what’s funny is tumblr was my first modern social media WAY before Reddit and Twitter. my former blog was created when I was in high school, and now I’m (oh my fucking god) 31 years old. I stopped regularly posting in my mid twenties, logged off permanently shortly after, and only created this new blog less than a year ago.

so here I am, vividly remembering THE most hellsite elements after a front row seat to the wackiest shit tumblr had to offer in the early 2010s (period blood cookies! Human remains! communismkills! gpoy Wednesday! The relevancy of lacy greene :/) yet totally clueless abt how it operates now.

I think it’s the first time I’ve ever felt truly behind on the times!! and I’m all fucked up attention span wise* from quick scrolling Twitter and getting so badly irony pilled that I only started engaging with fandom shit again in the last few months. Luckily tho, the cringe is in my bones, it’s like riding a bike and I need the serotonin.

genuinely curious if anyone else is in the same cabin.

*okay but really, Twitter is to blame for almost all of my brain rot. Pls be gentle with former Twitter users because we are in a constant boss battle with our souls and also adhd

Power was out for almost 6 hours today, and we got about another inch of snow (on top of the foot we got on Tuesday). I managed to get enough snow shoveled to unbury my car and navigate a path on the back deck, but now it’s time for a bubble bath and some relaxation.

I just spent 4 hours boiling water and climbing ladders to melt and remove the ice from my gutters (the joys of homeownership!), so now for a nice warm bath with a bath bomb I’ve been meaning to use for months!

SO. Joe. Beloved of my heart, soldier poet king. Joe is many and varied things to me, but you're right in saying Modern AU Joe and Original Flavour Joe are different.

Original Flavour Joe is a thousand years of growth and wisdom and understanding like we could never truly understand. He looked his greatest enemy in the face, an invader who entered his land with hate in his heart and a blade in his hand, and what did Joe do when the fighting proved futile?

He offered his hand to his enemy, and helped him to his feet.

Joe talks about Nicky's kindness, but I firmly believe Nicky learned it at Joe's hand.

Joe is sharp, and pragmatic, but also kind and loving and even after a thousand years still has hope for the world and the people in it. I know Greg said Joe wouldn't be religious anymore but Greg talks a lot of shite. I think Joe's love and spirituality would be very much intertwined, and I think it's vital to his character to honour that. I think you also have to look at all the living and moving parts of him. Yes, he's a poet and an artist, but he's also a millennium old mercenary. He's a lover and a fighter, and a scholar and just some guy, and I'm love him.

Modern AU Joe is endless possibility.

Modern AU Joe is a queer Muslim man of colour potentially from Tunisia, potentially from the Netherlands, potentially from anywhere really, but always always grounded in those first facts. You can do so many fascinating things with his character because let's be real: he just does not exist in media.

I love modern AU Joe because you can either choose to bring Joe right back to the start of his characterisation and speedrun his growth or you can take Joe as he is in the movie and imagine him elsewhere. I go back and forth in those characterisations as necessary for the particular aus I'm writing, but I always try and keep certain core elements of his character the same (see my yusufcore tag for a greater understanding of the Joe who exists in my head to be moved around like a Ken doll when I'm writing).

I think at the core of it I just think Joe is an exciting, dynamic character with whom I have enough in common (personality-wise) to see myself, but so many differences that I don't feel I'm projecting on him if I keep his characterisation consistent. Please tell me immediately if you ever think I'm slipping.

I just. I just love him. I love Joe.

When it comes to other au Joes I want to explore, I have so many WIPs. I think the ones I'm most excited about are all quite fledgling. I have a few secrets in the works, one of which I think might be my favourite Joe yet. I also have one that's very exciting but I literally cannot talk about rn, and I also have my big bang Joe which you know more about than you think. I have Joe on my mind all the time, I'm like Nicky that way.

