Was waiting until ep 4 to ask but for the character opinion bingo thingymajiggy could you do bon (the spirit/evil murder robot ) if you haven't already
Tumblr media
Oh my god, Bon. I love Bon so much. I'm so glad that I love Bon so much.
Bon, the animatronic rabbit, has over the course of the couple last years become one of my favorite characters. At this point, he's right up there with Jenny and Sophie. So when we first got that Findjackwalten "Bon" reveal, I was very... apprehensive? For me it was just really underwhelming. I honestly think my biggest complaint was just that, aesthetically, he was so much more boring than Bon, the animatronic rabbit. I love Bon. What I didn't love was this like, clip art character. He was just a guy? Like a human guy? He didn't even look fun. There was so little there to sell me on the idea of Bon as a character. It's funny, though, since I really think part of what frustrated me was that the part that made Bon an Evil Killer was divorced from him being a rabbit. Which is a really silly thing to say, but I just honestly hadn't expected there to be any 'form' of Bon that came aesthetically separate from the mystique of the rabbit animatronic. And I love rabbits, they're my favorite animals. (Well, hares are, really. But rabbits get to share the love.) So it was a very petty kind of upset.
But oh my god, seeing "Bon" in this episode has totally turned me around. Like wow, he is fun! He is aesthetically interesting! Which is why I've written that 'so relieved' point on top of the one that usually says 'wasted potential'. I'd had an idea in my mind of what "Bon" would be since we saw that "Bon" text on Findjackwalten in fucking January of 2022. That's a lot of time to stew in your thoughts. If "Bon" ended up being something I wasn't happy with, I was gonna be really disappointed. But I wasn't!
It's been really fun learning to attribute some of my favorite aspects of Bon, the killer animatronic, to "Bon", the white ghost, because they are effectively the same. I can't help but find him really cute, honestly? I love his girlish mannerisms. I love his penchant for.. Fashion? I say this remembering one of the old entries on the Martin's Secret Lair findjackwalten page. His love of music? Y'know, obviously he kills people and is evil and manipulative. But he does it cutely. Definitely the rabbit aspect is doing something to endear me.
Beyond that purely emotional endearment, I'm genuinely very interested in him as a character as well... It's a little hard to talk about, though, since my feelings are so new and so poorly thought-out, honestly. But something I've been thinking about for a while is his relationship with Rosemary... From how I see it, he seems to have a strange sort of infatuation with her. He calls her Rosie... he puts her in Sha... Less objectively, his little shrine to her in Souvenir seems very elaborate to me, at least relatively. And assuming the "Rose broken. Will fix you" dialogue is diegetic and we're meant to think that Bon spoke to Rose before killing her... Well, it's just very interesting to me that he seemed to try to explain to her what was going on. It's really fucked, honestly, and it's something I'd really like to know more about. His conversation with Susan in 4 makes me think his criteria for killing people has at least something to do with, like, whether or not he likes someone. Really really fucked and really, really interesting.
God there's really so much to say about Bon... But I'm nervous too, since I don't really know how well I can articulate what I feel. It feels a little like there's warring factions in me, between the Me that thinks the animatronic serial killer is so Silly Cutesy and Me that's really horrified by and invested in the Lore and Context behind everything that Bon, as a character and narrative force, is actually doing. Not that those feelings necessarily can't coexist. The way he talks to Susan is so unsettling to me... it's strangely tender, honestly. Like a genuine attempt for comfort, despite the context. I feel like I have a million little half-observations to make, but none of them amount to a full thought. Bon is really fucked! I'm so happy that I find him actually really cool and interesting! I want to take him clothes shopping and feed him Tchaikovsky records. Martin said he liked Classical music but I think that's. well not Wrong but inarticulate. I think he's a Romantic girl. He loves some Beethoven. Some Liszt. whjat am i even saying anymore

ok, i'm game now Some theories and predictions after episode 4: -it is too often implied that the murderer is a woman, so i'm pretty sure that the murderer is a man. My top of suspects at the moment is something like: 1. Cliff, with his mother aware of his crime and covering him (i'm not sure whether it's a great addition to the whole parend-child storyline or a bit hackneyed as it has some parallels with Teddy&Theo story). May had an affair with Ben, may commit it to impress his mother and create something his own *Donna killing Ben in order to protect her son is also more than possible, it ruins the idea of "the say it's a woman so it's a man", but quite fits 2. Dickie - (crime of passion because of Ben eating cookies) any reason??? 3. Jonathan. Well, he was his understudy, sounds like a motive. OR maybe he tried to kill him for the first time, but he wasn't his killer after all 4. Tobert. Well, I think that they won't do the main hero's love interest the killer again, but if they do, he is kinda creepy and it's more likely to be him than Joy (who has already became a prime suspect) or Loretta Howard is cute in his own strange way, i don't believe it's Howard -The person who poisoned him and the person who was the reason he fell into the elevator shaft are two different people???? -I 1000% agree with the theory that Ben was speaking to cookies -In the first season it was Mabel's childhood friend who was killed and the story from their past, in the 2nd season Charles' father was on the painting, so the mystery is somehow connected to Oliver's past as he's already portrayed as the leading part in this season (but maybe his previous theatrical failures and his worries about the show is already such point, still there will be more flashbacks) -Poor Oliver will have a heart attack at the most inappropriate moment, probably in front of Mabel and Charles, making them, Will and all of us experience our own heart attack. Probably as a cliffhanger. I think in the episode 7 or 8. He lives, of course, but I'm ready to cry my eyes out -And creates the idea of final banger of the show (or thinks about killer's identity. or both) during clinical death. In the episode with his narration and some flashbacks. Creates another chaotic masterpiece and continues his work on the show almost immediately. Maybe agrees (with the face full of sorrow and whining) to quit dips if Will asks but never gives up on show and investigation. Then constantly boasts about his "death" like one of his acquaintances and says Ben beaten him. It's the most Oliver Putnam thing ever -I HATE the theory of Charles murdering Ben being in the white room and I'm sure it won't be true BUT this theory may be mentioned in the show. Like they'll finally find out it's not true, but suspect it at some point, Charles is not sure if he actually hasn't kill Ben, and maybe it will in some way be the thing that triggers Oliver's heart attack???? -I actually like the theory of Loretta being Dickie's mother, especially after the look he gave her at Look for the light. She's not a murderer, but the prime suspect for one or two episodes -Joy is also obviously pretty innocent, but Charles and her break up -Final episode will be more like season 2 than season 1: the true murder will be revealed only in the last ep. during another scene with Poirot-like false accusations. According to the trailer, with detective Williams there in the theatre, but maybe this takes place a bit earlier and the true killer revealed in another scene -Murderer reveal party is paralleled to and shown together with the episodes from the musical -This Mabel's wedding scene is either season 4 flashforward or staging used to reveal the murderer. I'd like to see the Theo as at least fake husband, but i think it will be Tobert. MAYBE the wedding will be aimed to expose Tobert himself, but I still believe he's too obvious to be the killer -Oliver and Loretta break up, but on a happy note grateful to each other, and Loretta finally goes to "take Hollywood by storm" after the show
(and Oliver and Charles end up together) -Mabel finishes podcast and then takes Cinda's job offer and moves out, still mantaining cute relationship with her old boys well it was a lot….

IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED EP 1, SCROLL NOW.
Live action review -
One Piece: Romance Dawn
Episode one of the One piece live action... This is only my opinions and views, if you aren't interested in that then cool but I need somewhere to talk. This will be bullet points.
Introduction with Roger's execution and a narrator? A fantastic choice
Roger's casting is actually spot on though?? Why were people complaining he's great for the role, Roger is in his 50s here are you he's sick of course he's not gonna be a super model but he's still stoic looking and I like it
Scottish Garp I shouldn't expect anything less (if they ever get to Sabaody I hope Kidd and Killer are Scottish too lmao)
I like that you can see who's in the crowd too because for the anime/manga people it's like a lil treat (Dragon I see you stop hiding)
Iñaki is perfect. I don't think anyone else would have suited Luffy more, the more the episode continued the more convinced I became
Line delivery is... It could be improved. It's quite theatrical? Like stage place or musical type acting sometimes. Maybe it's what they were going for I don't know, I don't hate it but it made me pause for a few moments because I get really bad second hand embarrassment
Coby and Luffy moments are great, they're dynamic and it's a lovely relationship they have going and you can tell the actors work well together
Shanks and his crew? Absolutely phenomenal. Peter Gadiot is perfect but the trailer did him dirty. My only complaint is I don't think Benn's casting was the best, sorry to the actor but he just doesn't fit quite like the others.
Baby Luffy... Oh my heart is melting
Zoro's intro and choreography was great, lil hint to Baroque Works if we get a S2 hehehe
Nami slayed as per usual, trust in Emily is at it's peak. She isn't just playing Nami, she is Nami
"No, more is better. More is better". I'm sold.
Zoro lugging around the severed torso of Mr 7.
Again, great bar fight scene. I got some second hand embarrassment again from the line delivery but I recover fast and move on
Morgans is... Yh he's there.
Omg they're looking at the sky together, they're such sweeties I'm kicking my legs
Zoro and Luffy's lil talk is so on brand
Nami absolutely eating up every single one of her scenes yet again
Emily and Iñaki work so well omggg
I DIDN'T NEED TO SEE THAT MF BUTT ASS NAKED PLEASE GIVE ME A WARNING MY GOD.
The courtyard fight scene. The courtyard fight scene. Great direction, it's smooth and really well done.
If I'm repulsed when an antagonist has come onto screen then you know they've done the job right.
Coby slayed.
Jeepers creepers those snail phones make me flinch. Anyway, Garp and Bogard eeeee. I just know the Tiktok Bogard guy is happy.
BUGGY!? THE POSE!? THE BUILD UP AND SUSPENCE!? THE MUSIC!? THE SLUTTY LEGS ON THE CHAIR AND HEAD IN THE PALM!? THE VOICE!?
Honestly, 200/10 casting for him and Cabaji
In my most honest opinion, this episode was good. It wasn't the greatest, there's definitely more to come and it's a lovely scene setter and build up. The cast are great, I have a few comments about how they've been directed to deliver lines because it's honestly not the best.
The CGI even now, where there wasn't much needed, is really promising. My favourites so far? Definitely Shanks, Luffy (both mini and big) and Nami. They honestly made the first episode for me. It's got the fun feel of the show, and for a live action it's quite good. I do agree it's not to everyone's taste, my brother watched one scene and didn't like it but that's because he's a skeptic. I have high hopes, let's just hope incels and chronically online shit wipes don't ruin this for me or others... Don't listen to them, it's worth a watch.

This Week In BL - October Is Looking Chunky
Sept 2022 Wk 5
Happy fall everyone!
Being a highly subjective assessment of one tiny corner of the interwebs. Organized by which ones (in each category) I’m enjoying the most.
Tumblr media
Ongoing Series - Thai
The Eclipse (Fri YT) Ep 8 of 15 - The pacing is starting to feel off and I am getting frustrated with the plot. That said, K is such a killer actor. And Aye is so damn pushy but with emotions as well a physical affection, he exposes his own vulnerability as a kind of benevolent attack on Akk to instill trust and worth and value and safety. Akk is just so scared and closeted. This whole narrative is less about love than it is about courage. Whether that is courage to live or courage to love.
Vice Versa (Sat on YT) Ep 12fin - They are very cute and domestic boyfriends, and I realize GMMTV often does domesticity with their couples in the final episode. I’m thinking about the fantastic final ep of Dark Blue Kiss. “Celebrity coming out for love” is very Love Stage!!  Interesting that they advertised Not Me at the end, does that mean we have no new BL in this time slot from GMMTV next week? Curious choice they still have 4 more from their 2022 lineup.* I half expected the high school one.
So what do I have to say about Vice Versa?
It’s a solid BL with a weak plot but a strong concept. It’s very well acted and Jimmy remains the most charismatic talent that GMMTV currently fields. I hope we get more of this pair, either together or separated. That said, this is never going to be one of my top rewatch rotations, so I’m calling it for an 8/10. RECOMMENDED
Tumblr media
My Only 12% (Fri iQIYI) Ep 8 of 15 - Oh goody more pain. Look I like the noona romance thread. It’s obvious she had to break his heart, it’s what I would’ve done, it’s what Minato should have done. But it was still sad to watch. This is a well cast show. Sniffling at the end of this ep. Looking forward to seeing Siew come into his own and Cake crumble while they are apart.
Ai Long Nhai (Mon iQIYI) Ep 1 of 10 - Words cannot adequately describe how much I dislike the credit sequence and music on this show. I nearly DNFed before a single line was spoken. The subs are also not good, but my Thai is getting better so I don’t mind as much as I once did. The show leads us out with: Slow motion + instalove + tons of familiar faces + some very terrible sound effects. Pretty much standard pulp territory. Despite all this, I actually kinda like it and they are so pretty. A rare sunshine/sunshine pairing! Nhai is an adorable idiot and Ai is confident king and I’m chortling away. Also GAY DADS played by IRL husbands Arm & Porsch! We’re good here, I’m happy.
Work from Heart (Thurs YouTube) Ep 2 of 7 - Cute ex boyfriends. Thank god for uniforms. But now evil ex is overly aggressive. I’m getting Check Out vibes and that’s not a good thing. I love the tattooed actor who plays Guy, I wish he’d get more roles. I loved him in Ingredients too.
Love in the Air (Thurs iQIYI) Ep 7 of 13 - It was a fine ending to the first couple and a good (if audio dubious) start to the second. I made more puns in the DUMPSTER FIRE TRASH WATCH ALONG HERE.
Fahlanruk (Sun GaGa) 3 of 12 - And now identical twins? SERIOUSLY?  The show sucks so bad. The story of 2 players never runs deep. Absolutely nothing happened this episode. I might drop this one.
* GMMTV’s remaining 2022 BL line up is:
My School President - which I expected to be in VV’s time slot.
Moonlight Chicken - EarthMix’s next one, probably what they are working on next
Be My Favorite - recasting
Never Let Me Go - filming now (assuming this will take on Eclipse’s time slot)
Tumblr media
Ongoing Series - Not Thai
Takara-kun and Amagi-kun (Japan Thurs GaGa & Viki) 6 of 8 - This is my favorite BL currently airing BY A LANDSLIDE. 24 minutes of pure agony and joy. It just makes me so happy but it’s also so high school angst and traumatic to live through. This is the best of Japanese BL, I keep getting a feel of Seven Days off it and I don’t mention that comparison lightly. Takara is SO CORNEY. Also. THAT ENDING. Yes. Exposed! No more secrets! Squee! I can’t wait to see what happens next week.
Once Again (Korea Fri GaGa) 5-6 of 8 - This show. I swear it’s so in the throat creepy and tense (in a Kassandra the mad prophet way) but also weirdly sweet. Poor Ji Hoon, he’s such a nice guy in a world just has a in for him one way or another. I’m glad both actors are so good since it’s the whole reason to watch this. I’ve no idea how they are going to manage to resolve it, but it looks like we get a cute date next ep!
Tumblr media
It’s Airing But I’m Not Watching It
War of Y - too hard on my soul. Will I watch it eventually? Maybe? Probably not. I think we have an ITSAY situation going on here. Also BL Express was not best pleased, and I while we rarely share taste, in this instance I trust their reporting.
My Tempo - a Thai BL movie about the Thai music industry. Yeah, no thank you.
Oh My Sunshine Night - I’m scared it’s gonna be sad, so I’m waiting for spies to tell me it’s safe
180 Degree Longitude Passes Through Us - ditto above
Tumblr media
In Case You Missed It
More Than Words (Japan indie subbed by furritsubs) - TIP ‘EM if you like em!)  All the eps have dropped, so I binged it. Basically the definition of moody arthouse smackdoodle. Makki is an outgoing but mysterious boy with secret pain. Eiji is the an older gay boy struggling with identity. Mieko is a broken angry girl who both makes them work as a couple and aches to belong with them. This is a story about all 3 and their complicated interweaving relationship. It’s about love and intimacy in all its many faceted forms. This is not, and I'm being very clear here, a romance. In fact this is not a romantic show in any way. It’s poetic, sad, and wistful. Is it beautiful and a little lovely? Yes. Did I like it? No. For BL stans like me? NOT RECOMMENDED. For the ITSAY and YNEH folks... have at. BL Express likes this kind of thing and did a great review.
Zero Supporter featuring EarthMix in their KornWin roles dropped. Look these two are just so cute together. They aren’t as good at this premise as OffGun were in Our Skyy, tho. Still, ultimately, I like this special better than the original Cupid’s Last Wish.
NetJames (forthcoming BL Bed Friend) portray a BL side couple in Thai drama Catch Me Baby starting Oct 6 on WeTV.
Semantic Error won Best Couple at the APAN Star Awards 2022. And Jaechan won the Popularity Award.
Tumblr media
Gossip
Thai casting call went out for the world’s first omegaverse BL Midnight Fortune. Twitter went as pearl-clutchingly hysterical over it as we might expect. It's not my thing personally and I doubt I will like it (frankly I doubt it'll be very good, either, the plot looks like it was written by MAME & Jittirain) but you better believe I will dumpster fire trash watch this SO HARD if it airs. It's about time Thai BL started to get seriously experimental in its cinemagraphic life cycle. It will be gloriously whackdoodle. I did have it down for Japan first, Thailand is so plucky!
Next Week Looks Like This:
Tumblr media
Starting: Mon: To Sir With Love AKA Khun Chai - Thai (10 eps 40 min ea) on One31HD & possibly WeTV. Kabe Koji - Japan (10 eps 20 min ea) on Viki.  Weds: Ghost Host, Ghost House - Thai (5 eps 30 min? ea) YouTube for reruns. Sat: Big Dragon - Thai (8 ep 40 min ea) reruns on Star Hunter’s YT. Sun: Remember Me - Thai (8 ep 40 min ea) Gaga.
FULL October 2022 line up is here.
This week’s best moments?
Tumblr media
Fucking awesome Takara.
Tumblr media
This year’s Namgoong Award for BEST WINGMAN goes to Katori in Takara & Amagi. He’s glorious.
Tumblr media

