Character Masterpost!
I’ll have to edit this as I go along but in any case here are my characters! They all have specific tags as well that will be listed in well, the tags! I’ll get better screenshots at some point too dw (either that or I’m just gonna straight-up draw them). Putting these guys under the cut cuz i have a TON of characters and nobody wants to scroll through all that lmao
The Commanders
Tumblr media
Commander Lysander Ciaran
He/they | Unlabeled Gender/Sexuality | 12 | 5′3″ | Willbender/Dragonhunter
Despite his small stature, Lysander packs one hell of a punch, both in personality and combat skills. He’s been fighting his whole life, even before he was truly “born” and he doesn’t really know anything else. Unlike the other Commanders they’re always off doing something. The mere idea of sitting around and doing nothing makes them antsy. Despite this, they have a love for luxury and will use their charm and flirtatious ways to get out of anything. Their former allegiance to the Order of Whispers helped with that.
Originally, he dated Trahearne, and the two were inseparable until well, you know. Trahearne asked Lysander to be the one to kill him, but they couldn’t bring themselves to do it. Their fellow Commander Xeta took up the mantle instead. Since then it’s taken a while for him to readjust to well, everything. He wielded Broken Caladbolg around like a glorified club before Sol reforged the sword for him.
Overall, his story follows the canon Sylvari story (green knight, malyck) the closest. He’s also fiercely protective of Taimi.

Commander Xeta Lionheart
They/she | Nonbinary | Lesbian | 25-35 | 6′3″ | Virtuoso/Chronomancer
Xeta has grown up actively defying expectations. They became a mesmer after witnessing a human traveling performer as a cub. Later on, they left their warband to join the Priory, finding field research and planning from afar to be far more up their alley.
Later on she befriended Lysander and Aralynn, the three of them becoming Commanders of the Pact and Trahearne’s closest confidants. Xeta didn’t exactly want to be in a position of power again, but her tactician skills she learned in Ash Legion and unorthodox combat abilities made her an integral part of the team.
They have a not-so-secret love of Quaggans, and she was gifted a backpack as a gag gift from Trahearne. After his death she never takes it off.

Tumblr media
Commander Aralynn Song
She/her | Trans woman | Aro/ace | 20-30 | 3′ | Soulbeast/Untamed
Aralynn never got along with her peers. From the get-go she was ostracized for being “less intelligent” than other Asura her age. In truth, her intellect was better suited for more practical purposes such as survival skills and outdoorsmanship. At the first chance she got, she dropped out of the College of Dynamics and migrated east to Caledon Forest.
She had heard things about the Sylvari, and where her peers saw creatures to study, she saw a culture to learn everything about. In Caledon she befriended many people and finally felt at home. The Sylvari’s carefree and genuine nature opened her mind to a lot of things, including her own identity. She changed her name to something more befitting of a Caledon local and never looked back. Later on she joined the Order of Whispers after getting caught up in some Asuran affairs with Zojja, using the Order has her escape route after being immediately reminded of why she hated Metrica and Rata Sum. There, she met Lysander and the two became fast friends. The rest is history.
Out of the three, she has the strongest connection with Aurene. She has some self-worth issues, but is incredibly considerate of other people. While Xeta is a fantastic tactician, Aralynn is always the first to think outside the box.

