Supercorp Fic Trends
Tumblr media
I was inspired by the femslash stats to take a look at supercorp fics, and graphed the history of supercorp fics created per month for the past 4 years. It looks like supercorp used to average about 330 fics/month, and now averages around 130 fics/month.
There are some very clear peaks like:
The S6 mid-season finale (May 2021)
Supercorptober 🎃 (run by @kmsdraws) every year
Supercorp Big Bang ⚡ (@supercorpbb) is creating a spike now!!
There's definitely fewer new fics these days compared to years ago... but the show has been finished close to 2 years at this point, and we're still getting an average of 4 new fics a day? We're still running events and getting excited on twitter about the actors?? I think that's very cool!
(There are plenty of ways to crunch data and we can debate on what gives the "best" view, but this is the least error-prone way I could think of. The trend line is exponential as the rate of change seemed more meaningful than the change itself.)
Anyway, was mostly curious, both as a supercorp author and an incurable nerd. The fandom may be calming, but we're nowhere near done 💗

My last one... for now, of my book bindings.
This one is my collection of short stories I wrote for Supercorptober 2021. I painted the edges with metallic blue acrylic paint and for the first time, I made a bookmark

More than potstickers
by Women_makes_me_swoon
Kara and lena are about to have a lunch date in a nearby park/hill.
When lena arrived at the said meeting place the kryptonian feels giddy seeing two or her most favorite on earth.
Potstickers and Lena, more importantly that Lena is holding the said food.
What does she really love more than the two? Does nothing actually compare to potsticker when it comes to her heart?

ii. secret.
read on ao3
Lena Luthor dies a villain.
Her death took out half the population in the vicinity. A blinding white light piercing through the National City skyline. A deafening boom heard 5 cities over. An explosion so great, even Supergirl was knocked dead.
And so, Lena Luthor dies a villain.
Alone and young. And so, so bitter. An accomplice and ally to Lex Luthor.
Some would even say she was a greater, far more cunning, far more terrifying force than Lex.
There were rumors that the woman had magic at the end of it all. That no one person could be capable of that much destruction without the help of something inhuman.
But well, rumors were all it can be, especially when all possible witnesses perished along with the Luthors.
******
Weeks later, Andrea Rojas holds a memorial event for Lena Luthor; protesters burn the venue to the ground.
Months later, Supergirl returns to the world. More radiant than ever. More alive than ever. Stronger. Better.
Years later, National City recovers fully from the whole catastrophe.
Supergirl is reported to most frequently be seen in the memorial square for the fallen victims. A dozen paparazzi pictures of the caped heroine quietly walking, sometimes whispering under breath.
Praying, somebody on a CatCo article comments. She’s always praying whenever we see her there.
****** The closet doors burst open and out steps Alex Danvers.
A colorful stream of expletives coming right along with her, “Fuckin’ fur coats, goddamn hangers, fucking hitting me in the face—”
“Took you long enough,” a familiar voice greets her, “where the hell have you been? And why are you so...dirty? If you track mud on my carpet I swear to God, Alex—”
“I was cleaning your grave, okay?” she snaps, setting down a bucket filled with various cleaning supplies, that Lena’s just now noticing, on said carpet.
“Oh.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Alex huffs about, crossing her arms, “You don’t have to make a big deal about it. I don’t want to do it again, it’s a bitch for my back pain. I was just pissed about the graffiti. You’d think people would have better manners than defacing the grave of a dead woman. If only they—”
“Thank you, Alex,” she cuts her off, a shy smile gracing her face. She really doesn’t want to hear about the rest of it. And if Alex doesn’t want to make a big deal out of it, then no big deal shall be made.
“There’s coffee in the kitchen,” she says then, and Alex just nods, grabs her bucket of supplies again and turns to leave.
Although not before saying, “Remind me again why you let Kara win? With the portal?”
Lena just shrugs, dark hair escaping out of her messy bun at the movement.
“She said she’s always wanted to go to Narnia.”
Alex shakes her head, rolls her eyes, “Whipped.”
And well, that sounds about right.
******
There’s a documentary on Netflix about the Luthors. Lena’s face in black and white, on the preview banner, a big red X drawn over it.
Kara snaps the remote in half.
Lena reaches over the blanket, grabs her hand, flicks the TV off with only a swish of her fingers and a glitter of sparks.
“C’mere,” she says, tugging gently, till she has a lapful of Krytonian draped over her. Lena traces her fingers over the crinkle between Kara’s brow, smooths them out, thumb dragging across lips till it pulls to a soft smile.
“We know the truth,” she tells her, “and that’s enough.”
“It’s not fair.”
Nothing ever is.
******
“How’re the kids?” She asks, one hand whisking eggs, the other holding the bowl steady.
“Oh, you know, asking me a thousand silly questions a day. Driving Alex crazy. Never letting me sleep. They’re perfect, really,” Kelly says, and Lena hums in response. Before she catches Kelly popping a blueberry in her mouth, a crime punishable by Lena Luthor’s death stare.
“Those are for the muffins.” A foam covered whisk points dangerously to Kelly’s chest.
She raises both arms in surrender, palms opening, dropping the remaining three blueberries onto the counter.
“You know, I’ve seen you do it a thousand times, yet it still doesn’t fail to surprise me.”
Lena concludes she’s talking about the baking tray hovering in the air, a feet away from them, greasing itself. Or maybe it’s the soup at the stove with a ladle stirring itself.
“What can I say,” Lena quips, smirking, “I’m magical like that.”
******
Andrea finds her on a Tuesday.
One minute Lena is reading quietly on her front porch, the next, there is an explosion of sound in her living room. She throws open her door, magical energy sizzling at her fingertips.
