Defense of the Inquisitorial Beachhead
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
More news from Bahara's Hive:
The Heralds of the Chalice have sent forth a strike force comprised of the heads of their Reclusium to recover an Inquisition relic with ties to their Primarch. Lead by Juriel Archados, the recapturing of one of Sanguinius's pinions has been a successful, however the Inquisitorial beachhead established earlier remains in tact dispite the hard hitting assault.
The Sisters of Our Martyred Lady have begrudgingly accepted the assistance of the T'au sept Kisun'sha'ea which has previously pledged allegiance to the agents of the Golden Throne, as envoys of yet another attempt at establishing democratic relations. The Tau have so far proven their immense value to the Inquisitorial leadership by securing many key victories.
Additional, the rather small contingent of Sororitas requisitioned by the Inquisition have proven to be an irreplaceable asset, proving their abilities to strike against the enemies of the Inquisition as a vanguard of faith.

Space Wolves are funny. See, my GF is named Aurora ("Awoorora") and nicknamed Boof (derrived from "wolf"/"woof"), her wardrobe is like 70% wolf t-shirts, she sleeps in wolf pillow covers and has a tiny wolf pillow in her car, put up a Loona Helluva Boss poster on her wall, wears a leather bracelet with a wolf pawprint metal plate and a silver wolf necklace, likes power/melodic death metal (it's not her favourite but the list does include Powerwolf), has a wolf fursona, adopted at least two shelter dogs in her life, her favourite Zelda game is Twilight Princess (50/50 split between Wolf Link and Midna), she mains Voruna (wolf lady) in Warframe and one of her favourite movies is 2004's "Van Helsing" featuring Hugh Jackman transformed into a giant hairy werewolf - and she's very lukewarm on SWs because "eeeh, they aren't wolf enough" and she doesn't vibe with their lore and role in most storylines. There aren't enough wolf head helmets, and the Wulfen aren't werewolf-ish enough (and to be fair to her they do look like bargain bin Wolverine cosplayers). She actually prefers World Eaters, Night Lords and White Scars as far as Space Marines go and is overall more interested in collecting T'au.
Not even Canis Wolfborn riding a Thunderwolf can pull her in.

if you ever wanted to make Tau soraka as a irl miniature, Pipermakes does some great custom 3d printed tau minis on patreon
What a nice idea but I am way too broke for that - all this is for years down the line when I finally finish my academic work AND get a job that pays more than minimum (not a given, humanities are fun yay).
But once I finally have this stupid PHD and a job that actually pays money, I'm gonna commission so much Soraka-stuff. For now, I have to be content with the little bits of T'au-Raka comms I can squeeze into my budget. Like this one by @rowscara:
Tumblr media
(Our goat lady is tall, a bit taller than humans and especially T'au)
To be fair the potential flood of Soraka content I could possibly unleash with proper funding is one of the few things that keeps me somewhat sane during deadline hell (I still need 30 pages until the end of the month <_<')

Sanguinius comes by for a visit. 'Hope I'm not intruding! But I was in the neighbourhood and I couldn't pass up an opportunity to meet your family.' (@lady-sanguinius)
Guilliman looks up from his paperwork. "Oh, greetings sister, how have you been?" He asks as P'oh the T'au brings in more reports.

Summary The date is M41 0.999.245.7 and the Gilded World Aureum of the Dovar system has just defeated a traitorous rebellion organized by the treacherous T'au Empire. With Por’O’D’iste, the organizer and plotter of the rebellion safely in custody; Lord Governor Quinctilius Publius Varus and Lady Adriana Deza de Torquemada of the Order Famulous celebrate their victory. However, can they trust their ally from the Farsight Enclaves, Shas'O'Vi'xitomata?
youtube
“Aureum the Glory of the Empire!” i.e. the Hohenfriedberger Marsch
The blue sky thundered with the roar of Thunderbolts fighters and columns of black smoke rose from all across the city, as the open-topped limousine carrying Lord Governor Quinctilius Publius Varus sped towards the palace. The PDF troops that lined either side of the white stone pavement shouted their “huzzahs”, dipped their regimental standards, and tossed their shakos into the air as his car passed. A regimental band played the anthem, “Aureum Gloria Imperii!”, or in Low Gothic, “Aureum the Glory of the Empire!” As they rode past the troops Varus smiled at the corpses of traitors and heretics that hung from the palace ground’s ancient statuary. ‘What tasteful displays!’ he shouted to his aide-de-camp. ‘They’re quite the decorative arrangements don’t you think Van Bibber?’

