How did you get into the Lambert x Rodrigue ship? I'm still relatively new to the Fire Emblem fandom and haven't gone completely through Three Hopes, so maybe that's why I don't understand the ship? I mean. It's really cute, and your art is adorable, but my only question is why? Did they have a certain interaction that was brought up that made you go "yes!" about the ship? Or was it just a "Hey. It would be cool to ship these two so fuck it. Why not?" No matter how you answer, it's completely valid. I just want to try to understand the ship a bit better.

Because I'm a sucker for the King & his most loyal companion trope -- the homoeroticism of it is compelling to me.

I always liked the "let's talk about weird mysteries" aspect of buzzfeed unsolved, but being real with you, I'm uncomfortable with true crime and the culture surrounding it. like... as someone who lost a loved one to a violent (and temporarily unsolved) crime, I've seen firsthand how internet theorizing can make a traumatizing time even harder and like. it's fucking rough, man.

I get that it makes money and all (which... is a whole other can of worms) but when you view human suffering as entertainment, it's so easy to forget about the real people who will actually be affected by what's put out there on the internet.

so I'm happy that Shane and Ryan seem to be leaning a lot more into "wow, some unhinged shit happened! how fucked up is that?" on mystery files. more of this, please!!

It's 100% true that the Roy siblings did not choose to be Logan's children and Tom and Greg and the old guard did choose to work for him so their relationships to Logan are fundamentally different, and the degree of culpability they bear for their own moral degradation is also wildly different. But workplace emotional abuse is also very real and omnipresent in the way Logan treats the people who work for him. And one of the impacts of workplace emotional abuse is creating an extreme attachment to the abuser and becoming less cognizant and even defensive of their abuse towards yourself and others, and in cases where the emotional abuse is institutionalized and systemic it can also create a strong aversion to leaving because your whole sense of personal identity becomes wrapped up in the organization and so being forced to leave can cause an intense psychological crisis. I don't think the situation of working for Logan is at all equivalent to being his child but I also think that it's a bit misguided to imply that Tom and Gerri and Frank and Karl are operating from a place of pure rationality without any undue psychological influences when they make the choice to stay with and support Logan

#used to work at a place that had an extremely emotionally abusive president for years and years and the people who worked there long term #were FUCKED UP. it was wild #i think it's easy to overlook that on succ bc it's very secondary to whats going on with the roy family proper. as it should be #but I also think one of the questions succ explores in tom as a character (and others) is how difficult it can be to leave these situations #even if you did choose to get into them #I don't think 'tom can leave at any time' is really a fair assessment bc technically yes. but practically? psychologically? #like yes he bears responsibility for getting himself into this situation due to his own greed and selfishness in a way the roy kids do not #but that doesn't mean it's easy or straightforward to walk away #also. tom is married to shiv which places him in the unique position where the only way to walk away is to cut off both his wife #and the company he's spent his whole life at #he could have NOT married shiv this is very true. and I think the choice to marry her even after she lied to him about sleeping with nate #means that he did have some idea of what he was getting into. he knew this was not going to be the fairytale marriage he wanted #he already knew about cruises too. he knew waystar was corrupt #that moment was the opportunity to walk away and he did NOT take it #and that is on him #but that does not making walking away now any easier

had my stepdad's funeral today (not my current stepdad) and hoooooo boy the abandonment issues are in full swing :)

I know I’m talking to an empty theater here but the writing on that episode of Lark Rise to Candleford where Robert loses his tools (and so the means to feed his family) and is facing destitution and then runs into the young guy who’s in love with his daughter and then uses the moment not to take out all his angst and anger on Fisher but to ask him if he’s ready for all that marriage and staying and giving up his life on the road actually means thus forcing Fisher to admit that he isn’t ready for it—-

#and it’s just so brilliant because we’ve watched Robert suffer so deeply the entire episode #because of how crushing the weight of parental responsibility and poverty can be!!! #and he sees this guy that loves his daughter but has no understanding of the life that that love could and should and will lead him to #if he chooses to stay. this guy who’s just living in the moment and in the feelings of the moment but whose love is not strong enough #to endure the sacrifice that would be required of. well. ordinary married life in a small town! #and Robert uses all his wisdom to force him to admit that he’s not ready for it and doesn’t want it #and then it gets even more brilliant! because after Fisher leaves and Laura is heartbroken and angry #he presents her with the same reality/question but from HER side #her being like ‘how dare you make him not stay’ and Robert being like ‘and did I force you not to go with him?’ #‘were YOU ready to give up your whole life and world for him? to make it work? or did you want your life AND him’ #it’s the have your cake and eat it too truth in this case. their lives didn’t fit together and their love was real in a way #but not real enough to weld their different lives together without both of them hating each other in the end #idk it’s just BRILLIANT and I love it so much #because it unfolds so truthfully and all of the pieces of the story fold into each other so that it a) hits exactly as hard as it should #and b) reveals the truths of things so clearly and so accurately #Robert is so annoying so much of the time but he was a fatherly icon in this ep #lark rise to candleford