The sight that greets her stops her in her tracks. Acrata pinning Supergirl down, their coffee table destroyed. She sighs internally, she loved that coffee table. It was a wedding gift from Nia and Brainy.
“I knew it,” Andrea whispers, her grip slackens around the hero's throat. She stands up slowly, as if afraid that if she moved too fast Lena would disappear. She leaves Supergirl gasping on the floor; materializes in front of Lena in a cloud of black smoke.
“I knew it. I knew it. I knew it.” She sobs into Lena’s blouse, arms wrapped tightly around her. Lena embraces her on instinct, her eyes closing briefly, before opening up again to check on Kara dusting herself off.
“Andrea,” Lena croaks, “you can’t tell anyone.”
You can’t tell anyone I’m alive. You can’t tell anyone how I tricked Lex, how I saved Supergirl, how I saved National City.
“Nobody will know,” Andrea promises her.
******
There is a cottage by the woods that nobody else sees, where every Sunday a blonde woman rips apart pieces of wood with her bare hands, where a pale woman with even paler hands grows crops from the barren earth within seconds, where the closet hides cities instead of clothes, where a dead woman and a hero spend their lives in bliss.
******
It has been ten years, her hair is more gray than blonde now, her skin more wrinkled than smooth, her hearing though? Her hearing is still better than ever. And it has been ten years since she’s heard that tell-tale whoosh of a cape, it’s been a decade and still, the sound brings her the same thrill, the same adrenaline.
“To what do I owe the pleasure, Supergirl? Or should I say, Superwoman, now?”
And oh-
She did not come alone.
Lena Luthor is set gently down on the balcony.
If Cat Grant wasn’t Cat Grant, she’s sure she would’ve already suffered a heart attack from the mere sight of a woman long dead standing breathing and alive in her home. She would’ve shrieked and demanded answers.
“I need a favor,” Kara tells her, stalking closer, hand on her hip. Cat would’ve laughed at that if this were some other time. No need to play the intimidating game with me, Kiera, she would’ve said.
“What is it?”
“I need you to break a story,” she tells her. “You, Cat. I want you, and nobody else to cover this.”
Cat raises her brow at that, she already has an inkling as to what the story might be about.
“A story hmm? This better be good, if I’m to come out of retirement for it.”
This time it’s Lena Luthor who speaks. Cat has been dying to hear what she has to say.
“It’ll be good," she promises her, "It’ll be better than good."
Kara crowds closer to Lena, then; wraps a protective arm on her waist. Cat watches frozen as Lena's index finger lights in flame. What a sight they make.
"You’ll be telling the entire world the last Luthor’s secret.”

2. Secret
Supercorptober 2021 - 1
Kara is horrible at keeping secrets anymore. It’s ironic - Lena realizes this all too well, having been kept from Kara’s biggest truth for more years than she’s been in the know… so far, at least. She plans on remedying that particular ratio, chooses to look towards the future rather than dwell on the past. In turn, they have each vowed to be nothing but honest with one another, no matter what.
But there are some… gray areas. Not lies, not even secrets, per say. You could call them quirks, little errors, at worst. Harmless. Things like...
Kara gets overly excited about sharing beloved Disney classics with her girlfriend, and spoils the endings of movies sometimes - only realizing her mistake a solid five minutes later, popcorn falling from an open mouth as her jaw hangs slack with horror.
Or fifteen minutes...
Or half an hour.
She gets there eventually, which is the most important part.
And maybe she isn’t great at keeping certain… events… under wraps. Like accidentally informing Nia of her Pulitzer ceremony before the poor girl even knew she’d won the honor. Or completely forgetting that the surprise baby shower being held next week for Alex and Kelly was, in fact… a surprise.
It’s not her fault. Not even a fault at all, if Lena is being completely honest. Sure, Kara isn’t a great secret-keeper anymore - but Lena would rather have all her surprises spoiled for the rest of her life than go back to what they’d been before. She never wants to be anything except this, the woman Kara tells everything to, the one who holds every dark thought and overwhelming fear, the one who keeps the girl of steel safe in the most breakable of arms.
Which is why Lena doesn’t understand why Kara has been acting strangely all week.
Kara never drops things. Her reflexes are too good, her coordination too agile for human error. And yet she’s broken at least four different coffee mugs and shattered a delicate (quite expensive) crystal wine glass right between clenched fingers. She’s taken to stuttering, stumbling over her words, as if the well-worded journalist in her had suddenly vacated from the entirety of her brainspace.
Most worrying of all, Kara won’t meet her eyes. For the last three days she’s directed all attention to the floor, hardly spoken to her at all, spent hours at a time patrolling the city and only crawling into bed long after the sun has set. Lena has been trying very hard not to pry, to be patient, and not to take this behavior personally - but it’s starting to wear on her nerves.
It feels too familiar, and Lena is terrified of what it all means. She’s been standing outside their apartment door for almost ten minutes, trying to muster up the courage to face the woman she loves more than life itself. Lena isn’t sure which is worse - walking into what turns out is the end, or the prolonging of her very terrifying, uncertain fears.
She opens the door.
And is met with the most beautiful of visions staring back at her.
Candles fill the space, a warm, soft glow that flickers intermittently across every wall. Dozens of flowers litter the apartment, their heady scent almost overwhelming. It takes half a second for Lena to recognize their shape and perfume: Plumerias. Her breath catches in her throat, eyes prick with realization, and then she watches Kara bend on one knee.
She’s the strongest woman on this planet, unbreakable, and yet Kara quivers like a newborn foal as she lifts her hand. A ring, sparkling in the candlelight, but nothing like the tears in Kara’s eyes.
