He is a smelly know it all, and that's before you find out he is a deity in disguise who caused the rift you spend the game trying to fix in the first place and he betrayed you and chopped off your hand

Breaks up with you, disappears without saying anything, plans to destroy the world

Look. I’ll admit I have not personally romanced solas. I am baffled that anyone would WANT to romance solas. I know we all love a waify little elf wizard with questionable motivations but jfc look at him like im trying not to say anything demeaning about bald dudes but he does not wear it well. Also iirc you can only romance him if you’re also an elf and then he’s weirdly rude and dismissive if your character is Into Elf Culture. Look im a huge lesbian but Iron Bull is RIGHT FUCKING THERE why would you do this.

well you (the pollrunner) already know cause hes ur icon but i will say that at least he is meant to suck as a romantic partner with only one ending (two if you include astronaut) having him and sol (the player character) staying together on the other end tho there's three ways to start dating him one is to make him go to therapy n then start dating after he is no longer abusing his girlfriend (either breaking them up by convincing him to dump nemmie or convincing nemmie that hes the scumbag he is n she deserves better) another is to be his side piece and the third way is getting him so mad he drags sol off by the neck to beat the shit out of them with this event ending with either him n sol sleeping together (also causing him and nemmie to break up) sol getting the living daylights beat out of them (to the point they got knocked out n needed medical care) with the implicit threat of vace will do this again if they dont stay out of his way and sol avoiding both of those things but being so shaken by the experience that theyre struggling to breath until theyre outside and fully away from him which gives a very different undertone to hooking up with him in this event

the stuff from when i submitted him is entirely from memory so im directly grabbing snippets from the game files this time around (stuff from the game will be in italics like this spoilers for the game btw) starting with if solanaceae is dating vace during the green vertumna ending (warning for abuse cause he is like intentionally written to be abusive)

As the military gains more power under Lum, Vace feels ambivalent over the increased role he's forced take in adjudicating the pointless squabbles of colonists indefinitely trapped in a tin can- more akin to a police officer than a pround defender. This ambivalence turns to bitterness and resentment. He backslides even further during your relationship with him, eventually becoming violent. Your relationship with him ends in a protracted, messy manipulative break-up that occupies the gossip mill for weeks.

this is the only ending where he becomes physically abusive... to solanaceae at least as if you dont break him and nemmie up and dont manage to corral him to therapy this is a piece of his ending card

Vace loves the idea of having a family to protect. Nemmie retires from active duty when they announce that they're expecting their first child... and then second, and their third shortly after that. He and Nemmie are the picture of bliss for years... that is until it all comes crashing down. Vace is your friend, which is probably why you didnt see the cracks until their family was already broken. Nemmie takes the kids and leaves him in the middle of the night, and Vace never really tells you why... but judging from the way people rally around Nemmie so he can't get to her again, you can take a guess.

the snippet if vace does go to therapy isnt much better

You know that Nemmie was never the mothering type, and having kids is tough on her. (<- nemmie has been repeatively establish throughout the game to not want to be a mom and break up with you if you get the prolific parent career) and Sometimes you wonder if they're truly happy together or just... stuck with each other, but at least they've found some peace.

here are the snippets from if you're dating him first if he goes to therapy (good ending?)

Your relationship has its ups and downs. Vace has a lot of unpacking to do, and it takes time. On his worst days, he's just as he was before: quick to anger, and quick to fall back on intimidation tactics to get his way. You're able to see through to the struggling man underneath, but it takes a toll on both of you. You date on-and-off, fighting and making up often. He's never violent or cruel towards you, (sideeyes other endings) but after a while... you just realize you're unhappy. You're both unhappy. Your relationship feels more like an metaphor for his self-improvement than a beautiful thing you share. Eventually you break up for good. [if mem_ending_parent] He says he'll help with the kids... but he doesn't really have the patience for it.