The Helping Hands
(Basically extra Dragon’s Watch homies)
Tumblr media
Sol Shungite
He/him | Male | Unlabeled | 10-20 | 6′3″ | Holosmith/Mechanist
Sol is the antithesis of a lot of things. Sylvari ideology being one of them, a typical Priory Magister being the other. He joined the Nightmare Court relatively young, initially agreeing with the view that the Pale Tree’s influence was suffocating. While in the Court, he mostly used it as an excuse to do what he wanted, conducting small-scale experiments. He befriended a timid revenant named Naoise, being the only one who was nice to him. Later on, the two broke out, Sol freed the White Stag he was credited with capturing, and killed Gavin, his recruiter. Naoise and Sol went their separate ways, but always had a feeling they’d run into each other again.
The Grove rejected his return, Caithe especially. Bitter, Sol left and joined the Priory, connecting with Sieran. She seemed to be the only Sylvari who never looked at him like he was some evil time-bomb, and she brought out the best in him. This was short-lived, however, as her death caused him to sink back into his ways of pessimism and apathy. He continued to be an asset to the Priory, albeit a very very volatile one. The forming of the Pact led him to the rest of Dragon’s Watch, and he slowly became a strange addition to the group.
He much prefers machinery to nature, and is often seen creating some new crazy addition to his armor. He runs on spite, especially when Caithe is involved, and often does petty things to “get back” at her. He’s quick to anger, frustrating to be around, but nevertheless a devout member of Dragon’s Watch.

Tumblr media
Rashaad Abara
He/him | Male | Pansexual | 18-28 | 6′ | Bladesworn
A noble hailing from Divinity’s Reach with a mix of Elonian and Canthan heritage. His ancestors fled Palawa Joko’s oppressive nature, finally settling in Kryta. The Abara family has a great reputation among the city, and Rashaad always felt like he had some predetermined role to fulfil. When his older sister Thandiwe joined the Seraph, however, his view of the world began to shake. Her subsequent “death” sent a shockwave of grief through the family, but Rashaad was determined to find out what happened to her.
He ventured out into Kryta with nothing but a greatsword and his noble clothes. He wasn’t amazing with his sword but it came naturally enough. Eventually he did find his sister, alive, and decided to continue on in his escapades of adventure. He joined the Order of Whispers, befriended a rather intimidating charr woman, fell in love, and Oh Gods he’s married to a charr and he didn’t even tell his parents--
He’s a very sweet and sensitive guy, but his ability to manipulate and his battle prowess make him a force to be reckoned with. He has a strong sense of justice and a desire to fight for the greater good, but he can also get overwhelmed very quickly.
(Rashaad primarily exists in my bf’s whole commander au dealio but he’s also here so meh)
Tumblr media
Diviner Axel
Any Pronouns | Genderqueer | Bisexual | 14-24 | 4′ | Mirage
Axel joined Dragon’s Watch much later than the rest, having gone on his own personal journey for a while. After becoming fascinated with divination, they centered their whole thesis on a theory that there was an actual science behind it. The College of Synergetics was less than forthcoming, but Axel was not deterred.
They stowed away on a ship to Elona, learning the ways of the Mirage and becoming even more fascinated with sand and divination. Unfortunately her personality makes her a bit hard to get along with. She’s full of herself (calling herself a diviner for instance), loud, has no sense of boundaries, and loves pulling pranks. Nevertheless, xyr tenacity caught the eye of Lysander, who was more than happy to let xem onto the team. The rest of Dragon’s Watch isn’t so sure, though. Deep down Axel is truly grateful for Lysander believing in it, but so far he’s the only one it’s opened up to. Her strange personality is mostly a deflection for the scrutiny she faces.
After tampering with strange magics, Axel’s eyes are an oppressive shade of orange, with swirly shapes embedded into the iris. Their hands glow like fire and are hot to the touch.

