Unimportant Sonic Characters [Side A, Round 3]
Which unimportant character is your favorite of the two?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda for Ian JR: Plz he's so funny. also he IS officially recognized. He's in an IDW sonic comic book AND the footage in the sonic symphony.
Propaganda for Conductor's Wife: Look at her / Girl did literally nothing in the entire game; the absolute definition of a background character

i’m team “not all transformative works are fanfiction, fanfiction is a specific modern phenomenon founded on a specific relationship between reader and text that doesn’t require historical proofs to be a legitimate form” up until people start being snotty and obnoxious about it and then i am there going "hamlet is gesta danorum fanfiction”

something I've found ive grown a little tired of is seeing people bring up serious topics and then say "america, amirite everyone!" like, yes. it is a problem in america. just, you're not the only country with homophobia and transphobia. if the topic were specifically about an incident that just occured IN america (like some new shitty bill) that is one thing. it being in america is relevent to the subject matter, as that is where the bill is occurring. but to bring up like "I was just thinking about the common harmful rhetoric concerning the queer community and the likelyhood of it leading to sprees of violence in the future", - something that is a very broad and not localized issue - is another thing to me.
I am canadian. I have this safety concern too. we are not free of homophobia here in ANY way. and the threat of sprees of violent hate crimes that could occur from the present normalcy of harmful rhetoric, is not only an american issue.
and I do understand that the people who bring up these things and then say "y'know how america is" are probably american and just venting, but it really bugs me because it feels like the implication of that language is that this is a threat that only affects queer americans. it makes me feel like its minimizing the presence of it here in canada and that I should not be hurt by the way I have been treated, because these problems are "only american" so my experiences are not real
I know logically that this is in no way what the people who say such things mean. its simply the way that commonality of that sentiment is when speaking about broad, not localized issues like that make me personally feel. because I know most of the people who do so are americans who are also upset by their own experiences, and that's the thing they say to try and be lighter about something that frightens them & deal with the intensity of their emotions regarding the situation

You know what, while I'm doing hot takes. And this one may be obvious considering I'm actively contributing to hosting the Solarpunk Aesthetic Week event but like.
Dear everyone who's constantly deriding the aesthetic portions of the solarpunk movement/genre; do you just not understand that being able to visualize the future you want is immensely important to being able to work towards it? Being able to get other people on board with it?
When I first got interested in Solarpunk, it wasn't for the hot leftist takes about the top ways to dismantle the government for the people, or top tips on how to build your own solar panel apparatuses. What brought me in? Visions of a hopeful future. I learned and began to love the rest as I dove deeper into solarpunk circles, but there is no denying that my first intro to it--and likely many people's first intro to it--was via the art and aesthetic spheres. The term 'solarpunk' was literally coined to refer to the aesthetic movement, and we've been building up from there ever since.
'When are people going to realize the aesthetic parts don't matter and what really matters is praxis--' dude, the aesthetic parts do matter. Inspiring people does matter. Showing people visions of a hopeful future is immensely important, it's why so many people join this movement. We see glimpses of what a hopeful future could look like, through beautiful art or riveting stories, we're inspired by things like stained glass and organic designs and statues and fashion concepts--and then we think to ourselves 'how can we help make this future happen?' And we learn the praxis and we work towards the goals and we share it with others because that's just how we work.
Seeing isn't always believing, but sometimes in order to believe in something with your whole heart, it helps to be able to visualize what you want. For yourself and for others.
So yes. The aesthetic parts of solarpunk do matter. Thank you for coming to my TEDTalk.

Leo getting hit with a truth curse but instead of forcing him to admit to super sad or worrying things it’s things like “it was me who broke the remote” “I saw Mikey prank Donnie and helped hide it because it’s way funnier if he didn’t know who it was” “I rip my clothes to look more like Raph’s because he’s really cool” “my stripes aren’t even red they’re pink!”
#rottmnt#rise of the teenage mutant ninja turtles#rottmnt leo#rise leo#plot twist he COULD be admitting angsty stuff but he’s pushing the less oof truths forward instead on purpose#raph: hey leo what do you want for dinner#leo: *about to bare his soul on all his internal torment but pivots* I’m afraid of snakes#(no but fr Leo’s stripes being technically more pink instead of red is cute ngl)#(a very reddish pink to the point that in certain lighting it looks red but at the base they’re p pink)#(i also am very fond of the idea that Leo doesn’t just have questionable taste in fashion he also just loves Raph a lot and looks up to him)#but yeah I think that something like this would be 99% Leo admitting to unimportant things or admitting to how much he values everyone#like they all KNOW Leo loves them and he’s talked them up enough for them to know but it’s different when he’s like#‘I just wanna read my comics with you guys around - it’s my favorite place to be’#or again just random bs that doesn’t REALLY have a lot of weight like#‘I like using my portals to prank random people around the world’#‘I’m worried about being a bad influence on hueso jr’#‘sometimes I kinda wanna see hypno’s plans succeed’#‘it’s been way too long since I found this out and honestly it’s embarrassing but I actually don’t have a di-‘#SORRY COULDNT HELP MYSELF#(<-but did u know that that pink rather than red observation actually ties into this headcanon as well if u know about red eared sliders)

once again petitioning for at least the temporary retirement of the word "problematic" in order to encourage more specific and precise language and force people to actually say what the issue is
"[x] is problematic because it depicts homophobia" okay but that doesn't actually tell me anything at all, try "[x] includes outdated stereotypes about gay people that go unquestioned/unchallenged by the narrative", more specific, more informative, less fucking obnoxious for me personally to read