and without it

Your relationship has its dizzy highs, but more than its fair share of horrible lows. You kind of like it though... it keeps things spicy. You've never been happier than when you and Vace are tearing into each other, whether it be on the training mats or in bed. It makes you feel alive. It all comes down when one of Vace's soldier buddies breaks rank and tells you... Vace is doing the same with other people. The fight is cataclysmic. You scream and throw things, but nothing gets through to Vace. Just like how things were between him and Nemmie, he doesn't consider your feelings at all. He's in it for only one person: himself. When word gets out you two are quits for good, Nemmie gloats about it for days.

here are some bits from nemmie's endings that relate to vace as well with them staying together

However... as the years pass, you begin to see cracks form in Nemmie's happy household. Vace's overbearing nature really leaps out when he had her trapped with three of his kids under their roof, insisting he doesn't want his kids to be raised in 'some hippie creche' like Nemmie was. [if mem_vace_therapyComplete] Nemmie is miserable. She tells you about how they fight all the time- about how every day, she's scared that he'll go back to his old habits and things will break bad between them again, but she's so hopeful because she knows Vace is trying his hardest to be a good partner. It doesn't last forever, though. Vace trusts you, (and not his goddamn wife??) and with you on Nemmie's side, you get him to change his mind on the creche. With more time to breathe at home, the Nemmie you love returns. (no therapy version ->) Eventually, their relationship takes a turn for the worst. Nemmie shows her physical wounds on her skin, but it's harder to see the emotional ones. When she flees to your quarters late one night with bruises, you welcome her in and give her all the support you wished you could have given her all those long years she couldn't see.

and if you break them up

Nemmie's relationship with Vace may have been brief, but it was formative. She doesn't throw herself into loving anyone that deeply again for a long time, instead focusing hard on her work. You're by her side during her misadventures in dating some of the other soldiers- and once, notably, Rex- howling with shared indignity and laughter with every awkward breakup.

for a bit more of a spotlight of how specifically formative vace was nemmie's first relationship and she was 16 going on 17 while vace was 20 going on 21 He Is 4 Years Older Than Both Nemmie And Solanaceae And They Are The Only Named Characters He Can Get Romantically Involved With solanaceae and nemmie were 14-15 when he first meets them i dont remember exactly how old cause i havent played the game in almost a year n the files im using rn (endings + vace's character file) dont have that specific info in them but in the game you can click on character portraits to see the info you have about them which includes their actual ages (+ in game birthmonth) in them anyway theres a lot more i can include but its late n this is already long so heres the specific event i was referencing in my submission i'll do this -> (...) <- to indicate that im omitting some lines for length

You're feeling self-destructive today, so you go looking for Vace. He finds you first. CLANG! Vace gets the drop on you, grabbing you around the neck and slamming you into the metal wall. You're dragged unceremoniously into a side room. Vace's hand clamped across your mouth. He throws you to the ground, and you take quick stock of your surroundings. It looks like a munitions room, though it's been mostly empited but for a few stacks of boxes. There's no one here except you and Vace. Vace stands over you, placing his heavy boot on your chest to keep you pinned to the ground. "It's time you and I had a little chat, Solanaceae." (... just two dialogue choices that lead to vace insulting you before continuing) "Here's what's going to happen," Vace says, deadly calm. (... vace explaing that is going to beat you up expects you to lie there n take it n then ->) "And three, you're going to wake up somewhere else knowing that if you ever mouth off to me in front of my men again, next time you aren't going to wake up." (... dialogue option of "screw me yourself, coward." leads to hookup n will break up him n nemmie if you havent already broken them up n then two skill check choices of Stop You Could Kill Me and Stop You Have More To Lose (ie his position n respect from others as a solider) Than I Do leading to the successful release ->) You close your eyes and wair for the blow to land. It doesn't. "Shit," Vace mutters, lowering his hand. He drops you back on the ground and steps away. "Get the hell out of here before I change my mind." You do that, fighting down the nauseating feeling of his eyes burning a hole in your back. It's not until you're back outside and gulping huge breathes of fresh air that you stop trembling.

