I grew up across the south. Fed by tejano grandmothers, crawfish boils, friday night luau, a million different ways to feed people.
I was raised to show affection with food. I work in a grocery store.
If I am worried about you, I feed you. If I am proud of you, I feed you. Big pots of nourishing soup and comfort food for funerals. Finger foods and cakes for new babies.
"I'm hungry" means "Care for me"
And "Are you hungry?" means "I care about you"
There is nothing more human to me, then working so hard to gather sustenance, and then to give it to another.

The worst part about living in the unit closest to the road is that sometimes someone’ll drive by with their music so loud I can hear it crystal clear and I literally just had to listen to 5 seconds of unwarranted Taylor Swift

Dreaming Of You
Bucky x Reader one shot
Summary: Bucky’s on a mission and Y/n really misses him.
Author’s note: This is my entry for @thedevilwearsvibranium‘s ‘Phases of Love’ song challenge!!! She’s wonderful and so kind for giving me an extension! I asked for Selena’s Dreaming of You. And I couldn’t pass up using the Queen of Tejano music as my inspo!!
*flashbacks are in italics* *lyrics are in bold*
Warnings: none, fluff, no smut just implied?
Y/n stared at the ceiling and huffed in annoyance. Today marked the seventeenth day that she had woken up without Bucky next to her. She hugged his pillow and took a deep breath, but the pillow had long lost his sent. She flung the stupid pillow across the room.
“Fuck!” Y/n groaned as she got out of bed to start her day.
Mornings were rough, but mornings without Bucky were the worst. Morning coffee didn’t taste the same when she made it. There was something special about the way a perfectly brewed cup appeared on the nightstand on her side of the bed. And there was something divine about the way Bucky would snuggle close to her and wake her up with the gentlest of kisses.
Y/n smiled forlornly at the subpar cup of coffee in her hands. After pouring the rest down the drain, she left the kitchen to get ready for work.
Ah, work. At least she’d be busy today. Pepper had back to back meetings with foreign investors for the launch of a new Stark product. As Executive Assistant, Y/n was required to sit in all the meetings. Y/n wasn’t just a good assistant, she was incredibly business savvy, which made her stand out when she had applied for the job a few years back.
Y/n really did love her job. It was through her work that she had met Bucky. Pepper needed an assistant to oversee ensure the company kept running smoothly while she handled PR emergencies for the Avengers. One afternoon, Pepper was running late from a lunch date with Tony, so Y/n stepped in to run PR.
“Hello everyone! My name is Y/n L/n and I’m Pepper’s assistant. I know she usually handles these things, but she’s running late so you’re stuck with me” Y/n smiled brightly. “As I’m sure you know, there’s a press conference tonight. You are all expected to be there. Behind me, I have several outfits coordinated for each of you. Pepper has a certain aesthetic in mind for tonight”.
“Great. Another suit. I fucking hate suits.” Y/n heard someone mumble.
“Suits are too formal for this occasion. They’ll make you seem like you’re self-absorbed or like you’re trying too hard. Jeans are too casual. People will say you don’t care enough. That’s why each piece has been curated specifically for each of you. Any other concerns?” Y/n looked around the room. Nobody answered.
The team had picked up they’re outfits on the rack behind Y/n except for one person.
“Mr. Barnes, I believe these are yours.” Y/n handed him the last bag hanging on the rack.
“Oh-- um, thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”
“Hey- um. I’m sorry for the suit comment earlier. It was rude and I know you’re just trying to do your job.” Bucky fiddled with the hanger of his garment bag.
“Apology accepted Mr. Barnes.” Y/n smiled at him.
“Bucky. Um please. Call me Bucky.” He was stumbling over his words. “My friends call me Bucky.”
“Well Bucky, I hope these pieces are more comfortable than a suit. And if they’re not, at least you only have to wear it for a few hours. Formal wear isn’t fun to be in all day, trust me.” Y/n started to pack up her things.
“You sound like you’re speaking from experience.” Bucky teased.
“Oh don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love playing dress up in a dress and heels.” Y/n giggled as she showcased her outfit. “But, I love being barefoot and wearing just a t-shirt and jeans.”
“I bet you look just as pretty.” Bucky chewed on his lower lip trying to hide the growing smile on his face.
“Y/n. Yoohoo. Earth to Y/n!” Pepper waved her hand in front of Y/n’s face.
“Sorry Pep! I’ve been in such a funk today.” Y/n blushed furiously.
“You miss him?” A knowing smirk appeared on Pepper’s face.
