently 👀) ]

He notices that he's been more easily agitated, his mind has been being corrupted, and just generally stuff involving his beserk form (curse au who?) at an unprecedented amount, all while the sword is being inspected for any issues by researchers in the citadel for any issues. Realizing he's becoming more and more dangerous, and things might reach a boiling point, he runs away in the dead of night. Leading him eventually to the COD, but at that point the curse infecting his soul jam has corrupted enough of him to be unable to refuse their offer.

In this Au he's kinda unhinged but also silent, the voices in his head and the pain and regret surrounding him make it hard for him to think. DE despite some sorrow for her old friend is able to use this, because he doesn't have the mental capacity to deny any requests of bl00dshed. He's pretty much kinda dissociated from his actions. This all leads to the beginning of fights, attempts to help him, and issues at PV Kingdom.

Design:

His hair was slightly matted from his time in the woods, so DE had to cut it, along with that he's mostly wearing what he had under his usual clothes, but I'd imagine hed get something new later (like choco). He also got a bit of a gradient on his hair ^^ and some corruption on his face.

So my mind’s been just running with the “Strawberry Jam Sword is a corrupted Soul Jam” idea I posited earlier today, and so I made this

So for the joke context, it’s supposed to be that the other Soul Jams can recognize that the Strawberry Jam Sword is a corrupted Soul Jam (even if only they know), and they can just like, sense the evil coming from it. Meanwhile the SJS doesn’t like them for the opposite reasons, and so when you put two of them close together, they just like, hate each other on site and start hissing at each other like cats. Thing is, nobody else but their wielders (and probably the other Soul Jams) can hear them, and nobody knows about the SJS’s true nature, so to them they’re just hearing random hissing and don’t know where it’s coming from. Also they can each only hear their Jam’s side of the argument, if there is one

I like to think they eventually figure out it’s coming from the swords, so they pull them away, only for the noise to stop, then put them next to each other again, and they start hissing again. And then just doing this repeatedly, meanwhile any outsider seeing this is like “what the heck are you two doing?”

Also, potentially the reason these two just keep choosing violence against the other, their swords are each subconsciously making them want to fight one another, whether intentionally or not. Not sure if I’m keeping that as legitimate, but I dunno. It’s a possible explanation

Honestly I think I need to draw Dark Cacao more, because while I can draw Dark Choco just fine, Dark Cacao gives me trouble. Might also just be because Dark Cacao’s outfit is much more complex. Also probably because I drew this without a sketch layer, which I never do in these kinds of drawings

But yeah, random funny idea from my head that I wanted to share

Okay this is my several months long sketches of Strawberry before my laptop died.

Yes unlike many interpretations of what can be under her hood, I personally headcanon that her hair is green. Like this little thingy on top of real strawberries.

I also headcanon that due to her being made of strawberries(or at least flavored with them) Strawberry is unaffected to strawberry jam sword curse, and can wield its power without a risk being mind controlled

Also, berserk Strawberry cuz I like the trope when shy and quiet character is pissed enough to tear everyone apart:D

Something I simply HAD to draw after seeing @i-ate-a-purse’s depiction of the Strawberry Jam Sword coming to haunt Dark Choco after he left the Cookies of Darkness!

Also, with a chat I had with @thetropicalfairy, I came to a headcanon that there were past warriors who wielded the Strawberry Jam Sword- but at a cost. The more battles they won with it, the more they lost their humanity until they were reduced to nothing more than a mindless monster. The reason for this happening was because Strawberry Jam Cookie, an ancient Cookie general with the bloodlust of a Kaiju and an unending distrust for the Cookie World, was sealed away by the Legendary Cookies before he could do anymore damage. The reason he leeches off cookies’ humanity? It’s so he can become stronger and keep his youth ala Tirek from MLP.

Also, before the Holiday Cake Shop event, I headcanon that much to the other Cookies of Darkness’ chagrin, he sliced a tapestry of Dark Enchantress Cookie down the middle and smashed the Strawberry Jam sword against a stone, destroying it for good. He was the one to break the cycle and not lose his humanity to the cursed blade. With that being said, the pic shows my depiction of Strawberry Jam Cookie (The white haired dude, and the one who was kept prisoner in the sword) haunting Dark Choco and telling him that he should’ve kept the blade with him. Whatever you do, princey- DON’T LISTEN TO HIM!! YOU’RE IMPROVING YOUR LIFE!!!

