I’m late. But obsessed with EarthMix and ONLY just finished Moonlight chicken and look, I will believe anything from these shows. Anything! A body swap, yea I’m game, time travel? Sure thing I’ll buy that.
But at no point. At any point, can they try and convince me that Earth is a 40 year old man. Like. Hunny no.
BUT they can convince me that if you show Mix’s Forehead. His Duality reaches another level.
Thank you for allowing me to ramble on your ask, with not an ask but more of a statement of feelings.
🙃
Anon, fair warning this is going to turn into a
Mama Gogo & Jojo Appreciation Post
I've written it plenty of times, but as a person who is always late, it doesn't matter that you're late as long as you show up. And obviously, you show up for the good stuff!
(I'm unsure about the comment about Mix's forehead. I don't understand it. It is very much my reading comprehension, not you, so I'm gonna moonwalk around it. Sorry.)
EarthMix did give us body swapping in Cupid's Last Wish and Magic of Zero: Zero Supporter, which I think is funny that their Cupid's Last Wish characters basically got a sponsored Our Skyy episode before A Tale of Thousand Stars did.
And I believed them as heartbroken best friends, Batman & Robin, in the New Jiew video.
So if their A Tale of Thousand Stars installment has time travel where the chief isn't playing someone already in his 30s, I would be delighted, but I know we can't get that on top of them looking adorable. We can only be so lucky!
But, like you stated, GMMTV trying to convince me that Earth is 40 when he JUST turned 29?! The audacity!
Especially when these children are older than him!
Off (32), Gun (turning 30 this year), Tul (30), and Max (turning 29 in a month).
That's the magic of film, but @dribs-and-drabbles had an entire post about how we want stories about older queers with older people acting in them! And you know what's shocking?!
THIS IS 40!!!!!!
Nat aka Chopper's dad from Never Let Me Go is 40. If he was good enough to play Chopper's daddy, then he is good enough to play a daddy, you feel me?!
First, I need everyone to watch Mama Gogo where that scene came from because it served nothing but looks every single episode, and it was written AND directed by the Jojo, who also put Nat in Never Let Me Go which he also directed.
If you like Earth, Jojo gave us treats. If you like Mike and Drake, Jojo had you. If you like 40-year-old daddies, Jojo fed you! GO LOOK AT THE POSTER!
And for the ladies who like ladies, THIS IS 42!
Once again, we have Jojo to thank for Sine looking fine in 3 Will Be Free.
So what I'm trying to say is as much as I love director Aof, who is beautiful and amazing, he stays aging up these boys, while Jojo appreciates the variety of actors' ages. Aof had First looking like a divorced dad of two with a mortgage and alimony due, when we all know that 24-year old is a precious baby boy who needs to stay hydrated because he cries so much.
Jojo would never do that! He is giving First a baseball bat and the rest of these 20-year old boys their slut era in Only Friends!
So if you want to see Earth be a 20-year old himbo, Jojo is the answer.
Jojo is always the answer.

This got brought up during a conversation with a friend last night, and I realise it’s important to say here.
The way we treat improvement in online art culture, art culture in general but especially online, by only measuring technical prowess is deeply harmful. This issue is not only harmful to beginner artists, whom this most affects, but also wreaks havoc on the minds of even those well entrenched.
We do not emphasise enough how important it is to be comfortable with the physicality of art; how much of art is coordination, and positioning, and finding a comfortable environment: both in a spacial sense and psychological sense. Time and time again, we push for this self-flagellating, motivation-via-punishment strategy, both from ourselves and from our peers, in a hope that this strife shall motivate us, and time and time again it wreaks insecurity, pain, and even total abandonment of the craft altogether.
Look at the state of the online art community. Take a look at any big Youtubers or prolific Instagram posters, and see how many of them continuously breed an environment of self-disparagement and dissatisfaction. How they, intentionally or not, pass these values onto their audiences. I’ll never forget when in one of her art tip videos, Lavendertowne said it was better to improve and be dissatisfied, rather than stay at a certain level and be comfortable.