Y/n nodded hiding her face in her hands. “Yeah. Can you tell? Oh my god, is that pathetic?”
“Not at all. It just means you’re in love. But I need lovesick Y/n to let badass business bitch Y/n take the lead for the rest of today’s meetings. Can you do that?” Pepper chuckled.
“Yes. Sorry. I’m good. Let’s do this thing!” Y/n took a deep breath, smoothed down her skirt, and walked behind Pepper into their next investors meeting.
--------------------
It was 5:00 when Y/n’s day finally finished. She packed her things and headed home. A day full of meetings would have tired anyone, but Y/n’s doubled efforts due to missing Bucky had rendered her exhausted.
“Friday, can you stop at the team’s floor?” Y/n leaned her head against the elevator wall and closed her eyes.
“Of course Ms. L/n.”
Once the elevator doors opened, Y/n slowly made her way for Bucky’s old room.
“Hi Y/n!” Sam greeted. “Haven’t seen you here for a while. What’s up?”
“Hey Sam. I know, it’s been a while! I’ll stay in the tower this weekend so we can go out for brunch. I miss you guys.” Y/n yawned. “I’m gonna go lie down in Bucky’s room for a bit. I’m so exhausted, I will seriously hurt myself if I try to drive home right now.”
“You wouldn’t have had to drive home if you just agreed to move in with Bucky!” He teased.
“Yeah and then you’d be complaining about being able to hear all the mind blowing sex Bucky and I have.” She teased right back.
“Ugh! You’re gross! Go take a nap. You get perv-y when you’re tired.” Sam covered his ears with his hands. Y/n laughed and walked to Bucky’s room.
Sam was right though. Life would be a lot easier for Y/n if she had just agreed to move in with him. But she had said no. She said she needed clear and separate work/home spaces. Bucky agreed, so he moved out of the tower and into her apartment. He promised he’d make their home a place where all the worries of work could be left on the doorstep.
However, as Y/n fell face first into the soft bed with sheets that lingered with the smell of Bucky, she knew that home was wherever he was. She fluffled the pillows under her head and kicked her heels off.
“Friday, can you play my “Missing Bucky” playlist on Spotify?”
The AI began to play the songs queued on the playlist. The music quickly lulled her to sleep.
When she woke up, the sky was dark and the music was still playing. Y/n got up and grabbed a glass of water. She went back to the bedroom to lay down again. She figured she’d just spend the night, wake up early to go home and change clothes, and come into the office after lunch and stay late.
Y/n smiled as a familiar tune began to flow through the speaker system. She closed her eyes and passionately sang along to the late Selena’s Dreaming of You.
Late at night when all the world is sleeping
I stay up and think of you
And I wish on a star
That somewhere you are thinking of me too
Y/n wondered in Bucky missed her as much as she missed him. Bucky faithfully kept his promise to contact her whenever he had the chance, but he hadn’t called in a few days and Y/n missed everything about him including his voice.
‘Cause I’m dreaming of you tonight
Til tomorrow, I’ll be loving you tight
And there’s nowhere in the world I’d rather be
Than here in my room dreaming about you and me
She sang into her fist like it was a microphone as she thought about their ‘official’ first date. Sure, they had hung out together often, but it was always in a group setting and Bucky insisted it didn’t count. Although, Y/n insisted otherwise.
Bucky picked her up from her apartment at 6 pm sharp. He had actually arrived fifteen minutes early  because he was so nervous.
“Hi doll.” Bucky greeted, handing Y/n flowers and kissing her cheek.
“Hey handsome! Ready?” She smiled brightly at him.
He nodded. “The place isn’t too far. WOuld you like to walk or should we drive over?”
“It’s a beautiful night. Let’s walk!” She held her hand out and bucky laced his fingers with hers.
The two walked together to a nearby upscale restaurant. Bucky held the door open for Y/n and led her through the restaurant towards the kitchen.
“Bucky! This is the kitchen! We can’t be back here!” She stopped in her tracks before stepping into the bustling kitchen.
“Sam said he ‘hooked it up’ for us. I don’t know what that means, but he said we just have to walk through the kitchen.”
“And you never considered that it might be a trick? Or a prank?” Her eyes went wide.
“Um, no?” Bucky frowned at his lack of foresight. Sam would be just the kind of person to embarrass him on his first date with Y/n.
“Mr. Barnes?” A young man in a waiter’s uniform approached them. Bucky nodded. “If you’d please follow me through the kitchen for your seating arrangements.”
Bucky and Y/n followed the waiter warily as he navigated them through the giant professional kitchen. He opened a door that led outside.  The view left Y/n speechless.
