Do you guys think the Relics plan would have in any way worked if they’d landed on an unpopulated world that cycle? I mean, if the crew is mostly immune to the thrall and there’s no other beings to satisfy the whole ‘craveability’ thing (which was specifically the reason they had to release the Relics into the world to begin with, rather than keeping them a secret or whatever)....

Not to be in my Taz Balance feels but..

Sometimes Taako, before Accident during his show, would totally zone out while cooking and ends up preparing the table for seven people, but he doesn't remember why,,,, sometimes he'd encounter a new animal or a beautiful plant and muse about how they would have loved this,, but who were they??

Sometimes Merle would get bored and start shuffling a deck of cards, only to split it and realizing that no one was coming to play, and what were even the rules for this game? (bc he and davenport would come up with new games, with wild rules just to fuck around with the rest of the crew) Merle once bought a beautiful pastel blue journal bc he thought that she (she? Which she?) would appreciate the craftsmanship,, he got really confused while wrapping it into a godawful wrapping paper,, who was he gonna give this? (later the journal would find its way to Lucretia, not without a crude joke about plants, a badly drawn dog and a motivational quote, she sobbed when she saw it, but only after sending the three to their next mission)

Magnus always carved ducks, he didn't know why or how he learned he just knew how to. Sometimes he would finish a particularly good duck and smile, then he'd stand up, Intending to give it to... To whom? Nobody really wanted the ducks, except for kids usually. Sometimes he would wonder the forest, looking for some good wood, when he'd suddenly think, I need to go back I was supposed to stay on the.. On the what? No wait that doesn't make sense, he's not supposed to be anywhere and no one is gonna be annoyed bc he forgot he it was his turn to wait... To wait for what though? sometimes he read a book and called out for an explanation but the man? Person? Didn't answer and Mangus who did you call out for? You're alone (months, years later he'd pick up a book from his friends Taakos collection and get an explanation,, but the feeling of rightness but not quite, expecting someone warmer and someone more patient to explain it to him,, it didn't help when Taakos first instinct was to say "don't ask me idiot do I look like a nerd ask,.." and then he stopped only to shake his head bc who else could Magnus ask if he was the only wizard here)

The trio doesn't know why or how but finally, when they met, finally someone understood that the days were somehow not hot enough, that they were always just a bit too chilly

while I’m musing on what-ifs in balance, what if they had enacted Lucretia’s plan on a barren world? It seems like the relics plan necessarily requires a populated world to function, and needs to happen when they can find the Light immediately. Lucretia’s plan on the other hand doesn’t need a population to work and also possibly doesn’t need to happen on such a strict time limit. If the seven birds shut themselves off from the rest of the cosmos and live out the rest of their days alone on a dying world with the Light of Creation, does the Hunger win? Or have they stopped it forever?

What music I think each of the Seven Birds would listen to

My credentials: none, but I have 200+ Spotify playlists

Merle: obviously, Kenny Chesney, but DEFINITELY The Mountain Goats, plus Kate Bush and The Beach Boys

Magnus: also The Mountain Goats. Maybe early Ed Sheeran? I know he's the impulsive one but I feel like most of his music taste by the end would be leaning more acoustic- definitely a rock guy at the beginning of his life though.

Taako: admittedly the hardest for me to pin down. Taylor Swift and Elton John? Artists that are kind of extra but still have a lot going on under the surface. Maybe hyperpop/electro in his unhinged moments, but mostly sticks to those two and adjacent music.

Lucretia: classical/instrumental, or podcasts when she's not writing. Mostly she's too busy to listen to much other than background music. I think she would like Phoebe Bridgers in her sad moments though.

Davenport: Sea Shanties. Folk music. Jimmy Buffett. You know the drill.

Lup: Probably music too cool for me to know. Various kinds of punk, but also Lorde, indie rock. Against Me!, Gully Boys, and Paramore.

Barry: Weezer.

Seven Birds:

they literally spent a hundred years becoming a family and lucretia tried her best to protect the but they could only save the world after all of them had been reunited and they LOVE each other they deserve to win this whole thing

Boys from the Dwarf:

Listen. These guys actually canonically have nobody else, the entire rest of the crew of this spaceship died in a nuclear incident which TECHNICALLY was Rimmer's fault. Forced family. Lister is the last human alive, Rimmer is technically a ghost kept alive by technology, Kryten is a robot and Cat is a cat. They live on this massive spaceship yet still choose to spend all their time together, it has been like 30 years at this point. I cannot stress to you how they had the option to leave and go elsewhere in this ship the size of a city at any given time yet chose to stick together after 30 years. Every opportunity any of them has had to get off this godforsaken ship, they have turned down. They would do anything for eachother but also would leave eachother on a random planet without hesitation (and actually have done). They are best buddies, they even have a handsign/handshake.

They’re an unlikely crew but ultimately they’re all each other has. Dave wakes up from stasis as the last human alive and to keep him sane the ship’s computer brought his dead bunk mate back as a hologram. They don’t usually get along but after being all each other has they ultimately need each other and do care about each other. They’re just hard assess about it. Also on board is a humanoid being called The Cat, who is from a species that evolved from a cat that was smuggled on board the ship before the accident that killed the crew. He’s usually self-centred but even after finding his own species again he ultimately decides his home is with the boys from the dwarf. And then there’s Kryten, a service mechanoid with an over-active guilt chip that they rescued from a crashed ship along the way. They’re dysfunctional and complete opposites to each other in many ways, but they are always together in every parallel universe they come across. And even when they do separate to try to do their own thing, ultimately they always come back to each other. They’ll act like they all dislike each other at times, but ultimately if trouble threatens one of them then the rest will band together. Also their dynamic together is just extremely funny.