The Cinder Warband
Tumblr media
Aidoneus Cinderglow
He/him | Male | Straight, Ace | 48-58 | 6′ | Reaper/Scourge
A former member of the Flame Legion, it took Aidoneus a long time to defect. Mostly because it was all he had known. However, he was unsatisfied with his role, and defected to Blood Legion with mixed success. He wasn’t killed, thank the Khan-Ur, but he was reduced to the lowest of the low in charr society. He spent years trying to prove himself in The Bane with no success. Eventually, he left the Legions altogether.
He formed the Cinder warband, an unofficial group that takes in people from all walks of life who’ve fallen on hard times. Mostly those who deal in death such as necromancers and revenants, but anyone is welcome to the group. The band occasionally crosses paths with the Pact, and is always willing to lend a helping hand if need be.
He’s scarily humble and down to earth, even though he’s super gruff about it. While he’s nice enough, he’s far from a pushover and is an absolute terror in a fight.
Tumblr media
Khumbo Cinderglory
She/her | Female | Straight | 29-39 | 8′6″ | Harbinger
Tbh I don’t have much information about her yet. She’s a Norn and a member of the Cinder warband, though! Kind of Bayonetta inspired
Tumblr media
Dogwood Cinderstorm
He/they | Trans man | Gay | 15 | 5′10″| Renegade
Dogwood is a super no-nonsense and to-the-point sylvari. Even down to his name. He spends most of his time traveling Tyria alone, taking on bigger and bigger bounties. They usually fight monsters but aren’t opposed to taking out enemy factions either. He’s a sword for hire, and he’s damn good at it.
He channels the spirits of monsters he’s slain, taking on a wild, more animalistic style of fighting. Despite his strange methods he’s incredibly efficient, and pretty well-off as well. He joined the ‘band as a way to get more leads and information for new hunts, and also having some backup is nice. He’s not super used to the company yet, though.
Others of Note
Tumblr media
Suibhne Amaryllis
He/they | Genderfluid | Pansexual | 18 | 5′11″ | Catalyst/Tempest
Suibhne owned a popular Sylvari-owned and operated club and inn in Lion’s Arch. The whole business was super chill and well-known for its gossip. Unfortunately, the building was destroyed during Scarlet’s Invasion, causing Suibhne to go on a pilgrimage to rebuild his business. Now that Lion’s Arch has been rebuilt, he’s merely traveling for fun with Canach.
They’re incredibly theatrical and dramatic, rarely taking anything seriously. He’s loud, opulent, and loose-lipped as hell (made even worse considering he has Whispers connections). Although, he’s very protective of anyone he cares about, and won’t hesitate to pull out his giant hammer to prove that theory. He’ll gladly beat your ass, all with a smile, of course.
Coriander Wolfsbane
She/it | Demigirl | Pansexual | 15 | 5′6″ | Berserker
I haven’t made her yet woops. It’s a chill goth Warden living in Caledon, she’s a good friend of Dogwood and often keeps him in check, making sure he comes and visits once in a while. Mostly to make sure he’s not dead.
Tumblr media
Thandiwe Abara
She/her | Female | Straight | 24-34 | 5′7″ | Weaver
Thandiwe somewhat abandoned her noble way of life, finding fighting centaurs far more fulfilling. Her parents were hesitant at first, but eventually she convinced them to let her join the Seraph. Shorty after moving up in the ranks she was kidnapped, thought to be dead, and held prisoner in a bandit camp for the better part of two years. That was until her younger brother Rashaad found her.
She left the Seraph, joining the Vigil instead. She hoped her brother would follow suit so she could keep a better eye on him but he had other plans. While stationed in Elona during the events of Path of Fire she learned the ways of the Weaver, and combined her swordsmanship and newfound elementalist abilities.
She’s very serious, way more than she used to be. Being locked up in a camp...changed her and left her jaded and bitter. Rashaad’s tried to slowly coax her back into the person she used to be, but eventually he’ll have to realize that he’ll never truly have the old Thandiwe back.
That’s mostly everyone! I have a couple other characters but I’m gonna flesh ‘em out a bit more before I put them on here hehe

#OTD in 1977 – A group of Republicans tunneled into the concrete under the cover of darkness and retrieved Frank Stagg’s body to be re-buried with respect to his final wish, beside his fellow hunger striker and friend, Michael Gaughan.
There is a grave in Leigue Cemetery, Ballina, Co Mayo which has a concrete surface, placed there by the Gardaí in 1976, to prevent Frank Stagg’s body from being stolen. Forty-two years ago, the body was removed from the grave, during the night, without disturbing the concrete, and buried elsewhere in the cemetery. When Stagg died, there was a row over his funeral between the Irish government and…