“Wow.” Bucky was certainly impressed. He was relieved that Sam had decided not to play any tricks on him. Sam really did ‘hook it up’. Bucky really needed to thank Sam for being a great wingman and setting up an incredible first date.
Bucky and Y/n walked through the restaurants garden. They could smell the various fresh herbs as they walked past.
The waiter ushered them to a small gazebo decorated with glowing fairy lights. In the middle of the gazebo, sat a single table for two. A bottle of champagne was sitting on ice next to a basket of warm bread.
“Your server for the night will be with you shortly. Enjoy your night.” The waiter smiled and dismissed himself.
The night had been perfect. Y/n smiled at the memory and continued to sing.
Late at night when all the world is sleeping
I stay up and think of you
And I can’t believe
That you came up to me and said I love you
“I love you too.” A deep voice sang from the foot of the bed.
Y/n’s eyes shot open and she jumped out of bed.
“Baby?” She was stunned to see Bucky in front of her. He had a few bruises and scrapes along his jaw, but otherwise he looked ok.
“Oh God, I’ve missed you!” He closed the distance between them and kissed her hard. He pulled away and gently rested his forehead against hers. His eyes were still closed as he tried to savor the bliss of having Y/n in his arms again.
“I missed you too. Did you just get back?” Y/n’s fingers played with the hair at the base of Bucky’s neck.
“Mmhmm. ‘Bout an hour ago. I saw Sam on the way in and he said you were asleep, so I went down to the gym and used the locker room showers. I didn’t want to wake you.” Bucky placed kisses along her throat.
“So sweet and thoughtful.” She teased with a breathy moan. “Let’s go home so we can sleep. I have work tomorrow, but we’ll order take out and relax when I get off.”
“Nope. Sorry. There’s no way in hell I’m letting you go to work tomorrow! I just got you doll. I’m not letting you go!”  Bucky kissed her again and pulled her down onto the mattress with him. His lips traveled all over her.
“Bucky! I have to work tomorrow! Come on, let’s just go home!” Y/n giggled as she tried to push off the soldier.
“No can do doll. If we leave this room, I won’t stay awake. And I need to be awake with you right now.” He stopped kissing her for a second. “Friday, text Pepper and tell her that Y/n won’t be in the office for the next three days. And tell her that I owe her one. Oh! And send one of those winky face emojis.”
Y/n rolled her eyes and pulled him in for another kiss as he settled himself between her thighs.
They had seventeen days of being apart to make up for. Three days wasn’t going to be enough!

In Defense of Small Towns
by Oliver de la Paz
When I look at it, it’s simple, really. I hated life there. September, once filled with animal deaths and toughened hay. And the smells of fall were boiled-down beets and potatoes or the farmhands’ breeches smeared with oil and diesel as they rode into town, dusty and pissed. The radio station split time between metal and Tejano, and the only action
happened on Friday nights where the high school football team gave everyone a chance at forgiveness. The town left no room for novelty or change. The sheriff knew everyone’s son and despite that, we’d cruise up and down the avenues, switching between brake and gearshift. We’d fight and spit chew into Big Gulp cups and have our hearts broken nightly. In that town I learned
to fire a shotgun at nine and wring a chicken’s neck with one hand by twirling the bird and whipping it straight like a towel. But I loved the place once. Everything was blonde and cracked and the irrigation ditches stretched to the end of the earth. You could ride on a bicycle and see clearly the outline of every leaf or catch on the streets each word of a neighbor’s argument. Nothing could happen there and if I willed it, the place would have me slipping over its rocks into the river with the sugar plant’s steam or signing papers at a storefront army desk, buttoned up with medallions and a crew cut, eyeing the next recruits. If I’ve learned anything, it’s that I could be anywhere, staring at a hunk of asphalt or listening to the clap of billiard balls against each other in a bar and hear my name. Indifference now? Some. I shook loose, but that isn’t the whole story. The fact is I’m still in love. And when I wake up, I watch my son yawn, and my mind turns his upswept hair into cornstalks at the edge of a field. Stillness is an acre, and his body idles, deep like heavy machinery. I want to take him back there, to the small town of my youth and hold the book of wildflowers open for him, and look. I want him to know the colors of horses, to run with a cattail in his hand and watch as its seeds fly weightless as though nothing mattered, as though the little things we tell ourselves about our pasts stay there, rising slightly and just out of reach.