Just what do you think art is for?
I was fortunate to have come along in my own journey to see this advice for what it was: harmful. Dissatisfaction as motivation. And some people manage to propel themselves off of that; clearly, Haley had. But what this advice either fails to consider, or does so as a form of weeding, is that this shit will utterly decimate the will of anyone not masochistic enough.
That this can and will cause the stagnation they are oh-so fearful of.
It’s sickening.
I hate how much capitalism has fucking twisted online art culture. That it’s turned the beginners on themselves and set them as rabid dogs on each other, and uplifted an Elect Few as flagellant martyrs, bearing the light for all who follow.
The simultaneous lie that art can only be achieved by those born with an innate talent like myself, and that also, if you work hard enough, beat yourself up hard enough, you’ll finally earn your worth. This emphasis on scarcity, whether inborn or dragged up by the bootstraps, either way serves the same end: to deny the fact that art is not special.
That art, just like cooking, is fundamentally human; we all do it, whether it’s prepping instant noodles, or drawing a stickman.
Let’s unpack that, for a moment: the stickman.
Do you know just how much is stored there?
A basic understanding of form, of emphasis on key features(prioritising the head, leaving a potential for emotion), the way it taps into human identity, the fact it’s flexible and can easily be changed-- Hell, alot of humanoid guidelines can be boiled down to stickmen with varying levels of buildup.
It’s so fundamental.
And yet we can go even deeper than that.
Think about how universal the experience is of just drawing shapes. How many of us picked up a crayon, or a twig, or a ballpoint pen, and ran absent patterns over the plane of our medium-- How then they’d allow us to go further, and relay the things we saw around us; whether solely for artistic pleasure, or as a form of preservation; and how neither are entirely divorced.
How my little cousin, scribbling with my coloured pens, is doing the same thing I do in my notebook and on my computer, the same thing Leonardo did with his pencil and his paintbrush, what artisans in the Americas and all over did when decorating their pottery, when they inscribed it, as we all do, with that human soul, and what humans have been doing far, far beyond recorded history, possibly before we were even human.
How essential something like this can be in building hand-eye coordination, another thing that is often neglected in this discussion! That not only are you struggling with technique, but also breaking-in those neural pathways; getting your arm used to these simultaneously repetitive and yet fluid motions. I? I don’t do proper lineart-- My hand is too loose. I’ve tried, and I’ve done it, but the experience was miserable, and there’s no need to put myself through it just because that’s “procedural”.
Your art, at the end of the day, is for you. You may show it to others, and do what you will, but at the end of the day, when the sun goes down, and it’s just you, and your pen, or your stylus, or your paintbrush, or whatever, it’s for you. Whether you started out with “pure” artistic intention or not, here is that.
And it may take awhile to break that in. We’ve made art, even private, into such a performance. Sketchbooks are not meant to be these neat, orderly things-- They can be, and that’s beautiful! --But in a sense, they’re more akin to something as a diary. A little place to pour the soul; to wander where you may, unfettered and unbound.
There are no rules here. There are guidelines. Nothing more.
Take what you will, and go forth.
If you’re struggling to make progress, and you’ve assessed that you do infact want that progress, then consider it’s not technique you need to worry about, but enjoyment; comfort, a degree of assuredness.
You won’t backslide into incoherency if you take your pedal off the break. Let yourself adjust to the road ahead, and drive where you may. And it will be awkward! And it will feel uncomfortable! And you will have those horrid moments where you’re ripped out of your own view and see yourself through the lens of some nebulous judging entity on the outside!
But allow yourself to ignore it.
Because now, you can take your art on your own terms; not on art Youtuber’s terms, not on your disapproving social circle’s terms, or whatever overly-hopeful expectations have been set on you because that’s what we as a capitalistic society do to people displaying any sort of prowess or potential of; Yours.
