The story focuses on Kei Yonagi, a high school girl who strives to become an actress. She lives with her two younger siblings, after their father left them and their mother died. Kei has an extreme talent for method acting, to the point where she loses track of reality while acting. At an audition, some speculate that acting of this intensity could be self-destructive, and cite that as a reason for not accepting her.
However, Kei catches the eye of the highly acclaimed director Sumiji Kuroyama, who steps forward with the intent of bringing out her full potential.

according to NHK, Hidekazu Tanaka, a former MONACA member who worked on soundtracks like Aikatsu, Wake Up, Girls, and Idolm@ster, was arrested for indecent exposure
as an acquaintance on twitter put it, this is probably the biggest otaku-related arrest since Tatsuya Matsuki, the author of Act-Age, was arrested for similar crimes

Akane Banashi - Ch.21
Thoughts on the latest Chapter 21. Source: mangaplus.shueisha website.
Tumblr media
It’s been a while! Also side note, decided to comment on episodes I like to comment instead of making it regular weekly thing. Due to time and other interesting things going on right now :p
Anyway, let’s go!
Tumblr media
People like this always exist huh? Just because they are specialized in one thing, doesn’t mean they will be useless in other things or don’t have any other abilities. Don’t underestimate anyone!
Tumblr media
These panels make me worry for Akane. However if I’m not mistaken, in the finals the contestants will choose the same story from before, so Akane should’ve known this for a while--that Ms. Koragi brings the same story as her father. Maybe that’s why she also doesn’t look that shocked at this point in time.
Tumblr media
Given that she’s a voice actress, being able to convey emotions using voice is already a guarantee for special performance indeed.
Tumblr media
I like her for this. Like Akane, she also wants to prove something by doing rakugo (of her worth, perhaps), and she learns hard. Hard effort must be paid off right? Hm....
Tumblr media
Not sure on what is in this old man mind though.
Guessing from the last comment for Karashi, I think he’d give her some kind of appreciation as well. But this rakugo story is special, and Akane is no doubt curious as well. Can’t wait to see his response on the next issue!

[a small note]
Tumblr media
When I checked the comments for this chapter, I saw some pointing this out and speculates that this is reference for “Act-Age” by Tatsuya Matsuki. Curious, I searched and found that the mangaka was arrested for indecent acts on teenage girl(s).
Don’t know why Takamasa & Yuki-sensei put this in, but hopefully it doesn’t mean they support the perpetrator. Maybe like... “it’s a shame that he did that, otherwise it would be a good one” type of thing haha. Or, “acting also has its risks, why bother adding it with Rakugo” for Ms. Koragi. I didn’t read the manga and now it’s all cancelled so I’m unsure if there are more related things inside it.

Shueisha has announced that Act-Age has officially been cancelled due to the arrest of writer Tatsuya Matsuki. The final chapter will be published in Weekly Shonen Jump 2020 issue #36/37.
Matsuki Tatsuya, the writer of Act-Age was arrested on August 8, 2020.
The editorial department takes this situation very seriously, and after confirming the matter and discussing it with Shiro Usazaki Sensei, the artist for the series, we have come to the conclusion that it is impossible to continue with its serialization. The chapter that is in combined issue 36/37 of Weekly Shonen Jump will be the final chapter.
It is extremely unfortunate to have to end a series that has received so much support from so many readers in this way. However, this decision was made because of the nature of the incident, and because Weekly Shonen Jump recognizes the weight of its social responsibility.
We offer our deepest regrets and apologies to our readers. This is a difficult time for Usazaki Sensei, but the editorial department offers Usazaki Sensei our support and encouragement for future works.
Information about graphic novel volumes and related publications and events will be announced as they are decided.