“I wanted to do this at the Fortress. Next month, on our anniversary. It was going to be a secret. A surprise. I knew I would ruin it, give it away, and I just…” Kara exhales, shaky, “I couldn’t wait anymore. I didn’t want to. I just want to be with you, Lena.”
Lena rushes towards her, kneecaps colliding painfully with the tile floor. She doesn’t feel a thing. “Yes.” She whispers harshly, fervently, cups Kara’s cheeks in both hands. “Yes.”
“I haven’t asked you yet.” Kara laughs, tears spilling over into the grooves of Lena’s fingertips.
“Then hurry up and ask,” Lena says, her voice low and strained with a combination of pure love and utter joy. “Ask.”
“Marry me?”
Lena crashes into her, kisses the trail of tears away, buries her hands in thick blonde hair. “Yes. Yes.” She hardly feels the ring slip on her finger, hardly feels anything except Kara, Kara, Kara everywhere. Kara forever.
It’s her last secret. Of that, Lena is sure.

Supercorptober 2021 Day 31: Spookycorp
It's been a long month but here's the final prompt! My goal was to post a 1000 word fic a day and I'm so glad I did it. Thanks for all the support, all the likes and reblogs and asks, I really appreciate it, you all have kept me writing. Supercorp is endgame! Thanks again for reading :)
Fic link. Series link.
Kara pauses in the door of Lena’s bedroom, finds her girlfriend adjusting the witches hat on her head, trying to get it to sit perfectly. Lena hadn’t been entirely onboard with Kara’s suggestion for her to dress up like a witch for Halloween, but Kara thinks it’s probably the ease of the outfit that finally swayed Lena’s decision.
“How do I look?” Lena asks, giving Kara a small smile when she notices her watching.
“Very cute,” Kara grins, earning an eye roll from Lena as she steps into the room. “I’m serious,” Kara says, ducking her head to give Lena a quick peck on the lips, made slightly more difficult by the hat on Lena’s head but she manages.
“You’re the cutest witch I know,” Kara adds, admiring the slight blush now staining Lena’s cheeks. It makes her want to lean in and kiss her again, but she manages to resist.
Barely.
Kissing Lena has quickly become her favourite thing since she first kissed her best friend a month ago.
“I would say the same thing about you and your outfit but I think Barry wears it better.”
Kara gasps, hand to her chest, landing over the lightning bolt. “How could you say such a thing?” She’d thought Barry would get a kick out of her dressing up like him.
Lena’s serious face holds for a moment before it breaks and she’s smiling again, hand reaching out, finger smoothing over the crinkle between Kara’s eyebrows.
Okay, Kara can’t be too upset.
She catches Lena’s hand as it falls, tangles their fingers together. It’s something she hopes she’ll be able to do a lot more in the future, once they’re no longer hiding their relationship.
At the tower, it’s the hardest, because Lena’s always there and she always looks amazing and she always smells amazing and she smiles so softly at Kara, all dimpled cheeks and soft eyes and Kara has to resist every single time, has to stop herself from reaching out to touch Lena, to kiss her, has to keep her distance.
Not too much distance at least, everyone has become pretty accustomed to them being close now, ever since she returned from the Phantom Zone.
She won’t have to keep her distance much longer, after they tell everyone they’re together soon.
“Are you ready for today?” Kara asks, and the nervous drop of Lena’s eyes gives Kara her answer, Lena’s head tilting down so the brim of her hat covers her expression.
“Hey,” Kara says softly, a hand under Lena’s chin to bring them eye to eye again. “You know we don’t have to do this now, right? We can wait. I want you to be comfortable with telling everyone too.”
They’re kept their relationship a secret for the last month, ever since their first kiss, where Kara had made some joke when they were watching a movie about two best friends that fell in love. Kara can’t even remember the joke now, all she remembers is intense green eye turning to look at her after she’d said it, eyes that fell to Kara’s lips and then they were kissing.
And then they were doing a lot more than just kissing, Lena coming apart under Kara’s gentle touches and Kara doing the same under Lena’s as they showed each other just how much they loved each other.
Since then, they’re been keeping this new development to themselves, figuring out their new relationship without the watchful eyes of their friends. But Kara wants to tell everyone now, wants to be able to hold Lena’s hand in public, kiss her without worry and show the world just how much she loves Lena.
Last night when they talked, Lena had wanted that too, had wanted everyone to know, but if she’s not sure now, then they can wait.
“I want everyone to know.” Lena pauses. “I’m just nervous, what if they don’t approve? Or think it’s a bad idea that we’re dating?"
“I’m pretty sure everyone is just waiting for this day to happen, they all know it’s coming,” Kara says. They’ve talked about these things before. After their first night together, there had been worry from both of them because they didn’t want to ruin their friendship, but after more talking, and more kissing, they’d both decided that their happiness was worth the risk. “They all know how we feel about each other and they all just want us to be happy. And as for anyone thinking this is a bad idea.” Kara lifts their joined hands, presses a kiss to the back of Lena’s. “How could this ever be a bad idea when you make me feel this way?”
Lena lets out a sigh. “You’re right,” she smiles, and even if said smile is small, it’s there. “I’m sorry. I’m still not used to this, used to having people who love me like you and your family do.”
“Our family.” Kara corrects. “And you better get used to it, because that’s not going to change anytime soon.”
Lena’s smile widens, and Kara just has to kiss her again.
“We really can wait if you want to,” Kara says, reluctantly pulling away before they get too carried away. They do have a party to go to.
“No,” Lena shakes her head. “I’m ready, I want everyone to know too.”
---
Nearly everyone is at Alex and Kelly’s by the time they arrive. It looks like a Halloween store exploded across the apartment and Kara knows that’s because they’re trying to make the day as fun and special as they can for Esme.
Speaking of Esme, the little girl comes running across the apartment as soon as they step through the door, colliding with Kara’s legs, little arms wrapping around her.
Esme has become so much more confident over the last few weeks as she’s properly begun to settle in, started to realise that she’s here to stay.
“I dressed up as my favourite superhero,” Esme grins, and she’d been so focused on the little girl’s hug, that she only properly notices who she’s dressed as when Esme pulls away and looks up at her.
Kara clenches her jaw, she won’t cry. Even then, tears pool slightly in her eyes and she has to clear her throat so her voice doesn’t catch.
“You look great,” Kara grins, bending down to pick up the little girl. She has the House of El crest on her chest and a red cape waving behind her and Kara just loves her niece so much.
“Supergirl is also my favourite superhero too,” Lena tells Esme, bumping Kara’s side as she does.
Esme beams and Kara’s heart feels so full.
“Who are you?” Esme asks, eyes on Kara’s own costume. She’s left the helmet out of her costume, she’s not sure how Barry wears that all the time, but even then, she can’t blame the little girl for not knowing.
“I’m the Flash, he’s another superhero. He’s super fast, just like us. He thinks he’s faster than me but I’m definitely faster than him. He’s good friends with Supergirl too.”
Esme’s eyes go wide. “Can we have a race?”
Before Kara can answer, Alex and Kelly are there.
“No, you cannot,” Alex says, eyeing Kara like it was her idea.
“I think Esme’s costume is my favourite,” Kara counters with a smirk, lowering the girl back to the ground. Esme places her hands on her hips, chin held high, and Kara nearly melts then and there.
“It was her choice, she didn’t want to dress as Sentinel or Guardian,” Kelly says, who looks amused by her daughter’s costume choice. Alex is looking at Kara like this is her fault too.
“Kid has taste,” Kara grins, ruffling Esme’s hair.
A knock at the door behind them cuts the conversation short, which is probably a good thing, Alex looking ready to start a competition. Kara steps out of the way, slipping her hand into Lena’s to pull her aside too. Or that’s what she’ll say if asked, she mostly just wants to hold Lena’s hand.
Which is why she doesn’t let go when they step into the kitchen and place the bags of food, mostly candy, on the kitchen counter.
“I think Alex is jealous,” Kara laughs but Alex looks fine now as she greets J’onn at the door, J’onn admiring Esme’s costume too.
“Esme is pretty cute, but I think the real deal in even cuter.”
“Those are big words.” Her niece is adorable.
Lena smiles with a shrug. “It’s true.”
Kara doesn’t even try to fight the blush that spreads across her cheeks, there’s no stopping it. She does duck her head though, head dropping as she grins.
“See?” Lena says, nudging Kara’s side. “Cute.”
Kara looks up in time to see Alex making her way over to the kitchen too and Kara quickly drops Lena’s hand. They hadn’t really talked about how they’d tell their friends they’re together, just that they would, and Kara suddenly realises that’s a conversation they probably should’ve had already.
“There’s beer and wine in the fridge or if you want something else to drink, there’s punch on the table,” Alex says, looking slightly frazzled as she looks around the room, no longer having to hide her anxiety because Esme isn’t around.
“Relax,” Kara says quietly, catching her sister’s eye. “Look, Esme is having a great time, there’s no need to worry.” Esme is across the room now, sitting in Eliza’s lap, talking animatedly as Brainy and Nia listen too. She didn’t know that Eliza was coming, and it makes her a little bit more nervous about what they have to tell everyone, but she knows her mother approves of Lena, love Lena, too.
Alex smiles. “I know, I just want this to go perfectly.”
Kara knows the feeling.
“It will. Actually, Alex,” Kara says, stopping her sister as she turns to leave. “Can we talk to you for a second?”
Alex looks back at them, Kara turning to Lena to ask her a silent question before she says anything. She wants to tell her sister first, has been on the verge of telling her multiple times in the past month, the only thing stopping her being Lena’s reluctance and the fact that she’s been enjoying having Lena to herself.
Lena gives her a slight nod so Kara takes her hand again, tangles their fingers together. She lets Lena’s touch soothe the sudden nerves she’s feeling.
Alex doesn’t miss the movement, her eyes falling to their joined hands, a question in her eyes when she looks back up at Kara.
She doesn’t hesitate, or worry about how to phrase it, she just lets the words out, leaving no room for misinterpretation.
“Lena and I are dating.”
Rao, that feels good to say.
Alex’s eyes widen, flickering between the two of them. “Really?”
“Really,” Lena smiles. She looks calm but Kara can hear the way her heart is pounding in her chest.
“Aunt Lena, are you okay? Your heart is beating really fast,” a little voice asks from Alex’s side and Kara freezes, she hadn’t even realised the girl had moved from across the room. She’d also forgotten for a moment that she wasn’t the only one who has superhearing.
Esme’s words draw the attention of the rest of the room. This isn’t how Kara wanted everyone to find out.
“I’m okay, sweetie,” Lena smiles down at Esme, the little girl’s frown smoothing away with Lena’s words.
The words do nothing to eradicate the curious looks from everyone else in the room though.
Kara looks to Lena a little helplessly, unsure what to do under all the attention now.
But lucky for her, Lena takes the lead. “We were just telling Alex that we’re dating.”
Kara’s heart skips in her chest, the words feeling so good to hear from Lena too.
All around the room, confused looks turn to surprise.
“We’ve been dating for the last month,” Kara adds. “And we want you all to know too.”
“A month and you didn’t tell me?” Alex asks. She doesn’t look hurt, just surprised. “I didn’t know you were that good at keeping secrets.”
Kara is very good at keeping secrets, thank you very much. Not that she likes doing it, secrets have hurt them all. There are no more secrets between her and Lena, the last big one being that fact that Lena is the love of her life. But she’s kept her identity a secret from the entirety of National City for the past 6 years, so she thinks that’s pretty good.