You deserve to be comfortable with your own work. You deserve to look at something, and feel however you may, and feel as though it isn’t a big deal. You are allowed to find pleasure in just being. That is what art is for: to answer the longings of a yearning soul.
Go forth, love of mine,
And be.

putting my hands on your shoulders looking directly into your eyes why are you so insistent that Dazai is faking every emotion every second of every day except when he's acting mean or evil why do you think his dark side is more true than his happier or sillier sides
do you not also have multiple facets you show different people? are we not all beautiful multifaceted individuals? are your actions and reactions not influenced by your emotions and state of mind?
can't he laugh at his own jokes? can't he fondly think of the Agency? can't he be dramatic because he wants to? can't he be surprised by something suddenly happening, even if he knew it would happen? do you not jump when the jack in the box gets out even if you were the one working the mechanism?
why would the mean persona be more real? why would any and all joy be faked? why are you only allowing him misery?

was thinking about takeshi and how he's my favorite brand of unconditional devotion btw. the utter and absolute and all-consuming kind that runs so deep to the very core and is so intrinsic and fundamental to it, it can only express itself in the most casual and natural and certain way. without second thoughts, without any room for doubts or for any moral dilemma to be had over it, because of course he ought to always be breathing and living for his chosen person first and foremost. of course he ought to hang on their every word and make them true no matter what, no matter what he has to do to make it happen, no matter what he has to do to other people to make it happen, and no matter what it might turn him into in the process. because it's obviously the way the world should be for his chosen person. at their feet, ready to bend over backwards and break and build itself again to better answer to all their needs even if they don't ask it for it. it's the only right way it should be for them, and of course takeshi's going to do his utmost at all times to make it a reality as much as possible.
and his devotion comes out as naturally as breathing, comes out lighthearted and nonchalant like he might as well be talking about the weather, but it's not unaware of itself. it's not that takeshi doesn't know it's unhealthy and wrong and that he's willing to go entirely too far in its name for anyone's good. it's not that he wouldn't hear you out if you were to sit him down and explain to him just why he needs to tone it down a little (a lot). logically, he'd agree with you and know you're right. and then he'd tell you he's still not going to do anything whatsoever about it. that he's not bothered by it and doesn't feel the need to change anything to his attitude. makes it a point to never let anyone or anything sway him even an inch in the stand he took when it comes to that, no matter how many thousand of times you might go over the subject with him.
because the morality of his devotion isn't the point at all. is entirely irrelevant to it and doesn't affect the way he expresses it all. it's not the metric with which he draws a line in the sand to hold it accountable to. because the thing is, takeshi's entire world revolves around tsuna--tsuna is his entire world altogether, and it's just a matter of fact, that simple. to him it's a truth as unchanging as the sky being blue, and so being the way he is according to that truth is the only way he can imagine being that'd feel right to him. and so the actual and only metric that matters here is "would tsuna be happier if i were to do this?" and/or "is this something tsuna needs me to do?"
and like. i don't think takeshi ever stops being a kind person capable of compassion and understanding and mercy and forgiveness even ten years later once they became mafia through and through. and i don't think either he grows up to be feared and called a monster per se despite the things they inevitably had to do during those ten years (and the things they'll inevitably keep having to do as long as they keep being mafia), at least not in the way, for example, they'll never stop fearing and calling mukuro one. but i do think that among the tenth gen, he ends up being the one with the most ruthless, merciless and horrific blood on his hands of that particular and distinct loving kind. you know the one i mean, right? he comes to be the one most expected and the one first expected to be willing and to take it upon himself to go through with it when the need arises. and to think little of it after, if anything at all. all in the name of making tsuna's reign as easy on him as possible.