Maybe if I type this real slow it will be time for Show Now...
I'm lowkey terrified.
The episode title is Mermen. I didn't know that. Okay....WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?
Yeah that was always going to be how that went.
Okay but like, can we appreciate this show, because what I'm so nervous about is essentially like the state of a man's psyche and how he resolves his trauma. Like, god Ed has to accept himself as a killer, honestly, without letting it tear himself apart, because tbh there is no getting out.
God I forgot we hadn't gotten that scene of Ed coming out of the waves yet. With the gravy basket and him waking up on the beach I forgot about it.
OMG Izzy's full speech...I'm gonna cry.
It's not the letter from ep 1 it's a more romantic one, omg I'm gonna die!1
So it's uh conforming to the opening scene. AH kiss!! Ah.
Okay my reaction just then is why no one can watch these eps with me. No one gets to see me this deranged. Not even my life partner of 25 years.
It was incredible babe!
Um, gratuitous man ass... god everyone run an tell everyone we see ass in this episode and let them freak out.
Had to go back and look up the song Al Stewart "Roads to Moscow"
Did Izzy just get shot? Is he really gonna die? I wish they would have shown it so I could tink it was a fakeout.
Fuck
That was a fucking MARVEL of a scene and it hurt so much and I'm sorry for a lot of people who are going to be very upset. I mean, I'm not happy.
I'm going to have to think about this a lot to get at how i feel about it because I am very torn.
You can't take us straight into a FUCKING WEDDING, WTF. Okay second cider time.
Fuck it's OVER. Already.
PHEW.
Who is doing this version? Of course it's not in the credits.
Okay okay thoughts....it was WAY rushed. I didn't realize they'd won when they'd apparently won?
Wait like, so it was join forces to kill this guy, then we're doing a wedding, then we're innkeepers. Like they didn't do the part where they joined forces to kill taht guy.
The fuck honestly.
Well I stand by what I said a week ago, this season was robbed of two episodes and a good amount of budget and it shows. Pacing was off, rushed, and ending unsatisfying.
so it feels like what they did was just stop mid-episode and give us an ending that would be SOMETHING if they don't get S3.
Which I can appreciate the pressure they are under in that regard.
I'm sad about Izzy. I feel like this show could have done that entire scene and then have him pull through actually. I'm sure many a fanfic will do that.
I definitely feel like this is not how or where they intended to end the story, so I hope they get a S3 and actually tie up things.
I have more to say, but I'm gonna do it in another post, one of my famous brain dump post-episode meta posts. (Now with alcohol!)
My tank top is SOAKED THROUGH with sweat.

Riverdale, Ep. 7x05 - Tales in a Jugular Vain (spoilers)
Like last week, I had to take a break before I wrote this. Unlike last week, it's for a good reason. I'm going to be honest, the first fifteen minutes of this episode...I thought I was going to hate it. But this might be the best episode of Riverdale in a long time. And I think it should be mentioned, this episode literally ends with a to be continued; so the ending of the episode isn't the ending at all. Far from it.
So, I'm going to do this a little bit differently. I'm not really going to go into the four stories Jughead wrote (rather I'm not going to spend time writing about what they were about). They're clearly going for a Tales From the Crypt Vibe (although John Water's seems to get mixed in by story three). I didn't like the first two stories. I thought the third was pretty good. And I loved the fourth one.
Riverdale finally did the classic Archie story. Betty and Veronica fight over Archie as he strings them along. Then, they see him with another woman. But do they let him sting them along like in the comics? Fuck no. They dug his coffee and cut him in two (and it is the best scene ever. Betty and Veronica are just so happy). And, yes, there is some misogynistic tones in this story (ok a lot and in three of the stories). This is something I will get to in a minute. Just...I've always hated the love triangle and, to me, this was the best way it could end. So, just let me have my happy moment.
So there are two things going on in this episode which, and I cannot express this enough, ends with a cliffhanger. The first is the very real history of comics in the 1950s; how they we're seen a threat to the "very decency" of the American way. That their stories are corrupting the youth; even though, as Jughead says, many of them were morality tales. But, even if they weren't, it's the age old story of blaming something for the issues in society instead of dealing with the issues of society (Or in this case, the psychologist says that comics are to blame for the death of Ethel's parents and they should be focusing on punishing the writers instead of, you know, actually finding the killer). And so, the psychologist is going to go on a crusade against the writers. And who's name is about to pop up on a list...well, one Mr. Jughead Jones. I wondered if he would end up in the Sister's and I have a feeling that may be the case. So, let's be clear, this episode touched on the whole Comics Code and the complicated history...but the point wasn't to deal with it in this episode; it's to set up for whatever happens to Jughead next. And, as strange as it is to write, I actually do have a feeling this might be the one topic Roberto may actually have a bit of knowledge on.
What the episode mostly focuses on, or the parts between the stories, is Jughead and Veronica. Veronica comes over and is hoping for a date with Jughead. However, she finds out he has a deadline to write four short stories. But, she's very supportive and asks him to tell her the stories. As he goes on, and as it becomes clear that he has used the people he knows in these stories, Veronica finds herself less enamored with him. She even points out that, the way he writes his female characters, is...gross. It is misogynistic. And so she leaves and that's the end of Jeronica. And, at first, it seems like we have another moment were we have the writers using the characters to call out the things that the fans have been complaining that the writers do (kind of like the Pussycat episode in season 5). Here's the thing...that's not completely inaccurate; but it's not what's completely happening here. When Jughead is confronted by Veronica about the way he has portrayed the people he knows as these...well, they're very unflattering views; Jughead gets defensive. He says their just stories. Later, Jughead tells his publisher that Veronica just didn't get his vision. And the thing is...this isn't new (well, the misogyny is new, but not the complaints). We have seen this since season 2. Jughead decides to use Toni's grandfather's story without his permission. He uses Betty's trauma as a way to keep a book contract. Apparently he really mischaracterizes the Serpents in his book (although we don't know exactly how). Hell, it can't be denied that Jessica might actually have stolen his story because she's afraid of what he's written (he does have a history). That fact is that Jughead Jones has never learned two things about writing. While it is true writers write what they know; good writers know not to mischaracterize their friends and, most importantly, good writers know that just because they are a part of a story, that doesn't automatically mean that it's their fucking story to tell. The writers have touched on this for years and never really dealt with it.
It seems like that writers are setting up for a really interesting juxtaposition here (if they can pull it off. Big if). On the one hand, we are dealing with this fascist belief that anything outside of what people considered the norm must be condemned and punished. On the other hand, we have a writer (Jughead) that doesn't understand that, while everyone should have the freedom to write without punishment, that doesn't mean that...how to put this, people have a right to be upset. Not everybody's going to like you write. And people have the right to be upset when you use them in an unfairly flattering light or use their story without their permission (or go off on tangents that make no fucking sense. Oh, and straight up lie). Now, whatever is about to happen to Jughead will far exceed what Jughead deserves (again, he doesn't deserve punishment; just needs someone to hit him with the brick of truth and tell him exactly how his writing has been hurting others). IF this is where there going (and IF they can pull this off...I really don't know if they can); this is an interesting debate. How do we make a society where writers are not punished for holding beliefs or writing things that others may considered outside the "norm," but still holding writers accountable for when their writings do harm others? And to what degree? (Because there's different levels of harm. There's what Jughead has done in the past and then there's JK Rowling). Look, the rest of the 1950s plots can jump off a cliff. But if the writers actually are dealing with censorship and Jughead's lack of self-censorship; I may not end up hating this season after all.