BART CHAT 1/8/19
Hi all Sorry this is a day late, I have been working on a unique film project this week that has been so wonderful but has taken all my time and energy, I will tell you all about this great project in another episode of Bart Chat. I want to talk to you about the Best of Fests starting this Thursday night where we have 22 film festivals in the North Texas area showing a program each. It will be amazing and wonderful but first I have to give you some bad news. The great cultural critic of the Dallas Morning news Chris Vognar was laid off yesterday. As we in the DFW area know Chris is a great writer, with a deep understanding about film, His insights are enlightening and thoughtful.  He taught for us at UT Arlington and did a great job. He is a mench and a friend, but on a larger level this is a sad day for the arts in our fair city, just as our film festivals get together and show us how much of a film city we are the Dallas Morning has exactly NO film critics, none. There was a time where there were 3, but those were different days. Look film (and television) are the art-forms that more people experience than any other.  In the plethora of award show is there anything that tops the Oscars? Films define our culture, they show us the best sides of us (Won’t You Be my Neighbor) and show us our worst fears, (any horror film)  Film critics help us with the consumer choices but also put these art works into perspective, help us think about what we are about to see and have seen.  To nurture art/film culture you need makers, exhibitors and critics each fueling each other. With Vognar’s departure we are losing that third legs, and this cannot be held up by freelancers from time to time. Back in the day when there was competition, having good arts converge was important. In my opinion, when since  morning news bought out the Dallas Times Herald, they have had a moral responsibility to serve the city, and this is one of the ways I think they can and should serve the city. The DMN is not the only institution that has not supported cinema coverage in a profound way, The Dallas Museum of Art is one of the few major city museums that does NOT have a full time film curator. Back to the Best of Fest When I thought about what we would show, I knew I had to show something from a Dallas Filmmaker and something that made a strong political point, so I went with The Big Buy, a doc about how Tom Delay used gerrymandering to change congress. While this was bad at the time it has paved the way for where we are now. This will be on Sunday night 6 pm at the Cinépolis (Victory Park, Dallas). Directors Mark Birnbaum and Jim Schermbeck will be there for a Q&A and we will have a panel discussion afterwards, we are also showing Mosca a short by Lizette Barrera.  Three stars cinema is showing The Last Laugh that we co presented a few years ago about comedy and the Holocaust. Back to Bad News This week we lost one our greatest filmmakers. Ken Harrison. Ken is probably most well knows for his version of Horton Foote's plays 1918 and on Valentine’s Day.  He also made some great shorts and documentaries including Jackalope that we showed in Frame of Mind and at the VideoFest.  Ken also directed some of the best episodes of the TV show Wishbone. He will be missed. Back to Best of Fests The opening night film Tejano will be at the Texas Theatre on Thursday, at 7 on Friday come meet us all at a red carpet at the Alamo in the Cedars at 5:30. I also recommend Bur Circle from Waco’s Chris Hanson, 1950: The Nationalist Uprising, and Steps Sat. night Abducted in Plain Sight and The Human Element both on Friday night So instead of telling you to go see other films go see Best of Fests, they are all winners! have a great week

Discussion
Selena would have turned 50 years old Friday, but on March 31, 1995, just 16 days before her 24th birthday, she was murdered in Corpus Christi by the president of her fan club.
Her father Abraham Quintanilla made the announcement.
"My daughter Selena was killed this morning by ยืนยันเบอร์รับเครดิตฟรี a disgruntled employee.”
The news shocked her family and her fans. Candlelight vigils were held around the world.
"I get emotional you know talking about it thinking about it to this day,” said Mona Quintanilla.

Lapu-Lapu City to remove all travel restrictions
#PHnews: Lapu-Lapu City to remove all travel restrictions
LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu - The city government of Lapu-Lapu, which is home to Cebu’s airport and posh resorts, has removed all travel restrictions to enter the island, a landmark move to further support tourism recovery in the city.
Mayor Junard Chan made the announcement Friday night while stressing that public health and safety standards would continue to be strictly enforced, with a fine or community service for violators.
City Tourism, Cultural and Historical Affairs Commission (TCHAC) chairperson Cindi King-Chan has welcomed the mayor’s move, saying it’s a big advantage to the city’s tourism players.
In a statement, lawyer Misaellee Tejano, secretary of the mayor, said the city no longer requires a letter of acceptance, travel endorsements, travel authority issued by the Joint Task Force Shield, medical certificate, and swab test from domestic travelers.
She said this would benefit domestic tourists, authorized persons outside residence (APOR), and returning residents.
The city, however, has yet to seek clarification with the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID) on whether or not the removal of the RT-PCR test as a travel requirement applies to returning overseas Filipinos and foreign nationals traveling to the Philippines.