T'au dissections and reverse-engineering have led them to believe that Dreadnoughts are female gue'ron'sha and the dead Marines within are actually unformed infants. As such, of course, their diplomats or captured T'au always respectfully address Dreadnoughts as 'honored lady' or the T'au equivalent of 'madame'. Bjorn was VERY confused.
T’au Diplomat: You are most welcome within our sept, esteemed madam.
Bjorn: BLAST IT ALL I’M NOT A-
T’au Diplomat: We have prepared you a gift basket of fragrant oils and baked goods.
Bjorn: ...Please, call me Lady Bjorn. Madam Bjorn was my mother.

Old ideas and abandoned concepts
So, I figured it would be interesting to take a look at some earlier concepts I had for my characters and how they changed!
Lacedrace originally had issues with controlling her spells, and while she was still powerful, her powers backfired more often than not.
Sanya originally was supposed to be a cowardly conscript from Cadia, an idea that was soon changed into unlucky guardsmen accidentally summoning an unlucky daemon. By reading ingredient list on his ration.
Techpriest Billy was originally a part of the regiment Sanya belonged to, while his toaster was more of a running gag about angry AI.
Alpharius' original plot line revolved around him wanting to be an Ultramarine. Yes, Roboute's poster included.
Abaddon was originally more of an antagonist to the party, compared to... Whatever he is to them now, thanks to Sanya.
Filit and Lady haven't changed this much, to be fair; just got the lore of their alliance expanded upon to include a Halo Device!
In her first draft, Oona's backstory involved Exodites, and had slightly more of this "fey changeling" ideas, but eventually the concept was changed.
Around the same time, Oona's one and only meeting with Big E had her planet being bombarded into Compliance and subsequent situation of Oona trying to go for E's kneecaps.
In some of the concepts for the overall story there was a Fuzz related to certainly-not-a-warp-deity Big E, this Fuzz most likely representing compassion or something along the lines. Her gimmick was supposed to be summoning, because, you know, children's card games.
Some of the ideas I am still considering include leaving the ending for Sanya open following his injuries during the operation "Erebus is going down". Good end being him surviving against all odds; bad being him passing, and questionably worse (or is it?) where either Lacedrace or someone else from his acquaintances calls upon gods or other related beings to say their "not today, lol".
Hitchhiking t'au in the crew was almost made ethereal and following this fire caste, but then I figured that water caste diplomat forced by circumstances to pilot a battlesuit sounds more interesting.
Somewhere between the "Billy's toaster as a running gag" and the current iteration of c'toaster he briefly served as a power source for the ship crew is using.