KIM I HAVE IMPORTANT QUESTIONS!
are you sure after the storms end alicent will behave "I raised you better than that" to aemond? i think she will wonder where aemond got this bloodthirst from because neither she nor viserys were like this. listen, i love alicent but she has misconceptions about her children. just like dumbledore said to snape regarding harry. you see what you want to see. the thing is alicent overlooks aegon good traits like cunning (he convinced people living for years at dragonstone to follow him without bloodshed so itmeans he convinced them. My headcanon is: aegon is far more diplomatic than aemond even though aemond brags about studying history and philosophy so one can expect aemond to be more polished, diplomatic, but guess what all his knowledge goes out of the window when he's angry) and resourceful while she is too preoccupied with aemond not causing problems compared to aegon that she paints aemond as some sort of golden child. this, and aemond actually never comes back. aegon does. alicent was so wrong about both of her children. had alicent really understood aemond she would have never loved him because he represents everything she despises thirst for blood, war, violence. had she really understood aegon she would have truly loved him because they are very similar doing their duty and fighting till the end. alicent never understood her children. that's all. she was stuck up in childlish fantasies about both of them. she is relatable tho many parents in modern world categorise children like: obedient-good, rebellious-bad and distribute their love accordingly. it's really weird how parents are legit psychos about their children being obedient. alicent is not alone in this. relatable, but still toxic as hell.
hello! ok let me think - i'm not sure what the question is here but i do not believe alicent is in denial about who her children are or who they grow to become. she is fully aware.
for example alicent knows what aegon is. we see it in episode 8. then by ep 9 alicent steps in front of a dragon for him. crowns him. advises him. to quote cersei "you'll do things for them that you know you shouldn't do. you'll act the fool to make them happy, to keep them safe. love no one but your children. on that front, a mother has no choice" or olivia cooke's "i love the bones of you" interview about aegon. this is all alicent hightower exactly.
so when storm's end happens i believe alicent can see in that moment, truly, that aemond is turning into a cold blooded killer and it scares her. he scares her. but she can do nothing regardless but hope and pray that the son she raised and loves will return and save them all. what choice does she have?

Noir 2001 Ep. 11-18 Thoughs
Tumblr media
This is around the time when Noir's plot starts to pick up.
Some general things first:
The sountrack of Noir is really damn good. I wanted to listen to is some more so I searched it up on Youtube. Turns out it's composed by Yuki Kajiura, which is a name I instantly recognized because she is responsible for the soundtrack of Madoka Magica, one of my favourite anime soundtracks ever. Explains the pmmm vibes I got for sure.
I will say though, she did improve between the osts. I like the Noir soundtrack a lot but there are a few janky bits the pmmm ost doesn't struggle with.
I had a lot of fun watching these episodes, the plot is interesting and the more "episodic" segments don't feel jarring to watch. I'm starting to like Kirika and Mireille a lot.
But the biggest reason for my interest is Chloe. I can't explain why, she doesn't get to do much yet. I dunno, she is just really charming to me.
Onto the episode by episode notes:
Ep. 11
This episode sets up the whole grand retour plotline, we see Atlena is planning something that Soldats is not too happy about. Also we get to know more about the book the photocopies are coming from.
I really like Chloe, I like that we get to see a show of her wardrobe only for her to pick the same wack ass outfit every time. Also the fact that she asks Kirika if she can keep the fork. What a weird little critter honestly.
The whole time her and Kirika are talking all Mireille could think is "What the fuck are these kids doing". She ends up giving in in the end.
Ep. 12
This episode is a oddity in that Kirika and Mireille don't appear at all. It's just Chloe and Atlena. It's a nice episode, we get to see a little bit of their dynamic. She does seem to care about her but Chloe might just be a tool for her too. It's a bit early to tell.
She is... I don't wanna say unmotivated but she is uninterested in the missions she is given. She cares about the integrity of it but she isn't interested in why she is given them. She isn't like "How dare you betray our organization bla bla"
Chloe's loyalties lie in Atlena only. She doesn't seem to care about Soldats, but she is interested in the Grand Retour, since the plan involves her.
Ep. 13
I wrote my thoughts in a seperate post like this:
I expected the painter to be one of Noir's targets or something because that's what happens with anyone who Kirika interacts positively with, thus why Mireille told her not to talk to him. But when he got shot I realized it was so he wouldn't get caught up in their mess and die. It's genuinely sad, you can tell at the end she is saying that from experience. Kirika was really happy to spend time with him, her face lights up. Something like picking up hobbies and making friends would mean a lot, especially to someone who doesn't have any idea who they are. Really nice episode overall
It was always present but after this episode you become on edge every time Mireille or Kirika i teract with a friend, expecting them to die. It does happen with George later on.
Ep. 14
There is some nice writing in this episode. Mireille denies her uncle could lie to her only for her to lie to him after. If she has things she would keep a secret surely her uncle must too.
There is definitely symbolism with the flowers but I am not smart enough to figure it out.
Ep. 15-16
Wild to me that Mireille and Kirika actually listened to Soldats. What if they hijack tour plane on your way to Vietnam or something? I don't think it's worth the risk.
The combat in this show is really lackluster. Maybe I am just not getting it. The henchmen are a joke, beating them is not fun to watch for me. And it drags on for so long too. I do like the shorter action sequences though.
It's funny that they say the poison the killer lady uses is "lethal to normal humans" and do not elaborate on that. Is she not human. What does this mean.
These episodes make me think Atlena does care for Chloe and isn't just putting on an act. Otherwise it makes no sense she would be fond of her in her inner dialogue and watch over her. She won't see that so why bother acting?
Ep. 17
The reveal that Mireille's parents were killed by Soldats was not surprising but I wasn't expexting them to be part of Soldats. We get to learn a lot about Mireille and Kirika's past but I don't have anything particularly interesting to say so I will skip that.
Apparently, her parents betrayed Soldats to protect her. But she had a brother didn't she, who got killed with her parents. Does that mean there is something special about Mireille?
Ep. 18
In every story with a duo protagonist there comes a time where the duo "breaks up". I wouldn't call this an arc since it's the span of an episode but yknow.
Losing my shit at crying Kirika she looks so much like the crying cat image here. How can you be so horrible to a face like that Mireille.
I get the sense Chloe doesn't give two shits about Mireille and only decided to tell Kirika about her because her dying would make Kirika upset. In a similar way to how Homura treats Sayaka, I guess. And she is right that it would make her upset. She is dependent on Mireille since she is the only person she actually knows. And I don't think Mireille realises that until the end.
The end of the episode was really cute. I am really starting to get attached to these two.
And that's the end! I decided to do a little sketch of Chloe at the end here for those who read this whole thing
Tumblr media
There is a significant lack of Noir content and I want to change that so I might post some art on my art blog (^o^)v

