"but spacie, i have no followers why should i reblog things" let me answer this question using myself, a person who has been using tumblr for almost a decade now, as an example. pre 2022 the most followers i ever had was like 125. most of them were dead blogs. killed in the porn ban or just people who had left for whatever reason. out of the people left who were still active, i had like 3 people at the most interact with my blog on a monthly basis. for years b4 this, i had ZERO FOLLOWERS but upon making my blog i saw all the other ppl who had been using this website longer than me talking abt how important it was ta reblog shit, and throughout all these years on tumblr, even when i had no followers i reblogged things. b/c i understood that it was integral ta the way this site functions.
now mind you, just b/c i had no followers didn't mean ppl wouldn't stop by and reblog things from my blog. every couple months id have a new person find me and reblog something. maybe they'd reblog a lot of stuff! the point is that id go months without any interaction at times and i STILL reblogged things because i knew people could find me and see something they liked on here. eventually people who frequently checked my blog ta see what i would reblog followed me!! im sure there’s ppl who dont follow me that ta this day who still reblog the stuff on here!! the point is that it genuinely doesnt matter how many followers you have. sure, it certainly helps, but ppl can still find and interact with the things on your blog without you having thousands or even hundreds of followers. so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE reblog things.

something that's been weighing on my mind ever since learning about the situation with ezra / toonimal is seeing how these predators will take the active hostility that is frequently directed towards minors in online spaces to their advantage and use it to prey on vulnerable children. i think that we as adults in online fandom should probably come together and maybe rethink the language / manner we go about interacting with kids bc clearly the way things are rn is causing active harm.
like obviously, if you're an adult and aren't comfortable with minors interacting with you or your content, you should be allowed to set that boundary and should be vocal about it, ( especially if the content you create isn't safe for them to consume. ) but i don't think talking to them like they're a blight on all that is good and holy is the way to go about it. maybe just saying you're an 18 plus account will suffice, you don't have to tell them to fuck off.

just ended up sending in feedback about the layout to support.
But I have to say it here too, this new layout is such a pain in the ass to figure out. I hated twitter's layout for the same reason, its so annoying to use and everything feels so cluttered and squished in and distracting... it's actually headache inducing.
I really wish I had the option to switch back. I wish there was an option to CHOOSE between the two layouts. I wish I had the choice to opt out of "testing" this thing.
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it" really should have been brought up before they even tried making this. It was fine before, and now the new layout is completely different and frustrating when it didn't need to be.
If I wanted Twitter's layout, I would have just fucking gone to Twitter.

Remember when May the 4th being Star Wars Day was just this little internet thing and not used as a vehicle to push a bunch of Star Wars merch that only makes sense to wear one day of the year?
... I do. Barely.
At least International Talk Like a Pirate Day will remain untainted because it is the dorkiest, least cool internet holiday ever and I imagine most zoomers don't even know it exists.

i've been learning basic html to make my own website and looking at old geocities sites for inspo and i've been doing a lot of thinking about how web 2.0 took away so much of the versatility and potential of the web and deprived so many people of the ability to learn to make things themselves, things that are 100% theirs and not vulnerable to the whims of a feeble-minded thin skinned billionaire, and i could do like a whole thinkpiece on that loss and how we need to encourage a movement to return to that but right now. i'm looking at old gifs. and i don't mean to be hyperbolic but i think this may be when human design and creativity peaked

idk why everyone's so scared of reddit. reddit is like the akashic records to me. when I have a specific question about anything 9 times out of 10 I get the best results from doing my search with the "site:reddit.com" filter added. reddit fully introduced me to the delightfully insane rabbit hole that is TES lore. reddit is where I found out about the lifesaving (hyperbole, but only barely) properties of Gold Bond powder -- and NOT all the damn commercials I had to hear from them on the radio in the nineties. reddit is where all the people with the same ultra-specific tech problem I'm having have gone to beg for answers. reddit is without a doubt the one place where all the most autistic people in the world congregate to write dissertations about whatever hyper-niche thing they care about because somebody on reddit is gonna give a fuck, and if not, then some future person doing a hyper-niche google search will be incredibly grateful for it
reddit is also the best source for hobby drama, fun bots (there was a great Ben Shapiro bot in my city subreddit recently, lmao), people being demonstrably weirder and more unhinged than you (if you're like me and sometimes need that bit of perspective), people being exactly as weird and unhinged as you (thank god I'm not alone), people having the funniest relationship drama imaginable (offsets the people who are having the most awful relationship drama imaginable), legendary stories that are so indescribably cursed that you will never recover (the jolly rancher that was very much not a jolly rancher comes to mind...), and learning way too much about a subject you hadn't even cared about until you hit the 'random subreddit' button and got introduced to your new sudden-onset hyperfixation. also, poem for your sprog is there.