“I’ll tell you everything later,” Kara promises her sister. “We just wanted some time to ourselves first.”
“Are you two being serious?” Nia asks, making her way across the apartment. “Don’t mess with me, I’ve been waiting for this moment for ages. It’s been obvious you two belong together for years, it was only a matter of time.” Nia throws her arms around them both. “I’m happy for you.”
Nia’s hug breaks everyone else’s surprise and then everyone is hugging them. Lena is blushing again under the attention and it’s cute.
After Eliza has hugged them both, with a big warm smile and a “welcome to the family,” Kara leans over and kisses Lena’s cheek. “I told you everyone knew this was coming.”
“Everyone probably knew before we did,” Lena laughs. Which is probably true, Kara hadn’t known about Lena’s feelings until the night they first kissed.
“And everyone definitely knows now, which means I can do this anytime,” Kara says, leaning over to kiss Lena, still wary of the hat on her head.
She can’t wait until later, when she can properly kiss Lena, when she can slip her hands under her shirt and hold her close and show her again how much she loves her.
“Gross, as happy as I am for you both, I really don’t want to see that.”
Kara breaks the kiss, has to fight the urge to linger in Lena’s space, and turns to look at her sister.
Alex is smiling at least, but her nose is turned up. It’s fair enough, she knows the feeling from whenever Alex and Kelly kiss around her. It’s cute but she also doesn’t need to see her sister like that.
“You’re going to have to get used to it,” Kara says anyway, mostly just to tease Alex. “Because I’m seeing a lot of kissing in our future.”
Lena blushes, dropping her head to bury in Kara’s shoulder. Alex’s disgusted reaction is worth it.
“Not around me,” Alex mumbles, leaving them alone without a look back.
“Kara,” Lena chides, but Kara’s not going to apologise.
“It’s true,” Kara grins. “I do see a lot of kissing in our future.”
A hand, warm and soft, wraps around Kara’s neck and tugs her forward for another quick kiss. “I can’t wait.”

Day 25: Sweater Fandom: Supergirl (TV 2015) Rating: Teen+ Summary: Before the reality of the situation set in, Lena came up with literally every possible solution she could to get Kara back from the Phantom Zone in those first 12 hours. Honestly? She was ready to traverse the whole of the barren wasteland herself if it meant having Kara back safely and in a reasonable amount of time. But, of course, it could never be that easy.
Or: Lena deals with Kara's absence by "borrowing" some things from her apartment. Kara finds them when she gets back.

To Lena: Lena????
To Lena: where are u??
To Lena: Answer my calls
To Lena: Pls?
Kara rounds the corner of her hallway, keys bitten, dangling from her lips, as she types with both hands. Her 67th text message of the day to an MIA Lena Luthor sent. She fails to notice the creature lurking around the front of her door; dark fur shining under the cheap LED lights of Kara’s corridor.
She’s still deeply absorbed in her phone with worry, in the middle of jamming her keys in with one hand, when something furry brushes against her legs and Kara yelps.
She pulls the knob clean out of the wood in shock, her phone dropping to the floor loudly, the cat doing a duet with her with a startled yowl of her own.
Heart hammering and adrenaline racing, Kara looks down and sees the cat for the first time.
“Oh! Oh!” she gasps, “I didn’t see you there, buddy. I’m sorry for startling you!! I didn’t mean it.”
The door knob clatters loudly to the ground as it falls out of her grasp. And Kara sheepishly feels guilty for the hole in her door. But the cat meows loudly, catching her attention, as if in response to her apology.
She crouches down low, and reaches out a hand to touch the furball. She snaps a quick pic, sends it to Lena and pockets her phone.
To Lena: KITTY!!
“Oh, oh come here,” she coos, “where’s your collar? How’d you get here huh?”
The cat reminds her of Streaky. The first stray who ever took to her kindly. Although upon closer inspection, Kara realizes this one has striking emeralds for eyes, Streaky’s eyes were a more softer blue.
The cat surprisingly seems friendly, immediately leaning into Kara’s touch. Nosing at the inside of Kara’s wrist and it’s such a familiar gesture but she can’t seem to remember why.
And...oh, a small rumbling echoes through Kara’s palm!
Oh, they’re purring!
Kara doesn’t know how long she stays there crouched low exactly, but eventually, she stands up, takes her hand away, and picks up the damaged doorknob.
“Well, time for you to go home now, buddy,” she tells them, giving their head one last pat before dusting off her hands on her jacket.
“Go on, shooo. Shoo. Go home. I’m sure your human is looking for you.”
But the cat remains unmoving. It looks like they’ve decided to sit firmly in front of Kara’s doorstep, casually licking a paw, as if waiting for Kara to open her door.
“Are you actually waiting for me to open my door?” Kara makes a mental note to thank Rao that none of her neighbors can see her trying to hold a proper conversation with a cat.
“Look, kitty,” she says firmly, “I’m not your human.”
The cat just blinks owlishly at her. Eyes too green, too intelligent and-
Kara makes up her mind.
She turns her face skywards, takes a deep breath (This will probably backfire, she already knows. But she's always had a soft spot for strays.) and then she pushes her door wide open.
The cat races inside, cutting through Kara’s legs and almost tripping her.
“Well, somebody’s excited,” Kara mutters under her breath, she watches the cat head for her living room couch; watches as they pause all of a sudden, changes course and jumps onto Kara’s coffee table instead.
Where the cat then proceeds to knock down everything in close vicinity, even the picture frame of her and Lena together.
“Hey! No! Bad kitty-”
But the cat is already hopping down from her pedestal, landing on the frame directly.
And then things get weird.