you can cheat on vace with a nonromantic victim of his btw n you can be in like an actual polycule in this game n attempting to date anyone else while in a monogamous relationship you automatically break up with the other person but you can cheat on vace if you want to cause he sucks so much back onto the event though those are the successful talking options you can also start fighting him back n convince him to fight you fairly (n then also run away immediately if you dont have enough skill for the Kick His Ass dialogue option netting you the same line about taking huge breathes of air to stop trembling) but here's the text for if you lose talking him down

"Please, don't hurt me." "I'm not hurting you," Vace says. "I'm making you stronger." You close your eyes. It doesn't help. As foretold in the prophecy, you awaken in the medbay some time later. Your skull feels like it's full of buzzing blip bugs. One of Congruence's monitors lights up and she slides over to your bedside. "Welcome back," she says in her best attempt at a soothing voice. "Don't be alarmed, it's quite normal to be disoriented after a head injury. How are you feeling?" (... two dialogue choices that only add one word to the following) Congruence whirrs. "Yes, according to the report from Vace, you were in a training accident," she says. "You should use more caution when sparring, Solanaceae. Concussions are not an advised part of a healthy training regimen."

you can get this event at like almost any time it just requires pissing vace off n solanaceae to be 17+ (as vace n nemmie start dating during their 17th birthday party) you might even be able to trigger it while already dating him (would have to test it tho) cause the thing that triggers the event is ~ if mem_fight_vace > 2 and the things you can do to get that number up are like winning at space soccer n then punching him for insulting your friend and winning sparring against him things unrelated to whether or not you're dating him here's some photos i took of the former event when i got it as a treat for reading all of this no one who dates him is getting a good relationship

light novel reread, vol. 2 ch. 6: sword and stress

i LOVE THIS CHAPTER. i love this chapter. i have so much to say but i have no clue how much of it is intelligent whatsoever.

it has what could be one of my favorite yasuda illustrations of all time as the chapter cover. i LOVE him. look at him. i can't believe he isnt more popular. do you guys know about him. has he been posted on tumblr yet. ill post him again as his own post because i love him so fucking much.

this is the first instance of shizuo's point of view. i. cannot stress enough how much i love him.

shizaya people, i get it. this is blatantly homoerotic. my toxic trait is loving when media is unintentionally queercoded. like youre wrote them that way dont get mad at me

i love haruna, honestly. she's kind of a stereotypical yandere side character, but she's also the perfect foil to nasujima.

this chapter does so much for both anri and shizuo. this is my favorite chapter in the 2nd novel, i think.

nasujima is such a scumbag and the fact that he 100% gets what he deserves is just so satisfying. insert mikados rant where hes like "i LIKE happy endings! i LIKE cliches!".

this is a turning point for anri. i like anri a lot, but i feel like i'm going to end up really loving her as she gets some actual development in the novels.

this is the moment that anri accepts herself as a wielder of saika, i think. i really wish i could see this reveal for the first time again.

first of all. sad little wet puppy of a man. i love him so so so fucking dearly. ive said it before but i love shizuo on like. a level amount as i do shinra. i LOVE shizuo. shinras just my blorbo because i have a long standing obsession with very normal looking and pathetic men. another toxic trait im afraid 😔 second of all, im really dissapointed that narita chose to say there was "no one in his vicinity" and make a random homophobic aside about izaya (and not even that they hate each other. that izaya is a man), rather than acknowledge that shizuo already receives love and has people in his life who have already been shown to care about him but currently isnt able to accept it. in the first two novels, it's already been established that he's incredibly close to tom, who's stuck with shizuo since middle school, that him and simon think well of each other despite simon's strong pacifist personality, that he's been friends with shinra since he was like five years old, and that he and celty are each other's best friends, not to mention that his family is supportive and loves him unconditionally, especially kasuka. it's just lazy/bad writing to say shizuo is unlovable and then follow that with a passage about him believing "he wasn't allowed to have love for anyone".

narita: this man is a freak. hes a monster hes unlovable. narita, writing celty immediately after: this freak is SO cool. i fucking love this guy

as president of the shizuo and celty are best friend fanclub, this screenshot is something that can be so precious to me, personally, (its saved on my laptop as badass dude)

narita: everyone is scared of shizuo. theyre too scared to love him narita, writing shizuo: thats stupid! im the one whos scared!

it could be my processing issues, but i feel like this is so much clearer in the novels than the anime.