and it's to the point where it's the kind of blood that makes even mukuro pause at times. or, when takeshi is the one coming up with solutions himself during meetings, makes even reborn blink. not because it's unjustified or wouldn't be safe or efficient or anything of the sort, but because it is unwarrantedly thorough in its retaliation. and sometimes, at times like this, he's the one tsuna needs to step in for the most, because he's the only one who can reason with him that "yes, this would work in getting rid of our problem" but "no, please, don't do that takeshi". because if tsuna is the only thing that infers on just how much and in what ways he'll let himself be devoted to him, then of course, he's also the only one takeshi's willing to reign himself in for without second thoughts. because he'd hate to ever do something tsuna would disapprove of or wouldn't want him to do. or do something that'd make tsuna see him differently or love him back less even in the slightest.
and it's also like. his devotion isn't an undisciplined one. it's not one he doesn't have control over, the very opposite. it's a very purposeful and conscious choice he chooses to keep making over and over again every step of the way, and he taught himself to have control over it, to know when it's needed and/or wanted, and how much and in which ways it is when it happens, and to keep it down otherwise. and, yes, to also reign it back in at tsuna's request at times when it still slips past his control. because it's all about making tsuna's happiness easier and secure and long-lasting, and never about burdening him with just how committed he is to do that.
so it comes down to this: takeshi willing to go above and beyond and more for tsuna unless tsuna explicitly asks him not to. and to tsuna needing to ask him not to every now and then. and to other people pointing out to him how too many times tsuna's already needed to stop him, and that maybe there's a hint for him to take there. and to takeshi seeing the hint, looking it straight in the eye and recognizing it for what it is and just. deciding it doesn't apply to him because it's all perfectly normal behavior to him. because it's the only kind of behavior that makes sense to him and feels right.
and so—to circle back to my first point—he can only express his devotion as naturally as breathing, so casually, almost like it's something inconsequential and not worth talking about despite how unmistakably it couldn't be further away from being the truth. it's the only way he could have always known how to express it, because, after all, who has ever taken time to ponder about the details and the hows of the way they breathe?
and i, for one, absolutely eat that shit up every time, thanks for coming to my ted talk <3

i am not necessarily immune to this myself but sometimes i see folks arguing about the Variety of Representation and i'm like. WHAT representation. yes it is 100% objectively true that alloaros get the short end of the stick when it comes to both fictional representation and what limited public perception of aspec identities there are. this is important. but outside of that. why are we arguing over who gets scraps?
to in any way claim that aroace people have this great wealth of representation COMPARED TO ALLOACES, however little ace representation there is in mainstream media at all, is preposterous to me! as if aroace characters are popping up all over. as if aroace characters that do exist don't have their aromanticism erased! as if there isn't a substantial population of alloaces whose ace advocacy hinges on assuring the public that they're still capable of love like a Normal Person. as if aroace people haven't been shouting about being alienated from the ace community for years.
we can talk about what we want to see in our representation and i encourage that. but sometimes i see posts on this site and i'm like respectfully what the fuck are you guys talking about. show me the aro characters

When I grow up, I want to be Charn
He called himself "just a cute little lawyer" when his future boyfriend called him a bitch.
He laughed when his office went up in flames.
He has the best ex-boyfriend.
He has the best best friend.
He saw the person who betrayed him on the street and asked why that person wasn't dead.
He responded to a man stating he looked familiar by saying it was probably because he saw him in ONE of his sex tapes.
He told his boyfriend if he was going to be jealous of his crazy ex, then he would have to be jealous of the whole world since he has fucked most of them.
Truly a god among men.

what would alicia do if javier turned up at the tournament in a dress and a wig actually?
like. she would recognize him for sure so. does she confront him?? does she out him in front of everyone??? does she take him aside to ask him what the fuck he's doing?? i mean the answer is pretty clear, she made the rules herself, lloyd's the prize and if javier is there to participate he's also there to win but like. what the fuck nonetheless.
or does she just. let him in. does she even try at that point. because if javier's participating it's no longer a matter of whether he's gonna win, its about how badly she's gonna lose.
what do you even do if you organize a competition you're sure to win to marry a guy and then at the last moment his best friend, the only person in the world who can defeat you, turns up and signs in to participate. what's the royal protocol there.
