And i liked the portrayal of the emotions of surrender and relief even if I have mine issues

george streamed solo with a New Game and not that too long ago from his last stream i could barely believe it T^T i am refraining from keeping my hopes up for a more regular stream schedule tho cuz every time i do that he ends up not streaming again the rest of the month . So

my enjoyment of chat is almost entirely dependent on the streamer’s relationship with it like ik george’s chat is objectively . not the best on its own. but gnf interacts w it like he thinks chat is the most adorable thing ever and always wants chat to be happy and it’s like ?? he loves his chat and TBH.. it’s so nice to watch so i find myself liking his chat too (knows this is a very unpopular opinion and says it anyway)

the amount of gnf + aplomb fanart makes my heart soar pokemon has a permanent place in my heart and 404 artists are so talented!! im more active on privtwt n i’ve been rting every aplomb fanart i see (this is my fav LOOK AT IT) gnf in a mudkip onesie n aplomb nuzzling him w her cheek......... Hey there!! I just read all of Unguarded, and I loved it! You are a fantastic storyteller, and add a lot of depth and nuance to Freeza, who's by far my favorite DBZ character. I have a question for you, as a gay man what originally drew me to Freeza was his effeminate mannerisms and looks, and while it came from queer coding that is very common in villains, I found it very cool to see such an iconic character seem so unashamedly gay. I was wondering what your opinion on Freezas sexuality is?

Hello! Thank you for the kind words. It always makes me smile when someone tells me they’re enjoying the story. It continues to update twice per week on ladytygrycomics.com and three times per week on the patreon; there is plenty more story to come!

I can count on one. . . finger the amount of cold questions I’ve gotten over the last year so I will try my best to make this count. 😊

Please forgive me my verbose tendencies but I feel like a simplistic response isn’t the way to go here.

One of the paradoxical blessings and curses of Toriyama’s writing is that he doesn’t overthink decisions like these (if he considers them at all). Like you said, Freeza is interpreted as heavily queer-coded, at least by many Western fans—typified even more if they are fans of the Funi dub. I tack on that clarification because I’ve heard it argued that Japanese audiences read his mannerisms differently and I don’t have the background to comment one way or another on that.

In addition to not addressing these types of questions, not that I blame him given the tone and genre of his story, Toriyama is inconsistent with the decisions he does make. Similarly, the responses he gives in interviews have to be taken with a grain of salt. It is hard to read them as anything other than Toriyama shooting from the hip since they almost never see fruition in the actual story.

I mention this because it really gives fans the freedom to interpret these characters however they want. When fans have a blank slate, they sometimes project their own preferences onto the characters and they start to look for clues throughout the series that reinforce those interpretations.

Now, the reason I brought all of THAT up is because I feel the need to differentiate between my interpretation, what I actually write, and what the showrunners are likely to do if they ever had to commit to a decision.

I’ll start with the canonical show. For reasons of practicality, I imagine the character is intended to be asexual. Toriyama developed a tendency to trot out female characters when [Saiyan] offspring were needed only to toss them to the wayside once the addition is done.

We saw asexual procreation with Piccolo and Cell. The current showrunners seem to struggle with writing female characters in general and based on how they handled (or didn’t, rather) the Kale x Caulifla relationship, I don’t see them changing up the formula any time soon. DBS is trying to step outside old tendencies in that regard but it’s baby steps.

Growing up, Friends was the most popular TV show with my peers. I personally preferred Frasier. By the time I was in middle school, this was likely one of the key reasons why I was familiar, and comfortable, with metrosexual men.

My personal experiences growing up involved a lot of frustration in people misinterpreting my sexuality solely because I had interests and hobbies that were traditionally masculine. I also preferred t-shirts and jeans (still do) over traditionally feminine clothing. While I no longer harbor insecurity about that sort of thing, this, coupled with the metrosexuality oozing throughout Frasier, was likely a big reason why I didn’t see Freeza’s mannerisms or appearance as an indication of his sexuality.

Stepping back from any intentional implications from Toriyama, I presently view the character as either asexual (if his species is revealed to procreate that way canonically) or pansexual. Freeza is very much his own being and if he has an interest in someone, I feel like someone’s gender isn’t going to stop him.

I suppose the next logical question would be related to how Freeza’s sexuality is presented in Unguarded. In case anyone who is curious happens upon this response and feels this is important in deciding whether to read my fan comic, the sexual experiences I have planned for him are those of convenient proximity and utility. I’m not above raunchy fanservice (it’s actually one of my favorite things to draw) but the inner working of Freeza’s sexuality is not something I plan to make a major focus.