it's thursday bitches
spoilers under the cut
Okay, I was organizing fic and writing shit for the first two hours so I couldn’t live react BUT:
That ep of Mothership was phenomenal. Good job team.
Barely paid attention to Toronto, I can’t get on board yet.
Now it’s SVU time.
“happy hunting” ewww… puke in my mouth, that’s disgusting.
Girl WHAT THE FUCK. I don’t care if you JUST met someone at a hostel that night, you don’t fucking leave them alone in a bar when they’re visibly really drunk and with two guys all over her, come on.
Okay, I’m starting a Velasco line tally: 1
OOOO a full scene! Look at our boy go!
Okay yeah he is finally getting some screen time
These boy may not be the actual perps in this situation, but there is no doubting they’re pieces of shit.
This is gonna be one of those cases with the last minute twist that the other girl is the actual perp, right? That’s why there’s no dna?
I don’t like this squad. I understand rollins not coming back/kelli not wanting to come back (hello, she just had a baby, and would you want to go back to a workplace you were fired from full time?) but I will forever be salty about them getting rid of muncy and churlish, they FIT with the squad, they worked through their issues and worked well together. It was refreshing to have the younger generation coming in and being mentored by liv, fin and Bruno. I like the fbi girl, she’s a great actress, but the vibe isn’t the same.
Ohhhh I forgot about the other guy from the beginning lol
Okay but I DO love three powerful older women interrogating pathetic young twenty something boys
LOOOL and this dynamic of good cop bad cop between Bruno and joe?! LOVE IT.
Bruno is fucking killing me rn, this is hilarious. Prime television.
The fact that there is still another hour of television after this? I’m TIRED. And like..grey’s starts soon too so that’s gonna fuck me up.
This episode has fully sold me on wanting Bruno to destroy me. Sir. Pls.
Something that fell into your lap?! Liv…baby… you wanted to take in every abandoned kid at svu over the past 25 years. You were the mom calvin deserved, you wanted to adopt, you have ALWAYS wanted kids/to be a mother, its been part of her character arc literally the entire time the show was on air. Yes, technically noah kinda fell into her lap, but the way it was addressed here did not seem right lol.
Okay, that episode was actually super good compared to the last few weeks!
Don’t trust this captain at ALL. but like, I don’t think we’re supposed to LOL.
“I don’t know… im not his mother.. thank GOD” lol… we love Jet.
I miss bell…is she gonna pop up at some point? We need her sass/banter
The fact that she went out to do this super nice thing by replacing the flowers for jet cause she let her stay with her and THAT’S when she was attacked. Fuck this. Ugh.
The fact that they’re going through so much effort to block the face/voice of this killer means that we know who they are already, right?
BUT also… if the captain hadn’t called jet specifically to get Elliot to his fucking iab appointment she would have been home and able to protect the girl… so like… im still super sus of her
All of these crusty old white men all look alike and I cannot tell the difference between them. Is it the cap’s dad? Brother? Husband? Random poker night connection?
DIVORCE???!!!! I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING.
…okay but now they could be together somewhere down the road? Like.. they really did bomb us with that ship so I haven’t had time to decide if I like it or not but we’ll see how things go.
Okay so the brother AND the dad are both in on it? Maybe the cap isn’t actually sus and will be blindsided?
Meh, that ep wasn’t that good tonight tbh but two outta our aint bad!

Ohhhhh!!!!!!! Killer and Healer asks!!!! You talking about K&H is one of my favorite things!!!!! (the amount of time it took me to decide which ones to send is ridiculous, by the way XD in the end I managed to notch it down to 4!)
☀️ What’s your favorite episode?
❤️ What’s your favorite Zhan Junbai and Yu Tangchun moment?
👌 Top five moments
👑 Best/favorite outfit
Happy 2nd anniversary!!!! And thank you!!!! We wouldn't have made it this far without you!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ahhh, thank you Nine! I always appreciate getting asks from you and I always love talking about Killer and Healer, so let's go!
☀️ What’s your favorite episode?
Now that's just rude...how dare you make me pick Nine, that's not fair
Anyways, if I had to pick, I'd probably go with ep. 8 just because of the hurt and comfort and the way the minute Jiang Yuelou realizes that there's something wrong with Chen Yuzhi he hauls ass and when he realizes that he's unconscious, he just takes care of him and the whole taking care of him sequences and the feeding him medicine and gently holding him and tucking him in and just...*unintelligible noises* I'm clearly normal about them, as you can see
❤️ What’s your favorite Zhan Junbai and Yu Tangchun moment?
Another hard question, Nine! But, if I had to pick, I think it's a tie between Yu Tangchun taking the knife for Zhan Junbai in the tailor shop and the gun lesson.
Now, I like the Yu Tangchun taking the knife for Zhan Junbai scene for two reasons. The first reason being that I'm pretty sure it was the first fucking time someone ever put themselves in harms way for Zhan Junbai and the second reason being that we get to see Zhan Junbai just go fucking feral. Like the minute he sees that Yu Tangchun is injured/hurt, something within him switches. Like, we know that Zhan Junbai used to be a soldier, we know he has cruel and vicious tendencies but we've never seen it until now and the way he just takes out those two tailors? Fucking *chef's kiss*
As for the gun lesson, it's just...Zhan Junbai, why do you need to stand so fucking close to Yu Tangchun to teach him how to shoot a gun? Like, the way he trails his fucking hand down Yu Tangchun's arm and the way he has to stand almost cheek to fucking cheek with Yu Tangchun...my good sir, you don't need to stand that close to him. Like you really don't but you did, and I'm losing my mind over it
👌 Top five moments
JAIL! JAIL FOR NINE FOR 1,000 YEARS!
Anyways...