We see aged up coco n nutts and if they were adults in yes pre ... They wouldnt look the way they do in the show.When you see the comparioan pre and post time skip its obvious that this teen to adult. They grow likw three full heads taller. What eighteen year old growa that much taller..also we see a flashback of coco n nozomi at nozomis high achool n cocos wearing a high school uniform too and doesn't look out of place amongst the high schoolers...

Like otona kept it vaguer than ppl wouldve liked and i understand the teacher part is troubling and sets a bad example for kids and keeping it it otona is a problem. Ok also the age and teacher stuff rlly has ppl not even touching the fairy stuff? She stuffed him into her backpack bc he was annoying. All of the fairies rely on the precure to help them get their kingdom back which puts all of the fairies in a tricky position. Like we know the precures rnt gonna let them down. But like its not a sure thing for the fairies.

Coco was technically her teacher for two years but theres so few classroom scenes in Go!Go! that its easy to forget he was a teacher.

My closing statement is that i understand if you feel like this is too morally dubious and that you disagree with it being in the show at all. And i know i sound like a scumbag going 'here me out' over a talking stuffed animal that turns into and an adult woman who met this stuffed animal when she was fourteen year old. Is anyone else guilty of having 90% of their ocs be wlw or is it just me?

#i know its bad #and i do have plenty of other types of ocs #i have a lot of ocs #i have fucking entire universes stored in my memory #if i could draw id do adoptables because i have so many ocs that i cant fit anywhere #also itd get me money #anyway #i have so many gay couples who i love #i have loads of straight couples i love too but i have more gay ones #i even have poly relationships i love #i just love most of my ocs and the ones i dont are the ones who are scumbags but theyre still interesting #i daydream a lot and its like im watching my own creations #so i am my own biggest fan #i look so dumb reacting to my own scenes playing out even though ive saw them a million times #it might be because of my autism my imagination and ocs are so varied #i mean they all have complex personalities and i can remember them all of the top of my head #i have a list of names but not even half are there and i just read it and im like #oh yes that character with this personality and that apperence and all these scenes and backstory and future and everything #its quite complicated as you can tell but its really fun slipping into my mind and escaping reality for a bit

rn im reading this book where, aside from some other things that Bother me, the author recycled the protag of one of his older series into a side lead character. i only read a short section of that other series but i recognized him right away and i hated it immediately, thats how insufferable a character he is

#tütensuppe #he has a ~grey hair streak shaped like a lightning bolt~ shut UP #this author is also hmmm obsessed with the concept of pure evil #i loved his books growing up and i read a LOT of them but it just doesnt hold up.#other character archetype i Despise is the protag who thinks theyre oh so smart and such an amazing person #but they constantly fuck everything up and they dont learn At All #imo you CAN make this work but when played straight its the most annoying thing #id rather have the protag be a complete crook as long as hes fun to follow along.#or a while ago i read something where the protag has some unusual abilities and knowledge that make you go ??? plot armor??#nope turns out he used to be one of the big bads who one day got bored of being a scumbag #left everything behind and slowly became a better person without telling anyone.

Bro got overshadowed and is hardly there for his own damn route lmao

Instead of getting therapy to cope with the guilt of mistreating his deaf mother who died for him, he got into a romance with an infatuated fan of his work, proposing to her within months as she became increasingly more unstable to the point of starting a cult. Additionally, he smuggles a pair of endangered twin boys from their abusive household into a shady overseas agency while his cult-creating girlfriend took the other. He does not call the cops on her. He does not talk to his rich best friend about better options for the twins. He instead lies to everyone and says his gf committed suicide which allows her cult to grow and she brainwashes several people. He knows about every bullshit thing going on in the background and he chooses to say/do nothing. He just mopes, says sorry (without changing anything) and keeps making a martyr of himself with persistently bad decisions while keeping everyone in the dark, despite the danger it causes. Bonus: his own route was so bad, he barely spent time conscious with the MC and then eventually fucks off to 'find himself' or some shit, leaving one twin to commit suicide. His after end took so long because the writers had to amend these actions so he could at least take responsibility for one thing (saving the Fandom woobie). He does not actually interact with the MC until damn near the end point and then there is a timeskip where they adopt a kid.