The cat proceeds to stomp all over it, meows loud, like really loud; insanely loud for a cat their size.
Her paw seems to be almost pointing? At the other person in the frame.
“I-” Kara seems taken aback by the bizarre behavior, sure she knows cats are vastly different from dogs, but this…
This is just weird.
The cat’s meowing only seems to get louder.
How you land yourselves in these situations, Kara. I really just don’t know, at this point. She can almost hear Alex say.
“What are you- Are you- are you pointing? That’s- That’s Lena, yeah. That’s my best friend.”
At that, the cat seems to vibrate. They start clawing at Kara’s pant leg, meowing and meowing and meowing—
And then it hits her.
"-but it turns out that she’s a witch. And apparently, so am I."
The green, green eyes.
A pink nose nuzzling against her wrist.
“Lena?”
******
“Oh, Rao! Lena you’re a cat! What happened?! Oh, no, baby what did you do?”
Lena-
Lena The Cat—and okay, so she’s still wrapping her head around that one—just stays silent. She’s sitting on her lap, looking regal than any cat has any right to be. A judgmental look in her eyes.
Lena’s a cat. Cat’s can’t speak. Can’t answer Kara’s questions.
“Right. Sorry. Only meow,” Kara murmurs, embarrassed. For some reason even in cat form Lena manages to be intimidating.
“Okay so, uh d-does that mean you still understand me? Two meows for yes. One meow for no.”
Kara gets two meows.
“Okay, cool, cool. Great. You can still understand me, that's good.” Kara runs a hand down her spine, “Gosh, your fur is just so soft.”
She hears Lena give a small growl, body tensing, “Right. Right. Sorry. Not the time for pets.” Kara retracts her hand away.
“Uhm, so next question then, I guess? D-did you become a cat this morning? Were you testing out your uhm...gift?”
Lena meows twice. Kara nods, clenching and unclenching her fist underneath her chin. Fingers itching to run themselves through Lena’s soft fur again. Lena seems to sense this, and nuzzles her face into Kara’s hand, bumps against her repeatedly.
“Really?” Kara double-checks, giddy. If she were human Kara bets Lena would be rolling her eyes like she always does when Kara does something particularly dorky, but she just pushes her head firmer against Kara’s hand and meows twice.
“So uhm,” she starts, cautiously, noting Lena’s increasing purr, “is there like a spellbook for this or something? Something that can help you transform back?
Lena meows yes.
“Is it in The Tower or back at your place?”
There are no responses.
“Sorry, sorry lemme rephrase, is it in The Tower?”
She gets two consecutive meows.
Okay, to The Tower it is.
******
“Are you going to tell me why you’re cradling a cat in your cape or??” Alex raises a brow at her, a hand on her hip, left foot tapping impatiently. Her sister was heading out for the day, it looks like. It was just tough luck that Supergirl landed one minute before the elevator took Alex.
Crap. Now they have to explain. They didn’t talk about this. Lena still hasn’t told her if it was okay to tell people about her gift.
“I-I rescued it,” Kara says.
Well, that isn’t so far from the truth, right? She stares at the bundle in her arms, Lena the traitor staying silent all the while—green eyes shining all innocent at Kara.
Alex’s stares intensifies.
“From a tree,” Kara flounders, and Lena The Cat has the audacity to yawn, squirm and jump away from her arms. She lands gracefully, tail swishing up in the air and heads straight for the lab.
Alex eyes the cat suspiciously before turning back to Kara. She jabs a finger to her chest. “It better not have any fleas. It better not touch my training mat.”
“She won’t.”
Alex just shakes her head, rolls her eyes, grabs her helmet and walks to the elevator.
Before she goes though, Alex says, “You know, this is gonna sound weird, but I swear I think I saw that same cat slinking out of The Tower earlier this morning.”
“Alex, she’s literally a black cat. There are hundreds of black cats in the city.”
“You're being weirdly defensive about this. Why are you being weird?”
“I’m not.”
Alex seems like she wants to say more, but the elevator dings, and she’s never been more grateful that Kelly makes Alex pick her up from work. Alex huffs out breath, before conceding and disappearing into the lift.
******
The camera flash is what gets Kara busted.
But is it really her fault if she walked in on a cute kitty, hunched over, meowing adorably, trying to flip over the pages of a thick spellbook, with her teeny-tiny bean paws?
Lena hisses at her, teeth-bared and fur puffy.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry. But you were just really, really, really cute okay?” She walks closer to the desk, carefully lifts a hand and scratches Lena behind the ear.
The hissing slowly devolves into purring, and Kara grins triumphantly. Lena lets herself be picked up after a few moments, Kara leafing through the pages for her.
“So, found anything yet?” She asks, cradling Lena close to her chest. A warm weight on Kara’s arms, and as much as she wants to get her real Lena back, she also isn’t too eager on giving up this version anytime soon. Then again, Kara thinks, it would be impossible for her to give up any version of Lena Luthor.
“Spell? Charm? Anything? Do you need to make a potion? Are we gonna get to make a potion? Oh, oh do you need a wand? Do you have a wa-”
Kara’s words get muffled as two black paws press against her lips. Lena’s green eyes narrowing at her. She meows at Kara. Loudly.
“Mkay, mkay. Shut up. Got it.”
Lena removes her paws, and Kara makes a gesture of zipping her lips together. This seems to appease Lena enough because the next second, a pink tongue darts out and she...licks Kara's nose.
“Did you- did you just lick me?” Kara gasps out.
Lena doesn’t even acknowledge her with a meow, just turns away and jumps out of her arms again. Before Kara can do anything about it though, her phone rings.
The screen lighting up with Andrea’s name.
“Danvers, I’ve got a story for you.”