And we are officially at 3x12: ‘come on Brian, don’t act like you don’t care about the backroom being closed. You said it yourself: you love public fucking’ ‘Damn, maybe Michael is actually gonna be cool if Hunter sticks around. I can’t believe they are actually keeping him like a stray cat. *looks at me all fake seriously* this is a good time to tell you, mom and dad also found you outside like that.’ ‘Im gonna need them to leave Emmett alone! Everyone leave him the fuck alone! I feel so bad for him- mel can you stop acting like Emmett is on a trial?’ HUNTER IS ABOUT TO MEET BRIAN!!!! ‘HE DOES EXIST BITCH! BRIAN FUCKING KINNEY! What did I say?! Everyone has a crush on Brian! Okay, i like Hunter now.’ ‘TED YOU FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT! I feel so horrible for you but i am willing to put my feelings aside to rip your head off! Emmett deserves happiness not this shit’ ‘damn Ben can’t catch a break. His man AND his stray kid both being obsessed with Brian. No wonder he’s boring. SHIT HE KNOWS THE DEAD KID! OF COURSE A FUCKING COP DID IT. Why am i acting surprised? Carl, i had some faith in you, please dont fuck this up fully’ and now the infamous Deb at Brians party scene ‘DEBBIE IS BACK AT BRIANS! COME ON BEST FRIENDS! *pauses tv and looks at me* is this what I look like to you when I’m watching this show? Wait. Is this what i looked like when i asked (our uncles name) how gay sex works? Oh my god, I am Debbie at a gay orgy! Wait, is she expecting Brian to save the day with this cop killer thing? So the theme of the show is: blame Brian, use him for help and money and be mean to brian, got it’ ‘he told Justin about the dead kid picking up a cop? Yeah Brian is officially caring about it because no way is he gonna ignore just- oh Teddy, this is heartbreaking. Emmett baby, you’re above this. I get it but fucking hell you deserve better. Who the fuck does Mel think she is to just call Emmett that?! OH SHIT EMMETT CALLED HER A CUNT! GOOD FOR HIM! Thank you emmett. I know it’s bad to be happy about this but she is very rude sometimes. Im still angry for how she treated Brian about that life insurance or whatever.’ BRIAN AND HUNTER SCENE IS UP!!! ‘Hunter go hom- peanut car! BRIAN! Now this duo is something i can fuck with. So hunter and Brian. Or Jen and Brian. Or Daphne and Brian..so basically everyone except Mike.’ And the bar scene is up ‘this is the most depressing bar ever no wonder its a cop bar- are they trying to find the cop- HEY HE HAS A BOYFRIEND! SO HANDS OFF!(hunter offers to pay Brian) everyone is willing to pay him. Hunter. Justin. At this point, give me 4 more days and I’ll pay him too. BRIAN BE CAREFUL WITH THE COP, why are you asking so many questions? Who do you think you are? Oprah? He has no business looking this pretty while horribly interrogating a murderer.‘ And now the sad Ted and Emmett scene is up ‘NO TED! WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK IS GOING ON WITH HIM? EMMETT GET OUT. LEAVE. DONT LET HIM DRAG YOU DOWN TOO. EMMETT HE NOT ONLY WANTS TO DO DRUGS HES ALSO TELLING YOU HE CHEATED! Emmett nooooooooo’ and the best part of the ep is up: Britin hustler scene!!! ‘Oh damn Blondie, look at you looking fine as fuck! Absolutely no dying young will be happening on my watch Brian! *waves his hand towards Justin* yeah, whatever he just said. Too big words for me right now. Do they have matching jackets or is he wearing Brians clothes? Brian really cant escape teenagers who have a crush on him. *said at the same time as justin* EXCUSE ME? He’s the boyfriend! See hunter, the reason Brian laughed is because Justin has owned his ass for the past 3 years! Blondie…you’re 19. And you were a stalker stealing credit cards at 17. That is considered an annoying teen’ ‘NOO HUNTER DON’T GO WITH HIM! FUCKING HELL THIS SHIT BETTER NOT GET HIM KILLED. I actually got attached to the little fucker’ And to end this on a good note, he went out to call his friend to tell him about the episodes and a cat scared the shit out of him and now he’s afraid to leave the house. At 36. I have a 5 year old child that I’m babysitting, who has a crush on Gale.
I’m snorting about him telling you your parents found you like that. That’s some peak sibling behavior.
He likes Hunter because of his crush on Brian? So relatable. I’m so excited he’s at this part.
So the theme of the show is: blame Brian, use him for help and money, and be mean to Brian. What’s that meme that’s like “you did it, you broke qaf down to its bare essentials? That’s this.
Emmett is so lovely during this arc, and so relatable. I agree with your brother about everything.
Do they have matching jackets or is he wearing Brian’s clothes? I die! Brian really can’t escape teenagers who have a crush on him. YUP. I love Justin’s complaining about teenagers. That is such an iconic and hilarious scene.
You are doing such a good job babysitting. And he does have a crush on Gale. He’s going to find out that Gale is straight and wow, I want to know his reaction.
Thank you for these summaries! I love them!

Justice in the dark, ep 6:
I'm a bit tired so not much thoughts coherent. But possibly my favorite episode so far. I love this case, it's the one I most remember reading, I love its execution on the show so far
The scenes did so good showing how Luo Wenzhou was the one paying attention to Fei Du from the start. How Tao Ran did because Luo told him to. Fei Du saw Tao Ran as the one doting on him when it was Luo. How Luo still orders him around, handles him like a junior, dotes on him (Luos Ill go help Fei myself while Tao Ran looks at him knowingly when Luo goes downstairs), cares about if he's okay, cares that Fei Du lashes out so he has methods of reigning Fei back in. When Fei tries to leave a hard conversation he'll make up an excuse to say Fei du can't leave, when Fei Du says "I'll hire killers" Luo treats it like a kid saying "I'll run away!" Or "I'm going to my room!" And just rolls with it without lashing out in return which is what Fei wants (so fei can run away from the hard honest conversation). That bit where Luo says Fei, if you just didn't fight me, then I could - and it's left hanging. And fei asks then you'd do what? And in the end is the answer the conclusion of their story, them coming together as equal lovers instead of this enemies-who-care-intensely about each other holding pattern? No wonder Luo can't answer, he was talking from the heart and probably didn't know where the words were leading until they came out. Then like Fei, he shuts down the conversation by lashing out (scolding Fei) and going to call Fei a cab. (It's no wonder Fei Du learned to run from hard conversations he doesn't want to do from Luo and copies him now lol - its like oh man bear with me but when people say you date people like yr parents, or like ur friends, except you are actually dating the person who knows you as well as those people and Fei du in effect is attached to a man who's Just Like Himself. Both of these fools are going to end up with crushes on each other emotionally just like themselves, because Fei Du learned from Luo so much of his behavior and Luo adapted so much of his own behavior to match Fei over the years. It's like how married couples are so similar. But they already did the "become more similar over the years" BEFORE dating lol. No wonder they're like oil and water, it can be hard to get along with someone who's flaws and shorter fuses match yours so often.
I am so surprised (but in a happy way) how clearly Fei Dus crush on Tao Ran is in the explicit plot. It's pretty much like the book, I didn't expect that level shown. I loved him pulling the covers over Tao Ran, speaking on behalf of Tao Ran to the girl he likes as if giving his crush away to her, hinting to Tao to ask her to dinner, leaving that note for Tao when he woke up (and Luo also leaving a note and a full prepped fridge - honestly they both act like Tao Rans temp boyfriends who are firmly told "no I'm not dating you bro I only love you platonically" but both of them are like "well ill just keep treating you like my boyfriend until you're Actually taken"... which thinking about it now, how wild is it that Fei Du also copies Luo Wenzhou with the crush on Tao Ran? With doting on Tao Ran, leaving him notes the same way, happy for Tao with a new crush mirroring Luos reaction, again Fei and Luo partly fight so much because Fei Du in many respects turned out similar to Luo and its a point of conflict at times. And a point of warmth, as Fei Du also developed that closeness to Tao (and lmao a crush on the same man as Luos crush), fei also made Tao Ran into his family like Luo sees Tao Ran as family. That's a positive point to it. Anyway in short: I really appreciate Fei Du reads as obviously into men, specifically Tao Ran, and it's cute. It hurts my heart as a Tao Ran number 1 fan. I'm again surprised it's just overtly there as much as it is.
The use of Tao Ran in the love Triangle reminds Me a TON of the use of Zhu Hong in the love "triangle" in Guardian. A way to make it very obvious story telling wise that the 2 romantic interests like each other, because they Pick each other over the third party (zhu Hong in guardian is rejected by Zhao yunlan for Shen Wei... and she wouldn't think she's rejected FOR another person being picked if it wasnt a romantic rival, Tao Rans scenes make it Blatantly Clear Tao ran thinks Luo is picking Fei Du instead of Tao over and over recently even going so far as calling out Luos increasing fondness and closeness, Tao rans scenes make it clear Fei Du likes men but Taos not an option for Fei what with Tao having a girlfriend and turning him down over and over... but there's 1 lead in this shoe Besides Tao with no gf who's close to Fei Du o3o). I really love Tao anyway (yall know this I'm a simp), but I also really like that a lot of his scenes feel unchanged in level of overtness, which really helps make Fei du and Luos dance toward romantic entanglement more obvious. They're not there yet of course, but they weren't at this point in the book either.
I appreciate the actors, just everything, deeply at REALLY well depicting the "enemies to lovers" aspect of fei du/Luo wenzhou. I loved all the scenes at Tao Rans apartment. And they really hammer home how its true both that: Luo wenzhou has cared deeply for Fei Du since they met and they've grown emotionally close because of that relationship (to the point Fei Du is his most emotionally open and vulnerable only when he talks to Luo Wenzhou alone - privately together Fei Du feels safest and most vulnerable and open), but at the same time they are still at each other's throats and Cannot stop conflicting with each other (partly exactly Because Fei Du feels so vulnerable and emotionally close to Luo Wenzhou he Feels so afraid that he has to lash out), and Luo Wenzhou can't just let go and let fei du leave... the way Tao ran at the start could've let Fei Du leave their lives. Luo HAS to stay in Fei Dus life, he cares too much to let him isolate and go self destruct, so then Luo LASHES OUT TOO to try and Keep Fei Du somewhat abated and so they just cannot stop fighting. That conflicting aspect of their relationship at the start is so important. And it's complicated. It's full of love and caring about each other already, and that's why it's so frightening and so hard to maintain and like Luo says in the kitchen. If Fei Du could just stop fighting him, then he could-- he could what is the question. Be closer. Close the gap they both maintain by fighting nonstop. Move past their lashing out and be fully vulnerable and open to each other without Stopping themselves or each other when it gets too intimate and their relationship becomes irrevocably changed. This whole relationship dynamic is why I love the couple so much, and I'm beyond grateful it's being handled so well and playing out so lovely on screen.
So many shots, decisions, power play visuals on screen in Tao Rans apartment scenes i loved it.
Interesting to me that Luo Wenzhou being gay is downplayed a lot more than in book. I mean yeah I expected it. And he's not flamboyant like wen kexing is so if you cut out him making passes at Tao Ran its not super obvious. I would imagine maybe also him being a lead cop representing Cops and government may also be a factor in downplaying it who knows. Another reason I liked this ep is that Luos crush on Tao is finally OBVIOUS. At least, more obvious than before. He says he feels complicated about Tao Ran having a girl. He still dotes on Tao like a husband, making him food and doing his dishes and prepping his meals for the week and writing him a note and taking care of their "coparented" Fei Du when Tao Ran is too drunk and asleep to be calling a cab for Fei, he's standing just as awkward as Fei Du when at the bottom of the building they all run into Tao Rans crush and Fei pulls Luo off to the side with him and they BOTH observe as little copies of each other coping wirh Tao ran liking someone who's not them and being happy for him but also a little internally crushed they've got to stop hoping he'll ever choose them. (It is again, Beyond funny to me Fei Du grew up picking up SO much from Luo he even ended up crushing on the same man to the point they fucking mirror each other around Tao Ran romantically lol. They both give him stuff, moon after him and know they shouldn't, write him notes and stick around to take care of him when the party's over and he's fallen asleep). Anyway back to the point. Luo finally got some decent scenes to indicate a bit more clearly, hey, yeah, Luo does like men. Particularly Tao ran. And if he doesn't like men??? If somehow you interpreted it that way? Then at minimum notice he acts like Tao Rans wife and that's a Hella close personal relationship. Which he will be later developing with Fei (and already sort of has although Luo doesn't want to recognize it consciously yet... though I think he already has. Now that Fei Dus an adult and a peer to him in terms of actual intelligence, capability, trust, I think Luo often hides/camouflages his developing feelings as "I'm parenting you because someone has to!" Fei is an adult same as Tao ran. Fei is an equal, and he can take care of a drunk Tao Ran and pay Tao Rans bills and keep a little girl safe he babysits while going out on an errand. He is not a child who needs someone ordering him, controlling him, making sure he's functional and not hurt. Luo knows Fei Du can decide to upset his tummy drinking coffee after wine. He knows rich ass Fei can call his own cab. He knows Fei can get his own food, carry his own boxed gift, etc. But he STILL does everything for Fei he possibly can. Because he cares, and it's shifted into caring about fei like he cares about Tao ran. A romantic adjacent kind of care, a desire to dote on and spoil him not because Fei needs it but because he just wants to give it to Fei. And I think Luo hides behind the excuse of acting like it's motivated by caretaking. And to a degree it is, it definitely used to be. But when forced to face if the feeling is shifting he doesn't want to. Tao Ran DEFINITELY wants to bring it up. And I think Luos realizing it's growing a life of its own and he's going to have to be honest with himself some time soon. I'm not sure if Fei Du notices at all yet though, or if he sees it as Luo just being controlling and overbearing even though Fei Du should no longer be under anyone's supervision. (Which just fuels fei seeing it as them constantly at odds even more).
Just a Lot of fascinating parallels to be seen between the whole trio of Tao Ran, Fei Du, and Luo Wenzhou and the shows depicting it well.
The part about the dad of the missing girl killing someone. And fei saying you're afraid I'll kill someone too. Luo not taking the bait. God I love that scene. I love when fei du does shit like that.
I barely mentioned the case at all but again this is one of my fave cases from the novel, I loved the flashbacks to their old mentor dying (and again hammering how Tao Ran is so PRESENT throughout the story as a connection to Luo and the shared experiences with him), the mentor meeting the father and it feeling like a generational wound still unhealed (very Beyond Evil), I just really loved those parts and when I read the novel never ever thought I'd get to see them.