What do the Fuzzes think of the Xenos of the Galaxy?
Hey, a great question and help me introduce more lore! So, thank you!
So, going down the list about main folks and putting it under read-more, since it is going to be lengthy:
Tyranids - they find them kinda concerning. Their ability to project Shadow is certainly something they are worried about, as well as the perspective of all other life in the galaxy being devoured and them and everyone else in the Warp substituting on bug emotions or dying off even, if this is something they can even do.
On a positive note, they for various reasons find their adaptability and resilience to be the most fascinating! Balthrag the Great Unclean One can be likely singled out as the "Tyranids Fan" corner.
In Sanya's ridiculous crew there is a Carnifex, actually. Psychically bound to Filit, suspicious Eldar lady, acts like a very chitinous cat, called Lady.
Orks - they always remember, that their chance of being dropkicked by Gork and Mork (or maybe Mork and Gork), while chilling in Warp is low, but never zero. They for the most part don't mind them just doing their funky orky things.
An'Hangra the Bloodthirster is an outlier, who absolutely adores them. They also drive Lacedrace the Lord of Change a bit mad, because she can't wrap her mind around how anything about their tech or psychic powers even works.
Among many friends of Sanya, there are two ork kommandos, who came around to loot and stab but stayed for fun space travels and Sanya's cooking.
Necron - on one hand, they are old sleepy and cranky robot fellas. On the other hand, they kinda steamrolled Star Gods and can mess with warp, so, yeah, there is absolutely something to be concerned about.
The preference is for the dynasties to play among themselves or maybe go and deal with Tyranids. The notable exception is Trazyn, who is the Fuzzverse is this meme videogame trader that has everything and also appears in the most oddly convenient locations to make some business deals.
There are no Necrons in Sanya's crew, but there is a particularly eldritch toaster with the shard of Void Dragon inside. It is being kept and used to provide their ship with a power source by Billy the Techpriest.
Craftworld Aeldari and Drukhari - their common opinion is that aeldari do get into their daemon businesses a bit more than they would prefer. And Drukhari is... an odd bunch, sitting in their Camorragh. Ultimately they, however, find them also one of those realspace folks they have an easier time interacting with, in comparison to say, Tyranids.
Not surprisingly Shanakay the Keeper of Secrets is the one who is the most interested about eldar of both their subcultures, aeldari and drukhari to be just so very entertaining and fascinating. Admirable dedication to perfecting their skills, rich culture, nourishing souls, 10/10 would recommend.
There is an Eldar woman in Sanya's crew, named Filit. Has a companion in the... face? Of a somehow bonded Carnifex. Odd from all angles and gives off very odd vibes. Ultimately friendly and helpful crewmate, even if an odd one.
T'au - they are kinda alright? I mean, there is a problem with their psychic ineptitude, due to which every attempt to interact with them feels like trying to have a business meeting over Zoom, with your internet working from potato and your interlocutor answering from their smart-fridge. But they are kinda alright. Especially without Ethereals around.
Lacedrace the Lord of Change finds them very nourishing on the side of providing her with meager, but high-quality hopes and aspirations floating around.
And yes, there is a t'au in the Sanya's crew, because obviously there will be one. Pilots battlesuit, which constantly ends up in repair and has some many parts replaced there are likely no originals left. Not actually a soldier, but a clerk. Has very bad eyesight and is terrible at shooting, but can and will go into melee, screaming in horror and apologizing for sending enemies flying with punches.

You know what kinda shows off how much people just buy into the concept of finding Xenos pointless? Third party models and bits. Seven trillion sites of Marine and Guard knockoffs, about 20 Orkz, maybe 3 with Eldar, and pretty much one for Tau (most of which is just anime tiddy ladies with vaguely T'au-ish heads)
Yeah, you’re right. I mean there isn’t really any other way to say it: People just don’t really like or care about the Xenos in substantial numbers as well.
Of course it’s, as always, self-fulfilling since Xenos get so little content compared to the Imperium that it’d be hard for them to attract even similar attention. You’ve got one faction who has about 90% of all explored Lore and Models on one side against a collection of factions with a barely a fraction of that content, particularly on the Lore front.
That being said I’ll admit 8th feels like it has made things worse on this front. I have been playing since 3rd Edition and it definitively feels to me like the last six years have shoved Xenos aside in favour of the Imperium even moreso then it always did.
Personally I don’t think this is because Xenos are getting less attention, not compared to what they always got, I just think that the amount of attention the Imperium, and to a much lesser extent Chaos, gets has trebled of late and as a result, in comparative terms, it feels as if the Xenos are just dwindling into ever more irrelevance.
I mean it’s probably understandable, the Horus Heresy series definitely revitalized interest and brought in a lot of new fans, and if you read and listen to most Horus Heresy fans the fact is that they honestly don’t care about any Xenos presence in the story, as long as their are Power Armour, and for some other humans, that’s all 40k is, Xenos aren’t a part of the setting for them really, at best window dressing for some Space Marine’s backstory about how awesomely he beat the so-and-so Xenos with contemptous ease.
I predict things are only going to head that way more as we see 8th basically turning 40k into Horus Heresy 2.0 by returning all interest and attention solely to Primarchs and devolving the narrative into nothing but a continuation of Primarch-centric stories.
Sadly, for me, it just seems that the majority of fans honestly don’t want Orks, Aeldari, Tyranid, T’au or Necron to ever be more than footnotes about how easily the Space Marines crushed them.
