No, don't do this to me lmao I'm such a die-hard multi-shipper it hurts!

God, I enjoy each one of these ships in such a unique way — they all have something that appeals to my psyche but it's so dependent on my mood.

I think it's no secret that I go feral for whatever the hell the Lestat/Armand dynamic is, like to me that one truly encapsulates every kind of relationship you could think of (platonic, familial, romantic). It's just so explosive and visceral, so intense and spanning over two hundred years. Love the baggage and the narrative foils. But I am also tired, they wear me out because the drama and emotion is always PEAK. Please... just go watch a movie together and chill out or something, I'm begging.

Armand/Daniel and Marius/Armand are great when I'm craving maker/fledging angst and a power dynamics that can never truly be balanced. It's so good! Both ships have their own very unique brand of torment with a plethora of kink tropes. 

Armand/Louis, though? I don't know... that's just where I go to lay my sweet head when I need a break. And it's wild considering that was the angstiest, most tragic ship I could think of in VC prior to the PL trilogy coming out. But then Anne gave us Trinity Gate, and I love that. I love that they got to have that cozy domestic era and they both grew so much during such a short amount of time.

I love that they had been together before and even though the dissolution of their relationship in IWTV was so painful, there's little still comments and throwaway lines that appear throughout the books indicating they had a mutual tenderness and love for each other still, before Trinity Gate. They both love Lestat very much, but I think they understand each other in a way that Lestat can't understand either of them. They're the same side of the same coin and Lestat is on the other side of that coin.

So I guess tonight my response would be: keep Armand and Louis. They deserve some peace and comfort. 🤧

Dracula by Bram Stoker was first published in 1897; it was written by a staunchly protestant middle class man at the tail end of the Victorian era. It is exactly 127 years old. Dracula, as a novel, is a not-so-thinly implied standing for declining influence and power of the “nobility” in the wake of the rise of the middle class, and industrialization. In a lot of ways, Dracula is the manifestation of the Victorian fear of progression. He’s a shambling, snarling relic of the past. It is why (spoilers) in the end he is slain. Because not even the fiercest of demons can stop the march of time. Jonathan, despite his suffering, became his undoing; because he represented the coming of modernity.

Now, Stoker, of course, could never have predicted “Dracula Daily”, or the diverse audience that both it and Hollywood has given his novel. A hundred and over a quarter years out it is still being read. He could never have predicted that his work would be sexualized (scandalous!), that his demon would become an icon, nor that it would be a piece of classical media that is still (and will still) be studied for years to come. In fact

I say all of this, because;

It’s okay to enjoy it. It’s okay to think it’s distasteful in parts. It’s okay to tear it into pieces and find that little morsel inside to sink your teeth into. That is how we got Castlevania, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Hellsing, and so many other interpretations salvaged from the tropes it established. Being able to parse your media, and be critical of it, is a keystone of literary discourse. Picking the novel apart has been what has kept it alive in pop culture for over a century. It’s fine to be disgusted with Stoker’s representations of disability and race. They are antiquated. He is an antiquated. It is why so much of it has been stripped from popular interpretations of the novel. Like flesh from bone; we consume Dracula like his ilk consumed people. He has no power now, but you do, and enjoy this little bit you’ve got.

Lucy telling Mina about her horrible dream which may or may not be caused by the Count's hypnosis, then laughing immediately after was so harrowing, and melancholic. I'm sure she is just laughing to convince Mina that it was nothing important, but at the same time it also looks like she is trying to convince herself the same thing. If she can laugh about it that means it wasn't that bad right?

That dream sequence is one of the most haunting parts of the book. It reminded me of the hypnosis sequence of Jonathan by the weird Sisters back in Transylvania. The sound of all the dogs barking, Lucy trying to describe Dracula but only remembering his red eyes, her feeling like she was drowning and how her soul was leaving. It's like her mind was trying to make sense of what could have been Lucy's first touch with death.

Then, after telling what could have been an unconscious near-death experience, Lucy laughs as if she was saying "Oh silly me, having these weird dreams while sleepwalking", but Mina is not laughing, which is something very kind of her. Mina gets disturbed by Lucy's laughs, and she just looks at her because what is she supposed to do in that moment? What is supposed to say about the subject when it's clear that Lucy is sharing something that makes her feel vulnerable? Better change the subject before Lucy thinks about something more sinister about her dream.

On Eddie x Jason.

This post is literally me just admitting that in my Harringrove Family Legacy save, Eddie and Jason have their own household and about a million babies. Feel free to keep scrolling.

This is a “deep dark” secret admission because the character of Jason Carver makes me Ted Talk Mad and everything to do with his role in S4 steps on my black girl trauma. It is what it is and like I said, I could give a Ted Talk on it, but that’s another post. This post is about me creating virtual dolls and making them play happy families because that’s something my soul needs. I’m here to verify that humans are complex and contrary individuals, because the ex-evangelical in me hungers for the very public, very messy, very gay awakening of this character. Church mouse to proud heathen stories are my jam. So I made toast in the sims and put jam on it just to see how i’d feel. Picture me crying into my toast because it’s delicious with jam, just like every other time. 😂 The betrayal!

Jokes aside, I don’t know if I will ever be able to comfortably engage with the rest of fandom enough to go all in with shipping this pair, cause to be frank that’s just asking for more black girl trauma and we’re not about that in this house. But their sims are hella cute and it makes me feel good, creating a story where Jason gets to grow up and change for the better instead of being sliced in half by a monster. I guess I am just a solid believer that teenagers deserve the chance to change no matter how bad you think they are.🤷🏾‍♀️