🕸️🕯️HAPPY BIRTHDAY, YOU DRUG-ADDLED MADMAN!🕯️🕸️
Without you, we wouldn't have Nevermore or our Raven Wednesday as she is. We would have had to rely on a culture without your poems and stories, and I can't imagine growing up in a world without masterpieces like Annabel Lee or The Telltale Heart. I would have not have won my 6th grade horror story writing contest that creeped everyone out without your influence, and I thank the gods for my introduction to your work three years prior. I would not have snatched up lovely 1890s copies of your poems for the love of my life, since she too had been obsessed with your work from an early age. (An 1892 Thomas Crowell and an 1895 Henry Altemus, according to my ancient eBay receipt.)
And now I must hijack your birthday to bemoan something inextricably tied to you and your work. (But alas, it has done it in just a superficial manner so far.)
Your presence as the basis for Wednesday's setting is why the show is Gothic Horror, not Horror. The complex emotions explored in the whole of the series sets it apart from the fear-evoking terror and violence of straight-on horror, which is perhaps why I am dismayed by the young actress's comments about nudging the show towards horror, since horror deals in terrifying the audience rather than taking them on an even more damaging tour of the various terrible emotions that make us question human morality.
Allow me to quote an L.A. Times critic who reviewed The Following, a show revolving around a Poe expert and a Poe-guided serial killer and his cult:
When we’re meant to observe the creepy gothic horror of [Poe's] stories, it’s the sense of inevitability or fate that gives the reader a frisson, not the gore: someone is buried alive, or dissolves in a moment.
This needs to be explained, considering the news that the show's S2 will 'lean more into horror'. Allow me to defer to Daniel Blackwood's excellent breakdown of the genre (picking out the features here, but all should watch the video for deeper insights):

Emotional Turmoil: "Antagonists are often personifcations of the protagonists' misdeeds or endured tragedies re-emerging as the physical or the metaphysical manifestation of emotional turmoil. In defeating or by sometimes being consumed by these presences ultimately concludes the inner and outer dilemmas of the characters."
That is literally this:

Though no one really talks about this, Sheriff Galpin is a background protagonist (he is in every episode) antihero, because he lacked the courage to face the truth because he loved his son and feared that his suspicions. He is, actually, a main character, and without him, the story loses the greater tragedy that is Tyler Galpin.
Mystery & Suspense: "The genre is pervaded by a threatening atmosphere, usually unseen and felt on an instinctual level. Protagonists may apply logic and rationale to otherwise supernatural happenings or vice versa. This is enhanced by the emotional turmoil suffered by protagonists, which makes for truly engrossing tales as the reader or viewer, much like the protagonist, attempts to make sense of the things around them. "
Again, literally**:

There's just something wrong about this place. And not just because it's a school. ~ Wednesday, Ep 1
Also, Sheriff Galpin knew something at the very beginning, and Wednesday pinpointed that in the second episode (in the previous episode, he and Santiago chat about the murders and how they were to be perceived as bear attacks). Noble also makes mention of bear attacks as well. **I edited this, because I had originally meant to use Wednesday's intuition as the example for Mystery & Suspense.
Ancient Prophecies: "Often connected to the very geography of the story, for example a castle or a forest, prophecies are usually unwittingly brought into fruition by the protagonist's actions or lack thereof. Prophecies are mostly obscure partial or deliberately confusing."
Once again, directly*:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My dear Wednesday, you are the key. Your arrival at Nevermore set the chubby wheels of my plan in motion. ~ Laurel Gates, a.k.a. Thornhill, Ep 8
Metonymy: "Metonomy is a subtype of metaphor, in which something like rainfall or lightning is used to communicate something else such as a mood, for example a thunderstorm being used to communicate impending dread, or using rainfall to denote sorrow. It's used so commonly in the genre that it's now a major staple, and you'd be hard pressed to find a gothic novel that does not use this to some degree."
Wednesday is checking all of these boxes, isn't it:
Tumblr media
At least it's turning into a beautiful day. ~ Morticia Addams, Ep 1
Inexplicable Events: "Often supernatural in nature, events such as a knight's helmet falling on a character without logical reasoning or a glass being held at the protagonist by an unseen presence are extremely commonplace in the genre. In some ways these events are explained logically, and in others are indeed supernatural."
Tumblr media
Xavier saved Wednesday from being crushed by the gargoyle, which 'inexplicably' fell (but at the end of the ep is revealed as Rowan's work). There are other examples of this throughout the season, like when Wednesday was attempting to summon Goody and the candles were blown out.
Mortality: "The Victorian Era was rife with an obsession with death, so much so that historians have dubbed this era and its people The Cult of Death; with this in mind, it stands to reason why many of the genre's works possess a morbid fascination with human mortality. Many of the genre's works attempt to romanticize the passing of human life while others simply lay bare its effects on those still living."
Tumblr media
That is probably the most glaringly obvious and fitting characteristic of our main protagonist's core personality. Wednesday is death-obsessed. She sleeps like that because of it (and we love her for it). Honorable mention is her nap in the morgue.
Human Nature: "Many gothic novels and short stories aim to display the underlying sinister motivations of human nature. They depict the deep desires and passions that lie beneath the façade of socially engineered morality. This is usually done through the use of metaphors."
Tumblr media
(No words needed for that one. However, Gates's half-baked actions could also be a metaphor for Wednesday's, which is only part of the reason why "Thornhill" tells Wednesday that they're a lot alike.)
There is zero question that Wednesday (and Burton's other light-hearted work, if we're being honest) is a Gothic Horror Comedy.
It was never meant to be overtly scary or bloody/gory, and Edgar's works more than inspired the show's plotline and its very existence (as thin and clumsy as it was with its handling of the 'mystery'). I shall be bereft if it is cheapened because of a misunderstanding or deliberate dismissal of genres, though we are all hoping that it turns out well and that the change of tone doesn't weigh its comedy roots down (the hope is tenuous, given the near abandonment of satire...Pilgrim World's existence might be the first season's saving grace on that front).
TLDR; Gothic Horror (with emotions and relationships explored within an Old World 'horror' setting, its themes revolving around the complexity of human nature) is not *Horror* (aims to evoke fear in its audience, with terror being its main objective), Wednesday is Gothic Horror, Happy 215th Birthday Mr. Poe 🐦‍⬛🎂🎉

Finished The Sandman. Watched the last two eps.
Thoughts under the cut because spoilers!
AHHHH GAULT WAS SOOOOOO BEAUTIFUL 😭 seriously most beautiful ever I’m in love. My eyes were shiny hearts looking at her. And the lil smile with Lucienne was so cute.
I’m so happy Rose and Jed made it WHEW! I was rly thinking Rose was gonna pass to the great fiddlers green beyond.
Goddamn the whole serial killer, child abuser, and and child molester angle was *rough* I had to fast forward parts. Like it leaned hard into putting the most precious fictional child to ever exist (Jed) in some horrific situations. That was ROUGH. And the gore that comes with serial killer shit is not something I enjoy. It’s actually why I avoid realistic dramas and stick with fantasy. But here we are.
But obviously thank Chuck he was good in the end.
Even tho Dream was gonna kill Rose, it was sweet how proud he seemed of her. She got one of his itty bitty little smiles. That’s a weird sentence but true.
Damn Hal bagged a hottie. I was so worried about said hottie when he hooked up with teetheyes but so glad he made it out too.
I never fully understood Desire’s…desire. What the point was. He looked damn good doing it but I didn’t really catch what it was.
Why does Dream have sexual chemistry with almost everyone. I mean I get it, but still.
As a witcher fan, I said PHILIPPA! When Mazikeen popped up again. And in that last scene I swear my sister went, WAIT IS THAT BRIENNE? 😂 yes girl you just noticed?
It was so satisfying what Dream did to all the serial killers. I also really loved how well he made up to Lucienne. He grew so much as a person. Also, side note. Lucienne’s ears are adorable.
Completely random thing but there was a photo of Jude, the girl from the diner, in Rose’s apartment. Was I supposed to remember why?
So yeah. Glad I watched it. Dream was a fascinating character and that world and the characters in it were too.
As a whole, my least favorite ep was the one with the diner. I just lost interest when I didn’t get *any* Dream (I didn’t realize how fascinated I was with him until he wasn’t on screen) and also fuck John and that whole ass family. Also the momentum just kind of sagged a bit in the middle.
My most favorite might actually still be the first one. It was just so chilling and visually iconic. But I also loved the episode with Death. She just lit up the screen and I live for sibling dynamic. I also loved Joanna Constantine.
I’m definitely into this for S2 if we get one.

KinnPorsche Ep 8 Brain Rot
(ghosts and love and trying to ignore the honkee)
Porsche and his fear of ghosts - I don't know if they really just threw that in there for some heeheehaha comedy but I will take the opportunity to superimpose my thougts and call it analysis. I have zero clue about Thai culture and their beliefs in the supernatural so this rambling comes from a secular perspective but I would definitely love to know more about Thai beliefs and relationships with ghosts. But my canon, if you can call it that, is that people who see the underbelly of the world, mafias, murderers etc etc are more inclined to be scared of ghosts because at this point they aren't scared of humans anymore. They know just what humanity is capable of, all the horrible little things about us so it no longer scares them unlike a regular person who would definitely be terrified of their closest serial killer. But death for these types of people is always knocking at the door so at this point he's just an unwanted salesperson. But on the otherhand, ghosts and the supernatural, it provides a sense of uncertainty and the unknown. A human, no matter how bad, is still limited by their mortality. They will die if a bullet is put in them, Porsche knows this. But a ghost? How tf does one even begin to fight off the ghost of your boyfriend's ex? Is it even possible? So yeah, why wouldn't he be scared of something he knows a bullet won't stop.
I would defend Ken some more, but right now he only needs protecting from KinnPorsche's unending hornkeeness
KINN TAKING SNEAKY BITES WHILST PORSCHE SCOLDS HIM BECAUSE HE'S TRYING TO TAKE A PHOTO IS SO GNTIGJVSKRANFMEDWRNTE, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT TO ME
The shift in Kinn in this episode may seem out of character for big bad mafia but for me, someone who loves you will bring out the part of you you could never be in your day to day life. Throughout life, you become this mold of a person that is incredibly hard to change, the roles you fall into seem so natural and you find yourself unconscionously giving and giving to this expectation of yourself. But when you're in love, suddenly, those roles are reversed. Someone else makes the decisions for once, that person draws out the spontaneity to your timetabled-to-the-hour perfectionist. The other person throws a complete hammer in the works and at first, it's anxiety-inducing to be taken out of your comfort zone before you realise it's just the fact you've never been on the receiving end until now. In this ep, Kinn is taken out of his element, put in sheep's clothing and he realises how much of the pretty green meadow he hasn't seen because it's absolutely beautiful. Porsche wanted a beautiful dinner by the river, but Kinn has spent his life in excess, opulence and beauty. But you know what he hasn't done? Sat on the ground next to a fountain and eaten fishballs off a stick. You can look at one thing every single day and the beauty may fade, you bring someone who has never seen this thing before in their life and you will see the stars in their eyes expanding. This is what Porsche does for Kinn. This is why Kinn seems so completely enamoured and happy by the entire day. AND IT'S WHAT HE DESERVES.
I wonder if Kim is like an asshole of endearment? I remember in one earlier episode he said to Big 'why are you still here?' and I just remember thinking WOW WHAT A DICKHEAD WHY HE WANNA CATCH THESE HANDS. But then this time, his very thinly veiled 'joke' about Porsche being his dad's secret child makes me wonder if he's actually friendly with Big but in the insult your friends type of way.
Okay I really can't remember anything else from this episode other than soft KP (like the bread) and then very very hard KP (like Kinn's Magnum pistol lmfao, send help)
Sidenote, I was also one of the people eagerly awaiting some VegasPete and I'm absolutely feral because I was convinced we would have a Killing Stalking moment of Vegas of giving Pete some severe blunt force trauma to the head as the final cliffhanger scene. So now I've decided absolutely not to listen to KP Tumblr because the way y'all got my hopes up SHSHSHSHHS