...as no sacrifice is greater than theirs.
So. I’ve been replaying Origins lately and wanted to do a quick doodle on my main three wardens: Suibhne Tabris, Nari Aeducan and Rimona Surana. In my canon, Duncan picks up both Tabris and Rimona before going to Ostagar where they both Have A Great Time. :’D Then later, they stumbled over Nari in the Deep Roads who has just been slaying darkspawns and dreaming of vengeance since her exile. She’s the easiest recruit they find, lol.
It was a fun little piece to do and it’s always nice drawing these guys again.  🥰

EngVie vs Mhonde
Or
Suibhne vs Mad
(@uselessidiotsquad )
Don't make Mhonde fight EngVie, she still has a grudge against asura
Suibhne probably won't raise a weapon against Mad unless he threatens Maddy, so assuming he did... Mad, run. You're gonna die. He's going to chase you down to the ends of Tyria to kill you, make you swallow his sword and choke on your sap. He feels no kinship with Sylvari, so it doesn't matter to him. You will die. Arrows won't stop him, now matter how many you fire into him and where. Adrenaline will keep him going to kill you.

A fantasy read-list: A-2
Fantasy read-list
Part A: Ancient fantasy
2) Mythological fantasy (other mythologies)
Beyond the Greco-Roman mythology, which remained the main source and main influence over European literature for millenia, two other main groups of myths had a huge influence over the later “fantasy” genres.
# On one side, the mythology of Northern Europe (Nordic/Scandinavian, Germanic, but also other ones such as Finnish). When it comes to Norse mythology, two works are the first names that pop-up: the Eddas. Compilations of old legends and mythical poems, they form the main sources of Norse myths. The oldest of the two is the Poetic Edda, or Elder Edda, an ancient compilation of Norse myths and legends in verse. The second Edda is the Prose Edda, so called because it was written in prose by the Icelandic scholar Snorri Sturluson (alternate names being Snorri’s Edda or the Younger Edda). Sorri Sturluson also wrote numerous other works of great importance, such as Heimskringla (a historical saga depicting the dynasties of Norse kings, starting with tales intermingled with Norse mythology, before growing increasingly “historically-accurate”) or the Ynglinga saga - some also attributed to him the Egil’s Saga.
Other “tales of the North” include, of course, Beowulf, one of the oldest English poems of history, and the most famous version of the old Germanic legend of the hero Beowulf ; the Germanic Völsunga saga and Nibelungenlied ; as well as the Kalevala - which is a bit late, I’ll admit, it was compiled in the 19th century, so it is from a very different time than the other works listed here, but it is the most complete and influential attempt at recreating the old Finnish mythology.
# On the other side, the Celtic mythologies. The two most famous are, of course, the Welsh and the Irish mythologies (the third main branch of Celtic religion, the Gaul mythology, was not recorded in texts).
For Welsh mythology, there is one work to go: the Mabinogion. It is one of the most complete collections of Welsh folktales and legends, and the earliest surviving Welsh prose stories - though a late record feeling the influence of Christianization over the late. It is also one of the earliest appearances of the figure of King Arthur, making it part of the “Matter of Britain”, we’ll talk about later.
For Irish mythology, we have much, MUCH more texts, but hopefully they were already sorted in “series” forming the various “cycles” of Irish mythologies. In order we have: The Mythological Cycle, or Cycle of the Gods. The Book of Invasions, the Battle of Moytura, the Children of Lir and the Wooing of Etain. The Ulster Cycle, mostly told through the epic The Cattle-Raid of Cooley. The Fianna Cycle, or Fenian Cycle, whose most important work would be Tales of the Elders of Ireland. And finally the Kings’ Cycle, with the famous trilogy of The Madness of Suibhne, The Feast of Dun na nGed, and The Battle of Mag Rath.
Another famous Irish tale not part of these old mythological cycles, but still defining the early/medieval Irish literature is The Voyage of Bran.