Still, even if it oversimplifies everything to answer this way, I feel I should give a straightforward reply: his sexual encounters in Unguarded are depicted as heterosexual.

Tl;dr He’s an alien. He could be anything. 😊

You know what gang? After today's Horimiya Dub, I am throwing in ANOTHER potential VA for Katsuya Honda: Johnny Yong Bosch

Okay, hear me out.

He just played Akane Yanagi in Horimiya. Caitlin and Shaun, the ADR Directors for the series, said that they deliberately kept his casting as a surprise for the rest of the cast. Since the Horimiya Dub is made up of mostly Black, Asian and Hispanic actors who have been rising up over the past 5 years; it was a big moment for a lot of them to find out that they'd now all shared screen time with such a big industry name.

But, all Yanagi really does is show up and be a Super Hot Guy who Yuki turns down because she's secretly in love with Tooru. He doesn't say or do an awful lot.

Why go to the trouble of casting a Big Name for just that then? It'll probably cost a lot of money to book the session, and it's not like you're casting a big name to pull in audiences. You're just doing it as a treat for your cast! If he were a regular voice at Funi, then fine. We hear Coleen Clinkenbeard and Chris Sabat as wala all the time in other shows. But I don't think JYB hasn't been in Funi production since Free ?

HOWEVER! If they already had JYB booked in for a session for Fruits Basket and then had him do the Horimiya Part afterwards? That would make more sense! Recording multiple shows in one session was pa for the course long before COVID hit town.

Caitlin has also said on Instigram that she is actively casting people who have been in the industry for a long time so that the Dub has a classic feel to it. Which is why I like that she went the opposite route with Horimiya, but I digress.

JYB is a very talented actor, but a lot of his roles tend towards "Soft Spoken And Charming" which is exactly what you want with Katsuya! It would also add a little bit of racial diversity to the cast, which would be nice. Since so far I think Micha is the only Non-white person in anything akin to a main character? And he's voicing Naohito.

I still think that it's weird that Tatum hasn't even done wala on the show, since he's also been in the industry forever; and I stand by Katsuya being a combination of the dad in Wolf Children and the Teacher in Hitorijime My Hero: meaning that David Metrenga would be a VERY good shout for him.

But... I don't know!!! It might just be that they thought he'd be good for the part in Horimiya, and he was available so why not? But y'all -- What if? W H A T I F ????

I had de BEST dream about tfatws

so I was deaming about Marvel releasing The Falcon and the Winter Soldier´s spots and one from WandaVision, but anyway the one from TFATWS was full of action and get me even more hyped and in the las few seconds (ya now after the title when usually goes a funy or shooking scene) was Sam in the right side of his bed and woke up quickly and was like disoriented but happy and then gave a little kick to the other´s bed side and ask “are you okay?” and... oh yes bb apears Bucky amoung the sheets with the most WTF dreamy face and the spot finished there and I was like “yeah you mf thats my freaking Captain, now you can say its about being politically correct but they DID IT”! THEY GAVE US SAMBUCKY, AND ITS JUST A TRAILER!! i was all screams tears and jumps it was so damn beautiful

but the best part its that my brain just reboot ifself and woke up at some point that i didn´t even noticed and started looking everywhere about ppl reacts and ready to scream on everyone feces but I start panicking when found nothing about it and keep looking till my braincells start functioning again and i realise it was a dream

it took me a moment to process all this shit and then saw the WandaVision spot noification that actually was released and almost thought it was the one from TFATWS in my dream 😭 I'm done with this year

So, now that my finals are officially over, I am going to proceed to have a drink or two or three and rewatch Eclipse. Here’s (soberly) what I remembered from the film prior to starting this account (since starting this account, posts re:Eclipse have reminded me of things I’m not going to include in this introduction):

1. Bella is basically playing tic-tac-toe with Edward and Jacob and her feelings for them. She can’t make up her mind. When I watched it the first time, my dad was in the living room half paying attention to it and said she was very selfish.

2. Edward tries to control Bella, but it’s “out of genuine concern for her”.

3. Jacob tries to control Bella, but it’s “out of genuine concern for her”.

4. Both fight for her affection and even though she’s engaged to Edward, she won’t let go of Jacob.

5. When the newborn army shows up, Bella cuts her arm with a rock.

6. There’s awkward tension in the tent.

That’s literally all I remember of the movie while sober (aside from what I have relearned from posts about Eclipse on this blog). My drunken thoughts will be below the break:
