The Love Language of Flowers
Tumblr media
-
Summary: An eccentric woman who runs a flower shop in the woods happens to bump into a young man and teaches him the language of the blooms.
-
Word count: 742 (chapter 3)
Masterpost
-
Warnings/triggers: I don’t think there’s anything? They drink hot cocoa
-
Author’s Notes: I really liked writing this chapter. Also, I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted a chapter for this! Life got weird. But I’m back now! Also it’s probably not gonna come up, but I am incapable of writing straight people, and this story is no exception. Henry’s bi, Annie doesn’t use labels. Also, I made a Pinterest board for this story! I’ll link it here.
-
The weatherman had predicted a layer of snow for that morning, and boy was she upset that she hadn’t listened to him. Annie was bundled up in every sweater and jumper that she had, and she was still cold. A fine layer of frost was decorating the windows of the shop, and she had to use her space heater on the flowers so that they didn’t wilt.
Not that she was expecting to get much business today anyways.
Victor had made himself at home in the innermost layer, her overall pocket on her chest, where it was warm and cozy.
“Yeah, I know you’re warm, you little shit.” He meowed happily at her.
Do I have a fever? I shouldn’t be THIS cold, she thought to herself. But that was a problem for another time.
Right on time, Henry bumbled into the store, covered head to toe in snow. He looked a bit like a snowman. His puffy coat with hats and gloves and snow pants and scarves, all white with snow.
“Where’s your sweater vest, Sweater Vest?” Annie chuckled.
“It’s under here somewhere, I promise. God, aren’t you freezing?”
“Obviously, but I don’t have 80 million coats to layer. I’ve got all the jumpers I own on. So, what crazy specific phrase am I turning into a bouquet today?”
“Oh, I’m not buying flowers today. I figured you probably wouldn’t be getting much business today, so I brought you some hot chocolate.” He opened his coat to reveal two cups of hot cocoa from the coffee shop down the street.
“Oh , Sweater Vest, you are a lifesaver.”
Henry smiled as he handed her the cup. She wrapped her hands around the cup, trying to warm her hands up.
“Here, have a seat,” she said as she kicked a barstool out. Like hers, it was covered in painted flowers and other small drawings.
“So, what have you been getting up to?” He asked.
“Not much. Running the shop takes up most of my time, but I rode my bike to the farmer’s market last night. I also added a few more paintings to my home.” She nodded her head over to the small cottage-like building connected to the shop.
Henry raised an eyebrow. “You live there?”
“Yup. It’s quaint, but it’s just me and Victor so it works. You wanna see?
Henry shrugged. “Sure, I guess.”
Her house was a big octagon, basically. There were windows everywhere, and a skylight on the ceiling. A bed was in the middle, with a kitchen set-up against the wall. There were two doors other than the one they came in, leading to a small closet and bathroom. And the walls, everything, actually, was covered head to toe in murals. All different things. Lots of vines, flowers, trees, and mountains, but also birds and butterflies.
“This is lovely,” Henry admitted in awe.
Annie blushed. “Aw, thank you. I did most of it myself, the only thing that was here when I found the place was the bones.”
“You did all of this yourself?”
“Yup. Parts of it were a bit difficult, especially the things up high. But I managed, and now it’s my favorite place in the world.”
“Wow. And I’m over here still living in a shoebox apartment.” With a jolt, Henry’s phone started to ring. He answered it and listened as the person on the other end talked. After a few minutes, he hung up.
“Shit. That was my boss, I have to go into work, and I still have to make the 30 minute walk back-“
“Hold on, you walked all the way here? In the cold?” Annie interrupted.
“Yeah, I don’t have a car. Or a bike. Or a skateboard, roller skates, anything of that nature. Not like I would know how to use either of the last two even if I did have them.”
“Here, I’ll drive you up into town.”
“Annie, you don’t have to do that-“
“Shut up, I’m not letting you walk back 2 miles in this weather when the only reason you came here in the first place was to bring me hot chocolate. I’m paying you back.”
“There’s no point in arguing with you, is there?”
“No. No there is not.”
Henry sighed. “Fine.”
She grabbed her keys off her nightstand and headed out to her car.
Henry just smiled and followed her out. Does this make us friends now? He thought.
I hope it does.

Cas is drunk
"Just...one kiss. How do you know you don't like boys if you haven't kissed one?"
"I just do."
"Come on." Cas walked in between Dean's legs, a dumb smile on his lips. "Just one kiss."
"Dude, we said no kissing. One of the first rules I gave you when you came out to me."
"Rules are meant to be broken. We break them all the time!"
Cas reached over to cradle Dean's head. Watching him with a soft look as his fingertips touched him so gently. Nothing like the way he has been touched before but that's what Cas does. He knows him the way nobody ever tried to know him. But he's only his best friend.
"Cas-"
"Shhh," Cas tells him, his eyes brows knitting together as his eyes are locked on his lips. A thumb softly brushed his lower lip before Cas started to lean in. "One kiss."
Dean didn't move. Didn't stop him. Cas kissed him once. Twice. Three times and Dean wasn't sure if he was kissing him back but he forced his arms to stay on his side.
"Anything?" Cas asked when he finally did pull away. A faraway look on his eyes with a blush from the kiss or the alcohol he didn't know.
"Nope."
"Well, at least we got one thing from it."
"What?"
"I got to kiss the boy I'm in love with."
"Whatever, dude." Dean gently shoved him away as Cas laughed before ordering another beer for both of them.
It took three weeks for Dean to finally forget the tingle of the kiss on his lips.
-
He knocked at Cas's door
"Dean."
"Hey, Cas."
"Finally done ignoring me."
"I wasn't...You didn't call me either."
"It's called giving someone space."
"Well, that's what I was doing."
"Oh, so you weren't off in a gay panic?"
"Screw you, Cas."
"I'm sorry." He laughed. "You're still my best friend then?"
"Yeah."
"Still my person?"
Dean rolls his eyes as he stuffs his hands in his front pants pockets. "Yeah. Whatever."
"Do you wanna go out?"
Dean looked up at him. Eyebrows raised. "Like a date?"
"No, I meant just as we usually hang out but if you wanna see it as a first date-"
"Fuck you, dude."
"I mean I'm not stopping you."
They don't talk about the kiss.
Cas talks about another guy from work and Dean is happy for his best friend.
-
"Oh, I made out with Meg last weekend-"
"What? I thought you said you only liked guys?"
"Bisexual. I like everyone, dumbass."
"Then why are you obsessed with me."
"Cause while I like everyone I only love you."
"Oh." He paused. "Why do I feel like you're always teasing me."
"Cause you're dumb and easy to tease."
"Then why do you like me so much?"
"Same reason. Plus you're cute."
"Why do I put up with you?"
"Cause I'm cute."
They both laugh.
-
Dean never likes anyone Cas talks about. He doesn't know why.
"Why are you angry?"
"I'm not!"
"Is it cause I talk about Benny too much?"
"No! Why would I care about that asshole?"
"He's not an asshole! He's nice and he likes me."
"I don't want to hear that, Cas."
"Why not?"
"So what? Are you over me or whatever?"
Cas blinks at him a couple of times before his jaw sets. "No. Stupidly enough I still love you."
Dean doesn't understand the relief that floods him.
"You know what's really annoying, Dean?" Dean doesn't answer as Cas gets too close to his face. "It's that whenever I kiss anybody - anybody at all! - I can only think of you! Do you know how frustrating that is?"
Dean doesn't answer.
"If you can't be my best friend and be happy for me then I'm leaving."
Dean doesn't stop him.
-
Dean gets angrier as the days pass without Cas.
"What the hell is your problem?" Charlie yelled at him as Dean punched his bathroom mirror without thinking. He was sitting at the kitchen table with her bandaging him up. "You've been so mad lately, dude. It's scary now."
"I'm...I'm sorry. I-I don't know why."
Charlie sighed and the anger in her eyes turned to pity. "You know why, Dean. You gotta accept it now."
"What are you talking about."
"Cas."
"What about him?"
"You love him."
"No. I mean...I do but we're just-"
"No, Dean. No. You love Cas." Dean just looked at her and stared at her lips as she said, "You're in love with him."
"Why are you saying that?"
"Cause it's true."
Dean shakes his head but feels Charlie reaching over to wipe away tears from his cheek. He cries. He cried and she held him.
-
It takes a few days but Dean is standing at Cas's door again.
"Dean."
"Hey, Cas."
Cas doesn't look like he was gonna say anything else so Dean continued.
"Can we talk?"
"If you're done being an asshole."
"I'm done."
"Good." Cas stepped aside to let Dean into his apartment. "Do you remember when we kissed?"
"I thought you said you're done being an asshole."
"Just answer me."
"Fine. Yes."
"I told you I felt nothing from it?"
Cas rolls his eyes and crosses his arms over his chest. "I remember."
"Well, I lied."
Cas's arms squeezed closer to him as he stared back at him, confused with narrowed eyes. "What do you mean?"
"I lied." Dean stepped closer to him. Cas's eyes widened as he looked him up and down. Probably trying to figure out if he was drunk. "I lied to you, Cas."
"Dean?"
"I felt something. I haven't stopped feeling it. And I think...I think I'm okay with feeling it." Dean was now standing in Cas's personal space. "Can I ask you to kiss me again?"
Cas shook his head. "No. No, I want you to kiss me."
So Dean kissed him. Kissed him again and again. Holding him and finally letting himself accept the love Cas has been offering. Finally being able to love Cas back the way he deserved.

Hello! If you know me then you know I like Claire and Jack the double trouble siblings. And I think that’s exactly what this story needed. Some Claire. Cause I miss her and I love her. I was gonna write her at the end but nope. Also, as you can tell I love having Cas curse a lot. Cause he totally would. He tries not to in front of the kids. Okay, enjoy!
If you want to keep up or read what I wrote before about what this domestic family is doing after the whole defeated God thing then check out my masterpost here!
“Yeah, Sammy, you’re coming over.” Dean was pacing the kitchen as Jack and Cas watched his every move. “No...No, I don’t care that you’re busy...Sam! We’re having a damn Christmas this year and you will be a part of it! Got it?”
Cas and Jack shared a look before they looked back at Dean.
“Don’t you dare...Sam! Don’t you dare hang up on me.” Cas winced when he heard the dial tone on the phone. “Oh, you motherfucker-”
“Dean.” Cas stood up to go over and comfort him but Dean just marched past them. Racing up the stairs already dialing Sam’s number again.
“Does...does Sam not want to have Christmas with us?” Jack finally spoke as Cas stood still by the kitchen chair not knowing what to do. Should he give Dean some space? Should he call Sam himself and try to convince him? Should he call Eileen?
“I’m not...I’m not sure, Jack.” Cas honestly tells him as he feels his legs again and busies himself with the dishes. His hands needed to do something. “I’m sure everything will turn out fine.”
Then he heard the flutter of wings and Cas turned around to see his kid was gone.
“Jack?” Cas dries his hands on his shirt as he walks to the living room to find it empty. “Jack?” He calls out to him again and this time Miracle barks along with him as they both race upstairs to his bedroom. He can hear Dean arguing still and ignores it as he goes over to Jack’s room to see the door is still wide open and empty.
“Dean!” Cas runs to his own bedroom and opens the door to catch Dean still pacing the floor.
“Babe, give me a-” Dean turns around and he might have read something in Cas’s expression because he was quick to rush over to him. “Cas, what’s wrong?”
“Jack, he um...he flew away.” Cas tried to catch his breath but it was coming out shallow the more he thought of it because Jack’s grace wasn’t full yet and there was almost a damn blizzard outside their warm cozy home. “Dean.”
Cas reached over to grab Dean’s shoulders as if to steady himself and ground himself all at once. Usually, Dean will calm him. It has always worked because he was comfortable and home but his kid flew away from right under his nose. He feels dizzy.
“Jack. Dean, we gotta find Jack.” Cas desperately clings to him when Dean pulls him in for a hug. “He’s not at full power, Dean. He could be lost or...or hurt.”
“Hey, It’s okay. It’s okay.” The strain in Dean’s voice showed how not okay he was about any of this.
“What happened?” He could hear Sam on the other side of the phone cause Dean must have put it on speaker.
“He must have heard us fighting.” Dean answers, his jaw set tight and probably feeling guilty. “Sam, make sure he didn’t fly to the bunker. The kid’s still weak. I’ll call Gabe or Adam to see if they can go pick him up.”
“On it but Dean...I’m sorry. I just have a lot on my plate right now and-”
“I get it, Sam.”
“No, Dean, you’re right. I should prioritize my family over my job. So as soon as we find Jack tell him me and Eileen will be showing up at your house for Christmas.” Sam said, trying to sound calm. “And we’re finding him, okay?”
After hanging up Cas was already going to start his prayer to Gabriel when they heard the flutter of wings behind them. They both turned towards the noise to hear Claire say, “A little help here.”
Jack was slumped against her as his head fell forward before he fell down on his knees, Claire coming down with him.
Cas ran over to them, sliding into his knees pretty hard, as he brought both of them into a hug. Dean can see Cas’s shoulders fall as he relaxed just a little more, his head falling to rest against Jack’s own.
Then Cas pulled back to look at Jack, “What the hell was that?”
“Dad,”
Cas was not done as he grabbed Jack’s shoulder. “You scared the shit out of me!”
“I’m fine.”
“I didn’t know that! One second you’re there and the next...I didn’t even know you could fucking fly again!”
Jack flinched at the words as Claire put a hand on Cas’s own shoulder to calm him down. “Dad, it’s okay. He’s fine. We’re both-”
“It’s not fine! This is the second fucking time that he…” Cas trailed off as he took a deep breath. Looking between his kids’ faces before letting his head hang in embarrassment. “I’m sorry.”
“Dad, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean...I didn’t mean to scare you.” Jack started but Cas was shaking his head. “Don’t cry. Please.”
Cas brought him into a tight hug, hiding his face into Jack’s shoulder.
Dean walked over and sent the kids to Jack’s room while he brought Cas back to their room to cool off. Dean sat in the middle of the bed while he watched Cas pace around the room.
“I was too harsh.” He slid his hand down his face in frustration. “I was just-”
“You were scared. I know, babe, I was too.”
“I understand he doesn’t like conflict. I do. But he can’t just...he can’t just run away like that!”
“He’s a kid, Cas. If I could have flown away whenever my family fought I totally would have. No doubt about it.” Cas groaned as a response and Dean slid to the edge of the bed to grab Cas from the waist when he walked close enough. “And if memory serves me right, I remember one little angel who sucked at goodbye’s when he had his wings.”
Cas rolled his eyes but let Dean take a hold of him. Pull him close and between his legs until he could rest his head against Cas’s stomach. Feeling his boyfriend’s fingers run through his hair as he took calming breaths.
“I was scared too, Cas. Fucking terrified when you walked in here with that damn expression but you know he doesn’t respond well when we’re angry at him.”
Cas rolled his eyes, along with his whole head because he’s dramatic, as he let out a humorless chuckle. “Oh gosh, you’re lecturing me about responding with anger. I must have really fucked up.”
“Hey,” Dean slaps Cas’s ass to get a real smile out of him. “I’m growing, okay?”
“Yeah,” Cas sniffles with a smile as he leaned down to drop his forehead against Dean’s own. “Yeah, you are.”
They didn’t say anything after a while before Cas took a heavy breath.
“What are we going to do now, Dean?”
They went back to Jack’s room after a while only to find both of them fast asleep on Jack’s bed.
Tomorrow they will talk. Right now, Dean calls Jody while Cas calls Kaia to let them know where Claire was. Before they call Sam to let him know what happened.

Hello! Day 12 of my advent calendar is more Christmassy like I promised lol but can you believe destiel went canon for a third time wow okay well enjoy this story! Catch up on my domestic deancas advent calendar with this masterpost here!
Summary: The family goes to Christmas Tree Lane to show Jack the lights. Dean and Cas flirt with each other while Jack, the cutie that he is, tells some parents that their little girl is actually a boy. Enjoy!
Christmas Tree Lane.
That’s what they called these four blocks, maybe even more, of houses decorated so elegantly and yet haphazardly.  It was astonishing to see so many lights piled on these houses and the yards covered in fake angels or what they believe was that nativity scene.
‘It was much more unhygienic than what these people are showing us.’ He told Dean in annoyance after they passed their third one. Dean just squeezed his hand and called him old.
A house was decorated to look like an actual gingerbread house and Jack reminded them that they have yet to make theirs. Dean laughed as a grimace fell upon Cas’s face but he promised to do that with his son soon. As long as they went to buy the terrible boxed versions because he was not going through that breakdown again.
They were just about to cross the street when Dean let go of Cas’s hand. He expected to feel an arm around him or some other form to replace the loss of touch but nothing came. He turned around ready to complain only to see Dean had run off to help someone carry a stroller up the high sidewalk.
“Thank you so much!” The woman sighed with relief as she flashed his boyfriend a bright smile. “If only my husband can be just as diligent.”
She motioned for the man who was standing by Cas, taking pictures of the house over and over again, before sighing. “He promised a family day but of course work comes first for him.”
“Sorry,” Dean scratches the back of his beanie covered head. “I don’t know why he’ll be ignoring such a pretty thing like yourself and this little princess,” Dean looked into the strolled to see a wide-eyed baby staring back at him as they chewed on some teething rings. “She’s such a cutie.”
“Thank you.” The lady blushed because being complimented by Dean Winchester does that to people. “Her name is Rosie.”
“Rosie.” Dean smiled down at the baby before looking up at Cas, his smile leaving the formal angel breathless. “Babe! I want one.”
Cas shuffled his feet as he felt his face warm up at that loud announcement. His arms crossed over his chest while opening his mouth to say something but his voice was caught in his throat before he narrowed his eyes at Dean. He threw his head back and laughed while Cas tried to keep from looking so fondly at the love of his life.
He looks so beautiful, Cas thought to himself as he made his way over to where Dean stood.
“I’m so sorry if my husband,” Dean raised an eyebrow at that but then a smile broke through his shocked expression. “Is bothering you.”
The woman's expression was the usual shocked one that strangers give them when they announce they are together but her eyes were still warm so that’s a good sign. “Oh, no bother! He’s been a lovely gentleman.”
“Hear that?” Dean leans into him, a grin on his face. “A gentleman.”
Cas fights the urge to roll his eyes but smiles back at the woman. “That’s so kind of you to think so.”
“Hey, friends of yours?” Dean and Cas both turn towards the man who wraps his arm around the woman’s shoulders. She automatically shakes him off and shoots him a glare. He seemed to ignore her and tried to stare them down. “I’m Ryan. Luci’s husband.”
Dean wrapped one arm around Cas’s shoulders while taking Ryan’s outstretched hand in the other, a cocky smile on his face. “Dean. This is my husband, Cas.” Cas gave him a small nod while trying to keep the polite façade on. “Over there is our son, Jack.”
Dean points at Jack who was wandering inside the yard of the gingerbread houses with the other children following behind him. Running around while their parents tried catching them.
“Jack!” Cas called out to him to grab his attention before one of the parents started talking to him. Cas would sure regret losing his angel powers if he ever finds another person yell at his kid. Jack looked up at him and lifted his hand up to wave. “Come on, meet the baby!”
Jack waved goodbye at some of the children before he walked over back to them. He waved up at the couple, Luci waved and smiled back at him and Cas instantly liked her.
“Oh, Rory!” Jack looked down at the baby, his eyes soft with familiarity. “He’s gonna be so happy when he’s older.” Jack looks up at them with a smile. “You two would be great parents to him.”
“She.” Ryan corrected him, softly as if not sure himself now when Jack sounded so confident.
Jack shakes his head. “No, I clearly remember-”
Dean shared a look with Cas knowing it was probably just the God magic in him that could read souls that Jack was referring too. Maybe not the best time to tell these parents about their baby’s future. Cas put his hands on Jack’s shoulders to pull him back to him before Jack opened his mouth to continue to explain.
“Jack, honey, how about let’s get some hot chocolate.” He started ushering Jack away towards a tent at the end across the street. He turned towards the couple. “Nice meeting both of you.”
“Oh, bye!” Jack waved at them. “Thanks for being so understanding. He will love you both so much!”
“Jack.” Cas quietly sighed before meeting Dean’s eyes for him to hurry up.
Dean gave an awkward laugh before saying his own goodbye and rushing towards Cas’s side.
“Kid, you can’t go around outing a damn baby.” Jack looks back at Dean with a confused but cute look on his face, mimicking Cas’s own little head tilt.
“I just wanted to congratulate them.” Jack defended himself as they walked over to the short line of what looks like crappy water down hot chocolate but something warm is exactly what they need right now. Plus, they were free. “Rory is going to do great things!”
Cas's smile was too fond as he looked at his own kid. Remembering when he was still in Kelly’s stomach and knowing Jack would do great things as well. Believing and loving him throughout it all.
“I believe you.” Cas tells him as he brings Jack into a hug. “Rory will be amazing. Just like you.”
Jack chuckled as Cas left kisses on the side of his face. “Dad, stop!”
“We can talk more about your soul readings later.” Dean tells him as they reach the front of the line. The lady at the front looked at them strangely before she smiled and asked how many they would want.
They walked the rest of Christmas Tree Lane. Watching Jack go excitingly from house to house already getting ideas to decorate their house for next year. Dean walked around with his arms around Cas’s waist as he hugged him from behind. Leaving kisses on his cheek and wherever else he can reach as the night dragged on.
“Husband huh?” Dean hummed into his ear as they walked back to the car with Jack finding new things to point out from the houses they just saw.
“Maybe...if you’ll finally propose to me again then maybe we can make that a reality.” Cas didn’t turn to look back at him, knowing Dean was already rolling his eyes.
“You’re such an asshole.” Dean muttered, a grin was pressed against Cas’s skin as he giggled when Dean nibbled at his cheek.
“Dad’s, can we drive past the lights this time?” Jack turned to look at them with a grin so big that neither of them can say no to him. Plus it gives Dean a chance to show off the reindeer antlers that Jack got for Baby.

Hello. Sorry I missed day 10 but I haven’t been sleeping and yesterday was the first day I had more than four hours of sleep! But enjoy day 11! Sorry, I keep forgetting to add the Christmassy stuff but after today it’s full on Christmas all the time lol Enjoy! Catch up on my advent calendar with my masterpost link here
Summary: If you like Gabriel then you’re in luck he stops by for a visit and Cas is sick from the snowball fight from day 9.
Their bedroom was warm from the heater and the scent of vaporub filled the air. Steppenwolf was playing softly from their record player, just enough to be comforting background noise. The curtains were pushed open so Cas could enjoy the view of the cloudy sky while he laid on his stomach.
His eyes shut as he felt Dean’s rough palms massage down his bare back. He melted into the familiar touch as he let Dean fuss over him again.
“Is this okay?” He heard from behind him and Cas only hummed a noise in approval. “Kept rolling you to your side last night cause your damn snoring got so loud that Miracle started barking at our door.”
Cas raised his eyebrows at that because he doesn’t even remember that. The cold medicine he has been taking really knocks him out. He can barely keep his eyes open minutes after taking it.
Even right now while he had Dean’s weight on him, ‘Cause how else will I message you if I’m not straddling you, Cas.’, He could easily just pass out. Feeling Dean’s lips right between his shoulder blades made him feel so alive and warm. He was so comfortable that maybe he will just go back to sleep for a little-
“What’s the emergency?!” They heard a panic voice before a chuckle then a whistle. “Wow, what are you two doing?”
They heard the unexpected loud voice that made Dean fall off the bed but quickly scramble to cover himself in a blanket. Cas sat up and even in his dazed phase he threw the angel blade that pierced through Gabriel’s chest.
“Ow.” Gabriel said as he pulled the blade out while Cas relaxed back into the bed. “Well what a nice welcome.”
“Gabriel?” Dean shuffles to his feet as he wraps the blanket around his shoulders. “Get the fuck out of our room!”
Cas groaned as he hid his face back on his pillow but couldn’t really relax without feeling the blade right under it so he held his hand out. Dean took it hesitantly but Cas slapped it away as he mumbled, “Give me my blade back.”
“Oh.” Dean said sadly but Cas turned to look at him. Puckering his lips to ask for a kiss only to get Dean shoving his face in the pillow. “Go to sleep, asshole.”
Gabriel walked over to them and sat by Cas’s feet. “What the hell is wrong with you?”
“I’m sick.”
Gabriel laughed, slapping Cas’s back a little too hard that Cas jumped up in pain. “Oops. Forgot you’re a big softie now.”
“I’m sure that would have hurt even if I had my grace.” Cas said as Dean pushes Gabriel away, really he kicks him a few times and motions with his head to move. “Why are you here, Gabriel?”
Dean, still covering himself in his blanket, took Gabriel’s spot while the archangel looked around the room in curiosity.
“What? Can’t I just come down here to visit my baby bro and favorite nephew?” Gabriel reached over to touch the record player but Dean quickly threatened to stab him if he touched it so Gabe dropped his hand with a grin. “Well. If i’m not needed I’m just gonna say a quick hello to tiny Cas before I head back upstairs.”
Cas sat up to narrow his eyes at his brother. “You said there was an emergency.”
“Did I?”
“Yes. When you flew in here.” Cas rolled his eyes while Dean quickly draped his blanket over Cas’s shoulders.
“Dude, just tell us why you’re here so we can move on.” Dean says as he stands up, wearing nothing but his scooby snack underwear and an old t-shirt, to walk to his drawer for some sweatpants. Mumbling something about angel warding the bedroom.
Gabriel clicked his tongue as he started walking out the bedroom door. “I don’t want to get the kid in trouble-”
“Jack called on you?” Cas asked, his tone switching from annoyance to concern as he stood up to follow after Gabriel. “Why? Is he okay? Is he not in his room?”
Gabriel opened the door and there stood a sheepish Jack with Miracle sitting besides him, hanging her head as she whined.
“Kid, wanna explain yourself?” Gabriel motioned for him to come in just as Cas had a small coughing fit.
“That!” Jack motioned at Cas as he looked back at Gabriel. “He’s been sick for so long!”
“It’s been almost two days.” Dean corrects him as he walks to stand by Gabriel, arms crossed in concern. “It’s normal, Jack.”
“But you said it sounded like he was miserable and I just-” Jack sighed letting his shoulders hunch forward. “I didn’t want him to be sad when he’s been so happy lately. I mean...what’s the point of having our family if we can’t ask them for help?”
“Kids got a point.” Gabriel nudges Dean who looks down at his underwear. “Wow twinsies I have the same pair. Looks better on me though.”
Dean rolled his eyes at him before giving Jack his attention. “Jack, humans get sick. That’s just a part of life.”
“Humans get sick and die. I’m not ready to lose…” Cas had another coughing fit as he sat back down on the bed, reaching to drink the water on the nightstand. Jack’s eyes wandered to Cas as he quietly said, “I don’t want to lose Dad again.”
“Jack,” Cas’s rough voice made them all look up at him. Cas motioned for Jack to walk over to him. He didn’t start talking until Jack was standing in front of him. “I’m not dying. Not anytime soon at least.”
Gabriel shrugged at that and Dean punched his arm, only really hurting himself but it was the sentiment that counts.
“My fever is down,” Cas smiled reassuringly at him. “Thank you for bringing me my medicine and tea these last few days. I’m feeling so much better now.”
“You do?”
Cas nodded at him as he reached to grab Jack’s arm. “I am. So don’t worry so much. I’ll be better by tomorrow so we can go see those Christmas lights you wanted.”
“Can’t Uncle Gabe just-” Jack motioned towards Gabriel again but Cas was already shaking his head. “I don’t get why you can’t accept his help.”
“I want to experience being human and being sick is part of it.”
“But you hate it. I hated it when I was sick.”
“It’s the worst but it’s part of the journey.” Cas winked at him and then shoved Jack towards Gabriel. “Now go apologize to your Uncle for worrying him and invite him to Christmas.”
Gabriel promised to stop by for their Christmas. He then took Jack to buy him some late dinner while Dean stayed behind to climb back on their bed. Pulling Cas close to his chest and squeezing him.
“Maybe we should let Gabe heal you.” Dean suggested as Cas coughed into his hand before groaning out in pain.
“Fuck, yes. I already prayed to him to come back and heal me after Jack goes to bed.” Cas looked up at his boyfriend. “I can’t handle this another day, Dean. I can’t even smell you and you’re right here! It’s torture.”
“Not smelling me?” Dean grinned down at him with raised eyebrows.
“Have you smelled yourself? It’s intoxicating.”