# While the trio of Greco-Roman, Nordic (Norse/Germanic) and Celtic mythologies were the most influential over the “fantasy literature” as a we know it today, other mythologies should be talked about - due to them either having temporary influences over the history of “supernatural literature” (such as through specific “fashions”), having smaller influences over fantasy works, or being used today to renew the fantasy genre.
The Vedas form the oldest religious texts of Hinduism, and the oldest texts of Sanskrit literature. They are the four sacred books of the early Hinduist religion: the Rigveda, the Yajurveda, the Samaveda and the Atharvaveda. What is very interesting is that the Vedas are tied to what is called the “Vedic Hinduism”, an ancient, old form of Hinduism, which was centered around a pantheon of deities not too dissimilar to the pantheons of the Greeks, Norse or Celts - the Vedas reflect the form of Hinduist religion and mythology that was still close to its “Indo-European” mythology roots, a “cousin religion” to those of European Antiquity. Afterward, there was a big change in Hinduism, leading to the rise of a new form of the religion (usually called Puranic if my memory serves me well), this time focused on the famous trinity of deities we know today: Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.
The classic epics and supernatural novels of China have been a source of inspiration for more Asian-influenced fantasy genres. Heavily influenced and shaped by the various mythologies and religions co-existing in China, they include: the Epic of Darkness, the Investiture of the Gods, Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio, or What the Master does not Speak of - as well as the most famous of them all, THE great epic of China, Journey to the West. If you want less fictionized, more ancient sources, of course the “Five Classics” of Confucianism should be talked about: Classic of Poetry, Book of Documents, Book of Rites, Book of Changes, as well as Spring and Autumn Annals (though the Classic of Poetry and Book of Documents would be the more interesting one, as they contain more mythological texts and subtones - the Book of Changes is about a divination system, the Book of Rites about religious rites and courtly customs, and the Annals is a historical record). And, of course, let’s not forget to mention the “Four Great Folktales” of China: the Legend of the White Snake, the Butterfly Lovers, the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl, as well as Lady Meng Jiang.
# As for Japanese mythology, there are three main sources of information that form the main corpus of legends and stories of Japan. The Kojiki (Record of Ancient Matters), a chronicle in which numerous myths, legends and folktales are collected, and which is considered the oldest literary work of Japan ; the Nihon Shoki, which is one of the oldest chronicles of the history of Japan, and thus a mostly historical document, but which begins with the Japanese creation myths and several Japanese legends found or modified from the Kojiki ; and finally the Fudoki, which are a series of reports of the 8th century that collected the various oral traditions and local legends of each of the Japanese provinces.
# The Mesopotamian mythologies are another group not to be ignored, as they form the oldest piece of literature of history! The legends of Sumer, Akkadia and Babylon can be summed up in a handful of epics and sacred texts - the first of all epics!. You have the three “rival” creation myths: the Atra-Hasis epic for the Akkadians, the Eridu Genesis for the Sumerians and the Enuma Elish story for the Babylonians. And to these three creation myths you should had the two hero-epics of Mesopotamian literature: on one side the story of Adapa and the South Wind, on the other the one and only, most famous of all tales, the Epic of Gilgamesh.
# And of course, this read-list must include... The Bible. Beyond the numerous mythologies of Antiquity with their polytheistic pantheons and complex set of legends, there is one book that is at the root of the European imagination and has influenced so deeply European culture it is intertwined with it... The Bible. European literary works are imbued with Judeo-Christianity, and as such fantasy works are also deeply reflective of Judeo-Christian themes, legends, motifs and characters. So you have on one side the Ancient Testament, the part of the Bible that the Christians have in common with the Jews (though in Judaism the Ancient Testament is called the “Torah”) - the most famous and influential parts of the Ancient Testament/Torah being the first two books, Genesis (the creation myth) and Exodus (the legend of Moses). And on the other side you have the exclusively Christian part of the Bible, the New Testament - with its two most influential parts being the Gospels (the four canonical records of the life of Jesus, the Christ) and The Book of Revelation (the one people tend to know by its flashier name... The Apocalypse).