******
“Alex, please, I’ll be quick. I promise. I’ll only be three hours at the most. Please just look after her,” she pleads, pouting and puppy eyes in full power.
It also helps that the cat burrito in her cape looks to be cooperating. Lena The Cat staring at Alex with wide round eyes.
Apparently, some governor was found dead downtown, and now Andrea wants her on the scene. She can’t just leave Lena all alone in The Tower. No matter how hard Lena’s been protesting, this is brand new territory for both of them. Nobody knows the extent of Lena’s powers.
Point is, Kara would feel a lot better if she were to leave Lena under the care of someone she trusts. Even if said someone, accuses Lena of being a stray with fleas. It's still better than leaving Lena all on her own.
“Ugh.” Alex groans and Kara knows she’s won. “If this cat causes trouble I will throw it out the window, Kara.”
“No!” Kara yells, distressed. “Don’t do that. She’ll behave. She promises.”
She puts her hand under Lena’s arms and raises her up to eye level—Simba style. “You promise to be good for Alex, don’t you?”
All she gets is a lot of squirming and screaming, there were also a lot of attempts at scratching Kara’s nose.
“See?” Kara says, chuckling nervously. “She’s telling you she’s good.”
Alex looks skeptical, her arms crossed against her chest.
Kara sets her down on the couch, and crouches down low.
She tries to pet her head, but Lena bites at her finger, she catches her teeth on the skin of her supersuit’s thumb slot. She bites deeper, her teeth accomplishing nothing but a few dents.
And oh, Rao she thinks she’s such a feral little cat but her pink adorable gummy snarl says otherwise.
“I’m sorry, I’ll be back. I promise,” she whispers, careful not to let Alex hear. “And then we’ll figure it out later, okay? The safest place for you right now is to be with Alex.”
She really doesn’t want to go, and based on Lena’s protests she doesn’t want Kara to go either. But well, Andrea had finally threatened to fire her if she disobeyed...which is...fair.
She’s aware she’s been doing a less than stellar job at being a journalist lately. Rao, what an understatement. This is basically her make it or break it.
“Look, I’ll be quick, promise. Be good to Alex,” Kara murmurs. She presses a kiss on Lena’s furry forehead. Lena finally unclenches her jaw and lets Kara go. The little whine she lets out, letting Kara know that she knows the battle’s lost.
“Both of you, be good,” Kara tells them sternly. “Alex, please don’t yeet my cat out of the window.”
Alex shrugs, staring at the cat with suspicion. “I make no promises.’
Lena is staring at Alex just as hostile. Great. They both deserve each other.
Kara sighs exasperatedly. Well, at least she tried.
******
She gets a very angry Alex Danvers on the line, right after she’s finished talking to some sources. It’s nighttime now, and when she checks her watch—yep, she’s left Lena in Alex’s care for more than six hours.
Crap.
“Hey, Al—”
“KARA IF YOU DON’T PICK UP THIS THIS THIS GODDAMNED HAIRBALL RIGHT NOW, YOU WILL NEVER SEE IT EVER AGAIN.”
There is loud meowing, and then, “What the- Get off! Get off me right no-”
The line clicks dead.
Kara Danvers quickly changes into an alley, manages to break the sound barrier.
******
It’s Kelly who opens the door.
“Hey, Kara,” she greets her. Kara is impatiently rocking on her heels, trying to peer past Kelly’s shoulders.
The place was quiet; ridiculously quiet, and Kara feels fear swoop in her belly.
“Please, tell me my cat is still alive,” Kara bursts out, Kelly just gives her a pained smile and oh, no, oh no.
She muscles her way past Kelly to a brooding Alex on the couch.
Lena is nowhere to be seen.
“Alex, Alex where’s my cat? Where is she? Where did you put her?”
Alex finally looks up at her, Kara taking notice of the red marks on her arm.
Oh no, Lena, what did you do?
“Calm down, I didn’t throw the little demon away. She’s-" Alex sing-songs before finishing, "on time-out.”
“Time-out?” Kara asks, voice shaking. Rao, does she really want to know.
Alex takes too long to answer, taking a swig of her beer first before pointing to a corner in the living room.
And there, she spots it.
It, being a small pile of laundry on the floor, next to an upside down hamper. A big white hamper housing one Lena Luthor. There's a crude cardboard sign stuck on it; "Kitty Jail". Alex has also stacked a few encyclopedia on top of it, no doubt an attempt to keep Lena from escaping.
“Oh! Oh, Lena!”
Kara superspeeds her way and scoops Lena up, the cat meowing immediately and curling into Kara’s chest.
“You named the cat after Lena?!”
Crap.
Kara turns around slowly, “Uhm yeah?”
Alex just shakes her head. “Unbelievable.”
“Her eyes reminded me of Lena, okay?!” Kara yells defensively, pressing tiny kisses onto Lena’s fur.
“I’m sorry that Alex has been such a meanie to you," she coos, "I know you didn’t deserve it, baby."
Alex seems to perk up at that, because she raises up from the couch. “That,” Alex jabs a finger in their direction, Kara cradles Lena protectively, “That baby ruined my couch and she so totally deserves all the mean! All the mean in the world, Kara!”
Lena hisses in her arms.
“No, no. That’s not true. Lena is baby and she’s perfect and you’re just a meanie.”
“She ruined my upholstery! She left hair all over the place and that’s not even to mention the scratching!”
“Because you were mean to her!”
Alex scoffs, eyes bulging wide in disbelief.
“Get out,” Alex says, her brows pinching comically, “Get out of my apartment before that little devil causes more damage.”
“Gladly,” Kara says, and Lena meows her assent. They make their way past Alex, Kara unaware that Lena has stuck out her little tongue at Alex over her shoulder.