HELP we had a woman in the library just now CLEARLY reading from a list of books being targeted for censorship in public & school libraries (presumably so she can read them & turn around to bitch about how they’re corrupting the children & need to be removed) & me, being an utter shit, checked out looking for alaska & the perks of being a wallflower for her, gave her a big smile and went “oh wow, you have GREAT taste—these were two of my favorites in high school!!!!!!” (which is true) and she looked like she bit into a lemon

listen she didn’t say why she was checking them out so i can only assume it’s due to her love of excellent 90s & 2000s ya fiction 😇😇😇😇

not to submit to the mortifying ordeal of being sincere on the internet, but your presence matters to people & your absence is felt in ways you can’t possibly realize

i have a standing bi-weekly appointment for a medical treatment, and i ended up missing a few appointments in a row for various reasons. and when i came back to the infusion center earlier this week, the nurses couldn’t stop saying that they really missed me & were wondering why i hadn’t been in

it had never occurred to me that i was anything more than a job duty to them. it never occurred to me that they’d miss seeing me, even though i know that i miss seeing regular library patrons & wonder where they are when they’re away. i just never put two & two together that way

so yes, people would notice if you disappeared off the face of the earth tomorrow. yes, people smile to themselves when you walk in the door. yes, your presence matters to far more people than you realize

okay, then bring it up to a librarian

seriously, teenagers are the absolute hardest group to engage at most libraries & we'll often organize programs that absolutely no one will show up to & it sucks. if you go up to a public librarian & say "hey, some friends & i want to do this thing. does that sound like a feasible teen program for the library?" most people will move heaven & earth to pull it off for you because we know there's an interest in our community. we will go balls to the freaking wall to make it happen

do you want a cosplay contest? a video game tournament? a free escape room? bring it up to the library. it's not a burden or an annoyance at all. it'll be like christmas came early for us

I decided to ask the devs on the most recent roadmap update whether Sandrock will be updated further in 2023. Happily they replied and said yes, and that they’re aiming to finish the game in 2023!

Sharing this on tumblr because of recent discussions and figured maybe some people didn’t know this. (I’m not on their Discord; I only keep up with the updates on Steam.)

I just started watching Interview With the Vampire and it opens with this ad that so closely mirrored those “Hi Im a famous person who’s good at my job. Here’s my expensive online class” ads that my mind immediately shut off and it took me like 2 minutes to realize it was apart of the show 😭😭😭 I knew the guy wasn’t familiar but I’m so out of touch these days I just figured it was someone I didn’t know

As I was heading out the door to watch the Superbowl with parents-in-law, the image popped into my head of Eliot and Nate discussing the Big Game, and Parker saying "What big game?" and Hardison being like, "? ?? You don't know about the Superbowl?" and Parker being all scornful "Of course I know what the superbowl is." and then just as Eliot is calming down, she adds "It's the safest day of the year to steal stuff from a residential neighborhood."

Like, obviously don't interrupt the show for it. But somewhere ... on a website, a wiki, something ... there should be links for all the outrageous bullshit the marks get up to.

When Breanna explains how an already-bad policy exacerbates racism? I would like a link for that.

When Harry explains the loophole in federal law that makes this theft legal? I would like a link for that.

When Eliot goes off about the ways working-class families are being harmed by something we consider "normal"? I would like a link for that.

And more than any of that, I would like a link to people who are working to change it. Like you know how we all got together and said "Yeah, medical debt is horrendous and this charity buys it up and then forgives it, be a superhero like Parker and delete someone's oncology bill!" -- could we do that for, like, all of this?

Just because I learned it from a TV show doesn't mean I don't want to share it with everyone I know. Quite the opposite, actually.

Saying a black woman looks like a man in a wig, not the best look. Maybe you and the rest of the balkans should go back to blowing each other up and leave the radical feminism to people who aren’t racists? Just a thought :)

At first I was confused what this hate mail was about. lol But then I remembered I wrote a comment on a post about a 38yo black guy who brainwashed young people by telling them that you don't have to be young in order to 'transition'. He shot himself up with a bunch of synthetic estrogen, claimed he now had hips (how?!), put a wig on his head, dressed himself in heals and a skirt and claimed he 'felt' like a woman.

So yeah, you should read up on what RADICAL feminism really stands for. I'll give you a hint: biological sex CANNOT be changed just because a guy has a fetish for wearing heals and women panties. No matter the race :)

PS: Oh don't you worry about Balkan people, you wouldn't even know where to point on the map lol

You trans lovers really are baffling sometimes. Writing two slur words in the same sentence and claiming I am the one who's transfobic and racist, when the only thing I wrote on that post was that the dude "still looks like a man" is a bit schizophrenic.