Today, we are going to be dissecting Dark Cacao and Dark Choco's relationship via MLP, because this song is just too good.

Also idc if you see it as cringe, it's ✨my blog.✨

Ok so. This song. But in Dark Cacao and Dark Choco.

Ok so, to sum up my ramblings because I can't stop thinking about it.

Celesitia's verse is Dark Cacao after the events of chapters 13-14, when he finally realized what a douchebag he's been to, not only his son, but the entire kingdom basically. Failing his duties as a father due to his very not well mental status, as well as trying to keep up with the declining state of the kingdom. He loves Dark Choco, but unintentionally pushed him away and didn't make room to care for him more growing up.

"And Neither had [s]he loved [her] as [she] deserved. [S]he watched as [her sister's] unhappiness grew."

Dark Choco in turn, felt frustrated. He loves his father, but felt hurt and angry towards him. So he went in search of the sword, only for the dang thing to use his emotions against him and turn against his homeland.

I'm stealing this headcanon from the comics, but basically, in the comics, the sword's curse basically sort of enhances your strong negative emotions. In the comics, Dark Choco lost control when he believed his crush friend was hurt, and his anger took control over him, amplified by the sword's curse.

My interpretation of canon is somewhat similar. The strawberry jam sword amplified Dark Choco's emotions to the point where he lost control and attacked Cacao, resulting in his banishment. However, he still has some semblance of awareness and control over his actions. He still actively chooses the path of darkness, believing it to be the only path left he could travel. He still chose to hurt people, even when he knew that's not what he wanted. He didn't stop until the end of the cacao chapters.

Ok, back to the music. Luna's Soliloquy is basically Choco pre-chapter 13-14, and how despite how much he's (rightfully) angry, hurt, and upset at his father for what he did, he still misses him, and yearns to make things right.

"My pain grows, I can't know. Are you still the same?"

But after so long, and when he finally received some semblance of closure for what happened, the sword's grip on his soul weakened, because his negative emotions weakened. He was able to come to terms with what happened. He's still very much hurt, and is still recovering, but he's able to accept his emotions better. It'll take a while until they can both meet again, and make things right, but I can't help but think of their story whenever I listen to this song.

I mean that’d be cool, don’t get me wrong, and we’d finally have an answer about the SJS, at least in Ovenbreak since I don’t know if Kingdom would plan to follow that continuity, but I can’t deny it being from space feels like quite the left turn. I know I'm not the best when it comes to getting canon characterization right, but when I deviate from canon, I (usually) have a justified reason for doing so. Whether that be projection or differences for AU purposes, it's usually understandable.

And then there's the pain that comes from blatant mischaracterization that has nothing to do with an AU, and it's either because the person genuinely sees the character that way or does it for weird shipping purposes. Like, really weird shipping purposes. I'm talking "Character A is such a frail bottom UwU" and "Character B is such a strong top, protecting their precious partner". THAT kind of weird change for shipping. Especially when it comes to LGBTQ+ couples.

thinkin about aus again...

Two specific aus,

1.an au where Dark Choco dies in the cold after being exiled. that's it, thats the whole au.

2. an au where the strawberry jam sword never existed, or at the very least wasn't known by dark choco and when dark choco would have gone off to get the sword dark choco and dark cacao in this au were getting therapy, and now their super attached to each other n they hold hands and walk around with each other a lot. just them improving with each other, because of each other but still have their flaws. Dark cacao despite being in therapy for such a long time still struggles with identifying more complex emotions and not being able to express them sometimes and acting in a bad way because of it, maybe dark choco becomes clingy to his father and him having to learn how to not worry that dark cacao will go back to the way he was and become unable to interact with him again. Dark Cacao and Dark Choco learning to be vulnerable around each other again and learning how to actively choose to spend time with each other without fear. I just keep imagining dark cacao with softer eyes n glasses and dark choco with longer hair and them holding hands as they walk n shit 🥺

Dark Cacao anxiously congratulates Dark Choco on a hunt after a month of being in therapy and just sees Dark Choco's eyes light up reassuring him that what he was doing was all worth it and that he has nothing to worry about. That his anxiety about being open about his affection and being vulnerable with his son was unwarranted and it'll be okay. i jus 😭
