such a shame the anime cut out all the softer moments in the manga. it feels like ciel has to be cold and stiff as possible without break. the voice actor did a nice job but sometimes I wonder if a more boyish, emotive tone would have worked (think your typical shonen protag). like, he laughs more often than you think!

in the manga, ciel's emotions have more nuance and his childish personality comes off more natural and I would say relaxed? take this scene when he rejects madame red:

he so much softer with her than the anime? there having such an open conversation in their nightwear and he even kisses her goodnight?? like, he's fully capable of showing affection and whatnot and has moments of vulnerability (and perphaps this is a needed contrast, as her death sets him back emotionally again).

hey remember when nandor references them watching the wedding planner on a rainy sunday afternoon (probably snuggled under a blanket i don't think that was mentioned but it was heavily implied lets be honest) and last season guillermo was watching twilight with the nandor stand-in corpse while being jealous? this absolutely means watching movies together probably on guillermo's laptop so they have to snuggle together to see it/share headphones has got to be a ritual of theirs they've been doing for awhile now, for it to be such a point of comfort and familiarity for both of them. now when both of them have been upset/uncertain they return to that little safe space concept of the two of them watching something together in close proximity. this means all my stupid headcanons about them doing this and cuddling are probably CANON or at least close enough to being so.

given nandor's hesitation to ever really touch or show guillermo affection despite him very much wanting to, do you think these moments together gave him kind of an innocent, distracted opportunity to enjoy guillermo's proximity and even his occasional touch without concern for losing sight of himself or the nature of their dynamic (what he thinks it must be)? i do. I REALLY do lmao

I'm also not suPER normal about Nandor suddenly backing off his warm recollection of their afternoon together when Guillermo agrees it was a nice time, as if to remind us Nandor's intentionally sabotaging and putting distance between them. Even Guillermo seems confused at the sudden 180. Just smacks so hard of Nandor continuing to deny that which he's getting worse at actually denying/hiding, probably for the sake of sparing Guillermo a lifetime as or with a vampire. This is fine!

Jen is such a movies on the first date kind of girl... I think they definitely went to see a horror film on a night when the theater was almost completely empty save for one or two other people. They got tickets for something low budget with cheap scares and lots of syrupy fake blood. Their hands touched... while reaching for popcorn at the same time... and then maybe they leaned in for a kiss while some pretty blonde actress was getting slashed 🤭 Atmosphere! Afterwards, they shared a milkshake and some fries while sitting on the hood of Jen's old rundown car.

Who initiates affection? Why does the other not initiate affection as much?

Given her past experiences being in a relationship, Jen tends to be a little distant at first– purely as a precaution. Meri would have to initiate affection 99% of the time until she was more comfortable to do it herself, but after that, she will not be able to escape cuddly Jen. Lots of hugs and sticky lip gloss kisses on the cheek.

Do they share any hobbies or interests? How do these things bring them together?

Calling back to question one... movies! Not just horror, but anything that they can find at the video store. Jen loves film and Meri is more than happy to indulge the interest by renting whatever movie she wants to watch when she gets off her late shift at the diner. They'll cuddle up on the couch, but Jen usually can't stay awake after being on her feet for hours, so Meri will watch the rest of the movie and have questions about the cinematography ready for when they inevitably rewatch the bits she missed. Anything to see Jen's face light up in pure joy and excitement.

the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT????