Act-Age
OKay, let’s get one thing out of the way as soon as possible:
The writer of the manga Act-Age, Tatsuya Matsuki, has been arrested for sexual crimes against teenage girls.
THE ARTIST of Act-Age, Shiro Usazaki (who was 19 when she was originally approached to do the art for the series) had NOTHING to do with that and, apparently, she had a pretty hostile relationship with Matsuki.
Do NOT confuse the writer and the artist and do NOT assume she had anything to do with that.
As of right now, we do NOT know if the series will continue or not. and if it does continue, if Usazaki will take over as the writer as well. But if it DOES continue, please inform yourself who is the writer now first before doing anything else.
If the series is cancelled and a new series begins with the same artist, REMEMBER THE ARTIST AND THE WRITER WERE TWO DIFFERENT PERSONS.
UPDATE August 10th 2020: Act-Age has been officially cancelled.

With the news of Act Age being cancelled and Tatsuya Matsuki hopefully facing deserved punishment for what he did, I hope his victims get the help they need and wish the best for them.
For a moment I thought about deleting all my Act Age stuff from my blog, but in hopes of Shiro Usazaki being able to continue her amazing art without Matsuki’s vile acts keeping her from any future opportunities I want to keep them up. I hope in few years I’ll be able compare her future art to AA.

I was gonna read act-age after I finished oyasumi punpun but... this? this is unacceptable.
I feel so fucking bad for those 2 middle school girls. They were just minding their business...
Also, I wonder what's going to happen to Shiro Usazaku. Shes probably the youngest artist in Shounen Jump.
Man... I am disgusted.

Court Hands Suspended Sentence to Mangaka Tatsuya Matsuki
Court Hands Suspended Sentence to Mangaka Tatsuya Matsuki #ActAge #Manga #KyodoTsushin #Tokyo #Japan #TokyoDistrictCourt
There has been an update in the ongoing Tatsuya Matsuki Case, on Nov. 24th, the Defense was asking for a suspended sentence and arguing that he has been punished enough by society such as the cancellation of the Act-Age Manga Series. Now, according to the Kyōdō Tsūshin, the Tokyo District Court has handed Matsuki a guilty verdict and sentenced to one year and six months in prison, but the…

Act Age artist Shiro Usazaki comments on the arrest of manga writer Tatsuya Matsuki and the manga's cancellation .
On August 8th, Matsuki Tatsuya, the creator and writer of the manga I drew for, “Act-Age”, was arrested and is currently detained for the sexual harassment of middle school girls.
First, I’d like to extend my sympathy and concern for the victims and their families. I believe it took enormous courage to not stay silent and come forward despite the incredible shock, fear and trauma this must have caused them.
The Justice system has not yet put forward a decision, but the fact that victims came forward, creating an inquiry that led to the arrest and detainment, must be taken seriously.
I have accepted all the measures that the Jump Editorial Board has taken with respect to the cancellation of the serialization of “Act-Age”, as well as its volumes and associated merchandise.
The wounds form sexual harassment are not things that heal naturally. In the future, when the victims pass a person with a similar appearance, they will tense up and hurry along. They will fear walking outside at night. They will suffer stress and fear that should have had no place in their lives.
Considering how the victims seeing “Act-Age” again may trigger their trauma and in turn cause further pain, I believe that stopping publication is the appropriate decision.
Furthermore, I have a request for all the fans who loved our work. I thank you all for the support you’ve shown “Act-Age” so far. I also find it very unfortunate that the journey has to be cut short like this.
However, fans absolutely should not turn their cries of disappointment towards the victims.
This should be obvious, but the victims are not to blame for the end of the publication. The victims that cried for justice, who did not just accept the pain of sexual harassment and try to forget it, are in the right. This is the result of them not shying away from doing the right thing.
They acted with courage, and I believe it unacceptable to cause them further harm by making light of, disparaging, or shaming them.
I understand the feelings of the fans who were saved by manga, who were living for this work. I have also had my life saved by manga. My emotions are overwhelming. However, do not ever use this love and turn it into violence. Please, think things over, see other’s points of view, and avoid being deceived by baseless emotions when choosing what you should say or should not say.
Finally, I wish for the victims to receive the appropriate care, that they may live in peace and that they may never encounter a traumatic experience like this ever again.