Has just gotten out of shitty prev relationship, needs a therapist not a gf.

he lies to you from the moment he meets you (just like he's lying to most people you meet in the game who are also his loved ones) about a lot of things including what happened to his ex (whose suffering can be at least partially attributed to him). also i just hate him.

SO you've watched Les Miserable (2012) and/or have seen a production of Les Miserable and youre really interested but also intimidated by the shear amount of content

I should be writing a 4 page paper about Socrates but instead i am here. This will be my humble attempt at creating an introductory pamphlet for the Les Mis fandom lol

disclaimer: I have not read the book by victor hugo (also referred to as the Brick) and almost everything here is from my own personal experience and perspective. this is not intended to be a definitive guide to Les Mis, just a stepping stone from the source material (Book/Movie/Musical/etc) to the fandom lol

Barricade Boys:

Enjolras- leader in red, is always either really short or really tall, gorgeous, played by Aaron Tveit

Grantaire- cynic in green, often drunk and/or acting drunk, played by George Blagden

Combeferre- Enjolras's right hand, considered the brains of the group, likes moths, played by Killian Donnelly

Courfeyrac- Enjolras's left hand, very charming and compassionate, will glitterbomb his friends, played by Fra Fee

Joly- uses a cane, hypochondriac but also a med student of some kind, likes dinosaurs (idk where i saw that but its cemented in my mind), played by Hugh Skinner

Bosseut/L'Aigle de Meaux/Lesgles/Laigle- man has many names, very unlucky, very bald (not in the movie tho), played by Stuart Neal

Musichetta- not in the movie, owns/works at the Cafe Musain (where the barricade boys aka Les Amis de l’ABC have their meetings)

Feuilly- usually portrayed as a ginger, working class/makes fans for a living, the only amis who isn't a student, played by Gabriel Vick

Bahorel- loves to fight, knows EVERYONE no matter where he goes, played by Iwan Lewis

Jehan/Jean Prouvaire- youngest amis, likes poetry and usually portrayed with long hair, played by Alistair Brammer

Montparnasse- not technically barricade boy but often mentioned in fics, part of Patron Minette (the gang Eponine and her family run/are a part of), very stylish, either a sleazeball scumbag or a bad boy with a heart of gold

Common Relationships:

Enjolras/Grantaire- the most famous/impactful/popular ship, so much content, basically canon (“Grantaire admired, loved, and venerated Enjolras”) also they died holding hands

Valjean/Javert- also pretty popular, not my cup of tea but if you like DILFS+enemies to lovers this is the ship for you

Bosseut/Joly/Musichetta- one of my personal favs, also basically canon (Joly and Bosseut “lived together, ate together, slept together. They had everything in common, even Musichetta, to some extent.”)

Combeferre, Courfeyrac, and Enjolras- best friends, tight circle, founders of the Les Amis de l’ABC, referred to in the brick as the Chief (E), the Guide (Ferre), and the Center (Courf)

Combeferre/Courfeyrac- best friends to lovers and/or childhood friends to lovers

Courfeyrac/Marius- supported by canon a bit (courf was marius’s first friend)

Marius/Cosette- canon, bi wife energy

Cosette/Eponine- if youre into flower shop/tattoo shop aus this is the ship for you

Feuilly/Bahorel- established relationship in majority of fics but not a ton of content focused on just them unfortunately

Jehan/Montparnasse- the grumpy one loves the sunshine one

Eponine/Combeferre- kind of a rare pair but its a guilty pleasure so i had to rep, i just love the idea of Eponine being loved unconditionally by a man who will never manipulate or judge her

Ok so the les mis fandom has a lot of modern au and reincarnation au fics just in general. these are a few of my favorite fics that ive read and have stuck with me over time! all of them are from ao3.

