they’re all lying, the beach almost killed me. i wish it had rather than burn 10 million holes through my dermis straight to my heart. and the ocean almost took me cause my goggles weren’t effectively sealed and saltwater crept in to my eyes and a lot went in my mouth. plus i couldn’t stop imagining sharks lurking around me bc the water was fucking green and not blue like the pictures.

so anyway,

apart from the beach, what is there? it’s redneck nation, white trash lollapalooza. basically oklahoma except without the native americans, cows, and casinos. it’s humid as all get out. no one, i mean absolutely no one could wrap their head around me disliking the weather. it was so bizarre. i thought o was losing my mind after the 14th floridian i met who asked why i don’t move down there just looked at me in total confusion when i said i didn’t like all the humidity. MY OWN DAD didn’t believe me, like sir you were born and raised in indiana and then spent the last 20 years in oklahoma please don’t act like it’s normal to be violently perspirating after standing outside for 2 minutes. i legit think the sun is affecting their brains. i couldn’t catch my breath when i got off the plane i’m not joking. it’s a hell site, fucking dagobah if it downpoured every 3 hours and if yoda had a meth addiction and was also a nazi

I feel you on being far away from concerts, I live in Canada and so I’m flying in to see KARD, but I have family in the area so it’s worth the trip! I’m also debating on weather or not I want to get myself a superM album? I know there is a version for each member but is there another version as well? What is that one? Like all of them? lol I don’t know all of the members already since I only really know NCT127 super well in terms of SM groups so I may get Mark’s version but I’m not sure

Canada? That’s so cool, I’ve never been but I’ve always wanted to visit. What part of Canada? Also the only close family members I have in another state is Florida, but most concerts are in Miami, and my cousin lives but near Pensacola. And the rest of my family is either in Ohio or in Africa. 

On SuperM : I’m like a huge fan of SM groups, so I know every member and love every group they’re from. So it was hard choosing which album cover I wanted. But there is a version where you could just get the original cover art version of the album, and you still get everything else included in the member version albums. But I also bought Mark’s album for myself, I love my son too much.

The Storm Before the Calm

We have been planning an RV trip to hike parts of the Florida Trail. The Florida Trail is a 1,400-mile National Scenic Trail from Gulf Islands National Seashore at Pensacola Beach out on the panhandle to Big Cypress National Preserve, the gateway to the Everglades in the south.

We plan to spend the month of February doing day hikes along this trail. Why? Because Jeanne has always wanted to through-hike the Appalachian Trail together in our retirement, but we are not in shape for such. The best way to get in shape for hiking is, well, hiking. Hence our training (practice? rehearsal?) on the Florida Trail.

We had talked about taking Jeanne's Prius along with the RV as a way of covering more of the Florida Trail. But the logistics of managing a second vehicle, which cannot be towed, put the kibosh on the idea. Plus, the point of hiking the Florida Trail is to get exercise, not to see how many miles of trail we can do. (The peanut gallery objects to author's idea of hiking without a milage goal.)

The days leading up to Wednesday's casting off are a storm of activity in preparation for the calm of a relaxing vacation in the F state.

Jeanne's mom was scheduled to have her attic insulated on Friday the 20th. We drove down to her house on Cape Cod on Thursday. We unpacked the attic so the installers could do their work, and then had a nice take out Thai dinner. We planned to stay through Saturday to repack the attic once the insulation was done.

Friday morning progressed past the expected arrival time of the workers. The company finally gave Jeanne's mom a call, saying a worker was out with the 'rona, and that they were rescheduling for Tuesday. The day before we leave. Happy, happy, joy, joy. We bid Jeanne's mom adieu and headed back home to enjoy an unexpected day off.

Our RV's thermostat appears to be on the fritz. The furnace comes on just fine, but it never turns back off again, no matter what the thermostat is set to. Tim posted the issue to the Storyteller Overland Facebook group, and soon heard back from a fellow at an RV van customizing company in New Haven who offered to help diagnose the problem. Road trip!

Tim took Millie on a pleasant afternoon drive, ending up in a very picturesque area of southern Connecticut with rolling hills and sleepy farms. The technician diagnosed the issue in 4 minutes flat. The furnace control panel was broken. He did not have one in stock, but knew the company who produced it, Rixens Enterprises, and told Tim to order a new one.

Tim called them and got an after hours answering machine message offering an email address to correspond with. He composed an email, asking them to contact him Monday when they got back in the office, and headed home.

At 8pm on Saturday night, Tim got a call back from the owner of the company. Talk about customer service! Jim walked Tim through using a multi tester to verify that the issue was a blown diode on the furnace control panel. The owner asked Tim for an address, and said there would be no charge in replacing the control panel. Which, BTW, is 18 months out of warranty. Talk about customer service! Oh, wait, I made that point already. They are sending it to Jeanne's sister's house in Jacksonville, so we can pick it up on the way.

Also on the possibly disabled list is the plumbing system. We had procrastinated on winterizing because Jeanne used the RV regularly when she visited her mom. One night, Tim came out to find the water pump running and the fresh water tank reading empty, hinting at a possible water leak. The next day, we blew the water out of the fresh water lines with our air compressor, and put antifreeze in the waste lines, hoping we were not too late.

Sunday night was warm enough to do a test fill of the water tank. We filled it halfway and turned on the water pump. No sound. Uh oh. Had the pump seized when Tim turned it off? It was forecast to be warm enough overnight that we could safely leave it until morning. And wonder of wonders, in the morning it worked. Lots of air in the lines, which is to be expected, but what a relief it is to have drinking water onboard.

Monday night, Jeanne returned to her mom's house so she could reload the attic once the workmen were done on Tuesday. Given that one of them may have been the one out with Covid, Jeanne and her mom decided to don masks. This made conversation awkward. There was mostly nothing to do while the workers did their work. They finally finished about 6pm, too late for Jeanne to have time to reload the attic. She headed home to finish packing for the trip.

On the same day, Tim's mom was being discharged from rehab. She had taken a bad fall in mid-December, resulting in a broken shoulder and broken pelvis. This laid her up in the hospital for over a week. Luckily, no surgery was needed, so she was transferred to rehab just before Christmas. She started rehab unable to get out of bed without assistance from two staffers. Four weeks later, she was happily on the mend, able to get in and out of bed and navigate anywhere she needed to go independently.

Tim drove her home to her apartment, where she was greeted warmly.

They had unpacked most of her stuff by the time lunch arrived. His mom dismissed him with stern instructions to enjoy his vacation and not worry about her. Like Jeanne, Tim headed home to finish packing.

So I just finished a song I'm really passionate about, it's directed towards those who feel like life is not worth living and nobody cares about them.