“And she’s not a little devil!” Kara calls out.
Alex slams the door in her face.
******
That evening, Kara pores over a thick spellbook, eyes swimming with Latin symbols with a purring machine on her lap.
By midnight, Kara has managed to pass out on her couch, a black cat curled on her chest.
The spellbook lay open on her coffee table, forgotten.
******
The first sight that greets Kara when she wakes up are green eyes.
Green human eyes.
And then it hits her.
“Lena!”
The spell had blessedly wore off by morning, and Kara’s never been more glad to see the sunlight lighting up Lena’s face.
For a moment, Kara’s assaulted with the mental image of laying in a pool of sunlight with a black cat stretching leisurely next to her.
“Good morning,” Lena purrs, and oh Rao, that sound is much, much better than her meowing.
“You’re back!” Kara gasps in awe.
“I’m back,” she whispers, she’s still draped fully over Kara on the couch. A blanket covering them both.
“Rao, I missed you.” A palm comes up to cup her cheeks, Lena automatically nuzzling into the inside of her wrist.
“Mm, I missed me, too,” Lena tells her, face breaking into a small smile. Kara traces her fingers up and down Lena’s spine. Oh, how she’s missed touching Lena’s skin.
Wait-
Skin.
Is she-
“Lena,” Kara begins, swallowing. Her nerves not going unnoticed.
Lena raises a brow at her. “Kara?”
“Are you- uhm- ah. Are you naked right now?”
Lena’s eyes light up like a cat’s and Kara knows she’s in trouble.
“Mm. It seems that I am,” Lena says, and all Kara can do is gulp.
“What are you gonna do about it?”
special shoutout to @mike-wachowski, @sexybread-png and @thebreakfastgod for their cat expertise without whom this silly little fic would not be written.

4. Couch
Supercorptober 2021 - 1//2//3
"Are you sure you're alright?"
Kara lets out a rush of air, somewhat exasperated by the question Lena has repeatedly asked no less than three times in the last half hour, but she does so with a small smile to show she isn’t irritated at the concern. On the contrary - Kara is thankful for it.
“I’m fine,” She hands Lena her used plate when the brunette gestures towards it, taking the remains of their dessert to the kitchen sink to be disposed of. Not that Kara has left anything but a few sparse crumbs behind, anyway.
Lena sits back down, tucks her legs underneath in a move that is so familiar it almost hurts a little in the center of Kara’s chest. It’s been so long since they’ve done this. She’d often wondered, this last year, if they would ever be able to be this comfortable around each other again, after everything that’s happened. She thought it would be harder, or at least awkward at the start, but… it’s not. It feels like… like coming home. Finally.
Lena fiddles with her hands, bites at a corner of her lip, distracted. “I mean, are you sure you’re alright about… about me? About all of this?” She waves with a circular motion in the air, gesturing to all of herself.
Right. The witch thing.
Kara reaches forward, places a hand on the couch in the empty space between them. “Hey, we don’t have to talk about it if you’re not ready. Really.”
Lena nods her head. “I know, and thank you for that, but I just… I need to know if this is going to…” She trails off, and Kara is alarmed to see her large green eyes rapidly filling with sudden tears.
“Lena?” Kara tentatively touches one of Lena’s hands with the pads of her fingertips, barely making contact, but it’s enough to send a shiver down her spine and it’s not… unpleasant. Not even a little bit. Not at all.
Lena takes a shaky breath. “Is this going to ruin us?” She whispers, and Kara’s eyes widen at the unexpected question.
“What? No! No, Lena, why would you - of course it won’t! Why would you think that?”
Lena clears her throat, tries to smile through her tears, and her chin quivers from the effort. “Because it’s magic, Kara. One of the very few things you’re vulnerable to. And I have the power to control it. At least, there’s a possibility that I could. Doesn’t that scare you?”
Lena blinks, rounded teardrops roll down ivory skin, and Kara doesn’t think - she instinctively reaches out and catches them with her thumb, wipes them away and lets the rest of her hand rest on the curvature of Lena’s cheek.
“Lena, listen to me. I trust you. I’ve always trusted you, even when my actions said otherwise. Yes, magic makes me weak - but, Lena, you…” Kara suddenly feels like she’s floating out of her body, like she’s looking down on the both of them from another plane of existence. She doesn’t even know where these words are coming from, but they feel right.
“You make me strong.”
There’s a soft intake of breath, and Kara isn’t sure if it came from Lena or from her own traitorous body. There’s a slight pressure as Lena leans into Kara’s touch, closes her eyes and breathes deeply, and something stirs in the pit of Kara’s belly at the sight.
Oh.
This is… new?
But it’s not. This has happened before. It's happened a lot, actually. It’s been this way forever. And where this realization might have caused Kara immediate distress had it concerned anyone else, instead, it makes her feel… whole.
Because it’s not anyone else. It’s Lena.
Lena opens her eyes again, lidded and beautiful and... Kara crashes back into her own body from on high with the force of a meteor, every nerve ending feels like it’s on fire. Does Lena feel this too? Has she been completely oblivious this whole time?
The apartment door slams open, and the two of them jump in unison. Kara almost flies straight into the ceiling, her heart jackhammering in her chest. Alex has bags of carry-out in her arms, and shuts the door with one thickly-booted foot as she walks to the counter, depositing her spoils.
Kara doesn’t even hear Alex talking, hardly hears anything, because Lena - startled, beautifully breathless Lena, is staring at Kara like she’s never seen her before. Like she’s been just as taken aback by the last two minutes. And then Lena smiles, ducks her head, and stands up to help Alex unload the takeout containers, leaving Kara helpless to do anything except sit there like a dumbstruck idiot.
But also...
She thinks maybe this is the kind of magic she could get used to.