Bring a Torch by fraternite- It's Winter Break and so, of course, all the students are home with their families, celebrating the holidays. Except for the ones that can't. Some aren't able to travel home to be with their families; others wouldn't spend the holiday with their families if you paid them a million dollars. Some aren't welcome at home anymore. Some have no home to go to.

A handful of these students connect when an ice storm knocks out the power. And they find that they are not as alone as they thought.

An origin story of sorts for the Amis.

(If youre new here and looking for fic, i 100% recommend starting here. this is a modern/college au that has been my favorite les mis fic since the ninth grade and i reread it every winter break.)

Lovesickness by idiopathicsmile- Enjolras swallowed. "I didn't know he had tattoos on his back."

"Yeah," said Joly, shrugging. "I mean, he lives with me and before about noon, he's allergic to shirts—"

"Why—" said Enjolras weakly.

"I always figured he had a bad shirt experience," Joly offered. "Shirts killed his family, or his first dog got hit by a truck full of shirts."

Enjolras shook his head. His face was a little flushed.

"Ooh, are you experiencing symptoms?" said Joly, brightening. "What's your pulse doing? Are you breathing normally? How do your glands feel?"

Inspired in part by tumblr user feferi's post here, specifically: "i am in love with the idea that enjolras is so baffled by his own emotions towards grantaire that he legitimately cannot tell if he has heartburn or stomach butterflies"

Modern AU. Joly is a gentleman, a scholar, a med student—and, when need be, a matchmaker. And oh, the need is definitely being.

Semantics by telm_393- Marius isn't exactly sure what to do with himself when he leaves home, but, to be fair, he's not sure what to do with himself most of the time. Meeting Courfeyrac and the Amis is probably the best thing that's ever happened to him. And then he meets Cosette.

(Or: Marius is autistic, Gillenormand didn't know how to raise him, Courfeyrac and Cosette are good people, and apparently you don't have to stick with the family you were born with. You can make one.)

sleep, and dream of me- Grantaire dreams about gunfire, and fingers twined warmly with his own, and he paints and he paints yet can never get the images out of his head. Images of a blond man, always surrounded by red – red jacket, red flags, red blood – who shines like the sun and calls to Grantaire like a siren.

For days, this goes on; this… fixation on this man he’s never met, never seen; these flashbacks of memories he hasn’t lived. And then he runs into a man whose blond hair shines golden in the sunlight and who stares at Grantaire with a slack jaw and wide eyes and who says haltingly, “I… I know you.”

Words Never Spoken by StrawberryBubbles- At the age of eighteen the first words your soul mate will ever say to you appear etched into your skin, they stay there forever and it means everyone always knows who their soul mate is the second they exchange their first spoken words. Everyone except Enjolras. When he turned eighteen there was nothing, not a word, not even a letter. But it’s been four years, he’s adjusted, he’s accepted the fact that he doesn’t have a soul mate, won’t ever meet the love of his life, and he is fine with that. Until he meets Grantaire. Inspired by a tumblr post.

Thoughts of Flight by lenaballena - What's wrong. What isn't wrong?

They can't find Gavroche, Musichetta can't fit into her dress anymore, Marius was picking up Eponine's dress and got lost and possibly arrested (they're still trying to decipher his texts) there's a crazy woman who claims to be family of the bride harassing security and trying to gain access to the wedding, and Feuilly just punched one of Combeferre's cousins. Twice. She can't find Grantaire, and hasn't seen Enjolras either, which means both Eponine and Combeferre's best men are tearing into eachother somewhere, and if it's the sexy kind of tearing she's going to kill Grantaire, and if it's not she's absolutely going to murder Enjolras because their best friends get one special day and dammit he is not going to ruin it because Grantaire doesn't drink free trade coffee.

Oh, and Jehan doesn't like the flowers.