As of Silt Veres s2 finale, my mood is “none of them should have a good end (except maybe Carpenter) (affectionate)”. Like. I love them all dearly. HOWEVER. They are Doing Things. (More spoiler-heavy elaboration below the cut)
Like. Paige and Hayward have come up with (uncovered? Shaped?) this hugely destructive new god which eats other gods’ sacrifices. That’s gonna fuck up the ecosystem. Paige is going wild (which, like, good for her but also sooooo many more people r gonna die) and Hayward is following her. On the other hand, Faulkner did fucking that. …Both in the sense of what he did to Carpenter after what he did to Mason, and also in the sense of, that just feels like where his character is headed? To me personally I mean.
I could also really go into, like, my thoughts on Carpenter and Faulkner and Siblings (and maybe how that relates to some stuff brought up in the post-s1 QnA, abt Carpenter and Faulkner and religion) but that is, hypothetically, Another Post
Also this is written at some ungodly hour of the morning and was preceded by a light(?) deep dive(?) that uncovered the fact that Mad Sweeney Americangods IS apparently (maybe? According to Wikipedia) Suibhne/Sweeney from the Irish poem Buile Suibhne of which a notable translation is Sweeney Astray and according to Wikipedia has/had an opera adaptation and I learned about the poem some years ago from a murder mystery trilogy written by a musician <3
Anyway listen to this

hiii ♡ opal ring + lace dress + land of wolves + medusa
opal ring: are you sentimental?
yes. fairly unabashedly. i have a lot of items with great personal meaning and value that i keep with me and cherish and i get sad quite often thinking about what was and what can never be.
lace dress: some of your favorite fashion concepts?
i'm actually really really passionate about like historical dress and costuming, and i love seeing old methods for making and wearing clothes get reimagined in the modern day. i especially think it's cool if it's from different cultures that aren't necessarily western european in origin. i also am far more interested in the clothes of working class people and that's where i tend to take most of my current style hints from.
land of wolves: do you have a close friend group?
i have my two besties who i met over discord three years ago and they are my greatest friends and the only two people who really know everything about me. i feel so so lucky to have them in my life.
medusa: what’s your favorite myth?
ohhhhh man. this is rough. i quite like the tale of mad sweeney (or suibhne or shivna) from irish mythology. it's about an irish king who kills a monk with a spear, and is subsequently cursed to wander ireland for seven years until he meets his end by the same means. during his wanderings, he is driven to a state of madness and transforms into a bird-like creature, where he views the world with equal torment and joy. it's fun! it's a good time.

1, 5, 22, 41 for Torin!! ( @astralarias )
Suibhne my poor baby....
Does your character have siblings or family members in their age group? Which one are they closest with?
Not that he knows of. The only person he could count is Madeline, but she's not biologically related to him. And he's a few years older than her.
On an average day, what can be found in your character’s pockets?
A few spare silvers, maybe some copper. Something Madeline handed him to carry since her dresses don't have pockets. A tiny scrap of pink ribbon he always keeps with him.
What does your character like in other people?
When they shut up? In reality, he finds himself longing for the freedom other people have. The ability to just... go. Go where they want. He enjoys listening to adventurers' stories when he can, rare as that is. He feels a sharp pain in his heart when he sees how happy other sylvari are. He's jealous that was stolen from him.
Does your character feel that they deserve to have what they want, whether it be material or abstract, or do they feel they must earn it first?
He's been trained into thinking some things are earned, and some are just given. Though he feels he is owed, given all that he's been through. He doesn't think about it often, but he thinks he's owed justice of some sort. Freedom. It hurts when other sylvari don't think about his situation.
